Welcome to Hynes Restaurant, a cherished establishment founded by James and Elizabeth Hynes in 1939, originally situated on the corner of St. George and High Street. Since 1957, we’ve been proudly serving our community from our current location at 495 Mountain Road, Moncton, New Brunswick, E1C2N4. For over seven decades, Hynes Restaurant has been delighting patrons in the Moncton area of New Brunswick with our flavorful meals and irresistible comfort foods. Our menu boasts a variety of specialties, including hearty home-cooked meals, satisfying all-day breakfast options, convenient frozen u-bake dinners, our renowned Homemade Boiled Icing Cake, an assortment of pies and desserts, and a dedicated children’s menu.
I ubered baked beans (awesome), 3 sausages (awesome), and one piece of blueberry pie. The pie was soggy, and you could tell it had been frozen prior which upsets me because I can't imagine anyone wanting frozen homemade pie. Very disappointed.
Delicious lobster roll! visiting Moncton for work and got to try the famous lobster roll. The food portion was relatively small imo but tasty. It came with fresh fries and coleslaw. Staff were friendly and service was fast.
Great diner experience. Fast, friendly, and efficient service. The food was good diner style fare. We had the Cheeseburger Platter (served with onion rings AND fries), the Fish N' Chips, and an Eggs Benedict. All were great tasting. We will be back.
Great little family diner feel, portions were huge. And food was fantastic
It was good food with warm atmosphere. Your coffee is full and dishes are not expensive. But now the new owners so will see.
I ordered 4 dishes turkey plate, lobster platter, mushroom soup and fish&chips. I highly recommend the creamy mushroom soup!! Lobster platter was include french fries and coleslaw. Overall not bad and good price :)
Good experience. Staff was friendly. Lobster Roll Deluxe: It was a pleasant blend of texture. The toasted bread gave it a good warm crunch paired well with the cool fresh lobster. Overall, it was a refreshing plate and a great take on the classic lobster roll. Lobster Benedict: The lobster flavour was overpowered by the hollandaise sauce. The eggs were tasty and potatoes cooked with onions were a hit. Presentation was well done. I wouldn’t come back for the Lobster Benedict but definitely for the Lobster Roll Deluxe. Overall a pleasant experience.
They have amazing breakfast for the price. service is awesome. It has a cozy warm Vibe and the waitresses greet you with a smile. They seem very happy to serve you. I am probably going to go back. I love the bacon and eggs with the pan fries everything was cooked to my liking. I would recommend this breakfast spot if you're nearby.
Great food prices and staff
Worst breakfast fries in town!
Dietary restrictions: Sans gluten et sans produits laitiers Food
Excellent
Very good food but a little pricey for breakfast
I have known this restaurant since the 1960s, everything has always been Excellent!
Our family favorite place in Moncton!
Always filling and delicious! Never disappointed:]
Best restaurant in town.
There is definitely a difference since the change of ownership. I am disappointed to see that the staff have stopped smiling mostly. Errors are more prone now within the orders too. The general feeling seems to be volume and that relaxed, friendly atmosphere that used to be the rule of the day seems shadowed. I hope it balances out soon.
Nice little spot for a sunday breakfast their fish soup is the best Ive tried so far! The waitress are soo kind that feels like home
Went in for supper today. I was going to have the Salmon special with mashed potatoes but they didnt have any mashed potatoes left, it was 5:30 ! So I had a cup of soup and western, my bill came to $17 and some change. What I didnt like is when I payed the bill the guy with glasses and beard didnt even say hi, or a thank-you ! I wont be back they certainly are not like the previous owners. The waitress was very nice tho.
Nice old fashion diner, had seafood chowder and grilled cheese, was good about $17 tax and tip, food was fine, looks better for breakfast.
Wheelchair accessibility: There is a ramp right up to the front door. Food
So I asked like 4 times to lightly cook my meal do to I have no teeth and when my meal got to table the fries werent cooked at all and my burger and onion rings were burnt and hard as a rock to the point I could not eat anything and it cost me over 20 $ for something i could not eat I asked the waitress like 3 times to lightly cook my order do to I have no teeth she even repeated it to me I highly recommend not to go there
Old style diner love it . Parking: Around the back Food : 4/5 |
We used to go here every Saturday morning, before I had a brain tumour removed!!! Their staff and food never let me down!!! I hope to go back soon but Im still recovering, from the brain tumour I had for 44 years! The employees and staff are top notch, and go above and beyond for their clients!!! I wish them nothing but the best for the future and I hope to make my way back there soon! All the BEST, Bruce Mullins
Had breakfast here for the first...and last time. Service was ok or average. I would feel really embarrassed to deliver the breakfast I was served on a smaller salad plate with so little food and charge someone $16 for it. 2 eggs, 2 sub par sausages and a glass of juice. There was more white space than food on my plate with not even a lousy orange garnish or tiny sprig of parsley.
I dont know what changed recently but the food got considerable worse. And its a bit expensive for what you get.
Great food . Loved it I would recommend it
Food was really good authentic seafood
Kid-friendliness: Kid menu good Wheelchair accessibility: Washrooms wheelchair accessible, ramp leading into restaurant, the gaps are wheelchair accessible too Food : 5/5 |
Expensive and lackluster. My breakfast was bland and the interior is very dated, was hoping for homestyle but got soulless.
Hands down, Hynes Restaurant is Monctons best breakfast spot! From their hearty portions to their friendly service, every visit here is a delight. The menu offers a fantastic variety of breakfast classics done to perfection whether youre craving fluffy pancakes, crispy bacon, or a hearty omelette, theyve got you covered. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, making it the perfect place to start your day. Plus, the coffee is always fresh and hot! Highly recommend for anyone looking to enjoy a delicious breakfast in Moncton.
So good all around but the service really shines!
Awsome staff. Great food. Favorite place to eat when we are in moncton.
Had a great experience, we walked in and after sitting down we put our order in and literally within a few minutes a nice breakfast came out - food was really good, tasted fresh... Etc, our server was nice and courteous. Thank you for a good Sunday morning breakfast.
Hynes is an amazing family dinner.
Friendly place and fast service great food
Good
Not the Hynes I remember. Hardly any customers at 8am and prices have gone up a lot compared to a year ago. Food was mediocre at best. I only ate half of it.
Giving 3 stars for the chocolate cake but food was just awful.
I got a delivery of an eggs benny and got some strangely small eggs on Ham that I asked for it to not have, and no seasoning. The hollandaise did not taste like other hollandaise Ive had in the past.
Dont know who was in the kitchen this morning, but I dont think it was Andy, who is usually there. Pancakes were undercooked the grilled hashbrowns were barely grilled and the eggs were tasteless. How is that even possible? Washrooms could use some attention. Wait staff were great as always.
The frozen fries are always undercooked and the guy tells me their customers like them that way. Yeah ok. Club house has very little turkey or anything but mayo. Club house for two is just extra undercooked fries. You would think some extra pieces of sandwich.
Sliding downhill fast, my early bird special was nowhere near its former glory. Time to move on I guess. Service was good. But food was a miss
Our favourite Restaurant since 1980s. Food, service & lovely ambience never disappoints me and my wife. Overall full-pack outstanding service from start to end. Must recommended restaurant. Wheelchair accessibility: Easy for wheel chair accessibility.
Delicious food with great customer friendly atmosphere.
An exceptional dining experience from start to finish! The ambiance was inviting, the service was attentive yet unobtrusive, and every dish we tried was a masterpiece of flavors and presentation. A definite must-visit for anyone looking to indulge in culinary excellence.
Delightful Canadian Breakfast Gem! Located in the centre of Moncton city, Hynes Restaurant offers a quintessential Canadian breakfast experience. From fluffy pancakes to locally sourced bacon and exceptional service, its a perfect start to any day. Dont miss their egg Benedict its a culinary treat worth savoring. Highly recommended for both visitors and locals alike!
Welcoming atmosphere, GREAT service, and yummy food. Prices were very reasonable!!
New owners, new higher prices. It used to be our go-to place for weekly breakfast. Sadly we will miss our favorite diner.
I Love there food great place to eat very friendly people :)
I ve been going to this restaurant for years since 1972 while going to high school
Best diner in town. Great food. Great service.
The foods alright, but their prices are way too high and the staff looks sad all the time, they never smile.
It isnt what I remember from growing up, and my last meal was not appetizing.
They wont allow people to PURCHASE a meal if they look homeless. Revolting to say the least.
Always great food at a good value. This is a March 2024 review, the food has large portions, the service was great, they have new owners keep up the great job. We will be back.
Used to go for breakfast at Hynes almost every time while visiting Moncton, enjoyed the food and atmosphere, unfortunately doesnt look the same with a new owner...just getting worse, probably will be looking for different restaurant next time...
I like food...
Amazing food, great service and staff always friendly. Love it!
Great spot for a quick breakfast; awesome service
Loved the lobster roll for lunch
Great little diner with a great steak and eggs breakfast. Try the corned beef hash instead of hash browns. You won t be disappointed.
Traditional diner. Very friendly staff, quick service and home made food at its best.
My new favorite restaurant in Moncton. A classic - great food at great prices. The fish chowder on Fridays is just like Grammas
Was always good, had one bad experience but since then always good ! The staff is always welcoming to ANYONE.
New owners ... and I can honestly say its the best food Ive had there
Food and waitress was great, had an issue paying, guy working cash put my payment thru, it said approved on debit machine, then he proceeded to holler as we wre leaving in front of orher customers, tell me it didnt go thru so I checked my online banking account and it clearly listed it had been taken out of my accountand said Hynes Restaurant. when I showed him he said the date was incorrect it said Feb 5, this was Feb 3 Saturday everyone knows they only post on Mondays, He told me if YOU say so, more than once when I showed my account, I was made to feel like a thief he let us leave, but we will not return. Very poor customer experience.
New Owners. Still excellent. We enjoyed our meals, we found that the food was delicious and consistent
I recommend this restaurant to everyone for a great meal with best prices. The staff is so polite and serves you like family. The place is net, clean and sanitize all the time. The food was fresh and yummy. It feels like home and i loved the food. I will for sure visit this place again.
Straight-ahead diner with plenty of options, including seafood dishes. A local institution- has been a part of Moncton forever!
Hynes is a classic diner through and through. In fact its hard to really say much about it. It doesnt feel particularly unique. But not every restaurant needs to be some crazy experience. Sometimes all you want is some simple food executed well at a reasonable price. Especially at breakfast time. Though their lunch is good too. Anyway, the point is Hynes is a great little spot in the heart of Moncton who will serve you a simple but well made meal in a short amount of time.
Been awhile..decent breakfast
Great diner food, amazing breakfast and delicious pies
a jewel felt like home and the fish and chip was the best in my life Parking: its the other side of the small street and lot around Food : 5/5 |
Best in town. Prices are very fair and the staff is above and beyond. Will be back many more times.
I love this place. Everything that i have ordered from here has been so good and doesnt disappoint. Staff are kind and its such a cozy place.
Going there is like watching Dancing with the Stars. Watching the wait staff maneuver around each other carrying various plates empty and full, and a quick clean up for the next hungry patrons, well it is a treat. Zigging and zagging around each other is amazing. Now the food, well I love their breakfast. And hot coffee is flowing all the time. Cant wait to go again.
Staff serving was really nice and very understanding, food took longer than expected to get out as there was only a few patrons in the restaurant when we showed up. But over all it was nice.
Tried Hynes breakfast. Heavy but nice!
Enjoyed breakfast Service was excellent
Its always good.
Welcoming place, home cooked meals. The fricot and the corn chowder were excellent. Had the hot turkey special and it hit the spot.
Absolutely the best!!!
Was there a long time ago and the food was great....been there 3 times in the last month and the food was either awful or not cooked what I asked for....3 times...3 strikes your out...I wont be back and wont recommended
Food was good but 17$ for a Meat Omelet with two pieces of Toast is outrageous! I certainly would not go back!! Food
Good food, good atmosphere, great service. Kind of a shame seeing the prices jump so high recently or itd be 5 stars Food
Im obsessed with this mom and pop shop. The menu is so big and the food was top notch. The staff are incredible and Im definitely coming here more often.
Always a great experience. Food is excellent as well as friendly service.
Super friendly and attentive waitress serving up delicious food! The food filled us up but we couldnt resist a slice of pecan pie and a slice of coconut cream pie. Mmmmm!
Always good food and great service. Never really waited long for service or to be seated.
The food and service were excellent. Youll be seeing us again. Wheelchair accessibility: Right in front of restaurant Food : 5/5 |
Delicious
Great service, Great food as usual
Food is delicious, prices are fair, staff is friendly. A great family-style restaurant thats been around a long time.
Basic lobster roll is definitely worth it.
ONE EXTRA EGG ***********$3.99******** WOWWWWWWWWWW I TRAVEL A LOT, N E V E R SEEN THAT.......
Service was great. Food arrived quickly. Prices are good.
We love Hynes for homemade meals when we are too lazy to fend for ourselves! If you are a fan of Mac & Cheese, they have the best homemade one in the city. Bonus points go to the fact that you can order it as a side dish for breakfast. Brilliant!
Its a nice home vibe! THE FOOD IS SO GOOD! great for the family, friends or even a date! I love it here! Its pretty cheap it was 77 bucks for 4 people and thats not bad for a meal that filled us up!!
The food was so good and the staff was very friendly!
This is the first time I was there and it was the best place to eat, the service was awesome
After reading the reviews, I was disappointed with the service I received at this well known place. Arrived shortly after 11am and greeted with a smile, it was not busy when we arrived. Since it was after 11am I was informed pan fries would be extra 4.79 to my breakfast order. We surprisingly were never checked in on by our waitress who walked by multiple times. I did not receive the straw I asked for with my water and the orange juice tasted thin and watered down. My partner got the hot Turkey Sandwich with pan fries on the side, which ended up being flavourless and underdone with lots of onions. Over all - bang for your buck wasn t great here. Will not be back.
Great food, great service!
The food is very delicious. Staff is very friendly
This place is a diamond in the ruff! The food is amazing, portion sizes are fantastic, loves the service, beautiful old tyme famiky restaurant!
Friendly staff .. food mediocre .. burger tasted like McDonalds.. small pattie. (processed/frozen). Jeans restaurant has better hamburgers. Strawberry shortcake was delicious.
Its a staple in Moncton. Lots of comfort food and the best eggs Benedict in the city. Prices have gone up by a few bucks but still more than worth it.
This is a great the best family restaurant around in moncton excellent service nice people and workers are very friendly and polite
Best place to eat so far for the price and the cook here is very good at his job
It is really an amazing place with outstanding service. All staff were really friendly and cheerful. They gave my kid some colours and an animals drawing to keep her happy. I will go there again of course. Kid-friendliness: They gave my kid a drawing paper and colours which made her so happy and excited to the place.
Fricot today had way too much summer savory. I was able to eat the vegetables but not the broth. This is the 1st time I have ever not liked the main course. Bread pudding was great.
So freaking expensive, it must be some kind of joke...
Cant beat this place for a home cooked meal with great service! Best diner experience in the city, hand down.
Whenever were in Moncton, we try to make it to Hynes for at least one meal. The atmosphere is that of a fifties family diner. Very relaxing atmosphere. The meals, no matter what you choose from the menu, are always above par. Try as you.may, you wont find staff that are more open, welcoming, and friendly. If you dont leave the restaurant feeling better, then you have a problem. It is a great place to go for a relaxing and fulfilling visit.
Quick service. Reasonably priced, decent serving sizes.
Had breakfast here. Only 2 slices of bacon with our 2 eggs but the same price as our regular breaky spot. No cellular wifi either.
Very impressed by the quality of food. They even went out other way to make a healthy fish burger for me with salad. Dietary restrictions: Healthy Wheelchair accessibility: No stairs
If I didn t have the recommendation from a local, I would have never thought to try the place. It s a place the brings me back to how local restaurants use to be. Homemade, good portions and great tasting food. The waitresses knew several customers by name. You don t see that at many places anymore. I look forward to going back.
Kid-friendliness: Crayons and coloring page provided, well priced kids menu Food
Enjoyed some beef barley soup which was delicious!! My partner enjoyed a toasted BLT!! We loved our meals and the friendly atmosphere!! We always do!!
Had a feast here 10 years ago and never forgot the place... returned here 10 years later and the place looked the same way I remembered... prices of the food are up, $98 feeds a family of 4... 2 adults and 2 children.
Down to earth staff, family-style restaurant with a great selection. Yes, they do make the best lobster rolls! And the strawberry shortcake was delicious!
The food tasted like it was in a freezer for like 2 months the service was alright nothing special and the atmosphere was uncomfortable
Such a lovely, homey feeling. Great food, friendly staff!
This is an older place for sure but it s clean and the food is excellent! It s truly a hidden gem and don t be surprised if there is a line up.
Great experience having brunch.
Our Moncton brekkie spot.
The pancakes are what I usually take. They are delicious.
Great spot to meet up and grab a bite
Great home-style cooked meals. Relaxed diner atmosphere. Friendly staff. Always enjoy Hynes.
Who doesn t love Hynes restaurant, yummy grub and great service! I had the pleasure of being served by Stephanie who was an absolute ray of sunshine! She made our night extra special.
We had two 2 egg and sausage lunches and found it very disappointing. The potatoes were not cooked well despite the fact that we had asked for well done. Lunches did not come with any fruit and it was impossible to order any except a banana. We were surprised by the high price for two such simple and minimalist lunches (over $20 not including tip). The carpet didnt seem to be cleaned well, as I had allergies. I had to constantly blow my nose to the point where I had to take antihistamines.
Its a family restaurant. I had lunch and I liked it. I was surprised to be served on an 8 inch plate but at the same time I often have too much on my plate. There, the portion was just ok. Excellent service and when I was there, the waitress behind the counter sang a song. It wasnt perfect but it was fun to hear them. The waitresses love their job.
I have family that had went to Hynes. First time they said was good, second time they said it was terrible. I decided to go and see for myself. I have to agree with terrible. I had an awful breakfast sandwich, which ironically I believe was a new menu item. It was so dry and gross. The prices for breakfast items were so high as well, I couldnt believe it! Charging THAT much for food and having the old and run down atmosphere of this restaurant doesnt quite add up!? Its a diner at best. Should be diner prices. Ridiculous. The only good thing was my waitress. She was quite friendly, but made me wait a long time after I said I wasnt quite ready to order after she initially came to the table. I cant say Ill be returning to this establishment. Missed the mark for me.
Damn good food and the staff are even better! Thanks to everybody there but special thanks to Sharon..you make that great place much more funnier and enjoyable! Great strawberry short cake!
(forgive me for the steak being eaten a bit in the photo i was hungry) i like this place! every now and then i come here to get one of their to-go meals, they are both affordable and delicious. this time i got to come here to dine in for breakfast. the waitress that greeted me and my ma was nice, seemed to be in a bit of a hurry but i dont blame her. food service is a tough job. she was as welcoming and cheerful she could be, though! i was also NOT expecting that id get an entire (small) teapot for breakfast, but it warmed me up well. ill be honest that i was hesitant to come have breakfast here since the prices for it are a bit high. i usually cant afford stuff like this but i did come anyway and boy they did not disappoint at the size of the dish ive been eyeing on. its quite hefty, and it comes with two slices of toast! the steak and eggs were cooked to my request, medium-rare and scrambled. it is nothing fancy and i appreciate that, its nice to enjoy simplicity every once in a while. the food is plain but hey, you get to season it with as much salt and pepper you need. the potatoes (and extra onions) were delicious. surprisingly, the steak goes super well with some cranberry sauce and ketchup (that didnt come with the dish, its there because i was curious if it worked together). the atmosphere in the restaurant is quite homely and warm, old-fashioned but honestly i like old-fashioned lmao. reminds me of what i grew up with. really want to come again during dinnertime some day, the options were more plentiful and diverse. Dietary restrictions: it Is your average joe canadian restaurant, so if you cant eat pork for whatever reason, i dont reccomend to come during breakfast (unless you want the steak and eggs) Parking: its right outside the place, around at the sides of the restaurant. Wheelchair accessibility: even though it has a ramp, you can pretty much say goodbye to an accessible door into the restaurant. so far i have not noticed a door opening button for wheelchair users, and the entrance is a very narrow two-doorway one. bring someone or two to come with you if this is a problem for you.
This is the best for great food, service and price, could eat there every day! I think some people might. Had the lobster roll so fresh and just delicious.
Great customer service by Stephanie and Debbie. Keep up the great work
My chowder was disappointing to say the least. Cream, potatoes, lobster...not a carrot, onion or piece of celery was used to impart any kind or flavour. Im sure everything was cooked separately and put together just prior to service. I hoped by the other reviews that this would be a hidden gem...it wasnt.
Very tasty food. Colorful atmosphere. Polite staff. Clean inside. The dishes are always fresh and tasty. I highly recommend the breakfasts. A great place for dinner as a couple or with family or friends. Parking is nearby and there are always free spaces. Great restaurant.
A very old, rustic but slightly charming restaurant. Food was quite good. Quickly served. Waitstaff very attentive friendly and engaging.
Food could be cooked a little bit longer. And restaurant needs major updates on the inside.
Always a great experience and wheelchair accommodating. Wheelchair accessibility: Door is a bit tricky but the staff always help. Food : 5/5 |
This is a classic small town dinner. Locals have been going to for years type place.
Exceptional food, waitresses. Always make you feel welcome. Parking: The parking lot is small. You can park on the side of the road, on the side street Parking space Somewhat difficult to find parking Parking options
Cute little Diner! Always a good time when I come here!
Its a quaint place for a small supper
Excellent service and delicious food
We were from out of town and read the reviews and had to try it. It s true! Great service, staff is friendly ( genuinely) food was like good home cook meals..
Love this place . Kid-friendliness: Great place for family Wheelchair accessibility: Yes
Enjoyed our meal and staff. AAA classy
I recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great meal experience. They are very accomadating and very polite staff. This is definitely a great restaurant.
I have gone here for probably 60 years. My Mom and I lived on Dominion and North Street when I was younger. So many memories.
Great service, Great food
One of those locals places that actually has good food, a varied menu, great service and good prices. No wonder they have been around so long.
My wife and I always find a way to have at least one meal at Hynes any time we are in Moncton. To be honest Im not entirely sure why we enjoy this greasy spoon restaurant so much. It does the basics very well. Homey meals with good sized portions. Friendly staff and affordable prices.
This restaurant is our go-to every time we visit Moncton. Its a step into another era in a great way - home style food with a 1950s diner atmosphere and helpful servers. Yesterday I felt like I had stepped into a Christmas movie with the old-time decorations up. Also, the hot turkey sandwiches, and yes, Ill say it, the liver and onions, are to die for!
