.
Amazing food and top notch service. Sweetbread was perfectly crunchy on the outside, tender and moist on the inside. The ranch dressing balanced the richness of the sweetbread. The Poutine Au Foie Gras was sinfully rich. Take an already delicious poutine and top it with foie gras. Amazing. The Duck in a Can was simply unique, decadent and a must try. All those flavors packed into can, boiled and served over sourdough bread. To finish, the raspberry molten cake was a refreshingly delightful finale to a rich and decadent dinner.
We started with the oysters with soy egg yolk and duck temaki which were both absolutely delicious. Duck in a can was unique in presentation and had a comforting home cooking flavor. The pork shank, however, was a huge miss. The sauce tasted like Campbell’s SpaghettiOs. Luckily the meal was saved with the restaurant’s classic dessert, pouding chomeur.
My all time favorite place to go - when in Montréal. The cuisine is the best; equally the staff (Team) take care of you from the moment you arrive till your departure. Our recommendation is to sit at the bar/counter and watch the chef and his teams make phenomenal cuisine with passion and energy. We also ordered items not on the menu! Oh yeah, Ring the bell! 12/14/24 We just came back for round two (2) for a special event. The experience and fun remains still be top notch. Melina and her team took excellent care of us. We also brought as a gift a better new lanyard for the bell.
Highly recommended, this is the best food I’ve had in Montreal. Everything we ordered on that day was superb delicious and outstanding. Not only the name is unique, new to me but taste here is really out of this world. Definitely above 3 ⭐️ Michelin foods, I will awarded to the team. This restaurant is very popular and reservation is mandatory. I don’t how they stew, boil or stream the meats? Everything instantly melted in my mouth without bite or chew?🙄 That’s what I called, “magic”? 😊 A bit complaint - when it’s too crowded , hard to get out from the seat with full stomach because blocked by patrons.🤭
Shepherd's pie is to die for. Poutine is also amazing. Mac and cheese is creamy and yummy. Next time I'll get shepherd's pie, poutine, and the pork knuckle instead of pasta. The pasta was too creamy for my wife (I ate it all, though, and I'd still recommend it). The pudding chômeur was also ridiculously good. It was a little small for the price, but it was so decadent that it was worth it.
This might be the best food I’ve had in Canada so far!! So delicious, and the service from all the workers (especially Alex) was amazing. So friendly and welcoming, and Alex is great at recommending the perfect drink. Thanks so much everyone! I hope to come back soon
Went twice during our time in Montreal, it lives up to the hype. Don't expect many (any?) salads, this temple of gastronomy is pure gluttony at its finest. Shout out to our server Gabriel, he was super friendly and attentive and everything you would hope for in a waiter. Really made the experience for us the second time
Everything was wonderful. The whiskey sour was the best I’ve ever had. We ordered 4 apps, 2 entrees and a dessert. There was a nice balance between lighter refreshing items and the most decadent rich traditional French dishes. The guinea-fowl was a stand out. The sauce was incredible! In addition to the food and drinks being amazing the service was also fantastic! A must try if you are in the area!
A wonderful meal as always at one of my favourite places in Montreal. Highly recommend and Alex our server was so helpful with the menu and off menu offerings. A great experience was had by all.
An almost perfect score! Excellent meal, excellent service. A restaurant with the most competent employees! A small downside: the unnecessary noises of mistreated clean pans.
For 3 years, we have always reserved a table for 2 during the holiday period. The first year, we ate the cassoulard which we really liked but this dish is no longer offered which is a shame. We eat and drink very well even though our favorite dish is no longer on the menu. To recommend Dietary restrictions: We have no dietary restrictions but I know there are options available.
The foie gras nigiri and the duck in a can are enough reasons to fly back to Montreal. That is how good these menu items are. The service, however, needs improvement. The wait time was insane from the time you order your drinks to your appetizer. We waited 30 mins to be served appetizer. Then from appetizer to main entree was another 25 mins. Did they expect us to eat the 4 pcs of Nigiris leisurely for 20 mins? There were more time for us waiting than actual eating. Too bad we missed the dessert as we didnt have enough time. If you don t mind the wait, head to this restaurant. Totally worth it. .
Good spatial vibe, tight and cozy. Excellent food and drinks.
First time at Pied de Pigs and certainly not the last thanks to the team
F..k the negative Reviews!! EVERYTHING I ate was the BEST I have ever had! If you are reading this, you MUST come eat here!!!! Freakin Amazing!!!
A more than excellent restaurant and the service is exceptional! I will go back without any hesitation! Thanks to Émile, a great personalized service!!
Food is fantastic. The wait turned high expectations into anger. Pity
The entrées were excellent but We were not able to eat the main meal. Were definitely not coming back
Great restaurant! Always nice to go there and above all very good and great experience!
The cuisine is excellent, but the portions are large, especially considering that the dishes are very rich. This is a generalized comment. Gabriels service was good but we were served 2 hours after arriving. For a group of 8, its way too long. Rather than receiving all the dishes at the same time, it would have been better to receive them earlier and one after the other.
A great Montréal experience!
After several years of waiting before deciding to visit this legendary place, I was disappointed. It was good, but not wow. The lack of organization at the end of the service tainted my perception. I went there, I checked the box, but I will recommend other addresses to my loved ones.
The dishes are good, the portions generous, the wine ordinary, the waiter quite heavy. The noise level is high, its difficult to speak without shouting, the seating is bad and the chairs at neighboring tables are stuck together. Ok but not great.
Fire
I am visiting Montreal for the week and decided to try Au Pied de Cochon for the first time. The food was absolutely incredible. I highly recommend this the foie gras nigiri! The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful, thank you for the memorable experience!
Ate here twice, amazing and requires a reservation
What an incredible place! The finest Québecois cusine in a really happy and relaxed atmosphere. The food is inventive and delicious, and the service is on point. Our waiter, Émile was excellent, with a winning personality, providing us with the attentive, yet unobtrusive service that is found in the best restaurants. A shout out to the gentleman who bussed our table, we never ran out of water, and the person who delivered our dinner, her ethusiasm for the food was infectious. Truly one of the best restaurants in Montréal, Québec, and Canada. P.S. Try the cider! Wheelchair accessibility: The front of the restaurant is step-free.
Exceptional, as always! Chef Michael and his culinary team-- Spot on! A great off-menu mixed salad, again the duck tartare, presented in seaweed sheet-cone, and this time the Aged Grilled Pork Chop, and Ice Cream Profiteroles! All were both outstanding! Theos cocktails and service were outstanding! Thanks everybody!
Great atmosphere. Wonderful dining experience!!! Great service.
Truly one of my favorite restaurants in the world. Service and food are outstanding, the restaurant is charming. I will come to Montreal just to eat here!
It was a long-awaited return for me and my partner and a first for our son. A memorable evening! Festive atmosphere, food that lives up to the reputation. What was better than the food? The service! Impeccable . Thank you Frédérick for a successful evening
Amazing as always. Had the eel + foie as an appetizer and the duck in a can as the main. Both were awesome, especially the eel. Sat at the bar this time and the bartender was great, very quick with everything and attentive. Went back a second time. Started with the ceviche this time and it was good, but not something that i would order next time. Really wanted to try the sea urchin pasta as the starter but for some reason it was not on the menu and the server didntmention it as a special. I did see the kitchen making them, but too bad I realised it too late to change my order. For the main I had the aged pork chop and it was amazing! Generous portion, cooked perfectly and the cabbage with parmesan complemented it nicely. Once again, great job PDC!
One of my favorite places in Montreal
Delicious food - I had the cabbage rolls & crème brûlée. So fun to sit at the bar and watch the action happen in the kitchen - you could see it was a hard working team. Great service overall!
Fantastic service. All the employees were extremely friendly, funny, charming, and happy to be of service. The atmosphere style, like youre at a sugar shack, with the open kitchen and Quebecois music in the background was unforgettable. I would go with a 4-1/2 stars on the food, but I cant so I rounded up to 5! Very rich and delicious but should come with a tums after!
One of the top restaurants in Montreal Great team in the kitchen and in the dining room which makes this magical place a must. Long live pig s trotters and long live this institution.
Always a fantastic experience. Service is exceptional, laid back yet spot on and very professional, food is incredible, choice of drinks is amazing, nothing but good times!
Despite a bit of a wait, this restaurant is definitely worth it. The service was excellent! Poutine is a must.
Awesome place, youll want to taste everything on the menu ! Just dont listen to the wine guy
Stick to your ribs stuff for sure. Fun, relaxed atmosphere. Wife and I shared duck temaki and fois gras profiteroles. She had Sheppard s pie and I had the famous duck in a can. Food is excellent. Very busy. Vegetarian options: Don t be stupid. This restaurant is an affront to vegetarianism.
So far, my favorite
Thunderous atmosphere, exquisite and original dishes, copious, and attentive and personalized service.
For lovers of decadent food! Luxury fast food, no refinement, only excess. Too much fat, too much sugar! Fragile health, abstain! The porco starter was really rubbish. A fish mayo sauce at the bottom of the plate, with thin slices of pork: already there, try to taste the finesse of the pork with this very strong-tasting fish sauce! Pieces of Tête de Moine cheese and chunks of wasabi... Anything... All the flavors were fighting and canceling each other out... For the atmosphere, we are sitting so packed, we have the buttocks of the world trying to squirm to sit in the face! The service is excessively slow! On the other hand, the staff is nice, but definitely stressed! And the noise! Theres someone who likes it, you have to believe... Overrated reputation. Dietary restrictions: Too rich and too decadent, there are limits to stuffing yourself. Are we eating for that now? Finesse completely absent....
The chair was dirty
A magnificent evening, the dishes are exceptional! The service is perfect. Truly a must. Im already looking forward to next time!!!
Amazing experience - food, atmosphere & service ! It would be nice to have a bit more vegetable options (besides potatoes) . but you don t eat this delicious rich food every day and it would kind of go against the theme of the restaurant. Vegetarian options: none
We ate well, but it took a long time. We arrived around 8:15 p.m. and at 11:00 p.m., we had not yet received our main courses; we had 3 entries before. They offered us another entry to make up for the delay, because we had clearly been forgotten. The kitchen was very late. It screamed that tables had been waiting for over 70 minutes and it was chaotic in the kitchen. We had to save our wine to still have some for our dishes and we ordered a magnum (equivalent to 2 bottles) for 2 people. The last dishes were very sweet and savory (not as successful as usual). We finished our meal at midnight, so 4 hours to eat 6 dishes for 2 people. Lets just say we left it alone for dessert! The waiter was difficult to understand because he couldnt articulate very well.
Everyone says you must get the canned duck here but I must say I was more blown away by the foie gras profiteroles! We also really liked the duck tartar temaki. While the canned duck was great for a video/photo, I felt that the foie gras in the small plates tasted better and some parts of the canned duck were just way too fatty for me. If I came back I d order a bunch of the profiteroles.
Top notch!! Highly recommend.
Very nice experience. Good in the mouth, impeccable service, thank you all!
Second time here comming from Toronto. Everything I ate except the oysters ad foie gras, and thats a good thing, you cant not eat foie and come here. Everything was amazing couldnt get enough of the foie nigiri, the terrine was amazing with the maple butter. Finally tried the duck in a can. Although I did not have the foie poutine this year, I highly recommend that to. The dessert, pouring chomeur, was great. PIck the add cheddar and foie option its a great pairing between sweet and savory. This place never disappoints and I will be back next year again, I need to try everything on the menu.
Simply delicious and the staff are very attentive. It was my 2nd time and not the last.
The duck temaki and foie gras nigiri are must-tries! The foie gras nigiri is tender, and the temaki is well-seasoned with layers of flavor. The Plogue à Champlain is also delightful, and the Moji-Pho cocktail is amazing spicy, unique, and absolutely refreshing. Get your reservation ahead of time to make sure you have a seat.
Wow. Have to say their foie gras blew me away. I ordered duck tamaki, foie gras nigiri and their plogue a Champlain (it s an appetizer dish with buckwheat pancake, topped with bacon and foie gras in maple glaze). Their foie gras nigiri sent me straight to heaven I know they are super famous for their foie gras poutine, but I didn t get that cause I wanted to give my belly space to try few variety of dishes. Their staffs were super friendly!! Bartender gave me a spicy liquor shot and it tasted delicious (not usually a shot fan but that tasted so good). I also had a Moji-pho, it s made of a spicy vodka produced by them, mixed with lime juice, maple syrup and oregano. it was perfectly balanced between spice , sourness and sweetness. I ended up going to the liquor store to buy those spicy vodka to the US They could get busy, so reservation recommended! Or you can try your luck with walkin at 5pm
Great experience One star less in service because it runs a bit and it was complicated to get our server The service was very good other than that I highly recommend and I already want to come back
Dinner at the bar with my boy, excellent advice from our server, tasty dishes, incredible wine! At the bar you are in the heart of the kitchen, very entertaining to watch, its great!! Well done kitchen team!
We had a group of 9 people and had excellent service and the food was fabulous. A wonderful experience. The foi gras is heavenly.
Very attentive employees, they accommodated us. Exceptional cuisine, with unparalleled flavor, we are happy to have stayed. Our only downside is the atmosphere is very noisy.
This is an institution in MTL with the legacy to leave people with happy tummies and it showed with how packed the restaurant was both locals and fellow tourists. Everything we ordered was great and the staff are really passionate and knowledgable with the food they serve as they proactively suggested the food to get depending on our liking. We were not that hungry as we already got dinner but still managed to order more than expected because of how good the food was!
Been going there for 10years plus and it is still a delicious menu. Loud. And boisterous Fun ambiance ! Service is overall ok , slow bar. So I d order wine and beer. Drinks were inventive but took forever to get to table unphased with our meal. This is the 3rd time the bar is slow. Add a barman or fire the current dude !
Great hostess and service at the bar. Enjoyed a great meal and drinks.
Just amazing food. You will not be disappointed.
Thanks to the best team ever and to Théo who made me the best dirty martini at 1am Melina and Emile are incredible
Excellent cuisine, efficient service and good advice. Nice concept of sharing the same dish because the portions are copious. The only complaint concerns the ambient noise which makes the meal painful. Difficult to get along at the table. The music played is too loud, forcing everyone to speak loudly. We should rather put some background music...
Food was good but very basic and rich! I had the bone marrow at $54 which was very small so a bit disappointing for the price! I also had the scallops quenelle with the mashed potatoe in the middle of the plate. Again very basic. Our waiter was great and the atmosphere was nice!
Excellent cuisine, top service but the background noise is deafening
May have gotten a five. Honestly, we chose plats main unwisely. We should have order the Duck in a Can and the Pork Shank, which the people next to us got and both looked amazing.
We had a wonderful evening!
Very Fun, super flavorful heavy food. Excellent service worth a trip Kid-friendliness: lots of kids for dinner not babies but 10 yrs plus Food : 3/5 |
First time and Wow!!! Excellent gastronomic experience!!!
Foie Gras. Foie Gras. The Scallop dish. The pancake dish. Our dessert was the creme pudding. Paired with Pinot Noir. A great culinary experience. Service was slow and disconnected. Everyone was friendly but the attention and timeliness wasnt there. Our waitress was more of a campaigner walking around to smile and be friendly but she didnt serve us. Odd right? They had bussers, food runners, altogether we had 4-5 different staff tend to us but none were truly attentive and timely. Im a generous tipper but I was wondering who gets the tip. I felt my waiter didnt deserve it. Odd right? We sat in front of the cooking station witnessed all the action. It felt operationally inefficient and chaotic. The head chef and his team, in my opinion deserved the tip. They held the entire restaurant together working in chaos and kept the dishes coming. I noticed hed call out that a dish was ready but the dish would sit on the shelf likely too long. The food did take too long to get and the time gap between dishes were too long. Wine ordering took too long. If the dishes came out more timely we wouldve wanted to order more. The best part by far are the incredible and unique dishes. Flavors, richness, uniqueness, all exceptionally enjoyable and memorable. The show stealer. About the atmosphere...for me...its a bit too cramped and loud for me, but I know its just me. Its a bar and pub feel. The atmosphere could be completely great for others. What do I know, the place was packed on a Wednesday evening.
Vibrant ,and authentic food while watching the line in action created a unique and most pleasurable (and delicious) experience.
Firstly, the parking is a 15 minute walk, then no indication on the facade, once located, for a reservation at 7 p.m., we had to wait until the space was free and ready for us. Oddly two other couples with reservations for 7 p.m. instantly passed us by. For the meal, I took the foie gras poutine and my partner took the guinea fowl bundle, beautiful presentation however the poutine was excessively salty and unfortunately my partner was the victim of food poisoning, is it due to the water? Due to poor cooking? Or Salmonellosis? Because its not very hygienic to have access to the toilet just in the same corridor as the kitchen. And the customers seated in front of the kitchen without separation. And very expensive for what is served. $$$$$$ dining experience.
An accumulation of errors in every aspect, this was our first and last visit to this restaurant. Based on our recent experience, this places reputation is way overrated. The music was way too loud, it ruined the fun of an evening with friends. The tables by the windows are freezing and I was forced to eat with my coat wrapped around my legs. The lady at the next table kept her coat on... Our waiter displayed a pretentious and smug attitude, he was unable to crack a smile. Instead of chatting with his colleagues with his back to the room, he should instead turn towards the customers and observe what is happening at the tables... Our three plates arrived lukewarm and we pointed this out to the waiter who offered nothing to satisfy us, apart from saying that it was not normal and that he had notified the kitchen... after we had finished our dishes. The foie gras poutine had very little cheese and some of my pieces of liver were rare and poorly denervated. I left these rare and poorly prepared pieces in plain sight on my empty plate, the serving staff saw nothing. Our server praised the almost gargantuan portions of the PDC. The poutine was insufficient as a main course for me and my friend, my partners cabbage cigars came down to just one cigar... The waiting time between ordering and receiving was really unjustifiable, for example 30 minutes for 2 beers and a glass of wine, when there is no preparation to be done. There were also errors with the type of coffee ordered by my partner, and his dessert had been forgotten. So he finished his meal alone, even though we had finished a long time ago, given the interminable waiting time between each item. On top of that, we were charged for one dessert too much, and we still waited more than a reasonable time to have everything corrected. Dont trust the menu on the internet, it has been changed but the update hasnt been done for a long time. Finally, the icing on the cake: the next day, I received an email from the PDC asking for our opinion on our experience. I respond privately, convinced that the owner would like to know more, the goal being to improve and adjust to the clientele. But no, nothing. I am now giving my opinion in public, with one star less, since no one takes the time to look into it. Its really disappointing. Television shows are great, but if you dont have time to do the rest, its a lot less happy! Monsieur Picard should perhaps review his priorities and stop riding on a reputation that does not live up to what he says he requires for a successful culinary experience. Is he really aware of what is happening in his institution?
Incredible food and unbeatable experience. Our server Frederick took care of us with our request for a tasting menu with wine pairing and OH BOY we were not disappointed. Very professional but relaxed service, great wine cellar and unrivaled foie gras in Montreal. I will be back, possibly not at 10pm without reservation this time. Thanks for the service!
The food and service, provided by Gabriel and his cohorts, was fantastic. Its an experience for the eyes and the taste buds! Victims of their success, the tables are a little close together and with large groups nearby, it can quickly become noisy. But... we cant blame them for that: who wouldnt want to be there! Once again, incredible culinary discoveries and the food and drink pairings, just perfect! As a cocktail or mocktail, it was incredible!
What a great evening. The food was fantastic, but what made the night special was how attentive and friendly the staff was.
I was treated to a menu adapted for my gluten and dairy allergies with great service! THANKS
Best meal Ive ever had in Montreal! Need reservation. Service was amazing, our water cup was never empty. We got duck temaki, Foie Gras Nigiri, duck in a can, and pouding chomeur. All so so so delicious highly recommend and would be coming to Montreal just for this
Reservations-only restaurant - reso at 9:30. 9:44 - We ordered the Sea Urchin Pasta ($21) to start, Duck in a Can ($61), and Aged Pork Chop ($49) for our mains with the Oranjeanne ($16) and Gin Guay ($18) for drinks. 10:04 - Pasta arrived and our appetizer was delicious! Served with the Uni and egg yolk in the shell, was nice and creamy, and was just the right amount of cook on the pasta. 10:10 - Drinks arrived - Oranjeanne was also amazing and was probably the best drink of the night. The Gin Guay was also good - I recommend giving it a stir as the maple syrup sinks to the bottom. The bartender who ran our drinks apologized for the wait, which our opinion didnt actually take that long LOL. After the above, it kind of went downhill from there. We finished our drinks and appetizer pretty quickly and ordered our second round of drinks while waiting for our mains. 10:50 - Martini Au Pied ($19) is your typical espresso martini but wasnt the best, and Matante Rhubarbe ($18) was also an average cocktail 10:59 - Our main courses finally arrived. A huge thing to note - it took basically an hour between our appetizer arriving and the mains to arrive. If we knew it was going to take an hour, we probably would have either ordered more apps or just ordered something else entirely. We arent expecting fast service but we also werent expecting an hour wait. When it hit our table, the runner explained our dishes and mentioned that it takes 25 mins for the Duck in a Can to be heated as he opened it and poured it in front of us - kind of weird for them to mention how long the dish took to be warmed when it took double that time to arrive lol. The dish itself was good, but if youre not too much into fat, DO NOT ORDER THIS DISH. I didnt mind it since I regularly enjoy heavy flavours. Also, Im not sure if it was intentional, but the bread it sat on was burnt. The Duck itself was cooked well-ish - it wasnt evenly cooked as at some point the meat was a bit of the tougher side. The fois gras and the celeriac puree was good, but with the wait time it really put a damper on our excitement for this place. My S/O ordered Aged Pork Chop - its to be expected that pork would be on the salty side, but it really was super salty! The meat was very tender which was nice but he said the cabbage heart was the better part of the dish taste-wise. Atmosphere was on the louder side (not a bad thing) but interestingly enough the table beside us started talking about chinese people, got shushed by their friend, and kept staring at my boyfriend for the remainder of the service. Not in any way a fault of the restaurant, but as tourists, it felt uncomfortable. Id also like to note that our server Theo didnt have much of an impact in general. Other than when we first ordered, and once when he asked us if our appetizer was okay, it was other staff serving us and helping us out throughout the night. After waiting a while after our meal, we were trying to get our bill. We had to ask a runner for it. The runner came back after ten minutes and apologized and said, Sorry, hes coming. All in all, we left slightly before 12 for a reso at 9:30. TLDR; Would love to have the Oranjeanne and the Uni Pasta again, but thats about it. Probably wouldnt return.
If you like foie gras and good warm fatty food this place is for you. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was good and lively. The pudding chômeur is a must and the pork shank with Spanish sauce was ultra tasty. The only problem: the prices
Everything is delicious and the service is completely on point. All the staff seems to know the ins and outs of every dish to help with questions.
Exceptional dinner, dynamic service with great wine advice.
Great dining experience. We enjoyed 4 plates together. We were at the bar, opposite the kitchen. Experience to relive! Parking: Most with sticker.
We came with high expectations, as fans of Martin Picard in Master Chef Quebec. Having made our reservation almost a month in advance, I was surprised when I arrived to find that they did not have a table for us. I had to insist to make sure we would get the next available table, as that didnt seem to be their plan when they seated us at the bar. We ordered the oyster and duck tartare starters, both very delicious, although the oyster portion could have included one more oyster for the price. Overall, 4/5 for the starters. For the main course, we ordered a Plogue and Quenelles. The Plogue we received was burnt, and the burnt taste completely overshadowed the flavors. We sent her back. The chef kindly made another Plogue and took it off the bill, but this second one was lukewarm. The foie gras was at room temperature, there was way too much sauce (more than the first one), and the portion seemed smaller. I would not recommend this dish. 2/5 for the Plogue. The Quenelles, on the other hand, were delicious. What a wonderful flavor, what a wonderful texture. A nice balance was achieved in this dish, but it was unfortunately ruined by the sandy mussels. There were only 6 or 7 mussels in the sauce, but each of them had this unpleasant texture of sand or shell fragments. Despite this, a very good dish, thanks to the flavors present. 4/5 Finally, my partner and I each ordered two beers. The restaurant was out of glasses, so our second beers were served in much smaller glasses. We were assured that these little glasses would be refilled free of charge. We did get the refills, but on the bill we were charged a total of 5 pints. Considering that the Plogue was offered to us, I didnt want to make a fuss. The only reason Im not giving the service 5 stars is that one of the servers was constantly refilling our glasses with water, to the point where it became uncomfortable. I took a single sip, and he was already there, invading our space to fill a nearly full glass. Overall, 3.5 stars.
Food was soooooo good. Unusual creativity. Just perfect Food : 5/5
We ordered the seafood plate and canned duck, the food was very good and delicious, the best duck food you can eat is here.
Thanks to Gabriel, excellent service and the whole brigade, excellent food
My favorite restaurant!
This restaurant is iconic for a reason. If you love foie gras, you must go. Must eat appetizers: foie gras poutine and ploque a Champlain which is rich a mix of textures and flavour explosion. Crispy buckwheat pancake with a thick slab of smoked bacon, cheddar, huge piece of foie gras topped with a maple Demi glaze. For dinner, we had the dishes that au pied de Cochon is known for: aged pork chop and duck in a can. Traditionally French, flavourful and perfectly executed. The only thing better than the food was the warm, friendly, and very attentive service. Thanks Melina! Our only disappointment was not having room for dessert. We will definitely return the next time we are in Montreal!
Lively atmosphere with great food.
we were 6, with a baby and were seated outside which was great! tried almost all appetizers and everything was very creative and tasty. only two desserts - profiteroles and dolce de leche.... wonderful! highly recommended..... it was my birthday so we did pick an expensive wine: the vintage of the one tat arrived was incorrect but the one we got was better than what we picked
A class apart. The service is exceptional, the food and the experience are unforgettable. Absolutely worth visiting at least once in your life.
A heartfelt thank you to Alex, Sous Chef James (I hope this name is correct. It was loud. He s from Saskatchewan. Makes a mean salt and maple sugar pomme frite) and the entire team. We had a fantastic evening at Au Pied de Cochon last night, due largely in part to their warmth and hospitality. **Sit at the bar if you dine here**. Watching this team work their tails off to serve us impeccably presented dishes elevated the experience in a way sitting at table wouldn t deliver and we greatly appreciated the front row seat and the time they took to interact with us. We enjoyed the foie gras nigiri, the infamous duck in a can, and the salt and maple sugar pomme frites. The restaurant boasts a great wine selection as well. Definitely order a side of the sourdough bread if you try the duck in a can to mop up all of the delicious sauce. The shots of jalapeño vodka and St-Germain proved to be a delightful surprise. Were contemplating a return visit to try the poutine, which stands apart from all the other poutine in Montreal in that the gravy is enhanced with fat from the foie gras. Thanks again, chefs.
The food and service are great as always. Disappointed that the menu is smaller than before. Kid-friendliness: Not suitable for young children.
Wow! Came here with some friends on a recommendation from their friend in London. Did not disappoint! Menu is filled with decadent options, including fois gras poutine and duck in a can (it sounds gimmicky but is some of the best duck I ve ever had!). Unfortunately they don t sell the duck in can to go . Would absolutely come back.
This was truly one of the most remarkable dining experiences I ve ever had! The tuna, freshly caught, was absolutely melt-in-your-mouth delicious, bursting with flavor. The foie gras parfait was a delightful treat that I doubt I ll ever replicate. And the duck sashimi? Oh my goodness, it was unbelievably good! As for the shepherd s pie, trust me when I say you ve never had one like this before so creamy and packed with incredible flavors. The restaurant is vibrant and bustling, with a lively atmosphere that can get quite loud, and the space is cozy. It runs like a well-oiled machine. We were seated at the bar overlooking the open kitchen, where the chef was truly impressive. She managed food prep, training, and everything seamlessly and calmly, which was amazing to witness. What an exceptional experience overall! I highly recommend this place if you don t mind the noise and the organized chaos. I rated the atmosphere a 4 due only due to the noise level and close quarters but I was conflicted because these things are also part of the charm, it was a fantastic experience! We will definitely go back.
Everything is possible and everything is perfect Parking: Less than 1 kilometer
Came here for our anniversary dinner while visiting from New Hampshire.I was definitely excited to try this place as everything we have eaten in Montreal has been phenomenal. Well the good eats stopped here.First the waiter was like Woody Harrelson on crack,it took a long time for my husband to get his drink order, the maple peanutbutter rice is yummy but an absolute joke in size and not worth more than 5usa dollars. We were going to order the duck in a can and thankfully I chose not to want to pay $68 for meat in a can we chose the meat in the clay pot for 2,as it was tasty some of the pieces of meat were very fatty or just a bone with no meat and a peice of sweet bread that looked like An American hamburger bun,it was actually laughable. We didnt bother with dessert as we got some at the metro station pastry shop that was absolutely amazing btw.Sherbrooke Metro to be exact,it was so good we went their the morning after for pastry and coffee and to our surprise they have Duck in a can for 39.99 and the owner of the metro pastry shop told us it is a high quality product he has imported from France. So we bought it from him and took it home.I also want to go back to the restaurant atmosphere, that was the worst part for me,it was like a chaotic mess, loud and not a relaxing atmosphere. As we left our hotel the morning after this ridiculous dinner we told the locals that run the hotel about this restaurant and they said they would never recommend that restaurant. TAKE IT FROM ME,NOT WORTH THE TIME OR MONEY,RUN!!!!!!!
Great moment with my father for his birthday. Everything was perfect. Thanks to the team in the dining room and in the kitchen.
The food is way overpriced.
What an incredible dinner! Our waiter was an absolute delight, answering all of my questions (there were a lot) and making on-point recommendations. The chef-caught tuna sashimi was one of the best things Ive ever eaten. So many fancy touches, but in such a casual atmosphere. I wish I lived close enough to go frequently and work my way through the whole menu.
Our first visit- outstanding dining experience! We sat at the bar where the dynamic chefs kept us entertained just by doing their jobs. Great cocktails and wines by the glass. Decadent and stunning plates- we especially loved the Shepherd s Pie. Will return every time we visit Montreal.
Delicious food, top wine advice, and friendly service. What fun!
The service was excellent, our server Annabelle was the sweetest. We had a scallop starter that was amazing and my husband had the tuna which was a special. I had the stuffed duck leg and it was very salty. 2 out of 3 were excellent, but we had a great time and would return. Great time and great energy.
Amazing experience! Vino, frois gois, duck and of course pork were all perfect.
Absolutely outstanding! Jo, the bartender recommended several dishes that were simply as good as food gets, the duck maki cone was a very light and fresh start. Any of the cocktails will go down nicely, you cant go wrong. But as if that werent enough, the star of the show was the Pdc dinner, like a very balanced and complex mac and cheese with fresh pasta, foie gras and lardons. You pair this with a blanche and you might as well be in heaven. Jo then surprised me with a dessert that easily could have been another main, more foie gras with buckwheat pancake, bacon, cheese and maple syrup?! This is what all dessert aspires to be. Do yourself a massive favor and see for yourself. I will be returning every chance I get. Lifelong customer!
Very good advice from Guillaume for our dinner
From the second you enter the restaurant you are greeted by a friendly staff that seem to genuinely enjoy working at the restaurant. Our server, Gabrielle, was absolutely amazing and she was genuinely cheerful and described the menu beautifully. I went with the foie gras poutine and duck in a can and I learned that I love foie gras. The poutine was by far the best Ive ever had amd the duck and foie gras was just amazing and had so many amazing flavors. I love this place and its staff and would suggest to anyone to try it out!.
We came to Montreal for the first time and this place was a highlight. From the starters to the main course was immaculate. We loved watching the chef and all the detail him and the others put into their food art was amazing and some of the best food we have had. We loved the recommendations we were provided and watching from the counter as they prepared each meal with quality. Would definitely recommend to others.
Been there several times over the last years and this place never fails. The food is great, the service is excellent and the staff is always friendly. A must try at least ounce.
I loved it, it s really delicious
The food was amazing - every dish imaginative, complex, and bursting with flavor. My buddy and I sat at the bar. The bartender plied us with drinks and was hilarious company, as was the waiter. (I strongly recommend sitting either at the bar, or at the counter facing the kitchen -- watching the chefs is blast. The atmosphere is loud and boisterous with conversation and laughter. Go hungry and over-order, and prepare to roll out dangerously overstuffed -- its the only way to fully appreciate the genius of this place.
the dishes were amazing, from appetizer to dessert. excellent service and lively atmosphere. highly recommend.
We were at the bar. What an experience! To see the cooks at work. Efficient and happy to be there. We even attended the service of a pigs head.
Its quite an experience to live
Everything was delicious, service and sublime terrace
Very disappointed with the server Gabriel, I think he is not in the right field. His colleague told us that he was not spinning. My boyfriend bought him 3 shots and left him a 20% tip. When he left the table with the machine, I heard him cr .. from Quebec I called him back and he told me everything is beautiful with a very cold attitude, but we left without having taken the digestive and the caramel fondant that we paid for so much that it took away our appetite I didnt want to denigrate the restaurant because a big WoW on the food and had to chat with a cook before opening and he gave us better advice than our server. I dont think Ill repeat the experience despite the very good food.
We were there for a birthday. The meal in general was very good. Disappointment for the foie gras poutine which was more of a fried sauce because we had 2 pieces of cheese curds on the whole poutine. Our server offered us an extra cone of duck tartare because normally there are only 2 and there were 3 of us. He told us that he was happy to offer it to us because otherwise it is difficult to share. I thought it was super thoughtful. On the other hand, in the end we were charged for the extra cone (which we had never asked for). Also, on two occasions, a waiter dropped dirty utensils on me while clearing the table. Once is ok but twice is not what you expect in this type of restaurant. So in the end, we were disappointed with our experience.
If you love meat but are tired of the barbequeue and steakhouse tropes, this is it. Duck in a can is a must, recommend any of the pork dishes. Was hoping the foie gras dumplings would be on the menu but it wasnt. Fantastic cocktails, recommend the moji-pho if you like spice. Our server was great, we asked to be seated outside but got moved inside once it got cold. Limited dessert selection if you dont like maple, but still very good.
Always on top, inventive and gourmet menu; gargantuan portions. Affable and fast service. Great atmosphere. Nothing to say, it s perfect thank you foot gang
The service was poorly managed between the 2 enters. To tell the truth, we forgot a starter because the starter arrived 2 minutes before the main meal. What can I say about the server? He took himself for another haughty attitude, we want to order 3 main meals even if there were 2 of us. He told us 2 meals you are going to have a lot of them. While people are eating and who decides to wash the ceilings, its not very good. The big boss should manage the world on television; he should manage his personal affairs; he would have his hands full. If you want to communicate with me you have my phone because I had reserved
Great food and service, but a really strange atmosphere for this type of restaurant. Loud 90s rock being played is definitely a vibe, but not for a $150pp+ dinner. Super cramped seating as well, chairs way too big for the space makes it claustrophobic. Very rich food, which is tasty. Chef definitely knows french flavours but I wouldnt call any dish life changing. Enjoyed our dinner but wouldnt rush back. Maybe we hyped it up too much.
Excellent food and very attentive service. It has been a very long time since I went to a restaurant and had zero complaints, this place was perfect. Highly recommend, but reserve in advance. Food
Parking: One of the best restaurant in Montreal Food
everything was perfect we will come back with great pleasure
Gourmet cuisine and so tasty. A Quebecois pleasure of decadent gastronomy! An unmissable experience in a friendly atmosphere thanks to the staff. Well done and thank you!
We were late from our booking but they were very accommodating. The food was exceptional! The foie gras nigiri was simply superb! Would surely come back and highly recommend!
Marvelous. From the poutine to the shepherds pie to the wine, wow. Let the pictures aside, we did not care to take many. Enjoy the experience! Kid-friendliness: There was several kids around. This place is very kid friendly.
A phenonmenal restaurant, that both executes and expands on everything that is quintessential to Canadian-Quebecois dining. Plenty of restaurants use their fame as a crutch to excuse a drop in standards, but not PDC. The restaurant remains as good as ever, while still pushing boundaries with frequent specials/menu changes. The atmosphere is excellent and the service is top notch(although they were a bit short staffed the night I went). A must try if visiting MTL or a local craving some decadence...
Unbelievable cuisine, excellent food, unparalleled service
The place is warm and friendly. The food is fantastic. It is a little bit noisy but great for parties.
As soon as we arrived, a charming hostess took care of us, we had requested Bar for our evening, we were placed right in front of Maya, a machine, a rock, very focused on her task and the smooth running of her team, no plate passes if it does not judge that it is worth the cost, presentation and taste are judged. Despite her hard and arduous work, she answered all our questions with kindness and a smile before returning to her bubble. Impressive . And what can we say about Alexandre sommelier and incredible host, a boys sweetheart he had our evening in his hands I was celebrating my fiftieth that same evening, everything he offered us as a meal we took in the order that he decided, and believe me, no regrets. Only pleasure, in the mouth and in the atmosphere. He offered us a shooter for my birthday, a nice surprise and much appreciated. I am seduced from A to Z as is my partner. Each employee communicates well, answers our questions, explains each dish and greets us as we pass. A place to discover and then visit. Thank you a thousand times to everyone
Service and food are so exceptional that we returned to Montreal just to go back.
There were 8 of us and several were disappointed, firstly what was supposed to be lamb was so tough, it took a good knife and it really didnt taste like lamb. The famous shepherds pie which in our opinion was not worth it given the high price of the meal. The first bite I couldnt chew the meat, it was so crunchy that I had to take it out of my mouth and the second it was big chunks of fat. Almost no one touched it, not a success . Now the famous apple pie, none of us was able to cut the crust and the fat on the pie . There was one person who loved the trout, he almost ate both dishes by himself. The carrot cake was very greasy with the cheese on each layer. Sometimes by trying to do too much it ends up not always being good. We went and there will be no next time for us, be sure of it. Parking: It was a lot of places
We loved the atmosphere of this restaurant, the lovely staff and we had a great time. Everything to have a great time.
Extraordinary experience, everything is perfect, food and service, the only downside is that you have to book in advance. Dietary restrictions: The waiter asks if we have any allergies
Still a wonderful restaurant and a temple to Quebecois food ways and gourmandie
Amazing welcoming atmosphere and food was good as a hot air balloon. The sweet bread and foie Gras poutine were awesome
Au Pied de Cochon lived up to expectations and it was a great experience. Another thing to check off the bucket list !
We were in Montreal on a family vacation and knew we wanted to eat at PDC having been to the PDC Sugar Shack years ago and loved it. We didn t plan a head and could only get a reservation for 10pm which none of us were happy about but we made it and planned to stop by the restaurant a couple of days before the reservation to see if we could get something earlier. The hostess was very kind, and did her best to find an alternative. There was nothing available so she gave us some advice on how to make it happen on the night of our reservation. We ended up having a really lovely dinner at a reasonable time on the patio in perfect weather. The servers were all kind and everything was delicious not light but incredibly tasty. My favorite dish may have been the halibut, uncharacteristically light for PDC but filled with flavor. The dessert was good but very sweet and could have used a scoop of ice cream
Unforgettable evening but not in a good way... Arriving at the restaurant we stood for a good 15 minutes despite our reservation and the restaurants request to arrive a little in advance... once seated we found ourselves surrounded people screaming (never heard of before). The dishes ordered were good with the exception of the poutine with lobster bisque with its meat juice... strange mixture of land and sea... Our gaze fell on the waitress who carefully poured out a can of food. of duck on a plate whose exorbitant price did not let us predict such a scene. In short, a huge tourist trap to avoid. We still dont understand all the hype and publicity around this restaurant.
I really wanted to love this restaurant but they were a complete disappointment. Too many red flag to give it another try. Nearly an hour to serve the appetizer of scallops and fois gras poutine. These are things that are quick to make . The poutine wasn t hot. Tasted good tho. Duck in a can is over rated and way over priced. Meat was tough. Shepherd s pie. Pork shank was nice but the beef cheek was tough. Lacked flavour considering all the great ingredients. Waiter and manager were nice and apologized for the wait and offered a free dessert. Didn t take them up on it as it was getting late and just wanted to get back to my hotel to sleep. They advised their kitchen was backed up but they were not completely full & this is what killed the atmosphere for me: Atmosphere wise, just didn t feel welcoming with guests around me being seated after me but they got their food first. The table beside me ordered duck in a can as well, got there dish before me, sent it back for being too cold and got their replacement before I got my dish. I ordered my meal at the first opportunity as well, so don t understand why I received this treatment. Parking: No close parking
We came to this place with high expectations based on their reviews. We arrived 15 mins before our reservation. We were seated and order was taken pretty quickly. We ordered apps + shareable mains. Our scallops and poutine didn t arrive until almost an hour later. The gravy on the poutine was room temperature. You can tell it s been sitting there. It was a busy night so we thought we let it go. It took another hour later before our mains actually came. Even the sour dough bread we ordered took an hour. In total it was 2 hours before we actually got our mains. What was disappointing was 2 tables who were seated after us got their meals before us, even the bread! Not sure if it s a coincidence but it felt like the white clienteles were priority served. I had to ask why it s taking so long before we got some urgency. They tried offering more wine and dessert complimentary. What s the point. For a premium restaurant I expected way more. Being a visitor to Montreal with limited vacation time, I wish I took my business elsewhere. The food when it came wasn t even that great.
Good food in a nice restaurant is expected. Perhaps we even take it for granted. Infrequently you are absorbed by the whole experience, from the welcome greeting, the atmosphere, all the way to the conversations - before your tastebuds are awaken! The team of professionals from the front of house to the kitchen staff is just exceptional. Then came the food: the poutine with lobster gravy and the shrimps - we jumped on to that offering as their special, before we even looked at the menu. We had the foie gras nigiri - don t judge me - I am well aware of the animal welfare arguments and I would normally abstain from it. However the concept of peanut butter and foie gras with nigiri rice was so out there, I just fell victim to the intrigue. It did exactly that. I was knocked out of the park, the city, the planet! Who would have thought?!! I live in the UK and we refer to the humble shepherds pie - but let s just say there is nothing humble about this shepherds pie! The beef cheeks, pork neck and the ground pork (or minced if you are a Brit), in a rich sauce, covered by a cheesy infused mash potato topping - served with a homemade ketchup that cuts through the gravy - I can only say - OMG! The best thing is the portions are not nouveau! That s just not my thing. The experience was enhanced because of the team - Alex, Annabelle and Omar! It isn t cheap, but it s an experience that will last a lifetime. Bon appétit!
Everything excellent
I was lucky to get a table here during my stay in Montreal, and I was alone, so I had all the time in the world to savour the food, wine and atmosphere. And what an atmosphere that was - seated a the bar right in front of the open kitchen, pure organised chaos (think The Bear ) Super attentive servers, friendly and chatty, neither my water or wine glass were ever empty. I took the sweetbreads, shepherds pie and pouding chômeur, along with wine chosen by the waiter, the dessert in particular was astonishingly good Next time I ll try the poutine as is looked really good
Amazing culinary experience. The exceptional presentation of each dish and the varied flavors make each dish a delight for both sight and taste. The atmosphere is electrifying and nothing to say about the staff. Present but just enough. The coordination and service are respectful of our tasting speed. For those who love flavors, this is undoubtedly a restaurant that I recommend.
No visit to Montreal is worth it without dining here. Inventive dishes with a local regional heart. Indulge. Parking: Easy to find meters on St Denis
Wonderful experience. Great food and phenomenal staff. A fun time to experience traditional Quebec cuisine. Recommended highly by a chef at Aura in Camp Hill Pennsylvania. Thank you for the recommendation.
Amazing food. Not so amazing service. Very, very noisy restaurant.
My boyfriend took me here for my birthday dinner and just wow. We ve been to our fair share of Montreal fine dining, and this was my favorite experience I ve had yet. Both the food and atmosphere were incredible, I can t recommend this restaurant enough if you really want to impress your date, or just have a delicious meal full of complexity. It s hard to get a table, but 100% worth it. I can t wait to be back. Now for the details Our waiter was fantastic in recommending which dishes to get. For appetizer, we tried their special of the night, which was uni, as well as duck tartare. The presentation/mode of delivery of both was phenomenal! The duck tartare was served in a nori wrap cone and had a quail egg yolk we got to pour in ourselves! The uni came in its shell and had a delicious, creamy sauce that was full of complexity. Then we split a creamy corn chanterelle (another special) and the pork shank, per our servers recommendation. I ve never had pork this tender falling off the bone before! I was very impressed. As for the corn, it was one of the best dishes I ve ordered at any Montreal restaurant, period. Which makes sense because we re deep into corn and chanterelle season, and you could tell they were both super fresh. I was a little worried that sharing only one main wouldn t be enough, but the portions are very sizable, especially with appetizers. For dessert, we tried the pouding chômeur with foie gras and cheddar. The savory salty strong flavor of foie gras complemented the sweet caramel so well in a way I was not expecting.
This place! It was everything I hoped it was going to be. The food was KILLER, so much foie gras was consumed! The scallop dish was bursting with fresh flavours! The terrine was perfectly seasoned, and the maple butter was otherworldly with it! Im a sucker for sweetbreads, and these did not disappoint. Not tough, just the right amount of fatty goodness! The pork chop was delicious, there was a very minor issue with the cook on it, which was promptly addressed and fixed! The service was absolutely impeccable!! I think the unexpected star of the show for.me was the guinea fowl ballontine! I found myself.picking up the leg and chewing all the meat off lol The duck tartare was another surprise hit! A first for me, the quail egg was a perfect sauce for this sushi inspired dish. The beignets were delicious little warm puffs of happiness, and the foie gras/white cheddar sticky pudding was unlike anything Ive ever had. Sweet maple, sharp cheddar, and savory foie gras all melded together to make an outstanding and unforgettable dish. I would come back solely for this dish, but I can guarantee it wouldnt be the only one Id order! Thank you for an evening that will not soon be forgotten!
You must order the Duck Temaki, its super good. all other food and service are expected.
Buy a round for the kitchen and service teams - youll get to ring the bell. Enjoy!
Not nearly as fatty as people think. We had some very inventive and refined dishes, served with excellent pairings of wine and beer. The staff is very helpful and friendly.
One of the best restaurants in Montreal - almost an institution. Incredible pork dishes, innovative, delicious. Fun, casual and I intimidating environment with great staff.
Very slow service. We waited more than one hour for our dishes. People that arrives after you might be served first. No explanation. The food is tasteful.
Food eaten:Scallop Rotolo - Great scallop taste with a very smooth creme like texture, Duck Temaki de Canard - perfect combination of crunch from the caramelized onions and smooth umani from the duck tartar, of the 2 appetizers (Rotolo and Temaki) I liked the Temaki best, Mapo Tofu Au Foie Gras - a very good pork stew with udon noodles and Foie Gras, having never had Foie Gras before I was incredibly pleased. Not many foods truly embody the melt in your mouth experience but this dish definitely did and the pork stew was very well balanced with a little bite/spice and the thick udon noodles.
Best restaurant ever. If Im in Canada again I would go back to this restaurant. Service was slow but worth every minute. The pig feet is the best I ever had.
We had a great experience Parking: You can park on Rachel Street Food : 5/5 |
Just perfect! In everything!
First time visit for us was not a disappointment. Every dish was lights out delicious. Sitting at the bar was a stellar experience getting to watch the chefs excelling at their craft. Service was also top notch as staff was accommodating and personable. Compliments to the entire staff at Au Pied de Cochon! We ordered scallops rotolo, duck in a can, pork chop and lava cake. All fantastic dishes.
Excellent. Such a lovely welcome, friendly and friendly service. Excellent food Truly a great dining experience Well done
Excellent meal, the gastronomy was excellent Parking: It was abominable to manage to find parking.
Always excellent, always pleasant, thanks to the great PDC gang!
Amazon Amazon Amazing experience. Its a must if you are in Montreal.
What about this place? It was a wonderful surprise.. I knew that Phill would not disappoint me.. the best poutine I ate in Quebec with an incredible foie gras sauce then very good pork shank, but the thing that obviously surprised me the most was It was their Canard, which is the flagship dish and is cooked and served in a very particular way... intense flavors that really left their mark. We also had hot sourdough bread served with delicious butter and special mention margarita with cucumber juice..If I were to return to Montreal I would go back immediately!
We came mainly for Pork and foie gras. Everything was beyond our expectations. Servers were all very attentive. Chefs worked so hard and even interacted with customers occasionally. Respect and kudos to one of the most solid teams we ve ever seen! (P.S: you may want to reserve enough time on the road if you are traveling by car. We spent too much time on finding a parking spot and arrived 20 minutes late. Otherwise we would definitely want to try a dessert!)
The food was too saucy..simple is better..not impressed with the menu or the combination of food flavors..will never return...place very run down and not worth the hype
Sat down at 5pm. Left at 8:15pm. We didn t order anything crazy, just two apps, one foie gras, two mains, one dessert, and somehow that took 3 plus hours. The food was fine. Nothing spectacular. Luckily the prices weren t exorbitant since the flavors really weren t very special or defined. Overall it was not worth the time more than the money. The service was sloppy and unprofessional, lots of reaching over the table and elbows all over.
The only problem is that the volume of the music is too high even if the choice of music is excellent.
Loved this restaurant. We sat at the bar & got a first hand view of how well these amazing chefs & helpers create this incredible food. Cant wait to tell my friends. Food : 5/5
love this restaurant. great food. great staff. would visit again and again. had the pork chop and the braised oyster. both were remarkable.
Poutine amazing, sliced rare aged pork medallions a catastrophe (almost raw sliced pork, sinewy, tasted and appeared wrong). Also, pork+tomato+tuna entree thoroughly overcooked though told it would be served rare. Service was agonizingly slow, almost painful.
Excellent food, great service and a wonderful street side seating with live music
Food is superb, thats all there is to it.
Better food and service than most Michelin star restaurants.
Emile, impeccable service as always and what can we say about the warm Chef Michael who treats his products with perfection
Excited to score a counter reservation here on our first night in Montreal and we were not disappointed! Theres a real buzz and energy to the place and staff are super-friendly. There were so many specials on offer that it was difficult to remember them all; a blackboard or printed slip of paper would have been helpful. Sitting at the counter was fun but our seats did keep getting knocked by both guests and staff so be prepared for this if you sit here! Food was outstanding, particularly the foie gras profiteroles and aged pork chop. A couple of dishes surprised us by not being what wed expected from the menu description, for example a scallops dish in fact being a kind of mousse. We were pleasantly surprised at what good value the meal was for such high-quality cooking.
For over a decade, I have dreamed of Au Pied de Cochon. I was so glad to enjoy a meal there with someone I love. Turns out, 100g of foie might be a bit too rich for my blood, but in the house that tried to kill Bourdain with the stuff, it felt apropos. Everything we ate was just perfectly executed. The service was seamless. If a restaurant can be a hero, I m happy to have finally met one of mine in Montreal.
A must visit in Montreal if you like foie gras! We had it in many forms when we visited. Individual pieces on sushi rice (aka foie gras nigiri), foie gras poutine, foie gras mapo tofu, and foie gras with the duck in a can! All were good but in particular the foie gras nigiri was the standout followed by the poutine.
An unforgettable culinary experience. The dishes are simply divine, combining delicate flavors and high quality products. Each bite is a taste journey, prepared with care and creativity. The service is impeccable, attentive without being intrusive, and the staff is passionate and smiling. Its the perfect place to spend an exceptional moment as a couple!
Im torn because this is some of the best food I have ever had in my life. The only problem is everything else such as the service and atmosphere was really, really, bad. Starting off with the good, the food here was amazing. Every single dish that we ordered blew our minds off. Im not sure if they change their menu but I highly recommend the sweetbread, duck temaki, plogue a champlain, pork shank, and the salt and maple sugar fries. It was my second time having sweetbread and this was sooooo delicious. The duck temaki was the perfect ratio of rice and other ingredients. I loved the uniqueness of pouring your own yolk out of a small quail egg. The plogue a champlain came with a huge serving of foie gras and was amazing. I had nothing bad to say about any of the food we ate today. Definitely the best food we have had in Montreal so far! This is why it was so disappointing that I could not say the same about the service and restaurant itself. First, the tables at the back are super crammed. I could not get into my seat because the guy at the table besides me was literally touching my chair. Another patron saw me struggling and him and his wife moved my table forward for me just so I could sit down! Then when my mom sat in her chair, the lady at the table behind her came back from the washroom and couldnt get into her seat! She ranted something in French which Im assuming wasnt positive about the tight space situation. When we first sat down we were greeted by a really nice server who was helpful and gave us great food suggestions. But then he rarely came back to check on us. I wanted to tell him how amazing the food was except, he never asked once we finished our courses! When I turned around I saw him bartending at the bar, so maybe he was both the server and bartender for the night? Maybe the restaurant was short staffed? I dont know, but the service was disappointing. So yes, my wine glass sat empty on the table and no one bothered to ask me if I would like another drink. When we finished our pitcher of water, another server took it away but didnt bring us a new one. When our water glasses sat empty for some time, I finally asked someone for another pitcher of water. And then, the strangest thing happened during the middle of dinner, where a guy took a Swiffer duster and started dusting the vents on top of everyones heads while we were eating!! Me and a girl at the table across from me gave eachother a what the F look because we were bewildered they would not wait until later to do this? And I dont know why, but they kept trying to serve us other peoples food!! Lol! This one poor guy brought us three dishes that werent ours. So this is why Im torn. I would absolutely die for the food here but I just wish the service was better.
The quality and richness of the taste of the food was really there. We were just disappointed because we were hungry, the quantities were too small for us especially considering the price. Bread and butter or an appetizer at the beginning would have helped.. A little more bread or accompaniments with certain dishes. The size of the poutine was disappointing although the taste was incredible. Nice experience in the end but we are a little dissatisfied because of the quantities.
This was our second time dining here, and the first time bringing our seven-month old. The staff were incredibly accommodating, and the food was excellent (as always).
Fantastic dishes after dishes. They were all good but my most fave was this duck with quail egg hand roll
After arriving 5 minutes before our reservation, we had to wait almost an hour outside at a fairly cold temperature after being told in 10 minutes it will be ready. We then make a mistake in our order. We were refused 3 different wines since they were no longer available (always going from a more expensive recommendation). The disappointing-looking dishes were OK but nothing more, certainly not for the price or the wait. The sweet and dirty fries quickly fall on our hearts and we are unable to finish a simple cone. The homemade mayonnaise served with it doesnt help with the disconcerting bitterness. The foie gras is simply disappointing. The pork is undercooked. We were each offered a cocktail on the house, but of course we preferred to have a reduction on the final bill. We were offered a dessert, also disappointing, but we appreciate the intention
Delicious food and outstanding service. We had the plague a Champlain, Sheppard s pie, pork chop and food poutine - all absolutely delicious. We were looking forward to eating the classic pig s feet dish that gives name to the restaurant, unfortunately we learned it is part of the autumn/winter menu and since it was summer we missed it. We ll have to return later in the year for it! Kid-friendliness: We brought our 4y old son who eats well so he ate a bit of what we ordered plus a portion of fries and sourdough, since there s no kid s menu (not complaining just a heads up)
