Love the live jazz but other diner may not share the same interest so tends to get pound when ppl wants to talk over the musicians

Food was okay, but service and live music were great!

Modavie is an absolute gem! The cozy ambiance makes it perfect for a relaxing meal, and the food is simply outstanding bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. A must-visit for anyone seeking a warm atmosphere and delicious cuisine!

Delicious meal, great service, wonderful.atmosphere, with a jazz band playing in the background, enjoyed the rack of lamb. Still was a bit pricey.

If I could rate higher, I would without any hesitation. Upon entering we were greeted and sat, despite not having a reservation. We did arrive earlier than the usual dinner crowd though, which played a part in our prompt seating. Our server was friendly and charming, and answered all of our questions. He suggested a few dishes, and was timely with his service refiling our drinks. The bill was quite reasonable, given our service and portion sizes, not to mention great quality of food.

Everything was great except it was so loud. I m a 26 year old woman and my ears were ringing. The jazz band compounded with the table behind us. My ears were in pain. We were downstairs too, further from the band. I had the lamb chop and profiterole with a latte. Absolutely wonderful. You ll get a great dinner but not a quiet one !

Excellent vibes with live music! They have a nice selection of wines, and the beef tartar is a must!

Hello, we were a group of 4 people, three of us had the salad and a friend had the soup. The soup was OK, but the salad was as if we ordered sour wine, vinaigrette with a bit of lettuce which was very disappointing. The waiter offered to replace it. We were already saturated with vinaigrette My friend had the undercooked quail and the carpaccio ok but nothing more. .know that we like to eat in good restaurants. Maybe we had the wrong day! So we will continue to go to the restaurants we know without disappointment..

It s worth trying their duck confit and mussels and fries, the sauce on both dishes was so good! We also ordered onion soup and beef tartare for starters, the soup was a bit salty and the toast served with the beef was a bit hard. They tasted good but werent as good as the main courses. Their bread basket was so delicious btw

With a fireplace that warmed our bodies as much as our hearts, our host offered us impeccable service. Recommended, we chose the strip steak garnished with a delectable sauce and vegetables cooked to perfection; We were not disappointed. The price being still reasonable, we chose a wine at $65 which is among the cheapest on the menu. I would go back without hesitation to taste one of the specialty dishes, lamb, and to experience the atmosphere with the musicians who were still not there so early on a Monday.

The food was great! They have a nice wine selection and the sommelier is always to help. The atmosphere is very nice upstairs especially if there s live music.

Honest review. For the price this restaurant is excellent. The service is great, the atmosphere excellent. If you get there on the earlier side it is kid friendly. I had the rack of lamb and I was hesitant when my waiter mentioned it was a lamb and red wine reduction and mint. Mint is used and overused on lamb and Ive seen it overpower many a delicious meal. However, it was subtle to perfection. Just the hint of mint which added just a little clear bite to the deliciousness of the red wine reduction and the crispness of the charred herb. A delightful experience all around. Kid-friendliness: It is kid friendly when youre there on the earlier side (6pm).

Amazing lamb dinner in inviting decor. Best lamb chops I ve had in a long time, marinade was delicious with rosemary, olive oil and slight tang of lemon. Vegetable accompaniment was perfect. Just the right portion size to have dessert and not feel too full. We went early with our toddler and they had a high chair available. Kid-friendliness: They accommodated our toddler with a high chair. Bring your own entertainment for children. Restaurant is more focused on adult enjoyment, rather than family environment (in a well meaning way). Go earlier when it s quieter

Excellent service! Went for a dinner with my family. I would say the food was pretty average considering the prices. Also wish they have better cocktails. My mom loved the duck confit though.

Don t try to come here for after dinner drinks or wine. The only option is to eat a full meal. We spent over $200 in wine but that wasn t enough. It s fine I just wish we knew before we got there. The hostess said it was ok when we got seated. The waiter neglected the whole visit after we ordered wine. The manager talked to us after the server explained our confusion - we offered to pay the min needed for food. He rudely refused and mansplained the policy on eating a full meal even at 10pm at night. We finished our wine and left as soon as possible as we clearly weren t wanted at this establishment.

Gluten Free options make this a great spot in Old Montreal! The prices are a bit steep for the portion size but the meals are still very tasty.

I went for my works Christmas party, the staff are superb, very friendly. Our glass was never empty and the food was excellent and what about the chocolate fondant, it was delicious! Beautiful atmosphere too, beautiful place to discover.

Tourists spot, food is mid. I was excited to come here but worst decision ever. Especially our main server was so rude. She judged us by our race. BUT Jazze was amazing I wanted to give my all tips to them. *The food is really not that good. The price is reasonable, but there are many other delicious places, so I recommend going there; Not all servers are like that, but our server ignored Asians ^^ If it wasnt racism, the service was just poor.

A very nice place to spend a perfect night with your partner or friends. The interior design and the overall mood of the restaurant are amazing. The cocktails are worth mentioning there s a wide variety to choose from. As for the food, they easily serve the best poutine I ve ever had in a restaurant of this kind. I ordered the Lamb Cavatelli, and while it could have included more lamb, the rest of the experience more than made up for it.

Wow! We had an excellent experience at modavie! From arranging the reservation of 23 people to the level of service and the food, we were well taken care of :) The jazz band was also a lovely touch, thank you for making our celebration special :)

For a birthday, we had to take a set menu at $60 per person, with no à la carte option. The salad was disgraceful: the leaves were limp and soggy, and the dressing (if you can call it a dressing) was nothing but pure oil. The gnocchi were soft and without structure, as if I was eating gnocchi-shaped puree. My friends chicken was dry. Finally, the crème brûlée was tasteless, with no sugar or vanilla flavoring. The live band was way too loud, and the service took 2.5 hours (just that!). A cool $90 in the trash.

Food was very disappointing. We chose the place based on location, thinking you couldnt possibly mess up Steak Frites, but those and the mussels were mediocre. Beef tartare and lamb pasta were good.

This place is absolutely perfect! The food was delicious, and our server, Christian, was super attentive. He really gave a boost to our experience! He was also very patient in letting us practise our French. We really appreciated it! We would come back to Montreal just to eat here again!

We went on a Sunday lunchtime for dinner with friends. There were musicians on site to create an atmosphere. Very good choice of lunch or dinner. I had the flank steak as well as the salmon tartare which were both excellent. The service was impeccable. Im going back for sure.

Overall, the lamb rack was the top notch. However, I want to point out that their Vanila Creme Brulee didnt include proper amount of Madagascar Vanilla beans. No seeds and no enough flavors. Again, great food and drinks. Just be aware of your deserts

I was here some time ago, and what I really didnt like was that the waiter didnt ask if we wanted anything to be included in the dish, if we wanted a large or small portion. Ill explain: we ordered veal tartare and no one asked us if we wanted a large or small one, they just brought us a large one, and in some dishes there are additional ingredients at the bottom (Garlic snails and 1608 gratin below them for 6 extra dollars) and the price for them, so no one asked about them either, they were just added to the dish. I ordered salmon filet, which was a little bit dry and classic beef tartare, which was good. My friends also ate onion soup and garlic snails, they were also good. Some portions were big, some very small. Also it is very cool atmosphere with a live music there

Its my first time coming to this place, specifically to celebrate my birthday. We made a reservation at 6:30 p.m., when we arrived the hotel told us that we could stay two hours. We ordered our food, everything was very good until after eating the waitress asked us if we wanted dessert, I told her not for the moment then she looked at the clock and left, after 5 minutes she came back and asked if we wanted something else, she We said not yet, then she looked at the clock again and left. This happened at 7:35 p.m. The truth is that this attitude made us very uncomfortable, as it was rushing us to ask for more or leave. Because of this inconvenience, we prefer to ask for the bill and leave.

I went to Modavie to celebrate my wifes birthday, with high expectations based on my previous experiences. I worked for seven years for the Antonopoulos group, to which this restaurant belongs, and I always considered it an excellent place. Thats why I chose this restaurant, hoping to give my wife a special time. Unfortunately, the experience was quite the opposite. The main problem was the service. After finishing our starter and main course, we were presented with the dessert menu. However, Im not one to order dessert immediately after a meal; I like to take my time to make a good choice, especially since it was a birthday. During this time, the waitress, whose name was, if I remember correctly, Ninio, came twice to ask us if we wanted to order. Each time, she looked at her watch and repeated, Oh, not now? , which made us feel rushed and uncomfortable. My wife felt so uncomfortable that she preferred to leave early. Although I am aware that table reservation is limited to two hours, we were there for only an hour but decided to leave 30 minutes before our slot ended due to the attitude of the waitress. Unfortunately, my wife was unable to enjoy a dessert for her birthday, which ruined the moment I had planned for her. It was a disappointing experience, especially considering the high expectations I had due to my years with the Antonopoulos Group. I hope the team takes note of this situation and looks to improve customer service to prevent others from having a similar experience.

Worst restaurant experience of my life. And yet I know what Im talking about, having been in the business for several years, I recognize this as a tourist trap. Dont be fooled by the chic look of the restaurant, because the food really isnt up to par. We arrived, we had not been warned by our friend that we had a compulsory package of 60 dollars (starter, main courses and desserts) it is certainly not the restaurateurs fault, nevertheless at this price we expect to have quality unfortunately this is what we got: At the entrance we had the right to a salad filled with oil that we could not finish, for the main course I had a tasteless Basque chicken , barely seasoned I couldnt finish either, my friends had really disappointing gnocchi with a really weird aftertaste. The burgers served with McDonalds fries are of doubtful quality. Overall apart from the snails that my friends had as starters, no other dishes were finished. For dessert (the least worst on the menu) a tasteless crème brûlée. The best part of the meal was the bread served hot. Plus a jazz concert (nice of course) but so loud that we couldnt chat together. With all this we arrived at 8 p.m., we ordered late of course but the service was slow. Results of the evening 3 hours of watching and not being able to discuss, 80 dollars less, a stomach ache and a headache. The service was not unpleasant, but it was impossible to sympathize with the waiter because of the noise, which could have saved our evening a little.

Last night we had dinner at Modavie in Montreal. The food was excellent, particularly the sweetbreads entree and the lamb chops main course. The wine list was very good. The highlight of the evening was the service. Caroline C was exceptional!

During our last visit in Montreal, we were happy to found this restaurant. It has a great location close to the old city. The restaurant has great food. And live music which was agreeble to all. The service was on point and overall we had a great time there.

We had a fantastic night with our kids. Wonderful French cuisine especially the Duck Confit and Lamb Chops! So amazignly flavourful and tender! Our server from France named Quentin was sooooooooooooooo nice and attentive!! Will definitely go back next time in Montreal!!

The band playing live house jazz music we had reservation but we still where seated almost 30 minutes past our reservation time which is ODD cause they will cancel the reservation if you come 15 min late it was a Thursday plus . Rhaman was incredible with the service very professional !!

BEWARE THEY DO NOT TAKE ALLERGIES SERIOUSLY. i asked for avocado toast without egg because i have an egg allergy. they served it to me with a poached egg on top and when i reminded them that i have an egg allergy, they took it back to the kitchen, removed the egg and served me the same piece of avocado toast. i could see the imprint that the egg left on the piece of toast. every time i told the servers about my allergies, they would pretend to take the stairs downstairs to the kitchen but come right back out to tell me the same thing. super rude, so much attitude all because i didnt want to die from eating an egg.

Lovely dinner, the server is not good at English so he ended up avoiding our table, which was a large group of 7 and we spent around 100 each in wine and dine so I think it was not so bad to get a lame servicd. Water is not refilled and in a rush to finish us up (and our reservation and got pushed back 45 mins later so not our fault we came 2 hours befote last call). The server mentioned the lamb is specialty of restaurant but it clearly did not executed well, there is still unpleasant lamb smell. But the duck is clearly the star of this restaurant, we got the seared duck and the winter pasta (foie gras & duck meat & truffle) which is absolutely amazing. We will come back just for the pasta. Steak also very good, mashed potato is creamy just enough. As travellers, understanding we went to Quebec but hopefully the server can be a bit more proactive (I mean, doesnt really need to speak any English and just being attentive to refill water or give us some lights on the table in the dark corner?)

This place is a slice of paradise, with its heavenly and wondrous flavors.

I have not eaten here, that s why I am only reviewing the service. We went there on a week night, they had live music and ambiance seemed nice, but the restaurant was pretty empty. The lady at the reception after saying Hi immediately asked if we are gonna eat dinner, I was a bit surprised and we were not sure so I said maybe appetizers and cocktails. Then she said we can not sit at empty tables, we can only sit at the bar. And the bar was facing the wall! There were also some empty wooden bar decks like diners facing the band, I asked the waitress again if we can sit there and she said no, those are kids table! The whole situation was pretty funny and absurd! And again, do many empty tables at 9 in the evening on a week day! So I decided to review the service and the culture of the restaurant. Hopefully this will help them to be more smart and respectful toward clients in the future.

Amazing food, service and jazz music. Prices are quite up there but it is to be expected in the old MTL. Parking: Private parking lot at about 2 min walk away, but Id recommend taking an Uber or the metro. Kid-friendliness: They accept kids but I wouldnt bring them as its semi-loud jazz music and they will probably get over stimulated. Wheelchair accessibility: Its the old MTL.

My girlfriend and I walked past Modavie and saw the menu outside and we were impressed. Buddy our server was very professional and attentive. He gave us a nice description of all the special items. We ordered the Snails and scallops to start and they were delicious. For the second course, we got Duck Confit and the Lamb rack and it was top tier. The cocktail Red Velvet is highly recommended. There was live music. Felt very romantic. If I ever get to go back to Montreal, I will be visiting Modavie every time I am in town. The pre fix menu is also good if you want to try different items on the menu.

We had had very good evenings at Modavie in the past and were happy to return, this time we were seated upstairs, the atmosphere the music and the service were impeccable, although the excellent live music seemed a not very strong at times. The cod was generous but overcooked and accompanied by too rich a sauce. Although the meal was not up to par with our previous visits, the charm of the restaurant remains intact and the atmosphere is pleasant.

The food here was unbelievable. Delicious bread for the table, my friends and I had the cheese platter, breakfast poutine, pesto gnocchi, french toast, chicken caesar salad, basque chicken, mimosas. Out of this world may just be the best food we have ever had!!!

All I can say is incredible place. The food is immaculate. The Best French onion soup Ive ever had. Their Lamb Rack was pure perfection. Ambiance was pleasant. Music was great, and also.. Had the pleasure of seeing a certain celeb from the Jacka** series enjoy the place! If youre newly local or visiting, you have to take the time to treat yourself to this fine digs. Service is prompt, polite, and also down to earth. You will not be disappointed.

First of all, I would like to thank the waiter who took our orders for their continued hospitality. Secondly, the guy who served our main meal mistakenly put it in another table without any apologies thus making me feel annoyed that he didn t do his job properly. This situation also made the people who sat next to us felt embarrassed. He could ve have been tired or something else, either way I wanted to point this out as an experience dining in this restaurant. Overall, the food was great and we look forward to the next visit here! Merci!

Best onion soup I ever had musselds were great. My wife had the lamb which was also just fantastic. I cant say enough about this place. Next time in Montreal Im going back there and so should you.

We got a couple of appetizers, dinner and desert, it totals around $100 a head. Will be back regardless. Best duck and escargot Ive ever had in my life. Parking: Parking isnt easy. Best to just find a lot nearby and park. We had a nice stroll through China Town on our way, made it pleasant.

We went to Modavie for my birthday, and the service was amazing. We had duck confit and mushroom risotto, and of course, the wine, all of which were delicious. The music and ambience were 10/10!

Had an incredible dining experience, highly recommend it! The ambiance was fantastic, our waiter was extremely attentive, and both the lamb pasta and duck were delicious. The crème brûlée was to die for. We were fortunate to snag a table for two without a reservation on a weekend night with live music, but Id recommend making a reservation if possible. As I left the restaurant, I didnt even notice that I had left my jacket behind until our waiter chased after me from another street to return it. 5 stars just for that!

Not gonna lie I came here over a year ago last august and I couldn t stop thinking about the steak knives here. They were so sharp and cut through the steak like butter. The food was also really good. We got drinks and salad as well! service was really good.

I usually dont write reviews, but I felt the need to after our time at Modavie the other night. I see there is not a lot of reviews about their Gluten Free options, which is something I was desperately looking for when traveling to the city last week, so Ill let everyone know that our server said pretty much everything on the entrees and mains are gluten free or can be accommodated. I was thrilled to hear this! We got the Escargots, mushroom risotto, and steak and frites to share. We came in pretty late, with no reservation, and I was nervous we wouldnt be able to sit. However, the restaurant was packed at 10pm on a wednesday, with live music playing. Our server Tyler was incredible and made us feel like we didnt need to rush. Truly a great last night in the city, so I just wanted to say thank you!

Lively and friendly restaurant, with good service and pleasant background music. On the other hand, I must protest against the price of the glass of wine...29 dollars twice and frankly I really thought I had ordered two glasses for 15 dollars (which is already a substantial price)!! In fact, I think that the We got one passed around surreptitiously, which isnt very cool. Really, this is what would prevent me from returning to this establishment which otherwise has great qualities.

We went here for our first night of our honeymoon. The food was delicious, especially the garlic snails! The live music made the atmosphere very romantic. And to top it off, the special dessert we received was so nice. We plan to visit again!

Casual bar restaurant with terrace

Came in for a quick bite off the street. Really great service and excellent food. The only thing bad about the visit was me not ordering more steak tartare. Had the poutine with lamb and it was really good. The onion soup was fantastic as well.

Very aesthetic and pleasant atmosphere with live Jazz musician playing. Service is ok but staff are not to blame. I believe they are doing their best to take good care of their tables but has there is no bartender, they have to make the drinks/cocktails/coffees instade of having a bartender for all beverages in order too keep a good flow in the dinning room. Now, the food... very desapointed, my husband ordered their benedictines but his eegs were welldone and the potatoes were soft, unseasoned and bathing in grease. I ordered a salmon carpaccio that came with very old and dry blinis, dry raddish slices, there was suppose to have citrus but there were none so i asked for a side of lemon, it was also suppose to come with a dill oil, and again there was none. All i tasted was tarragon that was not mentioned in the tittle. I sad has it could be an amazing location for locals!

Great food, ok price and nice atmosphere with live jazz. There is the option of sitting at the bar, which is very spacious, with very comfortable chairs, and have one of the various drink options available. The waiting time is not long as the restaurant is very spacious.

Loved this place, we were a group of 4, and the food was amazing. We did a seafood pasta, the lamb chops, mussels and duck confit, everyone loved their meal and the lamb was especially wonderful. We did crème brûlée, chocolate lava and the chocolate pyramid for dessert, all were amazing. They also have a great wine selection and for groups is great to share a bottle. The best part of the atmosphere was the live music, the woman we had was singing with us and made it so fun.

The food was terribly greasy and salty, but the live band made everything a lot less bad. The restaurant was busy as always, I didn t even have a chance to complain about the food. Two appetizers were great, except the bread for beef tartare; it s hard than granite, was not sure if I m chewing on my teeth or the bread. It should be crispy not a rock. Two main entrees are not as expected as last year. Chef s special pasta tastes like noodles boiled in oil to us. I added extra foie gras and fries as sides, foie gras was served cold, it was gross. Fries is a safe option. Cucumber mojito is highly recommended!!!

Just wanted to drop in for dessert but they wouldn t issue a table despite booking a reservation on Open Table. Neither was sitting at the bar. No effort was made to accommodate my party of 2 on a quiet Tuesday evening. Disappointed.

DISCLAIMER - My 2 hobbies are eating and travelling. I have worked for incredibly talented Chefs both in the United States and Canada and consider myself a good judge of food. I love Michelin dining (especially in Europe), but i am just as happy eating Pho in the Ch B n Thành in H Chí Minh. I have stayed at 5 star hotels and slept in 18 person dorms. I write this, so you know who this review is coming from :) Well, it was just a fail on all fronts. We were 15 minutes late to our reso, we called to let them know, and we were ushered upstairs, past the beautiful dining room, to a dingy attic space. I dont usually care about decor, but when you go from this opulent space to something that looks like it got thrown together as an after thought, well, you sort of feel that way too. But lets forget the decor, and the manager who was standing on the steps most of the evening, texting away (as an industry person, that drove me crazy, especially as his staff was running around), the food and cocktails failed on every account. When the rolls came around, it should have been my time to exit, I know its banal, but bread in bistro says a lot about the bistro. They were dinner rolls you find at the grocery store. I never send food back, but the bone marrow was so unappetizing, we had to. The manager tried to explain to me that, thats how bone marrow is, but it was not cooked properly, and it was topped with an old yellow breadcrumb that was not just visually a miss, but taste wise made the dish stale. The cavatelli pasta was the same brand I buy at the store, and fine, dont make it at the restaurant, but at least cook it properly. It was overdone. The lamb taste was great, but it was pressure cooked so much, that it was too stringy and there was water at the bottom of the serving dish, making it soupy. Lastly, the duck. I sous vide my own duck legs at home. Its HARD to get them to be dry, theres so much fat. This duck leg was covered in a sauce and the meat was bone dry, almost as if they cooked it, and then reheated in a pan which made it lose its moisture. We ate it, because duck is duck, but I could have done it with my eyes closed at home so much better. We ran out for dessert elsewhere not wanting to take a chance further. So much could be done with a bistro, this felt like someone playing kitchen in the kitchen.

I went by on the recommendation of a couple in my tour group earlier that day. I didn t have reservations so I asked to be seated at the bar. The bartender (blonde with a ponytail and a beard) was so attentive and helpful, and the food and cocktail were excellent. I also really enjoyed the music.

Delicious Rack of Lamb with Chateau Neuf de Pape. Perfectly done. Live Music was tasteful and charming. Attentive, happy staff, who look like they are enjoying themselves. I will be coming back again.

Ive popped in here every time Im in Montreal, however, this will be my last visit. The bar was FILTHY with a fruit fly infestation that could not be ignored. What was once a favorite stop while shopping in Old Port, is now a horror show.

Service was excellent and the mains were great but we were so disappointed with the desserts - tiny portions and the lava cake was very dry. (I think it would be really loud with the live band playing, too )

Modavie has fantastic atmosphere. The Jazz band tonight was top notch! Steak frites was sooo flavorful! Flank steak a bit hard to cut but the perfection of its flavor made it one of our favorite steaks ever, especially combined with perfect French fries. The scallops were very tasty with capers and a brown butter sauce. Salad niçoise wasnt up to the other items, too many greens and over dressed. Still a great evening!

Had a great dessert and Irish Coffee. My only complaint was we couldnt get a table near the band even after I mentioned i would get a dinner enteee or appetizer. Instead we enjoyed music from the bar so I skipped ordering dinner.

Made reservations for Friday night and was totally worth it. The live music was amazing and a nice add to the vibe without being too much. The staff were extremely friendly and great. The food was classic French bistro. Got the escargot, sweet bread, and beef tartare and all were excellent. They ve always got a seasonal pasta, fish and butcher cut for some variety. Highly recommend coming with a reservation to catch the live music and food. Definitely a very cute date spot.

My husband and I came here on the recommendation of our walking tour guide and were so glad we did! I had the salad niçoise and my husband had the onion soup and a small Caesar salad. All our food was delicious - do NOT come here and skip the onion soup. Its unbelievable. The bread and butter they served before the meal was also fantastic. Highly recommend!

I stumbled upon this restaurant and was impressed by the vibe. The service was a bit slow, but the food definitely made up for it. The duck confit was super tender, with a rich sauce, served on a bed of spinach, and those nuts added a nice crunch. The onion soup was also fantastic. I highly recommend checking this place out for a great dining experience!

My spouse and I came here to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary, and we couldnt have chosen a better place! They gave us a table right in front of the stage, which made the experience even more special. The live music added such a great vibe to the atmosphere, and the food was absolutely delicious. We had a fantastic time and will definitely be back!

Wonderful discovery, delicious dishes!! The squid for starter was really good and what can I say about my main course (dough of the moment) too much too succulent, linguini with pulled duck, foie gras and truffle just too yum.

Wow what a place!! I had an amazing experience at Modavie! The service was absolutely outstanding, thanks to Patrice, who went above and beyond from start to finish. He was incredibly attentive, made himself available throughout the evening, and gave us fantastic recommendations that we thoroughly enjoyed. The atmosphere was lively, especially with the live music, which added the perfect touch to an already wonderful evening. To top it all off, the food was excellent. Highly recommend Modavie for a memorable night out!
