Terrible service. I will never go to the column again, quite simply because I do not accept racism towards me or anyone else. Treat everyone fairly and with respect. We were there to have a good time, not confrontation or arrogance on your part.

4th visit since May, I received an impeccable welcome and service. The duck foie gras and confit was sublime. My taste buds were satisfied. What can we say about the caviar, the wine and food pairing and all the other dishes tasted, extraordinary. a must-see!!! Congratulations to chef Marc-Antoine Bastien and his team!

I had a reservation for tonight. Unfortunately, two of the four guests have the flu. I called this morning to cancel and noticed that they charged me $160 on my credit card. This is a purely illegal action. This is not a no show but a cancellation. Restaurant with bad business practices to avoid. A complaint was lodged with the Consumer Protection Office. I can understand the impacts of no shows but for a cancellation at the start of the day, I find it abusive to act like this.

I had the chance to come and eat at this restaurant for a friends birthday. Everything was perfect from start to finish. Chef Marc-Antoine amazed us with these dishes that were as beautiful as they were delicious. The finesse and attention to detail was remarkable. We will be back very soon!

It was pretty good when I ate the other 6 dishes, and my taste buds experienced a compounding pleasure. The sixth course of bread and cheese was really shocking. I felt dizzy after eating. This dish is like giving Chinese century-old eggs to French people, inedible. Like socks that have been soaked in water, they are smelly, sour and bitter, ever-changing, and go straight to heaven Maybe this dish is good for the locals. The wine is very good and the service staff are very friendly.

We had a sublime experience at La Chronique. The service, welcome, food and atmosphere were excellent. Whether for a romantic dinner or with friends, you are definitely in the right place.

This was probably the most fine dining experience Ive ever had, celebrated my PhD acceptance here. Tried a fat pigeon, it was great.

There are just so many better places in Montreal to spend your money. The food here was so mid for some of the highest prices we have seen since moving to the city. I would not normally go into such detail but for over $300 (from the a la carte, thank god we didn t do the tasting), I think people should know what they are getting. The service was ok, but not great. The constant upselling and near condescending way that the wine and menu items were described to us came off as quite pretentious; and frankly, laughable once we actually tried the food. Bless him, our server tried but unfortunately it was just overall awkward. The restaurant itself had no atmosphere. It s just white walls with some generic abstract canvases and the music ranged from Charlotte Cardin, to background jazz, to nothing at all. Both of my partners dishes (the sweetbreads and duck) had no seasoning, and I would wager his duck was left in the sous vide too long as it had a near mushy texture. My starter (tuna) tasted like straight up lime juice, the fish was not fresh tasting, the pieces were not even cut all the way through, and it was missing some elements (which I didn t notice until someone next to us ordered the same thing and it looked different). My main (the steak) was ok, but the ratatouille it came with was so overcooked it was all one colour of mush. For $58 I expect much better. The best thing we had was the wine, of which they do have a large selection, and the bread ($5 charge) was decent but certainly not mind blowing. The final kicker was when we paid and the server told us to choose one of the tip percentages on the bill (starting at 20%). *Disclaimer that we had a treater gift card which covered a lot of the bill so we were significantly less pissed and we ended up just laughing it off and leaving, but we will not go back and do not recommend.

What can you say when everything is perfect? A bright decor, a waiter who knows his job and a young chef to whom we wish a long career. There were 3 of us and we had the tasting menu. A feast for the eyes and nose. Taste-wise, each dish seemed to want to outdo the next. To finish, the desserts, like the final bouquet of a fireworks display. A delight. A special thank you to the young chef Marc. We had warned him when booking that one of us was vegetarian. He handled it magnificently. An experience to repeat. Well done

Very good food, nice wine arrangement. Very neutral atmosphere and expensive for the service.

There s so much negative about our experience. First: We ordered a bottle of wine. Instead of being given a taste, we were questioned by the manager if we had ever had it before and that it was a interesting taste and that he wasn t sure we knew what we were ordering. The issue wasn t with the questioning, but with the tone. The demeaning attitude. Second: The first course had a piece of hair. We hesitated saying anything, but we did. The response we got was: It didn t come from our kitchen. There is nobody there with brown hair . We were the only people of color in the restaurant so the implication was quite clear. This was said very loudly and rudely so the entire restaurant could hear. I never did not tip or left a restaurant before actually having a meal, but I never felt so disrespected and out of place like I felt here. We asked for the check without even completing the first course and left this disappointing place. And paying for the bill.

What an unforgettable gastronomic experience! We opted for the tasting menu. Each of the 5 services was divine. The flavors are incredible!!! and the products are of exceptional quality. The welcome and the service team are equally extraordinary. We are grateful to have been able to experience this moment imbued with such expertise. We simply loved our evening! The only small problem!! I would have appreciated a thank you from the waitress when paying. Otherwise it was perfect. Thank you and we will definitely return. Just to tell you that the next day I received a call from the person and she apologized. I found it very professional on their part. This is why the restaurant La Chronique remains one of the best restaurants in Montreal and it will remain so. Well done, I really appreciated the call. THANKS

The chef brought us hot, toasted bread with fleur de sel butter because my husband and son refused to let their plates go without scraping the bottom!!! Courteous and pleasant service. Experience to start again. Very reasonable price for the quality of the food.

I had reserved a table at this restaurant years ago for a birthday meal and we were delighted. Earlier this month, I recommended The Chronicle to colleagues at a professional conference. These colleagues, English-speaking ethnic minorities, were apparently treated so negatively by the head sommelier that they had to leave your restaurant for another establishment. They had noted that they were the only non-white people that evening. Being a visible minority myself and knowing this feeling, I believe them 100%. I am ashamed, deeply embarrassed, angry, and absolutely mortified that I recommended your restaurant to them and gave them this experience. No more positive suggestions about you. And if you want to improve following this criticism, then correct yourself and act better in the future.

We were talked down to even though we have experience with food and wine as restauranteurs. Sadly our wish for a pleasant dinner ended up with patronizing and sexist service, minuscule portions, half glass wine servings, and of course hair in the main course. Biting into food and gagging on hair is not acceptable anywhere especially at such a so called classy restaurant. No apologies or comp. Wrote an email to administration the next week but no response. Shocked that this place is still open! Hope your experience will be better than ours. Will not be back.

I had a reservation for 6 guests last week with my in-laws and weve never been served with such disrespect. Upon entry, the servers did not greet or smiled at us. The general atmosphere of the restaurant felt cold and sterile. We had a reservation for 6:30 pm and the restaurant was empty and yet the service was completely unfriendly. The female server as oppose to asking my Mother in law to push her chair in slightly or sit elsewhere due to space constraint, she aggressively push the chair reaggravating my mother in-laws knee injury that is awaiting surgery. When asked about the menu, the server felt like she did not need to explain the menu to us and had abruptly left the table. When we had asked the servers why are they acting like they do not want to serve us, the male server had told us to leave the restaurant if we did not like the service and that is exactly what we did. We are a family that are well traveled internationally and eaten at many fine restaurants around the world and this by far has been the worst restaurant experience weve ever had. I am not sure if its because we are anglophone, or of Jewish Heritage, or Asian Heritage that they decided that they can discriminate and not treat us with respect. Whats worst is that I was charged with a $300 no show charge on my credit card after they had explicitly told us that we are free to leave our reservation if we are unhappy with the service.

Montreal at the table 2023 - to try again to define quality To begin with, impeccable service! Absolutely nothing to say about that. The only waitress available in the place welcomed us and served us extremely well. In terms of food, we made reservations for dinner using the Montréal à table website - on site we learned that the restaurant did not offer this option during dinner. Given the situation, they agreed to accommodate us. Therefore our criticism must take it into consideration. As for the starters, they were really good. Difficult to do better. Our disappointment was with the main course, the scallops with risotto. The risotto was really undercooked and the scallops were undercooked, but we think its possible that this is because they werent prepared to offer the menu. The dessert was well presented and good, without being remarkable (its not easy to stand out with a chocolate cake). In short, I will go back to give it a second chance; just for the starters honestly it was worth it! To see if, with the ordinary menu and without surprises, everything is as good as the starters.

A good restaurant to try.

When we arrived, me and my partner received a look of disdain from the sommelier to tell us that there was absolutely NO signature drink, but she became more cheerful when we bought one. bottle of red wine. At the end of the main meal we took away our empty wine glasses instead of refilling them because there was half the bottle left and we were offered no dessert .

My first experience (not the last) at La Chronique last Saturday and I have nothing but praise. Each dish (tasting menu, a must) was more delicious and surprising than the last. A particular favorite for scallops...one word: spectacular. Everything was perfect from the food to the impeccable service and what can we say about Marianne the sommelier who took us on an adventure of discovery, without any pretension. Were going back and in the meantime, were still dreaming of scallops! Go for it!

For our last meal at the restaurant in 2021 Sublime. The food, the service, the detail in the presentation: Worthy...of the CHRONICLE!

We came to La Chronique for Valentines Day 2020 and it was very successful. We came back in December 2021 with the family to introduce them to them, and the dishes as well as the wine pairings were very successful (and yet with a Bordelaise and a Burgundian out of the 4 wine lovers, it had to be done). The chef-owner present that evening, Marc de Canck, was very accessible and graced us with his presence at the end of the meal. We also left with a signed menu as a souvenir. The sommelier, John, is to be thanked for the pairings and has succeeded in assembling subtle wines that blend perfectly with the creativity of the chef. A real pleasure on all levels, whether taste, visual or simply human. Impeccable service and an exceptional menu. We will be back, thanks for the experience!

Good quality traditional French cuisine. Good meal, slightly dull atmosphere. Expensive for what it is in my opinion

Very good restaurant. Three of the 5 dishes on the tasting menu were delicious. The 4th was very good and the dessert was disappointing in our opinion. We didnt expect this last course to live up to the others, desserts are rarely fantastic in good restaurants in my opinion, but we also didnt expect the walk between the last course and the dessert evening also high. Otherwise quality service, a little long to start and between courses (we were there for 3 hours without taking the time for a coffee after dessert).

Only one available choice on Saturday menu. 5 course meal for $125 before tax & tip. Good quality overall but we had to ask for bread near the end to fill ourselves.

Menu from another era, not original. The same sauce for 2 of the dishes on the single menu. Single menu very very very expensive $125 is a steal. Its more than twice as expensive. Poor allergy management Replacements were poor. The owners pass the bill on to customers given the 50% capacity linked to COVID measures. This restaurant should close instead of making people laugh!

I had a 7 services. The food was great! Big portions. The price is good. Service is good. Waiting is a bit long. But i have to say, I prefer coming back here than a well known restaurant opened by a well known chef which im not gonna name. Edit: I loved my first experience so decided to visit a second time. (After covid19 hit they changed the 7 course meal to 5) it was still worth it and I still recommend this place.

We went to dinner at La Chronique to celebrate my birthday and we were not disappointed. The menu is elaborate and we have never eaten so well. The price is absolutely right for the quality of the food. The decor leaves a little to be desired, but everything else was perfect!

We have been going to the Chronique for 4 years, two or three times a year. Over the years the taste on the plate has deteriorated, but it remains a good meal. I give two stars for two reasons, the service and the price. During our last visit, the service was subpar. We felt like we were at a funeral and no one wanted to work. The sommeliere was totally apathetic and without relevant advice. I dont even know where chef Olivier de Montigny was but this establishment is deteriorating on the plate and in the dining room. At $250+ per person for fun, it seems to me that we can expect a lot more from the Chronique.

Haughty and condescending. The attitude of the servers makes the experience less pleasant... The explosion of flavors in the dishes is missing.

This was a nice 5-course degustation menu. Food was tasty, original and classy. Portions were ok, we were not super full after but not hungry either. Wine list was very expensive but they seem to have nice products. Service was average, my birthday was not mentionned at all even if my spouse had said it in the reservation, there was a little mix up in naming some ingredients and they took away the amuse bouche while my spouse still had it in his mouth... So, food and wine were good, but the whole experience lacked the refinement, ambiance and little plus to make it great

Busy and tiny restaurant. Not the best service. The food was ok. Dont get me wrong, the food wasnt bad, it was alright. The presentation was pretty nice. A bit over priced

Had dinner on 11/04/2021 Dinner was 5 + 2 courses. Quite a good seasonal menu but compared to other fine dining french restaurants in the city La Chronique had issues. I was dining in a party of 3, and was the one who chose the restaurant. The server only addressed the one man in our party 90% of the time, which made the service feel very dated. In terms of the food, the amuse bouché s and dessert course was the best part of the meal. The lobster bisque was amazing and so was the foie gras macaron. As for the main courses I was disappointed. The sashimi course was good. Thé morue was very over-salted, to the extent I found it hard to finish. I understand that morue is salted cod but the garnishes were also salted which amplified the saltiness of the dish. Thé foie gras rôti was acceptable, but thé foie gras was gritty. Thé veau du lait was done two ways, and in my serving the sweetbreads were so overcooked that they were crunchy, like croutons. Service took a bit too long. The whole dinner lasted 2.5- 3hours. In comparison, bullion bilk served 8 courses with cocktails in 2 hours. I also noticed that my servings were in much smaller size and lower quality than my dining partners. To the extent my friend shared her portions with me. In summary, the food and service was acceptable but very inconsistent. I will not revisit considering the other French restaurants available in the city.

Excellent meal. Tasting formula 4-5 courses only, food and wine pairing of your choice, therefore expensive but expected. Excellent service, courteous and professional, classy but unpretentious. Very pleasant experience for special occasion.

A friend and I went to eat at La Chronique during the MTLàTABLE event. La Chronique offers a good restaurant that deserves to be discovered during this event. In terms of flavors, the dishes were well balanced and the meat was cooked as requested. The portions were also satisfactory. The wines offered during the food and wine pairing were good, but nothing more. When we got to dessert, things started to go wrong. Thats when we started to rush. We were first promptly brought the bill and literally 30 seconds after paying the bill the waiter came with our mentals and asked us to leave as other people were waiting for the table. Although I understand the concept of MTLàTABLE, it is rather clumsy and cavalier to push customers towards the exit when they have barely finished the meal and the amount is around $100/person. I was so surprised at the time that we left, but upon reflection its not what you expect from a restaurant that aims to be a great restaurant in Montreal. Also, there were other people around us who had finished eating, but we were the ones asked to leave...why...? Although the menu is good, I dont think I will return to the Chronicle because of this incident.

Rather disappointed The products are fresh and good but a little something is missing that surprises and awakens the attenuation. Fish a little overcooked. The wine was ordinary. The service was a little cold and stiff at the beginning but ended up being more relaxed at the end. For this price and this type of restaurant I expected better.

Delicious 7-course tasting menu with an unfortunate lack of attention at the end. I booked the 7-course tasting menu there (225$ cad per serving) with my spouse to celebrate her 30th birthday. She s still recovering from a stomach operation which made her temporarily intolerant to gluten, something I carefully mentioned upon reservation and repeated to the waiter on our arrival just to be sure everyone was aware in the kitchen. Both the waiter and booking staff confirmed the chef frequently adapts dishes as needed for gluten free customers. However as we were completing dinner, which had been great until desert, we were served with a dish that included a crust that was made in part of gluten. This was very unfortunate because my spouse started having a reaction within minutes and was unwell for the following 24 hours - and we had to cut our night out short and return home instead of enjoying the local night life a little longer. It s a sour finish to a night of foodie indulgence and waiter service that could have been otherwise fantastic. I m giving them 3 star because at their cost level a high degree of attention to detail and refinement is expected. The waiter did offer to reduce my spouse s service to a 5-course tasting menu as a measure of apology but that was entirely besides the point as I did not even ask for a price reduction. Dining at that price point isn t about money, it s about precision and care. The chef didn t mind having a waiter apologize for him and as we were the last folks left in the restaurant and they were closing up.

Saturday night, this restaurant wouldve been fantastic if not for one very important issue, our food came to the table lukewarm. Both the appetizers, and main. The waiter sloughed it off, as if not important.

Five courses in five hours. The sommelier was fun and entertaining with his rudeness & constant sneaky swigs from the wine bottle as he walked away from the table. The hidden gem here was the laughter this gave my partner and I for days, absolutely priceless.

I went for lunch. Just 4 tables were occupied which was delightfully quiet. Ambiance and service were good. The green vichyssoise was delicate and heavenly. The cod with chorizo and lobster sauce was a great achievement. The chocolate dessert, however, was too busy with a dozen flavors that did not integrate successfully in my opinion. I d go back to try the other options in the (limited) menu.

Great meal in a wonderful setting. Definitely recommend it.

This was the best restaurant we went to in Vegas! First all it just wasnt the Greta food it was the whole experience. We were so excited to go have dinner at the top. We dine at the Effie tower thinking the restaurant was at the top but it wasnt, it still had a nice view of the water show, but wasnt the experience we had at top of the world.

Superior food and superior service without pretension. We ordered a la Carter, but if youre willing to be adventurous, the degustation meal (either 5 or 7 courses) where the chef chooses the menu, is a phenomenal deal. We are in Montreal several times each year and never miss the opportunity to dine here. The choice of wines is as amazing as the food and my husband had the delight of the premium Chartreuse as his aperitif, very difficult to find. Not inexpensive, but worth the cost.

Very rude male waiter taking my coat, no smile, turned his back on me to walk up stairs, then semi argumentative when I inquired if the coat check was supervised. It only takes one bad apple in a service chain to ruin the experience. Food was OK but nothing to write home about. Overpriced and way overhyped if you have eaten in great true 5 star restaurants internationally.

Without doubt one of the best restaurants in town, I highly recommend it!!

Pretentious, pricey and too salty

Good restaurant but some downsides, bread not toasted but burnt. The very fatty foie gras with nerves, the duck a few pieces with nerves also! The service is not up to par with a gourmet restaurant. The prices are high compared to the quality of certain dishes offered, and finally I had specified during my telephone reservation that it was for my wedding anniversary , and no attention was paid during our meal, really disappointed, especially when you read the excellent comments on the internet..for almost the same price, bulud house is way above!!

Spectacular food! One of my favorites in Montreal. I disdain Joe Beef and Au Pied de Cochon as hipster food. This is classic.

Ive had this place on my bucket list for years, but never had the time/occasion/money to go. But I finally did and even though my expectations were sky high, La Chronique knocked it out of the park. Impeccable service, impressive wine list, perfect food. The only possible gripe I could give is perhaps the decor. White walls, white tablecloths, white plates, it kinda gives off a bit of a cold ambiance. But I guess its a classic look. The menu is simple, 4-5 entrees and 4-5 mains. We were tempted to try the tasting menu, but the a la carte choices were too good. Everything was flawless. The cauliflower velouté was one of the best things Ive ever eaten. That does it, Im saving up for a Thermomix. The sweetbreads were perfect, and the steak was world class. The fat melted in your mouth like butter! Yes, its a bit of a splurge, but Im really glad to have finally dined, and you, internet stranger, should consider giving this place a try if youre in the neighborhood.

Food was really good but service fell a bit short. The server seemed put out - came across standoff-ish although appeared to be knowledgable on food & wine. Extensive wine list.

This establishment exudes freedom. Free to please at all costs, free to do it your way. In no way linked to fashions . The Chronicle follows its rhythm and extends over time this idea of breaking the monotony with a gustatory joie de vivre. Yum!

Good but expensive

The food and wine pairing was excellent. We really appreciated the little touches and the service was impeccable. I wish the music was a little louder.

I didnt even make it to the restaurant to try the food so this is a 1-star for customer service and the reservation process during MTL a table. Dont be fooled to think this restaurant has space when you book online and make sure to call them back or they will cancel your seemingly confirmed appointment if you do not call back within 2.5 hours of their phone call to you. Without any warning. I was told I could come for 9pm instead of my original spot at 7:30. When I went online to see their availability after I hung up, there were still spots open for earlier on in the evening, not only 9pm. The food may be great but the customer service is horrible and reason alone to not even bother going. It cannot be that great to warrant such a feeling of you should be so lucky to eat with us feeling. The best restaurants in the world treat their customers - potential and those in the restaurant - with class and respect. If the restaurant needs to secure their bookings, do what all top (if La Chronique is actually top) restaurants do and require a credit card to book with a clear cancellation policy or keep your reservations to phone only. Online reservations should not require a double confirmation - if I booked online, I booked online. If your restaurant is so busy you need to know that I will show up, even though I booked it, then state that clearly in your first contact or find another way to manage your popularity.

Excellent service. The desserts are exquisite.

We visited here during Mtl a table, they had a 45 dollar 3 course meal. Nice newer digs compared to their older location. The service was fast and to the point. We tried ordering a non alcohol drink but was told we could have soda, thats it. The food was good and very well presented, we enjoyed the pork belly and desserts but main dishes didnt give us a wow factor.

It was good, nothing to say but I was expecting an explosion of flavors for my starter and main course. On the other hand, surprising, but the dessert was excellent and dry. The portions arent huge so we left feeling a little hungry.

Too fast, stressful! It wasnt our first time at the column, but it will be the last. We went during Montreal À Table and were very disappointed. The service was way too fast. We felt rushed. No time to explain the menu, boom, we order. We took the wine pairing, no explanation of the 2 wine choices. One red, one white, we are shown the bottles, no time to read the label, the glasses are served, we dont taste, the waiter has left just as soon. Time is precious. We didnt have time to finish our drink before the 2nd service arrived. Theres nothing more horrible at a restaurant than when you feel like you have to drink your drink to follow the service. The waiter was constantly behind us, watching us so he could maximize his time. It was very unpleasant. And yet the restaurant was not full. 3 courses, 1h10 - in and out. A record! .. Oh and the 1h10 includes the time while the staff was looking for our coats which they had misplaced.

Very very expensive. Waiter could not describe the plates. Didn t care about the customer. Bad attitude. Food is good but NOT worthed the experience at all. Never be back again. Nov 21.

Absolutely loved this place, My wife chose it as a birthday date for us and I enjoyed every second. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Coming here with no expectations, I was felt very satisfied when I left with my belly full.

Outstanding service, food is exceptional, excellent wine pairing. And those who say it is overpriced clearly dont know what they talk about. I would give an extra star if I could.

Excellent gourmet restaurant in Montreal!

The welcome was pleasant, and our table was located in a very quiet corner on the middle floor. The atmosphere is perfectly adequate for a business dinner. The 5-course menu is excellent with original dishes. The wine pairing is sometimes a little more adventurous, however. I would rather take the wines a la carte next time, which would also have the advantage of limiting the mixes. The service was sometimes a little long, especially at the end and when paying, which leaves time to admire the cellar. Overall, a very good experience.
