G/F, 102 Lai Chi Kok Rd, Mong Kok, Hong Kong
We went because of a recommendation and many Cantonese stars recommending it. We queued for 10-20mins. Shared a table with others. My Cantonese is very basic as we grew up in Europe, and we didn’t know how the restaurant ‘works’, some workers asked something but we didn’t understand and they started complaining to other people, which was uncalled for and kind of uncomfortable. Apparently soup and drinks are included when you order a steak. We had one Borscht and one cream soup. Borscht was on the sweeter side, cream soup was tastless. The steak was fine, we asked medium but if was more 90% cooked, yet the meat was still soft because of Cantonese/Asian tenderization processes.
Retaurant with very nostalgic decor serving up classic old-school western cuisine. I got the sirloin steak, and my set came with borscht soup, a bun, and coffee. The steak was thick, and cooked medium rare. One thing about the steaks here is that they all go through thorough velveting (which is true for most steaks/sliced meats in the region), so regardless of the doneness you have opted for, they will all come extremely tender without much resistance since the fibres have all been relaxed greatly. In otherwords, there is an extreme artificial tenderness to the meat, which I think might not appeal to those trying it for the first time. Nonetheless, it is what it is. The steaks are also served with a brown sauce/black pepper sauce, and a pile of garlic enough to vaporize edward cullen in a split second. The borsch was alright. The restaurant is popular among locals, and there was about 6 groups of people waiting in line outside when I went for dinner. The service here is typical HK. Overall, a visit here would be interesting to those who have never had velveted steaks before. In particular, westerners. P.s. The texture of velveted steak is not for everyone, and this method of preparation can be extremely polarizing for the uninitiated.
Everytime I pass by this place there’re always a crowd queuing for tables. And we promised ourselves that we must try it someday! Arrived around 7:45pm and got to sit down by 8:10pm — it’s not a long wait! We ordered two sets of steak, the fillet one and the scottish steak one, and both are $140 with very good quality!! The portion is sufficient despite having not much side dish. The soup is nothing special but just what you would expect for a traditional hk style steak lab (港式扒房). The atmosphere is very good~ will definitely come again when i crave for good, affordable steak!
I give five star because of husband , he bring me here because always pass when hi go to work in the morning, and today is Hongkong public holiday also queue up long time more then 10 minutes 20 minutes but it worth and staff have service old man 👴 👍🏻
A queue outside is a good sign. Took a ticket and waited patiently to be called. Once inside the decor reminded me of the old 90s style steakhouse, nothing I can really describe accurately. We ordered the set lunch menu for which we both had sirloin steak on a bed of spaghetti. A highly unusual combination but apparently this was pretty normal for HK. I enjoyed it, very generous portions and guaranteed that you will be full. Oh and you get a cream soup and bread. Yummy!
🥩 Growing up middle-class in the 1980s in Malaysia 🇲🇾, eating steaks was somewhat a fancy “special occasions only” luxury such as birthdays. And the best “steak restaurants” back in the day such as “Coliseum” or “The Ship” were manned by Hainanese chefs who used to cook for the British, and had evolved a more local palate pleasing “soy-western” (as they would call it in Hong Kong 🇭🇰) fusion cuisine… 🍽️ To satisfy my craving for such nostalgic flavours in 🇭🇰, the go-to spot for an old fashioned Sizzling Sirloin Steak must be the Golden Phoenix Restaurant.. operating for over 40 years since 1969, there are now a few branches across the territory but the main original shop in Prince Edward really takes you back in time. Your “set meal” start with a choice of either a cream or a minestrone soup accompanied with bread and butter.. and then the main event of a piece of well marinated and tenderised piece of (non-expensive non-grade cut) beef is served on a hot iron skillet - which sizzles as soon as the choice of garlic or black pepper gravy is poured all over it. You’re really here for the nostalgic flavour of this heavenly sizzling gravy though, and not the taste of the beef itself! It’s like a time machine of taste, coating every piece of meat or potato chip that you put into your mouth! 😍
The red soup is yum! Freshly baked bun so soft! I ordered beef fillet set! Highly recommended but not during peak hour of course.
When I was a kid, my grannies took me to Golden Phoenix Restaurant on a special occasion. I still remember the exciting moment when they poured the sauce on the iron plate. Today I revisited this Hong Kong style steakhouse with my family, and the good old memories came flooding back. Efficient service as always. Right after we got seated, the staff asked "Red or white soup?" My choice is always red. Appetizing borscht with lots of veggies. Sprinkled white pepper on top to make it even more tasty. Dipping the warm bun into the soup - another recommended way to enjoy! I knew exactly what to order without looking at the menu - tenderloin on iron plate. I requested medium with more browning on the surface. As soon as the steak was served, we got to pick garlic or black pepper sauce. Both savory but wouldn't overwhelm the original flavor of the beef. Be sure to hold your napkin as the staff mount the sauce on the sizzling plate! The thick piece of meat was pinkish in the middle. Very tender but still tasted meaty, not soda tenderized at all. The chopped garlic was another highlight. Needed a bit of refreshment after the meat feast so I ordered iced lemon tea as the meal drink. This is an authentic Hong Kong style meal that no Western steakhouse could beat. Spending less than $150 for a decent steak at a restaurant with over 1/2 century history is totally worth the money.
Old enough, it has the atmosphere of a child
Low food for lunch!
This is an honest review, the restaurant is nostalgic, but its really hard to believe that I had such delicious food. The cream chicken soup was the perfect example of prepared food. It was watery and flavorless, with not even a sliver of celery hidden in it, and only one or two pieces of chicken and crab sticks. It felt richer than even Master Kongs instant noodle side dishes. As for the pork chop, it is really amazing. It is heavily seasoned with loose meat powder and the black pepper sauce has no trace of the black pepper flavor, and there is no juice. The air in the restaurant is simply fumigated. Food is mostly served on an iron plate. When the sauce is put in, as soon as the sauce touches the iron plate, the oily fumes hit your face and hit your lungs. The whole environment is enveloped in oily smoke. Every employee is wearing a mask, as if to resist the gray smoke floating in the air that is visible to the naked eye. I am eating an undercooked, juicy pork chop and inhaling an amount of oil smoke that I have not had the chance to smoke in a whole year. These few words can describe my experience as miserable. What an unforgettable dining experience that left a lasting impression on my taste buds and respiratory tract! If you have asthma, dont eat at this restaurant unless you want to experience instant medical care.
delicious
It has a long history and still tastes the same as before.
Good food, steak fillet was very tender. Very tight spaces Food
I haven t been to an old restaurant in many years. The food has improved and the waiters are attentive and polite! Even the lights are bright! Its a pity that I cant get back the feelings I had before!
The meat was super salty and all the pork floss powder was used to make it too soupy. The service quality was very poor. I sat on a table with 3 people serving 4 people and couldnt even eat enough for 30 minutes. One of them didnt finish eating and went to the restroom. Then there was another person. The clerk with swollen hair and glasses immediately rushed to tell me that there was a customer asking me to get up, but my husband was very hungry at the time, and he had told him many times that we were one of three people who just went to the restroom, but the clerk I ignored it and arranged for two guests to sit down. At that time, there were 6 people sitting on the isolation table and only two of them were seated. Why not arrange for two guests to sit down next to it? I immediately reported it to the store manager, but the store manager said that he didn t remember that there were three of us. What reason could there be for having a meal and a full cup of drinks there, even if there was someone else sitting there? I have told him 4 times that one of them went to the bathroom, but he didn t know I will never help him again
Food quality is top notch and has a very nostalgic flavor
Occasionally the steak was overcooked, but other than the wait, everything else was good.
Black pepper beef fillet super good
Prince Golden Phoenix Restaurant is a typical Hong Kong restaurant. The lunch set menu has a variety of flavors, all of which include meal kits, borscht soup, cream soup and catering. The price ranges from $46-$194. The overall food quality is high and the large items are well worth it. However, due to limited seating, you have to wait for at least 15-30 minutes. The door is located on the sidewalk, so waiting for a table is inconvenient!
Little restaurant but run by experienced former hotel steak house chef. Well known in the district for various steak options.
The quality of the main store is a little better than other branches!
Sirloin steak is always so tender when eaten
The quality of the beef tenderloin and steak is very good, and the price/performance ratio is very high. The service is also very good. The waiters are friendly and professional. When I think of Hong Kong-style Western food, I will think of this place. There is nothing to lose.
Buy a rare and old-style steak house Food feelings, but without losing Remember to add garlic
The service attitude is bad and the waiters have a very bad attitude towards guests. I will not come back again next time! Bad review!
Very poor service attitude, will not patronize again!
Its delicious and delicious. The waiters are very patient. I saw two rude customers and they didnt have any rude attitude.
Good
Food
The feeling of going back to the past in a time machine
Taste is very good. Price is compatible. The beef quality is good. Food
There were constant sounds of sizzling sauce falling onto the iron plate, the smoke was filling the air, the atmosphere was great, and the food was being eaten in large pieces.
It will feel like they are constantly chasing you away. Although the steakhouse is famous and the food is good, the seats are cramped.
High cost performance,
very good
nostalgic memories
The price is not included and it is not worth the food. The environment is crowded, the air is not circulated and there is no air-conditioning. The waiting time is average. I will definitely eat at the main store next time because the place is too small
The place is small and narrow, the food is average, the food is average
The taste of western food with soy sauce is average, the price is acceptable, and the male Taiwanese attitude is bad. The environment is cramped.
Food is absolutely awful. Cheap meat. Not worth to go
A very homemade flavor highly recommended. Fast service.
I originally called it a piece of ordinary sirloin, but I asked my uncle to point it out. It is not as tough as an Angus meat piece. I know it is a thin grilled piece. If it is not hot enough, the most worth it is a 200 mosquito piece.
Good food, but poor environment, they will kick you out immediately after eating
The beef tenderloin was delicious, especially the French fries soaked in black pepper sauce. However, I was seated at a prime time and the waiter was very busy. I had to catch him passing by before I could get my drink.
The steak is pan-fried until the crispy noodles are almost cooked. There are some seats and some grilled food in the restaurant.
The clerk is very patient and the food is delicious,
From $60 to $140, almost 30 years ago, it still has this nostalgic flavor, full of smoke, overflowing with the aroma of black pepper and garlic, plus the sound of chopping on the iron plate, the food is the most delicious in the store. . Beef tenderloin meal with 50% black pepper sauce, right! There are also two brothers who are still here - Lao Chenzi, who are really kind to me.
The attitude is extremely bad, there is no service at all, and I get angry with customers. I even have to speak ill of customers in front of my colleagues, and I feel offended! Highly not recommended
When I returned to Hong Kong to visit relatives, I reminisced about the taste of my childhood. It was called left-beef tenderloin with T-bone, red soup and lots of garlic. The marinated pork steak certainly doesnt taste as good as the expensive braised meat and oily flavor nowadays, but it is an old-style soy sauce Western food and I think it has a better atmosphere.
Adding minced garlic is really delicious!
Too much soda powder to marinate the meat . The smell is too strong . It tastes like meat
The food was nice and worth the try! Can see a lot of people come here as a form of comfort food
A very friendly and atmospheric local steakhouse! The steak is thick and chunky, and it tastes delicious, especially the butter bread.
A nostalgic Western steakhouse with attentive service. The price is reasonable and the steak is delicious. The borscht is so fragrant and sweet, very delicious, and the black pepper is not too spicy. The bread is soft and soft, and when dipped in butter and soup, its a perfect match. You can enjoy the aroma of butter and the sweetness of borscht. Basically all the food is very satisfying and memorable. It is recommended that everyone try it. You will be addicted after eating it once. You can go crazy again.
The food is delicious, the steak is meaty, the seats are a bit small Eat quickly and leave
Ping Liangzheng Kid-friendliness: Not suitable for babies
Nostalgic steak restaurant good bargain price, tucked away near Prince Edward MTR
Dietary restrictions: 5 Food
Why dont 50 mosquitoes have a full meal of chicken steak spaghetti, borscht, butter and frozen lemon tea?
Nostalgic restaurant
Three words...Ping, pretty, upright
Good value
Since food is a memory, it must be a lot more expensive. However, it is rare to buy something like this from an old store. The food is both steak and borscht.
Speaking of passing by Prince Jinfeng, there were not many people waiting for a table, and we got a seat in about ten minutes. It happened to be the Lantern Festival, so I celebrated with my lover and ordered beef tenderloin and roasted New Year steak. Everything else was normal. The soup and bread are both hot enough, and the iron plate is generous. There are two beef tenderloins, thick and crispy and overcooked. There are four roasted lamb chops stacked high, with a spicy and mutton flavor, so crispy. , full of oily aroma, plus garlic juice. In fact, it is best to eat fresh meat with roast sauce or onion juice. The garlic has not been fried, so the garlic flavor is not enough, but it is acceptable. If you cook it yourself, the effect will be more fragrant. , but eating outside is the best option. Im looking for three hundred yuan
Its such a humane restaurant. I know it will be a bit stressful with children but they all want to eat. The waiters are friendly.
The taste is not lost, and the food seems to be more and more finely divided. But it does have the flavor of an old-style Hong Kong steakhouse.
The price is reasonable. In todays Hong Kong, it should not only be reasonable but also affordable! It tastes good and the staff is polite The restaurant is full of nostalgic flavor. If you have never been there, you must go!
The restaurant is more than half a century old, the taste is more than half a century old, and the waiters are all more than half a century old. There is nothing picky about it. I appreciate their persistence. It reminds me of my childhood. I hope to eat their Christmas dinner next year
Food maintains standard, borscht is bad
It can still maintain the same level of production for many years, and it is cheap and good. No wonder there is still a wait for a table, and it is very cost-effective.
Best of Hong Kong-style steakhouse. Rowdy. Authentic. Fun. Rustic. No-frill. Great steaks.
The food tastes good, but the seating is a bit cramped
Delicious beef tenderloin meal
delicious
Common peoples fast food steak tastes OK and has to queue up
It is no longer a civilian steakhouse, but it is still the number one steakhouse of this type. Dietary restrictions: They mainly serve grilled meals and the prices are acceptable.
Food
The decoration is not good, but it is expected to be beautiful. The beef tenderloin meal is delicious.
Food average. Staff service really good. The restaurant is small. So you need to queue
Lunch is cheap and includes staple food, rice, soup, bread, and drinks.
The space is a bit cramped, but the food is about emotion. The food is good, the price cannot be said to be cheap, the waiters are diligent and polite, and the customers around are quite happy to eat.
Indoor oil smoke is relatively large
So so
Ordered the nobel steak that cost $208. It was more tender and juicier than most $250+ steaks I ate in other western restaurants. One of the best Ive had for around $200. The staff was very kind and attentive, so nothing to complain. The only problem is that the seats were very crowded, but thats not a reasonable thing to complain about. Will come again with my friends.
Shi Niuzhen
The sizzling pork chop and chicken chop meal is very delicious! But be patient while waiting for a table!
Good taste and good food
Feel nostalgic
Place and seats are too narrow
resist food
Good
Beef quality not as good as description by media
Average atmosphere but good steak
There are already a lot of people queuing up at 6:30. The scallops are delicious, and the portion of meat with the scallops is smaller, which is suitable for ladies. The T-bone is more sinewy, and the chicken chop is delicious.
Eat well! !
The old-style restaurant feels like a throwback to the old days.
No one is allowed to enter without gathering people. Eat within a limited time. Eating so much is stressful.
Asian style steak house. Large portion. Recommend to add extra garlic. Expect to Q up for table at peak houses. Fairly well price. Would definitely come back again.
Done
There are a lot of customers, and sometimes you have to queue up. The food is large enough and the price is reasonable, but I always feel that the taste is worse than before.
The set lunch includes soup, filling, chicken steak with teriyaki sauce, potatoes and vegetables, and a cup of food at a reasonable price!
Very good food
Expensive, expensive, expensive It s very important, so say it three times. It s at the IQ tax level, and it s worth having to stay in Hong Kong.
Borscht is too spicy The grasp of the percentages is not strong enough Although it s not my cup of tea, the iron plate is so hot that the beef tastes burnt. Delicious meal kits Service attitude is relatively good Charges are normal
There is a fat girl at the door who has a bad attitude, everything else is normal
The evaluation of the Cheung Sha Wan branch is that there is a very obvious gap in food quality compared to the original store or the main store in Sham Shui Po, and the service is really inadequate. For example, when the meal package was served, the butter knife was not brought along with it. It is only served when the guest asks for it. If you want it medium rare, it should be 70% cooked. I will never come to this store again, and anyone who is interested please be careful.
Nice atmosphere, reasonable price
The level has dropped a bit
Great food Great service!
The food can be said to be of high quality and low price, the waiters are very friendly, and the environment is also good
Very good taste and service
Good, good, good.
good food
Pretty and straight
Things are different now. In the past, prices were famous. Now compare the prices, the prices are close, The T-bone steak meal was terrible! No need to wait for a table to eat, I will go to other restaurants!
The decoration is older and maintains the appearance of the old restaurant. All meals maintain the old taste
Taiwan +1, on 9, I won t go again After two months, go for lunch again On November/23rd, I went to challenge again I felt there were so many waiters Although the lunch price is average, the food is so-so I can tell you a lot about the attitude of the waiter, it s so warm.
Food quality guaranteed
Classic Hong Kong iron plate meal, the food quality is good, the price is average according to the current price level, because the restaurant is small, so you have to queue up to enter the restaurant
The risotto turned into baked rice and the rice was still frozen
From hong konger living in canada, you cannot get anymore hong kong than this.
This is a Chinese-style Western restaurant that has been in operation for many years. The decoration and lighting are nostalgic and have the feelings of Hong Kong in the past. There are not many restaurants like this left in Hong Kong, and we must cherish it. The quality of the food is not comparable to fast food.
