Family-friendly BYOB featuring Afghan dishes like meat kebabs, lamb specialties & lentil soup.
Very nice food, in cozy environment Authentic Afghani food Delicious lamb and fried eggplants
Delicious foods, especially the lamb. Highly recommend to reserve ahead of time as it can get very busy. BYOB
I have no bad things to say about this restaurant. The ambience was super cozy and I felt very welcome. Their value for the table d’hôte is incredible if you want to sample many dishes. Everything we ordered was so so flavourful and well spiced. The lamb was incredibly tender. I highly recommend the ashak dumplings and the pumpkin appetizer. This restaurant is well worth the visit.
Tasty food, not dissimilar from Lebanese in flavour, but portions were rather small. I had lamb and it was super soft, although the sauce was a little spicy, for which I paid a price overnight
We are visiting from Edmonton, AB, and had a wonderful experience. The food was delicious and authentic. Mohammed was excellent and provided us with great recommendations. A must-visit place in Montreal!
We were visiting Montréal for the day and wanted to have dinner somewhere nice. After doing some research on Google, we came across this restaurant that was highly rated (and for good reason). We didn't have a reservation, but we were seated quickly after walking in. They have a lovely outdoor patio in the back, which we chose to sit at as the weather was beautiful that evening. Service was friendly and fast, and the food options were all delicious. We tried a number of dishes, including soups, salads, and appetizers. Their main dishes were spectacular, and the food seemed to be prepared fresh. I wish I had more pictures to share, but we were hungry and didn't wait to take photos before digging in. I highly recommend trying this place out if you are considering doing so.
I loved this place. It’s a cozy restaurant with nice vibe and it is very well decorated with traditional crafts. The food was delicious and the prices were very good for the portion and quality. I will definitely go back to try other dishes. Highly Recommended. It’s good to know that this is a bring-your-own wine place.
We had a fantastic dinner here. Every dish we had was flavorful and they use some delicious spices as well. We got the table d’hôte menu (a 4 course menu) and the lamb in tomato sauce was my favorite dish. The lamb was falling off the bone and the sauce was spiced and balanced. It’s BYOB which is nice too!
Very tasty, good portion, efficient service (2 hours)
On est allé pour un dîner de Noël. Une place magnifique, remplisse de pleins de couleurs et saveurs. Serveur super accueillant et avec une mémoire incroyable. Je remercie à ma collègue de nous avoir ramener à cette belle découverte culinaire. 100% recommended. Vegetarian options: Not many but really good the one they have
Had the lamb shank tonight for the first time and hot dam it did not disappointed! This place is just A+ all around!
Fantastic food, thoughtful service, and a cool atmosphere.
First time tasting this cuisine. Everything was super good! My new favorite restaurant.
Absolutely delicious food with the kindest staff, so friendly and caring. This place has become one of my favorites in Montreal
Great discovery! The dishes are good and generous. Fast and very courteous service. Just review the decor which is a little stuffy
Generous portions and delicious tastes
Everything was very good, the flavors excellent and the service impeccable. I highly recommend.
Very good lamb plate. I recommend you!
The food was amazing. Our server was very kind and honest. The place had a very nice cozy ambiance. He even showed us around the terrace even though it was closed. Must try this place, the Korma Chalaw was to die for.
Alright
Every place ever should be byob and have gargantuan portions like this. I like.
Food is always 10/10 Service is usually good but not last time we went.
Everything was very very good. Great service.
Ultra fast and efficient service with attentive servers. The grape rice with lamb is succulent and the portion generous. You will leave feeling full and satisfied. Gluten-free options
Excellent restaurant setting and service and we eat really well
Excellent food, great atmosphere, we will be back soon for sure.
Stumbled across this place while exploring the neighborhood on a visit to Montreal, and went in because we had never tried Afghan cuisine. Lucky for us they had 1 unreserved table. My wife and I each had a different lamb shank dish, and the lentil soup. From the flatbread they brought to the table, to the soup and the entrees, everything was exquisite. Khyber Pass was a definite highlight of out trip to Montreal. If we go back to the city, this restaurant will definitely be on the itinerary. Parking: We found street parking at the opposite end of Duluth Avenue. While the neighborhood is blocked off to traffic during the summer its a great walk through the area to get to Khyber Pass.
This was delicious. Sumptuous dishes, great, intricate flavours, lovely outside dining area. Terrific service. Vegetarian options: There are a few vegetarian options. Theyre great. You dont end up feeling like youre getting the lamb with the meat scraped off the side. But its not a vegetarian restaurant. The omnivores have a lot more to choose from.
Delicious!
Fantastic food! Delicious vegetarian plate with a number of tasty appetizers. 10/10 would recommend! Mobin gave us excellent service and made us feel right at home.
The korme chelow and filet mignon were both flavorful and well-prepared, but the ratio of meat to rice was a bit off. The rice portion was noticeably small, leaving the dish feeling unbalanced. A more generous serving of rice would have made the meal more complete.
Very nice discovery! Go to the heated terrace at the back, its a really cute atmosphere! And the food is so good. I highly recommend.
Simple & Excellent!
Food was incredibly good, i love showing this place to friends and family. The BYOB-feature also gives you the freedom to drink whatever you want :) Thanks, will come again;)
It s decent, but nothing particularly remarkable.
I wish I could give it 6 out of 5.
That was perfect
One of the best restaurants ever. Loved the food and the vibe. Easily became my favourite restaurant for Afghani food.
A unique place in Montreal. The lamb is very good.
Can t go wrong with the filet mignon brochettes , server was like a hero alone in the desert! Congrats bud!
Highly recommended , Thank you for the great hospitality and amazing food . You made my stay memorable in Montreal :) Food
We had great time with delicious food here.
We had a wonderful experience at this Afghan restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious full of authentic flavors and perfectly cooked. The staff were incredibly caring and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. Highly recommend for anyone looking to enjoy amazing Afghan cuisine in a warm and welcoming atmosphere!
Great restaurant and excellent products. Very friendly welcome
Very nice discovery, the table dhôte is very advantageous and the quality of the food was top notch. The filet mignon skewer was delicious!
My first Afghan dish experience and we werent disappointed! Food was great and the menu offers very decent choices. Ambiance is pretty nice and very Montreal-esque. It was a great night to eat and enjoy a good wine, with good company Service makes a difference as well. Our waiter was very friendly, hard worker and listened to us like a person. He took time even it was busy. I recommend this place and will come back...hopefully before summer ends to enjoy the Terrace. Parking: Street parking, and we got lucky Kid-friendliness: Surprised to see lots of kids, which is great! Staff is friendly to all ages.
I adore this place. The food was delicious and full of flavour. The restaurant itself is has great character and charm. The waiting staff was so accommodating. We were a large group with four small children. Our waiter went the extra mile to make sure we were all taken care of. We will definitely be back!
Delicious Afghan restaurant, amazing service and friendly staff
Very good restaurant, the flavors are just wow. I love it As for the service it depends on the server like almost everywhere.
I like the atmosphere and food and Mr. Mobeen is a brilliant person that provides a wonderful hospitality to their customers.
Really nice place, it s real afghani place the taste is similar with Afghan food from Afghanistan, we really love their service, we asked the guy his name was (Mr. Mobeen) I never seen this kind of guy who provide us real afghani services in North America. Mr mobeen and his hospitality deserve 5 stars I really love his communication and his service. Kid-friendliness: I thought I know mubeen from long time he was really friendly guy and I thought I came in someone home in Afghanistan
I recently dined at Afghanic Restaurant and had an exceptional experience. The ambiance was warm and inviting, and the food was incredibly flavorful, offering a delightful taste of authentic Afghan cuisine. Mobeens hospitality stood out the most; he made us feel right at home with his attentive and friendly service. Its rare to find such genuine and personalized attention. I highly recommend Afghanic Restaurant for anyone looking to enjoy great food and outstanding service.
Cheap eats and they let you bring your own wine! 41$ for a Table dhote. Would go again!
They have the best service ever and their food is amazing, if you re in Montreal I suggest you to come here.
Great atmosphere. Authentic. The kabuli palaw was delicious. Lamb so tender. Started with a starter: pumpkin borani which was tasty. Courteous service and the server was helpful. He offered me the rose water pudding drizzled with pistachios which was really delicious with my cardamom tea. Vegetarian options: lots of choice!
Our favorite restaurant.
Nestled in the heart of Montreal, Khyber Pass offers an authentic taste of Afghan cuisine that delights the senses. The lamb kebab and shank are simply excellent - tender, flavourful, and perfectly seasoned. The rice, infused with interesting spices, complements the dishes beautifully. The table dhote menu provided a generous selection at a very fair price, making it a great value for money. One of the highlights is the beautiful terrasse in the back, providing a peaceful and charming ambiance for outdoor dining. For drinks, it is BYOB, maybe add some non-alcoholic beer? Just a thought . The cardamom-infused green tea is fabulous, but served in a small cup, and the waiter did not offer a refill, which was a slight letdown. Despite this, the overall experience at Khyberpass was delightful, and it is a must-visit for anyone looking to explore Afghan flavours in Montreal.
The waitstaff were nice and very accommodating, the atmosphere was quite enjoyable, and the food was stellar. The mourg chalaw was delicious. The meat was well seasoned, juicy, and dripped off the bone. While the sauce that came with the meat tasted amazing. I would definitely recommend trying this place.
Very delicious! Healthy food with good nutrition.
Magnificent food and flavors!! The atmosphere and service equally excellent! I recommend it 100%
The service was terrible. The waiter stepped on my shoe, overfilled my cup, spilling water on my phone, and even poured water on my companions hand because waiter wasnt paying attention. Overall, it was a horrible experience. While the food was ok, I wouldnt recommend this place to anyone.
I ve been here many times and always great service and outstanding food!!
Service was good, food was delicious and mild. I ate at this restaurant almost 10 years ago and it has still very good. Highly recommended!
A little disappointed... there were two of us and we ordered the table dhôte for $37 each with 2 different dishes (lamb and Kofta). Both dishes were simmered in the same tomato sauce, not very spicy, subtle taste, but the meat was very tender. The taste of the tomato sauce took over too much. As a starter: Basic salad, not seasoned and roughly prepared (large pieces of onions, the tomato head was not removed...). The rice was good, but in small quantities and served with the same salad as the starter. Dessert: rose water pudding. Very good, but lacked pistachio (it was sprinkled with a few fine pistachio crumbs). Also disappointed by the tea which was too diluted. For people who like clean tastes, spices and culturally true food, this is very disappointing. I also expected finer cuisine. It feels a bit like a dining room, canteen style. Other more casual Afghan restaurants offer better and tastier dishes for a much more reasonable price.
Khabab meal missed some spices. Good service! No pressure to order.
A lovely and warm restaurant with delicious food!
I love everything about this place! It s super authentic and makes you travel. The food, the service and the atmosphere are making it perfect! The price are really good for the amount of food you can have.
I loved my very first time at this restaurant clearly Im going to go back there I went to eat for my birthday and I have no regrets about all the dishes I ate everything was delicious 9/10 on all dishes because obviously the only weak point is that there is a lot of coriander in almost all dishes except that it is their main ingredients
Super delicious food and good portions. The best of all was the service, our waitress was excellent! I recommend it and I will return
Best afghan food I ve ever had. The kebabs are SO juicy. I just wish they didn t run out of ingredients all the time
First experience for Afghan cuisine. Excellent! Tangy without being spicy. They know how to cook with herbs and aromatics. We will return. Only downside: difficulty parking in the area.
Khyber Pass offers authentic Afghan cuisine served in a charming cave-like setting with stone walls, creating a memorable and intimate atmosphere. The menu features traditional dishes bursting with rich flavors and aromatic spices. The attentive service enhances the dining experience, making it a standout choice for exploring Afghan culinary delights in Montreal. A must try for those visiting.
world of taste. very traditional and delicious.
Amazing afghani restaurant! Delicious food, fantastic service, authentic and interesting decor. Our waiter was the most delightful young man and we were able to talk about our Persian connection. We ordered the mantoo to start, kofta, and chicken kabob. Everything was delicious, seasoned/spiced perfectly, and very filling. Will definitely come back again.
Tasty Afghan food in a nice setting
Excellent meat, overall the food is really good and authentic
The food is delicious & full of flavours and the portions are generous!
Great customer délicieuse food amazing music
amazing food! everything is so flavorful and perfect for sharing too, and on top of that, service is really great. staffs are very nice.
good food and nice service
Amazing service! I was cold on the terrace and the waiters/employees changed the empty propane for a new one to warm us up! The food is excellent, I recommend the Kabuli Palaw! I will definitely go back.
Fine Afghanistan dishes. You should try the kabully palowe. Food
The food was SO good. Great service. Beautiful dining room with wonderful music.
I went to Khyber Pass about ten years ago and had very good memories of it. I hate to give negative reviews, but here, it seems important to me to counterbalance the overly positive reviews. No complaints about the ambiance and the service was what it was. The food, on the other hand, would be enough to enrage a Gordon Ramsey and would have made a good episode of Kitchen Nightmares. There is no love and passion in this food. It lacks soul, taste, spices and freshness. Its reheated and the ingredients are not well chosen. We are not very far from Casa Grecque but less well seasoned. The gargantuan portions of the main meals are off-putting, especially when you realize, once youre hungry, that its not very good after all. Waste is inevitable. If the owners are reading these lines, my advice would be to completely review the menu, to invest in quality rather than quantity. We would have happily paid a little more if the quality had been there. Unfortunately no one from our group plans to return (unless things change).
Great BYOB restaurant :) I recommend the table dhôte menus! I had the homemade lentil soup (very garlicky and delicious), the pumpkin borani as a starter, the lamb dish as a main course (delicious!!). It ends with tea and a rose and pistachio pudding which I didnt like though. The atmosphere is great, its not too noisy so we can hear each other talking, and the food is generous :D I left with leftovers.
Best eggplant I ve ever had!!
Their kabuli is excellent!
The table dhôte is perfect for a first visit. We combined a table dhôte 1 and a table dhôte 2 to only have one starter to share. The portions are huge. Everything was good. Favorite for mashaba soup (beef and noodles) and mantoo (leek dumplings with meat sauce and yogurt). Very efficient service, but a little too hasty (no rest time between services). Bonus: we can bring our own wine.
Simply delicious! Will definitely go back :)
Get the pumpkin bourani. You wont be disappointed.
Excellent server. We asked that the chef give us an experience. We had the experience. Super good, super cool! THANKS !
Wow, great discovery! Service, meal everything was perfect! Special mention to server Simo! I advise you to try it, a delight for the taste buds!
WoW! I loved my evening at the Khyber pass. The meal was delicious and what can I say about Simos service. Thank you to the cooks who introduced us to the flavors of their country!
A classic this restaurant
Hot damn! The food was phenomenal and the waiter was so friendly and welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and are keeping this in the books for future meals.
Afghan food is the most fragrant I know. It s truly a change of scenery for the taste buds. I recommend the lamb skewers. They were excellent. The rice which is very fragrant is literally sublime. The only weak point that has nothing to do with the restaurant is parking. We are on Duluth Street so you have to know the pitfalls of the city of Montreal.
The restaurant is overpriced for what it is offering. Seems to be clean with good food however, I would not say tasty. I personally did not like it much, don t think is value for money and would not go there again or recommend.
Do not miss out on the Kabuli Palaw (lamb shank). We also loved the Borani eggplant and the lentil soup.
Amazing food, amazing service, so excited to be back!!
Best place to eat the best lamb shank in town. Perfect exotic ambiance , friendly staff, excellent service, delicious dishes and BYOW! You will not be disappointed. A must if you are in town.
Great value for money. A delight of flavor. A very friendly and helpful waiter. Honestly a great discovery
Mashallah!!!!
Friendly environment and special food with amazing service
Great food, good atmosphere, a great terrace in summer and reasonable price. It is BYOB which is great. Mashaba soup, Kabuli palow, chupan kebab and the rose pistachio pudding are amazing. Food
Very nice evening! The service excellent. The food very good. The must: the lamb shank! Sick!! Astronomical amount of food Bring your own wine. Very affordable prices. A must!
We ordered Kabuli Pulao and another lamb dish. The food was okay. However, above 33 dollars per person per dish, it was not at all worth it. Apart from that, they have a rule that there has to be a minimum of 1 dish order per person. Through this, they make sure 2 people cant share a plate of their expensive food. The atmosphere was not great. The interior was very cramped. Without even asking, they had already included a 15+% tip. Not worth it. And the food is definitely not worth what youre paying for.
As an afghan girl myself who consumed afghan food all my life, i can confirm that this passed the vibes check and did hit the spot for the only time i didn t wanted to cook at home. The aush, the mantoo, the banjan borani and the kofta chalaw were 10/10. Very mazadar tashaku khyber team
New favorite restaurant. Food was amazing! Highly reccomend the table dhote! Excellent value. BYOB.
Loved, loved, LOVED! I was lucky enough to eat on the terrasse in the back. The decor was lovely, really felt like I was in another country. The food was amazing and delicious. it was so aromatic, I couldnt stop eating. I had the lamb and it was so tender. For how much I paid, I ate a lot and left full and happy.
Very cosy restaurant, amazing food, and the waiter who served me was very generous of his time and friendly.
One of my favorite places to eat in Montreal! Great service, great atmosphere, and amazing food. Wow, simply wow! They have a great ambiance, and the decor is really cute. Yes, it s that good! I recommend this place to everyone
Nice and traditional afghan decoration. The food is actually very average and nothing impressive for someone who knows the Afghan gastronomy. Very rude owners and definitely a terrible service. Overpriced for what you get. The same food (eg. Kabuki pulao) is much chipper in all other Afghan restaurants in Montreal. I wont go back again
Very delicious large portion food, great atmosphere, friendly and efficient waiter
Delicious authentic food and great service !
An amazing dining experience in all domains! Our service was friendly, kind, and attentive. Our food was amazing, with flavorful lamb melting off the bone. The borani à la citrouille was particularly tasty, as was the rose water pudding. The space was itself was warm and cozy, and the price point very reasonable.
Very good Afghan restaurant, I recommend it :)
The exterior of this restaurant always intrigued me. Finally went. The food is great (lamb was so tender and everything was wonderfully flavorful) and good value for the amount you get. Love the ambience and the service was excellent. I will definitely be going back and taking friends.
Had a delicious meal at Khyber Pass. The table d hôte is very reasonably priced at 40$ and comes with soup, entrée, main course, and dessert. Everything was delicious! Tasty and healthy. Bring your own wine too which is super fun. 5/5!
Food was amazing, service was amazing, ambiance was super cozy
Food is good service is good but the atmosphere could be a little bit better. Overall its a great place I recommend to everyone!
This was the most different Afghan culinary experience Ive had. Most of the Afghan food Ive tried was in the GTA in Ontario. Im accustomed to a casual setting, without table service, and a basic menu consisting of platters mostly composed of rice with your choice of meat, bit of salad and a naan on the side. The format was very different here, I opted for the 3-course meal. I really enjoyed the Mantu dumplings. BYOB is a very unfamiliar concept for Afghan restaurants, was different having some wine with the food. Service was superb throughout our time there. The multi-room layout was neat as well, as the restaurant is set in a historic house with the original layout preserved. This is probably the most refined Afghan dining experience you can find, likely in all of Canada.
This place makes your whole body and soul dance. 5/5 Magnific, nourishing, delightful
This is the best Afghani food I ve ever tasted till now. The service was good, the place is always full, make sure to reserve in advance, it s a bring ur own wine place, the inside is good as well, we really felt transported to Afghanistan! Prices are reasonable, it is the authentic Afghani place in Montreal so far. Enjoy the food! Cheers
I cant believe I forgot to leave a review but I went here for my birthday and it was unforgettable.
Always a pleasure!
Dinner with friends Delicious, hearty and warm! Friendly, attentive and fast service. We brought our bottle of wine, it was perfect.
Flavour packed and well cooked food, friendly service, and a great atmosphere on the outdoor patio made for a memorable experience. We will return!
A delight for the eyes and the mouth! The dishes are excellent, the service is very fast and although the dish alone is a little expensive, the menu is definitely worth it. The pleasant restaurant decoration enhances the experience ideally.
Pretty decent middle eastern fare. Everything was slightly overcooked to my taste but nice flavors. Friendly service. A little expensive though
Absolutely amazing experience here. Loved the food, the service was exceptional, and the ambience was on point.
Mubeen helped to find the best entrée for me and my wife. This restaurant offers an exceptional dining experience that combines fabulous food, a welcoming environment, and an array of entrees that will leave you craving for more. I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a memorable culinary adventure.
Simply delicious! My sister introduced us to this restaurant and wow! And what about the service, our server was so friendly! smiling, joking, charming. Also an intimate atmosphere, really worth discovering.
This restaurant used to be one of my favorite in the area. I was there last night and ordered my usual. The piece of meat was so small they covered it with rice so that I could not see it. Very disappointed.unfortunately I did not have my phone.with me so no photos...
Such a great place, the lamb is amazing. The service is A+, very friendly and a nice decor. Food
We have eaten there twice in the last 4 months. Great atmosphere, on the terrace in summer or in the troglodyte room in the basement. Super efficient waiters who advise very well, exceptional flavors, reasonable prices. An experience to do!!
Great food; good portions and excellent flavours; not salty, greasy, or overpowering. Also a strong variety of meat with some good vegetarian options too. Service was fast, respectful, and accommodating to us. Reservations are highly recommended. You can bring your own wine.
Kabuli Palaw (lamb shank) and vegetable soup was good
The food was very good. Great portions and prices are good.
A bit pricey but food is great. The combo #1 is a great deal; must try the Kabuli Palaw- rice is addicting!
Good food but not sure how clean is it. One of them was blowing on the rice pudding to spread the cinnamon which ruined the whole experience.
Food was very good. They brought deserts before we all finished our main meals. They brought the bills before we finished our food and made us pay. They opened the lights and invited us to leave before 11h. I will never go back there again.
I LOVE this place. The ambiance is so homey and the staff is super kind. We ordered the Table D hôte #1 with mantoo and korma chalaw and it was fantastic. Really beautiful flavours!
Exceptional cuisine, personalized and extraordinary service, the atmosphere takes us on a journey. Ill go back any time. The price is not high compared to the quality of the food. I love THANK YOU Mobin for everything.
Very good experience with Mati as server!!! Delicious
Very traditional place with its decor! A fairly affordable and good menu. What struck me was the spices used even in the dessert which gave a hummmm taste. To try.
I recently dined at Khyber Pass, an Afghan restaurant, and had a mixed experience. The lentil soup was delicious, and the Korma chalaw offered a variety of rice, though it was just okay and not much tasty, and the rice was a bit cold. The rose water pudding and tea were delightful. Its a small venue, so reservations are recommended. However, the overall experience felt overpriced. Bring your wine, as the restaurant doesnt offer alcoholic drinks.
Delicious food, quick and good portions. We got the tasting menu and loved each plate!
