Le Uptown in Montreal

When we arrived, we were warmly welcomed. The service was extraordinary, I literally felt like a king. The food is exquisite, we tasted a bit of everything and nothing disappointed! What surprised me a little was the lack of a menu. We were served several dishes: Mutton, chicken, samosas, fries, fufu, plantains, fish and shrimp as well as dessert. The cost of the drinks was a bit surprising: $12 for a mocktail and $9 for a Coke. In the end, a bill of $113 (including tip), but I think the quantity of food and the service easily excuses the price. Overall, I still really liked my experience. The 5 review is well deserved!

Everything is great and the food is delicious except by the time it reaches your table, it s not hot! Otherwise great ambiance! We really enjoyed the Djembe drumming with everyone, the guy leading it made it super fun! We even got our face painted in African style. Cocktails were amazing!!

Coming from Paris with my daughter and in the company of my sisters from Canada, good experience at Le Uptown our waitress Jamila was very helpful, patient and at our service. The DJ played some good music of the moment for us. The tilapia was very good. I recommend

Drove all the way from Longueuil to come try this place out and it was closed. This is the second time this has happened. I even tried calling you guys but it says connection could not be established so are you shut down or are you open??

Magnificent setting, very warm welcome at reception. On the other hand, very poor customer service, lack of variety of dishes, you order a bottle of wine, it is hot and not at temperature for $65 per bottle. We put the bottle on the table without serving you!!! Never seen before restaurant located in the heart of MTL but the service leaves something to be desired. The employees have no training! As for the kitchen, very average! Not the best Congolese cuisine restaurant. Too much noise, we cant talk. I dont recommend it if you want to have a nice time chatting without it costing you too much for few taste surprises. I do not recommend!!!!

Super ambiance

Come in the evening for an incredible and dynamic experience. Between music, playing instruments, dancing, makeup, and other activities, without forgetting the food which is of quality and large quantity. I had a great evening with my family, special mention to the homemade chikwangue which is really good (Congolese word)!

The restaurant on Queen Mary is currently closed for renovation. We moved for nothing. Please enter it in your Google schedule. Dont move for nothing!

Delicious and affordable

My family and I ate at the Le Uptown location near Notre Dame Cathedral. The atmosphere was really neat with all of the leaves hanging from the ceiling and the walls covered in ivy. The waitstaff was super nice and welcoming. That being said, this was by far the worst food we had while in Montreal and WAY overpriced. I had the mutton which was dry and flavorless. The sides available were also lacking any flavor whatsoever. I have eaten in many African restaurants and have generally enjoyed my experiences, but the food here was abysmal.

Excellent restaurant. The food is very good and VERY abundant. A typical Congo flavor with African flavors and American fusion. The atmosphere is very good and enjoyable with a Djembe show.

Great restaurant, the food is incredible and the service is top notch, I was with friends and we werent at all easy to manage but little Elvira was so nice and adorable, were going to come back just for her and Samuel too too cute. Thank you very much for these incredible moments

Delicious mutton poutine, but really poor service frankly, 30 minutes before they came to see us to pay the bill after we waited 20 minutes before asking for it (even though there were three tables for two waiters.. In addition the poor service tipping option on the terminal which amounts to tipping around 15% without indicating the percentage, not high.

The food was really not good for the price we paid in reality I expected the best, in terms of service it was a 10/10

I ordered the mutton meat, which unfortunately turned out to be dry and lacking in taste and flavor. The limited menu options coupled with the high prices made the overall dining experience disappointing. Although the portions were generous, the food failed to impress, leaving much to be desired in terms of quality and taste. Additionally, the temperature inside the restaurant was noticeably cold, detracting from the overall comfort of the dining experience. While Uptown Restaurant African excels in creating a lively ambiance, it ultimately falls short in delivering a satisfying culinary experience. For 70$ with the discovery menu, not worth since we had to dine with our coats and gloves

Food: 1/5 Place: 1/5 Service: 2/5 Price: 1/5 I hate leaving bad reviews but this place left me no choice, I hate being scammed. We went on a cold day and the restaurant somehow had no heating and everyone including the staff were wearing coats. This was already a hint but I decided to stay and give it a chance. The food is sadly nothing more than frozen and reheated food, I had their lamb plate of 35$ and it was filled with dry meat and I could t even eat it. The waiter did not warn me that a side coming with my plate was missing that day even thought he knew, he tried to hide it from me for some reason Their prices are insanely high for mediocre food, i went with Congolese friends and even the fufu was terrible.

Went for the fufu. Food was good. Fumbwa and chicken with plantains were nice. Service was not great despite only 4 other people in the restaurant. Slow. After taking the order, waiter didnt come back a single time to see us. Warning: music is extremely loud. You cannot have a conversation over it. So for those sensitive to noise or looking to bring a date youd like to converse with, definitely not the place to go

Our entire group loved their dish. The only downside is the very cold temperature. No heating. Not very great in the middle of February... and it was a little dark for a Sunday lunchtime. We will come back but not in winter.

It was my second time. I invited my cousin and we had a great time. We chose experience ; Lingala and Swahili cocktail: 10/10! Mayo chicken, tilapia fish, plantain and fries! Very well stocked plates we didn t even manage to finish. I recommend 100000%!!

Great food, large portions and reasonable prices. Fun atmosphere with music and free face painting. It gets very busy towards the night and service can be a bit slow. Had to wait around 30 minutes for our bill, and had problem communicating with the staff because of the loud music, which caused this delay. Overall a great place!

Where to start my friend and I decided to go eat there last night excited according to the images on tiktok and the famous Aline and her famous sauce. The walls were dirty, the wooden floors were broken and slippery, my friend fell down because the floor was greasy when she came out of the bathroom. We took the special menu $55 the FOOD WAS DISGUSTING their mayo chicken made me feel sick because there was no seasoning it looked like Quebec chicken without taste, their cocktail taken without alcohol it looked like red powder mixed with sugar and water. I even asked where the famous Aline is, we are told that she is there in the morning, she comes back in the evening and my friend said it shows their donut heated in the microwave was hard, a total lie on their flat, the decor There was food left in front of us so disgusting we asked if we wanted to bring back we said no thank you WE SHOULD have gone to the KWIZIN RESTAURANT IN VERDUN We will never set foot there again, thats it. Pure and simple smut. Why cant the rest of the blacks do better, what a waste.

Unique experience! The atmosphere in the restaurant is exceptional and will take you on a journey during your dinner. Good music, entertainment with the tom-tom but also makeup with Myriam! The food was really full of flavors, I really recommend the lamb, the portions are very good. We really need more places like this in Montreal!! I highly recommend you will not be disappointed.

Its not the best African restaurant, few varieties. Not very generous portion for the price. I had the beef skewers with bananas and rice; skewers overcooked and dry, little rice. Only the aloco (platinum) were good. Good atmosphere on the other hand, perhaps better for drinking with friends than eating.

Cost too much for the quality you get. They are generous with the portion for sure, but none of my friends liked their meals, including me. The sheep meat was dry and not freshly cooked. Service slow. No heat in the restaurant so we eat with our coats. For 70$ I expected alot more . We took the discovery menu for 55$

beautiful restaurant with a nice atmosphere but unfortunately I was served an allergen. It was mentioned over the phone that I had an allergy to honey but I was served it anyway. I couldnt go to work for two days and almost went to the emergency room. Please be careful about things like this.

Twice, I had problems with my orders. The first time, they replaced my donuts with samosas (which I dont like). When I called them, they offered to drive to their house to pick up my donuts the next day. The second time, they canceled my order after more than 30 minutes, when the Uber driver was already at their house... No more comments!

Extremely long waiting time even though we had a reservation. Cold food, long and poor service. I ordered donuts it took 30 minutes or more before I received them, they were donuts made since old or the morning is as hard as ever. Never again will I come back. I like to encourage my community but when it s disgusting like that. It frustrates me! Can we do some good things until the end!!!!

Bad communication between the staff, it took 10 years for the manager to inform us certain promotions have a deadline, too many requests that we put good reviews from the start.

Absolutely incredible! Nothing but great things to say about this place. Our waiter s name was Eduardo and he was the absolute sweetest. Smiling, patient, helpful, overall amazing service. The owner was also present and interacting with us, which is always appreciated. The atmosphere was so unique and pleasant. Not to mention the food . Flavourful and fresh even at 9:30PM. We will definitely be back and will be recommending this place!

Can we here mid-week and had the poulet mayo and the poutine both INCREDIBLE. In addition to the amazing food, we were able to enjoy the Uptown experience! Had an amazing time with Miriam doing our make-up and a fantastic djembe drummer who led us in a drum circle that helped me finally understand what drum circles are about. Fantastic vibes, keen to come back on a weekend and have more of their cocktails!
