430 Boulevard Sir Wilfrid Laurier, Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Quebec J3H 6M5, Canada
All-day breakfast eatery with whimsical country decor & kids’ meals including bear-shaped pancakes.
My husband and I love this place. Great food: so many original eggs benedict options!!! Fast and great service: we got our plates under 10 minutes, the staff is attentive. Ambiance is calm and clean: I don’t feel overwhelmed by the amount of noise unlike in other restaurants.
Comprehensive menu. Good quality food. Very reasonably priced.
First of all, congratulations to the boss for losing another customer. A new store opened nearby. We still chose to go to the store we used to like to enjoy our happy family time. I didn't expect that I felt under siege for the first time. In summary, if you want to be treated well and enjoy the food, you must obey, wait patiently and tip more. I just want to know where my money is spent. What's wrong? I won't go there again. The older male waiter, please roll your eyes at your customers after you figure out the situation. Although your service made me feel contemptuous and impatient, I still gave a 15% tip because it was just politeness!
Such a nice restaurant in mont st hilaire. The patio has a bit of a view of the mountain and inside is very nicely decorated like an apple farm. The food is good, they have the option of getting a baguette instead of regular bread which is nice. The rostis are one of my favorite things to take.
Bon déjeuners gourmand , Francis et Carole sont supers
Great vegan breakfast options, and tons of other breakfast options for the whole family. Friendly service and adorable setup. Place specifically for kids to play away from eating area which is a nice touch. They use JustEgg for vegan dishes, delicious. Definitely check this place out!
We decided to have lunch at Resto La Grand-Mère Poule after hearing many good things. We were not disappointed. The food was delicious and the service was impeccable! Thanks to our lovely waitress "Jen" for being so friendly and attentive. The eggs Benedict are a definite must have! We will pass the word around and definitely come back!
Not disappointed. I’m not a big fan of breakfast, but it was a special occasion and we all really enjoyed it.
-The waiters forget our orders. -The portions suck. -The waiters never came to ask us if everything was okay.
Hi, Im Gabriel Dumonts server and he stank so bad I didnt want to go near the table. Horrible experience for me, the server. And the mother smelled like pie.
Good lunch restaurant, pleasant atmosphere, very good service every time. Each dish tried was good every time.
Very good service from Carole. Good variety of dishes. Not too expensive.
Warm place We were well received The dish was delicious
The restaurant is very well decorated, the employees are pleasant and the food meets the expectations I had. In short, a great place for a family outing. Take into consideration that it remains busy and therefore relatively noisy (at least when I was there)
Excellent !!!
These really beautiful plates served Lots of choice. I adore
Very good lunch restaurant with lots of extravagant and healthy choices. Everything is good and has been for a long time.
This restaurant is only worth one star. The food was tasteless and there was almost nothing on the plates. One of us had a four cheese omelette. The omelette was rather small and the cheese was almost non-existent as well as 3 small pieces of fruit compared to the fruit plate that was supposed to accompany this meal. Another of us had a Breton crepe with sweet apples... It was large pieces of apples inside the crepe and he had to eat the apples apart from the crepe given the size of them. For my part, it was a wrap and I can guarantee you that it was tasteless and really without love . A wrap at a fast food restaurant is 100 times better and it was just eggs and half a tomato with nothing extra inside. To make matters worse, one of the two servers really didnt want to work this morning, I think. No smile, complete lack of courtesy and when I asked to take my meal to force me to eat it later, he actually threw the box at me. Every time he spoke to us, he didnt wait for the answer that he had already left. Literally bad service. I really dont recommend this restaurant. One thing is certain, it was the first and last time guaranteed for the three of us to eat there. Even though it was Labor Day, that s no reason to butcher customer experiences.
New owners not strong! Bad reception Cut portions Poor knowledge of French. Purge of employees for the benefit of family members! To avoid ++++ Please encourage our local restaurateurs
We have adored. The employees are welcoming. The food is very good. Go for it
Good choice on the menu.
Table and benches
Very good, beautiful place and very well lit.
Best lunch in the world, excellent service and wow roesti
I recently had the pleasure of brunching at La Grand-Mère Poule restaurant in Mont Saint-Hilaire, and it was simply excellent! The dishes were not only delicious but also beautifully presented. The fresh fruit, waffles, and perfectly cooked poached eggs made the meal unforgettable. The service was also impeccable, with attentive and friendly staff who made the experience even more enjoyable. The restaurants atmosphere is friendly and perfect for a brunch with family or friends. I highly recommend La Grand-Mère Poule to anyone looking for a delicious meal in a welcoming setting. This is a place I would definitely return to!
Always good, great service
Im not one to leave negative comments, in fact this is my first in years. Service: upon our arrival we arrived with our 2 year old twins. We were told where the boosters were and to help ourselves. The waiter forgot to serve me my coffee. No spread was provided and my partner had French toast. Not even syrup. The servers were cold. We didnt feel welcome at all. And we even seemed to bother them. Childrens playroom: we specifically went to this restaurant which claims to be family-friendly, but is not at all. I could hear two servers making derogatory comments about our children who were playing in the room. My partner was with them and watching them. Atmosphere: the music is pleasant and the decor is beautiful, but the temperature is way too cold inside. I noticed a lot of people keeping their coats inside. The food is good, but for the price and the service, we would never think of going back. In short, unless you want to be judged, I dont advise parents of young children to go!
Thanks for the vegan options, it was very good! :) Vegetarian options: Vegan menu available on request with 5 beautiful complete options. Dietary restrictions: Vegan, gluten-free, vegetable milk offered. Kid-friendliness: Yes, there is even a games room.
My husband and I went this afternoon. I planned to bring a coat because last time it was very cold inside. It hasnt gotten better. The air conditioning is way too cold! Several had kept their coats on. I talked to the waiter about it and he told me that for the staff it was good. Too bad for the customers! We wont be going back there in the summer.
Our favorite lunch restaurant! It s a warm and family-friendly place. The Bénédictines are wonderful and it s a joy to go there with our daughter since they have a playroom and pay little attention to the children with fruit to keep them waiting. I love Grandma Hen!
Dietary restrictions: Très bon restaurant pour les coeliaques, le personnel est très au fait de la maladie et de la contamination croisée. Je recommande!!
Food
Pleasantly surprised to know that the restaurant now offers a vegan menu. Its wonderful! I often have difficulty finding what to eat in lunch restaurants and their offering is good, the atmosphere endearing. Its my go-to.
Always well served, good service and no pushing to leave and very well equipped for children.
Very good lunch! I loved it!
Soggy pancake, really not good food.
Succulent
Take the trouble to ask (in advance) if reservations are taken... Being told no. Ask again the day before (just in case) and be told that yes, they were taking reservations, but being the day before, its full. Great. It makes me want...
Excellent place to eat with family
This was a first in a restaurant specializing in lunch. Take note that if you eat pancakes and French toast, do you expect to be offered to pay $2.00 more to have access to maple syrup otherwise it will be pole syrup In addition, be careful at $14.00 for a plate of French toast, 2 small slices of bread in a triangle with 3 pieces of unripe fruit, its exploitation
Family restaurant to have a good lunch
Good service and varied menu including a vegan one
Plates too generous. Lots of waste
A beautiful place Superb restaurant, enchanting decor, fast service, excellent portion! In short, a great discovery, I recommend!
Really nice place with kids
Very good... The ham is excellent
Best service, the waiters are nice and quick service hot plate just perfect and delicious
Best service and good stuffs and delicious
The La Grand-Mère Poule restaurant in Mont-Saint-Hilaire is a real treat for anyone looking for a nice place to eat. As soon as you enter, you feel welcomed, with a warm atmosphere that makes you want to settle in and have a good time. The service is great: the servers are smiling and attentive, which makes the experience even more pleasant. And let s talk about the dishes! They are generous, well served and truly delicious. Whether for a gourmet breakfast or a friendly lunch, there is something for everyone with options for everyone, it is the ideal place for those looking for a good meal, friendly service and a warm atmosphere. A great address to discover!
Great place. A big plus is the little play area for kids, definitely a reason to go. Food is good but small portions.
Very good meal, very nice dining room + small area reserved for children with toys. Vegetarian options: You have choices for you vegetarian Dietary restrictions: Can you tell if you have allergies? Parking: Large parking lot Kid-friendliness: Games
I love this restaurant. Its so delicious and warm.
Friendly and efficient waitresses. Menu takes into account dietary restrictions. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free Parking: Additional parking at the rear Kid-friendliness: Childrens menu
WOW for cooking, ham on the bone what a great idea. During my visit the service was a little long but there was a lot of traffic
Excellent restaurant. Fresh and quality products. Impeccable service. I recommend it to you.
Very good service, quite fast. Lacking a little spice, but generally very good! Good atmosphere
Too expensive for whats on the plate.
Great lunch and quick service for a Sunday!
A good lunch with a very extensive menu. To discover! Parking: See on the site Wheelchair accessibility: See on the site
I am an avid breakfast eater and we found ourselves all the way out here from an hour away and decided to try it. I was not disappointed and loved the little crust they got on the pancake. Was a texture I have never tried before.
Nice restaurant, nice atmosphere, nice menu, but I was disappointed with the plate. Not much quantity for the price, extra bacon at $4 for 2 slices, the small smoothie for children is expensive too. I shared my plate with my baby, so I asked for 1 of my eggs turned and the other broken (for baby), we refused to cook my 2 eggs differently. Rather long service, although pleasant.
Much too expensive for the quality of the plates. There are no more rostis. They serve breakfast potatoes cooked in oil. The presentation and quality is no longer up to par. Very very disappointing
Superb place, very nice menu, I love the place.
We really liked going there with friends, but its a shame, the quality is no longer there... The Benedictine sauce is brownish and stiff. Were going to go back to the Café du Vieux Beloeil, its cooler.
Kid-friendliness: Salle de jeu Food
Best restaurant for lunch Kid-friendliness: There is a well-stocked games room for little ones
Excellent, very successful and delicious menu
Always excellent service, super family atmosphere. I havent been back since the pandemic. The menu has evolved and is still very simple but with an imposing choice! Rosties are excellent. I recommend!
Service a little long but good brunch place. The atmosphere is still cool
Very disappointing. It was good but disappointing for $20 (one of the most expensive Florentine plates); two eggs, 3 bites of rosti potatoes, four small sprigs of asparagus, 2 and a half slices of sweet apple and fruit rinds. We wont come back again. Sorry.
Lunch and service were good.
Very good choice and gluten-free. Only one big downside: the service... the girl had no manners and was completely disinterested
Great lunches, everything was good and we really appreciated that there were plenty of benches. We ll definitely go back for the diverse menu!
Vegetarian options: Plusieurs options végétariennes intéressantes et variées. Dietary restrictions: Options sans gluten Kid-friendliness: Belle petite salle de jeu où les enfants peuvent jouer sans parler du menu pour enfants!
Expatriated in the Eastern Townships, I returned there with my mother this Friday after almost a decade: I had the impression of taking a leap in time! The owner is always so friendly, and the quality is still there! I had an emotion when I ate my first bite of Florentine Bénédictines just like I remembered! Thank you thank you thank you!!! Vegetarian options: Lots of meatless dishes Dietary restrictions: Gluten-free options Kid-friendliness: Very pretty little playroom! Wheelchair accessibility: No stairs
Best breakfast we have had in a long time!
Very accommodating with young children, always excellent meals, especially the röstis!
Its a long time, I had to wait 1 hour for my lunch. I had to eat apple jelly to wait because I was too hungry.
Good restaurant, good service and good food. Was missing a little something to make the experience better than good.
We had lunch there at 1 p.m. and the service was excellent, fast! We were on the terrace which is under a canvas to protect from the sun (other places are completely in the sun). The menu is simple with several lunch options! The food was good but nothing innovative or exceptional when comparing the same plate in a similar restaurant. The price is slightly higher than other popular chains but its Saint-Hilaire so thats to be expected. I recommend Vegetarian options: There are vegetarian options Parking: The parking lot can be very full during rush hour. We had difficulty parking. Wheelchair accessibility: Easily accessible with sidewalk and parking
Great service. Excellent food. To do again.
Cute and charming place. Traditional options for lunch in a nice setting.
Beautiful terrace, great interior decor. So many lunch choices. Delicious and a change from the others. There is a play area for children. Their specialty is ham on the bone, homemade jam, rösti and hot apples. Its not written on the menu but on the wall there are alcoholic beverages such as Bayleys coffee and Mimosa. On the other hand, I find that the portions on the plates are small, both for the lunch potatoes and the fruit. The childrens menu could be improved. My son did not like or eat the grilled cheese. Price-wise, they are more expensive than their competitors and have smaller plates. The service is always long even for coffee. Vegetarian options: Written on the menu Dietary restrictions: Written on the menu Parking: Front or side of the restaurant Kid-friendliness: Play area
Very nice choice of gluten-free!
We asked for milk at least 4 times and coffee. Which we ultimately didnt get. Plate missing the ham almost finished when we finally got the ham. The icing on the sundae no toilet paper in the toilets. It s been a long time since we last went, it s going to be a while yet ..
Very nice place, fast service and delicious meal! The tables are a little sticky for my taste but for the rest its great!!
Always excellent, we are all fans around me. Yesterday at noon I chose the blue hen (with blueberry pancakes) $19 and my mother the salmon/cream cheese bagel. Everything was hot on my plate, not lukewarm, Everything was delicious.
Very expensive small plate not up to par but waiting after 3 years it hasnt changed
Nice decor, good atmosphere, but thats it. The prices are very high, $20 for two eggs, ham, toast, potatoes, fruit. The service was horrible, I was refused a seat because I was alone even though the restaurant was not full, no smile from the waitress, I was never asked if my meal was good and if I needed condiments. Half-buttered toast, barely cooked eggs, lukewarm potatoes, hot fruit. In short, if you decide to charge $20 for a simple lunch, the quality of service and food should be good. Another point, I was there to work with my laptop and I was quickly asked how long I planned to stay. Anyway, I left as soon as I finished eating. I waited for my bill for 10 minutes. Good luck with other customers.
Good place and friendly staff
First experience with my 2 daughters, my oldest now living in the region. Short waiting time despite the queue, excellent service and welcome, excellent food and good quantity!
Hollandaise sauce is a real delight!
Great brunch spot. Usually fairly busy but worth it. Good and varied menu.
Food was fantastic. Great customer service!
Excellent
This is where we have lunch before going to the Strom Spa every time.
It s very good
Excellent
Best breakfast Ive had in a really long time ... omg
Lovely people and great food. I feel like home. It is clean, cozy, great atmosphere. The food is always fantastic, a lot of options and good prices.
Im not even exaggerating when I say its delicious. I really recommend. Beautiful, full and tasty plates. Really reasonable price and good service. The place is really beautiful, it s well decorated. I really recommend.
Delicious omelet
We arrive as a family at 2:31 p.m. The person at reception informs us that the kitchen has just closed within a minute . Unacceptable. If the kitchen closes at 2:30 p.m., it would be good to display that the restaurant closes at 2:30 p.m. (and not 3 p.m. on Google).
Good service
We are informed that the restaurant closes at 2 p.m., it is 1:15 p.m. The young man who greets us tells us that there is no problem, we just wont be able to talk much after lunch. We sit down, and the person with me wants to be served quickly so that we have time to eat. The waitress is furious and raises her voice, saying that we will be served when she has time! So it s the young man who received us who takes our order. When she brings our plates, I try to lighten the atmosphere and tell her there are a lot of people today she starts again, raising her voice again! This is why you have to be patient, with your eyes popping out of your sockets! Rest assured this was my first and last visit to this restaurant! And I will spread the message! Kid-friendliness: Play area for children
Very varied menu, excellent service, the ham is excellent as well as the baked beans. The only downside is the fried potatoes at lunch, you can ask for a replacement . The plate is generous and heated.
Good restaurant but totally overpriced... 2 lunches... $58... its borderline ridiculous to pay that much for average quality lunch plates. My wife received moldy salad with her crepe. The waitress told us that she had more in the bin and that it had been removed...but no exchange of salad, nor any discount. We are far from the management that I already knew of this restaurant. Very disappointing value for money. I dont mind paying for good food in more upscale restaurants but here the prices should be reviewed honestly as the quality does not reflect what you pay.
I really like this restaurant!
Good portion for the price
Back after 7 months to see if the service improves...oh my!! I was accompanying a disabled person with Alzheimers. We arrive at 1:00 p.m. Being greeted stupidly by a young man with sighs of trouble. Jostled by a middle-aged waitress while being told after 10 minutes. that the kitchen closes in 30 minutes and the restaurant in 50 minutes. We left without eating and without fuss, being taunted by the young man who was celebrating our departure. Lousy attitude without any respect towards a lady with a walker. Staff who should not be in contact with customers under any circumstances!! Several months ago; Decent food. Minimal, impersonal and cold service from the mature man. Always ask to get a coffee stove.
Super good service. So cute decor and absolutely delicious food. We will come back, for sure
Excellent
Lack of manpower, according to the server.
Beautiful place, very kind and competent waitress and generous and delicious breakfast!
I hate when the waitress doesnt write my order on a piece of paper..... I ordered 2 eggs turned with bacon and butterfly sausages, white bread and I asked for my potatoes to be burned because anywhere they are afraid to make them well cooked! The waitress even says to me well these are square potatoes here maam. Me: Yes I know I would like to have them cooked very well please... she says ok and leaves... I receive my order... my potatoes!... Pale but pale as if I had spoken through butter... my bread is brown... The bacon and sausages were super good compared to the service I had When the time comes to pay she finally arrives with my bill because it seemed more important to chat with another waitress... She arrives with the machine I tell her Im going to pay cash... she completely ignores me and places the machine on the table, I repeat to her that I will pay in money because clearly she did not hear me.... She tells me you just have to tap on the machine to pay and she leaves....... Phew, it s fun to start your day like that! Its a shame because apart from that it could have been very good and very good! I dont doubt the talent of the cooks at all, but the lady who served me, quite frankly, I have rarely seen be so indifferent to the requests of these customers!
Great service, playroom for children but too expensive.....
Very unique ambiance. Fun decor good service.nice ppl.
I loved the experience the service is good, and what can I say about the food I will definitely go back
I love going to Grandma Hens to eat their vegan options especially their scrambled tofu which is delicious!! But they changed this tofu for a fake egg liquid and that disappointed me a lot, I hope it comes back to the menu before
Nice place, excellent food and very friendly owners.
Roxanne and Noémie = the best waitresses! very good lunch.
Great food and service. The menu isnt what you can find anywhere else.
Magnificent lunch restaurant! Very welcoming staff!
Rosti delicious wt hearty!
Delicious but burning smell coming from the kitchen! There was no longer the dessert we wanted! Good service, the waitresses are friendly.
Ordinary and quite expensive, I go there on occasion. No photos of the suggested menus, we have a surprise each time, because I never have the same thing the next time. Please put the toast on our plate instead of the little baskets not very hygienic.
Quite delicious but very expensive. The price is not marked on the menu. There is the met number.
Great family restaurant for a weekend brunch! Kid-friendliness: Drawing and childrens menu and the staff seems to like children.
Very good customer service!
Excellent place for food and very different. Very family-friendly and courteous place. Vegetarian options: Some recipes are vegetarian. Dietary restrictions: Several recipes are possible without gluten. Parking: Located in front of the restaurant. Kid-friendliness: Yes there is a nice playroom. Children have a free fruit dish. Wheelchair accessibility: No stairs.
Very disappointed, the crepe was cold, the blueberries were too ripe, it had been a long time since I had been there and it will be a long time before I go back, $17 for a crepe not to my taste, its quite expensive to pay .
Beautiful atmosphere, very good meal (eggs benedict + fruit crepe and custard). Quality service, great lunch time with a beautiful view of the mountain and the river.
Service is in major decline! I was a loyal customer mainly for your beautiful menu and gluten-free option .but we will have to find better elsewhere now. The quality of the food is wonderful, the ham on the bone to roll around on the floor but the service is very disappointing! And what about your magnificent terrace which was closed throughout the summer season. The answer that was given to us 3 times this summer... the heat... even though 2 of the times it was only 21 degrees. I am really sad about this situation.
Food is good, the price is pricey and the plate were not very generous.
Very good lunch before our stay at the Mont St-Hilaire spa
Wow!! Everything was excellent, food quality, quantity, service My lunch restaurant!!
Very Good Place for Breakfast
Great food and scenery (Mount St. Hilaire), a must for breakfast... What stood out was the relaxed energy and friendly staff. Parking is more than adequate. Arrive early. It fills up. The menu is large! Lots of French-inspired sweet and rich menu items like crêpes, but a simple American breaky of eggs and bacon is doable. Its a French arena, so knowing the language helps avoid blank, cold stares.
For the first time we went to the restaurantLa Grand-Mère Poule. Excellent service, very good lunch and the quantities are generous. Not for those who dont eat much. I had a plain omelette, served with hot potatoes, it was excellent. To recommend.
Very friendly staff. Beautiful decor. Great for children with the games section and the bowl of fruit served while you consult the menu. However, you should not be in a hurry.
I went on a first date here and was screened out like a pesky fly. The food was memorable however and made up for the rejection. Everything on my plate had been carefully cooked and presented well. Breakfast can be sloppy and a blend of flavors, but the cook knew his trade (apple pancake plate). Prices are reasonable. Staff easy and breezy. This is French territory, I heard not a word of Quebecs foreign tongue. You can adjust accordingly.
Its ok, food is good and service is friendly
I really like rostis
I went there twice and I was disappointed both times, as much by the service and the wait as by the food and the value for money. Very overrated.
Nothing tasted bad, nothing was memorable. Pancakes were under cooked, toasts were cheap supermarket bread. The rest of the food had nothing special, pretty bland and unimaginative. The fresh orange juice was only fresh by temperature, it was clearly bottled, maybe they ran out, we still had to pay the premium price. The waiter seemed moody and barely spoke enough words to take our order and only ever came back for the bill (we got quite thirsty). The place was packed and we waited an hour to be seated. Save yourself good money, in the time it took to wait we could have easily gone to buy all the ingredients and cook them, the result would have been 5 times cheaper and considerably better. Parking: easy free parking on site
Service to the table was a little late, but it was worth to wait a little, loved the « pommes caramélisées »
Pleasant, great discovery. The staff is very nice and gives good service. Nice variety of lunches. Reasonable price. Charming place!
I would have loved to give 5 stars! The food has changed a bit for some people in my family! For me, yes it has been modified a little but for my part it remains excellent! But the service was terrible! It was long but long! And whats more, the waitress subtly told me that the meal was not high enough! (PS: 1. As far as I know, tipping is still optional in Quebec! 2. The tip is supposed to be given according to the current income of the customers which is confidential! 3. The tip is according to the satisfaction of the service received 4. Waiters/waitresses are not supposed to show their dissatisfaction with tips received as they are not obligatory and given according to customer satisfaction!) As for food: Le Bec Sucré and La Poulette Bleue are still there! excellent choices despite some modifications they have undergone! The scrambled eggs are very good! For some, the sunny-side-up eggs are overcooked and the ham on the bone is too lean! The mimosas are very good! And the fruit is really fresh! It s also a shame we no longer hear the chicken crowing when we go to the toilet! It loses its charm! It was one of your trademarks that was humorous! Summary: Food still excellent depending on the dishes despite certain modifications! Terrible service and above all very long!
Fast service, friendly staff, food was good!
Had the eggs Benedict and salmon bagel sandwich, forgot to take photos because we were so hungry..but food was delicious! Highly recommend if you are in the the area. By the way, theres no English menu, only in french..
Very diverse menu and friendly service
Dietary restrictions: Gluten-free options Food
There were no more pancakes! For what?! Is this a lunch restaurant?! Parking: Its almost always full.
It was excellent. Simple, friendly and warm.
Best breakfast restaurant in Saint-Hilaire
For the first time this company exceeded my expectations, best place for lunch
The food is very good. The restaurant is a little expensive for what you eat.
Its good but its expensive for lunch like all the other restaurants specializing in lunch.
