Came with the family, it was a nice experience definitely coming back the food and service was really good and the one thing that I always check in an establishment is the restrooms they were really clean that s a reflection of the establishment to care of there clientele.

The food is authentic soul food. They serve Kool-aid and it is so worth the price for the amount of food you.

Staff was really nice. Cordial and courteous and their service was excellant. Food was good, we enjoyed our visit there. Free parking and other shops in area.

I rarely give a 5 star, but this place OMGOSH. First of all it was one hour before they closed. We were greeted warmly. Our server, Jaynae, was amazing. She took our order quickly and had our drinks out so fast. I wanted everything off the menu. Our order came out in about 20 mins, and it all looked a d smelled so good. It tasted even better. I had the meat Loaf, greens, fried okra, cabbage, cornbread dressing, my daughter had the fried catfish plate with black eye peas, broccoli ruce casserole, and french fries. Dad had the sausage sandwich and french fries. We had strawberry cake, pecan pie, and sweet potatoes for dessert. It was all so good. The place was so clean. We even ordered a to go meal. I was so amazed prices for four people it was 70.00. We will definitely be going back

Let me just start off by saying this food had my picky eater DANCING to the music in they dining room We heard good things about Dorris js and baby everything was tru. We were definitely impressed. lol, this place is everything you need when you craving that authentic soul food. The red velvet after the meal was BOMB. So this my honest opinion. Im from the south and had this place recommended to me. Im not sure how long this place has been in business but the first red flag was when I didnt see the food inspection grade visible anywhere. Thats usually the first thing I look at when entering a restaurant, when I didnt see it, I was going to walk out but I like to support a black business. The price is good for the amount of food given. I got the oxtail, Mac n cheese, black eyed peas, and fried cabbage. The oxtails were ok, mac n cheese was decent but salty, the black eyed peas and cabbage were very bland and lacked seasoning. The restaurant didnt seem to be upkept well either so I hope that changes. Maybe I just came on a bad day, so I hope it gets better in the future.

Absolutely great soul food and all your favorite sides yams, Mac and cheese, black eyed peas, fried cabbage,red beans, mixed greens and more. Fried pork chops cooked to order. They also have one of the best frozen margaritas. Great place to meet up with friends Vegetarian options: Veggie burgers and they also have a veggie plate of 4 sides and a cornbread muffin. We came in at lunch with a party of 3, we were the second table in. It took an hour to get our food and it was straight out of sysco food supply. This is differently not home cooked soul food, 71 dols for 3 people and we couldn t even eat it.

Home cooked meal

Me and my husband came in he had fried pork chops, and i had meatloaf. With dressing, mash potatoes, okra and kool-aid. This food was delicious. We will definitely be coming back and telling everyone about this place

Soul Food, Midland, TX Great food. One day I had the Neck Bones, the next day I had the Ox Tails (they come with 3 sides and a corn bread). Those two items alternate and (as of this post) they dont usually have them both on the same day. Limited hours, get there early, some days they run out of the oxtails. The service is okay, but if they get busy, just forget it. The restaurant is kept generally clean, but the booth seats were griddy, like the table was swept off into them. The restroom are kept generally clean but not regularly stocked. Another day, I had their Hamburger. It was great, but I always add Bar-B-Q sauce, ketchup and Mustard, but by itself I think its worth it (1 side comes with it). Finally, I was disappointed that all the todays music playing on the radio station for the customers was utterly consumed with sex and violence. My only relief was from when older songs occasionally played. I would suggest a custom play list a bit less offensive, but I did enjoy the respectable songs.

Oh my goodness!!! I had gotten so many good words about this establishment, and I was so excited to try it out. I decided to treat my brother and sister in law to a soul food meal here, I was so embarrassed because I had bragged about it before actually trying it out for myself. So we went on a Sunday, got there, and went inside. We were told we could just take a seat if we were dining in. First off, it was hot as all get up in there, we took a seat, set for about 15 minutes, thinking someone would come and serve us drinks, that never happened, so we decided to get our food to go. Placed our order and went back to the car and set in the AC. Waited the 30 minutes for our food, go inside to grad our food, and then was notified that some of the food we ordered was no longer available. Get home to sit down and eat. The food was really not what we expected. The fish was battered well, but very bland, the greens were sitting in a bowl of seasoned water, the maccaroni was so dry, I had to use a knife and forth to eat it, I guess the rice is soul separately, we ordered red beans and they gave us chilli beans. The only thing that was enjoyed was the oxtails, with the exception that the rice must be sold separately. Worst experience ever and was a waste of almost $90 dollars for a meal I could have cooked myself and enjoyed. I probably would have saved a lot of money as well. We are from Louisiana, so maybe our taste buds are different. In my personal opinion, this establishment is not all that people brag about.

We walked in and were told to have a seat. Never saw a waitress or waiter. After 20 minutes, we got up to leave. As we were walking out, you could see someones food under the heat lamp, and man, it did look good. Next time we go we will make sure we have time to sit and wait a little longer. Mom had Dr appt.

We love supporting local pop operations. This place is fantastic! Good Southern Soul Food done RIGHT! Nice family owned place. Great Service. And the greens . Yes lord. The greens and meatloaf.. you will not leave hungry. I could not finish mine. I tried. I was too full. I should have taken a picture but I was too hungry and fell into that plate like Locusts in a cornfield. Give them ca try. It s kind of out of the way.. but worth finding.

Wow! First time there, and it was amazing! Everything from the food, to the service. First off, let me bring up a couple of highlights that I REALLY enjoyed. That Mac & Cheese was off the charts awesome due to a slight smokey flavor, which is because of the smoked gouda cheese they put in it. Simply breathtaking! The okra.......the best okra around, simply because it was not over battered, and you could actually taste the QUALITY of the okra itself. Will definitely be bragging to my people about this place, and look forward to many returns

Ok, this restaurant is RIDICULOUSLY GOOD. Like slap yo mamma good. It doesn t taste like restaurant food, it tastes like actual home cooking. Tried it for the first time today and already can t wait to come back. Planning on taking 2 of my friends here. Damn this place is good. 10/10 recommend.

Wanted to eat there at least 6 times before leaving a review. Just a great place to go for a really good home-cooked meal. The staff are so friendly which is rare these days. They truly want you to enjoy your experience. The portions are generous and prices are reasonable. All entrees come with 3 sides. You do not leave hungry! The burgers are wonderful, the beef tips and rice, smothered pork chops, meatloaf, fried okra, cornbread dressing, fried Catfish (best I ever had) you name it...all taste so good like youve been invited to someones home who really knows how to cook!

My fiancé, daughter and I happened to stop by and we are so happy we did..My fiancé got fried pork chops with collard green and mashed potatoes and was amazed at how great it tasted!! I never been so disappointed when I went in the doors the lady asks us to be seated not once did anybody asks us if we want any water and when they brought the flat wear out not covered and it was with no napkins out. what kind of restaurant serve food withouttaking drink order and giving out uncovered silverware first. Honest review. I must say that in my opinion the oxtail and neckbones are the best thing Ive eaten there. The staff is real friendly and the dining area is really big and roomy. I ordered the fish dinner one evening and it was overcooked and looked like it was cooked in old grease. I went back and got the fried porkchops and they were old looking and real thin like breakfast chops. They were not cook to order. And the sides are not home made. In my opinion the cooks need to do better or the manager needs to check the food before it comes out.

Good food but poor service. Left us sitting for over an hour. Then came out to say they ran out of the meatloaf. They served tables that ordered after we did.

I went there and order their meatloaf on a Thursday at 12:30 . One of two days a week that it s offered. At 1:45 a manager came to me to inform me there sold out and if I would like to change my order. I had an appointment at 2:30. So I had to leave instead waiting. I was very disappointed. I love the food there I even travel 20 miles to eat there. I fit. Know if I ll travel that far again for a maybe they hav what I want

I got the oxtails and they were delicious. Mixed greens, cabbage, and dressing were all delicious. The only problem was that the food was warm.

Home cooking at its best reminded me of my Gramdmothers cooking from Alabama baby....thanks for the great food and fond memories brought to the table. Worth it and you got a try it. Got the fried cabbage collard greens and green beans with the meatloaf. Just had it all again for leftovers as enough for 2 meals

The food is wonderful. Ive eaten there several times. The service is also wonderful. Expect to wait just a little longer. This isnt a fast food restaurant. My only complaint is that its always to hot inside. They need to knock the thermostat down a few degrees. Its consistently to hot each time I eat there. With that said, it doesnt keep me away!

We had never been here before. We came in on a Sunday after church. We walked in at 2:24pm no one came to take our drink order until 10 minutes later. We had order 3 chicken baskets and kids meal mini corn dogs and a Angus burger. We didnt receive our order until 3:06pm. The burger was a cold. The burger wasnt Angus the food wasnt homemade at all. The fries was the only thing hot on the plates. The gravy was clumpy. I could taste the flour. The toast wasnt toasted, just buttered. The bathroom was so disgusting, my husband walked my daughter to the super fold and wash. No one ever came back to check on us. We wont ever come back. Save your money and time. This place is not worth it. .

Meat loaf was burnt, broccoli and rice was yuky. Liked green beans and water. Corn bread was semi good cause some was burnt. Chicken would have been good but it was burnt also

Great food, but it takes a long yike for food to come, and when they run out an item, it takes a long time for the replacement item to come out. The servicer should offer you something to replace the item if going take 20 minutes, not just have you to wait.

Soul food is fair, beef tips and rice seemed like it had been reheated many times, and broccoli rice was not warm at all, macaroni and cheese was extremely over seasoned. Sides were better than entree. Waited 20 minutes for our drinks, which were just water and glasses were not clean. Waited 35 minutes for food and we were the only table there. Low key location/atmosphere delivers! You can tell by the handwriting on the menu board that someone back there is working with secret recipes and my partner and I about died over the greens, fried okra, and hush puppies. Chicken and fried catfish also delish, homemade soul food, so good.

1st time I found this place i got oxtails. They were amazing!!! Pickup order. This time I ordered through grubhub. Ordered the oxtails again. Entree only with corn rice and candied yams. And a peach cobbler. First I get a text sayin the delivery would be delayed. Ok fine. Then the grubhub guy calls and puts me on the phone with an employee. Sayin they only do oxtails on Friday and Sunday. OK fine should advertise that but fine.hiw can we remedy this. He says they have fried chicken. I say ok lets go with that. But the fried chicken is cheaper then the oxtails. He asks do I want the meal or the basket. I say the meal. But I say the oxtails was more expensive so if he could throw a couple extra pieces in the order he Says no problem. And he says there is no deserts. Now grub hub already charged me $27 for the food. Thats not including their fee and tip. Total was $37 and change. So for $27 I got 2 wings and a leg. Corn and yams. Was no rice was no desert was no extra chicken. So Im upset. I dont like how the chicken looked. Fried chicken supposed to be golden in color this was brownish. Like the oil was dirty. And when I bit into it. Had Zero flavor. Not to forget it was extremely greasy. I wont be back there again. I dont care how good the oxtails were.

The sided we re just as good as the main course, the had Mac N cheese was creamy, okra was fresh and crispy, and the greens were the best I ve ever tried . Hands down best food I ve had in town. Also the cornbread was NOT DRY AT ALL

Went in at 3:20 on Sunday to eat. They close at 4. You could tell that they were ready to go and didnt want to serve anything. The young lady was mopping and told me that I couldnt dine in, I would have to get my order to go. Everything that I tried to order was told they couldnt make it. I was so disappointed, so I just left. I really wanted to try this place out.

The fried catfish transported me to a new dimension. Flavorful, beautiful mix of spices, truly perfection to my taste buds. The fish itself was sublime and the kicker? It wasn t greasy! I was simply in awe the entire time. The staff were also really friendly and helpful with me as I asked for recommendations. Such a warm and comforting vibe from the staff in general. I hope.. HOPE!.. that one day I can experience this gem once again, but if I can t, I will make it my life s mission to tell everyone in my life to travel to Midland, with the sole purpose of eating here. I stopped by Doris J s Kitchen because I wanted check out a local eatery and I am SO HAPPY I did!! I got the chicken tender basket with Mac and cheese. Not everyone can make good Mac and cheese, but I will say they have got it figured out Shout out to the 2 young ladies that were working this evening, thank you for the great customer service and conversation! Extremely disappointed! Ive ordered twice & loved it but it had been awhile. Decided to take my family & inlaws to have a birthday dinner. Server was sweet but service was slow. When asked what was in the chef salad, server said it was basically cole slaw. They were out of chef salad, chicken spaghetti, and a few sides. Onion rings were very overcooked. Burgers were very basic, a fast food place has better burgers. The fried chicken came out after everyone had already finished their food and it was overcooked. I was constantly telling people to try this place based on my initial experience but cant anymore. Updated to add response to owner: no, I did not leave positive reviews from my previous 2 times. Interesting how thats what the focus was. What I did instead was tell as many people as I could to try out your restaurant. Which is why I took my inlaws there. To show them how Amazing the food was.

The negative reviews that complain about them being out of things just proves that it is so good, show up before its all GONE. Lets start with drinks, get both the KoolAid and the Sweet Tea. You will regret it if you dont. The food, AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING. Actual flavors, and idk why they have salt and pepper shakers on the table because you wont need it! We ordered a Fried Chicken Dinner, Fried Pork Chop Basket, and Fried Catfish Basket. All cooked beautifully and tender/moist. A definite cheat meal, thats gonna make you want multiple cheat days if you are on a diet The sides, MY personal favorite. Everything from the Greens, to the Mac N Cheese hit every flavor factor. And last but not least, the dessert! 7UP cake is my favorite, and I can only IMAGINE what the others taste like. Will definitely recommend, and be back soon! Fried chicken was flavorful and juicy! Onion rings were perfectly fried, baked chicken was amazing, and the sides tied everything together! A true gem in the middle of Midland.

First time going there and let me say I was blown away by the food, the staff that was working were very nice and friendly, the environment was welcoming, everything was fresh and hot, I got the fried catfish and it was probably the best I ve tasted so far living in midland, the sides I recommend are the trio of greens, fried cabbage and the candied yams, I m definitely going again sometime next week to try out more of the items they have. Before and after pics to show how good everything I got was. I definitely recommend coming here if you want to eat great food.

Went to try this place for the first time and must say I was very disappointed. I m all in and LOVE to patronize black-owned businesses but there was a severe lack of consideration and customer service on my visit. My family dined in. At the counter we were told to sit anywhere. When someone finally came over we ordered drinks. We got our drinks and sat another 30 minutes, without menus so I looked up the menu online so that we would be ready whenever someone remembered we were waiting. Meanwhile, my two youngest drinking up lemonade and I m thinking I might as well just pay for the drinks and leave because it was apparent that they didn t care that we come to eat and it was going on 45 minutes! Someone finally comes over and we order, which I m not sure how we were overlooked several times while they had someone going to other tables. I was a little irritated by this time but still tried to wait it out. Food finally came, we d been there a little over an hour at this time. The catfish for my daughter and I was in fact delicious. The smothered pork chops for my son was cold and they didn t bring his side of black-eyed peas. They brought out greens instead and said they would get the peas. Never brought them, I guess they just said he better just eat the greens?! Could ve just said they didn t have any or whatever instead of just not bringing them back or saying anything else. Oh let me also say we had to ask for silverware too. It was just all over the place in there. I hope things get better because the food is good and it s a really big deal to have this kind of restaurant in West Texas.

We were very disappointed!!! The beans, sweet potatoes and corn was good. The fish was cooked in too hot of iil, the greens were undercooked, the meatloaf was left over from the day before, because we wanted 5 meatloaf plates, and they only had on. This was when they had just opened for the day, and the unsweet tea was bitter. We will not be back.

This is a great family owned restaurant always amazing food when we go love the family environment and you get a lot of food for the price.

The first time I went I got the fried pork chops with okra, dressing and Mac&cheese. Best homemade food in midland. The second time I went for the steak fingers. Amazing.

Ordered takeout for the first time from Doris Js Kitchen. I had the catfish and it was sooooo good. I like the way they line the styrofoam box with foil. The catfish was perfect. I had fried okra and it was very good, tasted like homemade freshly fried. Very tasty and not expensive either.

So I tried this place because Scotty s was closed and it was awful my cabbage was hard a and tasted uncooked I ordered smothered porkchops the gravy was very watered down and the skin had came off it was really soggy everything else had no taste literally and the portions are small for it to be so expensive my food at cheddars cost less it was disgusting and I ll never go there again I posted on my Snapchat how awful it was and literally like 9 ppl wrote back sayin the same thing it s a no for me

Shapfaisley Franks i really hate that you didnt enjoy your meal. The food is Awesome and i love the food and their great hospitality, that you rarely find in most restaurants. . But just remember just because it wasnt how you wanted it to be, doesnt make it bad food or a bad place for others to eat at. They are my favorite place and im sure if you had discussed your dislikes, they would have made it right. They are just that good to always try to accommodate your Satisfaction. You mention Scottys place and no disrespect to his place, I had a terrible experience with them and havnt went back and unlike Doris Js. I definitely didnt get my money worth. But i want tell other people negative things to discourage them from dining there, i just want go back. And just to let you know everybody dont cook the same . so if you want all food to taste like Scottys, its not gonna be possible. So when Scottys is close just wait until he open up before eating somewhere else. Doris js is a fine establishment to take you and your family to eat. Me and my family loves it. Great job to the owners, The Chef, The assistant cooks and the waitresses. Job well done

Food at Doris J s is delicious and made from scratch. The staff was kind and very helpful. I recommend eating here when in need of home cook meal.

My plate was delicious, stop by and get you a plate. Parking: Restaurant is in a plaza so lots of space for parking. Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendly and they have high chairs.

If zero stars was a option I would have picked, food was nasty and cold everything looked heated up from the day before will never be back here to everyone don t eat here check out Scotty s instead

Food was amazing, red beans and rice were perfect, cornbread was delicious, catfish was perfect, tartar sauce was great, and the Kool-aid was dead perfect! Loved every crumb! Perfect slice of that home grown soul food and southern charm!

Tried this place for the first time today and it was AMAZING! It s so nice to have a restaurant in the area besides Mexican food (which we love, but want something different every now and then). I had the fried catfish and it was delicious! The mashed potatoes were SO GOOD and the candied yams were sweet and were so good. My daughter had the fried chicken and ate every single morsel off the bone! Truly felt like home cookin ! Good portions and you definitely won t leave hungry!!

5 star service Ms. Lady up front that helped me was Grade A in customer service which is lacking in the food industry she took the order with a smile and the cooks in back prepared fresh to order I mean you dont get any better than that food wasnt burnt or sitting under a heat lamp every was top notch this will be my go to spot in midland from no on I get so tired of wasting my money on food thats the people dont have a passion for cooking anymore but Doris js puts out fresh quality food and the cake and pecan pie off the chain and that Kool aid on point too

From the greeting at the counter, to double checking the order once it was ready to brining it home & enjoying our lunch with my family was 10/10! It was well plated portions & absolutely delicious! We ordered a baked chicken salad, fried chicken & chicken & dumplings. The green beans were OUT OF THIS WORLD incredible! Only feedback from my Dad who ordered the chicken & dumplings was that there weren t any dumplings but it was still very good.

Ive heard great things about Doris Js but let me tell you....the food is AMAZING...I chose the Catfish Dinner with Mac and Cheese , Greens and Mash Potatoes! I completely demolished all of it! The food is truly amazing and should be tried by all! Its the home cooked meal vibe that resonates with me the most... I will be back those oxtails are next on my list!! Youre simply missing out if you havent tried Doris Js. Simply the best plates ever, especially in this area of Midland. The food is ALWAYS hot and freshly made. The fact that you get THREE sides on the meal is sensational! At that, the choice of sides are a full menu itself with the choices you get. The Kool Aid is so amazing. Its way better than what your momma, aunt, or babysitter would have ever made! If youre wanting good home cooking food, get Doris Js!
