I have been here a few times. Authentic food and wonderful staff team. A must visit in old Montreal
We are visiting the city and after a long day of activity and wandering around we stumbled across this restaurant. The atmosphere was cozy and warm. The service was warmer. We immediately felt welcomed and “part of the family.” From the bread to the main course the food was delicious. If you have the pleasure of being served by Anthony consider yourself lucky! He regaled us with stories from his past while we sipped wine and looked out at the street in Old Montreal. Would definitely visit again!
Yes. Outstanding food and service with attention to detail. This is the place for French Cuisine in old Montreal. Every year we visit family in Quebec and now we start our vacation in Montreal. We started with a bottle of wine then a few items from the tapas menu. Duck and escargot. Exceptional. Finishing with French onion soup and squid, prawns and octopus. Perfectly seasoned and prepared. This is the place for a taste of Montreal. Bon appetite
We ate here with friends and had food from both the main and tapas menus. It was a lovely ambience, the staff were very friendly, and the food excellent. Would certainly recommend
A very cozy and dimmed restaurant. The food was spectacular. The 3 types of meat was interesting, but the rack of lamb was by far my favorite. The lamb was super tender, the lamb flavor was delicate and noticeable while leaving out the gammyness of lamb.
Went there for my wife's birthday. We noticed the best seat had just opened up a few mins after arriving. This seat was the "king and queen throne" overlooking the outside and asked our server if we could switch seats. He gladly accommodated us. It was absolutely beautiful. The server, at the end, even offered to take a picture, which was a nice touch. The food was delicious!
One of the best meals I’ve eaten in my life. The food, ambiance and hospitality are second to none. The escargot was dreamy, the puff pastry on top heightened the flavors. The wild game pate was nicely different (consistency was tougher due to it be game). The trio of duck was spectacular, the seared foie gras was definitely the best I’ve ever had. The show stopper was the Caribou though, our first time eating it, cooked to perfection the delicate taste was buttery & not as gamey as venison. In spite of not having any more space to eat we ordered the chocolate fondant, which was gooey and rich. Knowing we were celebrating my spouses birthday they gave us complimentary glasses of port, which was much appreciated. Last but definitely not least the service was top notch. The young lady was friendly and attentive. And, although not our server, the other gentleman was worth his weight in gold. You’d come back to the restaurant just to chat with him! Highly rated & recommended.
Excellent. Quality was higher than what we expect from a restaurant in the middle of the tourist district. Tapas menu was a hit. The best thing on the menu was the grilled sardines. You can eat most of it, bones and all. The char flavor from the grill was prominent and welcome. It's definitely pricier than local restaurants, but this is a great selection if you find yourself in the middle of the tourist district and need to find a place for a dinner on the terrace.
The dishes were delicious. The tender and tasty lamb OMG.
Just happened upon this place. What a gem. Food, drinks and atmosphere were great.
Great place for seafood and nice location.
The food is average. I ordered scallop appetizer and main course of seafood rice. The portion is large but not really tasty. The service is just ok. A bit disappointed.
The staff here are excellent and treat you like royalty. Excellent suggestions for wine pairing and the food was all delicious and hearty. Highly recommend.
A $50 skittle sold for $12:50 at the SAQ. Inflation doesnt affect you too much.
The restaurant is well located in the heart of old Montreal. The terrace is very pleasant! I had pork hazelnuts with maple vinegar which were very good. The prices are reasonable.
Telling me 15% tips is standard is very rude, the young lady not even served my table. Following up: That s really nice of her to inform me how much tips I should give, I guess I missed understood her. I thought she is mad because we only gave $10 on card and $5 cash. I would suggest to put it on the menu for mandatory 15% tips, so that people would know the expectations.
tapas shrimp fantastic
The people were very nice and attentive! We got the calamari and escargot tapas and loved them! I wish we got more. It s a nice place to enjoy the scenery and good food.
Tourist trap - avoid - lousy - lousy - lousy at all levels.
I couldnt tell you whether the service or the food was better: it was that good. My evening at La Sauvagine was top notch. I had three wonderful game medallions, each in their own sauce, and had a great French merlot with it. The creme brulee at the end was superb. All in all, a very enjoyable evening.
Was expecting good food and service for the very high prices and was entirely disappointed the food was extremely mediocre and very expensive on top of the extremely small portion sizes. completely felt ripped off especially since the servers spoke two words to us. the drink was the only good part and even then it was $18.
The food portions were so small and the food itself was mediocre and that s me being nice. Having tiny portions of bad food does not make it tapas. The cocktails as well were so overpriced and I work as a bartender I know better then to charge 20$ for an apérol spritz. Also the service did not make up for anything as they weren t good at that either. Obviously old port is a tourist trap restaurant wise, but this is flat out ridiculous. My French mother would ve had a conniption fit and left after seeing the food.
EXCELLENT attention, fast service, very good flavors and quantity. They are attentive to all the details, they even bring bowls with warm water and lemon to sanitize your hands after tasting the seafood. cumin on the sidewalk with flowerbeds loaded with flowers that separate them from passersby. They just need more beer options.
Unwelcoming staff, they accept people based on their appearance and only to eat, otherwise they find other excuses to dump customers. Lack of professionalism and respect.
The food was great! It reminds us when we were in Portugal. The staff was so friendly and courteous. I would highly recommend this place.
The food was very small portion but good quality. Although they charged $5 for water we didnt ask for and table service $5. I mean putting water on tables is very basic at such restaurants. In the end we paid %10 tip after seeing those extra charges, but my god the waiter was waiting just beside us and checking how much we tip and started winning and asking for minimum %15. It s not a pleasant experience.
Best Lobster I ve had, ate the plate clean. Wonderful service and friendly staff. Thank you!
This was a disappointing experience. The service felt rushed and distracted. The server appeared to show little interest in waiting tables and more interest in securing walk by guests. The food was very bland and fresh from the microwave oven. Our duck was raw. They removed it and then returned it on a very hot plate but little difference in the duck itself. We left the duck and were charged anyway. We asked for water, but again, people passing by took up all the attention of the waiter. Perhaps sitting outside was the problem. I would not return or recommend.
Stopped in by myself after dinner for a drink and dessert. Perfect patio to soak up the atmosphere of Old Montreal!
Very french like atmosphere: cool, cozy, intimate, jazzy...Food was excellent. I had the escargot and the duck. Simply delicious! Service was on point. promise myself to go back
We had a simple Childrens Day (May 5th, 2024) event. The restaurant owner showed us a simple magic trick. Everyone was amazed.
Without doubt the best food we had in montreal, wine is a little pricey though But great service Food
The worst service I have seen in my life after 10 years in Montreal. We waited 15 minutes before the hostess came to seat us. Another 15 minutes before the waiter came to serve us. The restaurant was empty, not a cat. After a beer each one brings us the bill when we ask for it, under the pretext that we have to vacate the table in 30 minutes!!! The waitress does not appreciate the fact that we are only having a beer and she makes it clear to us out loud (she was informed when we entered that we did not want to eat but accepted). A shame I didnt know that the respect given to customers depends on the amount of the bill. A cheap restaurant, the toilets are dirty fortunately we didnt eat there! Fortunately, the old port is full of beautiful places with courteous and respectful service.
Very warm atmosphere. Entree was very filling, and we were all very fond of the desserts. Glad we came.
Very good had the caribou and lamb. Would recommend. Have the gin infusion very good.
Please be aware of this restaurant. Way over priced for what you receive. I understand its fine dinning, but my family was still hungry after spending 120$.
Excellent service, food worthy of a Michelin chef, cooking, choice of meats, sauces, EVERYTHING was perfect
The tips are included in recipe. Review recipe carefully.
Everything is divine, starting with the service which is 5 stars and the food which is a guilty pleasure with every bite!! Its good until the last drop!
Great experience for the new year eve dinner, highly recommand the gibier plat, and the wines. We do enjoy the service professional and courtsy, will definitely go again.
My husband and I went to this restaurant for dinner today. Overall the experience was very nice. My husband was a huge fan. I m a very picky eater so I got the chicken pari pari. The flavour was good but it was served with fries and veggies so it was hard to eat the chicken dry without any rice or sauce. Other than that I got the Caesar salad which was decent. My husband got the French onion soup which was amazing! He got the duck which he really enjoyed as well. We shared a creme brûlée for desert which was phenomenal!!! Over all everything was good. I just didn t enjoy my main dish!
This restaurant is a must for game lovers.
Really average Little or no spice
Very good taste discovery. The service is quality, the servers are available, know the dishes and are very patient. The meal was well seasoned and the cooking instructions were perfect. The restaurant was very quiet. Kid-friendliness: There is no childrens menu but many dishes are accessible to them and they kindly separated a steak for my two children, the meat was very tender.
A beautiful little gem of a restaurant in Old Montreal!
Eating like in a dream, tasting the taste of glory is possible in Montreal, visit this place recommended by #soyfenixer #unidoscontralatransphobia2023
Had a great experience here! Loved the ambiance and the food tasted really good as well. Their French onion soup and crème brûlée are a must try!
Excellent meal and service. We were a party of 6 and all enjoyed their meals, which were prepared and served with care.
This French restaurant has better food than the restaurants I have eaten in in Paris, France, and the service is also first-rate.
6 of our family members got together from out of town on a Friday night and managed to find a gem of a restaurant in Old Montreal called La Sauvagine. We were all very pleased with the service and the food. The two gentlemen serving us were professional and helpful. They recommended excellent choices which did not disappoint. The food was served in a timely manner and everyones dish was hot and delicious. This is a definite place to return. Unfortunately, the only photo I took was of their crème brûlée.
Our first time in Montreal, arrived in this charming part almost by mistake, walked into La Sauvagine because it was really cold, glad we did. We were offered a nice table on a platform by the window, was great as the heating system runs just by it, we were comfortable right away. Our waiter, I believe David is his name was extremely friendly yet professional as the rest of the staff. We shared Escargots as our appetizer, really delicious. My gf had the duck that was prepared really well, I opted for the filet Mignon prepared table side, a definite show that hit and surpassed the mark, great sauce enriched with brandy, mushrooms, shallots/onions... We finished the meal with profiteroles and French crêpes, one would have been enough, perhaps the profiteroles. Our dinner at LA Savagine will definitely go down as a memorable one. We highly recommend it.
Absolutely perfect
Fantastic. Had the wild game trio. Bison was my favorite but all were delicious. Great staff! Definitely recommend if youre adventurous.
Everything about Sauvagine was absolutely stellar! We went on a Monday night and it was great, the staff were so attentive!
Impeccable service from the moment we walked in to the time we left. David, our waiter, is an old hand who knows his stuff. The dorade (fish) was very good with David deboning it on a plate heater by your table. The scallops unfortunately were small and the sauce too creamy. We had both the scallops with pastis and the ones with Portuguese chorizo (from Solmar). The foie gras (in filo pastry) is burned on the outside with the inside still raw. Terrible. The trio de canard is reasonably good. The trio of wild game is good except for the elk meat which is too chewy. The Pinot noir from Portugal is strong but still smooth to the palate. Definitely not a Domaine de la Romanée Conti but acceptable given the price tag. The decor is more suitable for baby boomers than for younger generations. All in, an enjoyable evening of dinner for 3.
Food was excellent. All the waiters were friendly. Excellent service. I will definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Old Montreal
Just coming to quench our thirst, we want sodas and water. Not content to see us not order alcohol or food, we are forced to take mineral water and not the simple tap water traditionally served in restaurants. We are served and it is sparkling water and not still water as requested. We point this out, in addition to the fact that other customers have water served even though we were told there was none. The person tells us that she is not bubbly, and we answer that that is precisely what we want. He leaves and comes back with mineral water (charged, therefore). In addition, even the drinks have been inverted (zero and classic version), and have a taste that very little resembles the requested drink. Deplorable service from crossers, move on
Since covid we had become very disappointed with our usual haunts, but La Sauvagine was a truly fabulous experience. They serve perfectly cooked game and excellent seafood. The excellent service and ambience was the cherry on top. We cannot wait to go back. Highly recommended.
La Sauvagine has a lovely authentic, bistro atmosphere. Jazz played in the background. We ordered the caeser salad, vegetable soup, grilled porgy, sautéed cod and potato, and the poached pear with wine sauce for dessert. We also had a bottle of Chardonnay. The service was attentive and the food was delicious.
The waiter was so rude and demanded more tips. He harrased us stating that our 7% tip was too small, insisted it should be at least 15%. Also made a condescending remark about us fitting better with the crowd that ate at McDonalds.
It don t look like a real French restaurant to me. It is not delicate. Doesn t worth the price. Expensive and not fresh, the snails is premade and just warm it up.
Terrible. An hour wait after our order, then the food was terrible. It looks like the vegetables were frozen. The meat was completely dry. We had to eat at home! I dont recommend.
The overall atmosphere and service are good, however, its an expensive place and the food is salty.
Beautiful place with jazz played in the background .So delicious and variety french cuisine . Good staff ! Food
Amazing French cuisine! The food was amazing! The servers were great.
Verify your receipt, I got 1 small sparkling water with my food and he seemed disapointed I didnt order alcohol and he had charged 8$ before taxes, when I ask about it, he changed it for the normal price of 5$. When its time to pay, the waiter is over you for the tip before you even put the tip. They should back away and let me tip and put my nip in privacy. Careful if youre a tourist. On the terminal, they put: 15% or 20% or 25% tip and no other % options, but at the bottom, you can choose $ and put your own cash amount.
Overall was an alright experience. Major con was asking to have pasta with tomato sauce for a year old and a 2 year old and being charged $32 for 2 small plates.
Very nice restaurant in the heart of Old Mtl but above all in the heart of the excitement of St-Paul Street! Beautiful atmosphere, very courteous service, a variety of choices on the menu, good food with fairly generous portions as well as a fairly good quality/price ratio. Thank you I definitely recommend. ;)
We went there for drinks as we were dehydrated. We had a couple of beerrs and wines. Had a blast. They even provided water to our dog. ANTHONY was our server and he is the best. Talk to us and made us laugh. Im still a Braves fan but you are the best
Lamb and Cod dinners were superb. The server was incredibly well informed, and professionally helpful. The atmosphere was quiet and charming.
A beautiful atmosphere with French music playing made us feel right in the mood for delicious food. The wild game pate was very tasty and had the best olives I have ever tasted The wild game trio and rack of lamb was also exceptional. The service was wonderful, this meal was a highlight of our trip to Montreal.
Exceptional family-owned restaurant, with first-rate food, service and atmosphere. My family had the privilege of dining here twice, once last spring, and again this fall. The owner, her daughter, and servers Anthony, Manuel, and Miguel were very engaging and attentive, and made our visits truly memorable occasions. We visit Montreal once or twice each year to shop and take in a Habs game, and La Sauvagine definitely has become integral to this pilgrimage.
We wanted some oysters and this place did not disappoint. Oysters were from St Edward Island and they were delicious. You didnt need anything extra on top...not too salty. I added some vinegar and hot sauce-perfect combo for me.
I really enjoyed this restaurant. Their wine selection is amazing.
Best hidden gem of Montreal, in the most precious gem of old Montreal. My husband and I came from New York City to find a restaurant which compares favorably to our favorite NYC restaurants. The place is so beautiful and so very romantic, Cosy and artistic with a great selection of background music. The food is so delicious, The service is impeccable and the staff is warm, welcoming well mannered and professional. Any visitor to beautiful Montreal who misses this exceptional restaurant has missed a marvelous experience.
An excellent restaurant and the service too. I recommend
Excellent ! The 2013 Portuguese wine is great The rack of lamb is recommended Top service
Had a take out during lockdown, which turned out to be the best meal weve had during our stay in Canada from London. Scallops and prawns for starter, Salmon and Seaford pasta for main... all of which were perfectly cooked and seasoned so well. Real quality food, support your local business during these difficult times because they deserve it!
Loved everything about the place, especially the service. The lady serving us was very attentive . The food was amazing. Especially the french onion soup. We tried the Peri Peri chicken and the lamb shanks both were very very tasty. Definitely recommend and would love to go back!
Great location, nice service lovely food, portuguese cuisine
Excellent service, warm atmosphere and delicious meals!
Generally a great service with a beautiful ambience of Old Montreal. The food was good but beware that the Pot au feu de poisson & Coquillages aux fruits de mer Seafood bouillabaisse shows lobster on the menu which is why I ordered . However disappointedly, there is no lobster since it was taken off since covid . Could do with a menu update or inform the guest when ordering.
This is honestly one of the best restaurants to go to in Old Montreal! We went at 10:30pm (not intentionally!) and even though they said the kitchen was almost closing they still took us in for as long as we ordered fast. They were so accommodating and friendly! We ordered the steak and the seafood pasta and THEY WERE AMAZING! The sauce of the pasta was so delicious! All the flavours blended so well! It is now my go-to place in Old Montreal! 5/5!!! Yumm!
Good service but very difficult to stomach the food
I took the seafood pasta and the oysters (10/10)
Excellent meal, impeccable service. Superb warm place as there are so few left.
Waiter (of a certain age) who makes a mistake and doesnt really understand my order, so far so good, not so serious... but is insulted when I give him 15% tip! Leaves without greeting or thank you.... we will return to the service!! Average dishes!
Really good food, and really nice staff. Our waiter, Manuel, was excellent, and we ordered his suggestions, including a dish that came with three different game meats (bison, elk and venison). But be ready to spend $$$. Worth coming back though!
Everything we tasted was very good. Server a little cold and not warm but otherwise friendly welcome, clean restaurant.
I m really not impressed at all and definitely wouldn t recommend sauvagine. - we sat down and waited for over 20min before the waiter came to take our order. - The French onion soup was full of croûton and not enough soup. - The duck confi was dry and skinny. Not a lot to eat. - The steak frite was ok but the fries were dry and not seasoned. - The linguini seafood were really just the same as what I d get from Baton Rouge restaurant chain.. so these were totally not French AT ALL. Sorry but this restaurant is only well located but the food is DEFINITELY not French and nowhere close to French food. I ll never go there again.
Dined here and got food poisoning and threw up till 7am.
Ordered the 3 gibiers (bison, elk, deer) because I was hoping to experience the difference across the 3 meats. Asked for rare (twice) and got well done. Wasnt even close, hence the negative review.
Fantastic Portuguese family owned restaurant. I go there every time I visit Montreal. Classy ambiance, chic place and servers Jean-Jacques and Jean-Claude always gave good service, but alas both have retired since Covid began. Nevertheless owner David Dias and his new staff are excellent. The only thing that needs improvement is that they should provide a pitcher of tap water as in other restaurants and not force bottled water on their customers. We do not like the taste of most bottled water. Furthermore tap water has hygiene standards set by the City of Montreal whereas bottled water only has manufacturer set standards that are not as strict. I hope David takes a note of this.
I give too much expectation However just so so
They charge 5$ for a NAYA bottle of water that we did not order. They say they don t have tap water...
Gourmet restaurant that me and my girlfriend really loved
Very amazing cervice. Seafood is amazing. More delicious sea food salad. Spaghetti with sea food is tender. Very recommend it.
The rdstoran so nice personal , the service so amazing. Seafood is fresh and delicious. Very recommend it.
Amazing food! Most good restaurants are closed on Monday in Montreal, not la sauvagine !!
My husband and I loved this place. Not only was the food great, the service was wonderful.
Had our company Christmas party here and the food and service were wonderful.
We ordered to take away: oysters, leg of lamb, duck with orange and crème brûlée. I was apprehensive about the takeaway , but everything was delicious! Cooking as if it were homemade! Thank you very much for this excellent dinner! We will come back after the pandemic without fail!
Delicious meal near Sauvagine.
Won t go there again.I don t have a big appetite but I think the portions were too tiny . I felt like ordering from children s menu !! The food was cold and tasteless.
Overall okay experience up until they ruined my entire trip to Old Port. Appeared to be very friendly but when I didnt give them a 25% tip which they demanded it became very uncomfortable and attempted to negotiate with me so I wouldnt leave until I gave them 25% tip. Ive been to many restaurants all over the world and have never experienced this. Their location does not guarantee a 25+% tip.
I ve been to other restaurants where they ve provided exceptional service and they never demanded to be given a 30% tip and whatever amount we ve provided they were grateful, but in this restaurant they ve forgotten that the tip amount is optional and not only depends on the location, it is based on other skills, not some cold bread with single use margarine. In other restaurants they ve provided a warm loaf of bread, with olive oil and balsamic vinegar with actual butter. Will not return or recommend ever. 1/5
JULY, 3RD, 2021 We were received by a waitress that offer us a seat and told us they only have a wine menu, however the bar can do whatever you want. When the waitor came, a senior we ask few more minutes to order. When he came back, we asked him again if there is really no cocktail menu, he said no so I ordered a Bellini and my friends asked for the beer. The waitor said he did not have time, we should order quickly, on 50 years, he never heard about a cocktail named bellini and I should order fast because he lost a lot of time. I said it is not a way to talk to the client, he repeated he does not have time and they have 3 cocktails. Cocktail that I dont know. I asked if there is something with peach or fruity and he said listen it is a long time I work here. I ordered a rose because my friend was waiting and I felt the conversation does go anywhere. Very bad service when the season just started again. I had so much better service in other bars and restaurant were they were happy to finally have customers again. I escalated right away to the manager that told me this waitor has a lot of experiences, which I did not see. With a lot a customers in the restaurant, ok it is not my problem how you manage the rush. I do not recommend. Zero star if I could. The conversation was in French so it is not a language issue.
Amazing place, people vibes.
Rather disappointing restaurant compared to the rather high menu prices. I went to this restaurant last Saturday. We had several servers who all seemed a little confused. The drinks arrived well after the ordered dish. The sangria was quite questionable with a funny anise taste...luckily we were not charged for this drink. Very long wait to receive the invoice. In short, I dont really recommend it.
Very good
Very good service with a waiter who told us lots of anecdotes
One of the worst restaurants we have had the misfortune to dine in. Pretentious and haughty service. Not a smile all evening from the waiters. The man who served us was very rude. Additionally, the food is way overpriced for the quality served. Cold food, overcooked meat, no seasoning. In addition, our glasses and cutlery were dirty. A very bad experience, unfortunately.
Came there yesterday, put our names on the list, were told we will get a call in 40 mins. More time passed and we came to check, apparently they forgot about us but whatever it s fine, they gave us a table. We were waiting for a waiter for a bit and when he came I asked a question about the menu and instead of answering me, I received do you just need more time? . I said ok fine. Made an order, waited for a bit, my medium rare steak came out cold, the gravy on it already had a film because it was sitting at the back for a while apparently, my boyfriend chicken was very dry and we had to pay $115 for that. We had to eat it as we were waiting for so long and we were starving. Really disappointed, I was hoping it was a good place.
Surprised by some of the reviews. Was very impressed with this restaurants service. The hostess lady was very nice and explained the two menus both French and Portuguese. the food was exceptional for the price; great value and authentic cuisine both French and Portuguese. It is open very late and on a busy walking street so I expect a lot of English tourists come here and are turned off by the wait times, but it has one of the biggest patios of Old Montreal. Also the waiters are old school and no BS and efficient So that could also turn off tourists but it s a fast paced environment and dealing with drunk English raucous obnoxious tourists all the time I m sure can be exhausting. Overall would highly recommend and was one of our favorite restaurants on our trip and we dined and placed 5X the price!
Loved the vibes and great wine!
To avoid. Nothing was good, not even the Caesar salad.
Superb terrace with a view of the pedestrian street. The welcome and service was perfect. Excellent value for money. All of our guests loved their starters and mains. I recommend the calamari plate. I will return to this restaurant.
Just walk in without reservation. Didnt have much expectations but to my surprise, food taste good, very reasonable price and friendly service
Resto looked nice.. wish they would have seated us so we could have tried it. They were rude while we waited for a table. Random dude just wiped tables and didn t seat us or explain what he was doing?
I love servers! And food of course
Good duck. Would go again.
Delicious food great drinks and an amazing waiter/maitre D couldnt ask for a better evening!
We stopped by after the kitchen closed just to have a drink outside on a warm summer evening, and the host told us we would be in their way unless we sat at one of two tables of the many that were empty. Upon our expressing some displeasure at her unwelcoming attitude, she doubled down on her inhospitable position by emphasizing that we would indeed be in her way as they set up for the next day. At La Sauvagine, the staff seem to have forgotten that the restaurant exists to serve guests. I encourage everyone to avoid this place, if you hope to be treated with respect and courtesy!
Just a tourist trap. Frozen meat drowned in sauce to hide the missing freshness. Worst sangria ever.
Amazing food, friendly staff
Didnt even get in because they couldnt accept a party greater than 4. Poor accomodations
We eat very well there
I understand the long wait for the entree. What I dont get is the long wait for coffee. We already finished the desserts and still no coffee. I asked the server that we were still waiting for the coffee. His response as he was walking away : I know. Im waiting for it, too. Wrong answer. No apologies, and walking away while talking to us? No bueno. And when my son paid for the bill, he forgot to add the tip, (the bill had other amounts which I assume was a tax, but not the other item on the bottom, after the total), which the server told my son directly that the amount he signed did not include the tip. So my son added the tip. But asking directly for the tip after that conversation about coffee above? Maybe he did not realized that his behavior was not professional. On the positive side, lamb shank was good, pasta with was good. But the grilled squid was just meh. EDIT TO ADD/CORRECTION: I asked my son about the tip and he said he gave 10% tip because, you know, the service. But the waiter said the minimum is 15%. I always thought tip depends on the quality of food and service. Maybe not in this restaurant.
Food was good and staff very nice.
Fantastic food, great service, and the ability to order from both restaurants seals the deal as an ideal place to eat. Have the Spanish coffee for dessert!
Excellent service, the waiters speak Spanish which is good for tourists who do not speak Spanish
Terrible experience. Quality of food is so bad I can t even describe it. The Steak cut was bad, full of fat and un-chewable, called the waited and asked to return it, got attitude, eye rolling and mumbling like I ve never seen in a service industry. The waiter finally took the plate after trying to push me to eat it cause he thinks it looks good, when he finally took it, with his mumbling on the side, I was surprised no one bothered to come apologize for this situation. When the bill came, it had my steak, I paid but said I was surprised that they had the nerve to add it, i literally took one bite and spit it out, the rest of the steak was cut because I was trying to find a piece of meat, but left it uneaten when all I could find was fat, the waiter said why would we remove it from the cheque, we looked at steak and thought it looked good and so it s your problem not ours! Seriously not recommended, tourist trap! Location is great, but food quality and service is beyond terrible. NOT RECOMMENDED!
Wow great service! Dinner with excellent tapas, thanks to the team. We had the chance to meet several people from the staff and each of them were most pleasant, thank you
I like it, the food is great, the server is excellent, I will definitely go back.
Our second night in Vieux-Port, Old Montreal, and looking for a uniquely Quebecois/French dining experience. We had viewed the menu earlier in the day and eschewing the more touristy haunts, entered La Sauvagine on Rue St. Paul. The setting is cozy, the service impeccable, and an amazing menu selection combining uniquely Quebec cuisine, including a variety of game meats, with French bistro overtones. Additionally, there is a substantial wine and spirits selection. This is a hidden gem, not yet discovered by the masses, and well worth a visit.
A great, low key, comfortable restaurant featuring Quebecois and wild game.
Very good menue! It was authentic and well executed Canadian cuisine. We took the Tuango offer and went on week night. It was nice and quiet. The staff was polite and effective. The quality/price ratio was perfect. Everything on the menu sounded delicious. It s perfect for people wanting to explore the old Montreal and finish the night nicely at a Canadian super.
Very pleasurable evening meal.
Delicious food, elegant atmosphere but lost 1 star because it was cold everywhere in the restaurant.
First time in Montréal, I tried this place based off reviews on google map. They were okay. The food was neither good or bad. I feel like I should ve ordered something more savory but I ll give them another try for sure. They just didn t impress me the first time.
Excellent service, good meal, generous portions
We had two streak et frites with a kids meal, all was perfect. We got plenty of home made bread buns and butter. Our waiter Michael was genuinely friendly and very keen on our comfort and giving us a great experience. We totally recommend it to discover authentic bistro style French cuisine in the heart of Old Montreal
Excellent service and food, we really enjoyed ourselves! Especially not easy for restaurants these days. Thank you so much!
It was my wife s and my birthday and we had reservations at Bevo but they did not fulfill them. We found Le Sauvagine by chance and could not have been happier. Everything from the service to the meal to the bill was utter perfection. We will definitely return. Old school charm at its best. The gentleman who served us was a prince amongst men. Thank you.
Im usually cheerful and I force myself to find the positive in everything, but this restaurant disappointed me in many ways. The staff is really not attentive, we got our plates wrong, we didnt really know who our server was... Skip the sangria, I think it doesnt contain any wine at all. On the other hand, the onion soup was excellent, the crusted snails too, but the wild boar was average. I think you can find much better for the same price around. Oh, and if youre thinking about paying separately, I advise you to say so from the start, otherwise its quite an adventure that awaits you...
Excellent from start to finish...so many choices for both fish and game lovers. Everyone will find what they are looking for and will be able to enjoy themselves.
Great place! Good choice of wine. Duck trio is delicious! Onion soup is great as well. Good service.
Fine French and Spanish cuisine for tapas, served on the terrace in old Montreal. Original grilled squid, game pâté, scallops with chorizo and salad with duck confit were delicious. Good Tempranillo wine. Perfect welcome and service on the terrace. Run there while the terrace is still open! A success for our... second outing since March...
We were 2 couples who are good epicureans, visited on September 12, 2020 and this was unanimous among all. AVOID THIS RESTAURANT AT ALL COST, MEAT NOT FRESH AND NOT PROPERLY COOKED (DUO or TRIO OF GAME) AND EVERYTHING IS TASTELESS AND WE LEFT 3 PLATES OUT OF 4. NOT GOING TO THIS RESTAURANT WILL MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER.
Beautiful and cozy place with delicious foods and perfect drinks and cocktails
Tasty food and big portions. Excellent value for money. Attentive service.
Great food. The grilled Sardines was great
Worst service we had in a long time Nobody is smiling and we seem to be bothering them Ok. Well go elsewhere
Beautiful restaurant in old Montreal, the food was tasty, very good service, experience to repeat that I said to myself, second time, quite the opposite, lousy service, I didnt get the right fish and there was no question of changing it , the owner was very unpleasant, in short I will never go back there...
worst restaurant experience for me this year. incredibly long service, several errors in plates and dishes ordered/served.. fries served cold returned and replaced only when I had finished the rest of my plate. No compensation offered by the manager. $120 bill for two people.
The food was good, a little expensive but the sangria was truly Maka, tasteless and watery, better order wine
Very bad. Above all, dont go there. Supposedly French cuisine! Duck leg overcooked, tough, inedible. Dry rice. Garnish with 4 boiled green beans and 2 carrots, the same in water. No flavor. Beef served with 2 mini potatoes and green beans and carrots. It only has the French name! We are French and have not found our cuisine in any way. We come out hungry and paid a lot for what was on the plate. Above all, move on.
3 Star is for the view, 2 star for the food. I ordered duck confit and it was not good. The salad and soup was average.
Disappointing. Great location with a nice patio. Servers were nice and helpful but seemed overwhelmed. Service was very very slow. Prices were expensive and food did not justify it. Even the bread was stale and the butter was served in those plastic single serve containers. At $40 an entree, would have expected better.
Nice
Pfffff what can I say.... Trap tourists. Only use a spare wheel. No interest.
Good service, nice patio but very expensive for the size of the plates. 2 people, 1 entree and a shared main dish: total $110
Wonderful location and food.
Under the ground I feel Ike the bat man. 5 star
The setting of the restaurant is very pretty, the waiters are busy providing good service. However, a few details such as the poor quality and cold bread served at the table, the cold crème brûlée, the olive bottles without corks, demonstrate that the restaurant should renew itself and that it is far from being a chic restaurant.
Excellent service. All the staff made us feel like we were unique in the world. The food was good, nothing more.
The main meal was good. The skills of uncorking and pouring wine were not some you would expect of a professional. Orange sorbet tasted like plastic, try to avoid it. We were quite unsatisfied with the behavior of the staff. When we selected to give a 10% tip, they insisted 15% being passive aggressive about it. We would not recommend this restaurant, although the meat was prepared quite well.
Great service and ambiance!
The waiters were very rushed to take the request and pick up the dishes!!!. They seemed strange and a little disturbing around the customers tables. Its not professional.
Game at its best!
I brought friends from out of town to this place and we were all completely disappointed. We had to return 1 dish 3 times! 1st dish: overcooked pasta 2nd dish: A big piece of plastic in the food 3rd dish: they forgot to put piri piri sauce (main ingredient) We were all done eating for at least 30minutes before one of us can finally get the right plate. They didnt charge for one of the plates. But still disappointed.
The most disgusting restaurant I ever been to my life, they destroyed my appetite by messed up with my meal three times, horrible experience, piece of plastic in the food, linguine overcooked, literary melted in my mouth. Extremely disappointed.
Just fine. Too costly for what you get. Our dinner didnt have the value of 150$ we were charged, it was just ok. I would expect something more fancy for that price.
Top!
