Visiting from the States and chose here b/c of the reviews. Food was good but unfortunately the service was terrible. Learned one waitress was servicing the entire restaurant as other Staff had called in. One table dining had 12 guests. Mistakes were made with extended wait times of which we were told items were being comped since the wrong dishes served only to find them on the bill. Highly disappointed as there are literally dozens of restaurants, many right on the water. BTW, don t order the vodka martini -bartender actually doesn t know how to make it.

Had dinner for 3 last nite at this quaint & cosy restaurant in the Rocks.Food quality of all 3 mains of Moreton Bay bug..with garlic butter ..grilled blue eyed cod & seafood pasta was very good.The entrees of calamari & pear & rocket salad were also nicely presented along with warm buns and all were tasty.Id agree with some of the other reviewers that service is somewhat too casual / relaxed for this pricepoint of restaurant....but I am giving it a pass because at least it was friendly.Desserts of creme brulee & warm apple crumble also get a big thumbs up ..very nice.If you like a cocktail on the strong side cocktail dont be shy and order the Negroni...no doubt it packs a punch.Would not hesitate to return when in the mood for fish or seafood .

I wish I could give two separate reviews. One for food and one for service. The food was fantastic. Unfortunately the atrocious service all but ruined the evening. From the moment we sat down we were ignored. Any time we needed something we had to speak up, which was very uncomfortable. We didnt want to be rude, but we would have gone our entire meal without a drink had we not spoken up. Meanwhile, tables all around us that arrived after us were getting service with having to say anything. Very disappointing. Would not recommend this establishment if you are not a local.

Lovely food, service and atmosphere. We visited for an early pre-show dinner and the friendly wait staff made sure we got out on time. Everything was delicious.

We loved our dinner at Fish at the Rocks!! From the gorgeous fuchsia mums at the door, this intimate restaurant hit all the notes. The warmth provided by the host and servers added to our overall experience. My husband and I shared the grilled calamari, which was tender tasted great. The Greek salad was the prettiest and freshest I ve ever tasted. For the main entrees, I had a pasta and seafood but my husband had whole barramundi stuffed with prawns and vegetables. That was the hit of the night. If I lived in Sydney, this would be my reliable, go-to place for a relaxing and delicious meal. Sorry I didn t get any pictures.

What a fabulous dinner! The wine selections were wonderful. The lobster and prawn ravioli (very similar to dumplings) were divine the sauce was perfect! We had the crustacean platter for two the seafood was cooked to perfection the chips and salad were a marvelous addition. We are still talking about how great our dinner was. Keep up the good work! Tip: Book a table ahead of time they were full on a Sunday night and had to turn walk ins away!

We went to have an early dinner, is prefer to have a reservation. Great food and service, nice variety of wine and gnocchi with the catch of the day was super tasty with a passion fruit cream brulee at the end.

If you remain perplexed by the waiting times... get over the initial impasse because the quality of the food is worth all the minutes spent waiting for it. Furthermore, the environment is so welcoming that spending the evening in this beautiful restaurant is just a pleasure. Very professional and courteous staff. In short... I can only recommend this restaurant!

We have been a number of times but not since covid. Our return visit did not dissapoint. Food was fabulous, our waitress was outstanding and the ambience as expected very cosy. Highly recommend.

Fantastic Seafood platter for two

Each time I visit Sydney, I dine here. I enjoy its neighborhood feel and, of course, its creative fresh fish preparations. As an American, I appreciate being introduced to Australian fish. This time, I enjoyed, for the first time ever , Mulloway. Fish at the Rocks is just far enough of the tourist crowds to be my personal off-the-beaten-path hidden treasure.

Delicious Sydney rock oysters. For mains we had the whole fish and Moreton bay bugs. Both were high quality. Service was good and friendly.

I travel through Sydney annually and have been coming to the restaurant for at least 15 years now. It was recommended to me by what was then the holiday inn express on George st, Can t resist having my favorite dish not something I can get where I live. Have sent some other folks there as they have traveled to Sydney who said I had described it well. Always look forward to the next time.

A charming location, set in what may have been a (kind of New Orleans-ish) house in the past, with very nice staff, and excellent food. We walked there and back from a Circular Quay hotel, and it was also an enjoyable walk, which seemed safe in both directions.

This is a lovely, quiet restaurant. We enjoyed the ambiance and the fact we were not rushed at all. The food was very good and the service was great. We had a lovely evening and we would come back next time we are in Sydney.

We were nicely greeted by the co-owner (I believe he was). I ordered the fish pie, which was excellent, and my wife the Barramundi stuffed with prawns with a red curry sauce. She remarked that it was the best fish dish that she had ever tasted. For dessert we had the apple and rhubarb crumble, sticky date pudding and dessert of the day. They were all excellent. The service was fantastic with an ambient atmosphere. I thank particularly the gentleman who served us (he worked in Norwich in the last century) whose humour, friendliness and attentiveness added to the very nice evening.

Incredible selection of fish - including some menu items that fuse seafood with traditional Australian cuisine. Enjoyed the blue fin tuna steak and some steamed veggies and my wife enjoyed the mixed seafood platter. The date pudding pie was an excellent desert. The restaurant view was street-facing. Only improvement to the ambiance is if the restaurant had a view of the harbor. Seems like a harbor view would require a huge renovation to the building though.

Service was disjointed, upstairs, almost forgotten. waited 12mins from the first entree plate to the arrival of the remaining entrees for all diners. Everything had gone cold by then. Wine list deceptively poor - seems extensive, until you drill down and only get C-Grade wines. Scallops entree was lovely, but only 3 x scallops (out of shell) for $34 perhaps expected one more. The lobster ravioli was watery and weird - avoid. I cant be sure, but having had 7 bouts of diarrhoea overnight, Ive got a bad feeling. Prices are fair, but not cheap. Comparing the menu description to the delivered dish, theres a massive expectation gap. Staff seemingly trying hard, but perhaps under-trained or under-staffed. wont be back...

This was my second visit to Fish at the Rocks. There are so many great choices on the menu that a return visit was called for, and it didnt disappoint. Mussels, momo dumplings, fish pie and fish stew were all superb. The restaurant has a friendly, welcoming atmosphere, and a request to adjust the lighting over our table was easily managed.

Was amazing. Food was excellent. It s been a while since I had lunch here and it was better than what I remember. Will be back soon

We shared a crustacean platter which was absolutely delicious. All the seafood was fresh and easily removed from the shell. The bugs were the highlight though it was hard to choose from all the rest. Staff were excellent and we have no problem in recommending your restaurant to anyone. Best wishes for continued success Marion and Bill

Outstanding food, beautifully presented. We had the stuffed barramundi with red sauce and it was delicious!

Unfortunately, arriving 10min early meant for me, as a person with visible disability- I was sent outside ( in severe wind gusts), to wait on a public bench. Needless to say, I didnt. Funny thing is they called 10min after our booking time, to graciously allow us in, when we explained we had left, it was very obvious, we were not at all important (although loyal patrons for years). That said, I am very slow with my mobility aid, they did realise my difficulty leaving the restaurant (when sent in the naughty too early corner) AND when we walked off to our uber, which I should actually charge to them. Overall- I dont think this business is appreciative of their repeat patrons, staff rude and non caring. Im sorry to say we wont be back privately, as well as business related.

We had a lovely meal here during our stay in The Rocks. The oysters were a perfect start, with the ocean trout and seafood pie both being wonderful mains. Dessert - passionfruit creme brûlée - was divine. We loved our visit and will return if we are ever back in the area.

We didnt eat because as soon as we arrived outside the restaurant they bounced us around badly because they were full. They may also cook well but due to their rudeness at the entrance I advise against coming here.

A lovely intimate restaurant with top quality seafood. We loved the scallops, the whole fish which was sole and a great special of cobia with potato and pumpkin curry. All superb and the service was excellent during a lunch hour which started quiet and ended busy!!!! Their reputation precedents them.

Excellent food and service! Ordered the barramundi with Thai curry sauce. The fish is fresh, well cooked and tasty. We ordered 1 main and starter to share. They made the effort to portion into 2 portions each for us to share. Very thoughtful and great service. Highly recommend!!

This was my best meal while visiting Australia. I had octopus for my appetizer and the barramundi for my main. The food was great, with such attention to detail. To top it off, the waitress was knowledgeable, professional, and personable. Made my night.

Sublime. If you are a seafood fan this is a must visit when dining in Sydney. Very creative and delicious options, not your average seafood restaurant. The prawn stuffed Barramundi red curry was incredible

Nice ambient, great food, very kind service, what can you expect more from a restaurant? We appreciated in particular the fact that the place is not so big and away from the most crowded areas, we had the feeling that the personnel could take good care of all the guests.

Was recommended to me by some locals for fish n chips. I guess if you are a local you can get it without it being take aways... 40+ for dine in and 16 for take away? Seems a bit excessive. Got take away bc 40+ seems ridiculous. Came with 2 fish, chips, some squid rings. Chips are ok. Nothing to write home about but crispy, frozen fried not fresh. Squid lacked flavor. Really not great. 2 small fish pieces. Not great. Hot. Crispy. But no flavor. Not from the fish or the batter. TINY tartar sauce packet. 2 aud for ketchup. Ridiculous. Maybe the dine in food is better. But a wanna be tourist trap for the location without the even decent food to back it up. Avoid this place. So many better places to eat. Unless you are a local and have a relationship. Then it supposedly taste better.

We had a short stay trip to Millers Point in Sydney and stumbled upon Fish at The Rocks which was next to the Lord Nelson Brewery and Pub. Very accommodating find a table for our party of 4. Food was amazing- great menu selection and wine list. Service was also top class and very reasonably priced for the quality provided. Highly recommend and will be back on next visit to Sydney.

What a cute little place. We visited on a Sunday night and it was busy. Lovely, personal service and atmosphere. Great choice of seafood. We had the sole and Balmain bugs. Just delicious.

It was my last night in Sydney (from US) so opted for a highly rated seafood restaurant. Seafood chowder was the soup special and was phenomenal and full of flavor. Then ordered the seafood pasta with an added lobster tail it was literally so very bland that i tried to fix it with salt and Parmesan but still no luck. The lobster was not an added tail but just a few chunks thrown in the food mix. Which was so bland, tasted like it was a frozen mix from a bag that was defrosted in water donut all lost it flavor. Didn t eat it, informed the server how disappointing it was and still closed me out charging me $52 for a meal I didn t eat. Left hungry and so sad I spent my last night there. If you want good seafood, go elsewhere.

My partner and I have eaten at this fabulous restaurant many times, most recently yesterday for lunch with friends from the USA. We started with the dumplings, spring rolls and scampi (a must), followed by the seafood pie, seafood salad and the garfish, all cooked perfectly, as usual. And as usual the wait staff were very attentive without being intrusive. We have introduced many friend to this wonderful seafood restaurant and they ve never been disappointed. This is a small, intimate restaurant in (as the name states) the Rocks region of Sydney. We loved the ambiance, food and service. It reminded me of a favorite restaurant in San Francisco. Great food, great service. Well definitely go back when we visit Sydney again.

Had lunch at Fish at the Rocks on 2.5.2024 to celebrate my husbands birthday - could not have been happier with out experience. Great location, impeccable service, magnificent food. We were very grateful to receive a Happy Birthday dessert as a gift from the restaurant. Lovely place - we will be back!

We chose this restaurant based on previous reviews & we needed a restaurant that had no blaring music or distraction from TV screens. The food was ok, but I thought it was very 1980s - I ordered crab spring rolls which were soft, not crispy. The seafood pie I ordered - ok but nothing to write home about. Service & ambience was terrific. They had a good wine list. Suggest they revamp their menu & move into 2024. Parking: Best travel by public transport as parking could be costly - also a beer at the Lord Nelson beforehand will assist in getting the night away.....

Very enjoyable dining experience from start to finish. We had a reservation and were seated promptly at a nice table and loved that there was reasonable spacing among the diners and that we could hold a conversation. We were given a wonderful recommendation for a Australian Sauvignon blanc, the shared appetizer of octopus was wonderfully sauced and prepared and our two entrees of seafood salad and stuffed barramundi were very enjoyable.... the special dessert of chocolate tart with raspberry sauce was one of the best we have had. Very enjoyable night out here... highly recommended.

We have dined at Fish at the Rocks for around ten years. The restaurant is just a short walk from Circular Quay. The food has always been excellent from a great menu & there are daily specials as well. On our last visit two of the diners asked if it would be possible to have one of the entrees as a main meal. It wasnt a problem. I would recommend this restaurant.

A classy establishment with excellent seafood - the best we had during our 3 weeks in Australia - and a good wine list.

On a regular basis we have lunch at Fish at the Rocks. Once again the food, service and atmosphere was excellent. On this occasion we had Seafood Chowder, Seafood Salad, Grilled Swordfish Steak with vegetables and desert. The Grilled Swordfish Steak was a Blackboard special and was cooked perfectly! The wine recommendation from the Server was a good choice to go with the meal. Overall a delightful experience.

Not cheap, but faultless on food, service and (especially upstairs!) atmosphere. Dietary restrictions: They take gluten free seriously, and have a good selection for sufferers of celiac disease.

Two of us had the Seafood pie which I think is the best I have ever had & I have had a few! The other meals were the whole snapper & Atlantic salmon , all were delicious With dessert & coffees great lunch Food : 4/5

Best resturant in Sydney!

This is one of our favourite restaurants in Sydney. It has a great menu and good wine list. We had the Crustacean Platter as a special treat for our wedding anniversary. Unfortunately, although most of the platter was excellent the lobster pieces were small, dry and tough. We suggested to the waitress that they were overcooked but I even wonder whether they had been reheated? There was no feedback on this comment at the time. I had noted in the booking that it was our anniversary but there was no recognition of this on the night. All-in-all not quite up to the usual standard.

First class dinner - menu choices were nicely varied and quality and freshness of food spot on - attention to detail for our nut and gluten allergies was excellent. Dietary restrictions: Show great care and attention to our nut and coeliac allergies- even met the chef

The two of us dined at this Sydney restaurant on a recent weeknight. The seafood dishes were well prepared and nicely presented. Service was friendly and professional. The atmosphere were perfect for a quite dinner for two. There are limited tables, so a reservation is a must.

Brilliantly cooked Rock Lobster, service was friendly and efficient. Attentive but not over the top. Nothing was too much trouble. An excellent dining experience.

Been coming here for well over 20 years now and the food and service have never been disappointing. The wine list is comprehensive and the prices are extremely competitive. Parking: Difficult that part of town on a Saturday evening!

Good fish very fresh and well cooked, good wine, nice beautiful blue place. I like the upstairs atmosphere but especially how kind the waiter was and the amazing sticky date dessert! wow!

We were celebrating a special birthday. The staff were attentive and really lovely to deal with. They had taken note that it was a birthday celebration and at the end of the meal presented my husband with a special dessert and candles. The food was delicious especially the entre mixed platter. My husbands seafood spaghetti was an especially good. Wonderful evening I wish we lived in Sydney to go there more often

Amazing seafood, at a great location in Sydney.

Food ranged from very good to disappointing and is expensive for what you get. Staff tried hard, but seemed inexperienced. 1.5 hour sittings is mean but fortunately was not enforced as no booking after ours.

Food was absolutely excellent and service as well. Not quite a romantic atmosphere but good enough for a nice quiet dinner. All in all, a great place to dine

My wife and I are in Sydney for a week. Having discovered this restaurant we will eat here for four of our seven nights and it would have been more had we not made prior alternative arrangements in ignorance. Excellent food and wine at a reasonable price. Dietary restrictions: Good options for non meat eaters.

Very pleasant restaurant serving delicious fresh fish and seafood. The best in Sydney. We come as overseas visitors every year and will return again and again. Excellent, friendly service.

First time visitor. Beautifully appointed restaurant. Food was exceptional. Seafood pie was great. The crab and prawn ravioli was superb. The berry flavourer crème Broulee was just wonderful. Interesting wine list too. Thoroughly enjoyable. Ill be back. Thank you Fish at the Rocks.

Superb fish and seafood restaurant Very welcoming staff Food

If you have a chance to visit Sydney, you will definitely want to try this restaurant. The taste, the staffs hospitality, and the restaurants atmosphere were all great.

Food (seafood spaghetti & steak) was ok but service was below standard for the price. No water was given until we asked, and it seems we were the only table without a water. The old man (with reading glasses) waved us to walk to his cashier (about 10 meters away) while we were waiting at the entrance, thats not a very polite gesture. When we are trying to pay, he simply forgot he gave the bill to us while we had the credit card ready for like 5 minutes, also had to get his attention several times before he realised. The female servers are much better though.

Fantastic find- so good we re going back again before we leave Sydney. The food was uniformly delicious, the service friendly and efficient and it s a charming spot and not horribly noisy. Highly recommended! P

We last visited the restaurant just before the Pandemic. Pleased to report that if you have visitors from overseas, its an excellent place to enjoy and eat good quality fish. The food is still excellent, the service exemplary. The booking system via email works very well. We will definitely go back.

Everything is good. Portions should be a little bigger

We visited this restaurant on a Monday night. Every table was full. Starters were beautifully done, as was the Thai salad mixed fish main. However, the star of the show was the days special. Beautifully cooked, white flaky fish. Just perfect.

Great Moreton Bay Bugs. They were worth the 15 hour flight! We will be back!

An unassuming treasure wonderful, fresh seafood and excellent service. A great spot in the Rocks!

The seafood here is simply delicious. They have a good variety of dishes to choose from. It is on the pricy side but the food is worth it in my opinion.

Ive been there once. Entre was alright. And for the main, we got seafood pie and Baked Baramundi stuffed with prawn with rice and thai curry sauce. Baramundi at least had some taste compared to the pie. The seafood pie tasted more like a soup inside the pastry, nothing like a pie at all. Talking about service, I asked for a drink but didnt get it, had to ask the waitstaff again later for the drink. Also, we were done with the mains and so asked for the menu to order dessert. Once we got the menu, we waited a while for someone to come and take the order. No one came to us for almost 10 minutes. We ended up asking for a bill, and still, we were not asked if we wanted to order any dessert. They will have to work on better service, at least.

This is my second visit since the last time (November 2022). Ask the hotel concierge to make a reservation for dinner (reservation required), This time I had fun with three friends. Raw oysters, Fish and chips (barramundi fried in breadcrumbs instead of regular fritters), Lobster and shrimp ravioli (3), white wine, cream, garlic, basil, pecorino cheese Spaghettini pasta, shrimp, Scallops, mussels, salmon, tomatoes, green onions, garlic, olive oil Salad White wine Great deals Last time I visited, I posted on Google Maps and received an email with a coupon for 50 for wine, so when I presented it, the receipt was - 50 I am grateful that I was able to have a delicious and enjoyable time at the restaurant I visited again. Ill be back!
