We had a wonderful experience on a cold winter night at the Gaspar Tavern. The menu selection was varied; we split an appetizer and each had a main course. The portion sizes and seasoning we spot-on. Wanted to have dinner in Old Montreal after spending time in other areas of the city. This was an easy walk from our hotel. Made a reservation online. The vibe is very similar to Paris. Fortunately all staff are bilingual as is the menu, as I did no refresher French lessons. Our server, Rachel, was superb, attentive and gracious. With tables close to another we fell into conversation easily with our neighbors, which my wife enjoyed. Highly recommend this restaurant! Merci to Rachel from the couple from Vermont.

We went for dinner on a busy night. The main dining room was filled with several groups who were enjoying the festivities. Dominic, the maitre d hotel, brought us to a quiet table in the sitting room. It was such a gift to enjoy the delicious salmon and beef dishes in the quiet by a fireplace. This is one of our best memories in Montreal. Thank you.

Had to jump on here and write about my experience last night. As someone who regularly dines out and reviews restaurants, I can honestly say they knocked it out of the park - but not just because of the food. The real MVP of the evening was our server, Dominic. Ive written hundreds of reviews, and its rare that I specifically mention servers by name, but this guy was exceptional. In an age where good service seems to be disappearing, Dominic is keeping the art of waitering alive. The food was definitely top-notch (everything was cooked perfectly and presentation was beautiful), but what made this experience stand out was how Dominic handled everything. No hovering, perfect timing, incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, and just genuinely great at his job. I find myself critiquing service pretty heavily in my reviews, but Dominic legitimately should be teaching other servers how its done. Its refreshing to find someone who treats serving as a profession rather than just a job. Will 100% be back, and will definitely be requesting his section. This is exactly the kind of service that keeps me coming back to a place! Pro tip: His section fills up fast - plan ahead!

My wife and I chose Gaspar for our first meal after arriving in Montreal. We are celebrating our 30th anniversary and we were delighted with our dining experience at Gaspar. Our server/bartender Dahlia was absolutely amazing! Her recommendations for cocktails were spot on, and she also gave us recommendations on places to explore while in Montreal. We highly recommend this restaurant, but more so, we recommend that you sit at the bar while Dahlia is there. She will make sure your experience is a pleasant one. Thank you, Dahlia!

Horrible experience. My relatives that visited from another country and were t familiar with this food culture. We ordered less main dishes than the number of people and shared them. Because of that, we got ignored and unfairly treated. It took forever for us to get the staff every time, and when we do, they were very rude. Steak knives weren t provided with the steak so we asked for some politely, the staff threw a few onto our table as if it s for animals. Ketchup weren t provided for multiple fries on the side so we asked for some, the staff just threw two packets onto our table, while they normally serve ketchup in metal containers. I almost feel ashamed that this is the French cuisine they chose to experience on their last day in Montreal. Won t come here again.

Warning! They don t have fish and chips on the menu. The cod fritters and a side of fries were a good substitute, but I was really looking forward to the fish and chips everyone else ordered in the past. The salmon with ratatouille and couscous was a very tasty entree.

We went to MTL at the table for a 4-course meal this evening and when leaving the restaurant we realized that we had the starter and directly the main course and finally dessert. So $65 for without tax and tips for starter/main course/dessert is a bit expensive. So as you can see the dishes are quite pretty but there is no photo of the mille-feuille dish because we never received it. Im not impressed that we didnt receive what we paid for. Disappointing.

We came in for a Table Dhote a part of Mtl a Table for a 4 service for 65$ not including tax + tip. While the food was great, and beautifully presented- we realized upon getting home that we had only gotten 3 services and not the 4. Gaspar Brasserie had forgotten to serve us the millefeuille. Paid around 100+ with tax and tip while missing an entire service. Disappointed.

What a nice surprise this turned out to be. Went here on a whim and enjoyed a great brunch. Probably the best eggs Benedict I ve ever had . Of that hollandaise sauce was great! The ambiance was both elegant and inviting, setting the perfect tone for an unforgettable evening. A special shoutout to Vana and Chris, who made the night even more delightful with their impeccable service and warm hospitality. Vana crafted a dirty martini that was simply fabulous one of the best I ve ever had! And as if that wasn t enough, her old fashioned was otherworldly, a true testament to her mixology skills. Chris s attentive and personable service made us feel right at home, enhancing the overall dining experience. Their combined efforts ensured that every detail was perfect, making our visit to Gaspar Montréal a memorable one. I highly recommend Gaspar Montréal to anyone looking for a fantastic dining experience with outstanding service. Bravo to the team for a job well done!

There are so many great restaurants in Montreal, but this unfortunately is not one of them. We went for their MTL a La Table menu, which was $65/person (before tax, drinks, etc). I ll summarize below the key highlights of what happened in our rushed ~45 minute dinner: 1. We had a reservation and were sat at a table in the middle of the restaurant. Worst table you could have. Before we ordered, I asked to move to one of many free tables, to which they said no. Later we then saw many people moving and switching tables, so I don t understand why we were denied. 2. We ordered wine and were not able to taste it, they just poured. The wine was expensive and gross. I ve had better for $7/bottle from the depanneur. 3. The courses came out back to back to back sometimes before the previous course was even cleared. It was insanely rushed. I like things to be efficient, but you barely had time to talk or breathe. 4. The food was cold and you could tell it was prepped hours, if not days in advance. I would ve preferred them to take some extra time and actually heat/finish the plates properly. This was just lazy. I will say that the manager was very nice and she did try to offer us some stuff at the end of our meal, but at that point we were so disappointed that we just wanted to leave. Bottom line, this is one of the most disappointing restaurants I ve been to in Montreal. Over priced and extremely subpar. Do a bit of research and go elsewhere.

Excellent service from Marie-Florence, we were welcomed as regulars to the place and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. We ate a bison tartare, a foie de gras starter and a beef cheek and everything was incredible. Epicureans and lovers of good food, you will be delighted. A real gem of old Montreal. In addition, the food and wine pairing proposed by our waitress was perfect, she immediately understood that I liked more full-bodied wines and suggested wines to pair with our main courses. I highly recommend stopping by if you are in the area!

This was a great find for us! It was very crowded, so we sat at the bar. The wine we wanted was unavailable so Marguerite, our bartender/server was AMAZING!!! Nov. 2022 I was born and raised in Montreal, and I have been living in Ontario for 21 years ... well.. this one single visit to Gaspar made me realize how good the food is in Montreal. This was 100% my favorite dinner out in the last 20 year! Dominic, our server was amazing. He was quick, great with menu suggestions and made us feel like special quests. Would 100% recommend this place! Oct. 2024 : Had to go back, and Im not disappointed. The food was once again top notch , and the service was also very good. They were very very busy (overbooked) however, that didnt stop Dominic to check in on us even when he wasnt our Server ! If you havent tried Gaspar... what are you waiting for ?

Very nice restaurant typical of Old Montreal. There is a good atmosphere but it is very noisy The foie gras terrine was excellent but the duck confit was overcooked and too much salad on the plate!!! Vegetables would have been tastier Good service.

Wow, great service and food is very tasty, ambiance is top notch.

The filet mignon was delicious with the polenta but the foie gras sauce didnt have even a hint of foie gras. I tried my friends pasta and it was mediocre. Charcuterie plate was alright. Chocolate torte was a bit too dark, the ice cream helped but we couldnt finish it even when sharing. There were a couple of problems with the service but the server proactively rectified it (without us asking). Price was reasonable by Old Montreal standards. Nice stone walls.

Sorry for the delay in posting haha but I just found the card in my handbag! We were passing through Montreal for the Cirque du Soleil and we stopped to eat at Gaspar, 20 minutes before the kitchens closed. Our very dear waiter Dominic served us like kings and without any pressure to close! Laughter at the privileges hehe and free fries because he found them too cold. His smile, his good humor, his charisma are really highlighted!! We can see that he really cares about his work and that he goes above and beyond for his customer service!! We are from Lac St-Jean and it was a pure coincidence to go eat at Gaspar so late but I was really hungry so our choices were made where I was standing at that moment haha. And it is certain that I will now recommend this restaurant to those around me in MTL and I will make the detour next time to eat there. Hoping to run into Dominic. Good food! Good atmosphere, exceptional service. For having been a waitress for 16 years and a restaurant manager for 3 years! I can say that Dominic is really the type of employee to have. We had the burrata, cauliflower steak and pesto mushroom pasta. Everything was wonderful but the cauliflower steak was exceptional! There was so much flavor infused in it from the grill and the bed of quinoa and mushrooms was perfect with it! Thank you to our server, Marie, for a delightful evening!

Our evening at Gaspar was exceptional. The combination of the warm atmosphere, impeccable service (Thank you Mary!) and outstanding cuisine made for an unforgettable experience. We highly recommend Gaspar to anyone seeking a top-notch dining experience in the heart of Old Montreal.

We had very high hopes for this restaurant. But things went down hill quite rapidly. Our server was in the weeds from the beginning of our seating. It looked like there were only two servers working the entire restaurant and the red headed manager didnt look like he was helping anyone. It took almost 2 hours for our meal. The server forgot one appetizer and one of our streaks was over cooked. It really a shame as the restaurant is quite beautiful and the food that was delivered was good.

Very crowded, very loud. Very slow service - 56 minutes to first course, another 30 to the mussels which were very good. Food is good but not worth the wait.

We usually use the terrace but this is the first time we have eaten inside. The decor and atmosphere are worth the detour. In the summer, it s the friendly Dominique who makes our dinner enjoyable. During our last visit, we had the chance to meet Marie-Florence, who exudes joy of life as well as love of her profession. Definitely a detour worth making!

We loved Gaspar so much we went twice for brunch! Food and service were excellent, and it has a very nice ambience being on the waterfront.

If you have the opportunity to book, dont do it. Terrible customer service. We arrived with a reservation and the waitress in a very condescending way asked at what time we reserved without even checking, and then let us know that they only had 5 dishes to serve at that time of the day. Probably one of my worst experiences in a restaurant in Montréal.

A nice place for a brunch. The shakshuka was a bit strange, different than what Im used to and it had sausage. Otherwise a pleasant restaurant.

I walked in without a reservation, got a great table and was served by a fine waiter named Dominic. I enjoyed delicious oysters and mussels. What a fabulous experience, cheers!
