I order delivery and they always write nice words on the bag, which makes me feel very special. Its obvious that this establishement is passionate about what they do. Came in for the first time and was greeted by very warm and welcoming service. Not only was the food excellently prepared, they are very generous with the portion size. Don t be intimidated by the prices as you will be leaving with full stomachs.

The greatest restaurant in Montreal. The quality of the food is absolutely incredible. We got the Aki course which ran us 150$ for two people, and let me tell you the sheer quantity and quality of what we were served would have cost us at least double anywhere else. The sashimi was incredible, the sushi was delicious, the tempura was perfect, the grilled fish was amazing as well. Its incredible just how much food they gave us, and it was more than worth every penny. In fact its comparable to prices you would see in Japan, which really blows my mind. To the point I dont understand how they make profit selling such high quality fish at that price. They also have inexpensive meal options which are also amazing in their own right. Just a wonderful restaurant and wonderful people. This restaurant is actually owned and ran by japanese people unlike most japanese restaurants in town. It is highly authentic and you can tell they put a lot of love and care into everything. I recommend going there multiple times. I also highly recommend the course meals; its an amazing experience.

Best Japanese food around!

Totally overrated and overpriced. Absolutely no idea why this restaurant would have such a high rating which is misleading. If you tried the authentic Japanese cuisine in Japan or in Asia but you are craving for real and quality Japanese food in Montreal, DO NOT COME or else you will be deeply disappointed like us. We really don t mind paying more for authentic and quality Japanese food, but the special dinner set we ordered for 2 was a huge disappointment. The food they served was actually a mix of korean and japanese cuisine. We were shocked when they served us kimchi. The quality of sashimi was lame. The portion of grilled fish was ridiculously small and it wasn t fresh and also over-grilled. And serving 1/8 size of a small orange as a dessert was a total joke. We understand that we gotta pay more for a cuisine which is far from its origin, but CAD100 per head for such lame Japanese set dinner is indeed a ripoff! And they need to hire at least one more person to serve the customers (of course they won t as the owner apparently is trying very hard to save the cost and maximise the profit given the overpriced low food quality.) We seated for at least 25 mins to wait for the menu and water. And then another 15 minutes just to wait for the 1/8 size of orange before we could leave. This expensive but disappointing dinner just ruined our evening. Shame on you who is running this restaurant and pity for those giving this restaurant high rating. Don t waste your money on this restaurant but fly to Japan to try the authentic quality Japanese food but 10 times cheaper for the same quality.

Amazing experience at Karin. The staff is so friendly and the food is delicious, so many different things to try. Some of our favorites: Yaki-udon, sashimi and the bibimbap. They were also very careful with my allergies. We will definitely return!

My wife and I had an amazing evening lasting 2 hours here. We had the Haru menu for two. We added an entrée of Okonomiyaki which was probably too much food but we did not regret. Our hostess was pleasant and welcoming. Even endulged us with our pitiful attempt to speak some Japanese. We wanted an authentic Japanese meal and I can honestly say it was fantastic. The decor is quaint and had cute Japanese stationary, baby shoes, dolls and other cute decor at the main entrance. The service was not overwhelming and each dish had authenticity we were looking for. Dessert was to die for and homemade. Sushi and tempora shrimp and vegetables was delicious. Practice eating with chopsticks beforehand to really feel like youre in a Japanese home. Going back for sure! We parked on a side street but plenty available on a Friday night on Queen Mary .

En plus d avoir des prix élevés pour une petite portion de karaage , il n était pas bien cuit et n avait aucun croustillant. Les takoyakis étaient beaucoup trop pâteux alors que j adore les takoyakis en général. La seule chose qui était correcte était les makis.

I placed a reservation some weeks ago and went there with a few friends for my birthday. The place was very nice and the staff was friendly. The ambience was cozy and relaxed and the food was fresh and tasty. We enjoyed our meal and time spent there.

One of the best authentic tasting ramen I ve had in the city. Very comforting vibe in the restaurant, super hospitable and friendly staff, definitely going back again.

Friendly and warm service..unfortunately, that s about it. The food is expensive for the portion served and tasteless. I tried the beef teriyaki and I could declare it was the worst teriyaki I ve eaten in my life. Tiny shreds of beef with no seasoning at all I had to ask for soy sauce just to give it some taste, no kidding. And to charge more than $30 is a total rip off. Save your money and go elsewhere because this place is overpriced and overrated for nothing.

Warm fresh food ,you musst have their TAKOYAKI . One of the best restaurant dishes I have ever had. Ambience is lovely there are lots of elements to give a feel of Japan. The lady who served us is very sweet, we will surely come back. The dishes may feel bit pricey but sure you will love them. Its a good place for a celebration I felt.

Went with a group of 9 people and we ended up tasting a significant portion of the menu, EVERYTHING was delicious! I cannot wait to go back again. Highly recommend it for those who want a taste of Japan in Montreal. The sushi was very high quality and I only wish I had tried more of it. If you are a larger group I suggest called ahead as space is limited!

Cute little restaurant owned by Japanese people serving great food. Had a wonderful evening here, dinner for three, the service was great and the food as well. The tempuras were very good, I recommend taking the 7pcs shrimps + 7 pcs vegetable. The portions were big, but I didnt feel bloated afterwards, was satisfied, and still had room for dessert : we took the gâteau damour (I recommend). I will come visit another time to try other dishes.

As a Japanese person, out of all the Japanese restaurants in Montreal, this is my favorite Japanese restaurant, where I can feel the most Japanese atmosphere.It is run by a Korean owner and a Japanese couple. Above all, this restaurant has a wonderful Japanese style interior created by the owners Japanese wife Ai, which is unique to this restaurant and unlike any other Japanese restaurant. Additionally, the mobile hanging from the ceiling inside the store was handmade from kimono cloth by the owners wifes mother in Japan. You can enjoy warm customer service and service from the owners wife who places great importance on conversation with customers, fresh sashimi, a rich Japanese menu, and authentic Korean cuisine from the owners native Korea. The menu inside the restaurant has a cute Japanese design by a Japanese graphic designer living in Montreal. In the summer, you can also sit on the terrace. I really recommend Karin restaurant.

It s simple, it s my favorite restaurant in Montreal. Everything is there: delicious food, attention to detail, charming and very welcoming owners, relaxed atmosphere while remaining very authentically Japanese. Typically Japanese menus, for 1, 2, 3 or 4, as well as individual choices, all very good. I loved this place! Vegetarian options: A whole menu for two for vegetarians.

Ai, the owner, and her family have created a beautiful atmosphere and serve perfectly cooked full of flavor dishes that guarantee you will eat too much every time cause you cant resist eating more I have come back multiple times with loved ones and everyone has fallen in love with Ai and with the food as much as I have - we just left and already we cant wait to go back!

For 30 years Karin has been our dining home away from home. This is a family restaurant where 3 generations - grandmother, son, sons wife, grandson - work together to make the meal experience as pleasurable as possible. Everything at Karin deserves a thumbs up. Their sashimi is always super fresh and generous. Their sushi is simply the best in town. Owner-chef David prepares every Japanese and Korean dish with a view to wow diners with delicious tastes. His okonomiyaki, dragon balls, tempura, gyoza, salt and grilled fish, chicken Karaage, ramen, udon, soba noodles and rice dishes are all excellent. Our favourite salads at Karins are the umami-packed kimchi and wakame both homemade from a secret family recipe handed down from Davids chef father. Cant wait to go back! Vegetarian options: Vegetarian tempura, tofu, rice, vegetarian noodles, vegetarian sushi are all on the menu. The salmon sashimi was delicious! We shared a plate of house sashimi (assorted salmon, tuna, yellowtail) with Alaska and Rock&Roll rolls and the portions were great. Super yummy and great/friendly service. Atmosphere was very cozy and warm. Open for 35 years, passed down through three generations and it s still amazing.

A month after coming to Montreal from Japan, I made a reservation with my family for my sons birthday. I ate a bento box for one person, a summer course meal, yakisoba, and miso ramen, and they were all very delicious. I would definitely like to go eat there again.

Very small sushi roll for the price (~1cm thick pieces). Not like the typical 3/4 thick pieces. $80 was not enough to feed 2 adults and 2 children.

So tasty ramen and unordinary desserts which also tasty (mocha cheese cake) so much quite and confidential atmosphere. I love such a restaurants. And it wasn t busy. Not so expensive. So I recommend this place!

The place is cute, the salmon was fresh. Besides, the wait was long, with only one person serving. The beef bulgogi was okay, but rather tasteless. The salmon rice bowl was satisfying. However, the chicken karaage was undercooked, and we both ended up feeling sick after the meal.

The food is simply excellent and everything was super fresh. The place has a unique charm and atmosphere, in addition to having efficient and customer-oriented service. I recommend this restaurant without hesitation and I cant wait to go back!

Best Japanese restaurant in Montreal! It s fresh, the flavors are authentic and the service is friendly. Prices are very reasonable considering the menu. Beware of people who take away a star because they find the prices expensive: the ingredients are top quality and the fish are delicious, carefully chosen by the chef at the fishmonger. Not sure its like this everywhere!

I went there with my family for my birthday. Its a cozy Japanese restaurant, we had the menu for 4 people (+1) and the portions were more than enough at least for us! The sashimi was fresh, the tempura tasty and the grilled saba fish was delicious! We couldnt finish the udon, we ate so much already!!! The service was impeccable, very polite and nice staff. Id gladly go back and highly recommend it for people to try especially if youre a fan of Japanese food!

Excellent experience. We took an assortment. Gyoza, agedashi tofu, takoyaki, ramen, donburi, sushi, everything was delicious. A delight for the senses. Exceptional service. Everything arrived on time. At our own pace. It was perfect. For a moment I was no longer in Montreal but in Japan. It was fabulous.

Arriving here by chance, I had the nice surprise of discovering an authentically Japanese place, the decor is superb and the food delicious! Everything is taken care of down to the detail, I highly recommend for fans of Asian cuisine!

Nice restaurant with very cute decor. The staff was Japanese which is nice to see around Montreal. They even have a little gift shop inside if you want to buy little Japanese trinkets, origami, chopsticks, snacks, etc. The food was good, but I think there are better places around for better food, especially at this price. We went in the beginning of the evening and the tuna was already sold out, which was a bit disappointing for us. The assorted sashimi was a nice mix of different fish, some nice big chunks but others were meager and thin. The maki that we ordered were really really thin though, to the point of falling apart (some were less than 1cm thick). The whole meal ran us (2 people) at just over $120 for 4 Maki orders, 20 piece sashimi, takoyaki, and a dessert. Overall Im happy I tried it and being in the cute restaurant was a nice bit of nostalgia for me, but ultimately the value wasnt there for me. Staff was very friendly and polite. Service was a bit lacking, with some forgotten items and then scarcely checking up on us.

I will be going back more often because my significant other loves it deeply also. Update: 2021 This is still an amazing authentic restaurant with the best experience you can imagine. The food is still maintained at a high level of quality. The service is still kind and generous. I am blessed and honoured to have found such a GEM in this city full of people in the restaurant business just for money and not for the passion of food and service. Karin restaurant is still very HIGH on my list of wonderful restaurants that I would gladly give higher X0% tips to. Thank you for being around.

The lady in frond desk was so nice that after getting my order for a customer, she gave me this sweet and soooooo delicious japanese desert. Not only that, she patiently describes what it is and how it is made. I dont know why I love so much Japanese people, theyre from another planet I think

Went there for the first time since it was recommended by a friend. It is very cozy inside, very friendly staff too, huge selection of Japanese sake !! Tried the platter set for 4, very good portion ! Would definitely recommend other people to try this hidden gems!!
