Ridiculously Over-Priced: Pre-Covid, my usual order cost $21.00. In August, that went up to $31.00. I got the exact same order this week, and now it costs $38.00. Theyre taking advantage of covid pricing pure and simple. Ill get my take-out someplace else, thanks.

Excellent food and customer service.

Food is good. I ordered $170 worth of food and they charged me a $12 dollar delivery charge. All because I live on top of the hill. I have never been charged via other Chinese restaurants. So I will not be ordering again.

Best Chinese food in Milton, hands down.

My last order was a disaster! The food was excellent as always, but the service was terrible. The dispatcher was in such a hurry when I placed my order that he took down my phone number incorrectly. The driver says he keyed my buzzer number 3 times to get in, yet no calls appeared recorded on my cellphone. I had to run after them to get my food! A restaurant that prides itself on good quality and has received multiple Peoples Choice Awards should provide better service. Bad Customer Service is Bad Business! I will have to look elsewhere if this happens again!

Worst Chinese food ever! Please go to the best Chinese in Milton, thats Royal Garden! Gold city food is so bad and bland. No salt, no spice. #1.The chowmein was just saltless boiled noodles and boiled vegetables full of hugely cut bell peppers. #2. The fried rice was tasteless#3. Beef was edible but loaded with hugely chopped bland bell peppers.#4. Orange chicken ( or whatever it was) was rubbery and bland. One of the worst Chinese food we ever tasted and didnt serve plain steamed rice with entrees as promised and paid. Never ever try again or recommend anyone!

Our go-to place for Chinese food. Good portion sizes. They are popular, so expect wait times on weekends. Food is still steaming hot by the time I got home from picking it up.

I have to admit that this is the best Chinese take out that Ive had in Canada. I compare a lot of restaurants from up in Muskoka to gta and down to London. And I have to say they have set the bar very high! I look forward to dining here again.

I know its covid, but after I paid for the food I was told to wait in the car. As soon as the food was ready, a grumpy server came out and placed the food on the dirty bonnet of my car and simply walked back in. That is not how you a) respect food or b) respect the customer. As much as I liked the food, the treatment was not well received. If you hate/dont like certain customers then dont serve food In a cosmopolitan community.

Especially after reading all of the good reviews, we were very disappointed. Staff were not wearing masks and very rude welcoming. Overpriced for the quality of their food. It was very tasteless and the chicken was just chewy and not good. One of the dishes we ordered was general tso and it was mostly made of just batter and chicken fat. I haven t been to any good chinese restaurants but this was probably the worst. I wouldn t recommend this place, maybe we didn t order something good but was still very disappointed with the food, don t understand the hype.

Family owned and run restaurant with great food. Once, our whole family dropped in and the owners were just sitting down to eat before they closed. They got up and fed us all before they got their meal. They always remember how my nephew likes his favourite dish prepared and are happy to accommodate our preferences. They remember us by name and are the nicest people.

Yesterday I ate my modest dinner meal at Gold City Chinese Restaurant. It was possibly the most fulfilling experience Ive had my entire life. I had the sauteed beef and it caused an explosion of flavour in my taste buds as I chewed the tender, savoury meat and drool openly spilled out of my mouth. I then ate a spoon of the perfectly cooked rice to complement the salty beef and a harmonious balance of flavour was created. I quickly wolfed down the rest of my meal joyfully and then called for my bill. The host that came up to me was the kindest, most handsome, muscular, and smart young man that Ive ever seen in my life. He smelled lightly of a floral perfume and I was invigorated as he bent down to give me the payment machine. Im sure that his memory will linger with me for many moons to come. 10/10 would recommend.

Thoroughly disappointed with customer service, food quality and taste. This, especially considering how high the restaurant ranks in reviews. Most troubling was the staff and owner having no regard for my personal health exemptions. Will not be returning to this business.

Ive been going to Gold City ever since I can remember, maybe 20 years? It has always been incredible. Even though Ive moved farther away, I still make the drive as nothing really compares!

The price of this shop is much more expensive than that in the same district, the taste is also average, it is not worth the high score, and the service attitude is not good...

Just picked up fried rice, general tso chicken, fried noodle and beef with black bean sauce. WORST FOOD EVER. Ive paid 55 dollar for these foods, and portion are tiny and the noodle is extremely cooked (I cant pick them up). I want my money back!!!!!

The chicken chow mein is not a chow mein... Its a beansprout side dish... there was no noodles at all.... 0/10

Great lunch specials

General Tao chicken was terrible. Was like chewing cartilage. They wouldnt refund me because they said thats how they make it and its all white meat but it wasnt even edible. Their chicken fried rice was bland. Their spring rolls werent bad at least. Will not eat here again.

Great food, great prices

3.5 seems more fair. We ordered jardoo wings, bbq pork fried rice, chicken chop suey, beef tenderloin, and sweet and sour pork. The rice was great the tenderloin was the best Ive ever had although it needs more heat, the chop suey was flavourless and the pork was kind of bland, the wings were great. I didnt particularly enjoy the attitude of the lady taking the order either though, a little rude. Id say its the best in milton but not the best youll ever eat.

Will always have the best food

Very good and authentic Cantonese. The beef mixed veggies and cantonese noodle mix were the best. The quantity is good. The house special fries rice was not so delicious and the wontons were not super silky, but its a must try.

Good Chinese food is hard to find and Gold City is really good. Their chicken balls actually have big pieces of chicken in them! That never happens.

I ordered specifically for a dish called Cantonese vegetable chow mein and it started it is all vegetables. We got home and saw shrimp. I was shocked because I knew exactly what we ordered. One of our family member is slightly allergic to shellfish and the rest of the family doesnt eat seafood at all. When we let the mamager know, they stated they will make a new dish. However, we were just out doing all errands and then in the end getting food for home. Of course we didnt feel like going back out. Then they offered Store credit. Well we havent tried the food yet so we didnt know if wed like the food. We wanted a refund. She became aggressive stating I want your name and I dont want you to ever come back here. After that comment... I wouldnt even go back. The manager was extremely rude and very unprofessional. This was a very disappointing experience for a new customer when we even explained that to them. To be fair I will say the food was good but customer service was bad. If they took a moment to listen to our concerns they would have been able to act professionally

Food was delicious and made fresh to order. Jardoo chicken wings were amazing. Wonton soup was good. Chicken balls were tasty and had a decent amount of chicken in them. Pork fried rice was great. The man at the front was very friendly and made conversation while I waited for my order. Would definitely come back again and reccomend to others. Living in Milton my whole life we have only ever eaten from Gold City Restaurant. It s the only Chinese we have ever had in Milton. The only thing I have noticed it the food is starting to taste different. I don t know what it is, but it s definitely not what is used to be. But I love this whole family and seeing the kids grow up and take over to help their parents is amazing.

Its okay. I was surprised to ser there was no pepper steak on the menu (unless I missed it) thats usually a staple at Chinese restaurants. Also the dishes lacked meat.. pork fried rice had no pork for all I knew it was chicken fried rice. Beef with vegetables was more like vegetables with a little bit of beef and the chicken chop suey was the same. The size of the chicken pieces was laughable! Also no option for vegetarian spring roll however the pork spring roll I got literally had no pork anyways lol... so far this is the best weve had in Milton but I think its worth the drive to Mississauga for excellent Chinese food!

Very horrible experience. I ordered Shrimp in lobster sauce and never imagined that there would be any meat in it since it was under sea food section . (Menu doesn t specify ingredients in this dish). When I started eating ,realized that the dish has meat in it. Called up the restaurant and asked about this. The person at the phone showed a lot of attitude and arrogance and said that it has pork in it and it is my fault that I didn t imagine that they would add pork in it. I don t even eat pork and what threw me off in addition to having eaten a mouthful of the dish is their attitude at my shock n predicament. Would never eat again from here.

Great food have always liked it but however had not always recieved great customer service. I would call quite a bit in advance for delivery before closing and would always get a snarky attitude then they would instantly hang up like 2 seconds after. I also once ordered for pickup as we walked in (we were in the area waiting for plans to start later that evening and planned on taking it with us) but plans were post poned till even later that night and didnt want the food getting cold so we decided to eat it there and the owner actually got mad us and made us feel EXTREMELY unwelcomed the entire time and we were constantly getting glares and all we were were polite and very quiet (because we were afraid to speak louder than a legit whisper) and there were maybe two other people eating in there aswell so was not at a busy time in the slightest...

Ignore the ambience. Hands down best Chinese in Milton. Authentic. Quantity is good and so are the prices. We had egg, scallop spring rolls, chicken with vegetables and chowmein with veggies. Everything made fresh. Try it.

Im sorry, weve given this place 3 chances - I dont see the attraction. The staff are rude and inconsistent, the food is sub-par. Im not quite sure what they are substituting the chicken with, but its disgusting. Not accepting debit is archaic. Front of the house staff Miltons version of the Soup Nazi.

My family has been going here for years and weve definitely noticed that although the prices continue to increase the quality of the food has not. Many dishes are loaded with huge pieces of onion that no one is likely to eat, chicken balls are about 1/4 chicken and 3/4 breading. Spare ribs are mainly inedible fat, cartilage and bones. Food in general is very hit or miss these days.

Funny how the prices remain the same and the delivery dishes got smaller. Also rushed ordering on the phone. Specifically asked for fried skinny noodles and they send Cantonese chow mein. Disappointing

First time I ever tried this place was tonight. We spent just over $50.00 on food. The portion was average and the food was not great. Very bland. The reason I am giving 1 star is because they charged my credit card twice and told me it didn t go through and then asked for cash because my card wasent working apparently. So we paid cash. When I got home I called RBC and my visa had been charged twice AND I paid cash.. not happy.

I decided to take out food for a family of 5. While we were eating we spotted cooked fly in our food. The next day when I repoxrted this to restaurant and ask for a refund, the management was upset that why I didnt report the previous night. Also the rude Jennifer asked me not to come again. Not sure what made her to think that i will ever come back but I do not plan to eat from a restaurant that had previously cooked fly in my food. Read other reviews where people have reported bugs.

Eating in is an OK experience. The food and service are alright, but there isnt much in terms of atmosphere. I usually order takeout and pick it up myself. Portions are always decent, and the quality is good too. Its really the only good place in Milton for decent Chinese food. I am still searching for REALLY GOOD Chinese though. Another downside is they only accept Credit or Cash, and they dont have a website. Its 2018! People want to be able to go to your site and SEE your brand. People want to pay with debit as a matter of convenience. The first time I tried to pay by debit, they told me the convenience store in the plaza had a ATM which at the time charged me $3.50 to withdraw money.

I went in for the lunch special today and the place was packed. Its a white retiree patronage - come here for lunch if you want to feel youthful again. Its a really good value (hence the retiree set!) - put it this way, Im stuffed. At $7 yeah you get a lot of rice but the rice is tasty - there are bits of chicken and veggies in it too. You alsovalue get your choice of soup as an appetizer and the hot and sour soup is pretty good. The Dark Horse about this little restaurant is the hot sauce they leave on the tables. Its simply delicious - really spicy, not that salty, but theres also little little hint of sweetness in it too. I put it on everything! The bean sprouts in the chop-suey are nice and fresh and crunchy. You only get three chicken balls in the chicken ball lunch special but what do you want for seven bucks? Its funny because Milton is getting a little chi chi and a lot of lunch specials Ive given 5/5 here in Google Reviews dont even exist anymore. Yeah and Id have to agree with other posters here - the owner could be a little bit friendlier as this is a hospitality business, as in HOSPITABLE... after all.

We ordered at 7pm and it arrived fast, hot and promptly, excellant battered shrimp, overall very good and fast, will order again. It was on a Saturday night we ordered.

Last night I ordered some chicken balls from Gold City location in Milton at 425 Main Street. Today after finishing my left overs i noticed that there was a bug, that looks like a fly, cooked into my chicken balls. I called the store owner, Mike, and told him i was coming in to show him what i found. When going into Gold City the dining area was filthy. Food on the floors, staining on the walls, water stained roof tiles and bottles of liquor with layers of caked on dust. Very unsanitary conditions. After the manager, who was very hesitant, to give me my money back took down my number and told my wife to go by food somewhere else from now on; why because I reported a problem. Not even once did he even apologize, not even once, while being very rude and disrespectful Avoid eating here at all costs.

I normally try not to leave poor reviews but I feel as if its my duty to warn people how bad this food was. We ordered chicken noodle soup which was almost a mushy paste instead of noodles. We ordered a general Tao chicken that was basically just the scraps of fried chicken put in a bowl with an honestly very bland luke warm sauce. It tasted...off. The chicken balls were good, but I mean how do you screw up chicken balls? We got egg noodles that were dry. If I could post pictures here I would because if you could see what we just paid for and what we actually got you would never ever eat here again. There jumbo shrimp is just regular sized shrimp stretched out straight and deep fried like that to look bigger. Its almost like they know their food is garbage and dont care about it when they are actively trying to deceive people like this. Plenty of better Chinese food places to go to eat. Do yourself a favour and stay far away from this place.

Amazingly fresh ingredients and very tasty food. We ordered package dinner for 5B a few nights ago for our Xmas party and our guests and us really enjoyed the meals, especially diced beef vegetable and Almond, breaded shrimps, honey garlic ribs and chicken balls. Everything was so fresh, delicious and hot at pick up time. Even our picky 5 years old and toddlers enjoyed the cantonese chow mein and fried rice as we had asked for everything to be kid friendly (not spicy). I would totally order again for our future gatherings.

It took awhile to find a Chinese food place in Milton that wasnt horrible. This place is hands down the Chinese food that were used to after living in downtown Toronto.

Omg! Im in a family of 6 so we rarely eat Chinese food. but when we do, Gold City is the place to go! We always order takeout and its there likety split! My favourite part about it is that whenever we order it, it comes with like 6 things of wonton soup! Once my brother pranked his friend by giving all of it to him! Overall i really recommend this restraunt. In my oppinion it should be on you gotta eat here!

Good simple gweilo Chinese food. Lunch menu is typical food court fare but you get a whole lot. Definitely will satisfy any greasy Chinese food cravings without the grease.

I really like Gold City. I enjoy coming for lunch or early dinner and the staff and atmosphere are very friendly. One of the owners, Mike, is a really nice and hard-working guy - he knows my orders and he never lets my coffee mug go empty. The lunch specials are the best deal going in town, in my view. For letters A through E you get an egg roll, your choice of soup as well as fried rice, chop suey and a meat-based entree (chicken balls, breaded shrimp, sweet & sour ribs, etc). The menu is all highly Canadianized and very old-school, but thats what people demand in bedroom communities like Milton. When I crave more authentic Chinese cuisine, I hit up Dundas & Spadina in Toronto. Dishes I highly recommend are the hot & sour soup (the staff seem to know I love it, its a bit of a running gag over there), the Cantonese noodle soup (which has a bit of everything), the shanghai noodles (which also have a bit of everything, only with tasty thick noodles and no broth) and the Ma Po Do Fu (not exactly a crowd pleaser for most Western palates though). The reason Ive given it 4 instead of 5 stars is because some of the dishes are simply not up to par with what they are capable of judging by their overall work ethic and friendliness. For example, I wouldnt recommend any of the beef dishes; the beef is rubbery and tasteless and so the beef & broccoli was a big flavourless lunchbox letdown. The curries are also in need of a big flavour injection. To conclude, despite some of its flaws, Gold City is probably the best Chinese restaurant in town. You cant go wrong with any of the traditional Canadianized dishes (except beef & broccoli) and Id highly recommend it to anyone who grew up with this kind of greasy food and is stuck in MIlton with a craving for it without knowing where to go. The smiling faces of the friendly staff will greet you with open arms. PS: Please note that they dont take debit; only cash & credit. (edit: bumped review from four to five stars because I feel that the spirit and overall value of the food and service outweighs any minor criticisms I may have)

If you love hot, fresh, Canadian style Chinese food this is your place. Not huge on atmosphere but best food and friendly, prompt service. Have eaten and/or had takeout 100+ times here easy. General Tso Chicken is my favourite...no other restaurant comes close and weve tried a lot of Chinese restaurants since moving to London, Ontario. We try to have a fix of Chinese whenever we get a chance when visiting Milton.
