My boyfriend and I recently visited Au Pied de Cochon’s sugar shack to try their harvest season menu, and we were blown away! The food was phenomenal, and we had such a memorable experience. My boyfriend even ended up licking the plate clean – that’s how good it was! Our waiter, Kelvin, was AMAZING! He recommended some fantastic cocktails, and each one was spot on. Super friendly, attentive, and helpful throughout the whole afternoon. We were told by Kelvin that we might be the first ones to leave empty-handed after finishing the 12-course service, and we took it as a proud accomplishment! As for the food, I absolutely loved their carrot cake, their squash soup, and their burrata cheese, which they make in-house! From what we heard, they’re the only place in Quebec to do so, and it was truly a treat. We can’t wait to get tickets for their winter menu and go back with our friends and family! Highly recommend this spot for an unforgettable dining experience.

On October 20th, we had a delightful experience at your establishment. It was our first visit, and it certainly won't be our last. The service was impeccable, the staff was friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. I won't go into detail about the food, as I believe the pictures I've attached speak for themselves. All I can say is that you can expect an extraordinary culinary experience, and I highly recommend bringing some takeout containers to savor the flavors at home.

it was our first time (2 ppl) at the au pied de cochon's cabane à sucre and we left with a good experience but wouldn't return as it wasn't suitable for our palette. we arrived for our reservation time at 8:30 pm and left at 11:30 pm. pros: - meal highlights: tomato tart, butternut squash soup, burrata + fruit salad, pork + duck shepherd's pie and carrot cake - our servers/bartenders (we were seated at the bar) were friendly, and explained all our dishes clearly. they also had quick water pouring service! very impressive - generous amount of food - we took home 3 tupperwares - a new and nice experience for us - fire outside to keep folks warm cons: - does not accommodate dietary restrictions (which is highlighted on the website) - upon arrival it was hard to get ahold of the host to notify her that we were there as she was running around and very busy - we were seated at the bar where it was hard to get in and out of the seats due to the heavy chairs, so our servers would need to physically come from behind to push us into our seats - despite the above mentioned, people were constantly pressing into my seat and i was being knocked - with our menu highlights in mind, it didn't seem like the meal was too worth it because we weren't too big of a fan of the other dishes - my personal take: i learned from this meal that im not a fan of foie gras, which is a staple and included in several dishes

Honestly I had no idea what I was in for. I heard of it several years ago, kept trying to get reservations for a few years and this year finally got one. I did not even read the website and just showed up not knowing what to expect. I would say it is in the top 5 meals that I have eaten in my life and I travel all over eating at amazing places. The vibe was great, the service was fantastic (thanks Catherine, Maxim, Bernard and chef Vivianne!), the food was phenomenal! I don’t even want to tell people because I don’t want more competition for reservations but I feel like any foodie deserves to know that they MUST have this experience. I might cry in future years if I don’t get a reservation because I am going back every single year, but I am definitely going to try out their picnic basket option also!

Reservation this year was online starting on Dec 1st. You can reserve for 2 people, but you'll seated at the bar. I've never had such a decadent sugar shack experience, literally foie gras in 1/3 of all the dishes. It was delicious and was stuffed by the time the entrees came. The waiters were bustling everywhere but still took the time to explain each item and filled out cups. The great thing is that you can bring your own Tupperware to bring it back.

Very good time. It was a full house. Staff was amazing. We were seated next to nice people. The food was really good. So much fun waiting for each course. The servings were generous. We had plenty to take home. I saw some seasoned diners brought in their own food containers to bring home leftovers. Overall lovely experience. We plan on doing this annually - if we can manage to get tickets. Merci!

Prepare yourself for an incredibly unique experience that will leave your heart and bellies STUFFED. Cozy, busy, loud, friendly, fun family style eating in a wooden cabin where you're dining on picnic style tables (but nicer ones). The food is phenomenal, such unique flavours but every bite is delicious. You don't know the menu so if you have dietary restrictions or are not an adventurous eater, this place is not for you. The maple syrup on the table is from the farm and available to purchase. Any leftovers are yours to take home and there will be leftovers so highly recommend bringing containers. There's 3 appetizers, 3 entrees and 3 desserts served. Drinks are sold separately. But the meal itself is paid when you make your reservation. This is such an amazing dining experience, I would highly recommend trying it. We drive from Toronto and it was well worth it. Unique dishes served this year were liver and hazelnut mousse Paris Brest, rabbit stuffed chicken with a cherry sauce, maple syrup glazed Peking duck with a black garlic hoisin and daikon, just to name a few. I do recommend wearing warm clothes because you're waiting outside before you're seated but they have a cocktail bar. It's a beautiful venue and the service is phenomenal. You can tell the staff love food and love sharing the experience with you. Every bite of every plate is delicious.

We dined here on the second night of this year's sugar season. We were the last reservation of the night and had arrived early as we were eager to experience the fare, but were unfortunately seated 15 minutes past our designated time because our table had not been cleared in a timely manner. We figured that they would start kitchen service as soon as possible due to the delay to compensate for the wait, but were only served our first course 15 minutes after we had been sat, now half an hour behind our expected dining time. The service was extremely slow and awkward. There was no synergy between the staff, who were bumping into each other and miscommunicating all throughout the night when they weren't busy chatting with each other at the back. We perceived that we were being neglected despite being in the middle of the restaurant, and at times this seemed deliberate. The menu online is completely different than what was served, so I am unable to reference the dishes in the photos. The first few courses showed promise as they were very creative, but disappointingly the mains that followed got heavier and less balanced as the night went on. We found it difficult to pace with so many of the large plates containing beans and meat with nothing on the side to complement, and the portions were simultaneously too much and yet not enough. Overall, would not recommend. We drove from Toronto to experience this and left very disappointed.

What a beautiful gastronomic experience where tastes, flavors and textures are generously chosen. The dishes come together beautifully. However, some dishes arrived rather lukewarm than hot. The service is very pleasant and efficient. The dining room is noisy but that comes with success. We will return there next season to taste a new menu.

We came for a harvest season dinner at the end of September, and everything was delicious! Once seated, the dishes came together quite quickly, with seasonal produce and everything was homemade! We loved the scallop with corn sauce or the shepherds pie and the carrot cake but everything was incredible, its difficult to make a selection. The quality of the dishes and the service largely deserve the success of this establishment and the prices offered (which are very reasonable for this standard). As for the quantities, the proportions are very generous and we left with 2 tupperware per person. We will come back as soon as possible, especially for the sugar season Vegetarian options: The dishes were if possible adapted to be vegetarian, but 1/3 of the dishes were unfortunately not, despite everything the vegetarian person was full at the end of the meal

It was the first time I visited and ate at this restaurant. I eat out quite a lot, and I must say that this was one of the very BEST restaurant experiences I ever had. My sister and I LOVED EVERY DISH. The food, service, atmosphere and everything about this restaurant was top-notch. I give everything a five star - Down to their self control toilet with a bidet lol Their amazing staff at the bar: Catherine, Maxim, Bernard and Vivian were such Beautiful people I LOVED EVERY MINUTE and will definitely be back and will tell the whole world about this awesome place. I have never sat at a bar in a restaurant before, and at first I was not crazy about the bar seat. But let me tell you I will ONLY sit at the bar moving forward at this restaurant BEST SERVICE AND EXPERIENCE HANDS DOWN. Bravo to the amazing owner & staff ..

This is 3rd dining experience here but sadly it will be the last. Service wasn t great. The table wasn t ready when we arrived, it took a good 30 minutes before they took our drinks order, we had to chase servers for cutlery twice once shown the hand by one of the servers. Last hot food service was not hot and we had to waive for a server to explain dishes.

5th visit here, and second disappointment in a row. Our first waitress was coughing and had a loss of voice without wearing a mask. Unable to present us with a dish, because he couldnt speak. Second waitress could not present the dishes to us, for example, here is a lamb dish, and vegetables... While at a distant table we heard a long speech on the presentation of the dishes. We had to ask 3 times to speak to a waiter who could advise us on wine. We had to wait until the 3rd service before they served us the said wine. The first service was lukewarm to cold on arrival (yet a soup). Ordering cider was also difficult, we had to ask 3 times and wait for an entire service before receiving it. The food remains very good, but at this price, it is expected, and perhaps even below expectations. At $125 per person, plus on-site drinks, its a steal for the poor execution and the service completely below expectations. Inexperienced staff, no service, lukewarm dishes, and we were thanked for our patience rather than apologizing... It was our 5th visit to the pigs trotter sugar shack, and probably the last. There are much better, especially in this price range!

You really pay for a great experience. Generosity and diversity of products. The food on each course is very well prepared. Full of delicate flavors, a feast for the eyes and taste buds. Not very spicy. A delicious flavor. We had starters and three main meals, plus cakes. Really delicious. We had to bring almost all the cakes because we simply couldnt eat any more. An excellent experience for the whole family. 1A services, very good customer service. Heated, clean and pleasant toilets Only downside: we had to share a table with smokers so every time they returned from taking a cigar or vaping we smelled the strong smell of nicotine and alquitrán. We must set tables just for smokers and put groups of non-smokers together.

We went there with 4 people in the week of September 9. Some were repeating the experience while for me it was a first. All in all, I enjoyed it and ate well, but quite expensive (Average $180 per head with wine/cocktails) and unfortunately did not really live up to expectations. I ate better than in a sugar shack obviously, but I would have eaten better in a restaurant of my choice at the same price. Food: 4 courses. Excellent food, varied menu and excellent quality. At Pied de Cochon they sold us a lot of food, but we only had enough to satisfy our hunger. My friends confirmed to me that the quantity served is less compared to previous years. There is a variety of dishes served, but I only had a small piece of lamb and for the price paid I would have liked more. Only the dessert you will have difficulty finishing. Price: Very expensive. I have the impression that the prices are inflated by the fact that we are trying to use fancy ingredients. A square of foie gras in the squash soup, which is quite small and even smaller once separated into 4, does not really add to the flavor and tends to break the harmony of the dish. Also grated foie gras on apple tart. Interesting taste, but it raises eyebrows. Service: Very long service. For a reservation at 7 p.m. we left around 10:45 p.m. Given that reservations are made months in advance and its a set menu for everyone, theres no real reason for the slow service. Otherwise the staff was very polite, very kind. On several occasions they apologized for the wait during the evening, even though we were not in a hurry. We got the impression that some employees had difficulty describing the dishes, perhaps less comfortable with the composition of the dishes or culinary terms, but they were very open to discussion and questions. We were very well advised with the wines. Atmosphere: Sugar shack style, its exactly what youd expect. Beautifully located and very beautiful decor. In my opinion the table was at an uncomfortable height compared to the bench and there were several of you seated on the same wooden bench. The ambient music was quite loud to the point where you have to turn it up to have a discussion and you also lose details when explaining the dishes. Conclusion: I am happy to have tried the experience, I left with a full stomach and I advise you to go and form your own opinion, but personally I will not go back.

June 22, 2024

If you want to get back to someone, tell them about this place. First, it is far from Montreal. Second, the place is packed, and they squeezed the tables so much that you have to either ask everyone to get out to make room or youll step on other people in your way to the bathroom. Third, the food is served in a pre-set menu (between 75 and 90 Cad per person, and youll have starters, main, and desert. The waiters are unprofessiona, and the service is at a 1. The food is not well prepare, and the options are based on pig head, lamb, and other pigs parts that are very fatty. Fourth, you have only 3 hours to eat because youll be asked to leave to make room for the next batch of people. Fifth, the bathrooms are not that nice, and they could do a better job when cleaning (clean bathrooms = clean kitchens... thats my motto). Overall, the place is not a place to visit. Theres nothing to do and see. Its like a one hit, and the rest doesnt matter because they know that they wont have the same customers twice.

This was our 4th experience at the sugar shack at Pied de Cochon (3 sugar times and 1 (late) harvest season). Very nice edition. The start of the service was very (too) quick, which did not allow us to appreciate the dishes at their true value. After a brief discussion with an employee in charge, we were able to slow down and take the time to enjoy the moment. The initial approach was slightly condescending, but quickly friendly. We enjoyed each of the dishes. Its amazing to see the research and craftsmanship behind each one. Hats off to the people in the kitchen. Incredible work. Bravo also to the servers who take the time to explain each dish so brilliantly executed. Not always easy with the music being quite loud. Small downside on the cocktails which were not as memorable as those offered in the past. I really appreciated the one made with tequila and condensed milk, which was the tastiest. The others were all too diluted by the ice cream and without any catchy tastes. Damage. Thank you once again for this unforgettable experience. Already looking forward to being hosted for a 5th time next season. In the meantime, we will come and visit you in the summer to take advantage of your summer facilities and taste one of your picnic baskets.

Didn t love the food, at all. We enjoyed one dish (the fish) and the others were all OK. Overcooked rabbit, soogy salad. Desserts were really disappointing. I was hoping the desserts would be delicious but got 3 desserts and one was good, other 2 were sub par. You need to be an adventurous eater. Fois gras, blood pouding, rabbit, duck, creton etc. Creative dishes but didn t deliver in good flavour and a lot of food but not well balanced at all. Also why do they bring 3 dishes at a time? Excellent food, good diversity and above all quality. This isnt traditional sugar shack food, so expect gourmet dishes. Special mentions for starters and desserts. Heaven for foodies (and for photos!). The menu is different every year so its worth going there, for the food and the experience. I left the cabin full, but frustrated... Disappointment in service. We were forgotten 2-3 times. The group next to us had their food first (even though we were there first). Several people from the Au Pied de Cochon team came to apologize and they were all really sweet. Apparently there was a problem with the system... But we waited 20-30 minutes between each service, which is really too long for the price paid... Oops discomfort. Also by the way, they charge $6 for sparkling water, but dont mention it before (giving us the impression that its free as water). Tips for first-time visitors: - Subscribe to the mailing list on their site to find out when to make the reservation. - For the sugar shack meal, do not go there during the first 2 weeks of service. Book from mid-March Give the team time to get used to the rotation, which will greatly reduce service errors and frustration when it is your turn. - I noticed that the 12 p.m.-3 p.m. service is a good time slot VS the rest, because if there is a delay, you will wait a long time outside in the cold. - There is a lot of food, so bring your containers from home.

We have been waiting for a place for 5 years. Yesterday was the big day! We were left mixed for the price. Delicious appetizer. Correct starters...we didnt like the omelette at all with the cretons (??) underneath. Main courses 2/3 were good. The cod with mousseline was difficult to eat because it was so rubbery and the taste...weird. Really surprised that this was served to us because it was such an uninteresting and flavorless dish. Yet we are fish lovers here! Damage. Duck, we loved the breast. We wanted to try to eat the rest, but the skin was so elastic and the meat tough that it was tasty. Again here, too bad. Desserts 2/3 were excellent! Divine Alaska, we still think about it. The strawberry blancmange was good too, but it was too soft. The little flan...on the other hand...uninteresting. No taste, dry paste. Otherwise the atmosphere is good, but the heaters blowing in our faces throughout the meal (3.5 hours) were unbearable. The servers were also inconvenienced. In short, we came away a little disappointed. We expected better execution and more sophisticated dishes. I have the impression that other years were more extravagant for consulting the menus.

March 22, 2024

The worst sugar shack Ive been to date. Bland food, overcooked duck, portions are not that generous. Absolutely not worth the price...and even less worth the detour. Desserts not good either. The best item I consumed in my meal was my beer. But our waitress Charlotte, very kind and very professional. Now I understand why he makes us pay in advance, because after the first plate of starter I would have left the restaurant. If you like good food just go elsewhere! 4 out of 4 we didnt like.

Still disappointed. We arrived at 6:30 p.m., in line for 35 minutes. We started eating around 7:30 p.m. the first 3 starter courses but after that there was a wait of 1h30 for the main courses without any information from the waiters as to why it was so long (never waited that long in a restaurant for my part ). Finally we left the room at 10:30 p.m., it was a long meal. One more thing also there were 5 of us and the people next to us were a group of 3 and the portions to share were the same for us and for them. Suffice to say that for some dishes the portions were tiny. Still disappointing to think that we individually pay the same as everyone else but we have 33% less food. It would be nice to review the portion distribution model based on group size...

March 22, 2024

Worst experience ever. Now I know why they include tip to the $130 a person bill. Service big 0. Cant hear waitress explain what food she is serving us because it so loud as if youre at a concert. So you basically making your own plate but no idea what youre eating. Overpriced , food nothing special. I dont know why people are all gaga for this pied de cochon . Stay away, just go to a regular cabane a sucre( sugar shack).Horrible Horrible Horrible

The WORST sugar shack of my life. To be honest, I was completely influenced by all the positive comments omg, an absolute disappointment! I have eaten in good and expensive restaurants, I am zero cheap with my restaurant budget but really this time, it is the first time that I felt like I was just throwing my money in the trash. They also ask you if you want to add an extra tourtières for $55, honestly for 4 people this mini tourtières gives childrens portions. All my friends had the same impression. The food really isnt good! The duck was poorly cooked (overcooked), by the time we served the duck it took 1 hour or more, one person out of 4 on our table had to leave because they were working, we had not calculated that It will take half a day to eat. Even the desserts are nothing special! Probably last years menu was better but for the year 2024 its to be avoided, now I understand why you have to pay your entire bill in advance haha The only positive thing was Charlotte, our waitress, super nice, sweet and very professional.

After loving their meal boxes during the pandemic, we didnt hesitate for a minute to book at the cabin for their official reopening...and we werent disappointed! Exceptional food, in astronomical quantities, we are two good eaters and brought back enough for one more full meal at home. Hearty dishes, ranging from foie gras with a heart of melting maple butter, to herb soufflé omelette with trout gravlax and caviar, pea soup with glazed bacon, potatoes with cheese and gin sauce, fried syrup pancakes in duck fat, delicious ham and a range of accompaniments, quail in wild mushroom sauce (my favorite by far!), cabbage cigar with duck, rapini and baked beans from the cabin, to finish in style with an avalanche of desserts, some more delicious than the others. Beyond the incredible food, hats off to the team who offer customer service like we unfortunately no longer have the chance to see since the pandemic. Attentive waitresses and waiters who take the time to stop to find out how our evening is going, if we are missing anything, if everything is good. Our bartender Mikaël also knew how to make the evening very pleasant with his good humor and his little touches. Congratulations, this will now be an annual tradition!

Very disappointed that there is no established policy regarding Covid-19. The people with covid in our reservation did not show up at the Sugar Shack to avoid spreading the virus and we had tried to reach the restaurant beforehand to find out the alternatives, but no response. When we arrived at the restaurant, we explained the situation and one of the waitresses was upset at having to accommodate us. They still let us take some of the absentees food with difficulty (we had already paid the total, but several of their dishes were omitted.) I still give 2 stars because the other servers were friendly and the portions are super generous.

Ridiculous, excessive, indulgent, and just about the most spectacular dining experience you can get in Canada. I haven t been back here since 2017 but after closing for COVID for several years, this place absolutely came back with a vengeance. Come prepared with lots of Tupperware - they have takeout containers but it s better if you bring your own. Also please pace yourselves better than we did. This place is really optimal with about 8 people (to a single table) but the minimum must be 4 (I know 2-3 are allowed but then you get less food). The first dish was a foie gras cake, which should set the mood for the rest of the evening of indulgence. Super rich, sweet maple nougat mixed with the savouriness of the foie gras and pistachio cream, all spread onto white bread. It just works. The next dish was one of the greatest things I ve ever seen/had- a lightly cured and half cooked trout on top of a soufflé omelette, covered in beurre monte with salmon roe and caviar. Somehow delicate, light, flavourful, and rich all at once. Absolute show stopper. The next courses came out fast and furious after a brief lull. Pea soup with ham and pork to start, followed by 12 hour cooked ham glazed with maple syrup, served with duck fat fried pancakes drenched in maple syrup, salad with chicharron, goat cheese, maple syrupy eggs, and celery salad- all designed to be stacked into the perfect bite (and it was perfect). The roast chicken (half a chicken for group of 4) was the best roast chicken I ve ever had- absolutely smothered in a rich mushroom cream sauce with morel mushrooms- so unbelievably tender and juicy, not a second overcooked. The only two misses of the evening for me were the cabbage rolls filled with duck farce in tomato sauce- which was bit underseasoned and lacking in flavour, and the meat pie- which was loaded with meatballs, sausage, chunks of ham- just way too much meat, way too rich and fatty, but this may also have had to do with how full we were at this point. The desserts were ridiculous, the maple ice cream was phenomenal, but the pecan pie was way too sweet- disgustingly sweet. I found myself craving for a real candied apple and was astounded to find it was a fake one stuffed with maple mousse and caramelizes apple bits. I drowned my sorrows in my maple syrup infused cocktails instead. The stuffed cronut with maple cream and maple cotton candy was just the final nail in my coffin. I can die happy now. Great service, great dinner, and now we have leftovers for days. I ll need a cardiologist after this, you should go see yours too.

The staff were the highlight of my recent visit. Everyone was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the food and the experience. While the meal was a lovely, inspired take on a cabane a sucre, I find it difficult to actually compare this experience to a cabane a sucre. There were no staples ... TINY amount of eggs, no bacon, no crepes, and the maple syrup seemed to be an after thought apart from the dessert (it is a cabane a sucre after all!). The foie gras cake was too over the top and while masterfully done, was too much for me. Sure you can take whimsical spins on everything, but throwing in one staple that wouldve complemented the maple syrup and maple dijon that were full and waiting to be used at the centre of the table, wouldve gone a long way. The six courses seemed to be somewhat random rather than building towards a concept or design. The dessert was by far one of the best Ive ever had in my life! The price is extremely reasonable for the experience and while I may not be going back yearly, would recommend for everyone.

Returning to the Pied de Cochon sugar shack since the pandemic, we were not disappointed. On the menu, layered foie gras, a real delight for foie gras lovers, the deeper you dig into the layers, the tastier it is. The trout is boneless and excellent in the mouth. We had an additional tourtière with pan-fried foie gras, sweetbreads, duck heart. Of course, the pea soup revisited with bacon, I lost count afterwards, there was stew, Cornwall chicken, cabbage cigars and lots of other things. We finished with a multitude of desserts. We took a lot of it home for a second serving the next day.

In the balance, the experience could be resumed in two words: utter disappointment. We planned the dinner months in advance and had family flying from abroad to share the experience with them. It was chaotic even before it started. We arrived (as requested) 15 minutes earlier than our scheduled time. It was then when we were told that we had to wait for our pre-assigned table to clear before we could go in. 45 minutes later we were still waiting in the cold. At that point we walked in and waited between tables, as it was too much for some of our family members to bear. When we were finally led to our table we waited 30 minutes before the first of our drinks appeared. 30 minutes more for the first dish to come out of the kitchen. We noticed that we were being served less than other tables, even when we were more people (you pay per person, thus you would expect to have proportional serving portions). 1 hour later and the second serving hadnt come out. After speaking to the manager we got an apology from the chef (not in person, of course, he is too good to be bothered by mistreated paying customers like ourselves). They brought their famous tourtiere and added in some extra servings to make up for their poor handling of the situation. At that point, dinner was ruined and the whole experience was not worth the trouble. It seems that, regardless of the months of preparation (you reserve, cash up front, on December 1st - our dinner was on March) they acted as complete amateurs who were not ready to receive us. They were severely understaffed and the food was presented cold, if at all. This is a hyped-up over rated place that doesnt live up to the expectations. Dont waste your time and money, Montreal has much more to offer and a traditional Cabane a Sucre is worth every penny.

One of the best gastronomic experiences in my life in terms of flavor...ok its very rich but so good. Beautiful presentation of the dishes, nice friendly cabin and not too big. Good service, ok price for the quality and quantity of meals. 1 negative point on the other hand, when we arrived, we were offered to consume a few things but the presentation of taking their hot drink for $30 was very bad. We took something else but I didnt like the approach at all. Once seated 30 minutes late in the schedule, we are asked if we want to have the lake tourtière for $48 without even knowing what awaits us. Once again a kind of pressure sales and we didnt like it at all. In short, the customer presentation approach should be reviewed. Im going to give 5 stars anyway because everything was perfect except this approach. Hoping that the administration sees my comment and adjusts. Otherwise I encourage you to try it once in your life.
