The skin could have been more golden and crunchy. 4/5 Fries: Nice texture but uninteresting, even unpleasant taste. 1/5 Sauce: Too thick and certainly not the best (the one from St-Hubert is king!). Plus there wasnt enough for 2 legs and fries! 2/5 Coleslaw: Similar to the traditional St-Hubert salad but less tasty. 3/5

A sign used to hang in this restaurant that read: When chicken such as this is served, a person never lingers, he sets aside his knife and fork and eats it with his fingers. Wheelchair accessibility: Tight quarters. And the bathroom isnt going to happen. I have to walk through that door sideways.

And the coleslaw is so amazing because the cabbage is perfectly sliced and not weird little pieces, it s like lace. Can t say enough about this place. Forget st-Hubert and forget Swiss chalet. Now, lets talk about the food absolutely incredible! The chicken was perfectly cooked, bursting with original, authentic flavor, and the poutine was equally delicious. I honestly, highly recommend you all go eat their signature, slow cooked chicken, you wont be disappointed! What really stood out was the attention to detail and the passion they put into their cooking. Steve and Catherine truly care about their patrons and it shows in every aspect of the dining experience. Love love love Chalet BBQ. We often go once a week. The food is predictably good, the staff warm friendly and attentive, and of course that timeless decor. It s nice that somethings in life don t change. Please don t ever close your doors - ever! Vegetarian options: It s a chicken bbq so if you want vegetarian I would not recommend it. Parking: If you go right at dinner time on popular eat out nights it maybe tough to find parking, patience and possibly street parking help.

When you walk up to this place, you can tell that it stands on decades of tradition and reputation. Starting with the retro street sign which you never see for restaurants anymore, and the building style from the exterior. It is physically built to feel like a Chalet in the city. The prices are reasonable, amazing that theyve been able to stay in business all these years while charging reasonable prices - other restaurant-owners, take note! Turns out, serving the same dish for 80 years results in masterful perfection. Every part of the quarter chicken dinner was delicious and well-balanced. The gravy really has a rich, fantastic flavour that compliments the chicken very well. The food doesnt take too long to come out either. Service here is great too.

The restaurant looks very nice and inviting. The problem with the tables is that they cannot very well accommodate 4 people and they have a limited number of big tables. The food is nice. I recommend the chicken breast over chicken legs because the leg was small and very fatty. We went there a little late and we think this why the fries were stale. Some of the staff, especially the lady that served us, were very nice and friendly. For the price and quality of service, I think its a good deal.

We go there to live the experience, to travel through time. Its BBQ chicken. Nothing crazy. Its different from all the others. I will always love restaurants with a menu printed on the placemat. Sometimes its good to have fewer choices. It simplifies things, it allows us to better appreciate the place and the people with us.

Quarter chicken thigh and quarter chicken breast undercooked. Not good taste. The fries were like reheated, not fresh, dry and shriveled. Coleslaws too salty and too vinegary and oily. I have known this restaurant since my childhood. Has lost its quality in recent years. Really disappointed.

This chicken place is one of the best in Montreal. The chicken is of good quality and well prepared-not dry nor flavourless like grocery chicken. The sauce is made with real chicken fat, not glucose or other chemical mix; also it is not overly salty, the kind you need to drink a galon of water after eating. The fries are made with real wholesome potatoes. Overall the chicken plates are worth it. However, what is beyond delicious is their poutine. It is the BEST that I have ever had in Montreal. Chalet Bar-B-Q is one of the best places to get roast chicken here in the city. The last time I was here was probably a while ago but I hope to eat in this restaurant when this pandemic is over. From What I remembered. The service is decent because it was not as crowded as it used to be it was on a weekend as well but pretty busy. The chicken, fries side dishes were delicious and cooked to perfection. I had no issues with the food for dining in at the time. The last time I was there 5 years ago and it is one of my favorite chicken places in the city. The only thing is that it is pretty far for me since it is located close to downtown but in the N.D.G. area. However it is walkable from Villa-Maria and Vendome metro. There is also parking in the street and at the back. During the pandemic their times have changed and I believe they only accept takeout and delivery but no dining. 28 July, 2024 20:00. This Chalet BBQ is the best chicken place in the city. Pros: A) Our make server don t know his name is bilingual and very polite he is a male. B) The Cesar salad as a starter was good and simple and the chicken soup was hot and not like warm. Both were delicious. C) The chicken and baked potato were delicious and seasoned perfectly especially the chicken. D) The location is perfect as it s near the highway and not far from Vendome Metro. Cons: A) Washrooms is old and needs renovation. B) Parking is pretty tight but it s nice that they have parking for clients. Other than that. This a hidden gem and I want to comeback to visit and show tourists and visitors this chicken spot is the best in MTL. God Bless!!! In the future I hope to try and check it out. One should note that the dinning room closes at 9PM. Only takeout section is open till 10PM. Chalet Bar-B-Q is what your Anthony Bourdain dreams are made of! Only a handful of places like this scream Montreal like Céline Dion. Chalet puts St-Hubert chicken and french fries to shame. In addition, their desserts will have you wet like a 12 yers old obsessed kid at summer camp.

Alarmingly filled with people just as old as the places reputation, the waitress was very sweet and kind and even offered us refills since we clearly didnt enjoy our food, we barely touched our plates and they were mostly full by the time we were done, when we asked to talk to someone about the quality of the food and our poor experience (especially since our dinner for 2 was 50$) we were lectured about asking to change dishes next time and wait even longer to eat. Despite being polite, the manager tried to argue and grift from us and only comped the taxes on our meal (9$) despite wasting the large majority of our dinner

Decided to try out the place with my boyfriend and was very disappointed with the food and the floor managers customer service skill. We ordered the Chicken Leg with a coleslaw and a hot Chicken. The Coleslaw was more vinegary than creamy and was very soupy, the Chicken was fine but the gravy had a strange taste. When we complained to the manager about the quality of our food we were reprimanded for not asking for another meal instead of wanting a discount on top of getting excuses after excuses on why the meal wasnt to our taste. Gravy tasted weird? We used the same gravy for all our meals! When we said we didnt like the coleslaw we were told its not the one they usually use which makes me wonder if it means they get them pre-made, and if yes why dont they make it in house? Anyway the waitresses were amazing but it is a shame the food quality isnt there and how we were treated when we pointed it out.

I always make a point to come here on my trips to Montreal. My grandfather who I never met, passed away at a young age. He used to frequent this incredible restaurant and I feel like I keep his spirit alive by eating here. The food is always delicious and this time the leg lunch special was mouthwatering!!! Best chicken breast and fresh coleslaw I ever had in a restaurant. The large cup of sauce is perfect and adds to their whole delicious ensemble. Awesome service, even if it was end of day, it was super friendly you know when you want friendly service in a restaurant, treat them how you want to be treated and you get the respect right back. The waitress deserved her 20% tip! They are celebrating their 80th anniversary this year found out yesterday evening that my friend Ken worked their as a teenager about 40 years ago he was explaining to us how they used to make their coleslaw, BBQ Chicken and he still loves the place after all these years After talking with our waitress everything is made just like back in the day! If you re looking for Montreal s best chicken, look no further The decor inside is old school (1960 s), but it has it s charm, reminded me of my childhood in the 80 s. The lighting is a little dim, but it has its charm, it goes well with the design of the place. You feel like you walk in a Montreal 80 year old business I m not saying age is a bad, but in their case, it s what attests it s food quality 80 years of perfecting the art of roasting chicken. I took a picture on their menu nothing complicated, they KNOW their chicken! We are in 2024, not 1944, so it s normal that portions have changed, prices too but how many places in 2024 in Montreal offer fresh delicious meals under 15$? I have no idea why I ve waited so long to come taste this institution in Montreal? The chicken smell good (i cant eat here it not halal) but the service for uber eat, the one who gave the order told me to confirm (his right) i confirmed the order infrot of him, he told me show me again, i showed him, ive said call somebody knew how uber works, then he told me i will rate u right now and gave me a dislike without any reason, i need that job and he risking to close my uber account for no reason Other staff were so polite but this one was so rude and accusing me for stealing and gave me a dislike for no reason Thank you

With a family of 6 including 4 small children its hard to find a place everyone agrees upon. At least twice a month the kids ask for chicken from Chalet BBQ. Their family pack option is a life saver. Its always nice to see a business offer options for families.

I wish I could give 10/10 to the service. Big WOW Jackie and Anthony were the example of what good, CARING, customer service workers should be. Les petits attentions that they paid to my table were so very much appreciated and thoughtful. We really love oldschool places so the atmosphere were really good and unique. The service and people were also kind and smiley. For the food we didnt eat chicken. We have tried poutine, fries and a ceasar salad. Fries were not crispy at all and reminded of just old cooked potatoes and they were greasy. After our stomach felt not good beacuse of the grease. For vegetarian options is only a fries and a salad.

We inhale, and then we exhale. And, at Chalet BBQ... Chickens are expertly prepared. Fries are cut and fried And, slaw cut and dressed. ....and time stands still. There are certain things which will never change. Dining in Chalet BBQs dining room is one of them (save for the Boston Cream Pie. I miss that cake, And the delivery guy who looked like a Bond Villain). Still the best rotisserie chicken in Montreal. And of course, excellent fries.

This place is okay, really nothing to write home about, if you want BBQ (If you want to pretend its real BBQ) chicken its decent enough. Nothing really stands out particularly about the food, its your classic bland run of the mill BBQ place. The chicken is mostly flavourless and not anything to write home about, some stuff tastes like cheap canned food (avoid the hot chicken sandwich) Id say Id recommend this place, but I really wouldnt, go to a real BBQ restaurant like Moonshine on Monkland.

If you want to visit one true Bar-B-Q chicken place, THIS IS THE PLACE, I cant see any other place in a 50-75 km distance that tops this place and Im pretty sure there isnt in the province. this place is epic in any way. food is amazing, dont expect a very complex menu, this is old classics but done the right way. the place looks likes a log cabin... its called chalet BBQ, what do you expect... these people knows how to deliver the due. this place is the only place I wanna go when it comes to BBQ chicken and it is probably the only remnants of an era where each hood had a BBQ place like this and still at that time Chalet was still top of my list (and I visited them all).

The food quality is just not there anymore. The buns were so hard you couldn t make the little dipping sandwiches. The gravy sucks. Sent the buns back and they sent the same buns back to us. Absolutely no quality control in this place. Go to Benny s the foods fresher.

Eighty years old and all his teeth Did you know that Gregory Charles look-alike works at Chalet Bar-B-Q? The lady who made the comment, approved by her husband, seemed convinced, while Youssef, the waiter, seemed rather doubtful, but amused. In my opinion, the resemblance was limited to the lit gaze and the kind smile. In any case, it could be taken as a compliment. Dressed in black pants and a white shirt like the other employees at the tables, we were kindly and patiently assisted by the same Youssef who engaged in a few bits of conversation to my great pleasure. This is how I learned more about this venerable restaurant which will soon celebrate its 80th anniversary in July. Once celebrated as a place where you could enjoy delicious charcoal-cooked chicken with a big pint of beer until late at night, the schedule and alcoholic offerings have mellowed, but the chicken and its magic sauce remain immutable classics. The latter simultaneously attract up to three generations of the same family to the comfortable and intimate benches of the Chalet installed along the walls. It is said that there are not often curious young faces like mine and that of my friend. The menu certainly seems to date from another era, but so what? It was delicious in the past and it still is today! Some days there would even still be lines to get in, and the cause is certainly not lack of space. So why not do like us? Go with two, three, four friends, bring as a minimum a starter of chicken wings, a quarter of breast or thigh, depending on your palate, and a hot sandwich served with good fries. Soothed by the food, enjoy a moment of tranquility in this cozy and warm atmosphere. Your satiated stomach will thank you, as will your wallet! A complete and tasty meal for $25 or less. Connoisseurs tip for saving money: jump into your time machine, insert 1944 for the year, and spend just 10 cents. Vegetarian options: Vegetarians in chicken heaven? Hmm... Parking: The restaurant has its own parking lot in the back. Kid-friendliness: Yes, with its comfortable bench seats. Wheelchair accessibility: Its not easy, but with someone to open the doors, it can be done.

Best chicken in town done the real way no gas and you will taste the it when you try. Warning the other chicken places will all taste bad if you compare to Chalet Bar-B-Q

Great fries. Chicken could have been cooked more. Had a nice flavour. I didn t like the sauce. A bit like stepping back in time to the 60 s. It s okay but I wouldn t go back.

My first time eating here and I was not disappointed! Chicken was great, fries are easily the best fries Ive ever had and the SAUCE! absolutely delish. Highly recommend, portions are great for the price you pay. And beer for under 6$! Worth a trip out here

Chalet Bar-B-Q is a forever favorite. It is what it is and loved by many, many Montrealers. We travel all the way from St. Lazare occasionally to eat or pick up a chicken and fries from take-out. Latest visit was after a show in downtown Montreal.

So hard to find places like this. I go for the lunch special and it s so cheap and good, service is professional, they are kid friendly. It s a wonderful blast from the past. There s even parking. It s so awesome I d be devastated if it closed or changed

A classic chicken place with great food. The poutine is nothing special but the signature dish came fast, hot and was very reasonably priced. The maitred was a bit unpolished and took away from the enjoyment a little.

Great chicken!! Nice portions! You should also know that the bbq sauce is really different: different from that of St-Hubert and that of Benny. Its a little sweeter and has what appears to be cinnamon in it. Once you expect it, you enjoy it and its really good. The restaurant has existed since 1944! There is a lot of history in these walls! The decor seems not to have changed in a very long time, but it is very clean and the old appearance contributes to the character and atmosphere. It looks vintage but original, not remade... Its cool! Well done! To the Chalet BBQ team!

Very cozy place to grab a nice meal and enjoy the service. It was my first time visiting Montréal and we needed a nice meal before heading back home. This place came about and we decided to try it. It was a great choice! The food was delicious and filling, and our waitress was wonderful. The waitress was very friendly and gave us recommendations to save some money. Their gravy has a hint of heat. Their fries were crispy and very palletable. Chicken soup was perfect to warm up. I liked their water pitcher. Unfortunately, I dont have a picture of their water pitcher. Go and check it out.

Well if you like a decor from the 1960 s this is the place to go even the waitresses are from the 60 s. The chickens have gotten much smaller and now they count how many fries they give you way overpriced now! I won t ever go back. I used to love the one on Decarie near decarie square

This has been my favorite restaurant for years. I went today, and it was phenomenal. The crispiest, tastiest fries, tender chicken, and delicious sauce. Excellent soup as well. Parking: Good parking lot for the city, but hard to find parking at peak hours. Wheelchair accessibility: The front door is ground level.

I have been coming here for more than 40 years as it was a family favorite. The chicken is tender and tasty, the FRIES are the best in Montreal, in my humble opinion. AND THE SAUCE. I used to drink what was left when i was young. Not much has changed over the years EXCEPT for the size of the chicken they serve. i felt as if I was eating a baby chicken, the drumstick was so small!! They must have changed supplier. Charge more, but give us a normal size chicken leg, please. I will still go back, but will have to order two legs instead of one...

Chalet Bar-B-Q exceeded my expectations! The chicken was impeccably cooked, bursting with flavor. The ambiance was delightful, and the service was top-notch. If I could, Id give it 6 stars on Google Maps. Highly recommended!

A fixture of the NDG neighbourhood for the 80 years, this restaurant is still going strong serving up some of the best rotisserie chicken. This place has that old school restaurant decor with the vinyl clad booth seats and wood wall panelling. Food was piping hot and delicious - staff are perfectly bilingual. I highly recommend this place for that classic Montréal restaurant experience and top-class rotisserie chicken.

Simple warm basic food (based on chicken and potato). Good family atmosphere. Lager graft beer. Good place especially during cold winter weather.

Unfortunately the two times Ive visited this restaurant Ive left with food poisoning, the chicken was not fully cooked and the poutine cheese was old. I felt as if something was off while I was eating didnt find out until the next day Unfortunately. Staff was amazing though, please just make sure you actually cook the chicken!
