479 Saint Alexis St, Montreal, Quebec H2Y 2N7, Canada
L’Orignal is known for fresh delicious Oysters, Seafood, Meat, and Local produce. Family run business since 2008.
Had a wonderful meal here with my wife and three children. The atmosphere is super cool and cozy. The oysters were amazing and Michael the owner showed my girls how he shucked the which was a big hit with them. The steaks were amazing and overall it was an excellent experience. The next time we travel from New Jersey to Montreal, we will definitely be back. Thanks for a wonderful meal!
Very good food in a cozy, homey setting. Would definitely recommend reservations. We didn't have any and were told we could have a table if we were able to finish in a little over an hour. Since the food took a bit to get we ended up skipping dessert and any extra drinks to try to honour that (and because the hostess was clearly anxious for us to head out and handed the waitress our check immediately after we finished our entrees) We had the bone marrow, schnitzel, and lemon risotto. My husband liked his schnitzel but said he preferred the risotto overall. The Moscow moose is really good too. If we are ever back in the area we'd consider stopping again for the friendly service and tasty food.
Apparently I got pictures of the decor and not the food. This was a great spot around Old Montreal. My husband was obsessed with the marrow. I loved the tagliatelle. The beef tartar is hard to rate because it just wasn't to my taste, but may be to others. It needed some crunch and had a lot on it. The oysters were excellent.
We are in Montreal on vacation and we were looking for the best poutine. After reading some reviews we gave this a shot. It was absolutely phenomenal. I have had many poutines but never as good as this. The gravy is a truffle gravy with some spice and Smokey flavour. We had the sticky toffee pudding for dessert which also was incredible. The service was top notch and it was a very charming atmosphere. 10/10 recommend!
Delicious, fresh oysters, shucked at the bar by casual, friendly owner. Beef tartar was as good as it gets. The bone marrow lived up to its reputation and was simply outstanding. Reasonably priced wine for the area. Tried some fantastic Canadian wines as well. Regular customers friendly and had great chats at the bar. Outstanding atmosphere with the feel of a place that's under constant care and love. Do not miss this place.
A Canadian French original, hence the name! Very cozy interior, with a simple, rich and mouthwatering menu! Had the smoked Bone Marrow as an app, the Bison Burger & from the daily specials a shepherd pie, to share. Damn! Every single dish so good! I was reluctant about the Bison Burger and it beats some of the best beef burger I’ve had! The shepherds pie, was rich yet light…cheesy 🤤 and DELICIOUS!!! Finally, the Bone Marrow was great very yummy and paired with the right ingredients that cut through the richness.
Our new favourite! Kat and I loved everything from the warm and cozy wood cabin ambiance to the 80s music. The food was incredible, with every mouthful a delight. Service was friendly, accommodating, and attentive. Drinks (cocktails around $15) were excellent. It's quieter before 7:30 and the entrance is a bit off the beaten path (I did not see if there's an alternative, wheelchair-accessible entrance). We walked 9km in the downtown/old Montreal core, looking for a decent place to have dinner, and ironically, this one was just behind our hotel. Like, literally right behind it. We both chose from the daily specials. Kat had the sea bass, which had a parsnip puree and seafood chowder bed. It was fantastic and she loved every bite. I had the duck with pumpkin puree and a fantastic mole sauce. Dessert was an incredible sticky toffee pudding and a mousse that Kat was very cagey about sharing, it was that good. With the two entrees and desserts, a glass of wine and four cocktails, dinner came to a little over CDN$200. Service was perfectly attentive, with water being constantly refilled, empty glasses and plates taken promptly, and friendliness as warm as the ambiance. It's our new must go-to in Montreal.
Food was good but the service was odd. A little pricey for portions and lack of accommodations. *check the bill before paying- Had oysters, beef tartar, kale salad, beef tag, bison burger, salmon special and 2 desserts. Everything was great and tasted as good as could be expected without surprises (good or bad), so pretty straight forward. The beef tartar was a little tough and the bison burger was a little dry. Burger was sent back the first time but 2nd time was much better. Salmon special was great. Desserts were both good but enjoyed the pudding the most. We had a reservation and not sure if it was because we were American or that we had our 2 kids with us but had service reminiscent of a diner in Brooklyn I used to go to. Friendly if you're easy but otherwise rushed and not willing to make any accommodations. We really didnt ask for much and we spent $350 with 4 people, even with 2 kids. The shady part was the extra 2 glasses of wine slipped on the bill. I'll never know for sure if it was an accident or not but it felt like she tried to get one by with how she handled the bill. In conclusion, food was good, pretty cool atmosphere but a little pricey for the overall experience.
Service was great .We had schnitzel. While it was very good I have had better but I would order it again if ever back in the area. I would recommend this rest. Food
A lovely dining experience.
Great vibe great service, food...not so much
Feels like home... Great food...we had kale parmesan salad, bison burger truffle oil fries wi garlic aoli. Leane our server was awesome... the music from the 80 was just right. Food
Went out for dinner everything was amazing! The bone marrow was really good and the service was top notch. Mike the owner and Alyssa, were amazing! Would totally come back again (:
Decent spot. Drinks and food came out quick. Not sure I would spend a ton of time there or eat a lot, just good spot to stop for a drink and grab a bite
Food was just ok. Bone marrow was good and soup of the night. The pasta was not cooked enough and small portion. The broccolini was not cooked enough and crunchy/hard.
Read in full!!!! 100% food Waitress services 100% 100% atmosphere Owners comments when my son started crying (for 1 min) after getting injured 0% My son cried for a maximum of 1 minute after hitting the table, the owner arrived at the same time to serve our plates saying: sorry little dude but there is a lot of customers in here at the moment He then abruptly threw a bag of ice at the table He ruined our experience with this comment and his abrupt gesture . Everything was perfect, our wonderful waitress apologized for him we understood after speaking with her that this is not the first time and that the owner clearly does not like children and lacks a lot of control too Note that we arrived at 5:15 p.m. and left at 6:53 p.m., the bill came to $394.21 . And that our child was calm and zero noisy except for the incident where he slipped and hit his mouth on the table.. So if you go without children you will be very well served but think twice if you bring your little ones!
For our last evening in Montreal we tried this restaurant! At the top, welcome, atmosphere, fine and rather refined cuisine with good advice for wines! (+ for very good Canadian white wine). Super friendly waitress full of good advice you can go there with your eyes closed!
By far the best poutine I ve ever had. The toffee cake was also amazing. Good location, cozy atmosphere, great food. Our waitress Lianne was so friendly and gave us lots of tips about traveling Montréal. We loved this place.
Very cosy restaurant, Nice food but a little bit expensive.
Cannot recommend this place enough. Amazing food (get the Elk steak if they have it) and drinks and atmosphere. Mike is a delight. Sit up at the bar if you can! Planning a whole new trip to Montréal just to eat here again.
Very good experience, the service is great, the atmosphere is really good and the decoration is very typical. The food was good, maybe a little expensive though.
The place is warm, the service is very good. We loved the bison burger, and the fries are super good!
One of the neighborhoods must-sees, both for the quality of the experience and the successful challenge of offering a very Canadian environment with panache.
Very welcoming and relaxed place. The staff was fabulous and the food was absolutely incredible! Go!!! Eat!!
Excellent food. Try the truffle poutine and steak.
An exceptional meal, of quality (and good quantities), combined with a great atmosphere, excellent explanations and advice. The welcome was just as pleasant. Go there with your eyes closed!
I regret to say that my dining experience at this restaurant was very unpleasant and disappointing. Dining alone, I initially ordered a glass of expensive champagne, which unfortunately lacked effervescence, suggesting the bottle had been open for some time. The attentive waitress remedied this by topping up my glass with champagne from a new bottle. The entrée, a salad, was ok; however, the main course was where things took a turn for the worse. I had chosen the halibut special, which, to my surprise, came with caviar a detail I had misunderstood as being optional. Upon raising this issue, the dish was taken away, the caviar removed, and then promptly returned without any explanation. An interaction with the hostess further marred the evening; her response to my confusion was both patronizing and dismissive, attributing the misunderstanding to my English proficiency and unjustly insinuating that I was being cheap. This was not only rude but also discriminatory. The halibut was overcooked. I expressed my dissatisfaction when requesting the check, yet no apology was forthcoming. They did offer to comp my meal, but the gesture felt insincere, and I declined. There was no acknowledgment of their unprofessional behavior. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend this establishment.
Nice rustic traditional decor. Great attentive service. Decent wine selection and nice cocktails. Food though was mixed. The pork schnitzel was good but unseasoned and only came with a base of mashed potatoes. The braised beef tagliatelle was very tasty but was a starter portion. Should have been double the size for a main.
An unbelievable eating experience from start to finish. The Obi King Salmon was absolutely brilliant. Be sure to get the sticky toffee with ice cream for dessert!
My favourite spot to grab a cozy dinner in the old port!
The food was fabulous and the atmosphere is very unique. 10/10
Cozy athmosphere and delicious food! The braised beef pasta, truffle poutine, and sticky toffee dessert were my favourites. Great service too!
Amazing vibe here. Food was fabulous and the service was topnotch 10/10
Bison burger was absolutely delicious. Got the added truffle routine which was also great.
Too bad I finished all the food before I even got to write the review!!!! Food was great! The bartender was awesome! The service was top-notch. Well definitely come back again!! Always ask them for special/catch of the day. They are always a hit!
Romantic meal, just after my arrival from France. Small table set back, great musical atmosphere and decoration, attentive service, very good advice on food and wine. The bison burger was excellent with poutine! Reasonable price. We had a great time, thank you! Recommended!
Great night with a group.of 25 people. Service was on point and the dishes were delicious. Just book your event and they care of everything else. Fantastic!
Im too full to type.... Ugh... So good! Edit: Revised after a long while and it was even better. These guys know what theyre doing. Food : 5/5
Staff who listen to their customers
Good food, great drinks, wonderful owner and staff! Great experience.
We showed up on a Saturday night with no reservations and we were seated at the bar. Best move, we had such a great experience! The food was very good the service was beyond. We would absolutely go back for the service and atmosphere alone! Thank you for the hot shots Mike!!
Romantic restaurant, we often go there with my husband! The food is excellent too
Once again, a very nice discovery. Well received, we eat divinely well, very pleasantly surprised
This was by far the best meal I ve had in Montreal in my several times visiting the city. The ambiance of this restaurant is so cozy and warm that it makes you feel like you re enjoying your meal in a quaint cabin. The food is homey, fresh and delicious. I will absolutely be returning when I go back to Montreal. If you check this place out, make sure to have the sticky toffee pudding!!
Ive never had a better dining experience. The food. The service. Impeccable. Bravo.
Our dinner here was amazing. We started with the Oysters which were outstanding and very unique, was excited to try some from PEI as we rarely see them in New England. We each had specials for our mains and they were also very good and thoughtfully executed. Service was fantastic! We always try to visit new places when we are in Montreal but it will be hard not to stop back in to LOriginal when we come back next year. Vegetarian options: Limited but clearly marked vegetarian and pescetarian options (and they were very good)
Too bad...we come from France and table canceled 5 days before... For no reason, so we wont be able to celebrate our fathers birthday. In short, 1 well deserved star!!
Excellent restaurant in Montreal, every time we went to eat, everything was very good from the meal to the service! The unmissable aged beef entrecôte is a must-try!
We had a wonderful night here! The food and service were excellent with staff going above and beyond to make an incredible evening!
Fantastic meal, good energy, and warm, friendly service.
Great little place in downtown Montreal, definitely to try.
I am so happy we went here! I got their risotto with fish and it was absolutely wonderful. Their soup was delicious too. Very friendly and efficient service as well!
Fantastic welcome, fresh produce. Ideal for receiving our foreign customers. Inspired cuisine.
Wonderful place for foodies, perfect food, ambiance, and service. Highly recommend if you are looking for something intimate!
Portions are insanely small. I had an appetizer and meal and left still hungry.
This place is a great little gem. Just go. You will not Be disappointed. We sat at the bar and were served by Michael. Oysters were amazing. He shucks them right in front of you. Highly recommend the maple old fashioned and espresso martini but everything he made looked great. Atmosphere is cozy Quebec rustic cabin vibes. Great food & service. Thank you Michael. We will be back Trevor & Tessa
Excellent dining
Such an amazing experience, the food is good the wine list is amazing BUT the best thing about this place is the service. People are kind sweet polite and funny which makes the experience like as if you are at family gathering
There is not a single game dish on the menu.
For our father/daughter outing we were charmed by this restaurant! Elisa gave us EXCELLENT service, in addition to recommending 2 excellent wines! The only thing my father didnt like was that there was a lot of fat on the pork he ordered. But otherwise, the flavors were there from starter to dessert $284 for 2 starters, 2 meals, 2 cocktails, 2 WELL-filled glasses of wine, 2 desserts and 2 coffees (we were driving when we left!)
Honestly we were disappointed. A cosy restaurant and good service but the food was average and lacked imagination and flavour. We have been in Montreal for 7 days and eat out in good quality places every night so we have a baseline for above average food, sadly this was not in the above average group.
The steak and oysters were absolutely delicious and the atmosphere is very friendly, quiet and pleasant. Good service too. Much recommended.
A delightful restaurant in the heart of old Montreal.
Amazing venue for events. I had my wedding there and everything was perfect. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the food was exquisite. I cant recommend this place enough!!
Very nice little place, great ambiance and super good service... Food was very good... Little hic, the desert wasnt good at all (appp crumble was very fade and missing that crunchy taste you want to get)... Its also a bit pricey but worth it, espacialy for a date night !
Amazing food in a cozy spot. Everything out table ordered was delicious. Would definitely recommend and go again.
This place is amazing! 10 out of 10! The atmosphere, food and cocktails are all fantastic. We are looking forward to coming back the next tine we are in Montreal. You gotta go!
Good food and atmosphere. A shame one of the staff members was a little rude.
My favorite restaurant! Food is always on point, delicious cocktails, friendly staff and great atmosphere.
I haven t even finished eating and feel compelled to write my review. Food is fantastic and the staff even better. Came here with my 13 month old and I feel like I m at home. A wonderful environment - would come back 100%
The Moose caught our eye. Without a reservation we were accommodated at the bar. Food and drinks were great. Commentary from bar was entraining and fun. Atmosphere warm and cozy, and yes the background music was great. We will be back and will be making reservations ahead of time. Thank you for a nice evening.
Delicious. Good alchemy of flavors. Very pleasant setting, rustic without fuss but with taste.
First time at L Original and we loved it. Staff were very friendly and service was great. The food was spectacular. We started with the oysters and the fennel salad both of which were fabulous. We had the steak and halibut special and both were wonderful. We finished with the sticky toffee pudding which was also good.
Loved the food, vibe and service. We had the bison burger, bone marrow, fish cakes and carrot salad to start, as well as the lobster roll. All the food was fantastic and the staff was great.
Probably the best Caesar drink I ve had Their chicken liver parfait was perfection. The burger and farmers salads were both great. And their sticky toffee was so satisfying. I will definitely go back and order them all again. Great vibe and staff as well. Highly recommended. Recommended dishes
The restaurant handled our group reservation very well. The staff was friendly, the drinks were great, and the food was amazing. I ordered the night s special which was salmon with caviar, and the fish was some of the best I ve ever had. I still think about it.
Great place, great food, great people.
Beef Tagliatelle was so tasty, best comfort dish I ve had in a while. Warm vibes, good music, prompt service. Great experience.
I tried the burger it was pretty good, entree small and a lil pricey (got the fishcake) but good, service was great and the wait was a bit long but nothing too crazy overall not bad
A find worth savoring. Well-crafted cocktails, delicious mains prepared with care, and mouth-watering desserts. So, so good.
Food is very very good, the chef Guillermo impressed us with every meal Service is great. We also got to meet Michael, the owner who was very hands on helping the staff and making great drinks The vibes is cozy and chilled, very good ambiance for dates
We booked at 9:30 We call to arrive at 9:45-10:00 10:08 in the restaurant: the kitchen is closed you cannot eat. Thank you, we discovered fish and bone thanks to you.
My new favourite place in Montreal. Best Poutine I ve had East of the Gatineau river. Amazing staff. Serves beer. Will be back.
A solid overall dining experience, if not impressive. Let me start by saying the food was phenomenal; we got the fish of the day and one of the specials (lamb), both of which had complex flavors and respectable portions. Desserts were a good finish even if what we ordered wasn t what hit the table. Which brings me to service, one area that could ve been improved. Hosting decisions: the restaurant was more than half empty, yet three different couples arriving around the same time were all sat directly next to each other, in such close quarters that we might have been in the same dinner party. Took awhile to be greeted and get our just-average drinks (and refills), got the wrong dessert (at which point I just ate the s more that was staring at me from the bowl). It could ve just been an off night, but at this price point, I don t think it s unreasonable to expect a slightly smoother ride. I would definitely visit again, however; the food makes everything else worthwhile.
Loved the food, the look...it was a wonderful meal.
Very good restaurant, good service, well located and very pretty decor
We had all the specials and dessert, delicious! Our waitress (red hair and freckles) was fantastic.
The food and ambiance here is so good. Service was amazing too. The dishes are inventive, ingredients are the best, very good for foodies. Cocktails are very well done too!
Food was outstanding, the best pork chop Ive ever had. Atmosphere, unique, entertaining, romantic.
AMAZING food, atmosphere, service + music! We loved the special (sweet bread tacos), kale salad, halibut + filet! This is a very SPECIAL, HIDDEN GEM!
We got bone marrow, bison burger, pasta, grilled bison taco platter. All the food was amazing and I highly recommend the bone marrow and the bison burger with poutine. Our server was lovely, great service & proper recommendations. There are specials so make sure to ask about them! Date night atmosphere with high class. I would come again
Lowkey the best oysters in Montreal!! On the other hand, the tartars are really not crazy. The rest is very good. Air conditioning on full blast..
That was fantastic! One of the best meals Ive ever had! I had the braised beef and tagliatelle and my husband had the bison burger with poutine - both were fantastic! Above and beyond. The waitress we had was so friendly and personable and the ambiance was on point! Dim lighting, amazing sound track, etc... I highly recommend date cake with sticky toffee sauce, if was to die for!!!
3 stars because I cant knock the food as that is proper. What I can hit this place on is the disrespectful childish, apparently owner and how he treats his employees. Having perfectly decent conversation with waitress and wine to pair and he shoes her away in a belittling manner. The waitress comes back afterwards eyes to the ground. Multiple other encounters with other employees you can see they walk on egg shells around him. I was going to hand the female waitress a separate tip then I did not see her again. Each employee I saw walk behind him or near him at the bar had a scarred puppy look or like alert ready for something to be wrong type feeling. Money might be good but that guy is a tool. Find a better place to work that isnt INCREDIBLY toxic. He likely has never been punched in the face lol. *TO THE WAITRESS* that took care of us, you helped us at the end of the bar. We ordered the tar tar, pasta and schnitzel I believe which you then served my wife and I in a 3 course manner to share both meals. YOU WERE GREAT. Just know that and know that guy is a tard. I hope you remember and I hope you see this.
After reading many reviews and consulting friends who frequent Montreal, I picked this spot for our 5th wedding anniversary. There were 6 of us for dinner on a busy Saturday night. The restaurant is exactly as described - cozy and chic. Every person we interacted with was lovely and friendly. I value service as much as great food, and we werent let down in either department. I had the bison burger and absolutely loved it. My husband had the schnitzel, and it was moist and extremely generous in its portion. I made a huge mistake by not ordering dessert; I got the last bite of our friends crème brulee cheesecake and it was one of the best things Ive ever eaten in my life. I cant recommend this place enough! Thank you Michael and everyone for an amazing night!!
We had a fantastic dinner consisting of several amaretto sours (delicious) and 3 appetizers - bacalao matesh (evening special), smoked bone marrow and the chicken liver parfait. Absolutely fantastic food. The atmosphere was relaxed and casual, but certainly a place to get dressed up. The wait staff were friendly and welcoming. They were very knowledgeable about the specials and regular menu. We will be back on our next visit to Montreal. Thanks for a great evening! M & L
We had dinner at this real gem in Old Montreal, walking distance from our hotel. The staff are top notch pros. Very friendly and helpful hostess, and the place is cozy and unpretentious, offering fine dining without making one feel out of place in casual attire. The fish cake and scallops were incredible. We also shared the Halibut with quinoa salad - also incredible. The prices were decent in comparison to some of the restaurants rivals and well worth what one gets. Would definitely go back.
I take all my business associates here when in town. They have been open for a long time and theres a damn good reason why. The food knocks it out of the park every time. The atmosphere is great. Lighting... decor smells... its a hit that keeps on hitting. A definite must do on any trip to Montreal. Vegetarian options: You should eat meat. Seriously.
We had a delicious dinner here at L Orignal! Seating is a bit tight, but when we asked for a more private table, we were accommodated which showed great care for their customers. The service staff was excellent and the experience was levelled up even more by the delicious food. Very unique menu with new flavour profiles for us. Highly recommended!
The owner Michael has one hell of an establishment a great guy with a big heart and an awesome staff definitely calling this place home when I come back to Montreal
Absolutely delightful place. Exceptional food, exceptional service, exceptional atmosphere. Id go back in a heartbeat! The truffle poutine was special, the beef medialions were very tender, and the sticky toffee pudding was delish!
Super chilled atmosphere, awesome food, great service. A nice mix of slightly quirky and classical cooking.
One of the best meals Ive ever had. Service and atmosphere were top notch!!
The plates are bigger than the food. Why are the portions so small
Nice wooden atmosphere, top service in a warm setting.
Visited with work colleagues and was very impressed. The service was first class. Didn t get the servers name but was a lovely lady that really coped well with 12 of us early Nov 23. Thank you for a great night. Food was amazing. I shared the steak which was excellent. The overall ambience of the place really made the evening.
Warm atmosphere. Very pleasant service and attentive. Accommodating of English and friendly service, also delicious bison burger would recommend. Very good!
Amazing restaurant in Montreal! The atmosphere is laid back and the food is simply delicious! All farm to table, the food was sooo good that I can t wait to go back to Montreal! I am dreaming of the shrimp in garlic butter! And the French fries with aioli I can t take my mind off this food!
Sat at the bar and got chatting to the owner as he opened oysters. His attention to detail and quality was evident and is reflected in the excellent food and drink served here. I will be coming back.
Good food good service A+ a must when visiting Mtl
This place is a total gem! Had a wonderful dinner at LOrignal with my partner recently while visiting Old Montreal. Fantastic meal (everything was delicious), very reasonable price-points, attentive & personalized service by one of the owners. Highly recommend this cozy, classy, unique spot. Well definitely be back!
Oysters were excellent...service was good...bison burger and chips old and cold.....cant believe they served it....really dissapointing....Will not return.....
First time: Excellent service. nice decor, kinda has a speakeasy meets hunting lodge kinda vibe. Great food. Mushroom toast and sticky toffee pudding were especially good. My maple old fashioned was both strong and sweet. Second time: attentive and friendly service. Great retro playlist. Sticky toffee pudding and maple old fashioned were still good. The truffle poutine is massive but delicious. The salmon tartare was very flavourful.
Came here for my Birthday and had the best time! The oysters were so fresh, the drinks were cold, the food was OUT OF THIS WORLD DELICIOUS! The taste of the schnitzel was like fireworks in my mouth. You MUST try the deserts the chocolate was so good! The Staff was friendly and very helpful, the atmosphere was PERFECT! I cant say anything more 10 out of 10 you need to come here
Extremely disappointed. Very good service but the food made my wife and I sick on Valentines Day. The pork for the Schnitzel was half raw, full of water and the vegetables tasteless. Good dessert.
Excellent restaurant!!
Good service and very delicious food
Amazing spot !!!
Staff was knowledgeable and fun. Gluten free options available. Food and drinks were SO good! Highly recommend! Sit at the bar. Best night!
The quality is in the attention to detail... this is an amazing restaurant! Cocktail artistry from owner/bartender. Wonderful service from the owner/server. The chef is unbelievably talented... the food is SOOO Good!! SOOOOOÒO GOOD... The carrot salad, beef tartare, mushroom toast and chocolate mousse were all incredible. Carrots The Rioja is amazing. So are the Chablis and Burgundy... The old fashioned was the best Ive ever had. Thank you! So much love goes into the creation of your restaurant! I had an absolute blast!
Had the octopus, very nicely done. They made good drinks too. Great atmosphere.
Absolutely the best meal weve had in a long time! Fabulous! The chef is talented & skillful. Would drive the 5 hours from Massachusetts just to eat there again!
Great atmosphere and friendly staff! Delicious oysters!
The cuisine is just incredible! All the dishes we ordered were excellent and the advice from our waitress was just as good! Quality service and the warmest atmosphere
If you re looking for a quiet place to have good food and great drinks this is the place! Great music and a log cabin vibe you can t go wrong coming here with a date or some friends. Staff is always super welcoming and friendly. Food is amazing as well. Highly recommend you try this hidden gem when visiting the old port. Tell the bartender Glen sent y a, you might get a shot.
Excellent beef pasta dish as well as salmon. A guaranteed favorite.
Neat little place with some amazing quality food. We tried the octopus, which was cooked perfectly, a 40 oz steak, and oysters (fresh from Prince Edward island) that were some of the best ones I have ever had. The wine was good, cocktails were ok. Overall service was superb and the ambiance was very neat. Will definitely recommend.
Beautiful cosy restaurant, great ambiance and loved the music. Staff super cool & friendly and food delicious. Highly recommend. Was only in Montreal for 2 nights, all the way from England. Managed to squeeze in a meal out before flight home. Was so happy our colleague from Toronto knew of this one and booked it for us. Delicious oysters & Bison burger.
Very cool.
Great service, friendly helpful staff. Started with fresh oysters, they were amazing! I grew up on the West coast picking buckets of them, so trust me... They are top shelf. All the food we had was delicious and expertly prepared. Definitely have the sticky toffee pudding 11/10. Would recommend everyone come eat here when visiting Montreal !
The best! Way to go Michael!
I can t say enough good things about this place. The owner shucked my oysters right in front of me (which were delicious!), the beer on tap was excellent and the bison burger interrupted my zen moments at their comfortable bar and left me smiling ear to ear. What a delicious burger! Drop what you re doing and get over to L Original for oysters and a burger right now!
Good service: Starter: mushrooms toast very good! The halibut fish was great. The bar is beautiful! The soundtrack is wonderful with classic rock from the 1st class!
The best! 10/10
Excellent food great atmosphere and service.
L Original was fantastic. We started with the carrot salad and both had the tagliatelle, and it was phenomenal. The restaurant was cute and cozy and romantic. We absolutely loved it and can t wait to come back. This place slaps.
Kid-friendliness: No kid friendly Food
Stopped in for dinner. This place was amazing!!! The staff was super friendly and helpful with wine recommendations. Food was very tasty and I loved the carrot salad!!! A must go to spot!
Really good service and welcoming atmosphere. Food was delicious (especially the dessert!). I would recommend and will definitely be going back. Thank you!
Great food, service, and ambiance!
Fantastic dinner. One of the most memorable eats in a long time. Highly recommend. Food and service are outstanding. Halibut special, bone marrow, raw oysters, pork snitzel,
Everything was delicious, however the portion of salmon tartare and tagliatelle is ridiculous. Luckily, there were 4 of us and we had several dishes to share. If I had had the tartare as a starter and the pasta as a main meal, I would have clearly been hungry after my meal.
Every level of service was great. Hostess, server, expediter.... Doesnt feel like a below street level restaurant. Negroni cocktail was fine (but nothing special). Mushrooms on toast was our favourite part.
Very tasty!
The best dish was the steak!
I cant say enough about this place, amazing atmosphere and decor, the service was impeccable and everything was beyond delicious. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back the next time we visit Montreal.
Whether celebrating with a group of friends (my first attendance) or a lone wolf evening (my second), Restaurant LOrignal is guaranteed to quench thirsts you didnt even know you had. From the exquisite juicy meals to the near-divine customer service, lest we forget the delicately and intricately crafted decor, one can almost feel so at home that they feel like laying right across the counter. With pants on of course. Guaranteed to leave you walking out of there with a smile on your face, and, those willing, your heart. 6 stars if I could.
Wonderful restaurant if you want to taste great Quebec food. The dining experience here is as good as its popularity. Highly recommended!
Excellent place, service and quality of meals!
Omg what a great experience!! We got in without a reservation and they where able to accommodate us in the bar! It s been the best dinner yet I swear!! Thank you Michael for making such a memorable experience, all the food was completely delicious, and so where our drinks!! (I don t think I ve ever been served so well in a restaurant before, I swear it was a memorable experience) We ordered bone marrow 10/10, pasta 10/10, bison burger 10/10 and the fish specialty of the day 10/10 now the desserts where out of this world like a 100/10! Such a lovely very Canadian spot, beautiful decoration, with an amazing/outstanding service!! I will definitely be back when I come back to Montreal and definitely a place you should visit if you are in the area, you won t regret it!!
I enjoyed dinner at the bar with the freshest oysters, tasty craft cocktails, attentive service, and great food such as poutine eaten in true tourist fashion. The restaurant itself is cozy and welcoming.
Great restaurant overall. The ambiance is very chaler or cottage like. Menu is diversified enough with good balance of fish and meat. Dishes are all decadent whish is good for a special occasion vut are not overly refined which would my only negative point. We had the 40once beef and burrata which were both excellent. Sauces with the meat were very complimentary. Wine card is pretty good and not too expensive. Service was excellent. Worth the try.
Wonderful service and great Canadian food. Very friendly service and delightful meals. The oysters were great and all of our entrees were divine.
Awesome dining experience! Excellent food, cool setting and great staff. We had no reservation but a nice spot at the bar was set up for us.
Beautiful artwork and lovely service
Cuisine at its most raw core. If not the best restaurant secret in Montreal. The service is excellent.
Great night out. Small intimate restaurant. Skilled casual staff and the food was great. The beef tartare was fantastic with a great story. Make sure you ask how this unique dish was created. Once you know that you ll get it and the flavours are brilliant in a beef tartare.
Amazing place. The restauranteur was tending bar and was knowledgeable and approachable about the food and drink. Food was amazing and ambiance was perfect. Clearly lots of regulars. Best place Ive ever stumbled into randomly anywhere in the world.
The moose themed dive bar aesthetic hides surprisingly excellent food. The restaurant was full when I arrived for dinner but they had my reservation ready to go. I sat at the bar and had the salmon tartar for an appetizer and the bison burger for dinner. The tartar was good quality though I personally didnt eat the croutons it came with. The burger was really good and Id definitely recommend it. Very soft and juicy, cooked just right. If youre looking for a good meal in a more casual atmosphere, this place is a strong choice.
Very great experience overall. Staff was super friendly and knowledgeable. Amazing food. A bit expensive but I think it was worth it. Very homey, Canadian cottage vibe.
Great restaurant in the heart of Montreal, we recommend!
Really nice and good place to eat and have a drink in the old port of Montreal.
Amazing place. Service was outstanding and the food was incredible. Cant wait to visit again on my next trip to Montreal.
Hidden gem in the heart of Old Montreal.
Delicious food and nice atmosphere, we came to celebrate my husbands birthday and it didnt disappoint. Very nice
The place was amazing! The food, the service, the atmosphere everything was excellent! Elisa is very professional and helpful. Definitely I will come back and I recommend this place to anyone.
Unbelievably great food and wonderful service.
Shared a late night dinner of poutine and wiener schnitzel as a main course with a glass of apple cider and was very very happy, Food was presented well, fast with great service and decor very cool. Would go back in a heartbeat.
Food and service were excellent!! I recommended this restaurant to all my friends. Excellent quality/price ratio
Its a different level of fine cuisine, simply beyond amazing and delicious food. Highly recommend. Food
Good but not great. The L Orignal lager was very good. The salmon was watery and very soft. My wife got the schnitzel which she said was good but slightly tough. We just felt that everything should have been better based on what we have had elsewhere.
If I was posting only for good vibes theyd be getting a 5 star. Being it is a restaurant, I give them a 2.5 to 3 star rating. Their cocktails, I mean, I dont know why they have a cocktail menu, when they can barely make proper cocktails. Theyre lager tho, was delicious. We started off with the pickled carrot salad, that had no taste whatsoever. The ponzu salmon tartar was delicious. The mushroom toast, was good but for someone that actually cooks, it is nothing special. The targliatelli with beef was very good, portion was small, but again very good. The sticky toffee that is so sought after, hmmmm... its alright, nothing again, special.. but good. Would I go back? Not to eat or have a cocktail.. for a beer, sure. Our waitress was very sweet and helpful, the service was good.
Cozy, great staff, and awesome food. Gonna make this place a staple!
Best quality French food. The atmosphere is attractive, kind of like a pub, top quality wine list, menu not to mention. I highly recommend it.
The food is mediocre, but in such small portions. Anyway, this is the old port, which means it has a nice ambiance but with a premium and trade-offs. Personally I didnt find the meals were particularly impressive. For the same prices I would suggest Coeur de Loup (but you have to travel outside of the core).
Very cozy ambiance and friendly staff
Look for the moose on the door! Our last dinner before leaving Montreal @restaurantlorignal - Québécois farm-to-table game & seafood dishes in an upscale, funky & woodsy chalet setting. I love farm-to-table which promotes serving local food. We studied the online menu in advance but we were provided menu with some different items that we ended up ordering as the menu does change due to available local ingredients. I loved the decor as it made us feel warm and cozy with thoughtful placement in a unique way. Check out the video near the end for some photos of the restaurant decor interior. We ordered: Salmon pot pie with arugula salad - the filling was a mixture of salmon, pork belly and goat cheese. This was such a filling and comfort entree. 5 Pork Schnitzel - this is a large entree and both my hubby and brother really enjoyed this immensely. 5 Bison burger with poutine - female teenager devoured this fast and shocked us as she usually eat slow and wouldnt finish her meal. 5 Braised beef tagliatelle - This was a tad on the salty side but still delicious. 4 The server was professional; knowledgeable about the menu and ingredients of each dish. We truly enjoyed our last meal in Montreal!
Oyster is a must try, mushroom toast is also good with rich flavors. For mains we ordered braised beef tagliatelle which is absolutely delicious. For the other main we ordered bass, which had 3,4 fish bones in it which was unexpected . Overall I would give 5 stars if we did not order the fish
A good restaurant at fair prices!
Truffle poutine was absolutely amazing and great for sharing! Ordered the ox tail and pork schnitzel as well. Portions were great for all dishes and we left very full and satisfied.
We had a great time here! The food is very good, and the fun bartender/owner makes you feel welcome. Try the Bone Marrow, and get a special treat when youve finished... Arnold and Frank
Certainly one of the best restaraunts in Montreal. Excellent oysters and preparation, drinks, meat dishes, seafood and desserts. Their nightly specials are usually fantastic.
