Welcome to Kyodai Izakaya, Osaka style Japanese restaurant bar in Montreal where authentic Japanese ambiance meets culinary excellence. Step into our cozy, traditional setting and indulge in an array of izakaya-style appetizers, from crispy tempura to savory udon and ramen bowls. Our bar boasts a curated selection of imported sakes and handcrafted cocktails, perfectly paired with our fresh sashimi varieties. Whether you're savoring the flavors of Japan or unwinding with friends, Kyodai Izakaya promises an unforgettable dining experience. TLDR: Authentic Japanese Food
Went in for the first time with some friends. Although the wait was a bit long (they were short-staffed), the food was good. Reasonably priced. Just not a big fan of the squid 🦑, so I may not get it again. I would have preferred it was more tender. Other than that, my friends loved their dish. I personally really like the korokke
My wife and I celebrated our 5 year marriage anniversary and absolutely loved this restaurant. We tried many dishes and loved every single one of them.
Kyodai Izakaya exceeded all my expectations with its impeccable service and mouthwatering dishes! A special shoutout to Eddy, who went above and beyond by accommodating us with a custom drink change. His attention to detail and warm hospitality truly stood out. The katsu chicken with curry rice was nothing short of divine. Every bite was pure ecstasy, perfectly cooked, and bursting with flavor. To top it off, they surprised me with a delightful green tea cake to celebrate my birthday, which was both thoughtful and utterly delicious. Kyodai Izakaya is a must-visit for anyone looking for exceptional Japanese cuisine paired with outstanding service. I’ll definitely be back!
Wonderful service from smiling individuals that clearly know their food is awesome. Like daaaamn! That katsu curry bowl was so tasty it healed my soul from the inside. 😌 Oh, and that mackerel appetizer was easily the best of its kind I've tasted in this city. The umaminess was off the charts! 📈 — Will definitely be returning to sample the full menu. 😋 This is also a great place to bring a date or have a chat with a friend. Music is tasteful yet not so loud you can't hear each other speak. (Other restos, take note!) ps: If you spend more than $25 before tax you can accumulate stamps towards free goodies like appetizers or a plushie of their logo.. cute!
Great evening at Tempura Kyodai. Pub style izakaya. Fun place to chill with your peeps, have savoury cocktail and down a whole lot of Japanese awesomeness. Service was great too.
This place is such a gem! The interior and the music created the perfect vibe✨ We only got to try the ramen, but I can’t complain. The broth was perfectly seasoned and the noodles were super chewy. This might just be my favourite ramen place!
Great hangout spot with amazing vibes! The service is amazing, and the decor resembles the japanese izakaya alleys. The food is good and affordable, and the menu has a ton of variety so there’s something for everyone. I recommend the engawa tataki, the kitsune udon, and the curry rice bowls. Disclaimer: my meal was comped, all opinions are my own.
This is a must-visit for authentic Japanese cuisine. The cozy atmosphere, delicious dishes like sashimi and yakitori, and a great selection of sake make it a standout. Friendly and attentive service adds to the overall excellent experience. Highly recommended!
We surprised our friend in that restaurant and we had an excellent experience. We were suppose to be 14, but 4 people couldn t make it. Eddie our waiter was so understanding of the situation and ask us the permission, so politely, to liberate one of the tables of four. He gave each everyone of us a personalized experience and suggested us some excellent options, especially for drinks. Our friends were even able to order some classic cocktails that were not on the menu. You ll have a great portion of some delicious food and the ambiance in there is great! Our friend (that we surprised) got even a cake that Eddie brought. Eddie will even remember you, even if you only went there once before, as he did for me:)
Eddie the best waiter. Thanks for the experience and excellent food I ll come again.
The experience was great! Eddie is a great host and was so welcoming. I loved the food and I ll go again very soon!
Exceptional service!! Our two servers were extremely attentive. They offered us cocktails, asking us our tastes and preferences and were very present for us despite the crowds. Very nice atmosphere for a small date.
Nice interior, but food was nothing special
Ramen not very tasty and very little meat
A real Japanese Isakaya! Delicious and original dishes, with the flavor as if we were in Japan I recommend
Very cosy and good food amen
This is the good service I have seen for a long time.
The food is excellent and the staff is very friendly.
Amazing !! The spicy tan tan is amazing ! Service is excellent and vibe is super cool :)
Staff was very friendly, food was even better! Will be back soon Food
Really good experience. Was really fun experience and delicious food. They have 3 flavour sojus and staff are friendly.
The atmosphere was really pleasant, very pleasant and respectful service! We chose the ramen! Truly, a delight! We will return there to try the sashimi and others for sure!
Food was really good
The food was amazing, got the food fast. Extremely good service. The owner was very nice :). I definitely recommend this beautiful restaurant <3
Very good restaurant. The ambiance is very nice, they play good music and the food is amazing. The food arrive quite quick which is perfect!
The food was amazing and the people are super sweet. Its a good place for a birthday dinner with some friends!
Very nice meal. The shrimp tempura was done exceptionally well. It was very plump and crispy. Coktails and moktails were also on point. The ambiance was great. The music level wasnt too loud and it was very easy to have a conversation.
I was the 100th customer at the restaurant and I would highly recommend this place! Atmosphere was amazing, service was phenomenal! Vibes was just amazing ! Everyone was just dope!
Excellent service. The food was amazing. Good selection of sake and very good cocktails
The atmosphere was wonderfully immaculate, the food was flavorful, and the staff were friendly, attentive and welcoming. Looking forward to visiting again!
Thank you Eddy for the amazing service! The food was excellent, the service was great, and the atmosphere was superb! The decor is super warm and inviting, the music was classic Jpop which I really enjoyed. Definitely coming back to try more dishes and some sake. Highly recommend!! Kid-friendliness: A friends daughter was with us, we asked for a glass of ice and they brought a little bucket. She was impressed and happy, thanks!!
Very nice busy spot amazing staff
Great shrimp! Huge
First, the music selection is great. If you like Miki Matsubara, Yurie Kokubu, or City Pop, youll be pleased. The vibe is great. We had the vegetable and shrimp tempura, the korokke, and takoyaki. The variety of vegetable tempura was great, but the size of the shrimp was the highlight; a very generous portion. The korokke had pleasant textures, and the light sauce was a nice touch. The takoyaki was tasty, but Id probably go for the karaage next time. The staff were also very friendly, and one was particularly goofy (the good kind). Definitely worth more visits.
We had the best cocktail ever, I ve never had anything like it before (it s the plum tremblant) with sake and jasmine green tea. Would definitely come back here just for that drink alone!!
So good! Ramen was delicious.
Excellent food, welcome staff, and a perfect vibe to just enjoy a great meal! House Sake hit the spot, hot OR cold.
Nice discovery, food was great and decor is well tought. Overall a good experience.
The service was above and beyond, the food was incredible, and the ambiance was very nice :)
Very good atmosphere, the servers were super friendly and their udon was really good and also their takoyaki.
By far, the best poutine ive ever hard in mtl
Excellent spot for a birthday! Great staff!
Great food and service. Super warm atmosphere. I loved the curry plate.
They updated the menu, and I ordered their Tan Tan noodles this time. Chashu is pretty good, its tender and juicy :) Will definitely come back and try other new stuffs too.
The servants were nice and friendly but the food was so bad. Udon was so bland like they forgot to add some salt. Donkatsu was so small and thin for $20. At the restaurant Katsuya, they give a much thicker and bigger donkatsu, salad and sauce for the same price. And please, when you need to clean a table next to clients, just spray the cleaner once on the table closely so that ppl dont have to smell that thing while eating. Shrimp tempura was good tho.
Great food and staff
Best Katsu Ive had in Montreal so far!! And great service too! Will be coming back for sure :) Food : 5/5
Best restaurant in Montreal!
Great izakaya
We went to Kyodai for our anniversary and loved it. First of all, the place is great, a relaxed and original decor with lots of Japanese and Anime accents. Magic! Then the staff are so nice, professional, funny. We were served by Yuyun, a young lady of Taiwanese origin who welcomed and served us so well. The dishes were so good: Japanese tavern classics (Takoyaki, Karaage, sashimi, Japanese pancake, tataki...). I highly recommend this place!!!
Such nice staff and cozy sexy ambiance
Very cozy, excellent service and very kind staff!
Great experience! The service is professional and pleasant, the atmosphere cozy and on theme. The dishes offered are authentic and of good quality with taste. Good value for money.
Absolutely delighted with Kyodai Izakaya. What a fabulous and inventive meal. Worked our way through the appetizers and one of the mains, the Unagi on Rice, was beyond delicious. Highly recommend. Service was spectacular. Didnt even bother with the menu.Eddie was the perfect host and went with what he loved. He was right. Everything was simply grand.
I took my granddaughter who was delighted with the meal. Very friendly staff and the food is excellent.
Thank you to Eddie for the friendly and welcoming service. Will definitely be back to explore more of the menu!
Excellent food and atmosphere. Had fun :)
Food was out of this world. I had the pork Katsu curry and it was fantastic. Dumplings and all these other appetizers I tasted were also really good. The only thing that was lacking was the cocktail menu. None of their drinks had descriptions, so you had no idea what was in them, and the staff had to go and check anytime we asked. Aside from beer and sake, that was all they had, which was a bit disappointing.
Food is amazing, I am a regular client ordering and went there to eat the place and it was really pleasant, staff is really nice, nice decoration and food good as always, super recommend.
I love this place!
Great food and amazing service.
favourite hang out spot
FAV HANGOUT SPOT! And amazing staff!
Love this place , love the takoyaki and katsu curry !!
INCREDIBLE!!! Loved everything about this izakaya. The menu has all your Japanese cravings but elevated. The atmosphere is cool, dark, and cozy. Perfect date spot. And service is phenomenal- thank you Eddie and Tae for your impeccable food recommendations and for making me and my partner feel so welcome!! What a gem! 1000/10
Quite disappointed with this restaurant, I dont recommend the ramen, basic taste and almost no toppings (vegetable or meat).
My ramen was missing some ingredients.
We came to this restaurant because the waiting list for the one next door was too long, but honestly, really not disappointed with the trip. Truly incredible atmosphere, very welcoming waiters, impeccable service, truly excellent food. Light and complete, rich and tasty. Absolutely worth visiting!!
We come from Quebec and we will not hesitate to return there!! Price, quality, quantity, variety and service are there it was a perfect experience and the flavors exceptional! Thank you Dietary restrictions: No nuts and peanuts, it s great for allergies!
Food was amazing and everyone was so nice
The food is exquisite, the staff is warm, the atmosphere is very Japanese-themed. Being a cook myself, I recommend this place
Just went there tonight to celebrate, it felt like we time traveled to a whole new place. If you want a place that carries the ambiance of Japan this is my absolute go to. Definitely recommend this for everyome.
Very good reasonable price pro service
Loved the sashimi and the unagi rice bowl here. We had such a lovely evening and the staff are very friendly :)
so yum yum
Very good food
very good thank hou
We walked past this place and decided to check it out because we loved the vibe. The food is delicious and the service is amazing!
YOMMAAYYY
Our first stop on our Montreal trip, service was superb, atmosphere is a vibe , food was astounding. Will definitely 100% recommend this place ! Curry chicken Katsu and the chicken karaage were our favourites
Good service, fresh food, great ambiance, and friendly staff. Everything that you can ask for from an Izakaya restaurant.
The food, ambience and service is just amazing!! Would highly recommend!
wow! amazing
The servers were so nice and the plum wine was delicious. We re definitely coming back for more
Best Japanese restaurant in Montreal food is too good and workers are super nice shoutout Eddie and taehyung
loved it
Eddie is the man
Love it everytime I go
Kyodai is an absolute gem! Every time I visit, Im greeted by the friendly staff who make you feel right at home. Their attention to detail is evident in both the food and the service. Every visit has been an amazing experience. Highly recommended!
Good level japanese music. Amazing staff with great recommendations. Lovely decore. Just go already! Food : 5/5
Amazing service
Eddie offered amazing service to us . The food was great too.
Great food and service. Real authentic japanese experience. Eddie served the food and was really friendly. I definitley recomend this place.
Small portions, karage too much breading, squid was too fishy (didnt seem fresh), and miso was the smallest serving (barely half cup, nonetheless a bowl-ful, comes in a cup!) Sashimi was small pieces too.
Good food, not so expensive, services is excellent, atmosphere is very Japanese tradition
This was excellent! Food was on point Japanese. Duck tataki is out of this world good. Curry and ramen both absolutely on point. Excellent imported plum wine. All the tapas style food was fantastic. Staff loves their job and it shows. They were able to whip up a delicious mocktail for my friend who doesn t drink without an issue. 5 of us went and nothing hit the table that wasn t great. Give it a try you wont regret it! Apologies for the duck photo we were to excited and ate some before taking the pic
Excellent food, extremely warm welcome, very nice setting, very reasonable price. We recommend. We will come back
The price is bit high for the offering however taste is a matter of opinion Services is friendly.
Tasty
The quality decreased a lot compared to the time of its just opening. Menu has also changed. No wonder why this place is so empty on a weekend night.
I would recommend to anyone great food, great price and one of the best staff members!
We loved everything, staff was friendly, service was quick, food was delicious. We ordered tempura crevette for entree which was delicious and curry chicken katsu and main dish and wow, tasty tasty tasty. Recommend it.
Eddy gave us a very warm welcome for our first time in Montreal. Food was prepared very fast. The atmosphere is cute and fun, good for casual meal with friends or date night. The food was phenomenal! It s not a full sushi restaurant so don t expect to eat a ton of maki and nigiri, but the sashimi sampler and scallops were incredibly fresh, buttery, delicate, and flavorful. The duck wa also a unique and special twist. My only qualm was that the portion sizes were very small, and for the relatively higher prices for each dish I didn t leave feeling full.
Their Chicken Curry Rice and Tako Wasabi are absolute delights! The chicken curry is rich and flavorful, while the Tako Wasabi offers a refreshing kick. The scallops are ok A must-try for Japanese food lovers!
Absolutely loved the sashimi platter at this restaurant! The freshness of the fish was exceptional, and each piece melted in my mouth. The presentation was stunning too. But what truly stole the show was their scallop carpaccio, simply exquisite! I love the yuzu touch to this dish. Definitely a must-try for any seafood lover.
Was travelling from vancouver and stumbled upon this gem! Amazing service drinks & food! Couldn t have asked for more! Deff will be back next time I visit James Food : 5/5
I am from Korea, and lived 2 years in Japan, before moving to Montreal City. The composure of the dishes and the ambiance are, so far, perfectly authentic to the country which Ive lived in in the past. The fishing is fresh ! The Kyodai personal staff is charming, and professionalism. Thank you Kyodai Tempura ! My english is not very good, sorry about that .
The service was very good they always checked up on me and recommended me the best foods on the menu. The waiter with long hair was very nice to us and took great care of our table. Would definitely recommend the cocktails! I m definitely coming back and/or going to be a regular here.
Great food great service great prices
We decided to go back and try the restaurant since there was a waiting list at the one next door. To our surprise, the atmosphere is very warm, ideal for a couples evening. Good portions and very good service. The decor is beautiful with enough people on a Saturday evening without being too overwhelmed. I recommend
Incredible food, and tremendously kind service. We will definitely return. Thank you! (Will not recommend the Ramens , strongly recommend the Curry rices Food
Every other week I find myself at this amazing restaurant! The food is amazing;I recommend their noodle dishes, and the drinks are great too. The atmosphere is very rustic and cozy; a perfect spot for a date or a night for some drinks and good food. Food
Great place to eat, the dishes were delicious and good value for money. We were at a large table, the staff got lost in the orders and forgot some. The servers remained very friendly.
Karaage was typical. Takoyaki is always a classic. Duck tataki was refreshing. Tako wasabi was tasty but super tiny. The pork ramen was kinda tasteless and they make it so you have to dump the ingredients into the broth and not the other way around which splashes easily.
The food was okay, nothing more. Ramen is not very generous in terms of meat. The service was poor. In an almost empty restaurant, my girlfriend was served 15 minutes before I received my plate and the waiter was super cold when I asked him if there was a problem. The waiters are too busy dancing to their loud rap music instead of serving the customers.
The service was long but very friendly. And the food was sooo good! It was worth the wait. Chicken Katsu is a must for me.
Tempura Sashimi frozen and not fresh Soup Udon chewy table too small
Amazing food , good service, handsome and friendly staff , would highly recommend
The food was amazing! The service of the staff was great , they came from time to time to check if there was anything missing. Im willing to revisit ! I recommend this place !!
Ive been there twice now and each time Im super happy with my experience! The dishes are delicious, the decor is magnificent and the employees are friendly. I plan to go back!
Delicious food! Waiter on the Saturday night was super helpful! Ambiance was superb & music added to the atmosphere
Ultra sexy server, super yummy ramen
Great Japanese food at a great price. Fast service. Drink was good.
Just waiting for this place to really blow up. Some of the best Japanese food I ve had in the city! Also exceptional prices
one of the best Asian restaurants in town! Delicious & authentic dishes, great portions, excellent value in a beautiful, warm, & cozy yet modern decor space. Everything about this restaurant is simply unique, the service is also impeccable!
So good!!
Best japanese restaurant in the town
Great quality and really enjoyed the food!!!
Good food & good vibes !
Amazing Japanese restaurant in downtown Montreal! I love the vibe, its super cozy, and the food is top notch: creative appetizers, rich curry rice with many options of protein, and of course delicious tempura! A must-try if youre a fan of Japanese food.
Amazing curry with tempura fried to perfection. I would 100% go back again to try the other tempura options.
The food was excellent, and the vibe was amazing. Service was fast and the employees were very nice when we needed help. The salmon mille feuille was the highlight of the night
The appetizers were amazing, especially the salmon mille feuille and filet mignon tataki (their weekly special). The main dishes were amazing. The curry rice is very tasty. The udon was served hot and tasted really good. The vibe is cozy and nice for a night out.
The service was good ! The tendon was crispy. I got the Mille feuilles Salmon. It was very tasty. I loved the lobster curry !
The octopus curry and the udons were really tasty. The service was fast and the waitresses were friendly.
Great service, staff are kind and quick! Hostess was very nice and welcoming. Atmosphere felt more like a fast food in and out vibe than sit and dine cuisine. Good meals that are more traditional than western with a few unique touches.
Overall a great little place, thats sightly overpriced for what they offer. The food overall is tasty and the menu certainly invites many visits with the variety. Ive been here twice and enjoyed the tempura udon soup the most. My only issue is the price as its a bit more than what Im willing to pay for what they offer. Nearby, you can find jako which has the same type of cuisine but is better in almost every regard.
We really enjoyed our dinner there. Food was great, staffs were so friendly and made sure that everything was ok at our table. Will definitely go back again!!
Totally mind-blowingly Fabulous experience with a first date was right magical night Wheelchair accessibility: Happily it was the last time is was in my wheelchair and the staff were very accommodating
Okay this place is SO good! The appetizers are the real star - the Duck Takaki tastes like a $45 dish from a fancy restaurant but its $13... unreal!! The Ebi Tempura is a MUST its the most buttery shrimp. Avoid the cold udon (Namo Niku Udon) tbh... it did not hit. My advice is to ball out on many appetizers and maybe get a main to share. The appis are flavour bombs at a great price. Overall, 100% get: Duck Takaki, Ebi Tempura, Chawanmushi, Matcha ice cream sandwich
Portions were very generous! Service was great and they have a rly nice variety
Really great Japanese restaurant. Great selection of tasty udon, soba, and curry dishes. I also am not a fan of tempura but their tempura was surprisingly so good will definitely come back here
Tastes great! Lovely presentation and excellent service
If you like udon or japanese curry rice, try out this place. Tasty menu, good service, price and portion are reasonable. They also have special menu that change regularly, ask away, wont be disappointed. The time I went there, it was chawan mushi with fried oyster and shrimp potato korokke appetizer. The place is just a hop from Atwater metro.
Good price, good food, good portion. 10/10 would come again!
Love the ambiance and the service was good. The duck tataki was delicious! The curry and tempura bowls were tasty but very greasy and heavy after a few bites. Definitely would be better paired with light acidic drinks to balance it out.
It was delicious!!
Cozy environment, tables are not next to each other so you can talk comfortably. Special menu is the best in terms of food quality and quantity, would highly recommend to try. Shrimp tempura tasted really special and was big shrimp. You could taste a lot of meat in the cheese pork cutlet but the sauce was a bit salty and there was too much red ginger. My friend tried the dry udon but the udon itself was really bland. In general, it was a great experience despite finding a really small hard ball shape in my curry but they didnt charge it.
No complaints about the food. It was great and very delicious. The atmosphere was really nice. The waiters were nice too. I would have given it 5 stars but only 4 stars because some of the drinks we wanted to order, they ran out of the main ingredient of the drink so we had to choose other ones. But other than that, I recommend this place!
This place is so underrated, they have good food and service!
Returned to this place by chance and.... WHAT A DISCOVERY!! The atmosphere and decor makes you think of a Japanese alley and of being in Japan! The menu is very varied, both with drinks and food. The map shows us Japan. The cocktails and the food are top notch with very generous and above all excellent dishes! For my part, one of the best Japanese restaurants I have ever eaten at! Finally, the service is top notch, with very pleasant and helpful servers, really nothing to say. The restaurant is very clean and with its open kitchen, we immediately notice the very clean kitchen and the cook who takes great care with each of the dishes. I very, very strongly recommend this restaurant which was a very superb discovery for us and we will come back very soon! Thank you for this meal!!
so good! i could tell this was a newer place given the lack of reviews, but definitely a must stop! really good prices but the food was way beyond the prices. felt super well thought out and executed, and so tasty!
Don t let the lacklustre looking entryway discourage you from going in. (I wasn t even sure if they were open) This place is a GEM!! Perfectly battered and fried seafood, meat or veggies paired with either rice (but level up and get the curry rice) or udon. The scallop carpaccio was a delicate and refreshing starter, strongly recommend. The mentaiko (cod roe) udon was a bit on the salty side, but I really enjoyed the giant tempura eel.
The food itself was a 3/5 - good, but not fantastic. I think the balance of the lobster tendon wasn t great - it felt like too much oil with nothing to cut it. It s also my fault for ordering something rich like lobster tempura, but the vegetable tempura that accompanied it were also culprits. Maybe a little miso soup or sliced scallions or side salad would have been nice to combat the grease. However, that isn t why I gave 3/5 stars. I bumped the overall review down a star because the rice was a bit dry. I think this is because their rice is generally served with curry, so it makes sense to have rice on the drier side. For the tendon, on the other hand, I think the slightly dry rice heightened the sensation of grease while I was eating, and the soy sauce seasoning added to the rice didn t add much to the meal, although it was tasty - if the rice/seasoning had been better, I would have given the meal 4-5 stars. The service I ll give a 4ish/5 - I think they were pretty busy with only 1-2 servers, and we did get a complimentary pot of tea as a result. We arrived at the restaurant and didn t receive our food until about an hour and 8 minutes after we sat down. It also took us a while to get our orders taken, but again they seemed pretty busy. There was a large party seated in the back. Otherwise, I think our server was quite attentive when she was able to.
Ive ordered EBI TEMPURA UDON, which, the EBI TEMPURA, is supposed to be their signature dish. But theyve put the fried shrimps upside down, completely soaked in the soup except the tail I didnt expect it at all. Food
Amazing jem with authentic delicious food, great service and amazing atmosphere. Definitely coming back to try other dishes. The soba and scallop curry were very tasty. Food
Stunning quality food and brilliant service. Our server was friendly and helpful. The food is top drawer. I had a mixture of dishes, and I struggled to pick my favorite! They are not the cheapest eats, but they are lovely. I will be back again, hopefully. Worth it!
Delicious! We ordered many dishes and shared everything. The food is very tasty and up my alley. I will definitely come back and try other dishes!
We ordered the duck tartare, crab chawanmushi, pork kakuni, soba, tendon, and octopus curry. Due to a large group happening at the same time, our dishes were delayed, but they offered to compensate us with dessert. Everything was delicious, and wed love to come back again.
Great food at a great price!
New favorite restaurant. I ate here twice recently and i litterally have no complaints the dishes i tried were absolutely delicious. (also not expensive at ALL for the food size and quality u get, especially in that neighborhood)
The atmosphere, food, and alcohol are great! With ink from the Japanese!
Sashimi and raw beef and homemade soju
It used to be a true hidden gem with incredible price, best tempura shrimp than you could find here, and creative menu. Then it closed for a while and reopened. Changed menu, changed staff, probably changed owner, definitely changed chef. Not only most special items are off the menu now, even the only remaining few dont taste the same anymore. The food is now just average mediocre level of Japanese food that you could find in most other Japanese restaurants and isakayas. Even the supposed-to-be signature tempura has dropped its quality so much, and other types of tempura like soft shell crab are gone now. Very disappointing and sad that a place that used to be one of my highest rated Japanese restaurant now dropped to the bottom.
I cam there weeks ago when the place was not even reopened on Google map. I was extremely disappointed to have the cabbage salad so poorly dressed. I talked to the waitress and the manager and they told me the pictures are just decorative on the menu. For me it is a misleading way to sell products. I find it dishonest. I think if they dont have all the ingredients to make it look like the pictures, they should warn the client that they dont have it instead pf charging the full price for it.
Amazing place!! Highly recommended for all kinds of dining out, dating, family reunion, group celebration. Food is fresh and delicious, 5-star service. Great bar service as well!
Food tasted like authentic Japanese food
Very cute and authentic Japanese Bar in the heart of Montreal! Must try!
Love this place
authentic Japanese food! lots of appetizer choices, the duck tarter and salmon tarts are super good! Anago curry rice is tasty too~~
Nice place and delicious food! original Japanese taste and flavour
Real Japanese udon and cabbage salad, curry rice also looks very good, I will come back next time with friends
Very authentic! The food and ambiance are amazing! Good for after work party
Amazing service and the food was delicious! High quality ingredients and attention to detail in every plate.
We were 2 and ordered few dishes to share, and some Japanese drinks overall is one of our favourite place to go back ! Staffs r amazing! Yumyum must try ! Food
My new favourite Japanese food spot. Tempura, curry and udon are MUST.
Was extremely disappointed at the food and service we received. It took about an hour to two hours to get our meal while other people who ordered after us got their meal first. The food was cold when it came out, especially for the steep pricing of the meal, and the service was horrible. Nobody checked up on us while we were waiting for our meal and we didn t get a reason for the two hours wait either. Would not come back again.
-Went there during a less busy time. -The indoor decors really complements the atmosphere. -Servers were always there to help. -ordered the unagi udon ( the soup was delicious), the anago curry rice ( just perfect !!!!) and the karaage ( portion was a bit small for the price, but tasted good) -mango cheese cake
The unagi curry was delicious and arrived within 5 minutes of ordering. Crispy unagi was the right size for the dish. Service wall friendly. The place wasnt busy at all but we went early evening. A little dark inside.
After the relaunch I was super happy to hear that Tempura Kyodai is back after closing for a while with a change in the management (apparently?). So I went with my family for a Saturday dinner. Honestly, we were disappointed. First, the menu shrank by a lot. In the main dishes, all the rice bowls disappeared leaving only the hot udons and the curry rice. There are a lot of appeatizers (tapas style). With an increase in the prices too. For the food, its not as good as before. Its ok, I can eat it but I can go anywhere for this generic taste. The ebi tempuras were my favorite so I ordered them again, it was my biggest disappointment. Sure, it was crunchy but so oily. There is not this elegance that was previously in the dishes. Plus, as there were customers, the cooks in the kitchen kept bashing, I suppose the chicken or pork, for almost 30 minutes... Anyways, tempura kyodai is not what it once was. ------ Before the relaunch (pictures from then) Tempura Kyodai is a cute restaurant with great atmosphere and excellent food and service. Lets start with their specialty, the tempuras. They were excellent. I truly recommend the Ebi tendon which is a bowl of tempura featuring fried shrimps and veggies on rice. The soft shelled crab curry is up there too. Its the best Japanese curry I have eaten. Its not too sweet and the spices is pronounced enough. Then, there is the Soba. Its a simple dish, but its done right. Its very elegant and light, perfect for summer time. The flavours are really balanced here. The last but not least, the mackerel udon. During winter, who can resist it? The broth is light but so complex. The udon are thin but chewy. And the grilled mackerel complement it well. Other than main dishes, they have appetizers and specials of the day. Like the Ebi tempura or the monk fish liver. All are delicious. Overall, Tempura Kyodai deserve their name. Everything was delicious and its not expensive. You get a huge main for around 20$ or less. We will be coming back for sure!
Service is super fast and the food was served almost instantly. The eel curry or eel Udon are great choices
Waited for tempura for 30min. Bad experience. Food is just average.
The atmosphere is Great! Staffs are very friendly, we ordered two appetizers and two curry rice, the price is fair enough, food is average. Vegetarian options: most of their dishes have vege options!
Handsome and beautiful waiters
Probably the best sushi I ve ver had, impeccable staff and quaint atmosphere! Can t wait to visit again.
Too expensive and not worth the price! The menu is soo limited, and the food was just so so. We wouldn t come back again.
Underwhelming experience for me overall. I didn t take photo of the fried karaage chicken because it didn t look edible.. Looked like badly thawed chicken and not fried enough. Batter of the tempura is not fluffy, just thick. The portion of the torched fish in ponzu sauce is a joke, so think. Beef tataki was below average in terms of quality/price. The udon noodles with inari was the only thing I enjoyed and the highlight of the night I recommend. I left the restaurant very disappointed, not authentic japanese cuisine :(
waiting soooo long and food not deserve the price
It was great to have such delicious Japanese food at dt, the prices was under $20 per person. And the staff were very friendly.
Very nice restaurant found by chance. The food is very good, despite the portions being a bit small (except for the main dishes). We took several starters to share. The tonkatsu curry was great.
It has some cute decorations from neon lights to vintage pictures on the walls. It gives you a very authentic Japanese vibe to the restaurant, especially the first time you come in and you look from the entrance towards the back of the restaurant.
As mentioned before, I like to come here mainly for the alcohol. The best food would be their fried selections. It has fried chicken, shrimps, veges, etc. They also offer healthier food for those days where I came in hungry. Mostly known for their curry rice or their noodles. Although sometimes I feel quite stuffed, I never felt uncomfortable after pigging out unlike other places. It feels healthy I guess?
Wholesome dining experience at tempura kyodai. Service was quick and friendly. The food was fresh. Everything from the korokke and Wagyu appetizers to tendon bowls were just perfect. Tempura is not too greasy as well. Great little spot for sure. So happy you guys opened in Montreal! Vegetarian options: They have vegetable tempura for vegetarians Kid-friendliness: Not kid friendly. No highseats. Not stroller friendly Wheelchair accessibility: There are stairs to go into the restaurant
Heard that udon is good but it turned out it s so normal nothing special and udon wasn t even fully cooked ..and why put shrimp tempura directly inside the soup??? It supposed to be crispy not soft!
Since the reopening of the restaurant, the experience is no longer the same and the cuisine has disappointed us
First time visiting this restaurant; The food was good, the vibes were immaculate. The staff was so sweet, and engaged in conversations often. Such a lovely and warm place, with good music. Would definitely come again ! Food
