Classic French restaurant
A wonderful traditional French restaurant with a great atmosphere in the Old Port. You will be amazed by the fantastic ambience, sparkling Christmas tree, warm lights, elegant table cloths, romantic music and 5 stars service. We chose the 7 course tasting menu without regrets. Every dish was perfect! It was pleasant to sit a table by the window having delicious meals while it was snowing outside. An unforgettable night! We will come back!
Beautiful food, beautiful atmosphere. The staff are very welcoming and all the food was prepared well. It's also in a beautiful location in the old town, so try to get a window seat if you can.
Delicious restaurant in the heart of old Montreal! They offer excellent wine selection and a great menu choice! They also offer a tasting menu so you get to experience the best dishes of the restaurant (6 service). We tried their special MTLaTable promotion which was a 4 course meal and it was great! It allowed us to discover this restaurant and we would come back again in the future to try out more dishes!
Excellent restaurant, very good atmosphere, impeccable service, very knowledgeable and attentive waiters with a great smile! Not noisy at all. Nice white tablecloths, comfortable chairs. The tables are nicely spaced out. Very nice background music. Montreal should have more restaurants like that. The food is excellent. We were 4 people and ordered different choices and they were all great! The dishes decorated with a big taste and with so many details. Rare find. I would recommend it 100%.
I was in the mood for classic French food. That was exactly what I got. Oh wow, the food was absolutely amazing. If you don't believe me, look at the photos. The interior decor was comfortable and the service was excellent. It was a Monday evening and not crowded at all. I started with a kir to whet my appetite. Then had the shrimp and scallop harmony which was tasteful and beautiful to look at. Of course I had to go with a traditional duck confit which is my go to favorite. A succulent duck leg cooked so slowly with that moist juicy interior and served with the jus. It came with a few vegetables, more for decoration than taste. For dessert I had a glass of ice perry and the calvados souffle. It was huge but so light and airy, truly a stunning creation. The golden-brown crust was crisp and when I bit into the souffle the apple brandy taste just melted on my tongue. I can't wait to visit again.
I went there twice in a row. It’s an amazing restaurant! A hidden gem if you may. The meat dishes are delicious and tender. The duck breast and the lamb rack are heavenly. I’m going for a third time tomorrow! Oh yes it’s not cheap but worth every penny! Same premium service and food as Vegas 5 star hotel restaurants but just half of the price! Worth it!
Wow, what a classy beautiful and classy restaurant! The staff are friendly and excellent in their job. The service was impeccable. We had three course meal to celebrate my birthday. I started with the soup of the day, with sweet potato, squash and carrots. It was heartwarming. Then my main platter was lobster à la vanilla. The aroma was enchanting and the taste was out of the world. We finished the dinner a classic crème brûlée. So succulent. It’s a high end restaurant therefore the price is super high. Overall worth it.
Excellent dining experience. We enjoyed many delicious courses and the wine pairing was fantastic. The service was also great, and the staff were very friendly and explained all of the dishes and wines. They even give you a sealed copy of the menu to take as a nice souvenir!
The restaurant had been redecorated since our last visit and is now more beautiful than it was on our first visit.
Incredible from start to finish. Was in Montreal for a quick weekend visit. Spouse decided on a last minute client dinner and I was lucky enough to find a spot for 4 at Bonaparte on a Friday night. The original table assigned to us was in a busy area so our guests requested a quieter location and the staff at Bonaparte couldnt have been more gracious. After just a short wait, they seated us in the back with a perfect table for 4. 3 of us opted for the tasting menu. Service from their team was impeccable and the food was amazing in all facets (presentation, flavours and textures). Our reservation was at 8PM and we ended up spending almost 4 hours there., time just flew by. The atmosphere is very relaxing. We were never rushed or hurried. Very nice experience for the entire party. This is a must do when in Montreal. We would travel back to Montreal just to experience Bonaparte again and perhaps even stay at the adjacent hotel. Merci beaucoup!!!
A wonderful establishment, with attentive servers. Thank you for this pleasant time spent. The meal was delicious, we will come back.
A little on the expensive side, but the food was delicious, especially the soufflé!
If u r looking for a very nice restaurant in the heart of Montreal, with really good food and rather affordable price, u cant find any better place than Bonaparte restaurant. But, there is a big BUT here, if u expect Michelin level, it is 4/5 compared to Michelin standards. I ordered 4 different meals there. 1st their twisted French onion. Its stock was the best that it could be, showcases the high quality of the restaurant. The 2nd item that I ordered was their best item on the menu: crem brule with Foei gras, it might seem weird but its just genius. Try it and u will find happiness at 1st bite. My main course was confit leg of duck, which had way to be perfect. Nothing special about that, quite pricey, perfect presentation like painting with unseasoned vegetables as side dish. It was good, but not so good. The dessert was lime pie, it was 9/10, in my pallet, needed more lime aroma. In general: definitely worth trying. Plus, the manager of this restaurant, was the most polite person that I haver spoken to in whole Canada. He was so good at his job.
The best fine dine experience in montreal. A must visit restaurant for all the visitors . The food, cocktails, dessert everything was so on point. Although the food is on a very higher end, the total bill was more than $300 but it was so worth it. 10/10 experience.
Really good food and ambiance. Wait staff extremely attentive.
Absolutely perfect meal! Split pea soup, green salad and beef bourguignon. The soup was was velvety and creamy, the salad was perfectly chopped, crisp and fresh. And then the beef bourguignon. Small beef medallions over a creamy savory sauce ALL over wonderfully cooked vegetables and spheres of potato purée. Impeccable service. I love this restaurant!
Was there on the day I got married and they really helped make it even more special. Out of this world food and excellent service...and surprisingly wallet friendly compared to the overall quality. This ones going to be a regular
Pleasant service. The meal was quite disappointing overall, the plates were quite bland and empty. The veal dish has 3 microscopic pieces of green beans on the side. However, the ravioli were good. The blackcurrant kir lacked blackcurrant. I wont go back, not worth the price.
A great meal at a great restaurant! The service was friendly and efficient. Definitely a restaurant to try when in Montreal!
We had a great time at Bonaparte and would definitely visit again! We came for the four course Montreal à Table menu, which was excellent. I tried the pumpkin soup, duck confit, beef cheeks, and chocolate cake. Each dish was well-presented and tasty. The only dish I probably wouldn t order again is the beef cheeks, which I thought was good but not great compared to the others. On the flip side, I m still thinking about the duck confit 24 hours later. I also got the wine pairing for each course, which was a little ambitious seeing as they were full sized glasses. I was told that the normal menu comes with half-servings though. Our sommelier was knowledgeable and took the time to explain each glass. It made for a very enjoyable experience. Service was 4 stars. It took about 15 minutes for us to get seated and for someone to take our order, though I ll write that off as it being a busy Friday evening. After ordering though, each course and wine pairing came out at a smooth and enjoyable pace. Overall a great experience. I would highly recommend visiting if the menu suits your tastes.
Good food but inattentive service
Had dinner with friends for our first try in this restaurant, tried the MTL à table menu($80 per person)plus a glass of wine. Here s my opinion for your reference: -Environment: it s ok, nothing too fancy or too bad, overall ambiance is good; -Food taste: in all four courses, only the Phyllo wrapped rabbit confit was delicious, the rest were not up to high-end restaurant standard at all. Ask anyone who studies cuisine or have been to good restaurants: this display(main course) is a disaster! And the taste frankly I think some supermarket cooked food would taste better than this. Veal flank was too chewy, beef tastes bloody, and the chicken breasts were hard and dry as rock. -Service: they re attentive, appreciate their effort in pouring water or placing utensils for us, but it d be safer if they tell us before handing the water over shoulders. -Hygiene: I did not like the fact that they re cutting bread in the hallway s counter, without any disinfectant or gloves, they just touch the bread like that after touching dishes and pos machine and god knows where also I saw a waiter coughed in his sleeve and then continue cutting the bread like it s ok as long as his cough wasn t towards the bread Overall I DO NOT recommend this restaurant, as their price does not match with their food quality and taste. Time to hire new chefs if this is your standard for $100+ meals.
By far the best place I ve ever eaten. It s been two years since my husband and I went for our anniversary and I since dream about this restaurant. The duck with maple syrup is amazing. The napoleon rivals that of any French restaurant. I will count down the days which I can come back. Please never change!
Spectacular service and experience. Delicious hidden gem.
The server was nice, the food was alright but waiting over an hour and a half between each service for the tasting menu made no sense.
The server was great. The speed of the food was very slow. Meal quality was great and they have an excellent wine selection. The duck and rabbit were both lovely. Again just a long wait between courses.
Lovely hotel in superb location. Its what youre looking for when seeking an Old Montreal experience. Its true that the bed is firm but we like that and the pillows were perfect. The sheets felt luxurious. It can get noisy on Saturday night and the towels could be better. Parking was a breeze next door and cost about 75$ for two nights. All in all, will be back!
Le Bonaparte is an empire-style restaurant from the Napoleonic era. We were in the Empress room with its beautiful fireplace and large windows overlooking the street. An excellent 4-course dinner. Warm atmosphere. And what can we say about the service, Juliette and company pampered us very much. Thanks to MTL à table for introducing us to this restaurant.
Beef Tartare is amazing!!!!
We had dinner at the Bonaparte restaurant and is was great. The maître D very cheerfully escorted us to our table. Our waitress Juliette(?) was excellent. I couldn t commend the wait staff more. They were all very attentive. The food was fabulous. I had the shrimp and scallop appetizer. My entree was the cod special and it was out of this world. My had lobster and loved it. I couldn t recommend this restaurant more,
Good experience, I expected more for the price. Filet mignon was cold. I don t recommend the onion soup, flavourless with burned taste. Ravioli were the best on the menu. Food : 4/5 |
Great food and service.
My birthday dinner was perfect. Nice portions and delicious food
Incredible meal, service and time. We did the tasting menu with wine pairings. Our server, Guillo (sp?) could not have been more professional, knowledgeable and pleasant. The best of the courses was: Rabbit, Ravioli and the Duck. Just a really great time and meal!
Very professional, classy staff and restaurant with high quality and delicious dishes. I am very impressed with the services and food quality. 100% recommend .
Tasting menu was fantastic. Service was attentive and helpful. The only creme brulee Ive ever liked. It excellent. An exceptional dining experience. In a great part of Montréal also.
.....everything was right, the quality of the food was very good, the staff and the service. When I asked for a good restaurant at reasonable prices in Montreal, it was Bonaparte
Bonaparte was excellent. The food is excellent, the wait staff are tremendous and the restaurant is cute with an old school vibe. Highly recommend this restaurant!
An amazing gem in heart of Old Montreal. The food was absolutely delicious. Service was exquisite. Ambiance fabulous. Very charming and old world, making you feel like you are in Europe, with a beautiful view of the city. Highly recommended.
Excellent French cuisine in Montreal. We had a stunning meal, creative and prepared to perfection. The presentation was a visual treat and the flavors were magnificent! Our server was attentive and friendly. All our party left satisfied.
I had the pleasure of being invited by my son and his wife to Bonaparte to celebrate my birthday. It was with joy that we were welcomed by Mr. George in an atmosphere that was both dynamic and harmonious. We have the feeling of being expected! Simons professional and warm service, his smile and his suggestions were greatly appreciated. Finally, the cuisine is of a very high level and the chef offers a varied and very tasty menu. Absolutely worth trying are the mushroom ravioli and the Grand Marnier soufflé, a delight for the taste buds. Thank you all for this magical evening and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
Lovely food with strong drinks, classic décor and attentive wait staff. The filet mignon wouldve been better marinated, and the portions are on the smaller side. That said, the fricassée mushrooms were delicious, and the lobster with vanilla was amazing after salt had been added Parking: Metered.
Really positive experience at the Bonaparte restaurant! We went there for my parents wedding anniversary and celebrated with the tasting menu with matching wines, approx. 194 per person. Everything was really delicious, especially the smoked salmon and the filet mignon. The wines paired perfectly with the dishes (the only flaw perhaps was a Quebec wine that we didnt like very much). Very kind and attentive waiter, among other things, once he understood that we were Italian he immediately explained everything to us in the language. Great experience!
Very nice restaurant, however I did have higher expectations. Our waiter wasn t the friendliest which was a bit unexpected, and the food was good, but didn t blow us away. I had the rack of lamb, which was cooked to perfection, but lacked in flavor.
Stumbled in here on a rainy night and got a table for 2 without a reservation. What a treat! Fantastic service from George, our waiter. Food and wine were excellent, we really enjoyed the wild game terrine. - and if you go here be sure to have the Calvados Soufflé for dessert.
Quite disappointed with my experience. Already, it should not be possible to make reservations at the bar. The ambiance is completely different in the dining room unlike other restaurants where the ambiance remains the same. Even though the service was friendly, we had ice cubes on us several times. As for the dishes. The raviolis were really good as well as the cocktail. On the other hand, I found that the plate was a little empty. In short, I dont think Ill go back there given the very poor value for money.
Good but not exceptional for my taste. Warm service and chic atmosphere
Bonaparte is kind of like the Disney Land version of a French restaurant, meant for tourists only. It s not horrible, but also not worth a second visit.
A great option in the Old Port of Montreal
Awesome restaurant, great ambiance and top notch service. If you like to taste authentic French cuisine in old Montreal this is an essential spot to visit.
Phenomenal attention to service and truly 5 star experience. Wide variety of dishes with a unique twist. Highly recommend the duck breast with blueberries & maple syrup, as well as the rabit confit phyllo.
Wow. Quiet traditional venue with high quality cuts of steak and lamb. Food couldnt have be better. Apple pie dessert made to order was worth the wait.
To start, I m a bit of a food snob living in Manhattan. Nevertheless, a few basics. I was hankering for beef tartare and narrowed my choices to Bonaparte or Butterfly. I sat at the bar for dinner at Bonaparte. This is a pretty high end, swanky restaurant with white table cloths so I m expecting first class service. First issue, I ordered dinner at the bar and the bartender never asked or brought me water. This should be automatic once anyone sits. I had to ask for water ten minutes in. No biggie?! Ordered beef tartare with fries. The quality of beef was fresh and top grade but under seasoned and the fries were soggy. Disappointing. I guess I ll try the beef tartare at Butterfly next time. Au Revoir
Excellent French restaurant, duck breast is recommended, good wines, good beers, excellent service
Get the tasting menu!
The food was amazing, but the staff were extremely two-faced. They would be super polite, speaking English to me when checking up on me, but then the instant they finished doing so, the staff would all huddle and make fun of me in french, thinking I couldnt hear/understand them, which actually isnt true, as I understand French, I just cant speak it to the same level as they could: they made fun of the way I talked, the way I ate, the way I held my fork, the way I was dressed, my personality, and more, which felt very hurtful and attackative, to the point, where I felt like I was in an extremely uncomfortable and unsafe environment and had to ask for the bill early so that I could leave as soon as I finished my meal. And there was absolutely no reason for this, I was a very high paying customer, ordering a full course meal valuing $180 including my drink, and I was very polite to them at first, so they had no business being that rude. If you are an English native speaker, even if you speak a form of French, if it is not superfluent, I reccomend going elsewhere, as the staff here are incredibly hurtful despite their pretentious cheery demeanor, and I can guarantee that I will not be returning in the foreseeable future.
Great ambience, super food. Julia did great service Vegetarian options: Soup and tofu with vegetables Food : 5/5 |
Service is nice, but a little slow. Not a problem if you wanna drink and just chill. Food is very good. Steak tartare is very nicely done, as is the duck breast. Plating is pretty, more like an artwork. Good atmosphere too. A good place for some fine French cuisine.
I had the following courses/drinks: a virgin ginger mojito, a lobster bisque, and a beef bourguignonne. First and foremost, the bread was cold, soft, and practically inedible. The butter was incredibly salty, as well. Then, I was really looking forward to the bisque and I was disappointed when I found that it was bland, and the only flavors I was getting from it tasted like it was from a can. Same applies to the beef bourguignonne, unfortunately; tasted like an ordinary beef stew from a can or a frozen meal that you would buy from a grocery store or something. Not worth the high price for everything; would not recommend. Service was mediocre.
Amazing... From beginning to end.
Excellent food, attention and an exquisite atmosphere.
My friends and I went to dinner at the Bonaparte restaurant for my birthday! As soon as we returned, the atmosphere and chic decor of the hotel immediately made a good impression on us! Mathieu, our server, demonstrated impeccable service and incredible kindness! Before starting, we were provided with hot towels soaked in essential oils to disinfect our hands. Then, Mathieu shared his personal suggestions with us while explaining the main components of his favorite dishes! As it was my birthday, I had the right to a sparkle candle on my dessert :) (nice touch) We ordered the mushroom ravioli, the beef tartare and the scallop and shrimp emulsion as starters and everything was delicious! I recommend choosing the ravioli if you want a starter to share. Im removing one star because the main dishes we chose: lamb shank and duck were a bit ordinary. For desserts, we ordered apple pie, cheesecake and my friend wanted a fruit salad and although it was not on the menu, Mathieu was able to accommodate her request! Our favorite was definitely the apple pie :) Anyway! I will definitely come back to try other dishes on the menu and I will remember a memorable and luxurious experience at the Bonaparte restaurant, especially thanks to Mathieus service and the quality of the dishes! (
Very interesting tasting menu with a judicious wine pairing... but unfortunately, two services disappointed me: their mushroom ravioli (undercooked and tasteless pasta with a serious lack of mushroom stuffing) and their rack of lamb very very thin requested medium-rare... but received blue. The atmosphere and especially the service are at the top of a Michelin star.
I highly recommend it, wonderful experience
Six of us dined at Bonaparte. Our most enjoyable dinner in Montreal. The food was superb, the service by Jilliett - excellent, the ambience - very pleasant. Must finish your meal with the Grande Marnier souffle... very few restaurant even offer it !
Atmosphere... The resto is inside hotel Bonaparte. The set up is nice with proper table cloth, wine glasses, cloth napkin but average quality cutlery. The wine glasses could be of better quality especially when the wine list is quite good though not exhaustive. This resto is suitable for business discussion or client entertainment. Service... Our waitress is knowledgeable and attentive. Unfortunately, the resto does not have a sommelier (given its wine list) so our waitress tried her best to double up but it shows her lack of knowledge and experience in that field. Food... In general good, unfortunately for me, my lamb shank was dry and kind of burnt, making it a kind of leathery skin on the outside. They did offer to change it and so I ordered a filet mignon as it was quick to cook since my family members are almost finished with their main course. All in, this resto would merit a 3.5 stars over 5
This is a very special place!! I cant think of a better way to spend our last night in Montreal. The atmosphere, food, and service were all extremely elevated! I couldnt have asked for a better experience from start to finish. Dont skip the souffle for dessert!
Nice place. Off the tourist walking track.
Very romantic spot with absolutely amazing food that is immaculately prepared and served. We loved it so much we went there the second time the next day to have a desert. Highly recommend making a reservation. Food
Absolutely delicious food and elegant atmosphere
A quiet place with wonderful service. Quick food and a nice wine and cocktail selection.
Fabulous meal. Unforgettable cocktails.
A 10 out of 10 experience, overall this place is a must if you are in Montreal. The drinks were excellent too.
Underwhelming. Average, subpar, forgetful meal. Martin was terrible.......ne mange pas là-bas
Cute little restaurant with excellent service. The food was really good, but it was a little pricey for what it was. If you have the budget and you re in the Old Port it s worth a visit.
We had an amazing dining experience staring from excellent food and delightful interior, to delicious and well prepared food. We had mushroom ravioli and foier grass for starters. Followed with fillet mignon and duck breast, both were really good, but the duck breast definitely stood out. The only thing - we were slightly disappointed in desserts, the profiterole was good, but simple - some chocolate and vanilla ice cream - we were expecting something more. Soufflé with orange - had too alcoholy taste. But, overall I want to highlight amazing service and super b atmosphere
Their Google review rating is accurate. Success is not an accident here. Great food, well-presented dishes, friendly and professional staff, and a great atmosphere.
A must-have!! Unfortunately I didnt think to take a photo of my plates, but nothing could have matched the flavors tasted! The servers are super friendly! I recommend
Great cuisine and very relaxing dinner atmosphere. Service was excellent
Great atmosphere. Delicious food
We always have a good time dining at Bonaparte! Food and service were top notch! The servers are extremely friendly and attentive! We were a group of 7 this time, we ordered different dishes and everything was delicious!! The seared foie gras with crème brûlée were so flavourful, it melted in my mouth! The mushroom ravioli with truffle were fresh and creamy! The pan seared scallops were cooked perfectly, the tastes blended so well with the oyster mushrooms! The duck, the steak and the rack of lamb were also cooked to perfection! I loved my dessert, soufflé with grand marnier, every bite is heaven!! We will definitely come back again and again!
Service and atmosphere were good, as was the cocktail. Food and wine-by-the-glass were extremely average. This is not fine dining.. bit of a tourist trap, really.
Best ravioli I ve ever had in my life. Great service too
Napoleon cake tastes very good
We dine here every time we visit Montreal. Always a great experience
We are long-time customers. It is always a most enjoyable dining experience, enhanced by warm yet classy service, whether for personal or corporate meetings. Vegetarian options: Options are available. Parking: 2 paid parking lots nearby.
We celebrated our wedding anniversary in this beautiful restaurant and the experience was memorable. The food is delicious, the service is more than 5 stars because the advice on food and wine is wonderful! Excellent choice for special occasions. We even got a surprise cupcake and birthday present from the restaurant! Thank you so much! Dietary restrictions: They have special dishes and considerations for those who have a dairy intolerance.
Wow! What a gem. The staff was amazing! The facilities were very comfortable. We loved being served prosecco on our check-in. We also loved the continental breakfast that was in a basket outside our door the next morning. It is in a wonderful location in Old Montreal. We were right near Notre Dame Cathedral. The restaurant was nothing short of a dream! We found the parking in the area gave us easy access to the hotel
The lobster is worth every penny. Great staff
Everything excellent, wonderful service and delicious food. Invited to return to try other things on the menu.
Very nice room, the staff is helpful, attentive without being excessive. The menu is good but the dessert menu (they are all delicious) deserves to be modified in order to bring a little something new, because it has been a long time since it has been changed unlike the main course and starter menu.
Bad
Excellent service and food! THANKS!
One of the best French cuisine restaurants Ive ever been.
Surprisingly loud inside. Food was delicious, everyone enjoyed their meal. Food
Great food and excellent wine list.
Excellent meal and service.
My wife a I both said it was the best French restaurant we ve been in.
Wonderful in every way!!
Mythical restaurant in old Montreal A must-have The food, the service, the manager Martin, a passionate person who takes you on a journey through the history of the establishment for 40 years.
Very disappointing!
Stunning place, beautiful decor, good service and exquisite food. I recommend it!
We had lunch delivto our meeting room. Service was beyond excellent but the food was really below standard bread was dry and cold, hard to bite. Food
Excellent food
Excellent restaurant. The food is excellent. A+ service from the maître dhôtel, waiter at the buzboy. The wine was very good but the pairings could have been better. It seems that the agreement was made with the secondary aromas ex. Aromatics in the sauce instead of primary e.g. Medium-rare lamb. The tasting menu is very generous, we shared it and my partner had a price between and the main course and it was a little too much. Were going to go back there. A year later. Still very satisfied, I would say the food and wine pairings were better this time. Perfect for special occasions.
Fantastic restaurant. The staff were kind and professional and spoke both French and English. The food was delicious. We heard from a friend that their duck is delicious, and can confirm. Would highly recommend the duck confit. The roasted duck breast was also good, but the confit was the hands-down winner. Their cocktails were great, as were the desserts. Must get the creme brulee.
Overall, the food is very standard and quality or even maybe lower than regular restaurant and not worth the price. 1. Lobster bisque: standard soup. Not bad but not good. 2. Duck foie gras: the combination of the ingredient does not help to enhance the flavour. The duck foie gras instead of regular foie gras can tell you they try to cheap out. 3. Smoke salmon: random ingredient combination. Basically pieces of salmon with some vegetable. 4. Shrimp and scollop: wonderful shrimp taste, but a bit over cooked scollop. I think their plate is way hot for this dish. The seafood fish does not need this. 5. Rabbit conflict: prob one of the best one. Like the pastry texture. But again, same salad on the side. 6. Sober: like this part of the menu. Nevertheless, wish the sparking wine is actually a bit more fizz. It would bring up the taste more. 7. Lamb rack: horrible. The lamb quality is ordinary. The potato is not cooked thorough. All the vegetable have nothing to do with lamb flavour. The sauce is super thick, like syrup as shown in the last picture. 8. Filet mignon: initially ordered medium rare, but turns out to be medium to well done. We asked for the redone. The second piece is amazing. The best dish of the night. The meat is soft and tender, well balenced favor. Again, uncooked potato. 9. Desert: the desert make me feel like this restaurant wants to give quantity than quality. Every single one taste like something u can get from random grocery shop. I couldn t finish any of the three. 10. Service: the waitress was nice. But I think the management was not good. We sit down for 10 mins without anyone coming up to us or offer water. 11. Taste menu: no creation at all. That s maybe the reason why their service do not even need to introduce or explain the dish ar all. It is my first time ever having a tasting menu and can visually see the simple combination of the ingredient which does not require explanation. 12. Nice location for the restaurant, I guess some fees goes to the location.
Bonapartes location in the old port centre is part and parcel to the old-world charm. Inside, the restaurant is well-appointed and elegant. Music softly complimented the ambiance. Our food was most delicious: Lobster bisque and onion for starters; entrees included the Boeuf à la bourguignonne (Beef bourguignonne) & Suprême de volaille au brie du Québec fondant, crème de sauge (chicken with brie and sage) with Creme Brule and Napoleon for our desserts. The staff was appropriately attentive, proper, and friendly. Overall, it was a memorable dining experience!
Excellent service, professional staff. On the other hand, the food leaves something to be desired for the price paid (we took the tasting menu).
If you want high quality and authentic French cuisine, Bonaparte is the place for you! Everything about Bonaparte is 5 star. The staff, the atmosphere and the food exceeded my expectations. We had the foie gras with creme brulee as an appetizer. I have never had foie gras with creme brulee and I was in for a very pleasant and delicious surprise! Our main entrees were the beef tartare and the truffle oil scallops. The cost is a bit pricey but definitely worth every single dollar. I would go back here and highly recommend Bonaparte to anyone who want delicious French food!
Sat at the bar and had a superb meal. Great service from start to finish and our plates were perfectly prepared. The Magret de Canard and Jarret dAgneau were amazing.
Sofiane and Ami excellent service!!
Indulging in the Lamb Chops at Restaurant Bonaparte - A Taste of Timeless Excellence As I recently dined at Restaurant Bonaparte, I couldnt resist trying their renowned lamb chops, and I must say, it was an experience beyond compare. Since 1983, Restaurant Bonaparte has been celebrated for its exceptional French cuisine, and their lamb chops certainly lived up to the reputation. Cooked to perfection, each bite was a symphony of flavors and textures that danced on my palate. The tender meat, infused with delicate herbs and spices, melted in my mouth, leaving me craving more with every bite.
My wife and I recently had the absolute pleasure of visiting this restaurant recently. We were delighted the moment we walked in, to the moment she had her salad and Beef bourguignonne, and I had my Rabbit confit and roasted Duck breast. The desserts as well are also splendid. It goes without saying that when we came to beautiful Montreal to treat our palettes and rest, the experience we enjoyed, as well as the attentive service and atmosphere, was most definitely our highlight. They seem very consistent here and that, I feel, is what sets examples.
Gorgeous atmosphere and decoración. Good service. I had an excelente house prosecco to drink, and only one dish: magret de canard roti with vegetable crudités. The meat was not bad, not very tasty. The price outrageously expensive, 120 CAD after taxes and tip, about 84 EUR, which buys you an outstanding duck dinner in Toulouse.
Always a special dining experience! Our go to in Montreal!
Excellent!
A magnificent experience to relive! The apple pie and ravioli are a must try!!! The service is superb! Thank you for everything!
Very nice private room -
Ambiance, Food, Drinks and Service top the chart in French Cuisine. George the Host, Simon, our server, and Iliya made our dining experience so amazing. Thank you
Our experience was wonderful. The food was delicious and beautifully plated. Our waiter, Simon, was attentive yet discreet; we were on a timeline and he ensured we left on time. The decor was soothing and pleasant. The Grand Marnier soufflé was magnifique!
Our experience at Bonapart Restaurant on Valentines Day was truly unforgettable. The chef curated a delightful menu that left our taste buds enchanted. The impeccable selection of wines complemented each dish perfectly. The staff, with their attentive and timely service, added an extra layer of charm to the evening. A special nod to the chef for crafting such culinary delights and to the waitstaff for their professionalism. The thoughtful gesture of presenting roses to all the ladies at the end of the dinner undoubtedly left a sweet lingering memory. Highly recommend Bonapart for a delightful dining experience.
Be aware, is this a restaurant for old people. If you enjoy this kinda of vibe and excellent small food this is your place. Expect to expense 279-330 CAD per person Parking: Parking 30 CAD, doesn t matter the time.
Food and service cannot be recommended plus there is racism.
Great spot for dinner. The view into the lit up streets at night feels like you re in Europe. I did get a bit fat shamed(?) but I don t blame the waitress since I ordered three appetizers haha. The rabbit confit was fairly good but a bit bland without the red wine sauce. The mushroom ravioli was slightly under seasoned. The veal with mushrooms was amazing!! They offer to check your coat.
Went on Christmas Eve with special menu. Food was wonderful, so was service.
It s a nice restaurant in the heart of Old Montreal, however food is extremely disappointing and tasteless. For the price, you can definitely do better somewhere else in the area. Typical old Montreal tourist trap place.
Mushroom ravioli! Forest veal chop! And the Napoleon for dessert. A lovely gourmet evening with George s wise advice. Worth a detour.
I kicked off my culinary journey with the Beef Bourguignonne, which was cooked to perfection tender, flavorful, and beautifully complemented by the rich wine sauce. The Lobster Bisque enhanced with ginger provided a delightful twist to the classic soup, surprising my taste buds in the best way possible. A standout dish of the evening was the Mushroom Raviolis Perfumed with Fresh Sage Sauce. The pasta was expertly cooked, and the sage sauce perfectly highlighted the earthy flavors of the mushrooms, making it a true highlight of the meal. To cap off this exceptional dining experience, I savored the Chocolate Chips Soufflé for dessert, enjoying its light and fluffy texture, while the chocolate chips added a delightful crunch.
One of the best restaurants I have visited in the world so far. Food is really good and amazed with the taste and service of the staff. Most visit and try tasting menu where you can have best taste and really good food made with perfection !!
Exceptional in every way! We did the tasting menu with wine pairing and added on soufflés for dessert. Every course was fabulous, perfectly sized, excellent timing between courses, paired perfectly with delicious wines. George, was exceptional at meeting our every request. Can t thank you enough for an incredibly delicious and memorable evening!
Dinner on December 31. Very nice restaurant, beautiful layout in Old Montreal. Very good meal, especially the filet mignon. Unequal food/wine pairing. Relatively deficient sommelier. Service not very personalized, but very efficient. Overall, at $225/person + taxes + service, we expect a good tick more.
We had a good time here, the food was very good, we went for the Degésitation six course tasting menu. Delicious. Great wine good atmosphere and service. Would go back. Expensive but worth it.
Great service and delicious food.
Decent food but nothing more. Clearly not worth the price. I liked the bellows which came out better than the dishes all the same. Courteous service, thank you to the waiter for letting me taste their non-alcoholic red wine before serving it to me, suspecting that I wouldnt like it.
I ate very well in this restaurant in a beautiful setting with an exemplary wine merchant.
Best food we had during our Montreal visit! The wine selections are superb!
It was a wonderful experience! No wonder it is the best restaurant in Montréal. I loved almost everything. Dress something nice, you will feel like a King/Queen. It took us about 1hr and 40mins to complete the tasting menu. First of all, the atmosphere was beautiful. The music, the walls, the tables, the menu, and the plating went very well together. The Christmas tree was beautifully decorated with dried cirtus. I had to take pictures up close. Servers were very professional and attentive. It was a busy night, but they all had a smile on their face and looked very happy working there. Clumsy me, I dropped the butter knife as soon as I got to my seat. I was so embarrassed, but the servers replaced it right away without us asking or getting their attention. Now, the food, we tried the tasting menu, and it was an awesome choice. My husband and I ordered different things and shared them. Salad and lobster bisque - both were great choices; Salmon was no doubt, Duck Foie Gras Crème Brûlée was not for my taste, but I was glad that I tried it; mushroom ravioli was so wonderful, rabbit confit was not my style but again, l loved that I tried it; pear sorbet cleansed my pallet well (but was too boozy for me); roasted duck was heavenly and was the highlight of my meal (got it medium) and lamb was also heavenly (medium as well); tea (gave me a whole pot, loved it) & coffee; cheese option was really great and Pastry was is the only plate I couldnt finish. We didnt take the wine pairing option. We ordered drinks separately. Overall we were very satisfied. Highly recommend to try.
Beautiful experience! From the moment you walk in and they take your jacket and hand you a warm towel you are treated like family. The food is delicious and the staff was very friendly. Would recommend the tasting menu for anyone who is looking to try a few of their menu items.
Exquisite French restaurant with good service. Very good Rossini and daily catch.
Very nice dining experience for my family. The atmosphere and design of the restaurant were great. I really recommend the lobster salad and the roasted duck breast. The lobster was cooked to perfection paired with a delicious maple syrup dressing. The duck breast was cooked to a perfect doneness, was juicy, had a crispy skin, and was paired with a flavorful maple dressing. Our waitress Sheila was also very friendly, knowledgeable, and added to the experience.
Five star for sure from the drink list to the French dishes and for the very professional friendly staff I ordered rainbow trout , creamy crispy outside and juicy, sweet meat inside. Highly recommend
To date, the best dining experience my wife and I have been to! Weve eaten in many restaurants around the world and this is our favorite so far. Awesome service, food, and ambiance.
Incredible service with paying attention to details and awesome food!
Christmas Eve meal, food and wine pairing. It was really excellent. There were 3 of us and we all had different dishes offered on the special Christmas menu. All were very well presented, elegant and tasty. The waitress was very very professional when it came to explaining the wines, very smiling and friendly. We loved it. In addition, the restaurant is warm with a beautiful fireplace.
An elegant, traditionally-french, high-class atmosphere, with top-notch food to match. The service was excellent, and they even went the extra mile to accomodate a special request to help mark a personal occassion (my warmest thanks to the staff for that). A truly excellent dining experience.
This restaurant is something special! First, it is in a beautiful setting with lovely lighting. George our waiter extraordinaire, made our whole evening delightful. Professional and knowledgable he helped on suggestions in the specials and truly seemed to care about our dining experience. He has such joy in his being!! Maxime, the bartender, delivered an excellent Sarah to pair with my veal. And Agile was attentive to clear our plates at just the right moment, never being intrusive or rushing us. The entire staff at this restaurant (and hotel) is beyond wonderful. The best of the best. They appear to truly enjoy their work and their customers. Dont hesitate a moment to come and have a splendid dinner, wonderful wine, super soufflé and mostly an appreciation for a staff that genuinely enjoys what they do.
Nice atmosphere. Food was below average. Scallop(s?) entree had 1, maybe 2, scallops cut up to make it seem like more. It wasnt. Lobster bisque was thin. They cheaped out. Did we offend the waiter? Not sure, but we got Paris snoot without the food. $100 each, and went home hungry. Dare I say tourist trap?
Good welcome, but value for money, expensive. The air conditioning was cold, we wont go back
Exceptional. Whether it is the cuisine or the room service, it is an experience not to be missed due to the quality, originality and professionalism of the service.
Classic French menu. We had both duck breast and duck confit. Waiter suggested great wines.
What a great dinner. Our waiter Fredrick was outstanding. Charming, had great recommendations, and made us feel like we were in France but didnt have to speak the language. Outstanding.
Im surprised I forgot to leave a review right after.. but better late than never. Everything about this restaurant was impeccable from the service to the food they served. Kinda felt like I shouldve dressed up a bit instead of my typical casual wear. Splurge for the tasting menu if you can.. If youre going with a la carte, dont miss out on their duck! It was !
Impeccable service. Food of high quality and adequate quantity. Very good wine. Expensive restaurant but worth it.
Reservation at 8pm, seated by 8.15pm. Still sitting at the table at 8.30pm without a hello/bonjour or even a glass of water. Wednesday night. Doesnt matter what the food is like if no one serves you. Napoleon would raze this place.
Went here for my wifes birthday while on a trip to Montreal. Cest magnifique! Everything was...completely and utterly perfect. From the cocktails (an excellent Vieux Carre for me) to the tasting menu (the rabbit in the phyllo was my favorite) -- all amazing. Of note, they surprised my wife in the tasting menu - on the dessert plate it came out with a sparkler in it. The entire restaurant could not take their eyes off of it. It was spectacular!!!!
Go for: a legitimate fine-dining experience, from start to finish. Avoid if: youre not sure which piece of silverware to use first. Something surprising: the number of different servers that waited the table throughout the meal. Reservation needed? Yes, definitely Overall Experience: Strong 4/5. It was an extremely busy spot and we had to wait despite having a reservation, but the staff was incredibly professional and the food was what youd expect from a high-end French restaurant. You would be wise to order the Profitérole for dessert. Value for Price: 4 Sanitation: 5 Food Quality: 5 Menu Precision: 4 Service Quality: 5 Timing: 3 Decor: 4 Access: 4 5 among the best 4 strong 3 not too bad 2 mediocre 1 never again
Great food and ambiance
4.5/5 Great ambience and vibe. The avg age of guests there is high, meaning it s a consistent and authentic restaurant. The interior gives some French castle vibe. Love it. The service was good except that our server was covering half the tables there by himself. He was nice but too occupied with other guests. Food was great. Appetizers were better than the mains. Great seafood, foie gras, lobster salad and duck breast. Beef bourguignon and lamb shank was alright. P.s. their wine list was impressive
(In French below) I rarely say this but mark my words, wish I could rate more than 5 stars on every category for this place. The staff is incredible from the very moment you step foot inside. The food was delicious and incredibly reasonably priced for the luxurious service and experience received. From the ambiance to the decor, the food, the staff, the cocktails, if you are looking for a fine dining experience without making your wallet cry, do yourself a favor and give this place a try, I will be back and next time try the hotel iteself as well. Vegetarian options: Great vegetarian options as well, my girlfriend absolutely loved everything she had. Try the ravioli.
Magnificent experience! From starter to dessert including cocktails and choice wine recommendations! A big congratulations to the team who made us feel like princes. I highly recommend the profiterole with homemade cabbage. A delight!!
I saw so many positive reviews we decided to celebrate our wedding anniversary at the Restaurant Bonaparte. It was a a disaster. Our first server did not introduce himself so I can t tell you his name. We were seated promptly by the maitre de (Matthew) and it went down hill quickly. We ordered salads and also our entrées. We waited and we waited and we waited some more. The server glanced at our table and seemed to notice we had not been served, but he did not speak to us. After almost one hour, my friend went to the maitre de. He came to our table and said he would check on our meal. The server had never put the order in! We talked about leaving but unfortunately decided to stay. Salads were served by a different server and then the very uninteresting entrées were served. We were comped for our wine and a dessert. Even if the entire meal had been comped, nothing could make up for the disastrous evening. Terrible service and mediocre food. Fortunately, we had fabulous dinners and excellent service at Gibby s and Marcella s.
we were lucky to get reservations on two evenings and the food and service were excellent. Wonderful flavors and accompaniments to the dishes. A very wide variety of meat, fish, and game with excellent wines by the glass. On the second evening, the manager sat us at a beautiful window seat so we could see Montreal at night. Highly recommended! Dietary restrictions: the staff was so amenable about some substitutions for food allergies
Consistent, reliable, gustatory excellence in the heart of Old Montreal. Here, you will see guests who know their food. And you will see an excellent functioning team of professionals attending to their guests every need at exactly the right time. There are all levels of seniority and experience at work here, on the restaurant floor, and most definitely in the kitchen where they produce their artwork. Whats good you ask? Everything. Try the tasting menu. And then try it again. Its a different experience every time, with each bearing only one thing in common - excellent execution, for which I am personally very grateful.
We did the tasting menu, though Id describe it more as a prix fixe menu. The food overall was good, but not supurb. The ginger lobster bisque did not have much lobster and I didnt taste any ginger. I also wasnt a huge fan that the seafood options were flavored with vanilla. But our waitress was great and had an awesome bowtie. The blueberry nonalcoholic drink was very tasty, sweet.
We had a wonderful evening, everything was delicious from the starter to the dessert. A+ for the poultry supreme with melted brie. The service was also impeccable and the atmosphere calm and warm.
Excellent service, very good food!
MTL table event, Nice food and service, will come back
Amazing... Continually innovative... Great Food
We had the tasting menu with wine pairings for $192 CA each. The meal was a major disappointment. The lobster bisque with ginger tasted like burned lobster carcass. My filet was gristly and tough. The accompanying wines were pedestrian at best; I cant imagine that any of the bottles (of which we had a small pour) cost more than $25.
The space is lovely, the service is excellent and the food is good. I ordered an orange carrot soup (soup of the day) which was very nice and the lamb shank. I was a little disappointed with the lamb shank as it was overcooked--something you dont expect in a restaurant of this standing. Also, I personally prefer Quebec (local) lamb vs New Zealand lamb, but I believe I was served the latter. My experience with lamb has always been that New Zealand has the stronger, game-y taste, which I am personally not found of. Overall, a great experience, but not an experience you cant find elsewhere in Montreal, for less $$.
This restaurant perfectly embodies the essence of Old Port: good looks, no substance. We got the tasting menu. The appetizers were interesting but nonetheless disappointing. For example the foie gras crème brûlée was an interesting concept, but didnt deliver. The savouriness did not pair well with the pear compote. The lobster bisque was thoroughly disappointing. It was grainy and lacked any flavor other than the stench of a fish market. There was little, if any, lobster in it. For a meal of this price, its a slap in the face. The entrées were similarly lackluster... by the time they came. The lamb stew was decent, but the sauce had coagulated. It wasnt memorable, and not something I recommend spending money on. The poisson du jour was average, but the sides it came with were scarce and unimaginative. Finally the desserts were good, but nothing special. All in all, I cannot recommend spending money at this restaurant. Youre far better off going somewhere outside of Old Port.
Sadly we were highly disappointed in this restaurant especially after reading so many wonderful reviews. The food was not well prepared and completely lacking in flavor. I feel like the focus was more on the tasting menu rather than the standard menu. The service was extremely slow but ultimately our waitress was sweet. It is a beautiful building in old Montreal, so the atmosphere was great. There are far better options with a beautiful atmosphere for half the price.
My favorite restaurant in Montreal. Exceptional, warm and attentive service. Perfect dishes, excellent desserts and a beautiful wine cellar. It s a little gem that I recommend for an occasion, or for a romantic dinner. Thank you again for this beautiful moment.
During our most recent visit, the portions were just incredibly small!! - Pate was cut thin like ham. Seafood entre ($26) offered 1 mid-size scallop and 2 shrimp!! Filet mignon at $59 was really small! - We love the place and staff but this is probably our last visit.
Juliet was an outstanding server. The food was good but not amazing. I would not recommend the lobster bisque, though the filet mignon was excellent.
Sophisticated food is good.
