3927 Saint Denis St, Montreal, Quebec H2W 2M4, Canada
Iconic Parisian-style bistro serving refined standards in a chic room with checkered floors & a bar.
L’Express on St-Denis Street in Montreal is a charming French bistro that's open until 2 AM, making it a great spot for late-night dining. The restaurant features beautiful mosaic tiles and classy interiors, providing a delightful ambiance for a French meal. The food is served with elegance and is truly delicious. The complimentary bread and pickles were some of the best I’ve ever had. While the seating may feel a bit tight, the tables are spacious enough for a comfortable dinner for two. Be sure to call ahead and make a reservation, as the restaurant can get very busy. The atmosphere is lively and energetic, with straightforward, quality French cuisine. They also have an extensive wine menu, and I highly recommend trying a glass of Montange st-Emilio’s 2018 haut-goujon red. Parking is on the street of St-Denis, which can be a bit of a trouble, but the dining experience more than makes up for it.
Started with the bone marrow. Was good, but very very oily. The bread and pickles are complementary and for a person who is not too big on pickles I did find myself eating quite a few. For the main I had a difficult time picking between a few things I really wanted to try but ended up picking the risotto which was amazing. Super flavourful, tasted like the sea! Will definitely want to come back again to try other things.
Really nice place for a French meal! The liver pate was amazing. They also provide complimentary bread and pickles to eat it with. The pickles were some of the best I’ve ever had. The duck confit was also amazing and I’d order it again if I came back. The beef tartar was a bit of a miss though.
I’ve been wanting to come here for a few years now and I can say that this place does not disappoint! Staff was exceptionally friendly and the atmosphere was great. All the food was amazing and we regretted not getting more! Will come back for the Risotto alone. My friends thanked me for showing them this restaurant, we will come back each time we visit Montreal!
Amazing French bistro in Montreal. This is the classic that all others want to emulate. Food was outstanding. Service was impeccable. Wine selection one of the best in town, from pricey to great values. Our only disappointment was we arrive a little late to our reservation, and was put in a middle of the way table. Which was a tiny bit tight Get there early for your reservation because even if you call ahead, we got a don’t really care attitude from the maitre D. Well worth the hassle of parking, great experience and a must visit.
Nice restaurant with beautiful interior decor. The food was good and came with bread, homemade pickles, and Dijon mustard. Dessert was very delicious as well. A very traditional French dinning experience.
The service here is immaculate. The best casual dining experience in Montréal. The food was very good, some of the profiles didn't match my palette as well as I'd hoped. I'm not a huge fan of the diner aesthetic but they do it very well. I will be back again. Thank you for a great time.
Right worth the hype! Did some research and this was top 3 on my list and after visit, I think this is my favorite in Montreal! Service was excellent and offered a booster seat for our toddler and brought over crayons for drawing which was a huge help. Food was so tasty and came with complimentary pickles with mustard. I was in heaven! The wine list was great! It’s hard for find Chablis by glass and they had it - delicious! Overall, it was 10/10! When we visit Montreal next, can’t wait to come here again!
A meal at lExpress is a moment of escape. Dishes prepared to perfection. The excellent service. I highly recommend this Montreal classic.
My son booked dinner at the LExpress for our holiday dinner, and it was a magnificent experience combining fine dining with a cafe atmosphere. The food was truly delicious, and the waiting staff were invaluable in explaining the menu. We will definitely visit again.
It was delicious, highly recommend!
It s not a bad dream The Express veal liver is no longer on the menu Apparently, the chef couldn t bring himself to increase the price of the dish. It remains to be seen whether it would not have been better to be offended by the price rather than to be devastated by this tragedy. Me who regularly made a detour to taste this essential of the establishment.
Real french brasserie , food and vibe.
If there had been 6 stars for the service and the cuisine... Classics of French cuisine served with attention. Effervescent atmosphere.
I really didnt think it would live up to expectations - but this place is totally worth the hype! The food is so good and so well thought out, and the service and ambience really takes it all over the top. Highly recommend the shrimp and chorizo risotto - will be thinking about it for a long time!
Simplement délicieux / simply delicious - a must when on Saint Denis !!! Very busy spot and a little loud which is understandable.
came here on a sunday night, service was amazing. loved how you start off with bread and pickles, we ended up getting the buffalo cheese which was incredible. for the price of the steak i would expect a bigger piece, could definitely do with less fries but it tasted good, would do a different main next time. for dessert we got the maple profiteroles which were delicious and the creme brûlée was really good as well but the cookie on top was forgettable. one thing to note, there was no music playing which threw me off. overall a great spot, lovely for a late night dinner
Delicious food, great service, and an excellent ambience.
Loved the chef
Amazing food
I finally discovered the institution that is Express, French bistro, beautiful atmosphere, good service, excellent food! Marrow bones and kidneys!
A wonderful night. The duck confit is tender enough and not too salty, a little bit greasy but very tasty. The bone marrow tastes like some kind of high quality butter, just delicious. I have nothing to complain.
Always a staple when I visit Montreal.
Like being in Paris, amazing food, wine and ambiance, relaxed but refined.
Delicious French classic
Receptionist so unpleasant and rude that I no longer want to come back!
The food was good, not superb. The service staff was sub par, the specials were not explained, no follow up for drink orders, just generally seemed under staffed/inadequately trained.
Decent food, attentive wait service, and a pleasant atmosphere. The steak frite was fine; chicken paillard and mussels were slightly under seasoned. Crème brûlée was delicious. île flottante looks more impressive than it tastes. Least impressive was the waiter who took our order. Deigned to answer my question for recommendations and acted as if he was doing me a favor by letting me eat there.
Been going there for years, I was surprised that I had never reviewed LExpress. Its a charming restaurant on St-Denis, the food is delicious, great variety and the service is on point. I have to admit that on some nights, the servers seem to be running around, but its nothing really bad. I do recommend this little gem to anyone.
A must-have classic in Montreal. An authentic French bistro like no other!
A real Montreal must destination
Had the steak and fries with the fish soup. The steak was done right to my liking and recommendation (medium rare) and the soup was good. You get to enjoy the bread and butter and the jar of tiny pickles which was awesome. Will repeat!
A classic French bistro with spot-on food, efficient service, and a warm atmosphere.
Solid. And an experince. Old school vibe and service (as out-of-town ers why the impatience with the questions). They were out of the ile flottante. Wheelchair accessibility: No steps/bumps from sidewalk to seating. Dining room is a tight but Id imagine they would accommodate.
I recently had the chance to dine here, and unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing. After being seated, we found ourselves waiting for an extended period to get our order taken. It seemed our server was more focused on cleaning up other tables than attending to us. To add to our frustration, the guests at the table next to us, who arrived after we did, were served almost immediately by the same server I truly hope that this wasn t a reflection of any bias, considering we have an Asian appearance, but compared to the table next to us, was a really big difference on the server s attitude and efficiency. On a positive note, the food was quite delightful, but the service experience was too awful, will definitely not visit again
Such a lovely spot! Very friendly and the bar is a fun place to sit. Reservations recommended - I saw a few people turned away
Absolute perfection. French bistro with all the classics
Please see Edith Pilaf review. This is spot on accurate and I couldn t have posted anything better. Other reviews incredulous. A tourist trap with marginal quality French food (admittedly decent prices). Servers seemed disinterested and tired.
Amazing food and an excellent wine list. I had the duck confit which had crispy skin and the meat was so tender it just fell off the bone. Profiteroles were excellent. Try the wine!
Once again the best Parisian brasserie-inspired restaurant in Montreal
Great place Romantic... typical French. Delicious.
This restaurant is unique. The welcome is warm. The staff is kind and professional. The food is excellent the wine is magnificent and very competitively priced. And a big thank you to M Masson!
The bone marrow is too greasy and lacks seasoning. but all other dishes are very authntic.
Absolutely loved the food, will for sure be going to eat here again! Very friendly staff also.
I cannot say enough how yummy and amazing the FOOD, service and experience this was. The wait staff were so attentive and helpful. I would fly back here just to eat here. The steak carpaccio, grilled octopus, rum ala baba. So many yummy dishes. I want to come back every night. Yes, I take photos of empty dishes because they are too yummy to pause to take a photo.
This restaurant offers an authentic French dining experience that truly transports you to the heart of France. From the moment you walk in, the ambiance sets a warm, inviting tone with classic French decor that adds a touch of charm and elegance to the space. The menu is filled with traditional French dishes that are well-crafted and full of flavor. Each dish we tried was prepared with great attention to detail, from the appetizers to the desserts. The prices here are very reasonable, especially considering the quality and authenticity of the food. It s rare to find a place that offers such high-quality French cuisine at such accessible prices. The main courses, such as the coq au vin and duck confit, were cooked to perfection, with flavors that were rich and satisfying without being overly heavy. The desserts, particularly the crème brûlée, were equally impressive, providing a sweet and memorable finish to the meal. The service was also excellent, with attentive staff who were knowledgeable about the menu and made thoughtful recommendations. They were quick to attend to our needs without being intrusive, which made for a comfortable and enjoyable dining experience. Overall, this restaurant is a gem for those looking to enjoy traditional French flavors in a relaxed, welcoming environment.
Everything about this place is perfection from the food to the service. It s almost hard to decide which one was better. I highly recommend this to anybody who s coming to Montreal we stumbled upon this place after attending Montreal jazz club evening.
Excellent service. Fast and efficient. I ate at the bar and the waitress was very nice and efficient. I recommend 100%. I cant wait to go back. Very nice discovery well done
Superb address in Montreal in the heart of the plateau, cuisine always equal with classics prepared with care! The only downside is the lack of soundproofing, often a migraine when leaving, people have to speak louder and louder to hear each other, especially under the glass roof at the back of the restaurant. In my opinion, this is the BIG fault of the restaurant. Otherwise it would be almost faultless quality freshness regularity and service . But too much noise.
Visited during a recent visit to Montreal as L Express was also highly recommended. The restaurant serves French cuisine in a bistro-style environment. Service by staff was very friendly in greeting and recommending selections from their menu, as well as providing prompt service if needed. The bar seats were good for a solo dining experience in being able to see the staff at work while you eat. One of their most popular dishes is the Duck Confit, which is a marinated, slow cooked and roasted duck leg which came with potatoes and a salad to accompany. The duck was very flavourful and moist, as any duck meat fell off the bone very quickly along with the crispy duck skin. For dessert, their Lemon Tart (called Tartelette Citron, ganache au chocolat blanc on the menu) was also recommended as it was a lemon tart with white chocolate ganache on top and was not overly filling. Overall, recommended to visit L Express if looking for a place to get some French-style bistro cuisine. It s recommended that reservations are placed well in advance to ensure a reasonable seating time, as it s quite popular among visitors and locals. If no reservations, expect availability for a table to be limited or at a fairly late time.
We are regulars but this time we were disappointed. The kidney dish, which I have always loved, contains more potatoes than anything else and they are hard and not roasted enough, or even not cooked enough. Portions in general are also reduced. I am thinking, among other things, of the beef carpacio which contained 3 bites. And a dry martini is $25, a bit excessive in my opinion. The wines are affordable, however, and there is a lovely atmosphere. In short, maybe we will try to come back but not immediately.
Loved it. Great food, great service and great atmosphere. Will go again for sure.
An institution. We never miss a chance when visiting the area. There s nothing like a bottle of wine and a delicious L Express dinner on a fall Saturday night at 11pm. The food and energy in unparalleled.
I didn t know that this place was kinda famous. This was the only French place that I saw open on google at midnight. The reviews were great so I decided to go. It was busy but not too packed. The service was really good and the food was excellent. The quiche, I hope I didn t misspell it, I only had a year of French in high school. It was great and the rum tart I had was even better. The vibe of the place was energetic. They have rotary phones and the place is painted dark red. This is only the second French restaurant they I ve been to but it made a great impression. The first was in Savannah, Ga. The next time I make a long road trip to Montréal from Florida I will stop by again. The second time I was here I didn t see the rotary phones.
We visited this French restaurant today, and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. The atmosphere felt unwelcoming, and the only surprising part was just how mediocre everything was. We chose it based on Reddit recommendations, but that turned out to be a mistake. I m giving two stars solely because the gentleman at the door was polite and attentive; however, our server was inattentive and unhelpful. If you re hoping for an enjoyable lunch, I d suggest looking elsewhere to avoid spoiling your day.
I had a really bad experience .The ravioli I ordered tasted awful the meat inside seemed spoiled, and the sauce was bad too. I politely asked the waiter if she could change it, but she was rude and said, This isn t fast food this is a restaurants ,while giving us mean looks. She finally changed the food but looked unhappy about it. When I left a $5 tip, she looked angry and said a small tip wasn t okay since they had replaced my food. Her rude attitude and poor service ruined our meal. I wouldn t recommend this place if you want good food and friendly service.
The food was excellent. But it was served at least an hour after ordering it.
A must-see in Montreal! Classic French gastronomy mastered to perfection. A super professional service. I have a weakness for kidneys and rum baba Open when everything else is closed. Reasonable value for money. In short, 5 stars!
Excellent French restaurant!
Wow. What a gem. Their was no sign or name on the awning. The food was so good that the apparently do not need to advertise.
Great french vibe and food with an amazing wine list!!
A customer for 35 years, I am sorry to have noticed that LExpress is no longer LExpress... What a disappointment! We were welcomed a little before 1 a.m. (the website indicates that the restaurant is open until 2 a.m.) without telling us that the kitchen closed at 1 a.m. We ask for a table for two, but we are offered a place at the bar (the room is half full and we see free tables), We emphasize that we would prefer a table if possible and they end up offering us one. The waiter quickly tells us that we have 4 minutes to order. We were also warned that the plates would follow very quickly, so starters and main courses almost at the same time. Finally, without tact and even a little abruptly, we were offered the dessert menu while we started the main course which, at least, was good. This is without mentioning the waiter who puts the machine down for payment without asking us if we are ready to pay, in a hurry, obviously, to see us leave....! Farewell, LExpress, I really liked you...
Cute and casual French diner vibes, very reminiscent of what you might expect from a late night French bistro in Paris. Very well executed French cuisine with an impressive wine list! This is a great late night spot for a proper meal and feels very much like an IYKYK spot.
Superb French brasserie. The dishes were super good! The servers very friendly. I had the lemon tart for dessert 10/10!
I was just walking by when this place caught my eye, and I couldn t resist checking it out. Inside, it was packed with people enjoying their food, and the vibe felt really inviting. They had an amazing wine list with choices from Canada and France. I went for the Risotto Crevette et Chorizo wow, the flavors were out of this world! For dessert, I had the Crème Brûlée with coffee, and it honestly made me feel like I was in a 5-star restaurant. The staff was super friendly, and the guy handling the reservations and seating was incredible he really made the experience special. I m so glad I stopped in. What a great meal!
Still one of the top bistros in Montreal. Seasonal specials are always worth considering - but there are some classics on the menu. Love the cornichons - I bought a big jar to take home with me.
People sensitive to noise = restaurant to absolutely avoid. The food is good, but expect French service (there are a lot of French people there)
The place amazing, i like the bread , pickles and butter burrata salad and their French fries the steak was ok but not flavorful , duck delicious but salty
Nice food, wonderful service
Great meal tonight. Starters : warm goat cheese was terrific and the roasted beets salad also. Risotto with shrimp was delicious.
We came here for brunch. It really has a classic Parisian bistro vibe. Service was excellent even though the restaurant was very busy. We ordered foie gras and risotto. Both tasted amazing. This is definitely one of the best restaurants in Montreal. Hope to visit here again soon.
My favorite duck confit!
We had a lovely dinner at L Express. The atmosphere is lively, busy and energetic. The food is straight forward, quality French eats - a true French bistro vibe. The salmon tartare and steak with roasted veggies hit the spot and the homemade pickles were a nice touch.
Lives up to the hype. French bistro classics expertly assembled and served by knowledgeable, friendly and proficient staff. Wish I took the countless recommendations more seriously and gone 10 years ago and every year since. Food
A great bistro! It s one of my favorites in Montreal! A must on every trip!
A classic of French cuisine in Montreal. Impressive value for money for the neighborhood. The atmosphere and the cuisine are authentic. A must-have.
Authentic rustic French cuisine. Really delicious. It was super busy, so the service was bit slow. Other than that, great place.
A treat from A to Z in a friendly atmosphere. Don t leave without tasting the caramel floating islands.
Cute diner vibe. Diverse and wonderful menu. Fantastic staff.
Delicious!!!! Excellent service. But the rice pudding - extraordinary!!!**** In my opinion of course.
Service can be a little slow, presumably as it is so constantly busy until late. Portions are generous and the food is very good - I d like a bit more bechamel in the Croque Monsieur myself but all very tasty.
I love this place! The only thing I was concerned about was the amount of salt on one of the dishes.
Absolute skip. Has everyone lost their mind? This is not good food. Not very French either. Except that they are borderline rude & tired of tourists. If you like french food in all its glory, you will not find it here, this is diner food at best. The cornichons are the highlight of the meal. I don t have time to explain how every dish excited us on paper & flopped on the tongue. We gave it a chance calling it rustic at first but after 6 days we realized, this is not rustic. This is lazy.
Honestly blown away. A really great dining experience. Portions, flavors, quality all was excellent, as was the service. The dessert was also fantastic don t skip it. Price is fair given all the it offers. Will come back.
I had a late dinner at L Express, the well-known French bistro, and it was a great experience overall. The Hanger steak, cooked medium rare, was really good, and the shallot butter and fries made a great combo. The real highlight for me was the maple profiteroles absolutely delicious. My partner had the duck confit and said it was the best ever. The cozy vibe was nice, but the service was mixed. Our main server was friendly and attentive, but another staff member was a bit pushy. Still, everything was quick and efficient, making it a solid spot for a casual French meal.
In my opinion, there s really nothing better than fine French dining at midnight. Plus the service is impeccable. A must in Montreal.
Amazing food and the service is impeccable. Highly recommend!
We walked right in for an early lunch and it was delicious. We had the duck and the quail plates, a long with a pate appetizer and they were all excellent. The appetizer came with a large jar of cornichons and mustard
Great experience overall! The food is great, the service is slow, but it was extremely busy and they seemed understaffed for a Friday night! Plus, they did accommodate for the wait by giving us two free glass of wine which was really sweet! I recommend the steak or the poached salmon as a main, it was honestly a 10/10! For the appetizer, the chicken liver pistachios with the bread is so tasty. The maple profiteroles, for the dessert, were so well balanced in terms of sweetness, 100% recommend!
I totally agree with the other reviewers who say that this restaurant is worth the hype. It totally is. We made a reservation, which I suppose was a good idea, although I couldn t tell if it was totally necessary on the night we went. Also, we initially walked right past the restaurant because it s a bit nondescript and doesn t have a ton of signage. We both ordered drinks, which were well made and pretty strong, and very much enjoyed the pickles with mustard and bread/butter. Really, the only downside was that the waiter took the pickles away before dessert, so we couldn t have dessert pickles. For our appetizer, we shared the celery remoulade, which was a perfect little pile of, basically, celery coleslaw; it was very good, especially with the pickles and mustard. Our mains were the duck confit and the shrimp/chorizo risotto, which were also delicious (and also paired well with the pickles/mustard). Dessert was the profiteroles (which were maple-y and delicious) and the chocolate gateau (which was also delicious and pleasantly not sweet at all); they honestly would ve paired well with the pickles/mustard if we d still had them at the table.
Vintage, retro, comfortable atmosphere & incredible food. Bone marrow was to die for!
A great brasserie
We order seafood rice, dusk conflit and quail. quail was 10 out of 10, you will feel strong comparison between black rice with the quail, 100% recommend. Dusk conflit was a litte bit salty, but overall was good. Chicken liver was normal for us. The host refused to provided the seat that we wanted, even though there was no body show out thoughout the time we were dine in.
Their servers attitude is shitty and refused to serve us within their open hours. Have been to the spot several times but this time totally disappointed.
What a marvel! Very attentive and professional service. Everything was perfect and original. A mix of French and European cuisine with fresh quality products. I highly recommend.
Worth the hype! Snuck in without a reservation at 5 as a solo dinner, but would recommend a reservation even for one!
Nice food, nice service, best french restaurant ever.
Somewhat hectic environment, and the food wasn t quite as flavourful as I was expecting. However, the service was great and the waiter didn t scrimp on the wine, full to the brim with each glass, which is a welcome change from some other establishments
Delicious!
I went on a Sunday without reservation. Seat at the bar right away. I ve ordered a grilled octopus and then the ravioli, both delicious. For the quality it s worth the price. Food
Im not sure this place needs another positive review nevertheless, a stand-out restaurant in a city full of wonderful food. Classic French bistro atmosphere, perfect service, and cornichons and mustard are provided gratis. Duck confit and celery remoulade were perfection. The waitress suggested a wonderful cab to go with them. My wife very much enjoyed her risotto. Would very much like to sit at the bar next time. All in all, a worthy 20th anniversary dinner.
Excellent french cuisine experience!
Immaculate vibes, good food
Pure moment! We had a really good time in this chic and relaxed bistro setting. The cuisine is refined, a great welcome and service, as I said, a pure moment with friends. To discover or rediscover
We enjoyed everything from main course to dessert. The staff are very pleasant and helpful. Excellent address in Montreal!
Although I am giving a 5 star review, if the rating is out of 10, I would give them only a 8.5 to 9.5. I like the place, but there were a few issues. There were lots of free places, but for celebrating my big wedding anniversary, my family of 3 was given a table of 2 with 3 chairs. We were expecting the desserts to be spectacular, but the créme brulé was runny as if it was kept too long? Many I have to give them a chance and go back to try again more dishes. Wheelchair accessibility: Ground floor with open floor plan.
The service is very good and the atmosphere is good, but the food is not that amazing!
Perhaps my expectations were too high, but I felt ultimately disappointed with L Express. No complaints regarding the service, which was pleasant and efficient, but there were several misses with the food itself. The sorrel soup was great, and seemed like a promising sign of the meal ahead. However, the green salad arrived completely not lightly, but completely undressed. The mains were decent, but underwhelming. My steak was rather tough. The duck confit itself was fairly nice but had some areas which were poorly rendered, and the accompaniments were under-seasoned and bland. I enjoyed the atmosphere, though my partner found it overly loud. Overall, this was the restaurant I most anticipated visiting, and which disappointed me the most.
LExpress is one of the best in Montreal - a classic French restaurant with a Parisian bistro style room, excellent food, and incredible service. Everything was done very well.
It s classic French food overall made very well. Mind blowing ? No. Worth making the time to travel to? Not so sure. But it s solid food.
It was good. I heard that if you didn t make a reservation, it might be crowded. But actually it was not too bad. The servers were kind. Food : 5/5 |
This restaurant has such a vibrant atmosphere. The energy is contagious and always puts me in a great mood. Great food overall which is what matters!! Excellent staff!!!
Awesome dining experience Food was amazing Ambience and vibe were great Staff was friendly and attentive Food : 5/5 |
Last Wednesday, like every visit to Montreal, we went to this restaurant. Unfortunately we were disappointed with the food. The portions have decreased considerably: my partner had calfs liver, but he only received two small pieces that were overcooked. As for me, I chose the beef tartare, which was OK but not spectacular. All that remains is the atmosphere of the restaurant that is worth the detour, and even then. During our next stay, we will opt for a new address. Really disappointed.
I had accidentally made our dinner reservation for the wrong date and instead of turning us away they were able to get us a table. All the staff were friendly and super sweet to both myself and my mother. All the food was delicious and I recommend getting their crem brule and their quail dish if you are there.
The octopus starter was excellent, the tartare too, but the highlight was the coffee crème brûlée!!
One of the best in Montreal
L express truly lives up to its hype and praise. Pleasantly greeted at the door and with reservation i was seated in minutes. I had never eaten duck meat before and Gabriel assured me it would melt in my mouth and it did! I m glad I took the recommendation. The Confit duck with its crispy skin and the potatoes was *chef s kiss! Finished the meal off with a Crème brûlée which was perfect. The service was great. The ambience is . Made my last night in Montreal memorable :)
Phenomenal! Staff is friendly and the food exquisite and authentic! Cant wait to go back
We were greeted warmly and sat quickly. I wish I could have sampled more from the menu. Everything we did order was exquisite. Ive never had better grilled octopus! Merci Food
Traditional French restaurants with a more relaxing vibe . Had a great wine list with bottles starting at 60. We are from out of town and want ready to go home, because we also had a child and just wanted to go have something to drink . If your look for a great late night eat this is a fantastic place to go it opens untill 2am.
Great place, loved the steak! Bonus points for being open late.
Great spot, felt like a refined diner. Food was really good, you get served bread and butter with pickles and mustard included in the service. Prices are for sure on the higher side but they reflect the quality of the dishes.
Traditional French food place. Perfect decoration and service. The food is very delicious. Extensive wine list. The bathroom is also very clean. Everything perfect.
I felt like I was in France. My salmon was excellent.
It felt like I was in Paris, except the waiter was friendly! lol
This was the first restaurant we went in Montreal (highly recommended by a friend) and it did not disappoint! The ambience is beautiful, friendly staff and the food is top quality. We had the burrata with tomatoes (full of flavor), croque-monsieur, shrimp and chorizo risotto, the homemade raviolis and crème brûlée for dessert.
The food was okay, nothing special. The wine list is excellent. Unfortunately, they dont use appropriate glasses for serving the wine. I ordered a lovely red wine which was poured into port glasses. The service was efficient but lacked the personal touch that one would expect in a restaurant that is priced in this calibre. The place could use some sound dampening as well.
An amazing French restaurant. The maître is kind and friendly. The service is always excellent. The wine selection is very good. Its always delicious and perfectly cooked. The ambiance here is excellent as well. I d highly recommend coming here if you re going to be in Montreal. (I came here as a tourist many times when I was visiting Canada, and when I moved to Montréal too...) Nothing changed. They are consistent in delivering a great culinary experience Dietary restrictions: Many options are available
The service at this French restaurant is very professional. The pickles are delicious, and the fish soup is excellent. However, the restroom is particularly small.
Excellent restaurant. Quality products. Welcoming and good advice staff.
This has been one of the best culinary experiences we ve had in Montreal. Food is amazing, staff even more amazing, great atmosphere, excellent wine selection. Couldn t fault a single thing. Super impressed! Food : 5/5
Bread was so dry. so crowded and we cant even hear each otehr
I stopped here for dessert. The crème brûlée was super. The lemon sorbet was perfect. Highly recommend.
Classic French Bistro that covers all the bases. Make sure to get something off the specials menu and enjoy the ambiance. Been with kids and on date night, service is impeccable.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and incredibly delicious food. If you are in the area and looking for a nice restaurant, I definitely recommend that you visit. Overall a wonderful experience!
An institution from the 80s which still stands out in French cuisine, excellent restaurant, a must, hyper professional service very rare these days, the duck breast is sublime, the sorrel soup a classic, the beef and shallot steak is also recommended, the wine list is also varied
I just love this place <3 Its beautiful and the food and service are excellent. Been twice, each time I have visited the city.
Low quality beef and food. Very surprised with the taste after reading all of the reviews. Wont be back. I don t recommend
Nice atmosphere, Not worth the price
Very good restaurant, top dish and dessert, as well as beer and wine. Top service and very pleasant Parisian bistro style setting.
Never disappointed
Grilled octopus 4/5 The octopus was soft and the grilled peppers were nice. Beef tartare - Tartare de boeuf 3.5/5 Average, with options for spicy or no spicy. Duck confit - Cuisse de canard confite 5/5 The duck skin was perfectly crispy and absolutely delicious. Roasted quail with wild rice - Cailles rôties et riz sauvage 3/5 The quail was tasty, but the wild rice was too hard. Shrimp and chorizo risotto - Risotto aux crevettes et chorizo 5/5 My favorite! The heavy cheese flavor paired wonderfully with the cornichons. Maple Profiteroles - Profiteroles à l érable 5/5 A delightful surprise! Freshly baked and crispy profiteroles filled with maple ice cream, absolutely the best Ive ever had! Chocolate tart - Tarte au chocolat 4/5 Rich chocolate flavor, but too bitter for me. It definitely needs extra ice cream on the side. Strawberry tart 5/5 I couldnt find its name on the menu, but it was very fruity and delicious. The most delicious restaurant I had in this trip to Montreal, from main course to dessert, all delicious!
Good meal. Atmosphere was the best
Our table was about 3 inches apart from the party next to us. We were so close it felt like we were on a double date. The waiter was impatient and rude. It took forever for him to take our order. When he finally came over, one of the appetizers we wanted was not available. We had to decide on a different dish on the spot. He waved his finger indicating for us to hurry up ordering. Maybe we could ve tolerated the poor service if the food was better.
Food was excellent, but the bartender was incredibly rude. First, my partner complimented the bartender and he ignored her. Then, my friend asked if the restaurant had a malbec. The bartender scoffed and said we dont serve Pina coladas here. After paying, and tipping, I confronted the bartender and said, hey, I feel like your response to the miscommunication was kind of rude and it made us feel unwelcome. The bartender nodded and then walked away. I wasnt expecting anything beyond sorry, I didnt mean to be offensive, but he just ignored our group again. TOURISTS SHOULD AVOID THIS SPOT. YOU CAN GET GOOD FRENCH FOOD ELSEWHERE, AND OTHER PLACES WONT TALK DOWN TO YOU FOR BEING AN OUTSIDER.
Could not have asked for a better last night than at this restaurant. Highly recommend!
Ive heard a lot about this restaurant and couldnt wait to try the food The reservation and management was impeccable On the other hand, the young lady who served us was cold and not courteous. We asked if the bread could be heated and we got a non-dry one. When the meals arrived I didnt touch my soup. She wasnt interested in knowing why. I was very disappointed The food was not bad overall I think Ill try one more time before making a final decision.
Everything is perfect... I dont recommend the floating island
If youre a fan of delicious wine at great prices, a constantly replenished bread basket, and an endless supply of pickles, this restaurant is a dream come true! My friends and I have officially declared it our top spot in Montreal. The ravioli and steak are absolute must-tries, and the service? Its off the charts 11/10!
So nice!
It you want a perfect restaurant, where the food is delicious and the vibe can vary from romantic to family or friends gathering, here s your place. The execution of the food is just perfect and authentic as if you re truly transported in Paris. I go often as it s in my neighborhood and my favorite is the cailles au riz sauvage . The bone marrow appetizer is delicious too. The free cornichons and mustard to snack on are incredible. We always try to take the daily specials and they never disappoint. FOR DESSERT TAKE THE PROFITEROLES AND THANK ME LATER. Vegetarian options: Not really a lot of options, and no vegan options (except maybe a salad), but to be expected from a classic french bistro restaurant.
Good Food, But Service is so weak! I recently dined at this restaurant and while the food was outstanding, the service left much to be desired. Despite having a reservation, arriving just 15 minutes late seemed to put the staff in a hurry to get us in and out. From the moment we walked in, we felt rushed. The staff was quick to push us into ordering, and the overall atmosphere lacked the warmth and hospitality youd expect from a French dining experience. It was clear that they were more focused on turnover than on making sure we had a pleasant evening. They were keep reminding us that you only have 1 hour left hurry up please order the food, while we were trying to see what they have in the menu and ask them about their menu to decide. Its unfortunate because the food was delicious, but the rushed service made it hard to fully enjoy the meal. If youre looking for a great meal and dont mind feeling hurried, this place might be worth a visit. However, if you value a relaxed and welcoming dining experience, you might want to consider other options.
Phenomenal meal here, I see why this place is so popular. Id definitely recommend a reservation, as its very busy. We got four things to split: the chicken liver paté, the duck rillettes, the quail, and the ravioli. Absolutely everything was wonderful. Even the jar of cornichons were delicious. Id strongly recommend this place!
Great food, amazing staff, a little expensive but worth the experience.
one of my fav restaurants in the city
The employee was very nice and attentive and even though I made a mistake in my order, he gave me a new burger for free which was the one I intended to order. The burgers were really good and fries were delicious and crunchy.
Great French bistro in a trendy area of Montreal. Cooking was exquisite! Service was friendly and helpful. Price is fair for the quality and portion size. The gazpacho my cousin and I had was perhaps the best Ive ever had. The mushrom ravioli was delicate and extremely flavorful. And the creme brulee was also excellent. Definitely returning next time I am in the city.
A true gem of a restaurant that lives up to its hype in Montreal! The service is generally quite efficient, and although not perfect, it is quite impressive how they have such a wide variety of fresh dishes coming out at faster rate than most French establishments within the greater Montreal Area. There is no pressure to rush, and by all means, take your time, but after trying each course, you will be very eager for the next. Their fresh anchovies were the absolute star of the night. They were plump, slightly salty, and refreshing when put together with the nuts and mildly acidic green sauce. Next, the Hanger steak with shallot butter was a classic that you could not go wrong with. You can read all the other reviews and tell that they have perfected this. It is not your traditional filet mignon with a rich, peppery sauce. It is a lovely, bold, beefy cut of meat that does not compromise on what it has to offer and does not leave you overly stuffed. The butter has a luxurious richness that compliments every bite and gives you the aromatic finish you need. Finally, I had their citron tart, which was recommended as a fan favorite by the waiters. It was perfectly, sweet, quite tart, and did not have an eggy after taste like most creamy custards and desserts do. Every time I visited Montreal, I have made an attempt to dine here and I can proudly say that it is an establishment I will look forward to visiting every time.
