Neighbourhood eatery for upscale, market-driven eclectic dishes in a compact & cozy room with a bar.
I spent Friday night at Tuck Shop with my family for my birthday, and it was everything I would have hoped for. The food was excellent, and the service was seamless. I believe our server was named Luis, he was attentive, pleasant and funny. We never once waited for refills of drinks, or were without something we needed. Having worked as a server myself I absolutely appreciate good customer service, and theirs was wonderful. They seemed to work as a team which I love. Between the 5 of us we ordered all of the mains, and each one was great! The oysters were some of the best I’ve had, and the focaccia was delicious. Honestly one of the best birthday dinners I’ve had at a restaurant, maybe ever. It’s not often that service and food quality both blow me away, and Tuck Shop had the perfect balance of both. Thank you to all the staff for a lovely birthday experience! We will absolutely be back when we’re in town next.
Great ambience and amazing service! More of a lowkey, casual fine dining place. We got the Focaccia to start and it was honestly the best I ever had. Perfectly salted, super soft on the inside, and add the perfect crisp on the outside. For the mains we split the: - Hanger Steak it was good and the fries were good, but nothing special - Duck magret the duck was cooked soo well and I liked all the complementary components of the dish - Cappelletti my husband loved this dish, but since I'm not a fan of sweeter pasta, I couldn't not taste pumpkin pie. He however, thought it was the best dish out of the 3 we tried
Tuck Shop is immediately welcomed into my short list of "very favourite restaurants in Montreal" after my recent first visit. The food manages to be fancy and yet simple at the same time. The brisket caused several of us to become emotional, which is basically the highest compliment I can give. Also, I visited with a large group that had various dietary restrictions spread throughout it, and those people felt very well taken care of. Can't wait to come back.
Such a great place. I can hardly explain how fantastic this restaurant is. The staff were lively and attentive. Funny and personable. Very cool. The restaurant is cozy and clean. Everything flows nicely. The food is unbelievable. The menu is short and sweet. Everything is a star. Nothing that shouldn't be there. Very well thought out and executed. Fresh grated horseradish and housemade hotsauce for the oysters is a nice detail. If you see miatake mushrooms on the menu, do yourself a favor and order them. You will thank me. Maybe some of the most delicious flavors I've ever tasted. Cod was moist and perfectly seared. Sauces were on point. Hanger steak was cooked perfect medium rare. Awesome fries with the steak. Get the desserts. Chocolate nemesis is decadent. Cheesecake had wonderful fat blueberries bursting with flavor. What a wonderful place. I will be singing its praises until I come back. And I will whenever I'm in Montréal.
My husband and I had dinner here tonight at the chefs bar. Wow - watching the chefs at work was like watching creative artists. The atmosphere was friendly, the staff work together effortlessly. The service was extremely attentive with great explanations of the dishes on the menu. The food certainly did not disappoint- my husband had the tuna appetizer and I had the heirloom tomatoes- both beautiful and delicious. We had a fish dish and lamb shank for our main courses - phenomenal flavor and again presentation was on point. I don’t know how we found the room but we had a chocolate dessert with pear gelato - almost too good to eat….but we did! Do yourself favor and make a reservation if you are in the area.
spent my birthday and tuck shop and i WISH i remembered our waitresses name. she was so attentive and took some great pictures of our party to help us commemorate the celebration. entire staff was incredibly attentive- clearing silverware and plates between courses, refilling water, attending to our every want or need. couldn’t have asked for better service!! the food was DYNAMITE!! 🧨🔥 the oysters were from new brunswick and tasted so fresh, served with shredded horseradish, a lovely sweet onion sauce, lemon, cocktail and hot sauce. we tried the mushroom toast which had chanterelles, lobster mushroom and it looked like some tiny button mushrooms. perfect umami flavor! the market salad was light and refreshing. all were easily split amongst our party. i tried the chicken ballotine for my main and it was divine! it was presented beautifully as medallions- the outside skin was crispy while the inside was tender and juicy. perfectly complemented by the pomme puree, mushrooms, legumes and other vege. the other mains in our party were so good, every plate went back completely clean! i had a refreshing moscow mule and also the chocolate plum sundae for dessert. it was rich but heavenly- perfect to share so everyone can try a few bites. we will definitely be back! this place is a gem. thank you to all staff at tuck shop for making my birthday so special. cheers!
I was visiting the city with some friends and found some recs for Tuck Shop on Reddit. The service is exceptional, the food is something to return for, and the space has a stylish atmosphere. We shared some oysters, I had the grilled swordfish and my friends both had the Hanger steak with fries. For dessert we had the plum sundae, ice cream sandwich and olive oil cake. All were amazing including drinks. They have an extensive wine list. All in all we really enjoyed the whole experience and would reccomend. Additionally we're staying downtown and this charming neighborhood of 2 and 3 story old brick buildings was a welcome change. Bravo Tuck Shop 👏👏👏
Let me start with the service - outstanding. Really one of the best experiences I’ve had. Our waiter was super kind, patient, professional and made us feel very welcome. The food is really good. In my opinion it is not “fine dining” but nonetheless excellent! The pasta was a very nice dish, well balanced, creative and nicely plated. The fish was good. Basic. Desserts are good. Overall good experience.
We went to Tuck Shop on December 6th for a special occasion- the food was terrific, the service by Luis was impeccable ( two of us worked as servers in the past-he was a perfect waiter- attentive, not pushy, there when we needed him!) and the atmosphere is great- we highly recommend Tuck Shop!
Perfect moment, service and food.
They accommodated a group of us (8) and sat us in the back area past the kitchen. The service was great and it was nice to be in a quieter area where we could have good conversations. The food was so yummy! We went family style on the apps and enjoyed them all. Thank you for a great time.
Over priced over rated
Beautiful inside, love the kitchen! Our waiter was great, and the staff was super friendly and attentive. For the price point, I personally didn t think it was worth it. The chicken was dry and flavourless. Nothing really stood out to me outside of the focaccia. Maybe it was just an off day- as we ve heard really good things from others!
I was pregnant so more limited choices, but overall I liked it and I will go back to try other dishes. The only problem is that we had a lot of pressure to leave the table before the 2nd service. It would have been nice to be informed at the time of booking or when we were seated and not 3 minutes before we had to pay and leave the premises.
Expect small portions but very tasty. Excellent service. A little pricey.
The evening was very good, the service was perfect and food was good. The atmosphere was amazing. The only thing I found weird was the toilets being right in front of our table, so every time someone went in or left we had a visual of a bathroom which was a bit weird, not sure why they designed the restaurant like that.
The food looks really good. But it does not taste good. Kind of like a McDonalds commercial. The restaurant is really small and going to the bathroom Felt like it was black Friday at the Walmart.
An precious jem .... Outstanding food with a service team that anticipates your needs, and is right there with a friendly smile. 11 out of 10! Highly recommend.
We really enjoyed our dinner here last night. Sat at the bar and got seriously personalized service. Not only great wine knowledge, but pairing knowledge too. Make a reservation though, its popular!
I ve been here twice and both times the music is way too loud, very hard to have a discussion. We have tried the steak and the chicken. The chicken was ok, very small pieces and wouldn t try it again. The steak is delicious, it comes with a ton of fries, for the price point, i would have prefered another side as well. The service was ok, i found the waiter was a bit unrpofessional/too friendly
An inconspicuous store front to a hidden gem in Saint Henri. In my opinion the best restaurant in the city.
I d give 11 stars if I could. Good cocktails, not pretentious, quality fresh food, seasonal and killer vibe. Jonathan is a rockstar, anticipated our needs before we asked. Loved the service I highly recommend.
We had an amazing experience here with Michelle, Jonathan, and the whole team. We started with the foccacia and shared the corn agnolotti, chicken ballotine, and the hangar steak. All dishes were wonderfully cooked and Michelle convinced us to share 3 dishes and taste more. Her knowledge and personality set the meal apart for us! The cooking chops and flavors on their own were extremely impressive, but the hospitality here is next level.. We also had the blueberry cheescake for dessert, that was memorable and had some unique traits that made it stick out. I cant say enough good things! Come here with friends and indulge!
Tuck shop is a hidden gem! From the warm greeting to our server Gabrielle (who is a superstar!), to the inventive and extraordinary chef - we were blown away. Jonathan has created a family that takes pride in what they do- a one-of-a-kind mix of down to earth atmosphere and 5 star culinary mastery. We cant wait to return.
The food is excellent, and the service is outstanding. This is a perfect spot for a special occasion! Shout out to Adam at the bar for the great drinks! Wheelchair accessibility: Not wheelchair accessible
We really enjoyed the service and the food. The dishes were tasty.
Amazing place to go out for a romantic dinner or just casual dinner out with friends. They alway have a season menu. Eg. in summer they have snow crab which is delicious with some other fish dishes. In winter they have an amazing duck. Totally recommend!
Had a great evening at Tuck Shop. Food and service was too notch. Lots of options for seating, super nice and quiet back terrace. All the dishes we tried were delicious!
Came here back in November 2023. The food was pretty good. We ordered some oysters, beef tartare, foie torchon, a roasted duck breast, and this godly braised leek with smoked swordfish and caviar dish. I was looking at the recent reviews and it seems they rotated that dish out. Such a shame. Everything was pretty mid, but that one leek dish made this a full-on 5 star experience.
Unfortunately underwhelming meal. Although the food was good, the taste and creativity of the dishes were far below expectations, hence they could not rise up to the posted prices. We opted out of dessert to limit the disappointment. My experience from a few years ago was 5 stars, as the food was fantastic and we left on a full and happy stomach. Truly hoping this local spot can get back to that level.
I had the pleasure of dining at the Tuck Shop restaurant yesterday, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. I ordered Theos Quebec chanterelles, Birri Farms zucchini flowers, Quebec corn agnolotti, and peach tarts, accompanied by a Margarita and beers. Each dish was a true work of art: not only were the flavors incredible, but the presentation was also strikingly beautiful. The freshness of the ingredients was felt in every bite, elevating the flavors to the next level. Tuck Shop has truly mastered the art of culinary excellence and visual presentation. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience.
The food was faithful to the ingredients and strong on the basics. It wasnt too flashy, but it was a very good late-night meal, and the service was also top-notch. I would like to visit again next time.
One of Montreal s besteeest restaurants! Service, atmosphere and food are outstanding! Thank you!
An Extremely mediocre place,food,service,ambiance
we went there on our wedding anniversary, and had the joy of sitting on the terrasse, during a torrential downpour, which we absolutely loved because we were very well protected. The meal was fantastic, really enjoyed it, the service was also great, We will most certainly be back for a second visit!
Went there for duck... unfortunately they did not have. Food was fine but no sparks !
Great food! Could be a little more refined but a good place to go celebrate and eat well with friends.
Overated place! The meat was below average!
Every dish on the limited menu was outstanding. Great service and vibe. Only complaint would be the noise level. But hey - it s a popular and cozy spot.
When too much is too much. Too much staff checking on us, asking how our plate was, cleaning our table, coming again. Too much deception about the plates. 27$ for a cucumber, 2 mini cubes of watermelon and 3 cherry tomatoes with the most basic asian-inspired watery dressing is a rip-off. Asparagus in every other dish on the menu. How fun. Too expensive for any wallet. Too pretentious to enjoy. Too uninspired dishes. What a waste of a night out. Spare yourself and go somewhere else.
We went for my wife s birthday last night and had very high hopes. We sat at the chefs counter as we ve done a couple times before and have always had an amazing experience. Maybe just an off night last night, but everything came so fast, it felt as if they were just trying to turn over our table. We asked for everything to be slowed down a bit after the starters came at the same time as the cocktails, but it just kept coming. The food overall was good (some minor oversights on preparation and dietary restrictions) but at +$400 we expected more all around and left feeling disappointed
Very interesting place. The name does not fit well for the menu. I enjoyed my experience but the $$$ for the food was not reasonable. I had to go eat something else after because I was still hungry.
We were Invited to Celebrate my husband s birthday by a good friend. First time at Tuck Shop and it amazed me very much. Food are very delicious, staff are kind, the decor are very nice. Highly recommend. Food
Ok you are looking for good and tasty food ? With nice staff ? With real homemade cook ? So please try Tuck shop probably now one my favorite place in Montreal.
Very good our waiter was nice and atmosphere was beautiful and the service was extremely quick. You can wait 15 minutes and get your hanger steak. The atmosphere was also very nice.
As always, the food is very good. However, I did find it very pricey. I know the products are local and very fresh, but TS isnt the only trendy restaurant with fresh ingredients, but they are a lot more $$$. We go out to dinner for an experience, for a night out, etc., so I dont mind spending if there is value there. What made me the most disappointed is how quickly our table was turned around. (This is where the 3* for service comes from - our server was very pleasant and knowledgeable so I dont want to take anything away from that). We had three courses served within 1h20mins max. We werent even seated for 1.5 hrs! While I understand there is a system, when Im spending $100+ on a meal for one person, I expect to actually be able to enjoy my meal. Our reservation was at 7pm and we literally were walking out of the restaurant by 8:15-8:20pm. Ive been to TS several other times and never had this experience so I hope it was a one off, but I cant say Ill be back anytime soon because I certainly didnt get the experience or night out I was hoping for.
Firstly I am not a person who usually posts reviews -basically if I dont feel its worth a second visit -then I dont go back-but for TuckShop feel I need to -this is a place my wife has been wanting to go for some time now and finally she got a reservation. The staff experienced and well trained But -talk about overpriced....I have no issues paying for food as long as we get what we pay for-I had the lamp for $56 -well if you remove all the fluff fluff from the plate -there was no more than 3ounces of actual lamp. Wife had hungar steak for another $57 -with fries -honestly give a Ribsteak for a little more everyday of the week. Summary-alot of expectations after waiting for months -absolutely not worth the wait . Like I said -I dont mind paying $200 per couple but here you do not get what you pay for . Just to finish -as I and my buddy walked in after dropping off the ladies -an attendee just asked if we are looking for the 2 ladies at which point he said you guys must be in the doghouse cause you are going to pay plenty for the mealunquote. Montreal is full of restaurants -choice another. Sorry
First, lets address the outside of the restaurant, looks a bit too sketchy for the price point, however as soon as we got through the doors, its definitely well decorated. Second, the chef seat (seats facing the kitchen). It was really interesting to watch the cooks, however, the main focal point that we could see, he wasnt prepping our food, except the oysters, he was prepping for the shift (we arrived as they opened, 5pm). I was hoping to see more of our dishes garnished/prepped, since we went for the sampling menu. Third, the drinks, we cant comment as we dont drink alcohol and chose to just stick with water. Fourth, the food.you can tell the cooks are exquisitely skilled and masters at what they do. That being said, for 100+ per person, I must nitpick. The food was just slightly too salty. Some elements of some dishes I couldnt stomach because of the salt levels. For reference, I usually never drink water with my meals, I was chugging water between each course. The ingredients definitely are super fresh and of high quality. The sampling menu is 105$ per person. Portions were big and filling. The food is very good but not fantastic because it was too salty. Fifth, the service. The service is impeccable. The staff is super friendly, knowledgeable, and willing to help. Clean dishes after every service. Lots of water filling. Big smile. Exceptionally attentive. 10/10 The tldr, ambiance 10/10, ingredients 10/10, service 10/10, cook skills 10/10, how salty the dishes were 6/10. Seeing our dished being cooked 4/10 : only saw our oysters being shucked, wouldve been nice to have the chefs talk to us (not a single word was spoken by the chef). I believe your experience will be better than mine, the staff and chefs do seem to take the feedback very seriously. :)
One of the best restaurants in St-Henri. The menu changes a lot, but Ive never been disappointed.
Atmosphere was amazing, service was fast and attentive. But the steak i ordered was overcooked, dry and equivalent to a flank steak i could by from Walmart. Places like these should have food you crave and not only bells/whistles. It s mediocre for the price you pay.
Blown away by the service here. All servers were so kind, polite, and accommodating without being overbearing. The cocktails were on point and the food was excellent and unique, highlighting seasonal quebecois produce. Im still thinking about the mango jasmine cake we had for dessert. Would love to come back again when Im in town and would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone looking for a lovely dining experience.
The food is of very good quality and the menu is very well thought out, but the atmosphere is almost unbearable. Music way too loud, tables too close together. In short, avoid for a meal alone. Otherwise, although the waiter was friendly and available, he was not helped by the kitchen which delayed too much between courses, thus breaking the rhythm of the dinner. Small suggestion: more diversity when it comes to glasses of wine on the menu.
Everything was great, the service was impecable from the greeting at the door and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable the food was excellent, asparagus, pork belly and oisters were the stars and very good the whole table raved about it all. The outside terrace was an unexpected surprise. Highly recommend my only regret was not being able to taste everything on the menu.
Great place and food! Service was top notch!
Update April 2024, as good as ever! Wine list, service and food were 5 stars. If you want to splurge on a special occasion this is a top spot in Montreal to do so! Superb service and food. The food speaks for itself. Fresh ingredients, delishious dishes with great flavors. The service is some of the friendliest, most bilingual ive had recently. Could be a little over bearing if you dont want someone checking in on you very often, but for me it added to the night. Duck appetizer, the duck main and the roasted quail.
Best place for oyster and carrots cake
Weve been to Tuck Shop a handful of times now. I never walk into a restaurant expecting to be disappointed, but the old addage goes nobody bats a thousand. Tuck Shop. Tuck Shop bats a thousand. This time around we started with the Quebec snow crab legs, followed by the duck breast and the lobster pasta. The crab was sweet, and able to speak for itself. They got out of the way, took the deshelling difficulty with them, and let the flavour shine (with flavoured mayo and cocktail sauce on the side, should one want to dabble). The lobster pasta was perfectly cooked, and not over salted - something I have experienced with so many lobster pasta dishes in the past, that I figured thats just how the world worked. The duck breast dish was the star of the show for me. My amateur words cannot give the flavour its dues. The Dion Waiters award goes to the celery root puree that put up big numbers in a limited game time. Dessert was the olive cake (with rhubarb and vanilla ice cream), and a peach frozen yogurt sandwich. Strong contenders, but still unable to dethrone the homemade apple pie we had on our first visit as my Tuck Shop dessert GOAT. The service was quick, and ever-friendly - a staple of any visit to Tuck Shop. The recommended wine pairings for our mains were right on the money. (Disclaimer: we are far from sommeliers or wine connoisseurs.) We are already looking forward to our next Tuck Shop adventure.
Amazing food wine and service. Wow. Really a 5 star. Salad was insane. Rabbit was to die for. Barolo from 2011
Fav restaurant in Montreal!
This restaurant never disappoints!
Great food, excellent service, small location. Oysters are a must. Cant pick which dish was the best - soooo good! Reservations required.
Beef tartare was way too salty, couldnt taste anything else. Bacon wrapped rabbit was delicious. Shucked snow crab special was great, so much easier to eat. Brussel sprouts had a nice sauce. Hibiscus ice cream sandwich was perfect, though not sure why it was wrapped up like a soap bar. Great music selection. Excellent service. House martini was like a Lemon Drop, definitely enjoyable. The recommended Cabernet red was a great accompaniment.
We arrived and Louis took care of us from the start. We were a group of 6 and everything was amazing including the best Rabbit dish I ever had. From the fresh oysters to the dessert, just exceptional food and service beyond our expectations. Food
Food was awesome! Service was very attentive. We really enjoyed our evening out - thanks for a great time. We ll definitely be back!
This place lived up to its expectations! Not only was the food incredible, but they did the little things such as making sure our water glasses were full, clearing the plates and cleaning the table promptly. The main courses were spot on and you could taste the flavors in every bite. We tried items that we normally would not and we were overwhelmingly surprised at how well it was cooked and the seasoning. Oh and the desert, was some of the best we have had. We will definitely come back and cant wait to see what new items they have on the menu.
Because one of our friends was sick and couldnt come, we had one less person than the reservation. The waiter was very impatient with us. I asked clearly when I made the reservation whether it was my friends birthday and whether we could bring a birthday cake, and they said yes. When we arrived, we were told that we needed to pay an additional 20$ per person for the birthday cake. There was no mention of an additional charge during the phone call. We waited an hour after ordering before we got our meal, and the steak was completely mushy. Emmmmm...I probably wont go back again.
An amazing St-Henri staple that we love to go when we want to celebrate something special. Friendly service and not pretentious at all. Best thing to do: get a few dishes to share so you taste as many as possible!
I found it too salty and not as flavorful as in the past. For the price range I expected much better. Also in their new shed space it was too hot. A few years ago I tasted the best version of a lobster roll to date.
Great food, great service, not too expensive.
Outstanding restaurant with excellent servers. Excellent wine list and cocktails. Please try and come here if youre visiting Montreal or of course live in Montreal!
Great food, service, and ambiance! Highly recommend!
We were 5 women- shared 5 appetizers and 3 mains and 1 dessert - our bellies were very satisfied. Delicious! Service, ambiance and food all excellent. This was not my first visit, but for the rest, it was their first time and they definitely want to go back. The staff even folds your serviette when you get up to go to the restroom! That added touch is much appreciated.
The tab on the menu was served with fries that were so salty! I havent finished my plate. The waiter warned me that he had informed the chef of the fries that were too salty. I think Im going to have mouth ulcers post Tuck Shop Nothing was offered to replace or compensate! For a restaurant that calls itself gourmet, it should be approached with a little more professionalism! The pasta dish my boyfriend had looked like a homemade pasta dish on a depressed evening. No elegance. Bistro quality at premium prices Ugh
Upscale, trendy, very loud. The food was amazing and the selection was very interesting. We did have to wait awhile for our food but it was worth it. The alcohol menu was a bit limited (cocktails, beers, glasses of wine) except the wine bottle selection was very extensive. Our server Kirsten was exceptional as was the rest of the wait staff. I d highly recommend Tuck Shop if you don t mind a bit of volume.
Every dish was incredible
Great food, friendly service, highly recommend!
I go there often but this time, my meal was more than mediocre, the pasta looked pitiful, tasteless, just stupid pasta thrown into the bottom of the bowl, as if we were making fun of the customer. Parking: Several
Fine dining prices for decent quality. Can find dishes like this for significantly cheaper anywhere in mtl. $21 for 12 poorly cooked Brussel sprouts for example is absurd. Server was rushing us out the entire time.
Thanks for fitting us in last minute! Everything was absolutely delicious, from the wine to the apps and mains. You blew us away
The food is tasty and well presented but perhaps the portions are a bit small for a man. The focaccia is regular Italian type of bread, not worth the 10$. The 3 desserts were delicious. Should take out a table to create a bit more space along the wall, feels too crowded
Very nice restaurant in the Saint Henri district. I had the beef steak, the portion was very generous and I enjoyed it! The cocktail I had was really good too. I will come back to try the wine list next time!
Our server Kirsten was excellent. Parking: Parking is increasingly difficult in the area. Food : 5/5 |
Tuck shop has always been a montreal institution. Their menu is seasonal and the place is super cozy and charming, but the one thing that truly stands out and resonates with you is their impeccable service. It was my third time there, and I can honestly say that the service really elevates your experience. We had the cod croquettes and beef tartare to start and then shared the roasted trout and the truffle tagliatelle. Their beef tartare is simple and delicious, perfect consistency and zing. The code croquettes had the perfect crunch, and were flaky on the inside. The tagliatelle was definitely freshly made, the sauce was buttery and the white and black truffle shavings were the start of the dish. All their wines were privately imported, and the waitress helped us select a wine to suite our palate. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience and I highly recommend Tuck shop to anyone that appreciates good food and a cozy ambiance.
Tuck Shop saved what could have been a terrible night. After being ignored for 25 min at a nearby popular restaurant we audibled and called Tuck Shop. It was late but they fit us in. Everything was stellar - service, vibe, and oh the food. So glad we ended up there. Will be back!
Great place great food and service
The food is always good. The issue is the atmosphere. Tuck Shop has built a wood cabin as an extension in the back and it is HORRIBLE. Dont ever book that spot. It is not properly insulated and is always either too hot or too cold. I went with my wifr and as a couple we spent $300 on food and wine, but I personally had to get up and down about 10 times to turn on and off the electric floor heater they installed. It either felt like a sauna or it felt like a fridge. Im sorry, for a $300 meal, I expect more. A lot more. Take my advice and DO NOT accept their offer for the extension area booking. So bad. Avoid avoid avoid!
Prices were high for what the restaurant is. It was too crowded for me, I d be at peace if it was mentioned in the description that it would be a loud and crowded place I wasn t expecting such close quarters to other patrons and having to be so close to the servers rear end when they d serve the table beside us. The starters were good, oysters were absolutely fantastic and the tar tar remarkable, the mains were dull cappelletti pasta was too thick, undercooked and over salted, and the duck dish s other components which were the sausage and the croquette thing didn t make sense to the orientation of it all. The server that we had looked depressed which really set the tone for the whole meal; however the other servers were actually good, I d wish they served us instead of the other girl. I brought my aunt for her 42nd birthday here and I wish it would ve been better.
Had a fabulous meal - service impeccable. The cod fish croquette was a little salty for my liking but overall a 5 star experience. They really care for the customer experience.
Classic Montreal gem with consistently amazing food
I recommend. Excellent food. Good portion Quality and freshness of ingredients. Good service. Expensive but worth the cost.
5 stars without trying to be. Seasonal menu, always fun. Great cocktails
Excellent small plates and entrees. Tuck Shop is well worth it. The food is incredible and the service exceptional. The staff were present without being overbearing. I cant recommend the pork belly, or the duck enough. Both were incredible. Despite being quite busy the atmosphere is cozy creating a fun bustling vibe.
Food was delicious, good portions & great service
Food was too pricy for what it was, and they squeezed you next to other people. The starters were OK: Squid was a bit dry and small, but ok, and the pork belly was quite good. The foccacia was probably the highlight. The mains were deceiving : the duck was dry and chewy, and the risotto was probably the worst I had in my life: not cooked enough, watery, and overly salty. The wine was decently priced, and the service was really good! Will not return. I think anyone with proper MTL restauration experience will find this place as not worth it.
One of my favourite restaurants in Montreal. Insane delicious food (must try the steak!!) A little pricey but so worth it for a treat! Good service as well and great drinks
A gem of an establishment
I enjoyed my time there. The octopus was great and the apple pie was delicious. However, the portions are tiny considering the price. Great service overall.
Delicious and super waitstaff. Manager was unfortunately pretty arrogant and constantly yelled at employees publicly - if you can put that behind you, a great meal but otherwise maybe ideal to support a stronger employer.
An absolute must try restaurant. Have been here multiple times and it always exceeds expectations. Truly one of the best restaurants in Montreal! Amazing service and just exceptional food!
Food, service and ambiance were exceptional! Thank you for a wonderful night!!
A truly amazing culinary experience at Tuck Shop, located in the Saint-Henri neighborhood of Montreal, Quebec. Every single dish from the menu was delicious and memorable. On the menu: Seafood platter: Half lobster, 6 oysters, scallops, shrimp cocktail, Salmon rillette. Grilled octopus: Capers, garlic butter grenobloise. Kamouraska lamb tartare: Baba ghanoush, menthe, lavash. PEI rib steak for two: Black trumpet mushroom sauce, creamed kale, Hasselback potatoes. Dessert: Dark chocolate bar: Graham cracker, hazelnuts, raspberry sorbet. Yogurt panna cotta: Citrus supremes A massive thank you to Brian (@mtlraised), who has artfully, whipped up a beautiful, fresh seafood tower within moments, and Jeremy for the amazing service. I was so looking forward to my visit to the Tuck Shop. Eventually... They were in such a hurry the whole time. Let me order a glass of Mezcal 5 minutes before being kicked out to make way for the new arrivals. Too much money wasted in an hour and a half on a company that doesnt value its customers. Very ordinary experience.
Ambience is welcoming and charming. Staff is attentive and knowledgeable. The food is to die for. We enjoyed every single bite. Definitely fine dining. Considering the quality, the prices are more than reasonable. Do yourself a favor and experience it for yourself. One of the best restaurants in Montréal.
It was our favorite restaurant and we wont go back there again...super rush service of 1:30. People come to us to tell us to leave... for a dinner costing over $300, I dont want to be told to leave the place before Ive even finished my bite of dessert. Sad observation!
The servers are very professional and very friendly. The wine and cocktails were relatively good. For the rest, the dishes are distressingly banal, the portions are absolutely not adapted to a restaurant that claims to be of this standard, and the price is simply surreal given what we had on our plates. 40 dollars for a sea bass fillet which is probably the worst we have eaten in our lives, 35 dollars for duck sausages which are no better than those we buy in the supermarket. We were very eager to try this famous restaurant in Montreal and this was one of the worst experiences we had here. Instead and for a few extra dollars, dont hesitate to reserve a table at Mastard which offers a 5-course menu for $75 and a real experience that will be remembered for a long time!
So good!!!
What a warm, welcoming ambience to catch-up with friends. We did family style appetizers and then ordered our own entrees. Delicious!
Amazing food, the staff is very attentive, I absolutely loved my experience. I hope Marco makes excellent martinis.
Great staff, great wine, for food Id say not so special, there are better places with similar price range, we found the food underwhelming and the prices high such as for pork chop milanese was pretty much a simple schnitzel with side salad for 37$, not worth it.
Food is pricey but delicious & service is great! 5stars for the water service - your glass is always full ;)
Both the food and service were exceptional. We had a reservation but ended up having to wait about 25 minutes for our table, which ended up being more than okay since they offered to bring us drinks. At the end of the night, the wait staff informed us that the first round of drinks were on the house, as were the selection of desserts they brought out to our table! Also, I typically don t have high expectations when it comes to vegetarian options at non-vegetarian restaurants, but they had one vegetarian main - some type of ravioli - that was ammmazzinnng. Would come back just for that!
arguably the best restaurant in the city. the tuck shop team is friendly and attentive. the food and atmosphere are top notch.
The food was exquisite 4 of us shared apps the main course was beyond beautiful and cook ed to perfection. The deserts were beyond decadent and plays of traditional items that were so perfectly paired combinations it was like a sympathy in your mouth .
Food was delicious and bartenders were awesome!
Nice place, good service. Unfortunately extremely noisy and very condensed. The limit of 2 hours per table must be respected. I would recommend the octopus with my eyes closed, impeccable. The other dishes are good.
Phenomenal phenomenal meal. Literally a culinary experience. Came to Montreal strictly to eat the city s best food, and Tuck Shop showed fantastically . Staff, ambience, and dishes were perfection. A must to foodies .
My fiancé brought me here for my birthday dinner. We ordered a bottle of wine that a busboy accidentally knocked over shortly after (with our wine glasses too). We were both in black, so you cannot see the mess, but we were both drenched in red wine. It was all over our pants, got on my phone and purse. It was uncomfortable. Once we finished our dinner, we received a bill and were completely shocked by the fact that they did not try to make it right in any way. After complaining, they offered us my 15$ dessert on the house. After complaining again, they agreed to give us the bottle for free (the bottle that spilled all over us!). It was disheartening to see how little they cared about providing good customer service and hospitality. Dinner should have been on the house - without us having to ask for anything. Though the food was enjoyable, it seems like their main focus is on making money, rather than ensuring their customers have a positive experience. As a result, we wont be returning.
5 happy guests Wheelchair accessibility: 1 step to take
Absolutely love this place! The food is always great, the staff is so accommodating & the atmosphere is always so cozy. We did a vegetarian tasting menu with wine pairing, worth every penny!
Definitely the best meal I ve had since moving to Montreal over a year ago, which is saying something. Great vibe, service is on-point but the food is the main event, which definitely delivers. Looking forward to my next visit.
The welcoming and prompt service provided by the incredibly friendly staff was a highlight of my dining experience here. Their delightful and warm approach created a truly inviting atmosphere that added positively to the overall ambiance. However, there were aspects that could be improved. The music volume was quite high, which made enjoying conversations at the dinner table a tad challenging. Furthermore, the food, while satisfactory, didnt quite match the premium prices. A particular note was the choice of cilantro on the steak, a combination that didnt sit well with my palate. In terms of overall food quality, a little refinement would help align the cost with the culinary experience. With these adjustments, this establishment has the potential to elevate its dining experience to new heights.
Eating at the Tuck Shop means treating yourself to gastronomy in a bistro atmosphere. The welcome and service are of a high level. Prices are as high as in a Relais et Châteaux restaurant. So if you want to go there, its high end. Our meal was excellent and the dessert delicious. It is possible to share dishes and this makes it a restaurant where you feel good. Enjoy the small terrace but arrive early.
The vibe and atmosphere was great. Super friendly staff. Attentive, always on the ball and fantastic. The food was great. Oysters amazing. Local ingredients. Vibe of the open kitchen, unpretentious staff, louder and chatter restaurant was refreshing. I think it hit a lot of great points. I think where it lost for me, was trying to compare the price points to other fine dining. It came up short. In terms of the knowledge of the staff on the wine recommendations, the level of service overall, and for me, the quality of the food. Those were all there, just not perhaps for the proce point they are reaching for. Did I enjoy my time. It was great. Would I spend another night out there. No. Would I recommend it. Id say, what I said above. Its not for everyone. But itll be for someone. :) They also missed the reservation notes it was my birthday. Which was kind of a bummer. But hey!
Truly excellent! Great experience!
Delicious food, awesome drinks and great service.
Yummy very very good!!
Gastronomy is on offer at this address but be careful with your budget! The prices are sometimes exaggerated especially for the neighborhood! The service is attentive and the bistro atmosphere is overall pleasant but noisy! Best starter: mushrooms but not fried! The desserts are generally nice!
You know what youre getting into here: copious amounts of high quality food, for a high but fair price. We came as a group of ten and they prepared us a 4-course meal which featured a lamb roast as the main attraction. Everything was expertly crafted and a basic foodie like me cant begin to nuance the greatness with other similar places. We had a lot of food and I took home the leftovers and had them for lunch for 3 more days. I loved the lobster roll, oysters and scallops especially, but everything was good. The restaurant had a great vibe, playing music from the late 90s early 00s, lots of people chatting away and overall just having fun. Our waiting staff was ridiculously well prepared, they worked as a team and brought us an immaculately orchestrated experience. Hats off, one of the best restaurants in Montreal Ive been to.
One of the best restaurants I ve been to in a very long time Service was impeccable, they DID NOT miss a beat. Food was outstanding: they don t skimp on quality People working there were super cool, SUPER friendly, & welcoming. Atmosphere 100/10
Perfect atmosphere, welcoming staff, attentive and professional service, beautiful balance of flavors in the dishes, very nice wine list! The prices are perfectly reasonable and the quality is there. :)
Delicious caviar. Attentive service. Perfect portions of lamb and fish.
Just celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary at Tuck Shop and it was just amazing amazing amazing! From the outstanding choices of scallops crudo, matane shrimp, beef tartare, swordfish, and triangular asparagus and ricotta pasta, everything was delicious. Five stars to Kirsten who served us - she was an absolute gem! Overall incredible service! Thank you so much for an incredible evening! Mary and Robert
Incredible restaurant, impeccable service and delicious food!
Superb experience yesterday at the Tuck Shop, the food is excellent, the portions generous which makes it easy to share. What stood out to us the most was the service: exceptional from start to finish. The people are smiling and friendly, and we have a great time. We had dinner on the terrace but the decor inside is simple and refined, in very good taste.
Because their back terrasse has a roof, it s possible to make outdoor reservations. I have a depressed immune system, so when restos started opening up after the pandemic, these reservations meant I could have the first dining-in experience I d had in literally years. The service is always top-notch. This isn t what I d term a child-friendly place as far as the menu goes, but recently, previous reservations fell through, and I was casting about for a place to take guests, including a well-behaved 8-year-old. The kid in question felt a bit shy at first ( Is this place kid friendly? she whispered to me), but the server didn t blink an eye, and once an extra order of fries was procured for a steak (shared, sauce on the side for further inspection), all was well. I m not saying to bring your kids there, but I do think class isn t about what you wear or how much money you spend, but how you treat people. The food here is, of course, always excellent, but we keep going back because they make you feel like they care about what they serve and how they serve it, which in my mind, makes them a real classy joint. As a side note, they have a lot of stuff with local mushrooms, so you ll be quite happy if that s your jam. Sadly, I have an instinctual aversion to the texture of the darn things, but I make sure to take my partner here from time-to-time so he can have some good mushroom experiences.
As usual, fantastic food, service and wine list. Never disappointed when I come here!
I can t speak highly enough of Tuck Shop. A true St. Henri gem. The staff, the atmosphere, and the food always exceed expectations. The restaurant has become our family staple for any celebration and tradition. A special anecdote, in January during a really cold Montreal night, they had to cancel my partners birthday reservation because of their generator freezing (if I recall correctly). The manager messaged me personally to coordinate an alternative reservation at another restaurant within an hour. A few months after, when we returned to dine at Tuck Shop, they treated us to desert and focaccia in consideration to what had happened. This shows how caring and devoted the staff is to making everyone s experience a formidable one. Thank you Tuck Shop for the great memories and experiences over the years.
Came here for a birthday and the service was probably the worst dining experience I ve ever had in Montreal. When I say they RUSHED us, from the time our order was taken till the moment we finished (not by choice), it was 1 hour. The second our last arrival sat down at the table, the waiter said I m taking your order right now because you re late . She asked for a minute to look at the menu, and he literally hovered over her. She said we d start with appetizers as a group and the waiter said I m taking your order for appetizers and mains at the same time. She said we d need a minute to decide as a group and does he not go One two three to count down the literal minute. At no point did he ask us about drinks. We had to flag someone down and order a bottle of wine, which only came after our mains. They were constantly asking to take plates away even if there was still food on them. It was so extreme, they ruined our dinner to a point that we went to another restaurant afterwards because our group was so upset for our friend s birthday. To spend almost $500 and be given 1 hour, I ve never experienced anything like it.
Top Marks. The atmosphere is great, and the staff was quite attentive and knowledgeable. They even used my name, which I appreciated. I got the Tuna Crudo appetizer, but if I were to go again, Id get the oysters. The Hanger Steak was phenomenal, top 3 steaks Ive had in my life. The olive oil cake for dessert was also great. Highly recommend.
This is the best service I have had in years from a restaurant. They pay attention to details and staff seem to enjoy working there. They accommodated Gluten free without fuss. All ingredients are fresh. I will go back. Dietary restrictions: Allergy Accomodation Gluten-free
In my top restaurants of Montréal !
The service was excellent. However, we had to wait 20 minutes even with a reservation to a get a table. This is quite understandable for a friday night, and they will gladly serve you drinks while youre waiting. The food was honestly beyond my expectations. The portions are very generous compared to other fine dining restaurants and are worth the price. We ordered the tuna crudo, hanger steak, and two desserts. Everything was phenomenal! The steak easily feeds two people.
Food is excellent. The frozen tiramisu is the best desert I have ever had. Carpaccio is delicious as is steak/frites. All other dishes especially Halibut were top notch. One thing to be aware of is the noise level inside the restaurant. Highly suggest back patio on a nice summer evening
Exceptional! Its been a long time since Ive enjoyed such a complete experience: attentive service, delicious food and a pleasant atmosphere. I recommend without hesitation! My new favorite!
A Montreal staple. Incredible food. Very fresh, farm to table. Extremely welcoming and friendly vibe. Food
This was one of the best eating experiences I have ever had. We had a late night reservation and were greeted so enthusiastically which was refreshing since so often servers are exhausted by the end of the night but this place was so welcoming. We had delicious cocktails while admiring the stunning decor. The vibes were spot on, the music was great, the interactions between staff members was so fun to watch and THE FOOD! This was one of the best meals I have had ever. I laugh/cried after the first bite. Our server noticed and brought me back to the kitchen so I could tell the chefs that I was crying. Hahaha! I used to work in restaurants and this felt so awesome! I highly recommend Tuck Shop and will be visiting again when we are back in Montreal!
Woke up in a panic last night. Realized I went to Tuck Shop, had one of the best meals of my life and didnt leave a review. *Face palm* Definitely reserve ahead of time because it can be tough to get a last minute table due to popularity. Said popularity is well deserved because these gals and guys know what theyre doing. Service is incredible. Wait staff really knows their stuff and it makes for such a comfortable experience. Words dont do the food justice. Just get your glutes through the door and treat yoself. If theyre still there, get the ribs. Steal it off the neighboring table if you have to! Theyre that good. Portions are all fairly sized and can be split if youre looking to try several items. Restaurant is cozy but its not too much close quarters. Casual vibe. Wine list is cool with some hard finds on it. Check this place out!
Amazing food and service! The waitress was very nice and was super attentive. Steak was incredible! Food
Fantastic food. Still thinking about the foccacia after two weeks
This resto has been around for awhile for a reason. Great food, ambience and Service.
Sososososo good !!
All great, food is delicious, however the wine list is quite overpriced.
5 Star
scotch is inconsistently priced (not on menu), seems they make up the prices as they go. Way over priced compared to better restaurants in the city. Service is rushed / not welcoming, it seems they want to rush your order, take it all in one shot. Not interested in coming back, you spend a fortunate without the service.
Good appetizers. Main : the beef really tasted like fish which suggests some kind of contamination with the fish station. The dishes were a bit too salty. It feels like the kitchen staff was not the main kitchen team. It lacked finess overall. The staff barley apologized. Not the most welcoming staff, cordial but nothing much. Also they almost charged us twice.
Spontaneously walked in here and got a spot for two for an aperitif or two no regrets at all! Oysters are some of the freshest I ve had in the city, bluefin tuna crudo was also very fresh and citrusy. We also got the focaccia and duck prosciutto which were delicious and accompanied by really great olive oil. Also asked the bartender for a dirty martini, and it ended up being one of the best I ve had. You will leave satisfied! As for the atmosphere young (no kids) and old, dressed up and casual. Bathrooms were clean too. I will say it does get quite loud in there so keep that in mind.
Expensive but a very cozy restaurant
Looking up tuck shop I realize I ve never taken a minute to review what s consistently been our favorite resto in Montreal for the past five years. Can t wait to be back!
Ask for Marshal he s the best amazing food great experience perfect service recommended top in Montreal
We had a reservation for two, but that didnt seem to matter much. The table we were assigned to had us so close to the couples sitting on either side of us that it was unpleasant for everyone. I was sitting closer to the stranger beside me than my wife across the small table. On top of that, I could smell the restrooms from where we were sitting. We asked the waiter to switch tables as we arrived since there were open tables at the front, but we were told theyd prefer to put these separate tables together for parties of 4 instead of making sure three other parties of two enjoyed their dinner. I really liked that answer since some parties of two were using tables fitting four. If you dont mind being squeezed in like sardines and have a 4 way conversation with strangers, then go ahead -- but if you prefer to have a bit of space to breathe between bites and cant confirm youll have a decent table at the front or maybe on the terrasse, then you might want to look elsewhere.
First time and won t be the last time.
My husband and I were really disappointed with our dining experience at Tuck Shop. We were celebrating our anniversary and we had made reservations. The restaurant was empty when we went in except for 1 couple. They sat us exactly next to that couple (as if we were a table of 4). The next couple who came in were also seated exactly to our left. Very awkward and uncomfortable for all of us. The cocktail was 19$ plus tax plus tip. I saw the bartender shake it and prepare it in 10 seconds, not even a garnish on it, what a joke. How hard is it to put a sprig of thyme to amp it up? Hoping the food would impress us after all the rave reviews, it really didn t. We took the hanger steak and fries, horrible meat cut. My knife couldn t even cut it, imagine chewing it, so nervy. The pork chop was just ok, nothing exciting and would not want to order it again. We had the chanterelle starter on focaccia, once again, nothing memorable and nothing tying it together.
Chill place. We spent 900
Good food, friendly staff, worth to try it.
We had beef tartar, halibut, duck, and the strawberry smore. Everything was delicious! Great service!
Stop rushing people through their meals. The first time I went it was like this but not the second time, which led me to assume this was an anomaly. Went again last night and we couldn t have been rushed quicker through our meal, it was our main conversation throughout our dinner (!!!) It was almost comical. Won t go back until I know that this has been rectified.
Grossly overpriced, just ok food and small portions to boot. Both $80+ wines were mediocre at best. I know the pandemic changed the way restaurants do business, but this was highway robbery. Too bad because both the service and ambience were great. Beware of the high marks given on the google reviews - you might be deeply disappointed.
We ve been to Tuck Shop a few times and the food is always top notch! This most recent time we went to celebrate our anniversary, and I had indicated that when I made the reservation. Every staff member congratulated us and mentioned it, they even brought our dessert out with a candle to celebrate! Our waiter Gabriel went above and beyond throughout the night, he was friendly and helpful with recommendations! This place is a must try for the delicious food and the amazing staff!
Food , atmosphere and service is incredible. You can never go wrong here. Every item we ordered was amazing
Extraordinary food, unbelievable service. Can t recommend enough.
Food was amazing! Service wow one of the best I ve had. The only minor thing was that it was so hot in the restaurant but asides from that 10/10! Best oysters I ve had! The beef tartare and duck soooo good. The show stopper was the lamb ragou pasta though Will be back!
The culinary finesse and aesthetic appeal of the dishes at Tuck Shop are flawlessly complemented by the staffs top-notch service. As regulars who often celebrate special occasions here, my wife and I are continually charmed by the experience. My go-to dish is the hanger steak served with chimichurri and accompanied by crisp fries, while my wife usually opts for the freshest catch of the day. If available, dont overlook the focaccia its a flavour-packed masterpiece thats nothing short of divine.
You need to go here! We were immediately greeted by friendly staff and taken to our table. Our water glasses were full the entire time thanks to the attentive waiters. Our server Gabe gave a fantastic wine recommendation and he made the experience so enjoyable! The atmosphere was beautiful between the dimmed lights and lovely music. The food was *chefs kiss*. I ll fly back to Montreal just to come here again!
Very ordinary
Food is great, limited menu but great options and very tasty. Atmosphere super comfy. Extra points for the amazing service, all the staff was super accommodating with our toddler who couldnt stay in place!
Very nice dinner! We had a veru good service from our waiter Gabriel!
A+ for food, service and vibe. Welcoming staff made it a lovely experience for our anniversary dinner.
Just because we don t speak French, the waiter host was super unfriendly and not welcoming us He told us no more table, bye but when we left, I saw another couple speak French coming in and he let they wait in line Do not come here if you don t speak French no matter how hype it is Add-on to the owner response: we never said you guys don t let us in because of the reservation but of your host attitude which clearly show on his face when he ask us to repeat what we said 2nd time and the way he response no reservation? No more table- bye and turn away without a smile or even bother to explain that you guys don t do walk in but we can reserved for another date - it is clearly unprofessional no matter how high peak or hype you guys are. Based on the owner response, I believe everyone can clearly tell how they train their employees too, will not bother try to come back or support. Hope you guys can always be crowd and packed :)
Fantastic meal - very memorable. Everything we had was delish and unique - when you go out for a special meal you don t want to think I could make this at home. The wine recommendations were also spot on.
Amazing food and service! The oysters were delicious. I will be back :)
Everything is absolutely delicious, the flavors are perfectly combined, happiness for the taste buds! I loved my experience. The service there is impeccable. I recommend this restaurant!!!
It was good, nothing more and very expensive. Also very noisy.
Would be great if they add nore tables I think theres plenty of.room between tables at the moment ....
Always delicious! One of my favourite restaurants in Montreal!
A tasteless mix of flavors and textures. I took a few bites of the main course and wasnt able to continue. Luckily our waitress didnt charge us for this dish. I regretted the little I ate because it caused me significant digestive problems...
Great vibe. Delicious food. A bit expensive. But definitely worth it
Food was fantastic, loved the pairings of flavours! Gabriel was amazing, everything he suggested complimented eachother perfectly. Especially the wine and ravioli combo
Fantastic meal with even better service!
Superb restaurant that lived up to my expectations. Everything I ate there was good and the place was very beautiful. I will come back for sure! The only downside was that the beer I had was a little oxidized I think because this one is usually better. Vegetarian options: There were several vegetarian choices Dietary restrictions: Servers ask if you have any allergies before taking your order
Very good restaurant, with quality products! Special mention for the rack of pork which is delicious. I also really appreciated the way the waiters looked at the dishes they brought. Even they who see the plates passing by all day look at them with love and desire
Food is delicious
