760 Rue Charlevoix, Montréal, QC H3K 2Y2, Canada
Corner diner doling out poutine, burgers & hot dogs in a snug, old-school setting.
Visiting from Toronto. Reviews don’t lie. Long history and poutine super fireeeee 😋 had to try the spruce beer as it was recommended, very refreshing.
The hamburger combo + poutine and spruce beer was fantastic. The burger was simple but perfectly cooked. The cheese curds were very squeaky. I really enjoyed the spruce beer, too. Highly recommended for some really good poutine!
We revisited Montréal over the long weekend with our daughter and our 1st meal was poutine from Paul Patates which was low key and popular among texi drivers. I am not a fan of fries so usually don’t like poutine but their poutine was impressively satisfying with rich gravy.
I went today after work and had Poutine recommended by kasety! It was amazinnng ! Having this great dish after long time was great . Service was super fast and helpful!
I love hole in wall restaurants, and this was just great. The burger and fries hit the spot. The poutine was good. I like that they had the option of mini-poutine. It was just perfect for my kids.
We drove down to Verdun and visited a classic casse-croûte established in 1958. Impeccable fries with the slightest crunch to them. A classic sauce that doesn't try too hard to be special and reinvent poutine. Cheese at the perfect temperature before being added so it doesn't melt but also isn't cold... This Poutine is pure. Flawless. The Hot dogs were the ideal size in our opinion, big enough for 2 to be filling and somehow tastes fresher than hotdogs usually do; we're not sure if that's due to the bread or the sausage itself. We loved the food but what's really special and unique about Paul Patates is their homemade spruce beer! A recipe from 1898 - We didn't know spruce beer could taste that good. We were previously used to the run-of-the-mill grocery store soda type and we don't even know where to start describing how much better this is. You'll just have to go try for yourself!
I’m not normally a fan of poutine, but the poutine here is simply the best I’ve ever had anywhere - real squeaky curds and fries that were so good and fresh they were very nearly sweet. Service is very friendly, the ambiance local, nostalgic, Québécois - a last vestige of its kind in Montreal. Looking forward to going back again to try the spruce beer (not real beer, but like root beer). A must try.
I read an article about places where locals love to eat, so I decided to check it out. The diner was retro-looking, the employees were friendly, and the food was very good. As you can see, they give you a good deal of food for your money. It was the first time we tried the spruce beer, which was an acquired taste. Not saying it was bad, but it took me a minute to get used to it. Overall, I am very glad we stopped by for a quick bite before our long trip back home.
Point born and raised, love this place. Great food and service. Vegetarian options: Mom n pop fry shop lol French fries could be your veggie option. Food : 5/5 |
I asked for light sauce Ended up with a poutine soup Please make sure you follow your customer s request
Good quality simple grubby type of food. If youre in the mood for a good ol steamy, this place is great or Angus beef burgers, their famous épinette beer isnt for me personally, though the fries I ordered had no flavor to it, they didnt salt it. I dont know if that standard or they just forgot. The inside is cute, its a time warp. Youll often see older folks in there eating by the counter, they seem to be regulars. You cant replicate that vibe. For take out, Id suggest getting there 30 mins before closing if you want to order anything otherwise theyre cleaning up and you cant order anything.
More than 20 years I wasnt always as cool as snack bars Dany wasnt there hihi my good food ss cosh like in the old days thank you no stress my friend your right to your life
Classic Montreal canteen. Poutine very good and everything else too.
One of the last classic fast-food restaurants in the Pointe St-Charles district. I go there mainly for their spruce beer made on site and for their poutine. Good prices, generous portions and quick and pleasant service. Small place where there are not a lot of seats and which is mainly frequented by people from the neighborhood. If you are in the area, I recommend the detour
Nice place, affordable prices and excellent fries (not very surprising so far). The atmosphere is nicely maintained with the food at the counter and the music from the 70s/80s.
The poutine is fantastic. Also really enjoyed the pine soda. Prices were good. The atmosphere has a cool retro diner feel as you can see
Very very dirty
5 6 years ago, I only wear 2 today. Poutine isnt what it used to be, brown gravy, fries, thats nothing anymore. Then the customer service prevents people from eating on site at 6:25 p.m. when it closes at 7 p.m., even a little pogo is not cool.
A good retro atmosphere accompanied by a good fried potato and mustard cabbage, what could be better!
Clean and friendly staff and very good fries and hot dogs and spruce beer hamburger
Legit Diner experience. Everything is well made, the right way. Highly recommend for your poutine cravings !
Pouting was like McDonalds poutine, nothing really special, and avoid Italian gravy tasted bad
Very disappointed with the poutine.. Cheese not fresh. However, the quality is usually good. I almost went back to have him rectify the situation.
A true institution! Great service and the best poutine and the best all-dressed! Thank you
The poutine is excellent, the Épinette Beer! the best Ive had in my life WOW and what can I say about the service and the Retro atmosphere :) a great experience.
Best place for Spruce beer!
Excellent poutine and cheeseburger. You have to try the spruce beer!
Good food. Good price. Good service.
The best dinner in town and they have the best fries
Best classic poutine in Montreal, and avoid the crowds! Generous portion of fresh cheese and real pieces, not the cut ones. Best classic poutine in Montreal, plus avoid the crowds! Generous helping of fresh cheese, legit pieces not all cut up. Enjoy
So good. Great service and good old-fashioned spruce beer!
Excellent but expensive
Arriving less than 20 minutes before closing you will not be served. I asked for 3 steamer hot dogs to bring and I was told sorry... but if you want fries its possible! Not strong.
Beautiful paterie, right on the corner.
Pauls potatoes are incredible
The food is great, the staff are quick and welcoming, it can be crowded during lunch or dinner time so come a bit earlier to beat the crowd. Overall a really great place to grab a quick lunch.
Pleasant staff, quick service with a definite 1950s vibe. Its THE PLACE to get genuine spruce beer (perhaps an acquired taste). Street parking is generally available nearby.
Montreals best kept secret! Its honestly better than the other poutine places Ive had in Montreal! Whats best its close to Corona Theater! Absolute hidden gem, service and food is supreme quality and will never get tired of it. The staff is super friendly and that I had a grand time going before a show and I am gonna go back again this week! Cant wait to come here more often!
A must in the sector although the prices are quite expensive 2 hot dogs 1 fries and 1 drink $20 with tip without waiter or waitress.($23) Excellent food and fries a 10 out of 10.
Back to the last century, except for the prices! ;-) Very good service, good quality, not very comfortable retro atmosphere, but you have to go there at least once in your life
Welcoming service for a very good fast food not too greasy A+
Kassidy was great ...food is awesome. Being from 17 hrs away in Ontario. Poutine and burger was unbelievable. Thanks again.
In the best poutine in Montreal! Only really frustrating that they close before the indicated closing time in addition to not taking orders for pick-up
Delicious food! Great prices, people and atmosphere. The poutine was DIVINE! Highly recommend.
Best poutine in the southwest
Excellent as always . Dont forget to get their homemade spruce beer.
The best food This is hamburger heaven Fries were amazing Hot dogs simply the best You may have heard the story of small out of the way places that serve the best food ever? This is that place The food is simply the Best Parking: We parked on the street No parking lot around
Bon restaurant fast food.
Good taste
People are cool
Very expensive but its good
Best poutine around! Try the spruce beer soda too! Food
One of the very good poutines I have tried
What a gem! Come here for the atmosphere at least. You walk through the door and you are transported back in time. The service is super-friendly. Dont expect any frills, just straight forward casse croute food. The star turn here is that they brew their own spruce beer, so make sure you try that. Other than that, just pick a stool at the bar!
The taste is fantastic, the fries and pourine awsome. Smell great , you can not stop eating
Charming doesn t begin to describe how wonderful this place is. Run don t walk because you going to need to burn off all those cheese curds.
This small diner still has its classic look. I love their spruce beer. They have decent hotdogs, too.
Very good poutine and epinette beer. Retro atmosphere. great places.
Burger and poutine at the top, the vintage atmosphere is cool and the team is super friendly
The food is amazing!! The burger is one of the best I ever had! I am now a regular customer. Food : 5/5
Everything is good at this place, no more expensive than other food places
Best poutine in Montreal
Good cheap fast food with friendly people. Plus, they make their own root beer.
I came to Paul patatas during the summer. It s a decent restaurant and all the classics you can find. The pros: It s has a bar style table. B) The prices here are decent. C) There fold was alright and good D) They have Spruce beer. The Cons: A) It s a far walk by Metro. B) Parking may be a challenge since it s in a residential area. C) They need to clean and renovate the store. D) Make sure that this restaurant is environmentally sustainer and adaptable to climate change. All in all it s a good restaurant and hope to visit again soon.
There sauce a little too salty for poutine the rest is good
Very good
Delicious food! The club sandwich and onions rings are must haves!
Best poutine in Montreal!!! No frills the way it should be.
Love the regular BBQ poutine over here. The potato fries are cut in house and they are fried to an enjoyable crisp. Gravy is delicious, not too heavy and overpowering.
Good fast food and great service.
I loved this place, was my first experience of authentic poutine and it will be tough to beat
Probably the best poutine in Montreal. Have visited this place twice since i discovered it last summer and both times it has been really tasty. Good value for the price.
Very ordinary poutine, not bad but nothing special! Compare to other places, it is expensive for the quantity!
Ordered a steamy, which is hard to mess up but also hard to stand out, and this one stood out. Also had a Michigan which was really really good. Don t know what they re doing with that meat / chili sauce but wow. Finally had one of their poutine. Fries were perfectly fried and the sauce was definitely distinct and so tasty. Diner food that gives lots of places a run for their money. Also can t sign off without mentioning the incredible service. Service felt as good as in some very expensive restaurants. Quick, kind and attentive.
Outstanding poutine and super nice guys!
This little restaurant is a Cartier legend, Im never disappointed, everything is perfect (food and staff) Impeccable!
Quite expensive my Phew thats good
The perfect example of classic Quebec poutine. A treat!
I love this place ! The cooks are so nice ! The make excellent food and is a must stop if ever you are looking for a late night snack :) they only accept cash tho but they do have a atm in the restaurant. Poutine is delicious!
My top 3 poutines in Montreal.
A legendary place, very clean and welcoming staff. Good food prepared with care. I liked it, I recommend it. $$
A good retro dinner ! I am very satisfied!
a return to the past
Best French fries in the area
A gem of a restaurant that must be protected by encouraging, because there are very few that remain like this. Retro atmosphere that is both well preserved and historic and really feels like a time when things were simpler. Poutine is comforting. The fries that make it up are both soft and crispy, just the way I like it. The steamed hot dogs are excellent. The burger tastes what it should taste like, delicious. And their house spruce beer accompanies everything with a very logical and soothing touch of freshness. The staff is friendly, friendly and almost family-like. It really all worked out! If I had just one downside, it would be that the amount of smoke meat on my poutine was too little in my opinion, and that the cheese was not perfectly fresh and squeaky. But that in no way hampered my experience at Paul Patates. To visit at the most sacred.
As a Belgian I can confirm this place has the best fries in Montreal - at least, these come the closest to what we call a frituur with Belgian fries. Even the way they are prepared in front of you made me think of home. Frite Alors and other restaurants could never. Plus, the prices are very very decent. Love this place!! A true gem and I hope it exists forever and ever.
A good little honest canteen, poutine, hamburgers, hot dogs etc etc
Expensive, but delicious
Overrated. Fries were undercooked and coleslaw not great. Parking: Parking on surrounding streets Recommended dishes Parking space Somewhat difficult to find parking
The poutine is really very good
Gravy is delicious, not too heavy and overpowering.
The poutine was excellent, the spruce beer was a good discovery and the dinner atmosphere was really nice, I highly recommend! The restaurant honors this name haha
Came across this place by chance and remembered seeing it on a few tv shows so decided it was a must try and was very happy that I did . The hot dogs and poutine were amongst some of the best in Montreal and to top it off the spruce beer was a great addition. I can t wait to go back when I m in town and I recommend this place to everyone
Very good and super clean
The food is great, not too salty
I adore
I ve been going here for more than 50 years. This is as authentic as it gets. This may appear to be greasy spoon but the owner is a trained chef. The decor hasn t changed much since the 60 s, which makes this place appealing and real.
Amazing squeaky cheese, great fries. Would of loved to taste a more bbquyi sauce unless I diddnt order the right sauce! Definitely recomend
Best Decor, Best Poutine
I loved it, the best poutine Ive eaten, good atmosphere
Small snack bar, good welcome. Discover their famous Poutine, a treat! The interior design is fun. Unfortunately they only have fries to offer as a vegetarian dish!!! They make burgers so why dont they include a vegetarian burger in their menu!!!! I hope next time to see this on their menu! Vegetarian options: Fries!!!
Great poutine has to balance 3 great elements, fries, sauce and squeaky curds. Some places put too many curds on top. Some dont know how to make their fries crispy. And weve all has that horrible chemical taste from bad sauce. Well.... this is one of the places that has learnt to balance the 3 very well. The sauce is tasty and there is just enough of it. The curds are good and there arent too many or too few. But the real star here... the fries. These are great fries! So if you are driving by and wondering should I stop, the answer is... YES. For fries or a poutine. Because on this side of town, this is a great choice!
The BBQ Poutine is a real treat So good that I took what I couldnt eat to snack on in the evening - theres not a crumb left - A great place with great encounters
By far, one of the best poutine in Quebec. Simply delicious. 6 Stars out of 5
Their O.M.G spruce beer is so freaking good!
Simply awesome!!! Best casse croûte ever!!! Best hot dogs and best poutine in Montreal
I CAN T STOP THINKING ABOUT THE POUTINE I HAD THERE.
Excellent poutine but I wasnt feeling welcomed. When I wanted to seat at counter fyi you have to pay and tip before having your meal.
I think this place has the best club sandwich on PSC. And spruce bear is amazing
Great place. Inexpensively fed and watered)
One of the last original casse croutes in Montreal serving up the true classics. Much improved environment with far less drama since they changed their staff. Prices of got a bit high for what theyre serving.
Old style diner that does the classics the right way. Places like this are getting rarer by the minute in and around the city. Will definitely go back.
Excellent! Reminds me of my youth
Excellent menu
A classic place to enjoy some real michigan hotdogs, hamburgers and french fries. And they taste just as good as they did 40 years ago. Definitely worth a visit whenever youre in the Pointe!
A place like I worship in Montreal, timeless where you are served an honest and good hot meal for a fair price, and you leave feeling relaxed until the evening!!
Dropped by Paul Patates in Point St. Charles on Charlevois St., in Montreal, tonite with my wife on our way back from some snow-tramping in the Eastern Townships (Sutton). We were the last customers of the day, but enjoyed a great welcome by the two ladies in attendance. Ordered 4 steamies, all dressed, sans ketchup, two orders of onion rings and two bottles of their home brew Spruce Beer. Simply delicious! Keeping up a wonderful Montreal tradition! Add this place to your must visit list. :)
Some of the best steamies and poutine in Montreal.
Authentic
Literally the best fries in the city. Fries and gravy are vegan friendly!
Nice place and very satisfying dishes.
An ultra classic little boui-boui. The food is very good and is served late. Worth revisiting for unpretentious cravings.
Very very good place wum wum
Really good hotdogs and spruce beer
Best Hot Dogs in Montreal! Friendly staff with a little Anglo accent (Pointe St-Charles, Irish district in time)
Theres a small flight of stairs to get into the building and not a lot of standing room to wait for your order but their are a ton of seats at the counter. Fresh cut fries! The gravy is nice and light rather than the heavy smoky beef gravy thats popular with some places.
Excellent quality dinner style fast food The poutine is incredible! I recommend.
Super good, worth the detour.
The food is perfect, but what makes this place unique is the spruce beer which is not too sweet. I adore!
Years of visiting this resto for the best poutine. No poutine like Pauls poutine
No flavor fries, small and tasteless hamburger
Online pricing is out of date so its overpriced now considering that anyone can easily make the same hamburger, hotdog and pogos at home if not better. Next time Ill only get a spruce beer since I havent tried it yet apparently its great. It was pretty basic. Parking: Street parking. Wheelchair accessibility: Not accessible.
New staff, always great service.
Came by on my lunch break and ordered to go. The steamed hot dog was one of the most perfect I ve had. The poutine is an absolute classic, a little more gravy and they would ve gotten 5/5. Impressive still
Super good. Many celebrities have already eaten at this drive-in.
Great place, delicious poutine, friendly staff...I wish they had a location in Ontario
Friendly, fast and delicious.
Fast service, copious portions, retro decor...in short, a good place for a quick fatty meal.
Best poutine, the employees are adorable, we went back twice and I will miss it when we leave Montreal
poutine is fire, so good, this is a poutine
Delcious steamed hot dog! Chunky and crispy hand cut thick fries! Iconic/classic Verdun dîner! We loved it! Coming back to try the clubhouse sandwich and daily fresh ground beef burgers!
I saw photos of our winner from Pat and I wasnt surprised, good food and the chef, a good guy who told me the history of the small restaurant but you have to go there, its worth the trip
Not like before.
Very good poutine, sometimes I dream of it
Club sandwich is good and every time I give the fries a chance every time I get old, soft, dark brown fries (oil to change?)
Too expensive for the quality. Not enough cheese in the poutine. Im not going back there anymore. THANKS.
Best Poutine and hot dog in a long time, really the place to go for good potatoes!
While the poutine is simply quite amazing, it is a bit pricey for a fast food restaurant. Edit: always a pleasure to come here. Best poutine in Montreal!
AWESOME 10/10
Excellent service. Very good meal. Excellent poutine! The fries are special.
Very good poutine!
Quite expensive price Cool atmosphere But little seating space Parking is not always easy
Best poutine in the neighborhood
Purchased hotdogs and fries. Hotdogs were good, french fries are always overcooked, burnt, tasteless with bits and pieces of fries. Less than half a bag was ok to eat. So dissapointed, not sure if we will order the fries again! Wheelchair accessibility: None
Totally fabulous
Top!
Excellent ! Bonnie service too
Good spruce beer
The gravy is a little funky, the fries a little undercooked, and one of the four poutines we ordered came with a chunk of cranberry sauce in it I know what makes a good poutine is a very subjective subject but the four of us in our family where not impressed.
Probably the best traditional poutine in Montreal. A must-have.
It seems to me that we could eat inside...
Still very good
Great diner with lots of history!
Was good but was better before the virus
Restaurant from my childhood...unchanged, still as good...photos from the 1970s on the walls, like in the old days...at Pointe St Charles...
