I took a solo trip to Montreal and it was recommended that I get a reservation. I’m glad I took that advice. I sat at the bar area and I had an amazing experience. The service was amazing, and the food was amazing. I really enjoyed the oyster selection, and the wine and lambic selection was amazing. I got a bottle of fairly priced Cantillon to go with my steak. I had a great time.

I had been looking forward to trying Joe Beef for years, and the experience far surpassed my expectations. Every bite of food, every sip of drink was fantastic. The staff (especially Luna!) are extremely knowledgeable and make you feel like you're dining with friends. Worth every penny. Get yourself in there!

Joe Beef is a Montreal institution located in the Little Burgundy neighborhood near the Lachine Canal. Atmosphere is lively and packed and dishes are decadent and indulgent. Would highly recommend seafood and steak dishes including: oysters, lobster spaghetti, burgundy escargot, steak and ice cream profiteroles. Reservations are strongly recommended. Would budget approximately $250 for party of two.

Came to Joe Beef earlier this year and our experience was phenomenal. From the service to the ambiance and the food, everything was amazing. Our favourite was the famous lobster spaghetti and the marjolaine. Definitely a must try!

I’m still thinking about every single dish! the butternut squash soup with truffle was incredibly comforting, creamy, and had a slightly earthy profile! the hay-baked ham was a delicious starter to the perfectly seasoned strip, bone marrow and potatoes! couldn’t leave without trying the “must-have” 24-layer cake! The service was so friendly and the restaurant itself was so cozy. I am looking forward to returning soon!

I was excited to go to Joe Beef, since I had heard great things for years. Upon entry, we were warmly greeted by several of the staff as we walked through the restaurant to our bar seat. I always try to sit at the bar since you can chat with the staff, as they cook or prepare drinks. The service was outgoing and helpful, and the atmosphere was charming and cozy. We started with the escargot, which were great, but the butternut squash soup was absolutely spectacular, and by far the best thing of the entire meal. After that, we had the duck, and the lobster pasta, which came highly recommended. The duck dish was succulent, apparently “free range” which gave it a bit of a gamey taste, and it came with a gorgeous savoury sauce which included delicious duck hearts. Unfortunately, the lobster claw, (still in its shell), that came with the pasta was a little off, not exactly fresh, but the other parts of the lobster were great. We finished off with the “Profiteroles Poire & Chocolat”, an ice cream, pear, cookie and chocolate dessert. As I understand it, the ice cream was homemade which helped make it a wonderful dessert. All in all, we had a great time, but I have to say that the food was good, but not the kind of “blow your mind amazing” that I hope for from a high-end restaurant.

Visited during a recent trip to Montreal as Joe Beef was universally highly recommended. The restaurant is best known for serving a mix of unique cuisine, including French-inspired dishes in seafood and meat. Service was all staff was very courteous, in greeting and in explaining the full menu. Staff were also able to recommend some dishes to me as a first time visitor, and were able to mention special and off-menu items as well (such as a Beef Wellington which was mentioned in other reviews as a special item). One of their classic dishes was their Lobster Spaghetti, which came with one half lobster served on a bed of pasta. The lobster portion was a generous size, with tail and claws included and made the overall dish fairly filling on its own. As for dessert, the Peaches and Cream (Profiteroles) was a great complement as it was not overly sweet given the syrup and balanced well with the vanilla ice cream. Overall, Joe Beef does live up to its reputation as one of the most highly recommended restaurants in the city. The restaurant has a cozy feel to it and is friendly for solo dining, especially if it’s a seat by the bar where you can occasionally chat with locals or watch staff prepare drinks, oysters and other appetizers in front of you. Highly recommended to get reservations in advance, as reservations open up one month before each day.

What a fantastic experience! This was recommended to me by a friend of mine and it did not disappoint! Mind you, it is a little expensive, however, it is definitely worth it. I had to make a reservation three weeks before I went to Montreal because I know this restaurant gets booked up pretty quickly. So my advice is to make a reservation as soon as you can, if you are planning a trip to Montreal. The food was exquisite and very delicious. The steak was cooked to perfection as well as the baby potatoes. The ambience was great and the service was even better! This is definitely worth a stop and I highly recommend coming here.

Overrated I don t know where to start. First, the vibe there is kind of cool. The interior looks old fashion with very old mirrors, old wall papers and lamps. The waiters are amazing and super friendly. The food on the other end was disappointing. It started well with an amazing butternut squash souping with truffles. This was just perfect. We also had the white ham, which was fine but not great. I had a lot of better hams than that in Europe. Then, we shared the steak with potatoes and the marrow bone. This was actually very disappointing. The quantity was great for two, but the taste was just OK. The marrow was actually served with horseradish and herbs, which kills the taste according to me. The steak was undercooked. We ordered medium but it was actually medium-rare and kind of cold when served. The potatoes were just OK. Overall for a dish that costs 130$, I found it relatively average and overpriced. I did not come for fancy nor cozy, but still, it felt like my grandma food overpriced. Last but not least, this place is noisy as hell. Sometimes impossible to have a conversation I had my experience, after leaving in Montreal for years, but I don t expect to go back. There are better places than that. Tourist trap in my opinion.

I am so disappointed by how underwhelmed I was with this experience. I am a foodie and Follow a lot of major chefs and their careers. Knowing that Anthony Bourdain used to eat here and love the food, made me so unbelievably excited to try this place. I made my reservation in advance and was really looking forward to this experience. The first item that my friend and I tried was tartare. We both looked at each other with a sad expression and agreed it was nothing overwhelmingly great. Oddly enough we had tartare The night before at another Montreal restaurant, Mama C, and we both agreed that that one was so much better. For the main course, we shared the strip stake with potatoes and a side of kale. Sadly, the most exciting part of this meal was the kale. We were both so not impressed. We thought maybe they were having an off night and maybe dessert could redeem the meal. We ordered the layered cake, I am forgetting the name of it, but apparently it s something they are known for. It had layers of chocolate, ganache and cake and mousse. It was only OK. I ve had much better desserts in Montreal. The service was lovely and the ambience was pretty cool. But there is no way that I will be back.

December 15, 2024

I cannot believe a restaurant with such a big reputation could deliver such a terrible experience. The service was absolutely atrocious staff completely ignored us while giving obvious special treatment to other customers. It was disrespectful and humiliating. For a place that is supposedly famous, I expected at least decent food, but even that was a disappointment. The dishes were bland and unremarkable, definitely not worth the hype or the price. This experience was a complete letdown. It s shocking that a place with such a name fails so miserably in treating its customers right. I will never come back, and I strongly advise others to avoid this overrated restaurant unless you enjoy being treated as less important than others.

Stopped in tonight for a lovely dinner with my girlfriend. This was trip number three for me and once again it did not disappoint. Our knowledgeable waiter named Julian was very helpful and very attentive. We started off with some lovely oysters, I had the butternut squash soup and My girlfriend ordered the baked ham. For our mains we shared the filet mignon which was the special of the night and the delicious and Rich lobster spaghetti. When youre planning a trip to Montreal make sure you nailed down a reservation to this amazing restaurant!

To be honest, I was a let down by Joe Beef. When I come to Montreal (6 times/yr), I always like to try different places. I have been to other locations that have received fame from Anthony Bourdain, and they lived up to the hype. Joe Beef on the other hand did not. The overall vibe and the food just felt like they were lazy off the success they had since Bourdain. The food was just okay. Nothing great. Prices were high, which is to be expected and would be fine if it was a unique experience. It was not. I would take your money and try one of the more obscure places where the locales go. This place is just for tourists that have seen it on tv. Perhaps at one time this place was great and innovative, but I think that has passed. I will give them credit for cool ambiance and a great neighbourhood. But I would try one of the other restaurants nearby, like the Burgandy Lion across the road.

Extremely overrated place. The wine list a joke but I understand that s not important for everyone. So, let s focus on the food. Honestly, it s not awful, but its truly mediocre. Every single dish was boring, uncreative, meh. The worst part is the service, though. You can order ten dishes, and they will never pick up the empty plates from your table. You will need to call your server at least five times before someone comes to see what you need. You can easily wait for 45 minutes before they ask you if you want something else. Most servers have a bad attitude the worst is the overweight woman at the front desk. I ll provide details if someone from the restaurant replies to this comment. In the meantine, I cannot recommend more to avoid this place at all costs.

I made a reservation a month in advance and visited. Reservations can be made up to a month in advance, but they are closed on Sundays, and Saturdays from 6pm to 7pm fill up quickly. Foie gras with raisin bread hungarian steak Todays Special: Fillet Steak with Gorgonzola Cheese caramel pudding cafe latte I ordered. The fillet steak was tender and delicious, but the gorgonzola cheese taste was too strong and the taste of the meat disappeared, so I didnt think it was a good combination. 24 Layer cake seems to be famous, but I couldnt find it on the dessert menu. It was about $300 for two people including tip. I thought it was wrong to be asked for a tip. It was delicious, but I wasnt impressed.

We usually go to Liverpool House as we love the menu, and its easier to get a last-minute seat when youre just out of work and feel like having an impromptu date with your partner. However, we thought wed go to its beloved sister establishment this time. We were not disappointed. It had a mix of locals, tourists and people on dates, all looking to have a good time, and I think this is where Joe Beef shines. It caters to many customers and creates an ambiance that works for most. We shared a bunch of plates and let our server recommend wines that would pair well with our selection. It felt like the whole experience was designed for us to enjoy food any way we wanted and without fearing weird looks from other people if we were a little too loud and having too much fun. It felt like everyone was having a good time, including the staff, which is a decreasingly common sight in the increasingly sterile Montreal food scene that sometimes takes itself a little too seriously. Thanks for the food, drinks and the good vibes :)

I find it crazy that I m disagreeing with Anthony Bourdain, but this place was comparable to Chenoys. Not that Chenoys is awful, but it s a last resort spot to eat at late at night. The food was edible at best. A plate like that should cost nothing more than $15.95. The lobster spaghetti was sub-par. The French onion soup was taken away at an inopportune time, before my friend could even dip crostini in it. Also the waitress stood by and looked over my shoulder as I was entering my debit card pin real classy. Never again will I visit.

Let me start off by saying that Joe Beef is the best restaurant I ve ever been to, including places like Le Bernadin and Le Cirque. It is the perfect mixture. On one hand it is unpretentious, like a good neighborhood spot. But when it comes to technique, they are second to none. We come to Montreal every year, sometimes twice, and always dine at Joe Beef. Skipping the menu, we opt for the Joe Beef Experience. This has resulted in the best meals of our lives. This time, April 2, 2024, was no exception. Laura, once again, proved herself a genius by constructing a flawless series of courses for us each paired beautifully with an appropriate wine. She, and Kalina who stopped by to raise a glass with us, always make us feel like friends, not just clients. Years ago I had a recurring dream of the perfect restaurant. Never did I think I d find it, but we did.

I so wanted to give 5 star to this restaurant but decided to give 4. The reason being Desserts. Everything that we ordered was so delicious except the dessert that upset me a little bit. As after having such amazing Appetizers and Mains your expectations with desserts are way too high as it s the last course that you ll be experiencing at the restaurant. We ordered Fois Gras, Halibut and Steak and everything so just amazing. Layered cake - Marjolaine was also 10/10 but the Raspberry Tart was disappointing. Apart from the food, Gabriel was outstanding and showcased top notch hospitality. Dietary restrictions: If you don t prefer alcohol in your food than you ll have very less choices from the menu.

Service: 10/10. Everyone in the restaurant was friendly and outgoing. Our server was fantastic, with an amazing knowledge of the menu and the wine list. The bar back aka the woman assisting all of the servers was an absolute delight. Food: the seafood was so fresh and perfectly seasoned/accompanied. The beef tartare was classic and done to perfection. The steak special was unique and delicious. The lobster spaghetti needs to remain on the menu forever. The desert was dense but light and oh so flavorful. Not too sweet. Almond flour based with layers of jam. Pro tip from one of the bartenders - spread the Chantilly cream on the cake like a frosting. Cocktails: the John Bill and ode to the late seafood master was a rum based cocktail. Crushable and delicious. The dirty martini named Perfect Martini was exactly that. With olives frozen in vermouth. Mock tail for the pregnant wife was a spin on the cosmopolitan. Delicious and balanced.

After seeing Joe Beef featured on one of our favorite shows, Parts Unknown, it became a bucket list restaurant for my husband and I. We were fortunate enough to get a reservation for our anniversary and we were so excited. We werent sure how long it was going to take to Uber there from our Airbnb so we left plenty of time and arrived about 25 minutes early so the staff very kindly set up a couple of chairs and the heater in the little courtyard area outside while we enjoyed some champagne. When our table was ready (only about 5-10 minutes later), our server greeted us and gave an overview of the menu. We opted to pick two items from the menu ourselves, and ask our server to select to select two items she thought we should try. We selected the tuna tartare and the rabbit special they had that evening, which happened to be one of the dishes that Anthony Bourdain ate on the Parts Unknown episode we loved. Our server selected the pumpernickel smorgasbord and the halibut dish. The tuna tartare was prepared tableside and was absolutely delicious - the tuna was delicate and the egg yolk mixture they used to emulsify everything didnt overpower the tuna at all. The crostini and endive leaves it was served with were great, we thought the bitterness of the endive overpowered the tuna just a bit, but it was still delicious. The pumpernickel smorgasbord was truly that, there were so many varieties of delicious seafood on top of the bread. The rabbit was pulled and wrapped around truffles and foie gras. It had a wonderfully rich sauce and the creamiest mashed potatoes Ive ever had. Overall, a fantastic dish. The halibut dish was a great contrast with the vegetal flavor of the cucumbers and the tanginess from the sauce. For dessert, we had the chocolate tart (which came with a side dessert of the most decadent chocolate mousse) and the layer cake, both were amazing. The service was attentive and friendly, I appreciated the humor they all had as well, it made for a really fun evening and the perfect way to celebrate our anniversary.

Went for dinner last night and had the best ever table outside in back and beautiful weather. Our server was so attentive and fun! He was so knowledgeable in everything we asked as well as gave us some seriously amazing suggestions! He was a pleasure to be around :) We had the prime steak which was for 3 of us. It was unreal and perfectly cooked. We were super happy with the portion size and definitely were not left hungry. The 2 sauces that accompanied the steak were so savory and went perfectly with the meat. We also had the lamb which was so tender and flavorful and would highly recommend. As for the wine. Worth every penny. Our server made some suggestions which were spot on. He suggested a wine in between our courses so as not to waste the decadent red that we would have with our mains and it was perfect. Oh and if they have the savory éclair for an appetizer...do it! As well as the ham and cheese starter !! The beef tartar is prepared at the table and hands down best Ive had and I have had many! There was a slight hiccup in our wine service for the mains, which did not bother us at all, as we are patient people and they gave us the most delicious assortment of deserts to make up for it which was so kind. Ive heard people comment on the price of a dinner here but I can guarantee you that if you want high quality food cooked to perfection with the most flavorful combinations then you wont regret it. You pay for what you receive and that is superior service, unbeatable food quality taste and wine.

Great service, some of the best waiters Ive ever encountered! The atmosphere is nice and cozy and the food is overall good (we had beef tartare, lobster spaghetti, filet mignon and duck breast). Overall, this restaurant is extremely overpriced (440 dollars in 3 people plus a kid who only got french fries) and at the end of the day its not worth the wait and the money. The filet mignon was good, but not better than other places and that alone costed 95 dollars. I wont come back.

Solid 2 stars. Had the Canadian prime strip steak with bone marrow and the halibut dish. Cant say its great. The steak was too salty, lacking beef flavour. Texture like a confit which is nice but lacking flavour. Bone marrow was big and filling but also lacking flavour. The halibut was a good size but also lacking flavour. Place is overhyped and very loud. Its busy and the music was blasting. Very lively but not a place to have conversations with friends. $80-90 per person on food. Cant say its worth it. Definitely NOT worth the wait. We made reservations so that didnt bother us.

Wow I can see why everyone raves about this place! Its a beautiful restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating. Definitely make a reso ahead of time! We were sat in the outdoor back section and it was very romantic and cute, with patio lights hanging above our heads. The service here was impeccable and we felt very well taken care of. Our server regularly checked on us and gave us helpful suggestions. The bone marrow custard was soooooo good. So good that I wish I didnt have to share it with my mom and cousin. It was my first time eating escargot. I wasnt a big fan of the dish here because it tasted a little bland to me. It did come with two very big pieces of bread though, and the presentation was very cool. The beef tartare tasted fresh and comes with both crackers and lettuce. You can eat it as is or they can add Tabasco spice. The hanger steak was tender and juicy. I loved the sauce that it came with and I recommend ordering a side of fries to have with it. The fries here were really good! Overall this place has great food, service, and atmosphere. Its no surprise it is always talked about and a must try when visiting Montreal!

My spouse and I had Joe Beef - Liverpool House on our bucket list for quite some time, and we finally decided to make it the setting for our recent date night. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by friendly and attentive staff, immediately setting a positive tone for the evening. It was clear that attention to detail is a priority here; despite not mentioning any food allergies when booking our reservation online, the waiter took the time to confirm that we had no allergies or aversions before we ordered. This small gesture really showed the care they put into their service. We began our meal with the beef tartare, and I can confidently say it was one of the freshest preparations we ve ever had. The quality of the ingredients was evident from the start. The beef had clearly been freshly ground, and our server delightfully mixed all the components right at the table, elevating the experience. For our mains, my spouse opted for the Cornish hen, while I went for the leg of lamb. Both dishes were absolutely fantastic, cooked to perfection with flavors that truly stood out. The Cornish hen was tender and juicy, while the leg of lamb melted in my mouth with its rich, savory notes. We also ordered a side of French fries, which were perfectly crisp and golden, and a side of sourdough bread, which was a must for soaking up all the sumptuous sauce from our main dishes. The ambiance was just as impressive as the food. Unlike many fine dining establishments, which can sometimes feel overly formal or cold, the atmosphere here was warm and inviting. The décor, lighting, and music created a cozy yet sophisticated setting that made our evening feel special. It s an ideal spot for a date night or for sharing a memorable meal with friends or clients. One thing to note is that the menu isn t available online, but there is a wide variety of options to choose from once youre there, ranging from seafood to poultry and steaks. There s truly something to suit everyone s tastes. Overall, we were thoroughly impressed with both the quality of the food and the exceptional service. Joe Beef exceeded our expectations and delivered a dining experience we won t soon forget. Highly recommended! Parking: Our dinner was early, around 5pm, and we re lucky enough to find paid street parking nearby.

Its famous. We had to try it. I wish I had saved my money instead. Im not going to pretend to be an expert on French or Quebecois cuisine. My sense from their food and their fame is that they make food in the same rustic way one did centuries ago. The meals are laden with more fat and flour as one did back in the day. Turns out we put that behind us for a reason. I found the food to be incredibly bland and tasteless. One can step out and walk a few blocks in any direction and find a restaurant that serves local Quebec cuisine in a modern, exciting and excellent manner so its hard to make sense of the attraction to Joe Beef. I stared at the online menu for a while trying to remember what I got months ago but it wasnt coming back to me it was that forgettable.

The food was good but very overpriced and not worth it. At this price point ($50-70 per main course), the meals should include a vegetable side dish, rather than charging an extra $17 for 6 pieces of zucchini. The food was mediocre (other than the halibut), and I have no idea why they are in the top 100 restaurants list. Maybe they used to be good? Spending so much money, they then had the nerve to charge an extra $1 for 2 more slices of bread to go along with the fois gras appetizer (which cost $40 to begin with). I am disappointed.

When Antony Bourdain visited Montreal, Joe Beef was his favorite restaurant. But then again, Tony loved meat. We don t eat meat and poultry or lobster, and our dinner experience was good, but not great; I m sure that the meat dishes here are great. We tried the oysters, 3 different kinds, they were very good (4/5). The Raw Tuna, Tomato Tart Basquaise was good (3/5), but too many flavors overpowered the taste of the tuna. The Egg in a Jar, Trout Roe, Celery & Dulse Butter Brioche was ok, but weird, and not too flavorful (2/5). The fries were good, but a bit bitter (3/5). The best dish was the Halibut, Colbert Vinaigrette, very well cooked and very flavorful (4/5). Finally, the Boston & Gems salad with Mimolette was good, the plating was not (3/5). Service was very good (4/5). Overall, 3/5.

The outdoor terrasse is really lovely. I tried the raw tuna and foie gras as appetizers. The raw tuna was just ok. The foie gras was really good with the raisin bread. My friend had the filet mignon which was the daily special. He asked for rare and got a medium rare. For 98$, I don t think this is acceptable. I had the Sweetbreads (Ris de veau). The sauce was so salty that I couldn t finish it. For dessert, we tried the marjolaine and the sorbet sgroppino which were excellent. The BaBeigne au Rhum was disappointing because the doughnut was just too dry.

We dined here yesterday after having reserved a few weeks to a month in advance and... wow. The hype is real. The tuna tartare was a nice fresh start. We then transitioned into the lamb shoulder and lobster spaghetti which we shared. The lamb was cooked to perfection. The sauce and elements on the plate all blended in so well together. It had a faint but pleasant horseradish / dijon taste to it which was very nice and the lobster spaghetti was creamy and delicious. Lobster often gets lost / overpowered in pasta dishes with ingredients like tomatoes but this was not the case here. The lobster was the star of the dish on a bed of creamy spaghetti that included pancetta and chives. It was simply exquisite. Kudos to the kitchen and staff as they didn t miss a pulse all night. It was a great and memorable meal. I would highly recommend.

We came here really wanting to love this place. The service and vibe were great, but we were disappointed with some of the food. Some great dishes, some unforgivable. And I just can t justify the price for what we got, especially compared to some other restaurants that execute cooking flawlessly. Starters: Steak tartare- wonderful. Best dish of our night Artichoke special- let down. A bit like under pickled antipasto, that could have come out of a jar. Mains: Sweetbread- delicious dish with a great sauce. Not enough sweetbread Suckling pork confit- pork not confited right. Pork rind was inedible (sticky and chewy, rather than crispy). For the prices of these dishes, every component of the dish should be well executed. Good flavours around the dish, but the cookery was disappointing. Dessert: Chantilly cream with strawberries- strawberries are in season, making this dessert very sweet and fresh. It was nice.

Way too expensive for the taste and quality of food. Just because youre paying a lot, does not mean that its good. We ordered: The raw scallops (I enjoyed this dish) Dry Sausage (4 little slices, with some pickled dishes strewn about, with very little flavor) Lobster Spaghetti (Best dish of the night and would recommend - but for $71 CAD...getting three little pieces of lobster makes it hard to really justify and say that its a great deal) USDA Filet Mignon (peppercorn sauce wasnt really all that flavorful, and the bleu cheese crumbles were served on I believe a celery stalk) - $90 CAD Sauteed Mushrooms (dry and somewhat tasteless...was really expecting something more especially after the water talked these up significantly) The food is fine, I guess, just not at the price point offered. I was expecting to be blown away by the food here but it was just kind of...mediocre. I spend nearly $400 CAD for a dinner for 2 that left us both not really that impressed. There are better places in Montreal that have a lot more flavor and are unexpectedly great more than Joe Beefs is. The waiter is also oddly pushy about ordering dishes to the point of near discomfort, and reading other reviews here saying the same its a bit concerning and seems like theyre more interested in pushing out food rather than good food.

In fact, let us make one of each so the table can experience both. They were in a class of their own. Then the food. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, to each bite was amazing. Raw scallops topped with truffles? One of the best bites of my life. Suckling pig confit? I though I knew what depth of flavor was. Every time the fork met my mouth I was reminded just how wrong I had been my entire life. It was exquisite (and I dont know that I have ever used that world non-ironically) If you consider yourself a fan of food, your life is incomplete until you have eaten at Joe Beef.

Cant overstate how good this was. The food was outstanding and the service was perfect. Our server was also a sommelier and added so much to the experience through perfect pairings and suggestions. We had the flank steak and the mutton. Both to die for.

The entire staff at Joe beef clearly love to work there and with each other. This comes out in the food and service. It reminds me of a Danny Meyer restaurant. Their food was exceptional and our server made excellent wine recommendations. We had the beef tartar prepared table side with endives and crostini. The meal could have ended there I would ve been happy but we followed it up with a gem salad, the duck meal to share and fries. Not your traditional steak house meal given the other options but would have that meal on repeat. we finished it with a chocolate meringue dessert that our server previously called the kids dessert she was not wrong. 10/10 would recommend

Excellent dining experience. From flawless service to great execution on seemingly simple dishes, everything was high quality. Steak tartar was prepared at the table and was one of the best I have ever had. Lobster spaghetti is also highly recommended. Mussels and oysters were the highlight of the small cold platter.

Very good food. They suggest you share but the portions arent really large enough for more than a bite each. Still, good food and good service. Prices are high for small portions.

Ive travelled all over the world and dined at many fine dining establishments so I expect, when I am about to spend $100 on a meal, to have three things- great service, sublime food, and to leave satiated. Not so this time, I would label my experience here, bland and boring. 1. My reservation was on time and the servers were friendly. However, they immediately led me to one of the worst seats in the restaurant at the bar at the end of a counter on a high bar stool where servers would have to go around me multiple times. This is a pet peeve of mine . As a single traveller, Im often given the worst seat. I watched couples get lovely window seats when I was being stuck at the awful seat, I just said no and asked them to move me. Servers found me a place but then I was basically told that I was not to linger. Strike 1. 2. Service was good and friendly. Meal started with waiter asking me if I wanted a drink. I very specifically asked for one type of alcohol. The waiter checked and said they had it, so I ordered it. They brought it over , I sipped it, and it was not my drink. Then I had to go through this gaslighting experience of having the male waiter tell me that my drink was correct when I knew it wasnt! If I have to pay $100 for meal, I want the correct drink brought to me and I dont want to have to convince a waiter that there is an error. Sure enough, the server went back and I overheard them talk and they didnt even have my choice of alcohol there. They were wrong on 3 counts- 1 -to tell me they had it in the first place, 2- to serve it to me and 3- to try to convince me that I was imagining that it was wrong.Grrrrr! Strike 2. 3. For that price, I had hoped for and even expected a piece of bread, but I guess they dont do that here which was very disappointing. But I heard the waiter say that the portions were big and I even asked about what I was ordering and he said it would be enough. So I thought, I dont need the extra carbs. I ordered the scallops de Boston, which the waiter explained were served raw. Context- I have often scallop scuba dived and eaten scallops straight out of the shell and they have been delicious .What really sold the dish to me was the waiter saying that it had black truffle on it. Now I love truffles so I was really looking forward to it. And for $18, I assumed it would be divine!! What came were 5 slivers of scallop, maybe the equivalent of one and a half , maybe two scallops? They were in a liquid with what look like black truffle shavings. I tasted it and it was completely bland. I could not detect any seasoning but I thought, maybe they didnt put any salt and pepper on them because they wanted the scallops and truffle to shine but no, the truffle had no flavour at all and the scallops tasted slimy. I did not enjoy them, but I was hungry so I ate them. They did ask me what I thought of them, but after arguing already about my drink and being shuffled to a bad seat to start the dinner, I wasnt in the mood to explain. To top it off, when I tried to put slight pressure on a scallop to cut it , a whole bunch of ice underneath the dish spewed out all over my clothes, table, etc., which was not pleasant. As I was trying to clean it up, I also knocked over the fake candle. The server came over to help and I explained, I was only trying to cut one in half. To this, he responded, dont cut it in half, eat it whole. I guess I had to reach the age of 60+ to be told how to eat scallops correctly without making a mess. At this point, I dont have my drink, didnt enjoy the scallops, have no bread and Im waiting for halibut for my main course, I asked how it was served and what the sauce Veronique was. It sounded good. My halibut came. It was a generous slice, had some nice brown colour, and seemed cooked well. But when I tasted it, it had absolutely no seasoning, was bland and the sauce also seemed unseasoned and bland. What was the point of the sauce if there was no flavour to it ? This was not a good experience and I will not be back. Strike 3!

Ive been here multiple times but the last trip was one of the best restaurant experiences my wife and I have had in Montreal. Our waiter was absolutely marvelous, and took extra care to ensure our meal was perfect and suitable for our dietary restrictions. My wife is a picky vegetarian and typically hates fine dining as they typically offer a plate of vegetables or salads. Our waiter worked with the chef to create a cheese plate, and sides including morel mushrooms which she was enamored with. I have an allergy to alcohol and eating french food tends to be difficult due to just about everyone having alcohol in it. Our waiter worked with the chef to adjust sauces to allow me to try some of the most amazingly delightful and delicious French food Ive had. The sweetbreads were delicious, the pork was perfect, and the morels were out of this world. Vegetarian options: Morel mushrooms in butter and herbs, cheese plate, Dietary restrictions: Im allergic to alcohol and the chef was able to adjust some of the sauces to accommodate so I could enjoy some delicious French food.
