Yia Sou Greek Grill in Montreal

Very good food and good service

This is my favourite souvlaki in the area at this point. I have been a lifelong lover of villa du souvlaki and souvlaki George but at the end of the day this place has the best quality ingredients and tastes super fresh each time.

Where to begin...It is the worst Greek food I have ever had in a restaurant in my life, anywhere in the world. Food courts are better than this...first off, one of the appetizers ordered was Dolmades...which upon first bite were obviouisly from a can...I told the waiter this, to his credit he admitted that It was, but then lied and told me that he always tells people up front that the Dolmades are from a can..because in his words we used to do them fresh, but its too much work so they order high end cans well..he did not tell me up front, and i can buy my own cans of food in most decent shops in Montreal. Why go to a restaurant and order a dish that comes from a can...My arrogant Austrian German waiter did not seem to understand this...Then the Saganaki, was hard and tasteless, after the same waiter made a great show of lighting it on fire in front of the restaurant, l..which is not how the dish is supposed to be done...it must cook a bit in the Ouzo..but anyway...then the main dish, Gyro was good, but the Calamari was frozen and quite obviously a bit off. and the roasted potatoes were tasteless, and one of them was musty tasting , dry and powdery and clearly from the previous nights service...I returned the plate and the same arrogant waiter told me that he did not agree with me and that no one had ever complained about the Calamari in 16 years...to which I basically laughed in his face especially when he informed me that he had personally cut up the fresh Calamari himself...of course he did. the item was removed from the bill, to be fair, he also removed the canned Dolmades without being asked to,which is why I gave the service any stars at all...also the bill when given only offers a minimum of 18% tip, which this waiter clearly did not deserve...I tipped him anyway out of pity. You see my little Austrian friend, the person you lied to and treated with arrogance is a chef...thats right , I know better than you about food quality. And you should be embarassed to be serving this. Avoid this restaurant , you are better off cooking yourself or buying a few Cans as they apparently do then you can enjoy the Yiasou dining experience without dishng out your hard earned money. I am rarely as outraged by a dinning experience as I am today. You have been warned....RESPONSE TO OWNER. MANAGER, BLAH BLAH BLAH... to the owner or whoever you are, I dont need to waste my time looking to speak to some manager of a 3 rd rate restaurant like yours. I dont care what your waiters name was,HE COULD NOT CARE LESS ABOUT WHAT HE WAS PUTTING ON THE FLOOR AND WAS ARROGANT ABOUT IT... and he still got afull tip even though the food was partially inedible...If you say that your Dolmades are homemade, then you are simply lying...you can tatse the metallic taste that comes from canned food, they were canned and your waiter even said so...your calamari is frozen, and it tasted off...your potatoes were not made that day, at least one of them...it was inedible, so dont come back here and spew this dribble. You may have been good at one point, but once you start serving food out of a can, its time to rethink your position in the culinary circles...speaking of which, there is a huge Greek comunity in Montreal, and to say that your Calamari is the best in the city, is not only an insult to my intelligence , but you are laughing at the entire comunity. Your food is lousy..same chef?...maybe its time for him to move on. And no, your saganaki was not prepared properly at all...I rarely leave reviews because restaurants have it hard, but in your case I could not let it pass...It was literally the worst Greek food I have ever eaten. and your head waiter who is still the Austrian german, there is nothing wrong with that, he was proud of it, did not seem to be bothered at all by the digusting stuff he was allowing on the floor. To you and to him...a word of advice, dont lie to your customers, the truth comes out. Yet I am vulgar and distateful...you serve frozen Calamari and other foods that come from a can...you are a disgrace and dishonest

I am very dissatisfied with the food and the service in this restaurant. I went to this restaurant for lunch a week ago because I had invited a friend who was visiting Montreal. Being there made me feel so embarrassed. First, I asked about their best and most popular dish, as I wanted to offer my guest the best food. The portion of the food was very very small and the quality of the food was ridiculous!!! We ordered kebabs, which were extremely small and so tough they were like rubber. We asked for a spoon, and the server brought it to us in a very disrespectful manner, practically throwing it onto the table. This restaurant is right across the street from my home, but I will never go there again, even if the food and service were free. I don t understand how it has good reviews. It was absolutely ridiculous.

Well I had the Steak Fries, which is advertised as a nice sized portion of Steak and I was asked how I liked it cooked, I requested med rare please. When I got the Steak it was so thin that there was only two ways to cook it, well done or blue rare! I must say it was well seasoned and tasty and overall the size as advertised, but way too thin. The fries were way over cooked and that is all you get on the plate for $36, not even a garnish.

Soon as i got home me and my girl got really sick in the stomach i don t know what was wrong with the food. Happen to me last time a year and a half ago and i decided to give it a try again yesterday and i m not returning to that restaurant again.

All your classic Greek delights are here with a home style approach. Mousaka. Briami. Gyro. Calamarakia. Fakes. Saganaki. Etc.... Lots of choices from the grill. A variety of fun cocktails. Courteous attentive service. Opa! Efgaristó.

Everything was cooked to perfection. Happy to say this place is still my go to for great lamb chops. My lamb chop fix was once again redeemed. Last time some time end of last year when we came here, the doneness for everybody on the table was wrong and the meat was not as tender. However we had hope coming back next time that wed leave on a positive note. A very positive note indeed! Over the weekend wow. Most tender juiciest lamb chops. Price to quality and portion was just right. Everyone enjoyed their food from the spanakopita to the calamari, the zucchini chips, moussaka, steak and again the lambchops! And souvlakis, all was delicious. Special thanks to Isabella for making a round of really good strawberry daquiris!

There is 3-4 cup of tzatziki on each pita and its perfect tzatziki; very thick and does not leave you tasting garlic all day so perfect for work lunch. The onions are also fresh and mild (so I dont have to order without as usual) and olives are delightful. Love the fair portion of lamb; the 2 lamb pita platter is perfect, more than enough for 2 people and house salad dressing (over horitaki) is perfect match for everything on the plate. Taramas is also really good which is hard to find (almost as good as JDP!) WOW 5 STARS.

My daughter and I were there last night June 4th with my husband for his birthday beautiful service our waiter was so friendly and efficient , the food was amazing . Been here for years and generally the food is consistent. The decor is getting old and dated and needs to be refreshed. Pricing is a little high. Portions are ok but not great. Very good souvlaki, lentil soup, baklava, Greek salad, chicken skewer, their frozen fries are actually decent too, tzatziki very good, teramoslata good, steak and fries decent but not a steak place so . Lamb stock great. Porc souvlaki great. Poor - calamari. Overly greasy, not very well seasoned, and the oil did not smell good at all and had to return it. Been many times. One of the best Greek restaurants in Montreal. Very local and close to where I live. Easy to enjoy their amazing lentil soup. My friend had the grilled chicken which is delicious. Parking: Even though it s on Queen Mary. Can still find parking either paid or unpaid on one of the side streets nearby.

I received 2 pork pitas overloaded with an extreme amount of taziki and I received them cold. The pork was chewy and full of connective tissue. It was horrendous. The fries were potatoes wedges with no flavor. Worse experience and a waste of money. Online they said 15.99$ but when I called they said 18$

I had previously rated this place a solid 5 i d come about once a month but after yesterday s experience i m not coming back. Server was condescending and rude asking me why i didn t tip him more and i quote 2 more dollars would ve killed you , this was with 0 provocation from my part and I never wanted to fight this guy. He s in no place to ask why i didn t leave a larger tip, extremely disrespectful and his behavior wouldn t have been the same if the restaurant was full (we were the only table) and if i was an older customer. Horrible experience, not once did i ever go to a restaurant and get disrespected by a waiter for no reason. On my way out the waiter threatened me saying You re lucky I work here .

On Queen Mary on the west side of Decarie, nestled between an assorted of other shops and restaurants is YIA SOU and fairly large size traditional Greek cuisine establishment. The single sheet menu is expansive (if not even a bit confusing with all the options) prepared and served in the classic Montreal size: rice, well season roasted potatoes, salad (multiple options) and large sized portions (unless you are a big eater be prepared for some take away). Overall service is friendly and on point. The ambiance is bright and airy and, if crowded, may be a bit loud but this is a very good option for large family dinners with kids...good food, lots of space and affordable. Enjoy! Parking: Generally speaking street parking on Queen Mary is OK...its metered

Good greek food, well prepared, Our waitress, Maria , was very attentive, professional, friendly and efficient. Im sure that , do to a shortage of stuff, thats present everywhere, it took a little longer for the food to be prepared but it was worth the wait. The chicken souvlaki is good, oven potatoes great and a greek salad. For drivers, they have non-alcoholic beer. Due to popularity it was full and a little hard to have a conversation with someone that wasnt sitting near you. Otherwise a great experience. Vegetarian options: From the menu it seems it can accommodate a vegetarian meal. Kid-friendliness: They have a menu for kids Wheelchair accessibility: Beside the 2 little step at entrance the floor is open. Unfortunately the bathrooms are in basement so not an option for someone in wheelchair . I dont know but maybe they have an option on the main floor

Lol easily the worst service I have ever experienced. I hate leaving negative reviews, especially to a family business, and I get that COVID hit the industry hard, but you cant run a business with people with zero customer service skills. People just expect tips at this point, and will chase you out of the restaurant when they dont get any, just absurd. The waiter had the audacity to chase us outside demanding a tip. Beat it

There were 10 of us and there was a power outage at the beginning of the meal and there was terrible smoke that caused burning in the eyes and the hosts did not offer us to go out on the balcony and did not try to find a solution and charged full price for the meal

Just ordered a pork pita with coke zero through the doordash. There was no coke in the bag which was stapled. I called them they said they packed it, blaming it on a delivery guy. Chunks of pork were half raw and chewy. Not shaved like in real gyros. Based on this order staff of this restaurant is lazy and ignorant. Im done with this place. This is Montréal, Québec, Canada - first world country. We Canadians deserve great service, great food and respect. If youre lazy and dont care about your customers dont bother doing it.

I brought friends who were passing through Montreal and we were ALL DISAPPOINTED with the quality of the food. The service was relatively quick but the quality was not there. As for the ambiance, it was AVERAGE... I certainly wont go back and wont recommend it to anyone.

Last week 5 couples arrived at you rest. The Greek music was appreciated and was complimented by friendly professional service. As always your lentil soup was outstanding as was the Greek chicken that most of us ordered. The herbal dressing added to the taste and was worth waiting for. In todays world of much higher prices in most restaurants Yia Sou has managed to keep their increase to a reasonable level.

The portions were really good. I found there was too much dressing on the salad and too much oil in my meal. The waitress was polite and friendly.

I ve been going to Yia Sou with my wife for close to 15 years. Now we go with our two kids and it s their favorite restaurant to go to. The food is excellent. The souvlaki sticks are always juicy and flavorful. The pitas are loaded with tzatziki and always fresh. The spanakopita is delicious (love the addition of leeks). The house salad with chicken is enormous and good for two meals. Everything is good here and the food comes out very quickly. While the food is always worth a visit, what really keeps us coming back is the excellent service. The staff there have always treated our family well. They ve seen our kids grow over the years and have always been great to us. Manny always takes the time to see how we re doing and it s really appreciated. We ve lived in the area for 15 years and it is not an easy location to keep a restaurant in business. Yia Sou is the only place that has stood the test of time and it s all because they do everything with care. Great job guys! Kid-friendliness: They have a generous kid s menu and are always accommodating to kids.

Yia sou has been a favourite for many years. Tonight we visited for dinner and really enjoyed the lentil soup (best in town!) and lamb souvlaki plate! Our server, a lovely young lady, has served me many times and she was wonderful this evening. Food is also fresh and delicious. This is a great neighbourhood spot and is also reasonably priced.

The food here is amazing!! It tastes so good, and the plates are very very fulfilling so please bring your appetite! The only thing I didn t like was that the entire place smelled like the food, so when you leave you end up smelling like that even -your hair but other than that it was incredible!

We ordered take out for twelve people from Yia Sou on a recent trip to Montreal. WOW, the food was amazing. You must taste the baked chicken. It is out of this world.

Have eaten on site (the octopus was excellent), but more often have ordered in - at least 15 times. Always order the same but tonight was probably the best chicken gyros ever. Compliments to the staff!

I didnt end up going here but I did a lot of research for Greek restaurants in that area and this one was my top pick. I called for reservations and they mentioned that they had large groups going in later that evening but would definitely fit me in earlier for my small group. I loved that. They were so friendly and accommodating. I will definitely make an effort to go there in the future!

Very good local food

My daughter just turned 13 on Dec.1 and my birthday was on the 3rd. Since she also had her karate competition that day and won, I decided to celebrate our birthdays and her victory at this restaurant. It was our first time to eat here. And we had the best birthday lunch! The staff is always ready to help, the premises are extremely clean, the atmosphere is lovely, and the food is both delicious and beautifully presented. I highly recommend this place.

Excellent and friendly service with authentic Greek food in an enjoyable setting. Had a work party in the back, perfect space to enjoy each others company. Salad was terrific, steak was outstanding. Will 100% return.

We have eaten in the restaurant a few times, picked up our order a few times, and just got delivery for the first time. I have no idea how they do it, but the food just keeps getting better!! Yia Sou is our go-to, for sure. We look always look forward to this treat! Dietary restrictions: Celiac-friendly. They know what I can and can not have, and they have a separate fryer for fries. Of course, no restaurant can guarantee to be free from cross contamination, but Yia Sou tries to be helpful.
