Discriminatory place. Don't believe other reviews as they come from people this place gives preferential treatment to at the expense of other people they discriminate against. I went there to watch a World Series game. and made sure to order a lot to make my stay's pay worth the bar's time. While I was in the middle of watching TV and drinking beer, the waitress suddenly interrupts me and asks me, believe it or not, to put my plate on a tray she was carrying. She wanted me to do her job instead of picking up my plate herself. Honestly, my entire experience of enjoyment got ruined right there. The bar gets 0 stars just for that alone without me telling the rest of the story. Any bar/restaurant that demands their customers do any work at all immediately fails the customer service rating completely. I had a feeling at the pit of my stomach this was intentional trolling. I can sense BS from miles away. Also, a few other restaurants in Montreal discriminated against me in the past, and after reviewing them online, some were closed down within a month, which confirmed they were illegitimate. I went to the supervisor and told him the story, expressing my sincere feelings that service felt like discrimination. He got defensive and claimed the behaviour was not discrimination. But, how could he know if he wasn't even there to see what happened?! He can't read the bartender's mind! A proper supervisor would have checked with the bartender first before speaking. His defence sounded like a lie. That right there again failed the place in customer service. I told the supervisor I wasn't born yesterday. I've been to many restaurants, and none ever asked me to do their work for them. Usually, the waitress picks up the plate herself. I told him I cannot tip the bar if it made me do work, unless the bartender apologizes, so he had her apologize. Things went well for the next 20 minutes as the supervisor started serving me directly. But, then something weird occurred. I had two beer pints on my table at one point, and after I finished one and started the other, the supervisor interrupted me while I was watching TV and asked me if I was done with the previous beer. But, the glass was 100% empty and I was drinking from the second glass already, which obviously indicates to any competent staff at any competent restaurant/bar that it was OK to take the first pint away (another service failure there). This did not feel like an innocent mistake. Something was off again. It felt like either incompetence or covert discrimination, which is bad either way. Later, I called the supervisor to clear the situation. I mentioned I felt trolled for being interrupted while enjoying the World Series to be asked about a drink that was already 100% empty; it felt like discrimination again. He got defensive as if I called his bluff, but then said sorry. I told him if he's sorry, then I forgive him. I went back to watching the TV. But then a minute later, the supervisor came and told me he didn't want my service and wanted me out. I told him: There it is! You just confirmed 100% beyond reasonable doubt you are discriminating against me. That is the definition of discrimination. You don't want me here even though I didn't do anything wrong and you did wrong by offering me discriminatory poor service. Any legitimate place that gave poor service would joyfully apologize and make it up to the customer. I am sure if I take that supervisor to court over a discrimination charge, his tongue would slip and he'd mess up in court proving yet again he discriminated against me 100% like he did when he asked me to leave. The government oughta crack down on bars/restaurants that discriminate, outlawing banning customers unless they started fights, stole, or harassed anyone (I did none) as otherwise, it's discrimination to ban. I went to another bar, which was night and day from this bar. They treated me with the utmost respect, did no covert discrimination, and provided great service. I knew I was right all along and the previous bar supervisor was gaslighting me!
Wonderful Sunday evening! Perfectly poured Guinness with our burgers and sweet potato fries ! Sam and Matt were helpful, cheery and attentive!
Such a great dining experience, Peyton was super attentive to everything we needed. Her red headed manager really made us feel welcomed. Will come back soon!
An iconic Irish pub in MTL. I always have fish and chips and Guiness here. Too bad the restaurant had to change the name, thanks to the language police 👎👎👎
Had the spicy chicken sandwich and a bowl of rice. Was so so yummy. The cherry on top was the service. Chris and Natasha took amazing care of us. Will definitely be back!
vibe is good for drink and chill out with friend. fish chips not bad. Griffentwon beer good:)
Today was my first day trying the food in this place. We went there to celebrate a friend’s birthday after church so we were a big group (more than 20 people) so we occupied the whole inside section. We came last. I ordered fish and chips (it comes with fries and coleslaw). I replaced the fries with sweet potato fries (extra charge 4$) with a Guinness beer. The breaded haddock was good and the fries too. A friend of mine ordered the chicken sandwich wrap with soup and she said that the chicken was so good and juicy (well marinated). I loved the place with the great decorations. It is clean and the service was great and fast according to our number. Our waitress was fast and attentive. All in all, I liked my experience there and would love to go back again and try sth else.
This is a fixture of her Monkland village for a reason, it’s awesome! This is the quintessential Irish Pub experience, in the heart of NDG. We have been going for years, and just returning again after a little while. The beers, food and service is fantastic, with the service being a high point. Kim greeted and served us with a radiant smile and great personally! This is the type of pub that regulars frequent, we will be back (again and again) for sure! The chicken soup was a délite, this time around. See ya soon!
Cute pub. Was served by Emily who was kind and courteous. Will be returning :)
The braised beef and Wagu dumplings are excellent.
As always i had an incredible time at our NDG Ye Olde Orchard ! Whether its the friendly staff or delicious food im never disappointed . I cant wait to go back and enjoy more crispy wings and a fresh Pint ! The vibe inside is exactly what youre looking for at a local pub ,thanks again see you soon ! Vegetarian options:
Always a fantastic meal served by a courteous staff member. Consistent great environment, cheers!
Great Irish pub! Great atmosphere and amazing service . Food was 10/10
Great food, great staff and no better place to watch the game and have a Guinness!
Great food , and great drinks. Great place to grab a pint to catch up with a friend or watch the game.
Incredibly terribly small will not return
Great casual place to hang out with friends & even watch sports. Great selection of drinks and pub food. Hip crowd of all ages.
The food is good, nice atmosphere, but I found it a little too loud.
Very great pint of Guinness, superb service by Matthew who is very cool a lot of the time. Make sure you try the curry fest special!!
Best place ever, everything is good here !! A big thanks to Chris and Sam for letting People be what ever they want to be and for letting them feel all good inside the bar ! Food
The food was ok, service ok. Nothing great !
lunch The first time I went to lunch, it didnt have any condiments (peanut butter and jam). The second time he had That was the only downside to this place. Beautiful qualities in food and in preparation/presentation
A classic pub, nothing special. Food and service are both below average
Very expensive and not good...
The food is great, the drinks are cold, and the atmosphere is unbeatable. The staff always makes sure that you feel like you are at home when you show up! A+++
Stopped in here for afternoon pints and a snack after walking the neighborhood. Small, intimate pub with soft celtic music playing as background on a lazy Saturday. Kid-friendliness: Noticed a few families of various ages gathering here
Nice fun place to eat and have beer in NDG. Lots of TVs to watch sports. Service is great . I am a French speaker and I find it absurd to have forced the change of name of the establishment. Regardless, this place is a must in the neighborhood
Fun spot to listen to some music, have some food, and drink a beer. The food exceeded my expectations -- try the buffalo cauliflower!
Food was awful, I had to go buy food form another place after I left, I couldnt finish my meal
I love this place, really good guiness, good food but a little pricy (thats how it is on monkland). I love the chicken wings and variety on the menu. I think there could be a little more irish music playing at the pub. When I enter I enjoy it but there could be room to have a better atmosphere and have it a bit more attractive than just being a simple pub. A little bit of drinking music would be cool . But keep up the good work love this place, and excellent service.
Food is bad even for bar food . Lots of bugs /flies bussing around inside. Bathroom is gross. Super nice staff I feel bad that they have to serve the food at this place.
Beautiful pub with a great service by Chris. A proper pour of Guinness. Food was amazing and the fries
Classic Monkland Village venue thats been serving pints and good grub for decades. Local watering hole feels but everyones welcome, if youre in town for a visit and looking for ideas of where to go the OO is a great spot and the regulars will be happy to give you some ideas of other places to enjoy in the city. Parking: Parking by no means impossible but be prepared to strike a balance between convenience and distance.
Standard pub fare for the most part. Great service but the decor needs an update
Great local pub, with great looking food (we were not eating)
Great place to chill with friends and family. Went here on a Saturday evening. Not too big pub, but the food and service are amazing. Love the sangria and the appetizers, especially the honey garlic chicken wings and nachos. Will definitely visit this place again.
A great place to go to with your friends!
First time ordering from this establishment. i am a retired european chef and Monkland Orchard is EASILY - 5 STARS . We ordered the Braised Beef and Fish & Chips thru UberEats, both were outstanding. The braised beef was hot, melt in mouth, no teeth needed tender &comes with a very nice gravy / sauce, mashed potatoes, and seasoned veggies. The fish was perfectly deep fried, not too hard and not too soft, nice premium fish. We highly recommend Monkland Orchard without hesitation. Keep up the great work, its definitely a hidden diamond in a city full of shiny gems.
I saw another google review praising the stout braised beef, and had to try it. If I wasnt in a public setting, I would have licked the dish clean; the beef was tender, the brown sauce was delicious, and the mash and veg were cooked well! I ordered an old fashioned to accompany my dinner, which tend to be hit or miss depending on the establishment. These folks hit the mark. Wonderful dinner and drinks. The atmosphere is casual and friendly, the staff are a pleasure to deal with, and I would encourage everyone considering a visit to take the plunge. Ill certainly be returning during my next stay in Montreal. Cheers!
Good service, food and best atmosphere best place to eat at in the morning and night
I looooove this place! Yes it s a little noisy when it s full, but the service, the food and the general atmosphere more than make up for it!
Cute pub for happy hour. Their fries are really good, and the service is friendly
We had a memorable night. First we ordered 3 cold beers and then we killed ourselves with potatoes
I have never once had a bad experience here. The bartenders have always been friendly and honest. They have also made sure I got home safely by happily calling a cab for me, and also, when I was leaving alone very much in the drink, making sure I got in the cab alone as well.
Great Irish pub!
Nice restaurant to go for a drink and enjoy a good talk with a close one.
Love the atmosphere and their rabaska on tap! The best time to go is definitely during the Tuesday trivia nights
Great selection of comfort food. Fantastic selection of tap beers and the glasses that go with them is a great touch.
Everything was very good! My choice Cobb Salad and excellent Sangria!!!
Good Fun pub Food
One of the best spots for enjoying an Irish pub vibe. Food is delicious, service is always friendly, and of course, the drinks variety and quality, to the top!
Excellent period!
Not really anything special. Nothing interesting on tap, usually crowded. Also paid $50 for a burger and a beer.
Outdoor space is so nice in summer but also the indoor space is lovely. The wings were quite good. They had good offers of drinks for tuesdays.
Came by the other night after my shift. I was served by Matt and Mel and they made me feel right at home. Had a blast. Will be back soon!
I always love coming here! Such a good vibe and love the service from the staff. Arend is so friendly!
Excellent service and the music was great.
Rustic old British-styled pub. It is a great atmosphere to soak in food and booze.
Great food! Good atmosphere & excellent service!
Nice little cozy pub. Service is great
We were a large group but the server was totally in top of things. Got everyones order right and quickly too! Food was great and the place had a great vibe. Will be back for sure.
Good drinks, wonderful waitress named Melissa. Didnt get food but had a great time
The perfect neighborhood pub. People are really nice and service is really good , the food was a little bit too greasy but thats Montreal for you.
I had a great New Years Eve, the food was delicious, the staff were pleasant and smiling, and the atmosphere was great. An excellent pub (and there is a splendid giant violin hanging from the ceiling). I will come back with joy :)
Everything we had, french onion soup, cheeseburger, fries, sweet potato fries, fish and chips, tartar sauce, everything was better than Ive ever had before. The pub is huge, cute, cosy vibe, fireplace! The music is great. And Brian, the person serving, is great. So sweet, friendly and observant. Will go again whenever Im in this area.
Very nice food, friendly staff. It was a bit cold inside but overall loved it
Samantha the server did a wonderful job and was very
Went on a first date with the luv of mine life here amazing experience but a bit loud Muah
Chris slays
Chris
The music is too loud! I went to many pubs in Ireland and the music isnt as loud. I wasnt able to hear half of what my friend was trying to yell at me across the table. Lower the volume guys! apart for that, the food, the crowd and the service is great. I really wish I didnt have tinnitus after tonight.
Nice place for British/Irish food
Delicious food. Cozy ambiance and friendly staff
Friendly neighborhood bar. Excellent service.
Cozy vibe
My favourite pub
Great food, good selection of beers
Great pic good with a good selection of British beers! Plus they have a pub quiz on a Wednesday!
Great local pub always know people there.
Had a Birthday Party here recently . We booked the back room. We had 25 people come and the size of the room and ambiance was perfect and exactly what we wanted . Service was excellent with one waitress assigned to us, Melissa I believe , really pro and did an excellent job. Kyle was at the bar and after some miscommunication at first with original booking quickly sorted all out so kudos there to him . We pre-ordered food platters and they were good. For Pub food Id say above average . Overall great evening .
Was the first time my daughter and me visited the place and the beef with brown sauce was AMAZING. I loved it the guy who attended us was very attentive Thank you!!
Havent visited the Pub in forever, and ventured back during St Patricks Sunday with a couple of former NDG friends. No live band that evening, bumped into an old friend (from Typhoon Lounge) and definitely plan on going back for another Guinness
Excellent truffle fries
It was good until they let the old lady sing popular songs very loudly, so we had to yell at each other. We resolved to leave shortly after she started. She wasnt totally awful, but definitely not a particularly good singer.
The cheesiest nachos ever.
Great place! As soon as you enter you feel the perfect atmosphere for a good pub evening, very friendly staff and a simple but generous menu.
Super friendly staff and cozy atmosphere. The BLT was AMAZING and the fries were home made and delicious. Will definitely be back to check out the rest of the menu! EDIT: ordered take out for the second time. $36 with tax, delivery fee, tip and all that is a bit much for a burger and fries but I was craving curry mayo! Didnt get it. Very disappointed.
Always a fun visit
Friendly service. Dark and stormy was watered down but my other two cocktails were perfect. Great music.
Ye Old Orchard is a small pub located on Monkland Ave. in the NDG neighbourhood of Montreal, living in Calgary its hard to find good Poutine and this establishment serves up some delicious food you just cant find here. The fries were crispy and delicious but the gravy and cheese curds are what makes the dish and they didnt disappoint at all, priced at $17 it seems a little pricey but you get a lot of food, I couldnt finish it but didnt leave much behind. The staff were super friendly and the beer on tap was cold and tasty. Great atmosphere and worth a return visit!
Love the vibe of this place. Great food. Service can be slow as it is very popular
Love the service!
Great Atmosphere. Was there during a Live band event, had a blast
Wings are my favourite there
Ye Olde Orchard never fails to make you feel at home. My go to place all the time. Kudos to the best staff on Monkland.
Love the fish and chips with a cold pint
A local hangout. Good for friends having a drink and a bite. Very convivial.
Nice quick bites and drink . A huge quantity of French fries for 7 $ . Yummi burger ... love the terrasse
What a Fantastic Pub. The food is amazing. The drink is incredible. The ambiance is awesome. People come here and talk all different kinds of languages. It s a shame that it made the news for such a silly thing. Highly recommend it support your local businesses because they are the life of the neighborhood.
Perfect nice Cosy good food
First time here very good pub great food and curtious staff. was here with my wife and a friend and there food looked as good as mine tasted. A definitely good place to go to.There is Parking in the back and they have a terrasse incase you want to eat out side. The enterance is on the side.we will be going back
Good beer, and good atmosphere
Rude.
Was here yesterday with my girlfriend, decided to pop in for a quick bite to eat in the late afternoon. We sat on the patio with coffees from Melk (across the street, amazing place btw). Right after our waitress took our order the manager came out and told us we can t have outside drinks on the patio. Completely understandable, we offered to leave and he said it was okay and gave us cups to put our beverages in. Then our waitress comes out and repeats the same thing. Again, completely understandable. Manager once again comes out and asks us if we re taking anything to drink and we say no, we have our coffees and we ordered food. He said verbatim that he d have to kick us out if we didn t order something alcoholic to drink, and that we can t sit on the terrace and waste his time if we re not drinking. So we decided to leave and told our waitress to cancel our food order. The issue that I have is not with being told we can t have outside drinks. We both have worked customer service, specifically as wait staff for years and understand the very common rule of not being allowed to have an outside beverage. My issue is the way he spoke to his clients in front of other clients. There was absolutely a better way for him to have handled that conversation without being rude and making us feel uncomfortable. As a RESTAURANT and bar you should expect that some people may just want a quick bite to eat, not everyone wants to get drunk before 6pm.
Been to multiple ye orchard pubs and thoroughly enjoyed my visits. Second time Ive been to this location and although the first time was a good experience the second left both myself and my partner with a sour taste in our mouths, and we wont be returning. We grabbed some lattes from a café across the street and while walking past the pub we decided to pop in for a quick fish n chips, seeing another guest enjoying theirs on the patio. We spoke with a waitress, told us it was okay to sit on the patio and we promptly ordered food from her. The manager came out and let us know we cant have beverages from elsewhere on the patio and wanted to know what it was that we were drinking. We let him know of the situation; our impulse to grab a quick bite to eat from a well known establishment, and offered to leave given our chai lattes. He said it was okay but to know for next time its not allowed. Our server came out shortly after and repeated the same message. The manager comes out a second time and asks us for a drink order, saying that hell have no choice but to kick us off his patio if were not buying anything alcoholic to drink. We explained to him that were just here for food and that weve already ordered. He said well have to leave if we dont order so much as a coke, and he went back inside. We decided to leave given the altercation, with my partner going inside to let our waitress know wed be leaving. The manager overheard this and said we didnt have to leave (all this after us being told twice to leave by him). My partner explained that we felt uncomfortable with the situation and the way we were spoken to. I applied to work here once, extremely grateful that I was never hired because Id be utterly embarrassed to work in an establishment where the managers speak to their patrons this way. As someone who has experience as both a waitress and manager I can honestly say the way we were spoken to was nothing short of rude and belittling. It happens often in the summer where patrons will come in with beverages from elsewhere as its human nature to want to quench your thirst. Ive been in this situation many times where Ive had to let someone know of our patio rules and have never not once spoken to a customer in the way we were spoken to. Perhaps if it was midnight and we were drunk and rowdy the curtness and rudeness would have been totally understandable, but to cause a scene in front of other patrons, and to speak to patrons who were looking to eat a meal at a restaurant in the way we were spoken to is just not acceptable behavior from a manager.
Average bar.
Nice space at the back for groups! Good beer and service.
This place is great!! Best pouting Ive had. Small, but worth the trip. Definitely coming back
Went for a drink with colleagues! Very nice neighborhood pub! We didnt eat
Great ambiance and staff gives amazing service
One of my favorite pubs. The food is excellent and so is the service. Shoutout to Melissa the best waitress!!
Very good food and atmosphere. I enjoyed the service and how pleasant the servers were. A great place to relax and have drinks as well.
A great little pub, really cool environment with great service. Amazing drink specials, awesome food. Should have taken a photo of my wings...was basically a whole chicken
My wife and I went on a Tuesday. The pub was full. A real pub atmosphere. The perfectly poured pint of Guiness.. just enough foam. The service was long because they were understaffed. On the other hand, the food leaves something to be desired. The fish and chips were dry. The fries were poorly blanched because they were crispy... Raw... The cobb salad had no dressing at all. We couldnt ask to rectify the situation because the waitresses never came since they were too busy!! Go there for a drink but for the food, there are other restaurants on Monkland Street!! The manager contacted me and we talked. She invited us for a meal which we declined. We put a review here not to get a free meal. We thank you for the follow-up, a sign that you care about your customers. Hence the addition of 2 stars. THANKS
The burgers are a little over-salted. The pickles have no taste and you just are relying on ketchup and other condiments to get your taste from their burger.
The server and the food quality on high definition
Foods good, service is good, drinks are good. the Trivia on Wednesdays is always a lot of fun
Great beer selection, great service, great burgers!
SUPER!!!One of the best pubs in Montreal!
The food was awful. Fries were burned, and the wings tasted bad a bit bitter and..... Beer was fine, and the service was good also Food
Family friendly and great service.
Matt was awesome for my group. I hope hes around next time I come by Food : 5/5
One member of staff was bizarrely aggressive to a friend for not paying quickly enough. At the end of the night I was charged twice, which seems to be a recent trend. Wont return.
An old staple. Classic style corner pub
Been coming here for years, great neighbourhood pub.
Magnificent...the best pub!
Classic pub atmosphere, great service. The burger was a bit too dry
Good vibes and good service!
What svfab place for a pub quiz. Great find on our visit to Quebec.
Food is so good.
Always a warm welcome. Entire staff is great, food is always hot and tasty. Love the rustic look. All these things make us come back every single time. 4 ppl, shared 1kg of hot wings, fried pickles, Their signature burger is just soooo good. Food
A good little local pub. We went for Wednesday Trivia night. Had a good time.
Amazing place. Good food, good staff, good service,... an amazing experience!
A bit noisy.
Great food at reasonable prices. Two dozen beers on tap including lagers, ales, stouts and a cider. Trivia on Wednesday. Food : 5/5
Live music. Great!
