2026 Wellington St, Montreal, Quebec H3K 1W5, Canada
Relaxed & unadorned Jamaican eatery dishing out jerk chicken, plantains, wraps & beef patties.
No flavour in the goat roti, no salt. Disappointed
I don't know if they look at their reviews but this is my 3rd time coming to Boom J's restaurant on Willington street and this is my 1st time being so dissappointed. I will never drive 45min for a plate there again. Food doesnt taste great like before..chicken doesnt taste like jerk, it taste like regular seasoned chicken and the portion for the price ia ridiculous. Portion is alot more smaller than before for a large and they charge way more for a plate. The thing that makes me take this decision, I found a stapler pin in my 6 year olds chicken. Good thing he said he was full and I ended up seeing it on his chicken. It is dangerous. I will be looking for another jerk chicken place to go to as I am disappointed. Never again!
It's been a long time I wanted to try this restaurant. I paid 19.65$ for the chicken BBQ meal. I was disappointed on the portion of the plate. Food is getting expensive I understand but in comparison with other restaurants this was smaller and not even packed...fairly enough to say the BBQ chicken , which was 2 legs , was very tasty , crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The BBQ sauce was very good, the rice however was fad...no taste just plain rice and peas. I had to mix it with the BBQ sauce and coleslaw salad to give it some flare. The sweet plantains was normal. As for the place. The decor was vibrant but There was alot of flies inside the place . I'm.sad to see a Caribbean restaurant like that honestly. I hope that they will make a little change .
Drove in from Toronto, googled Jamaican restaurant and called a few to make sure it was Jamaicans cooking. Decided to go with this restaurant, worse mistake ever! I got water- down dried out curried-ish chicken with overnight looking white rice. Knock off jerk chicken with fake spices claiming to be authentic Jamaican sauce. Even the look and smell of the food is fake! Peas and rice("Rice and peas") tasted fresh and burnt! No Eskellion, thyme, scotch bonnet ect, was no where to be found when tasted it. I wouldn't even start on the curried goat, colour is off , undercooked and tasted like Bison meat( the animal). I wouldn't even give the food to the homeless on the street! IT WAS HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!! 🤢😡😡😡😡😡😠😠😠 The young lady at the front was very pleasant.
My first time going to Boom Js and I absolutely loved it. The girl that took my order was very nice and helpful. The food lived up to what I heard. I ordered a jerk chicken plate with 2 patties and a mango/passion fruit juice. The rice was tasteful, the jerk chicken was delicious. I also really enjoyed the juice. The plate had a very generous portion, enough for 2 to eat very well. I definitely would recommend to anyone that is craving an authentic Jamaican jerk chicken! Salute to the chef!!!
I thought it was pretty good, but the fact they serve the chicken undercooked without knowing is very concerning. They didn’t even apologize when I showed it them, like it was my fault or something. Ppl can get very sick and they don’t seem worried at all when I showed him the raw chicken.
I'm hooked on their jerk chicken. I didn't believe chicken can taste this good. The plantain was sweet, but the riz had no taste and was dry. The chicken patties aren't good FYI. The place is small, it's not a high end place.
My first time to enjoy Jamaica food. The restaurant is small and it seems to focus on delivery dish instead of dining in. Anyway I enjoyed my meal inside the restaurant and was really satisfied with the food. Notably, the employee kindly allow me to order portion of chicken and fish so I can taste both chicken and fish with friendly price. The chicken is amazing. It tastes sweet at the first bite and spicy flavor comes later. What a rich flavor. The fish is also a surprise. The fish is similar to the one in my hometown. The fish is compact. The rice mixed with some unknown sauce is also flavory. In addition, the Jamaica local juice tastes sweet and fresh. Good meal and good price.
Had their goat roti and oxtail with rice and peas meals. I m Caribbean. This food might look ok but it is NOT what traditional goat roti and oxtails with rice and peas taste like. Period. 1. When cooked, oxtails should not be red in color. Seems as if you used a tomato based recipe. And it tasted nothing like traditional Jamaican oxtails meal. 2. Goat roti where s the curry taste!?!? I m sorry but I will never eat from here again.
Very good jerk chicken and Rotis.
BEST JAMAICAN FOOD IVE EVER HAD COME HERE YOU WILL LOVE THE TASTE OF THE OXTAIL HITTING YOUR GUSTATIVE PALETS !!!! BEST CHICKEN IN TOWN !!!! CURRY GOAT HELLA GOATED SERVICE AMAZING AS WELL AMAZING LADY AT THE COUNTER LOVE
Rude
The jerk chicken was good and wifey loved the coleslaw. Would recommend some updated decor to improve the impression of the place.
Amazing resto Great people Fantastic food Food : 5/5
Absolutely love these guys. They catered our engagement party of 70 people with ease and everyone LOVED the food! Such amazing service and food and above all, they re great people. Thank you so much for exceeding our expectations and making our party that much better!
Really gives a chill sense of homemade food
Oxtails used to be so good, I could say they were the best in town, but now theyve lost their magic sauce. They havent tasted the same for almost two years. I dont like them now, and it makes me sad Also meat isnt well done there more fat and undercooked parts than the well-simmered meat it used to be :(
Travelled 1.5 hour to come eat Here arrived 4pm Thursday signs say open lights on inside door is locked and no one answering the phone waited an extra 20 minutes for nothing thank you
Very nice place and well located! Food is really good.
Not what it would to be :(
Pretty meh, the jerk chicken wasn t too spicy or flavorful. The plantains were way to sweat. And that price for portion ratio is awful.
Improvement on the service and environment has improved alot since last visit.great food.
My Fav west indian rest always on point! Jerk Chicken Oxtail Food : 5/5 |
Absolutely fireeee
If you want some Jamaican food go see Boom Js Cuisine. The food was hella good. Tasty with a lot of flavour and spices. The jerk chicken was amazing and the rice was a pure délice. They definitely know how to cook ! If you want some Jamaican food this place is the place to go !! I do recommend this place 120% and more !!
Amazing food! Vegetarian options: Vegies Food : 5/5 |
Disgusting
Food was dangerously unsafe(large, sharp bones in food). Beef patty was good and had 99% less jagged bones.
Best jerk chicken in the city. The owner is a true Inspiration to opening your own business
Scary place and neighborhood glad my husband was with me. The cashier is a doll and can handle her own. She makes it worth going. Calming effect on everyone. The food is superb. Good size portions flavour on flavour!
I walk in. I stood at the counter for a few minutes waiting for anyone to notice me. After a while I just gave up and left. Never got any service. Oh well.
The jerk chicken and patties are outstanding.
Really good patties I have bought from them at twice and I have enjoyed it thoroughly each and every time, I would definitely recommend if you re looking for a place to eat patties in MTL
I ordered from this place on DoorDash. We got 2 different oxtails orders, one with white rice and one with rice and peas but we both received the same rice. I also asked for one with salad and one with coleslaw and did not receive either AND there was NO plantains. The Oxtail was all bone there was maybe 5 bites of meat on the plate total and it was tender but the flavour was a 2/10.
Atrocious food and service. The guy somehow thought I ordered five fish (I ordered fried fish), and got angry at me when he realized his mistake. Then an Ubereats worker came to pick up an order, and the same guy started yelling at him to learn English. The food (oxtail plate and fried fish) was 90% bones. I also ordered some beef patties that another guy handled sloppily with his bare hands. I wish Id just walked out and left my order on the counter.
Food was majority bones (not worth the price for so little meat), service was unbelievably rude. The atmosphere of the restaurant was unclean and dingy.
The atmosphere is that of a Jamaican chicken place..The food is unbelievably tasty. Best Jerk chicken I ve ever had!!!
Jerked chicken rotti is still my favorite here. Been coming here for 5 years and I have to say, quality is consistent! (Beware for those who are afraid of shards of bones in their meal... Its the hasard for ordering delicious $12 jerked chicken rotti)
Asked for jerk wings got regular fried wings with 0 sauce....
Burnt chicken BBQ on fire cigarette ashes on the chicken horrible awfully good luck to much smoke on wellington street .and not to sanitary got some food got sick as a dog wont be buying any thing else there good luck
Underwhelming experience We felt cheated on in the portions, among our large order, We asked for large oxtail platters in which to our surprise looks like the regular size. Two out if those platters had also barely any oxtail in it mainly potato and carrot. The pineapple chicken portions were good. The food taste wise was fine. Just wont be ordering back here for oxtail. Portion and taste wise for that Id rather go elsewhere. We also purchased beef patties, in which we enjoyed far more than the oxtail.
Finally a place to enjoy some ...off the hook ...Jamaican food..
Closed at 930
It was good but you would have to add more quantities for a size L ;)
What happened to boom jay s use to be one of my fav stop the service was horrible and I had to wait till the cashier was done with her videos before she served me and I was clearly bothering her lol even ask her if it was better for me to leave and then she got mad at me for doing her job Jermaine plz check on your employees and the food quality
Great authentic Jamaican food . Cooked throughout the day. Always fresh. Generous portions for what you pay.
Ordered chicken roti and veggie patty 3x from uber eats. 5 stars each time. My suggestion is to add rice and peas as a side dish to your menu. If its already there it needs to be easier to find or it needs to be suggested before I check out. Thanks Boom J!
I went to get food from this place about 45 minutes before they closed in February and I was not happy with the service AT ALL! I entered the restaurant and was pretyy tu much ignored for a few minutes and then I order a a small jerk chicken plate. I was made to feel like I was interrupting the closing routine and they seemed annoyed I was there. I waited about 15-minutes to get the plate and I saw them in the pack touching the Jerk Chicken with their bare hands, no gloves and I didn t see the wash their hands either. I was shocked so I took the food, paid and left but hand no intentions of eating it. I emailed the restaurant that night and this was almost 2 months ago letting them know what happened and still no reply. I guess I was bothering them by sending an email about the unsanitary habits of their employees putting their hands all over my food. Seriously do better and I am all for supporting small businesses but not if my concerns will be ignored.
I opted for the Jerk Chicken in extra size, it was very filling but the taste disappointed me.. its good but I dont get the taste of Jerk as we eat it in Jamaica. It nevertheless remains a good address
The food they served us definitely wasn t Jamaican food. The jerk tasted like it was made with spices you d find in some Indian dishes. It wasn t good or authentic. The service was horrible and we were short changed. When we complained the cashier started arguing with us although we showed him a receipt. He snatched the receipt and refused to give it back to us, until a few of the other customers intervened. We then walked out with customers refusing to order because the customer service was horrible.
Too expensive for the quantity or quality of the food. The rice is dry, no sauce and the meat too.
The curry chicken was a little under seasoned. I m of Caribbean descent and look forward to more flavor. Salt helped as it was fine to begin with just not delicious. I asked for passion fruit juice and received mango. It was delicious but I had a taste for passion. Big portions.
This was my favourite place when I moved here 3 years ago but in the last year they have really succumbed to shrinkflation like many other restaurants. Food quality has gone down, serving size gone down, jerk chicken is not spiced, rice is dry, they only give one slice of plantain in a combo, and price has increased about 30-40% depending on the dish. I wouldn t mind the higher price point if the quality was still there. I miss the old Boom Js.
Jerk chicken, plantain and rice are amazing. The rum cake was good as well but a bit dry on the thick part of the cake. 5/5 for the price: Jamaican Patty, Large Jerk chicken (includes 2 legs) and a slice of cake for $35 taxes included!
I used to love this place. Anytime weve ordered over the last few years they get at least one thing wrong (as in not what we ordered). The roti is super inconsistent; today it was awful, last time it wasnt what I ordered and I couldnt eat it. There are way better and more consistent options in town. Sorry J, no more chances.
Ive always found quality inconsistent, sometimes the foods good, sometimes not at all (talking about rotis here). But my husband loves it and tends to forgive the mishaps over time. So for his bday we order via Uber. He is vegetarian and wanted to get a box of frozen veggie patties as well. Well, we received the beef ones and the guy over the phone told us to bring them back if we want to exchange. We live far, if we could just pop in we wouldnt Uber and pay delivery and service fees. Of course its just not worth it to drive there late in the evening bc of something thats the restos fault. Whats funny, its the 2nd time the exact thing happened. And on another occasion he got a fish roti instead of a veggie one (how? why?) We should have learned from it + food inconsistency before, guess we will now
Great place, curry goat and oxtail are one of the best in Montreal
I ve been ordering since before they were established price good. Services is going down a bit. Food is changing. After today I m not sure I ll be re-ordering.
I ordered stew beef -some of the beef was burnt. Everything else was good.
We got there late and everything was microwaved, tasted like last weeks dinner. Patties are cafeteria grade, most likely store bought and the employee was pretty rude. Nothing to make me wanna give it a 2nd chance
Vegetarian options: Veg option is not really good Food
Jerk was good and the plates are good sized and reasonably priced. Just wish they had more Seating indoor Food
The best food! A meal that will heal you!!! Theres no need to go at any other restaurant.
Absolutely love this place !!
Honestly, the stew chicken has no flavour and the jerk sauce is terrible! Maybe the jerk chicken would taste better without the sauce? Iunno .. it just wasn t for me. it seems like they cater more to yt ppl . It also didn t taste fresh .
Flavorsome dishes for all
Very good! I had the oxtail and it was really tender, with lots of flavor. A treat!
Fantastic Jamaican food. Boom for real!
Nice little spot in the hood. Good Jamaican food.
Straight up taste of Jamaica right around the corner
The best jerk chicken in the Montreal area. Tasty jerk chicken .
2nd best roast in town (with beef) 1st remains unbeatable curry house on Victoria (a little spicier but very different at the same time) In short 5 stars well deserved it was delicious
I ordered the goat roti which came with a small container of salad. It was delicious the first time but the second time I ordered I only ate half of it because I wanted to save it for later. After 30 minutes or so, I experienced stomach pain and it was diarrhea. I wasnt sure if it was the roti. But after a couple hours of feeling better, I tried the half roti i saved earlier and the same symptoms started again....I am usually clean and I always hand wash.
Reallly good curried goat. No dry. Not tough. Rice was perfect also...not dry! (not too salty...that was appreciated). The large was so large...It was 2 meals 2 minutes drive from the Costco. Easy street parking.
Excellent service with a smile, always! Food is on point, very delicious! A must try!
I Love this place! A true Caribbean home taste in every bite. Definitely will return to try their pineapple chicken. The soursop juice OMG, delicious. Service 10, Food 10
Jerk chicken is really good! And its good portions. Large is enough for 2!
Small, cramped place with a few bar stools for seating and some odd looking storage thats visible from the waiting area. I ordered the oxtails and curry goat. The meat was very tough. The rice was undercooked, scorched and dry. The portions are big but the food is terrible! Dont waste your time!
Great food, generous portions, and fair prices. The jerk chicken is amazingly flavorful and the oxtail is even better the next day!
Excellent restaurant, we are lucky to have you at La Pointe! The fruit juices are very good. We had jerk chicken and wrap and we enjoyed ourselves! THANKS
Good after-ride meal!
The food was good enough. However, I have to say I was a bit disappointed. It did not taste like authentic Jamaican food. I got the curried goat, and the potatoes had just been chopped in two. The plantains were also fried crisp. I tried a patty as well in order to decide if I would buy a box of 25 to go, but it was not tasty at all. It was really dry and the filling was...questionable.
Jerk chick taste good
Always delicious food! Jerk chicken and Curry Goat are on point. The service was super fast as well!
The ordering process was a little messy, BUT the food was very flavourful and filling. Good portion size with a good amount of meat, rice & beans, slaw and plantains. The chicken patty was also really good and was huge. Everything was a good deal for your money and you ll definitely get a satisfying meal! One of the best Jamaican food places in Montreal! One of the chefs was also smoking their meats outside the store which added to the atmosphere. When I got off the bus, I smelt really good barbecue and as I walked closer to the store, I realised it was Boom J s. Amazing
Good but basic
What can I say...but AMAZING. Food always fresh, always on time, always flavorful, always served with a smile, to perfection and the Owner is the coolest guy I know. Its a MUST, go and check them out. Eat and be Merry
Burt and not a Roti service was really bad and long Did not finish the meal we went for pizza Food : 1/5
Nice people, nice good for a nice moment !!
The meat and plantains were good, but the rice was really mushy and flavorless.
Oxtail is one the most expensive meals on the menu, I got two orange coloured oxtail & a whole a lot watered down sauce and carrots. For the price & the expectation of Boom J s they should be embarrassed to say you serve some Caribbean cuisine. They juice though 10/10
Dear Boom J What An amazing jerk wrap I had!!!! Very satisfying and delicious Food
A must stop, for delicious Caribbean food!
Good food. But a bit on the dry side. Chicken was undercook.
Had the Herkimer chicken did not taste good at all
This is not the same place as before Covid. Its totally different taste totally different. I dont know if it was sold or not but its not the same the oxtail that I order its not that dark brown gravy. Its really a light brown. It has no Jamaican authentic flavor whatsoever. The rice and peas were also not good and Im just giving it a zero out of 10 I couldnt even finish it. The ox tails were mostly bone very little meat on the rocks to just overall disappointed. I will not be returning its just not the same..
Best Caribe food in the city
(counter could be cleaned) but apart from that, its okay
I was in the Stade Olympique and i wait for receive my food two hours. The restaurant doesnt give us ans patties or drink for the fact that we waiting so long. When I receive my food it was so Cold and they cute the chicken in small pieces. I receive like a spoon of chicken. I regret to waiting so long for this food. Anybody deserve a treatment like that.
Take out takes long food is good and so is the service
To take away
Total lack of professionalism. They canceled my order at 7:50 p.m. (closes at 8:30 p.m.) even though I had ordered at 7:00 p.m. Lesson to learn, the restaurant closes at 8:30 p.m. but from 7:00 p.m. they no longer work.
So tasty!
Boom Js Cuisine cooks absolutely amazing food and unlike a lot of restaurants out there boom Js actually pays attention to there customers and there dietary needs
Changed from a previous 3 star review noting that the restaurant was very inconsistent with food quality. I take that back, Ive continued ordering and havnt received a bad meal in a while. They definitely listened to customers and upped their game. Some of the cheapest and best food you can find around. I typically have the Jerk Chicken, however I tried the beef stew and it was incredible. kudos to you guys
I have to change my glowing review from three years ago. I dont know what happened but this is NOT the Boom Js I have been ordering since it opened. Crunchy rice, tough beef, different sauce, all add up to disappointment. Wife ordered oxtail and got 2 pieces of meat. Prices went up plus its no longer tax included which drives the price up another 15%. The price goes up and the quality goes down. The hallmark of a business that stopped caring for its loyal long time customers. Maybe opening a second location wasnt the best idea? I am changing my 5 star review to a 2 star review. Cmon Jermaine! Step it up man!
We came from Toronto and The images online of the Ackee and saltfish are not the same in-person! The ackee and saltfish was brought out the kitchen from being frozen in a bucket and put in the hot table as though it was made fresh. I was not impressed. My boyfriend and I decided to not get anything because we were so appalled (Ackee n saltfish should be made fresh, it is one of the fastest dish to make) We will not be returning ever!
Like most recent reviews, patties are hard and service is slow. It was much better when it originally opened years ago
The food was very hot. The customer service was impeccable. Some renovations should be considered in the restaurant... but overall you can really feel the Jamaican culture in the food.
Great food for takeout, nit a sit down place
Them jamaïcan patties (but i add mayo over it)
Amazing jamaïcain food in Montreal on Wellington street
I love going to this restaurant because the food is sublime and exquisite. On the other hand, I did not at all appreciate the last welcome received by the cashier, no smile, no kindness, we should be served by Jamaicans, they are much more cheerful, friendly and know their products. I didnt like the cold atmosphere. Im not going to stop myself from going back there since in Montreal, there are, in my opinion, only two places where Jamaican food is excellent. I lived in Jamaica, I know what Im talking about. Thanks to the excellent cook!
The food was good. Im West Indian myself and I was expecting more spice in their jerk chicken and in the oxtail. Im not really a fan of their rice but I love their Jamaican pasta and the possibility of buying boxes of frozen pasta.
The food at this restaurant is by far the worst food I have ever tasted. The attendant at the cash was very pleasant and accommodating, the bathroom was half decent but the food was really awful. Food
My whats going on Boom Js?? Both of our dishes were simply horrible! We were sick for 2 days. Not edible, very very bad experience, I have never had that in my life.
Try the jerk chicken.
Food was on point, service was a little average as I had repeat my order a few times (1 jerk chicken and 3 patties) and the person at the counter almost forgot 3/4 of my order until I reminded him.
Rice: I feel like Im eating clove by the spoon. Thats ALL it taste. Chicken: well cooked, but dry. Barely any taste Theres 2 things that wants to be called plantin in there, but it simply should not exist. No sauce, no nothing. Everything is just very dry. The chicken pate was VERY good tho, but still very little chicken and way too much pastry.
Saying for di jerk chiken I already taste better,
Jermaine is amazing. I requested a special order for Thanksgiving and he was so accommodating.
The jerk chicken is amazing
Best toasts
Food was good, the atmosphere was a bit awkward cause it was so quiet. No music playing.
best JAMAICAN FOOD IN TOWN
The jerk sauce is delicious. The Roti are really good, although the English translation is not Roasted lol. Plantain A+, Rice B-. Solid Caribbean food!
Whoever made chicken stew today is a pro. Love it
Plantains, on point! Pickled salad, on point! Rice and beans, on point! Jerk chicken, on point! Boom Js is well-rounded on all these points, which makes for a delectably satisfying Carribean meal every time!
Consistently the best jerk chicken in town, hands down!
Food is so good there ! I love the Curry chicken.
Generous portion, dishes well seasoned and delicious.
Their goat rotis are great. Not oily like some other places Ive had rotis. Little on the salty side but still excellent. Its the plantains that were horrible. They were like starchy and rubbery. They werent ripped before frying. I make them had home and wait till they are black before frying. I will order the rotis but skip the plantains.
I tried the Oxtail dish today and a beef pie. Wow excellent! Very good and generous meat. The sauce that comes with the pâté will definitely please spicy lovers! Very large selection of Soda.
I had the curry goat, it was so good I wish I could eat it everyday. The worker was nice too, very helpful and kind. Dishes and drinks were great. Food was made perfectly, wouldn t change a thing.
Boom Js is not just amazing tasting food but comunity presence and an outstanding catering service. Super punctual, kept piping hot and delivered with flexibility and grace. Love Boom Js!
Update 3/22 8 years we been calling Boom Js our jerk spot. 8 years, theyve never failed. Great platter of jerk and a bottle of Red Stripe, YUM. This place is always consistent, everytime you order, you can expect the same perfection. If youre in the area, go for a lunch special, super great value and great company. Mi luv yuh! Old review 2015 Get there early in the day while its hot & fresh.
Nice jerk chicken
Great flavor and perfect portions.
Nice
Boom Js is awesome.
Just had some of boom j s goat curry , stew beef , jerk chicken and fried plaintains . I can honestly say this is the best Caribbean food I have ever on the island of Montreal , delicious and the portions are good . Definitely will recommend this restaurant.
Boom Js never disappoints. Consistently our go to food in the Verdun area.
Delicious chicken
Grand opening for new location for Boom Js second location on 6244 Monk! Decor is on point with a cool new Jamaican vibe and authentic cuisine and fruits! This is the best Jerk chicken in town ... a Montréal must which is going to keep you coming back for MORE! Thank you for the fresh coconut juice straight from the coconut tree! Def a slice of heaven!!!
What happened to the patties? From wow to no comment. Come back to the old ones. Desperate to find that old awesome taste, texture and spice!
Food was amazing !! this completed our family trip to montreal. Thank you Boom J,s
Had the lamb curry. So flavorful and tasty!! We will for sure go back :)
To give a 3 or a 4? I would give it a 3.5 but felt generous. I had a boneless chicken roti here. I am trying to find an equivalent to the (IMO) legendary Island Foods version from Toronto. So my expectations are high. This is the closest Ive come to a tender flaky and tasty roti shell, with wet chicken inside... I mean its juicy and tasty and not just dry chicken and potato. It looked a mess and my heart sank a bit, but the taste of the roti did make me happy. Its not perfect, but its pretty good. One thing that made my heart sink a bit was the sound of the microwave being used to reheat my roti. Sigh. I guess low volume places have to resort to it, but its not a plus in my book. As for Boom Js itself, the place is low key and no frills. bar stool seating and a few tables in the corner. Its not going to be a place to bring a first date. Several steep stairs to enter the place makes this wheelchair inaccessible. Street parking only. New location in Ville Emard is now open. Great addition to Monk Blvd!
The slightly stupid cashier
Love this place. My favorite in the Point.
Just got a chicken boneless roti.. Real good. Seasoned perfectly. fulll of flavour
Crazy good jerk with crazy good people in there ! Thank you for the amazing meal and vibe ! I m now craving your chicken all the time !!!
No taste had goat roti first time and last will eat there no flavor no spice super bland taste ate everything because I was hungry had to put Sriracha to have a sense of the island.
Great food and service. We had roti and stew, both were tasty with lots of flavours.
I ll be coming back here for sure. I tried Boom J s for the first time right now and this food is incredible I couldn t wait to write a review. I can t believe I never tried this restaurant even though I passed it many times. My only criticism was the man in the front was not friendly, which is why I rated 4 stars. God bless the cook. I could tell the food was made with love.
The food is OK! The service SH*T! Having a black man serve a white lady who walked in after me - a black woman - was the last straw of disrespect, bad enough the food is Canadianized dare I say Jafaking it but you wanna throw up hands, dance and say don t worry about it. The last time you see me money, you worry about that. First come, first served. Period.
Really, really good.
The best service! Great food - so happy they opened a second location!
The jerk chicken and the oxtail plates were great! The boom juice is also a must try. Portions are generous. It tastes authentic and the employees add a nice vibe to the place. I will be back ! Next time I will have to try the Roti or the stewed goat!
Excellent dishes, the Jerk Chicken is the best I have eaten in Montreal!! The rice and plantains are very good too!!
jerky chicken with plantin and a good sick mango juice
The food here is so flavorful. They make the best coleslaw Ive ever eaten and Im old.
Plantains tasted so good.
Over the past few months, I have noticed that the service has unfortunately changed a lot for the worse. It was one of my best Jamaican restaurants, I went there every week, the service was excellent, the owner was always there with a smile, there were Indians who ran the place, I had placed an order on doordash, the order was not what I had asked for, I called the mr and he answered unpleasantly, without telling me we are DSL or anything it seemed like I was disturbing him, I came with the dishes pss from dsl again, its not professional, I say to myself its correct well let it go this time. Im coming back a second time, same thing, deplorable service, the usual dishes are generous, I was given pieces of chicken, I couldnt even say that these were pieces of chicken, they look like waste, just the skin, no meat , no salad, I tell myself okay next time I have to check. Ill come back later, the same thing. Frankly, I am very disappointed.
BEST CARIBBEAN FOOD IVE TASTED IN MONTREAL! Ive never been disappointed. Their goat roti is my favorite, but my husband loves the jerk chicken, and we both love that the owner cooks the chicken in his monster smoker on the sidewalk. Speaking of the owner, hes such a gem. Always pleasant, always ready with a smile no matter how busy they are. I just love this restaurant! I heard Rihanna ordered from here the last time she was in town (is it true? I dont know). Shes from Barbados, so if she liked it, how can you argue? Parking: You can park on one if the side streets, or if youre lucky you can score a spot right out front!
Definitely one of my favourite Jamaican restaurants in Montréal. Super polite staff, fast service and high quality food for an amazing price! Food is always fresh and incredibly flavourful. The Oxtail Plate, Jamaican Patties, Plantain, Roti and Champagne sodas are huge hits! Try this place ASAP!
Had the oxtail and ackee n saltfish. Its so good. Oxtail super tender . Definitely going back!
I go there often! It was one of the best Jamaican restaurants but the chicken leaves something to be desired, too grilled, the peppers are outdated. Since then there has been a change of owners. Its sad. Dont go there, youll be disappointed
I ve been going for years, overall I d say they re good but some items can be hit or miss. Their patties are amazing, their jerk chicken is pretty good and their home made hot sauce you can buy in a bottle is also amazing. Their rice and peas could be better and their curry goat is not very good. It lacks spice, flavour, tenderness and has zero spice (heat), I always end up adding extra massala if I m eating it at home. I must say if you get a large plate, the portion size is awesome and you ll be very full with left overs which is nice. I ll be back.
Good vibe, amazing food, reasonable prices and generous portions!
Ordered the jerk chicken but paid for yesterday s dry old chicken. I ve heard amazing reviews but first impression left me disappointed. I could barely cut the chicken it was so dry. Luck of the draw?
Too expensive not good. The rice is cheap and the meat is rare in the goat curry (2:1 bone to meat ratio). The chicken was okay, but the chilies were really gross and lukewarm. The two times I went there I really asked myself the question: is it really worth $16? Both times it was no, no its not worth $16.
The veggie roti was horrible, It tasted like it went bad and I think it had way too much tamarin. This spot used to be so good that I would drive from the east end. To make matters worse that day, they also ran out of veggie patties (from tastee). Atleast the plantain fries were good but not worth the drive and unfortunately they also changed their hot sauce reciepe
Food was ok. Liked the jerk chicken. They could have increased the size of the pack.
Roti ok but the vegetarian patty no good nothing in side really mad expensive for air
awesome place, but sometimes they get the order wrong.
Not edible full of bones!!
Full of bones!
Yummm! Generous (and delicious) jerk chicken portion and the rotis are amazing. Got some frozen patties for the week! Picnic table to eat out front! PS, the hot sauce is so good and spicy

yummy
Sooooo delicious!!!! We really loved our dishes, they were tasty and generous. Our favorite was the beef stew. On the other hand, the only negative point was that it was too salty. But otherwise it was perfect, well go back for sure. :) We recommend 100%
