Michelle and I had an opportunity to go to Black Rabbit last week for the Moncton Eats event. Although the conversation and company were amazing as per usual, I was not as impressed by the restaurant. When a restaurant has been nominated for the Air Canada list of new Canadian restaurants, there is a certain bar that needs to be achieved. I have been to many of these restaurants across Canada and they take dining to a new level. My first disappointment was the fact that the cocktail menu consisted of only two options, and one was not available. When I asked if they were able to create something whiskey-based, I was told no. I elected to take the suggestion of a melon drink, and although the flavour was refreshing, it was most definitely a summer drink. The wine was good as would be expected and as traditional in a lot of local higher-end restaurants. The next disappointment was that there was only one vegetarian dish on the menu, and it was a plate of $20 carrots served cold. Despite this, the server suggested that the kitchen could possibly make something off their upcoming vegan menu. Thankfully, there was a beet ravioli dish that served the purpose. My short rib dish was very good — fell off the bone, rich in flavour, and no gristle. Whereas my short rib was served warm, the ravioli were served less than warm. We elected to go for a pint instead of trying the dessert. There is a possibility that we chose a night where the organization wasn’t where it needed to be with a menu transition and a new vegan menu being prepared. However, if a restaurant is going to have a transitioning menu, that means there cannot be a “down” night. The cocktail menu also needs to be seasonal and have somewhat varied options for people who want something more than an old fashion.

We celebrated our anniversary here this evening and the staff went above and beyond for us. There was a little personal message on our menu which was lovely. We did the tasting menu and it was worth every cent. A sensational selection of food. Brilliant service. Will be back again for sure.

The first time we were there, we loved it so much. The chef tasting menu was wonderful. Customer service was the best that we had in Moncton. Best wine list that we have seen so far in Moncton too, they have bottles that are not in the menu if you ask their staff. We had the a la carte menu the 2nd time, didn’t like it. It was the truffle week so we were excited to get some fresh truffle but didn’t like any dishes that night especially the risotto and the pasta. Again customer service and wine selection were exceptional but the food wasn’t consistent.

Our evening at the Black Rabbit was probably our favorite experience in an restaurant ever. We had the seasonal tasting menu with the wine pairing. It was worth every penny and absolutely made our anniversary dinner special. From the drinks, the food, the wine and the Service! Everything was perfect. We'll definitely be back for the next season.

Went to Black Rabbit in Moncton, NB in September of 2023 for a birthday celebration, because we had heard good things about it from the Internet. We appreciate quality cuisine, but it seems that true fine dining hasn't quite made its way to Moncton, New Brunswick yet. This review will center on the excessive use of foam and peculiar creativity we encountered during our “fine”dining experience at Black Rabbit. The good: The dining room's cozy modernity promised an intimate culinary journey. The service sparkled with genuine smiles and helpfulness, and the bread, simple yet satisfying, was a comforting anchor in a sea of gastronomic uncertainty. The not-so-good: The kitchen, resembling a teen drama cast more than a professional culinary team, led us to question, "Where's the chef?" Dining alongside only one other party at 7 PM felt eerily quiet for a supposedly popular spot. The oysters were very fresh and after dousing with lemon, the accoutrements for it including the horseradish were very bland. The watermelon sashimi was extraordinarily silly. Simply dusting a slice of watermelon with Mrs. Dash seasoning and placing it atop compressed rice doesn't magically transform it into a convincing sashimi substitute for meat eaters. The appy of seared scallops, tasty by themselves, were sadly lost in a confusing muddle of blueberries and an unnecessary yellow foam. Why ruin perfectly good scallops with such frivolity? Our main courses continued this trend of foam fascination. The tenderloin sat forlornly on a scallop like whatever, and was simply boring. A little roux on the side would have been nice. A little seasoning of the meat or charring would have been nice. That was a very lonely dish, its only companions being aimless swirls of foam. The squid ink pasta was not very adventurous. I don’t even remember what kind of shredded meat was thrown on it, although I think it was supposed to be rabbit. Does rabbit come in a can? Because that’s what it tasted like. Again accompanied by a side of foam decoration. Cocktails were the only standard fare, a safe harbor in that stormy sea of culinary experiments. In the end, Black Rabbit, has got the service down pat, but someone controlling the kitchen is overzealous and misguided in their creativity and it leaves much to be desired. If not for the welcoming service, I'd seriously wonder how they’ve managed to hop along in Moncton's food scene for so long.

What can I say! This was such a treat and great experience. A friend of mine told me about this place when I arrived in Moncton a year ago. Hadn't had the chance to go until this past weekend when he and his wife thought I was overdue. Good things come to those who wait, right? Well it was worth the wait. Actually wish I had gone sooner. We experienced their ten course meal. We decided to go with the wine pairing as well. Everything was phenomenal! The staff was very knowledgeable. They explained every course and the wine. Was nice that it wasn't just the server who came to us. We also had the Maître D and Chef come by and help with making this experience one to remember. I also really enjoyed the decor. Was pleasantly surprised considering its in a building with other businesses. If you're looking to wow a loved one, friend, business associates or just yourself, the Black Rabbit is the place to be!

Like many others, I found out about this place through social media and was saddened to hear they will be closing. I decided to check their Google page and see how social media has benefitted them, but it seems like it has only done nothing but force people to come and write fake one star reviews. In light of these events and having never been I ll have to rate based on my perception from afar. 5 stars all around.

Good atmosphere and service, Now I m a chef myself and all I can say is the food is just pretentious with some truly bizarre combinations, granted 3 of the dishes I really enjoyed But I do feel you are in some ways over complicating certain elements of your menu and it s important to make the food sound as good as it will taste, Some of the presentation was a bit on the boring side too, with things on the plate that didn t belong, Overall okay but you guys have a long way to go yet, just stop with the pretentious food, pair your ingredients a little better, understand some things just don t go together no matter what you pickle it in or flavour it with and I m sure I d be back!

My partner and I have never had such an amazing culinary experience in our lives. The food and staff exceeded our expectations. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and very accommodating. My partners menu had been adjusted to accommodate her gluten and lactose intolerances. For the first time in my partners life, she was able to enjoy a meal without having anything taken away from the experience. The food was creatively and positively altered to accommodate her. I wasnt expecting them to have gone above and beyond like this for her, but it made me genuinely happy. The passion, attention to detail as well as the friendliness from staff and chefs alike could be felt through the entirety of the meal. My hat is off to all the staff on the night of August 22nd 2024. My partner and I cannot wait to come back and see what more your team has to offer to the world. We were both sad to not see more people sitting with us enjoying this amazing meal. I personally cant wait to see how far your restaurant goes. Wishing you all the best and see you next year!

August 22, 2024

Having a chef pretend like he knows what he s doing and horsing around an posting it on TikTok while in your kitchen makes a person not wanna try your restaurant as I d rather someone pay attention while preparing food rather then goofing around aka chef Thompson

August 22, 2024

Hard to take this place seriously when theyre posting videos of themselves making medium rare chicken. It was stuffed inside a burger bun and presented. Obviously that dish was thrown out. Food Cost, Food waste...

Probably the worst meal Ive had in years, I cannot believe that this place is marketed as fine dining. (French follows) - I recently had the pleasure of experiencing the Black Rabbit restaurant, and I must say that my experience was truly delightful. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere that instantly put me at ease. The Black Rabbit restaurant hosted an exclusive event in partnership with Epoch Chemistry coffee house, which caught my attention as a coffee enthusiast. Furthermore, as a vegetarian, I was delighted to find that the restaurant offered similar culinary options without meat, which added to my appreciation of the event. The quality of the food at the Black Rabbit was remarkable in my opinion. The dishes we ordered were truly delicious. The flavors were harmoniously balanced, and the portions were perfectly suited for a fine dining establishment. I particularly want to highlight the creativity of the vegetarian dishes, which were equally delicious and successfully competed with their meat-based counterparts in terms of taste satisfaction. The service was also impeccable. The staff was attentive and courteous, always ready to answer our questions and recommend dishes. We truly felt that our satisfaction was their top priority, which contributed to making our evening even more enjoyable. The ambiance of the Black Rabbit was pleasant. The soft lighting and neat decoration created an intimate and relaxing atmosphere, perfect for an evening out with friends or a romantic date. In conclusion, I highly recommend the Black Rabbit to anyone seeking an exceptional dining experience. Whether youre vegetarian, vegan, or a meat lover, this restaurant will satisfy your taste buds with its delicious cuisine and attentive service. Some of the food was great but we couldnt eat two of the courses, one was way too salty to enjoy. The other was a piece of halibut served raw for my wife and cooked for me, we had to return the raw one and got offered a cocktail. For the price we paid for two (~450$), these mistakes are simply unexcusable.

It was our first time trying a tasting menu and we did absolutely love the experience of it all. The food tasted amazing, unlike anything I have ever experienced, but the portions were too small for my liking. I know that s how tasting menus work, but you do leave wanting some more food. The service was mind blowing, you could not ask for better treatment. Unfortunately they only get 4 stars there because the waitor asked us to decide to try the wine tasting before providing a menu, but did not provide us with the correct price (He said ~40$/person, where it was in fact 75$/person). We would have chosen differently had we been properly informed. Overall, It was absolutely worth the experience, but I would not return due to the price that I was not prepared for at the end.

The visuals, aromas, and flavors of everything from the cocktails to starters, entrees and dessert, were exceptional. What an experience! Alfred paired wines expertly throughout the evening. Lucs vision for a restaurant that does things differently is so cool. Black Rabbit invests in itself by paying fair wages to all of its staff (no tips, everyone gets a salary), they practice balance and health - they eat together before opening, they exercise together, they invest in coaching and growing as a team. You can feel it - all the staff are present, smiling, friendly. Knowing that just makes the food taste better for me...its like happy beef! Lol I cant say enough - if youre looking for elevated fine dining that isnt stuffy, in an atmosphere of leading edge HR in the food industry, in a lux but comfortable setting...hop over to Black Rabbit. Its a real treat, a hidden gem on St. George Street, in The Arches.

Took my girlfriend out for her birthday to the Black Rabbit. We had the tasters Menu, a 10 course service with wine pairings for the entire meal. This was, and I say this without exaggeration, the BEST dining experience we ever had. What set the experience apart was not only the unique combinations of flavours and textures of the food, but the team that made it all happen. From Luc the owner, to Albert the Maitre D, to Mark and Jenna and ofcourse Phil the head chef and his team in the kitchen. Each one of them came to see us to talk to us about each course, and talked to us about the wine pairings and their background, the food itself, the vision behind each course. I have never in all my dining experience from big cities like Montreal to Toronto to dining in restaurants in Europe have I ever had such an incredible experience and tasted such amazing combinations. I highly recommend that anyone contemplating where to go for a special occasion to simply wanting to dine in an environment that makes you feel like youre part of the process make a reservation immediately. And go see for yourself. You wont be disappointed.

A truly amazing evening full of culinary amazement and delight. There was a lovely atmosphere here, which I would describe as laid back but dynamic. A nice soundtrack was playing, not the elevator music bore one might expect and the host was concise yet knowledgeable and passionate. It was a little dark but that just added to the intimacy. All the dishes were perfectly balanced and paired with a lovely diverse selection of wines. There is only one dish out of the entire course that wasnt paired as well, but still managed to create interest. Having certain intolerances, they catered to my needs perfectly, swapping ingredients while maintaining that perfect balance of color, textures and flavors. It was extremely pleasing to see that I didnt inconvenience them, but rather challenged them to come up with alternatives that, I could easily tell, they were passionate about. They really care about the food. They also care about where the food comes from, you can expect a wide variety of some of the best local products! So as far as taste and texture balance, color and presentation, and the amount of consideration that went into every dish, I can say without a doubt that this is by far the best dining experience in the region. It does not only compete with local fine dining restaurants but far beyond. An easy five star here. Anyone would benefit greatly from dining here at least once. This will easily become a favourite of ours.

Black Rabbit is fantastic! I have been to the restaurant at least once a month for over seven months now, sometimes even multiple times a month if they change their menu. They have a great team that is super friendly and genuinely interested in making the experience a great one. The team all work together collaboratively to make the menu and flavors work together, and as someone who has been to other fine dining restaurants in the city, I think that goes a long way in making the food better! I usually get the wine tasting paired with the food, and Alfred is typically great at pairing the wines with the food, and if you have a question about the wine, he knows everything about it, which is nice. You usually get a range of mixtures between red, white, champagne, dry, sweet, or a mix of the two. It s never dull. The restaurant is small, but the atmosphere is unique. The lighting is always perfect, not too bright, and the music is relaxing and not too loud. If you wanted to try fine dining for the first time with family or as a first date, or even if you wanted to go alone and sit at the bar, this would be a great place to go!

The food is decent, the staff are friendly and the atmosphere is fine. But the pricing on the food is a bit steep. Especially when you consider the portion sizes on their tasting menus. For example: a one centimetre wide croque madame, which is basically two long lego pieces stacked on top of each other (one piece being ham, the second being the bread, on top of cheese sauce)?? When there are other similar food experiences in town, with better portions, it s a wonder anyone would choose this place twice over any of them.

Finally... Finally a restaurant where fresh products come first, where meals have different layers of textures, temperatures, seasoning, acidity. Now we can put Moncton on a map for foodies. We must sanctuary this gem, so it will go stay for years and they can sharpen their skills. Come here to increase your tasting library. A good step before Michelin stars restaurant.

We were a group of 10, and everyone had the tasting menu. Several of the group had been here before, and they highly recommended it. This is not a mainstream restaurant. Their website says they push boundaries and they most certainly did. The atmosphere was unique with some beautiful artwork. The presentation was excellent and unique. Our server, Alfred, was very friendly and attentive, and gave a short speech about each course and was very knowledgeable about food and beverages. The lobster was the best I have had with an amazing sauce and handkerchief. All the food had good texture, complexity and not too spicy. The only suggestion I have is to have more Canadian and local choices in the beer and wine lists. This is definitely in the top three restaurants we have eaten in anywhere. We will return, and I would suggest this establishment to anyone who wants a first class dining

My short rib dish was very good fell off the bone, rich in flavour, and no gristle. Whereas my short rib was served warm, the ravioli were served less than warm. We elected to go for a pint instead of trying the dessert. There is a possibility that we chose a night where the organization wasn t where it needed to be with a menu transition and a new vegan menu being prepared. However, if a restaurant is going to have a transitioning menu, that means there cannot be a down night. The cocktail menu also needs to be seasonal and have somewhat varied options for people who want something more than an old fashion.
