Beautiful restaurant at a very unconventional spot. Everything from the minute we walked in was perfect. Emily greeted and seated us on their terrace, which is both covered and heated, so you don’t have to worry if it’s raining or a little chilly. They brought a plate of their sourdough focaccia, olives and olive oil while we were looking at the food and drink menus. We started with a mixed appetizer plate which included beef, lamb and pork arrosticinis, chopped up razor clams, mussels and halibut crudo. We also tried the white fish croquettes, fried polenta and the tomato focaccia. Delicious 👌🏼 For primi, we shared a tagliatelle dish with chanterelles and pancetta. The secondi was a perfectly cooked striploin which was accompanied by broccolini and fries. We ended the night by sharing two tiramisus between the 4 of us, as we were pretty full from all the food. I highly recommend this restaurant whether it’s for a night out with friends, a dinner between couples or even for corporate lunches/dinners. The service we got from Emily was as good as service can get!

Had a date night at Gia yesterday and it did not disappoint! We were looking for a nice restaurant the day off and easily booked a table. Intimate setting with dimmed lighting, music and sound level were not overwhelming. Service was very friendly and efficient. We ordered a glass of orange wine and a mai tai with a twist which were both refreshing. For food, we got the seafood specials such as the lobster bites and razor clams, the eggplants with parsley and cheese (which melted in our mouths), the fish croquettes, and the pici all’annantra (best ragout pasta dish I’ve EVER had, better even than in Florence). We finished it off with the chocolate cake (flourless and decadent) and the fig leaves gelato which piqued our interest. All in all definitely recommend this gem tucked away in st Henri.

I’ve been to Gia before and it never disappoints! They have a nice restaurant inside as well as a big tent outside for the summer. We came for my bday dinner and immediately made friends with the bartender, Jon, who was super nice! We had the garlic honey brioche bread (divine) with the lamb and beef arrosticini (dip the bread in the oils!). We also had the fish balls and the fennel salad, which were delicious too. The salad has a strong taste of anchovy if that isn’t your thing. We got the tiramisu and I wasn’t crazy about it - a bit too heavy on the dark chocolate and espresso taste. Oh and the filthy martini was very good! Overall great vibe. Prices on the higher side because you’ll get multiple plates. Fun specials. Parking on the street.

Had such a wonderful night out! We messed up our reservation and only put 2 people instead of 3 but the welcoming waitor took such great care of us and made sure we felt welcomed while we waited for a table to free up that would accommodate us! Then at the table our waitress was so helpful and sold us the menu personably! She recommended a great wine! The food was fantastic too! Amazing gem - will be back for sure! Thanks for making us feel at home!!

My partner and I have been loyal Gia customers for the last few years. The food is always fantastic, the atmosphere is trendy and the service is impeccable (they really know their stuff). I highly recommend trying their wines as they have a broad selection of interesting imports available. Gia has a rotating menu with seasonal items, so you’ll want to come back to try new things. They are able to accommodate for gluten free / celiac diets (many of the menu items don’t contain gluten and they are careful about cross-contamination). And make space for dessert because it is always a highlight!

Loved our experience here. My partner and I went for an intimate new year's eve dinner and had such a nice time. The food was delicious, the service was great - our server was kind and treated us well. We had the eggplant starter with their homemade focaccia, followed by the lobster risotto and ricotta gnocchi with truffles. We had a bottle of orange wines, and for dessert we ended the night with tiramisu and orange granita. Everything was amazing - the eggplant was rich, the focaccia was airy, the risotto had a generous portion of lobster, the gnocchi melted in my mouth, the orange wine was crisp and slightly tart. I'm italian and I have high standards for tiramisu and I'm happy to report that Gia's impressed me! But the star of meal was the orange granita - it was so light and full of flavor, it was like a real orange in shaved ice form. One of the best desserts I've had. Highly recommend! It was not a cheap experience but everything we ate was so enjoyable that I think it's worth going to. I was concerned about going there on new years because I thought it might be slammed or very loud, and while they did have a DJ, the vibe was really chill and perfect for a romantic evening out.

Very expensive for what it is. The food was okay, nothing more. The pasta we ordered was hard, frankly more than aldente. The cabbage cigar was good, but I was expecting wow, but it was just a cabbage cigar like I make at home. The polenta was very good. Difficulty finding a wine that we liked, a funky wine. In the end, it was GST holiday, but we were billed? It was very cold all evening even though we were at the back of the restaurant. The service was good, even if the head sommelier was eager to finish with us A little disappointed.

2024: service was still excellent. Music was better. Lamb arrosticini, eggplant, fennel salad, and pici pasta with ragu were delicious. Great presentation overall. Suggested wine pairing worked well. Agua Di Gia cocktail was a bit boring. 2022: Friendly and efficient service. Great wine recommendations. Shared the lamb and beef arrosticini, the eggplant, the artichoke, the lamb sausage, and the duck tartare. All were unique and delicious. Music and decor could be a little more interesting, but overall a fantastic experience.

Chose this place for my closest friends 40th birthday. Service was great. Vicc was perfectly bilingual, humorous, knew his stuff, professional to a T - great! Drinks: One of us had the one sparkling white wine that came by the glass, I had the bourbon cocktail. Both were good, simple, but thats expected. Birthday boy had a mocktail. 12$ is a bit steep for a mocktail. Tasted very good, but thats a heft price tag. Appertizers were the beef, pork and lamb skewers, with a fat piece of foccacia to scoop up that garlic and parlsey butter. The skewers were SENSATIONAL. Best part of the meal, and the one thing I would focus on if I ever go back. Lamb was amazing. Pork was tender. Beef was a tad over-cooked, but quite good. Skewers is what they are known for, and they did not dissapoint. The four of us split 3 mains: The Duck ragout, which was tasty, but lacked duck flavour. The tagliatelle, which had a great sauce and the mushrooms were wonderful but the pasta was over-cooked which was unfortunate. The sausage was decent, but the lentils and crispy kale on the plate were actually the best part. Dessert: The birthday boy was gifter the canteloup and geranium granita, which was lovely. One couple split the chocolat ice cream and hazelnut merinuge sunday which was great, and the other had the tiramisu, which was....quite disappointing. It looked like a basic restaurant dessert at 3x the price. Would I go back? Probably, a nice glass of wine, foccacia and skewers - YES. All the rest was rather forgetable. But then again, as long as there is one that one taste, that one flavor that brings you back...isnt that what matters?

Im talking about my recent experience here. This is the 3-4th time. The food is excellent, prices are in the 100+ range for 2 people. The portions are decent, not huge and not small. What bothered us is that if you ask us if we want foccacia, ask us if we also want olive oil before loading it into the bill! We are charged with focaccia, and also a little bit of olive oil? But we didn t ask for olive oil!

3rd time at this restaurant since they opened and the portions are diminishing like snow in the sun... Whether its the plate and radish with hazelnuts or the micro-skewers we border on indecency. It would be high time to readjust because at this rate there will be no meat left around the wooden picks ;-)... at $800 for 4 people (including a child) we expect not to be hungry when we finish. .. Price inflation and reduction in portions.

11/10 experience. We recently had the pleasure of dining here, and I can confidently say it was one of the best dining experiences Ive ever had. We hadnt planned to dine here, but after another restaurant had lost power, they called Gia to see if they could accommodate our table of 10 within minutes, also with a prix fixe menu. From the moment we arrived, Lawrence treated us like royalty. The service was impeccable. Larry and his crew were knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely passionate about the food and experience. The menu is so unique and tasty, each prepared with meticulous attention to detail. Not only was the food delicious, but the portions were more than enough to feed all 10 of us! Overall, Gia exceeded all of our expectations. The combination of exceptional food, outstanding service, and a charming atmosphere makes this restaurant a must-visit.

Been here twice, and would give it 4 and 2 stars respectively, so well average it at 3. Most recently was the Gia X Four Horsemen collaboration. Snow crab was ok - not mind blowing, not terrible, just ok. With the Gnocco Frito with prosciutto, the strongest flavour was the oil - heavy, oily, and largely bland. The beans with parmigianno was the best dish of the night. Original and delicious. The spaghetti was ok - having a large unmelted mass of cheese in the middle of a pasta dish is not ideal, IMO. The contre-filet with chanterelles was well cooked, but not exactly a dish bursting with flavour or coming together. The meat itself was tougher than one would expect, to the point I questioned if it was contre-filet, and overall it just fell flat - at $110 for the dish, one would expect something tastier or at least more unique. Service was good, except for the fact that when serving the table behind me and to the left, where there was a larger gentleman seated, the server bumped into my back every single time they passed. Atmosphere was lively.

We were a table of 4. The locale is pretty cool. A touch loud but tolerable. Drinks ? So we can t make a cosmo because we have no cranberry juice (yes I m old school). Ok let s have an Aperol spritz, sadly it s a little flat but we move on. We order a whole bunch of different entrees. Polenta, green bean salad, fennel salad, crostini and the focaccia. Everything was delicious and fresh . Fresh is in parenthesis because the young lady who was waiting on us used that description for almost every dish she explained. Although the dishes are pretty self explanatory. Our finished drinks stayed on the table a little too long and she never came back to ask if we wanted anything else to drink. So we flag her and order wine. We get our mains but still no wine. She finally comes with glasses and the bottle. And then proceeds to disappear with the bottle. We ask another staff member where the wine is because our mains are getting cold . She proceeds to return with an opened bottle of wine and no cork ??? She was making sure it was good. Euh no you open the bottle in front of me when I ask she told me that this is how sommeliers do it not to disturb the guests at the table. She has worked in a Michelin star restaurant and that s how it s done. Well I didn t share with her because it s not necessary but amongst the four of us we are well traveled and have done a few restos here and abroad, starred and not and no. You open the bottle where the guest can see you. You don t want to trouble? you do it in retreat but not where I can t see you. Anyhoo. This post has gone on enough. All is all food was really really worth it. Service staff was very friendly and smiling but this one girl although very sweet lost a lot of points with saying fresh 12 too many times and hiding to open our wine. Would go back

This has to be the worst food I had in Montreal, someone needs to explain to the chef that although Italians cook with olive oil they shouldnt drench everything in it. The quality of ingredients is too low, the meat was one of the worst Ive ever tasted , the taste is forced on everything and inexistant, the texture is left to chance and the olive oil is out of control Its sad because the servers are some of the best in the business although of no fault of their own the food took wayyyy too long. The decoration is cheap, the location is wrong (wedged between a construction site and a home depot) and the whole concept is just not it!! Plus its not cheap For some reason its full of people, which makes the atmosphere better , maybe for a drink as the bartender made my kid a great virgin cocktail which why the food gets 1 star, would be 0 or below otherwise Save your money, come here for a drink only or go elsewhere if you wanna eat

The focaccia is unlike any Ive ever tried. For that alone Id give four stars. The beef was unfortunately on the tougher side, and the salad felt experimental, though Im willing to concede the other menu items or on a different night it may have been better. For us it was a bit confusing since the server came over and was borderline indignant that we didnt already know the menu, saying didnt someone else already come over here? Aside from that the atmosphere was refined, yet comfortable. I look forward to going back in the summer months.

Dim lights but not too dim, good music, great staff. The food is outstanding! Tried beef/pork arrosticini (which are very specific to the Abruzzo region in Italy which not many people know about!!) the half tuscan chicken, very crispy roasted potatoes, fried cod crochettes, fluffy focaccia and buccatini with breadcrumbs. The food was good but nothing beyond that I m honestly pretty surprised at all the rave reviews. Nothing wow ed us at all. The lamb skewers and olives were the best things we had, the pici pasta was very plain/simple but in a way that left a lot to be desired. The polenta fritters were good, but I expected everything to feel a lot more Elevated? The desserts were just okay. It didn t leave me wanting more, or with a desire to go back. You can get WAY better food at other local St-Henri spots at the same price point. I will note that the service was excellent and the wine suggestion was delicious. The restaurant is cute and has a nice ambiance so I would go back for wine/drinks. One big issue was that we were seated against the back wall and there was a terrible draft coming up from behind the seat that left us absolutely freezing! It s hard to enjoy food/drinks when an icy draft is hitting your back

Great food and our waiter was excellent with top notch wine recommendations. The razor clams were a real standout. The pasta, while good, was a little cold when it came to the table. My only other complaint is that the table they sat us at was definitely too tight for 6 people and uncomfortable as a result.

We went as a large group and the waiter suggested a set menu at $75 per person. That made things super easy and the selections were on point. We all left *very* full and happy. Excellent value for money! All the food was delicious but the skewers and asparagus and green spicy pasta (no idea what its actually called but wow) were the winners. Wine suggestions were great and the service was attentive and friendly. What a place.

First time to this restaurant and the experience was just OK. The menu was interesting, but the food has almost too many intense flavours - there is not subtlety to anything. Everything is just full of salt, pepper, oil, herbs, spices, lemon etc. - all at once! Even the side green salad had so many different flavours that it was hard to eat. Also, the presentation leaves a lot to be desired as the dishes are served on ridiculously small plates. The service, however, was great - very attentive.

First time at Gias and the whole experience was incredible. We ate at the bar which was actually nice, although it can get busy when orders come in but it doesnt last too long. Youre closer to the staff. They kindly explained how the meals work (arrosticini, antipasti, primi, secondi), gave recommendations and what the specials are. The meals are meant to be shared, the portions were just right and then some for two people. Food was delicious and I got good wine recommendations according to my taste. We finished the meal with a dessert but the one hiccup was the gelato flavor that came with the blueberry crostada. It was sweet clove and honey, it did not pair well. The flavors were all over the place. I would have preferred a vanilla bean or something as simple. But it didnt affect our overall experience, we had a great night. Drinks: Aqua di Gia, Moscato, Beer Arrosticini : lamb skewers Antipasti: fritti di polenta, stuffed zucchini with ricotta cheese (and fried!!!) Pasta: tagliatelle with Chanterelles mushrooms and pancetta Alla grigliata: omble chevalier (Arctic char) Desserts: zuppa inglese with strawberry and rhubarb, blueberry crostada with sweet clove and honey gelato

I absolutely loved Gia. For me, the vibe is almost as important as the food and this place exceeded my expectations. I unfortunately didn t get to sit on the terrace ( so pretty) but I had such amazing service sitting at the bar last night that im glad I stayed indoors. Location: most random area ever. But who cares cuz the inside of the resto is so darn cute. Also there s parking. So Win Win! Vibe: super wonderful. People are so laid back, you can dress up and you can dress down. I m so excited to say you can actually carry a conversation without losing your voice by the end of the night. Sure you have to lean over a bit to hear each other but it s just certainly more romantical that way Value $: super worth it. Food: oh gosh where to start. In a nutshell I was hoping to dislike something so I won t feel compelled to re order the same things next time I go but nope everything was great and I m gonna have to inni mini miney mo it. Eggplant entree (not on menu) whoa la. Foccacia: yummy and fresh lamb arrostini: my only issue with this is it s almost mean how there wasn t enough on the stick. Biggest tease of life. Dramatic but I can t get over how GOOD this tasted. But adding an extra ounce on a stick wouldn t hurt. Please. Cuz it s really. Really. Really. Good. Pomme frite: um hello hi. They were so good that u don t even need any sauce Bucattini: the bread crumbs and the bucatini mixed together made such deliciousness. How do you expect me not to re order this? Anyway. Long story short. Super freaking good. Just go and eat there. .

We had really great service, the waiter allowed us to taste a few wines to find one of our liking and was patient, knowledgeable, and polite and we enjoyed our time there but each dish we received just felt like it was okay. It was still good, but also just okay. Compared to other similarly priced restaurants serving up Italian fare (even its sister restaurant), it couldnt compete. For the price of cocktails (~20 each) and the food, I would have expected a better meal. Ill say that if the food had been maybe 10-15% less expensive I would not feel the same. If your mains are 30+ then I expect a cut above not something I could prepare myself. I am a big fan of the brand & Elena but in my experience for a similar price Id rather go to Elena. I would go back but if the food next time was not much better, that would probably be my last time there.

The food was great, but the overall service and experience were horrendous.

December 23, 2023

Another Montreal hipster/DINK joint coasting on the great Montreal food scene to deliver tiny portions with snobby and rude service. Food was ok. The sommelier seemed annoyed with us for just being there. He was short tempered and rude, even condescending. He started off serving one of us a Paloma, but without tequila or grapefruit. Lychees and syrup instead. And the old fashions were watered down. Our waiter cut us off several times as we had questions while he was describing the menu, telling us to wait for him to finish. He even described the fish as fished from THE First Nation . When I asked which First Nation, crickets ..if you want to highlight the fact that you source your fish from indigenous fisherman, have the wherewithal and respect to actually know which one instead of virtue signalling. And he couldn t even geographically locate the Abruzzes, the region from which the cuisine is supposed to be inspired . a woman waitress took over after for a while and was pleasant and a welcome relief. And then he returned, seemingly frustrated and clanking bottles he was presenting. The wine suggestions were amateur at best. His rudeness continued. Until the bill arrived, then he was suddenly nice. Our table of 4 spent 600$ before tip. To be fair, the food was good. The pasta dishes were well prepared and the quality of the meat was very good. However, if you order a lot of food, they bring it out in large batches, not a dish at a time. And you can make the best food in the world, if your service staff are highly unpleasant, the food becomes an afterthought. Overpriced and all hype-no soul. Unless you need to post an instagram photo of yourself in a renovated garage in an industrial setting so you can brag on social media about how cool you are, save yourself a disappointing evening and go somewhere else where the staff might actually pretend to be happy to have you, know what they do, and the food/wine/service will actually deserve your patronage.

I recently dined at Gia in Montreal and I love the experience. The simple and refined decor caught my attention. And the aroma wafting through the air as you enter? Absolutely inviting. A huge perk was the accessible parking, which made the visit hassle-free. Now, lets talk about the food. It was fresh, portion sizes were just right, and the flavors were spot on. Theyve managed to strike a perfect balance - the food wasnt overly fatty or salty, which is a big win in my book. The only downside was the service speed. It was a bit on the slower side. Despite this, Im definitely planning to go back. Gia has something special going on, and I m looking forward to my next meal there!

December 23, 2023

This place is bad! The servers are excellent and kind but man the food couldn t be more lacklustre. I love to eat out and do so often. For this price point I was incredibly unimpressed. I had friends coming into town and thought it would be nice to bring them here since I live close thus no one would have to be the designated driver but damn was I mistaken. We should ve gone any where else. The appetizer were unoriginal and uninspired (fish croquettes, fennel salad & veal tartar). The mains were overpriced and uneventful (contrefilet, tagliatelle and bucatini ragù). The pasta, well under aldante and little else going for them. I was honestly mortified I brought my guests here. If I want decent food I ll continue going to tuck shop and Knox tavern where I d be happy to spend 350$

Been at this restaurant a couple times over the last few weeks. Not cheap but we knew that. Only detail is no bread unless you order it. I mean but can get over that. Good wine list, interesting menu with flavors that stand out. The server though has no personality, kinda tries to oversell and keeps interrupting conversations without much subtlety. Plates are removed as fast as they re empty, they want you to go on to the next service, creating a sense of urgency. They do want to get you out of there on the 2 hour limit. It s different for everyone, I guess, but for me, managing the clock and being steered takes away too much of the enjoyment of a nice evening. To the owner: enjoy the ride while it lasts, but this is not how you build a lasting clientele. Parking: Pretty easy.
