Farm-fresh Québécois dishes & tasting menus from renowned chef Normand Laprise, plus fine wines.
Excellent service from the moment I walked in, but unfortunately, the food did not impress me at all. I visited this restaurant because I heard the experience would cost a thousand dollars in the States. Since I went for lunch, it wasn’t a course menu. All mains included one appetizer and coffee, priced at $49–53 CAD, which is a very good deal for fine dining menu. They have quite a good wine collection, and many table customers opened bottles. They also offer half glasses of wine, priced at around $10 CAD each. For my meal, I had foie gras as an appetizer and duck leg as the main course. Both dishes were heavy, overly sweet, and salty. While the duck skin was crispy, the meat was dry, and I couldn’t understand the purpose of the bread placed between the mushrooms and sauce. My server, Phill, was efficient and well-organized. He handled customer questions about the wine selection quickly and knowledgeably. The post-meal coffee, however, was machine-made, a bit watery, and took over ten minutes to make. In summary, the service and ambiance were excellent, but the food was underwhelming.
Literal art on every dish! The tasting menu was a treat for all the senses and soooo good for the soul! Each dish was incredibly delicious, attentive service, and the ambiance so chic and intimate. Truly one of my favorite tasting experiences in Montreal.
Enjoyed a multi-course tasting menu here which was a treat to our senses! The service was excellent and the staff were very kind and courteous to accommodate our schedule to make some adaptations! Come here to enjoy a delicious feast!
Before I start this review, I want to acknowledge something: it takes a lot of work to run a restaurant. I wouldn’t know this personally, as I am just someone who loves food experiences, but I respect the effort. Food is an art form that, at its highest moments, tells a story. The best restaurants weave this story seamlessly, from the moment you are greeted by the maître d’ to the time you sign the check. The food should justify its place on the plate, the art should be meaningful, and the ambiance should tie it all together, saying, “Thank you for choosing us. Here’s why it matters.” Unfortunately, Toque’s story was incoherent, like the ramblings of someone lost in a drunken stupor, clinging to a reality that exists only in their head. Upon entering, the décor felt like a relic of the early 2000s—a carpeted (why carpet?) time capsule. It reminded me of someone who over-prepped for Y2K, only to be left with stacks of toilet paper in their closet. My spouse and I were there to celebrate a special occasion. Having dined at similar establishments in New York, we were excited to see what Toque would deliver as a supposed bastion of fine cuisine. THE BREAD The bread was one of the only highlights—a mix of sourdough with a chewy crust and impossibly soft interior, paired with butter that could have sparked wars in earlier centuries. 9/10. THE TRAGEDY The rest of the meal spiraled into chaos, beginning with an amuse-bouche. The server offered a “surprise” or foie gras, and we opted for the surprise, only to receive lobster in a buckwheat shell—despite my well-communicated shellfish allergy. After a brief “oh…sorry,” they replaced it with hastily thrown-together tuna salad. No apology beyond that, not even a simple glass of champagne to acknowledge the mistake. Here’s the breakdown of the courses: 1. First Course: Trout ceviche in cold miso soup. A confusing pairing that felt random rather than intentional. (4/10) 2. Second Course: Trout (again), with beurre blanc, walnuts, and trout roe. Not terrible, but shockingly underseasoned—I had to request salt. (5/10) 3. Third Course: Walleye from Lake Erie with black garlic sauce, confit pear, and pickled radishes. Fish was fine, pear was great, sauce needed salt. (5/10) 4. Fourth Course: Young rooster with vegetables. Chicken on a tasting menu needs to be magical, but this was bland beyond forgiveness. (3/10) 5. Fifth Course: Sirloin the size of my index finger (and I’m not a large person), served lukewarm with yet another forgettable sauce. (2/10) 6. Sixth Course: The pre-dessert “surprise” was purple ube ice cream, poppyseed cake, and chocolate in a pool of Minute Maid lemonade. It was shocking, in the worst way. The cheese dish—a brie with spelt cracker—was utterly forgettable. (1/10) THE DESSERT FROM HEAVEN The seventh and final course was miraculous: a white chocolate mousse with soaked pear, chocolate bark, and citron sorbet. It was thoughtful, balanced, and decadent, erasing—almost—the disaster of previous courses. If the rest of the meal had been even a fraction as inspired as this dessert, Toque might have redeemed itself. But one great dish cannot carry a meal that failed at nearly every other step. WHAT MORE? The service lacked the attentiveness expected at this level. The manager’s “gift” for our celebration—a stock card signed by the chef—felt hollow. No creative dessert, no thoughtful keepsake menu, just an afterthought. The inconsistent music—alternating between too loud and imperceptibly soft—only added to the disjointed experience. And so, we left wondering what story Toque was trying to tell. In the end, we had to make up one ourselves: Toque is an establishment so convinced of its greatness, it doesn’t feel the need to explain why its food matters. Instead, it says, “We thought of this yesterday—eat it and go.” Overall Rating: 2/10. The bread and dessert were phenomenal, but I would have been happier at a bakery with a pint of Häagen-Dazs. After all, man cannot live on bread alone.
We ordered the seven-course Tasting Menu with wine pairing. The service was very slow making the dinner last 4-hours. Our server, Eve, spent most of her time re-filling our water glasses. The venue was a bit dated. Finally, the design of the coffee cup with no handle, delivered at the end of the meal, was just plain silly.
It hits five stars for what it does really well, but context is important. This is an excellent experience, a journey through the terroir palette of Quebec. This makes it special. Dishes are visually stimulating and the service protocol is at the top of restauranteurs - the staff are true professionals. I opted for the seven course meal - there were a number of exceptional flavours and pairings, but a few that fell short of « wow » which is not to be mistaken for anything less than a high standard. These components of the experience - and that’s what it should be considered, an experience - create a certain value (including when the bill comes $$$$). Though, if you were to isolate for flavour on its own, there are moments that create questions. Overall, I left satisfied, content and appreciative of the experience, but reflective of the cost/experience factors. If you appreciate the visual and experiential art of a high end dinner to the fullest, it’s not to be missed. If you experience food from a more pragmatic or face value perspective, you may want to bypass the multi-course menu and select an à la carte option.
Had the tasting menu here, the meal started off strong with the amuse bouche and ended off really well with the cheese dish and the dessert but everything else was nothing special.... the rest of the dishes didn't leave a memorable impression and our party was left feeling quite disappointed. We had high expectations from this highly rated restaurant, but I probably wouldn't come back. As far as high end restaurants go.... 3.7/5
First time at Toqué- wow! An experience like no other. The service is impeccable with wonderful attention to even the smallest details. The ambiance is elegant (although true decor could use an upgrade). Our dishes came out at a perfect pace with stunning plating. Every dish was special and different. Fresh local products are front and center. Merci 🙏🏽
A very good evening with a meal worthy of a Michelin star. The quality of the dishes is undeniable and we frequent this type of establishment from time to time. Dishes that made us discover new flavors, what we were looking for. A special mention to the sommelier, who, in addition to being adorable, presented us with an absolutely perfect wine and wine pairing. For 2 areas of improvement, there are well placed and very very poorly placed places for the same price (tables placed side by side .) In addition, the room is really too noisy, and poorly arranged, in a luxury place, you need silence, and that was not the case.
Dietary restrictions: Excellent awareness. We had a Celiac in our party and always feel incredibly safe with the whole team at Toque. They understand, go out of their way to make sure food choices are safe including preparing a special one-off alternative for parts of a dish. The best part is all the food is incredible. Thank you. Food
The atmosphere of the restaurant is both elegant and tranquil, perfect for spending a moment of relaxation. The cocktails are exquisite, prepared with care and creativity. The service was impeccable and warm.
Maqnifique
Everything was perfect! A festive dinner that lived up to expectations! The reputation is justified
It was our first time at Le Toqué and we were impressed by the professionalism and kindness of the staff. The food was very good, full of finesse with great discoveries. This was not our first famous restaurant and it will be in our top 3.
A real gem for the senses! Culinary high-flying, nothing less
After experiencing Toqués tasting menu tonight, you cannot convince me that the 5 star reviews are not incentivized. Let it be known that the service was impeccable. From the hostess, to the servers, and the folks clearing the table - everyone was warm and friendly. The food was wildly disappointing. The bread service was almost laughable as the bread was cold, but not as cold as the butter - it wasnt even spreadable. Every single tasting menu dish lacked salt, the most basic seasoning. Nothing was memorable, exciting to the palate, or even an appealing temperature, and I found myself eating as much as I could so that our waiter wouldnt worry too much (he was very kind). To be served tuna three different ways, and each way being less than appealing, speaks to the culinary vision of the chef. They unfortunately missed the mark on highlighting the beauty of the fish. There seemed to be a comfort in including foams and purées, as a few of the dishes included them. There was one in particular that was so foul, we couldnt finish it. Never in my life have I been served foie gras, grilled trout, or chocolate truffles ice cold, but Toqué changed that. I can keep going, but this is getting quite lengthy. Please note that Toqué is quite possibly the worst culinary experience Ive had in Montreal as a local. I wont be returning, nor will I be recommending this restaurant to anyone. *to reply, yes I did tell our server at the table and he was very apologetic
Drinks are good presentation is beautiful but the food has 0 taste .. i gave 2 starts for the presentation
I tried the tasting menu. Without considering the price, foods were good but when we considered the need to pay CAD202 per person, I became picky and think it is not that special and many restaurants could provide similar quality of foods at more attractive price. I just tried another two French restaurants tasting menu before visiting Toque, and the price is only CAD120 per person.
What a great experience! everything was impeccable! ALL employees were gracious, friendly, attentive, courteous and professional. A1!! What to say about the food. We opted for the tasting menu and were not disappointed. The marriage of flavors, the quality of the food, worthy of the greatest gourmet restaurants in the world! It certainly deserves to become a Michelin star! Well done Normand and the WHOLE team!!!
This was the fourth time we came. Previous visits were in 2016, 2017 and 2019, if I remember correctly, and we had excellent memories. This time, we came with a couple of friends for whom it is the first visit to Montreal. Our expectations were therefore high. No complaints about the quality of the food or the service, very professional, but we had to wait almost two hours to receive our starter. We were placed in the area below, not very glamorous and not very romantic (to be avoided). So we were a little disappointed by the atmosphere and decor. As dining at Toqué is not a trivial experience, we will think twice before returning.
It s obvious that it s prepared with love! Everything is perfect and excellent
Thanks to Mr. Laprise for the welcome, the exceptional food and the photo in the kitchen. Immensely appreciated.
The service is impeccable! For our part, we chose the food and wine pairing. We wanted to taste new sought-after flavors. Unfortunately we were very disappointed by our kitchen experience. We have no problem paying for a good dinner, but the flavors were not there. Out of 7 services, 2 had a great effect on us. The disappointment scale. We dont plan to go back, however, we believe that if we had opted for the a la carte menu we might have enjoyed our experience more.
Really unsatisfactory meal. Lacked soul, flavor, and salt. Only made it through 4 of the 7 course tasting before deciding it wasn t worth choking down, and that was 2 hours in to our reservation. Edit: I see the owner replied saying we should have mentioned something during the meal. We did. After each course when we left our plates and bites unfinished.
Just perfect
Toque has been on my radar for many years. Special thanks to Wayne, Phillippe and Gary for facilitating our special occasion.
Sublime food with very professional staff.
Very good restaurant where the welcome is impeccable as is the service. My dishes were refined and original. I particularly enjoyed the smoked eel and the vegetarian dish. Vegetarian options: Vegetable pasta
My partner and I have visited Toqué three times over the past couple years, and it seemed high time to leave a review. All three experiences have been excellent. We get the tasting menu every time and are never disappointed. I would highly recommend adding the wine pairing to get the full Toqué experience. Some highlights of this establishment: - The tasting menu varies seasonally, showcasing different local ingredients. - Each dish is flavourful and beautifully arranged, with every ingredient--no matter how simple--playing a role. The focus is on discovering and appreciating high-quality local foods. They do this so well that my partner and I have found that we even enjoy ingredients we normally would not. I dont usually care for raw tomatoes, but I would eat this seasons fresh tomato salad by the bowl, given the opportunity. - The staff are knowledgeable and attentive. A big part of the experience here is the staffs presentation of the dishes (and wines, if applicable) as they are brought to your table. They pay close attention to you without being obtrusive, making the pacing of the meal feel perfect as they bring out the next dish not long after you finish one. If you get up from the table, a staff member seems to magically appear to fold your napkin and pull your chair out for you as you return. - The staff are bilingual and can provide excellent service in either English or French. - They have been wonderfully accommodating of my dietary restrictions (more on that separately) and never made me feel like an inconvenience. For prospective diners, here are some points to help shape your expectations: - Interaction with staff is a big part of the tasting menu experience. If this isnt your cup of tea, the tasting menu may not be the best choice. - The focus here is on quality, not luxury or decadence. Toqué does not try to impress its guests with exotic or flashy ingredients. Expect local fruits, vegetables, and proteins, presented elegantly, with natural flavours. You will likely not be served a plate swimming in truffle oil and gold leaf. You may, however, eat the best parsnip purée of your life. - The price of the meal reflects the quality of both the food and the service. For most of us, eating here is a rare treat, but it is a treat indeed, and I have never regretted a dime spent at Toqué. All in all, Toqué has offered my family and me a delightful experience time and time again, and I cannot recommend them highly enough. My only regret is that I have not yet had the opportunity to enjoy each of their seasonal menus. Dietary restrictions: Toqué has been wonderful about my multiple dietary restrictions. I have several food allergies and this can make it very difficult to enjoy a meal at a fine dining establishment, particularly when it comes to tasting menus, which often cannot be modified. This is not the case with Toqué. The staff are accommodating, respectful, and take dietary restrictions seriously. For example, I cannot eat any fish, and the tasting menu usually includes some fish dishes. I am always presented with an alternative dish, and the staff treat it just the same as the standard dish, describing each ingredient with care. I cant overstate how refreshing it is to not be treated as an oddity or an inconvenience, and how much more I can enjoy my meal when I feel confident that the staff truly care about the safety and experience of guests with dietary restrictions. I would recommend mentioning any restrictions when making your reservation, and re-confirming with staff upon your arrival. This has always worked well for us.
Nice meeting and very nice welcome with an excellent meal and great service
Had tasting dinner at Toqué last night; amazing!! The food, wine, service, and ambiance were all memorable. Thank you!
Must go place in Montreal
Very good tasting menu and wine pairing on an enjoyable night out at Toque. The first couple dishes were seafood forward with two well matched white wine pairings (dry German Riesling and Austrian Chardonnay). The next course was a transition from sea to land, which was a nice touch, as such the wine also moved from white to Rose, nice attention to detail. Moving onto red wines, the dishes evolved to land based ultimately finished with a rich foie gras, short rib, and loin paired with a Bordeaux from Pauillac. Continuing the trend of transitioning we were given the option of sweet or savory before the final dessert, my wife and I chose different, which was a nice option. All in all was a very attentive staff, great explanations from the Sommeliers, and good quality food. Would definitely recommend Toque as a quality option for food and wine pairing in Montreal. Dietary restrictions: Able to accommodate my wifes allergies to tree nuts, coconut, and poppy seeds
Interesting dish, I like the taste of ingredients, and the creativity. We asked that the stone plate is a real stone from chef s hometown.
very very good for the first time (got the fish). the second time was not as good as the first. I really didn t like my sirloin dish, very hard to chew. The third time was good again. The fish again was excellent. Duck was also good as usual. Maybe they are not very good with red meat(?) The service has been great all along.
I didnt expect it at all. A little background: weve dined in some great restaurants around the world, including Michelin-starred ones, but also in simpler places. What we love is good food. I booked at Toqué after reading reviews and asking a few people who told me it was one of the best restaurants in Montreal, so we decided to give it a try. We took the Discovery menu. Here are my comments, dish by dish. 1. The appetizer had a beautiful presentation, but elements that added nothing to the dish, flat flavor. 2. The first course of trout was fresh, with a very subtle flavor. The emulsion and oils provided a slight pleasant acidic aftertaste, but I wish the chef had taken more risks. This dish had potential. 3. The tartare was based on a base that was too diluted, with dill, almost flavorless and a little bitter, seeming to float in water. I almost sent it back. 4. The foie gras terrine with fruit jam and brioche was, against all expectations, the best dish of the evening. Excellent texture, solid flavor of the foie gras, good contrast with the jam, perfectly measured sweetness, successful brioche and presentation. 5. The Gaspésie tuna with vegetables was poorly executed. The sauce lacked character, the bok choy (one of my favorites) was overcooked giving a bitter flavor. The dish lacked balance and consistency. 6. The meat dish with beef tongue, pear, broccoli and puree was the second and last dish to save of the evening. The meat was well cooked, the broccoli perfect, and the pear went well with the beef tongue, which was the best part of the dish, with flavor unlike the other elements. 7. The dessert of ice cream, cream and granita lacked flavor and texture. Once again, decorative flowers without taste interest. 8. The mini cookie with cream, cherry, fruit and chocolate was uniformly sweet, without contrast, reminiscent of a supermarket frozen dessert. 9. The last mouthfuls of maple were pretty, but without texture or surprise in the mouth, simply maple, with a square of marzipan without much interest. In summary, it was a disappointment. I dont understand how they could have failed to make such good quality ingredients shine. The restaurant is pretty, but far from offering a real gastronomic experience
Amazing food and exceptional service
Very good experience until the moment of the bill! There would be a credit card limit which required payment in several installments. The minimum tip amount being 15%, we decided not to apply it to all payments, which earned us derogatory comments from the staff. It s a shame to end the experience on this sour note because the other servers were very pleasant!
We had the tasting menu and should have really read more of the recent reviews as we had a similar experience. We had the tasting menu and the first couple of dishes were pretty good but things quickly fell off. Overall the food lacked seasoning and just didn t pop the way you would expect. The lamb was inedible, fat not properly rendered, the young piece was like chewing gristle. Worst of all they burnt the demo glacé and it tasted like they used the same sauce in the following beef dish. The steak was good but just lacked flavor like everything else. We finally asked for salt and pepper which we should have done much earlier. What s most disappointing is that we provided this feedback during the meal and really weren t offered anything else. When the manager asked at the end I told him the sauce was burnt he proceeded to explain to me how Demi glacé is made, which I found incredibly offensive. I ve eaten it and made it dozens of times and I know when it s burnt. We spent over $500 and left hungry as we didn t finish 3 of the 7 dishes.
Very expensive but worth the price. All the senses are challenged. I recommend at least 1 time in your life
Based on the number of positive reviews, I had high expectations for Toque. The staff was friendly provided great service; however, the food was significantly below average. We ordered and shared 10 dishes and they were all bland at best. Presented well, but disappointing and not worth the price. There are far better restaurants for a fraction of the price.
Certainly one of the best restaurants in Quebec. Impeccable service and a great team!!! Well done!
I would like to thank Monsieur Montigny, Monsieur Charles and their sommelier for an excellent meal and warm atmosphere. I recommend this restaurant.
Went for lunch. Classy, delicious and well worth it.
What a disappointment! We had important events to celebrate and I had wanted to experience Le Toqué, so famous, for so long! Well it was a disappointment and with the bill that followed (no surprise, we knew the prices) a lot of frustration. The dishes were ok nothing more. No explosion of flavor, tuna that we had to struggle to cut, tasteless beef fillet with decent juice, so on. The accompaniments a few pieces of vegetables (perfect cooking) but still no surprises! The service, correct, polite, in no way personalized. Different waiters, who bring you the dishes, dispatching the ingredients at a speed that required us to repeat several times, at one point we gave up. On the other hand, perfect score for the sommelier, who was very friendly, who took the time to explain the wines and their history to us. The 2 stars are dedicated to him. When we were asked how we found our experience, we very politely shared our impressions, and they explained to us that at Toqué, they served good products without distorting them .Im willing, but there has a limit, when you pay for a meal of this price you expect to have a taste experience, not that the tastes are ordinary .I can buy good products and prepare them at home. I cant believe that Le Toqués reputation was built on this kind of experience. Maybe we are at the end of the adventure?
We just finished a superb supper at Toque in Montreal! We had the tasting menu and every dish was spectacular! The wine pairings were expertly chosen and the service (Benoit, Sam and Frédéric especially) was stellar!
We didn t get a chance to do the tasting menu but ordered individual drinks. Everything was delicious and the service was over the top. Next time I ll definitely do the tasting menu!
Impeccable service!!
Nothing negative to say Staff more than attentive to your sublime dish and wine needs...to be returned without fail
Been here before covid and had an excellent time. This was my second visit and meal was not as spectacular as it was before covid (still fantastic, but not completely worth the price tag as it was before), but the sommelier was fantastic. Absolutely paired the wine well with the dishes. Decor hadnt changed, but still beautiful. Server was knowledgeable and the hostess was charming. Probably wouldnt come back since I dont think itd worth the price but good to experience at least once.
Excellent! Thank you to Xavier and his colleagues for this wonderful evening and this outstanding service. Compliments to the chefs. 03/08/2024
Very nice, the attention was very good
Outstanding cocktails, food and service! The cavetelli is to die for.
A very good restaurant overall. We went on a Wednesday so finding parking was easy. The service was top notch, but unfortunately on our anniversary there was a minor mishap when my wife was splashed with water which ruined the experience a bit. We opted for a seven-course tasting menu, accompanied by a tasting of five wines. The wines were excellent and we liked some of the dishes, although others were less to our liking. Even if we didnt fall in love with a particular dish, its a good option for those who want to discover a variety of flavors. My wife shares the same opinion. I dont know if I would return to the restaurant, but perhaps I would return to try a specific dish that piqued my curiosity, rather than for a tasting menu. In summary, a good dining experience, despite some imperfections.
We celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary there and it was memorable. Our server was very attentive and the food was delectable! We even received a small card signed by Mr. Normand Laprise. We were also able to take a tour of the kitchens. It s obvious that we re going to go back!
Definitely not worthy of the hype. The food was less than mid in my opinion. We had the tasting menu, we arrived at 9pm and didnt get out until midnight. Was horribly slow, food was bland or just gross honestly. The only items I liked were the accompaning vegetables on the dishes. After going home my stomach was also in knots after.
Will definitely be back for the tasting menu during dinner but the lunch service was fabulous
Tasting menu was exceptional. Recommend the wine pairing.
Amazing service and delicious food! Such an incredible dining experience.
Nostalgia is often wasted energy. Twenty years ago we had a fabulous dinner at Toqué. We should have let our memory remain in 2004. Tonight s meal was the most expensive of our vacation and one of the worst. For $420 Canadian with a 20% tip, the cheque was highway robbery. The space had not changed much since 2004 and was dated. What was ahead of its time twenty years ago is now behind the times. Again, we sat at the bar, but we might as been at a two top. The staff was professional, but they reserved their warmth and friendliness for the local French speakers. Camaraderie was around us, but never directed to us. Americans, caveat emptor. Menu offerings read well, sounded great, and looked nice, but the dishes themselves lacked harmony. The asparagus with lobster appetizer was the best taste of the night. My Foie Gras Terrine was a simple pâté accompanied by some discordant jelly and strawberries. It was served with one stingy piece of toasted bread. Walleye, described as such: Seared walleye confit fennel, fiddlehead, swiss chard stuffed with oyster, pak choï, gremolata, green garlic and smoked butter sauce was a mess. While the walleye was cooked well, it was bland, and the Swiss chard, and greens overwhelmed the mild taste of the fish. The chef was using seasonable ingredients without thinking of the gestalt of the dish. Nothing went well together. The Cavatelli with grilled lobster and mushrooms, roasted garlic purée, dulse, asparagus, hazelnut, mizuna purée, Parmigiano Reggiano mousse 68 lacked any harmony. The combination of the ingredients made no sense as a whole. Three out of four dishes were bad. Service was haphazard. We didn t know who our bartender or server was. Pacing was off with too long of a wait between the appetizers and entrees. Our dinner was not good, and the experience was sad. I yearned for Monarque, L Express, and Lawrence. With two glasses of wine, two cocktails, the total bill was over $400. I felt fleeced.
We experienced the tasting menu at Toqué fourteen years ago, circa 2010, and it was without question the most incredible meal I have ever enjoyed in my entire life, still to this day. It was more than a meal, it was a superfluous gastronomical experience. I still consider returning to Montreal just to go back to Toqué every year. They are doing things with food there which I did not know was possible. Treat yourself and you will see what I mean.
Le Toque earns their high marks. The three of us chose from the ala carte menu. We split four first courses and had our own entrees. The presentation was well done. We all enjoyed everything we ordered. The service was attentive and helpful. Timing was not rushed. We had a leisurely dinner and a wonderful time. Would highly recommend! I ve traveled > 5 M miles across Europe, Asia and the US and I will remember Le Toque. Great job Team Le Toque.
During our visit to Le Toqué restaurant, we had an exceptional culinary experience. Each dish prepared by Chef Allard was a true explosion of flavors, demonstrating an impressive mastery of culinary techniques and unparalleled creativity. The ingredients were of impeccable quality, and each bite was a delight for our taste buds. However, despite the undeniable quality of the cuisine, we found the price of the seven courses to be excessively high. The value for money did not meet our expectations. Another negative point concerns the billing for sparkling water. The waiter offered us still or sparkling water, and we opted for sparkling. To our surprise, we were charged $10 twice for this water, and this without having finished the first bottle. It was not mentioned up front that this water would be charged for, which added an unpleasant note to our experience. In summary, although the quality of the dishes is indisputable and Chef Allard is extremely talented, the overall cost of the experience and certain billing practices unfortunately tarnished our evening. The value for money could be greatly improved to justify such an expense.
Very uneven, between tasteless starters and sublime dishes. Very good service, noisy atmosphere and decor not very homogeneous in style
10/10 Quebec French restaurant
While I appreciate their service and surprise dish and dessert from the chef, the food itself is way overpriced compared with other unknown restaurants hidden in the neighborhoods. As some people commented, the ingredients and flavors don t come to a harmony. Nothing really impresses me except the price. If you enjoy the service more than the food itself, yes, but definitely not for foodies who cares more about having good food.
Tasting menu with no written menu was worth the surprise. Delicious!
Its quite expensive, but its a unique experience to have once in your life.
Karène makes really good food!! This evening, her mini-brownies were particularly delicious: she sought out quality local ingredients to create simply exquisite bites!! I highly recommend her!!
Toqué is renowned as one of Canadas top restaurants, and for good reason. The chic ambiance, the impeccable service, and the exquisitely sublime food all play in harmony for a superlative experience. We opted for the 7 course tasting menu paired with 5 remarkable wines. An extravagant spread gifted for our anniversary. Pricing is not for the faint of heart. If your wallet permits, then by all means, indulge!
We spent even more than we had planned here because it was the equivalent of eating utopia. I mean, if you find utopia you probably shouldn t eat it, but you can imagine. Anyway, don t eat utopia unless it s metaphorical, which is what this place is. I don t think I ve ever had a better (or more expensive) food experience. FYI it s expensive. We spent hundreds of dollars, but it was worth every dollar.
Fantastic dining experience! Attentive and well paced service. Food was exceptional, from the presentation of each dish, to the high quality ingredients and wine pairings! Highly recommend for a special event, important business lunch or simply to treat yourself for a great dining experience.
Very nice experience. Haute cuisine, in a relaxed setting. A beautiful trip that is worth the price. Dietary restrictions: The dishes are adapted according to dietary restrictions which is very appreciated.
Service was outstanding. Food was amazing.
Superb experience the service from everyone was impeccable and welcoming everything we ate was excellent.
Went for our anniversary dinner had a wonderful experience very nice quiet atmosphere custom made non alcoholic cocktails were made to our liking. I am celiac and the kitchen was very accommodating including making a few custom dishes just for me when I couldnt have others on the tasting menu. Would recommend. In fact I have reservations to go again later in the year Dietary restrictions: I am celiac and they were very accommodating including creating dishes that were safe for me
Foie gras de canard, doré, and chocolate torte were an excellent mix of flavours with perfect presentation. Rioja wine pairing worked well. The limoncello-chartreuse-gin cocktail of the day was well balanced but could have had better presentation considering how elaborate the food was. Excellent service from both the hostess and server. Friendly, helpful, and efficient. Cute decor, could have put a little more effort into music.
The Toqué experience summed up in one word: Mastery. Courteous welcome, chic and modern decor, comfortable chairs, background music. Professional service, we follow the steps to the letter. Mastered cuisine. The sauces, cooking, seasonings are executed perfectly. Everything is excellent, warm, beautiful, without noticeable errors. Everything is (almost) perfect. It perfectly meets the expectations I had. But theres a catch: It feels like a generic representation of a Montreal gourmet restaurant. The definition in the dictionary. Apart from the excellent quality of the (local ) products, the cuisine, the service and the furniture, what makes Le Toqué Le Toqué? I wish it had jumped out at me.
Went for lunch, amazing food and service, surprised me positively. Had an off-menu lobster/asparagus dish (very good), a pasta dish with mushrooms and other stuff (strong woodsy flavor that I loved), and a maple-based dessert (amazing). They have good optional wine pairings in the lunch table d hote menu with half-glass or full-glass options which is great if you don t want to drink too much, and unlike most high-end wine pairings worldwide, these actually pair well with the dishes. Will probably come back for the dinner menu next time I m in town.
Had a beautiful meal with friends here. We didn t want a long dinner so we opted for the a la cart and it was exceptional. I had the beef carpaccio and the lobster cavatelli. Both were delicious! The interior had very odd color choices and felt quite dated however that didn t detract from the food.
I had the most wonderful evening at Toque! I ordered the champagne tasting, oysters, the degustation menu and the wine pairing. Everything was wonderful starting with the team. They were kind enough open their patio just for me!! I will be back next time I am in Montreal ! I highly recommend !!
We had the tasting menu which was exceptional. Incredible service!
Normand Laprise, one of Quebecs most respected chefs, is known as the godfather of Quebec cuisine, and his reputation extends far beyond Canadas borders. Accompany the foodie who eats all over the world to eat in Montreal, you can only come to Toqué!I was lucky to get a reservation on the same day.The ingredients are well matched, the sauces are fresh and rich, and the sommelier recommended wines that were very good and matched the meal. we ordered the grilled quail, lobster, and it was beautiful and delicious. Its even better if the skin of the white asparagus is cleanly removed. Costs for 2 people $350
Great place. Intresting food with high quality products. We did enjoy, but we left without that « oomph ».
Impeccable, from A to Z. Especially the service of the bartender who was our server at the bar that evening. The presentation of the wines is simply breathtaking. Thank you for this outstanding experience!
Wonderful, a culinary classic.
Experience: My partner had informed me that it was my birthday, to which the receptionist on the phone said that Dessert would be offered and that the Chef would come to greet the table...He had not asked for anything about that. It seems that there are preferences or that Dessert has landed at the next table. It really happened. Its not time the total amount of $500 that the two poor sweets that we had already eaten 5 minutes before paying, which arrived to us just after receiving the bill with two poor candles, all accompanied by a poor card of thanks. I wasnt expecting anything except a gastronomic experience like we had already had elsewhere. The starters and main courses were good but nothing more. The little freshness of our evening was the sommelier. Very disappointing... my partner really wanted a nice moment to please me and not feel like a cash cow.
I visited here last winter, and it was one of the best fine dining experiences ever. I especially recommend the foie gras. I am willing to visit again if I get the chance.
Toqué is a culinary gem that truly delivers an exceptional dining experience through its menu dégustation. From start to finish, this restaurant exuded excellence in service, presentation, and taste. Upon stepping into Toqué, we were greeted with impeccable service that set the tone for the evening. The staff were attentive, knowledgeable, and made us feel welcomed and at ease throughout the dining experience. The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the seven-course tasting menu that proved to be a culinary journey like no other. Each dish was not only beautifully plated but also showcased a careful balance of flavors that left us wanting more. From the first bite to the last, every course was a delightful surprise, showcasing the chefs mastery in combining ingredients to create a symphony of taste. My girlfriend, Julie, and I were thoroughly impressed by the thoughtful execution of each dish and appreciated the attention to detail in every aspect of the meal. ... And the champagne pairing was excellent.
The restaurant of Montreal restaurants. He doesnt really need any introduction. Please note that the service is always impeccable and attentive and that the menu evolves with time and the season. It s a festival of colors and flavors that are always just right and deserve your time and attention. Do you have children? No problem either. As for the price, its like traveling: one from time to time to live new experiences. Consider coming at noon during the week. The May 2024 tasting menu is particularly interesting.
Amazing! Perfect service and perfect food. A truly wonderful experience.
Fabulous fine dining showcasing local Quebec producers with seasonal offerings . Superbly presented food with exceptional service and a huge wine list assisted by a great Sommelier . What a treat !
Wonderful, tasty, balanced cuisine which, unfortunately, is not within the reach of all budgets. Calm atmosphere, conducive to exchanges.
Too good!!!!!!!
7-course tasting menu with prestige wine pairing. $1700 for two total. This was disappointing given the cost. In terms of cuisine, there were excellent dishes but others were rather ordinary (the sea urchin for example, we only remember the accompaniment). The wine pairing was the best experience of the evening. The sommelier who served us was not even the appointed sommelier at the restaurant and was the most professional waiter. The service in general lacks quality for a so-called gourmet restaurant. We were served like in a good brasserie. Below expectations for a luxury experience. At comparable prices, Europea or Boulud deliver the goods much better. Sorry to be so low in the rating, but the marketing around this restaurant is unfortunately overrated.
I had an incredible 3-hour experience with their 7-course tasting menu! My favorites were the beef steak, quail, and two desserts. The beef and quail were exceptionally tender, and the accompanying sauces were bursting with flavor. Both dishes had a divine aroma when they arrived. Even though I m not usually a fan of sweet dishes, I thoroughly enjoyed their desserts. They struck a perfect balance, not overly sweet, and the sorbet with sponge cake combination was delightful. The meal began with a brown butter mousse amuse-bouche, followed by the sea urchin as the first course. While the brown butter mousse was delicious, the sea urchin lacked a bit of its distinctive flavor for my taste. Unfortunately, the complimentary bread was served cold and didn t make much of an impression compared to the other outstanding dishes. The service was fantastic. They efficiently cleaned our table, and water and wine refills were prompt. However, I found the ambiance to be a bit noisy compared to Europea, where I had dined previously. Overall, it was a memorable night at this restaurant.
An experience, a discovery, a page of history. The staff is friendly and FUNNY. One might think that its the type of restaurant where staff is drab. We laugh with the hole team. Thank for a great evening. They were able to accommodate my mother in law, celiac, doesnt eat meat or mussels. She still got the discovery menu with some tweak to fit her needs. Fantastic. Wheelchair accessibility: Yes the entrance is wheelchair accessible
Excellent welcome, friendly and relaxed, while remaining professional, in the Quebec way. The setting is also pleasant, and the restaurant highlights local products. However, it is regrettable that the menu offers practically nothing vegetarian (no starters, only one main course: gnocchi). This is all the more unfortunate as Quebec is renowned for its excellent products. It is disappointing that in 2024, a restaurant will maintain such a limited menu. Avoid Toqué restaurant if anyone in your group is vegetarian, or if you just want to be flexible. Otherwise its a good option. I dont like putting bad reviews, but I think its important to go to this restaurant with full knowledge of the facts.
Wowww! Mega Favorite for this fabulous experience as pleasant to watch as it is to savor! And what about the daring duo tasting of Champagne Cristal & DomPerignon 2013 Excellent service from Clara (and the whole team), nice meeting with Normand Laprise (so friendly), friendly atmosphere in short, experience to relive AGAIN & AGAIN!!!!
A disappointment from start to finish; Tasteless cuisine and pretentious presentation, haughty service worthy of a French Michelin star from the 80s, cheesy decoration, and far too expensive a bill for the experience offered. The icing on the cake, a dish sent back because the cooking was so bad: we are not going to charge you for it... Great lords! Unworthy of a restaurant that wants to display such standing.
Tap beer temperature is not good! Too warm, which tastes like...
Wonderfully terrific! The servers(especially the asian guy who was probably assigned in our area) we had were all real courteous, proactive, quick and accomodating! They also speak english. Food was also exceptional, a real quebecois palate experience! We had a tour of their kitchen and it was absolutely a clean and organized process. The vibes and atmosphere was calming. Table spacing was also appropriate for some deep conversation. They accept credit/debit cards(not discover). Valet parking available. If we ever go back to montreal for another fine dining meal, we surely be back here once again
I only have one thing to say: Incredible. From the service to the dishes, everything is top notch. It s an extraordinary experience to live. I have rarely seen better. I thank you for this welcome. I highly recommend this place.
Great food
A1 service A1 cuisine here the restaurant of chef Norman Laprise who is very friendly, after several visits always satisfied, I ate the best time ever fatty pan-fried in this restaurant
Food was amazing. Service was impeccable
Overall a very good experience eating here. Reasonably good selection of dishes for lunch. The wine list is also wuite interesting. Service is friendly and welcoming.
While the service was exceptional, unfortunately, the main course did not meet our expectations.
We went there for the big Kit! Blind tasting menu accompanied by prestige wines 4 guests 4 tasting menus, 1 regular wine pairing, 1 prestige at $470 for wine only It s more of a culinary experience, the dishes were succulent, sophisticated, local cuisine, the service was WOW!!! The waiters and sommeliers form a solid team, having worked in catering myself is a plus, which is really appreciated +++ The description of the wines, I loved it! The choices among the greatest, what a privilege to taste these products! This restaurant is an institution in Montreal that must be preserved and encouraged Thank you very much to the whole team
If you want to admire beautiful plates and taste no flavor, drink champagne in wine glasses and regret the aftertaste, pay an exorbitant price for mediocre food and be harassed at the door for a tip, then you might enjoy #Toqué. As for me, the place left a bitter taste in the mouth. The maître-D who stations himself at the door to shake down the tourist patrons for a tip, is an ill mannered brut who would be better suited as bouncer at a club. As one of the best restaurants in Montreal, the quality is less than distasteful. #mauvaisapétit
Great tasting menu and wine pairing.
Ive been to Le Toqué 4 times in about 5 years: its always the same, impeccable on every level. The welcome, the atmosphere, the service and obviously above all the cuisine, this is an exceptional restaurant which uses local ingredients as much as possible. The desserts are particularly sought after and delicious, its worth the detour just for that. A restaurant that we can be proud of, the best in Montreal in this style in my opinion.
Just flawless every time. Everything is excellent. Food service place all...
Pure happiness! Impeccable service, both professional and warm, a joyful atmosphere but where the noise level is very acceptable and cuisine of extreme refinement, dazzling, astonishing, bewitching. Normand Laprise at the top of his art! CONGRATULATIONS to the whole team and see you soon!
Excellent experience at Le Toqué. The service was attentive and friendly and the cuisine was spectacular. Ive been wanting creamed corn for weeks and been disappointed in other restaurants; here, I was able to savor a splendid cream, with generous fillings and explosive flavors. The rest of the meal was exquisite as well, from the cocktails to the dessert. Rare downsides: the main plates were barely warm, so our dishes quickly cooled while we were tasting, and the table of 5 who were near us and thought it appropriate to chat on FaceTime, volume very loud, for at least 20 minutes . My partner and I were unable to hold a conversation during this time. The lack of education of certain customers is certainly not the responsibility of the restaurant team, who seemed as stunned as we were, but diplomatic solutions should be considered to deal with this type of situation which can become very painful for the other guests. The place was not very busy that evening; Would it have been possible to improvise a small VIP section for customers lacking attention? It is sad to have to consider solutions to this kind of scenario; unfortunately, it seems likely that we will have to face it more and more often, the label being of more and more variable geometry these days.
I did the tasting menu here 20 years ago and it was the best meal I had in my life until that point. This week I brought my husband here for the first time. We did the tasting menu again it was great. What really set it apart was the service and attention to every detail. My husband order a unique beer to drink and the server was able to recommend on of my favorite wines by me only telling him what I liked and didn t. The food came and each plate was a different experience. It was a very enjoyable evening.
The food was simply excellent. My taste buds still remember it. Perfect quantity, just enough to enjoy and just enough to not feel like youve eaten too much. The service was perfect, the staff know exactly when to come and bother you, when you are finished etc. great. The only negative note was that the majority of our plates had chips (its not serious but the chef should have had them changed). I find it a shame in this type of restaurant that this type of detail is not rectified. Maybe you should think about renewing your dishes? That wont stop me from coming back, on the contrary. The atmosphere was completely serene, calm, perfect for a romantic meal, the tables had a good distance between them. And my god the price (yes its a budget), but so affordable for this type of cuisine and service. I highly recommend. We will come back for sure.
Bravo, this gastronomic place stratospherically exceeded our expectations. What a wonderful evening we spent there with Vincent serving and the whole team in the dining room. Thank you Mr. Laprise for allowing us to experience such beautiful moments! Cheers!
Best dining experience of my life! Yannick gave us excellent service
Very good Montreal table
To begin with, I travel a lot around the world and I occasionally allow myself to eat in high-end restaurants. I live in Montreal and I thought it would be good to try this gastronomic icon of this city. My partner and I had a tasting menu. Excellent food, carefully prepared using well-selected local produce. Very well selected wine pairing. Well done to the chef and sommelier. There were 7 courses with 5 wine pairings. The portions were very small, a little too much for my taste. My partner was okay, but I would have eaten a little more. The service, in general, was OK. By the way, I expected much better from a restaurant of this reputation. The main server had experience and it showed. The others on the other hand, hmmm, like robots who took to reciting what they had to say without really knowing what they were saying, in addition to spilling water on the table and my partner... The decor is really outdated. It looks like a restaurant from the 70s that hasnt changed since. Its the same thing for the waiters behavior...it was a little dark where we were seated. it was difficult to see the dishes (the colors) clearly. In conclusion, I expected a lot more from Toqué. I was disappointed, really a shame, especially after a bill of almost $1000. Sorry, I wont be going there again....
AMAZING. No exaggeration here- the service was great, and the food was spectacular. Very well executed and presented. This restaurant really is everything they say they are. I highly recommend to make this a priority experience while visiting Montreal; especially for times of celebration.
Recently dined at Toqué! in Montreal and was thoroughly impressed. The food was exceptional, showcasing a perfect blend of creativity and flavor. Each dish was a delight, both in presentation and taste, reflecting the high standards of the kitchen. The overall dining experience was just as remarkable, with attentive service and a welcoming ambiance. I would highly recommend for anyone seeking a memorable dining experience.
Impeccable service and cuisine. All dishes really have a fine and refined taste with perfectly adequate portions. Anyway, my wife and I went there for our tenth anniversary of dating and it was a perfect evening.
Dishes of unparalleled quality and more than efficient service! I recommend 100% :)
Great food, excellent atmosphere and very professional service. Ill return soon!!!
Indisputably superior cuisine. Impeccable service. Sober decor. Calm and cozy atmosphere. Finally a restaurant where we can talk and talk. We received a gift certificate for a tasting menu with wine pairing, before the pandemic. It was honored 100% with no extra charge. Well done and thank you to the whole team.
TL:DR- Excellent tasting menu and wine pairing, expensive and time consuming. We had the tasting menu and the discovery wine pairing. Each dish and wine pair were explained as they came, so Ill cover them roughly; Amuse bouche- smoked fish and shitake mushrooms in a dashi broth. First course- Marinated scallops (also on the A La Carte menu), with an Austrian reisling, a 2021 Heiligenstein Second course- Salmon gravlax(from the a la carte also), with a 2022 Les Safres chateauneuf du Pape. Third course- either Foie gras terrine( on the a la carte also) and a 2021 Cuvee Domain Juracon or Sea Snails with a green sauce, and a 2021 Barrell aged assrytiko from Santorini Fourth course- A turkey and cranberry filled pasta, with a 2021 Santa Barbara Pinot Noir, Presquile Fifth course(main)- grass fed Quebec beef filets, and a 2015 Jean Pierre Gaussen, Bandol Sixth course- Clos-des-Roches and Le Fleurmier de Charlevoix cheese plate with a Thunevin calet Maury, 1984, or a pre dessert sweet, cinnamon and maple sorbets with caramel popcorn and a (graham?) cookie, and a 2021 catawba(?) Seventh course- White chocolate ganache and pumpkin seed oil, with a incredible Louise Prescott ice cider, 2012 After dessert- strawberry gummies(?) and caramels, with coffee, tea, or a digestive. Each dish and pairing were well balanced and well explained, by incredible staff members. Everyone was helpful, professional, and knowledgeable. Be prepared to spend both a long time and a large sum of money here. We spent over four hours, but it didnt feel like it at all. Final bill including tip was nearly $500ca per person, but managed not to feel pretentious or overpriced.
Good restaurant. The presentation of the dishes is refined. Original flavors. I appreciate the service, the waiters know how to wait until everyone has finished to clear up. A detail in Montreal but very appreciable. The atmosphere doesnt stand out more than that. Very good for a business dinner in the city center.
This place is a must !
Richly layered, perfectly seasoned and full of surprising little details. There are many cute little touches in the dessert, the sweetness and sourness are perfectly balanced, the aroma of roasted nuts is very charming, and the overall experience is great
I had the privilege of celebrating my birthday at Toqué Montreal, and I must say, it was an unforgettable dining experience. From the impeccable service to the outstanding food, every aspect of the evening surpassed my expectations. To kick off the night, the staff at Toqué Montreal surprised me with a personalized birthday card, which instantly made me feel special and welcomed. This thoughtful gesture was a testament to their attention to detail and commitment to creating a memorable experience for their guests. We opted for the degustation choice, and it turned out to be an excellent decision. The menu was carefully curated, showcasing the culinary expertise and artistry of the chefs. Each dish was a delightful masterpiece, expertly prepared and exquisitely presented. One of the standout aspects of the dining experience at Toqué Montreal was the service. The knowledgeable and friendly staff took the time to explain each dish, providing insights into the flavors, ingredients, and the inspiration behind the creation. This level of attentiveness and willingness to engage with guests truly enhanced the overall dining experience. The food itself was nothing short of extraordinary. Every bite was a burst of flavors, with ingredients that were impeccably sourced and treated with utmost respect. The attention to detail in the presentation was evident in each dish, as they were not only visually stunning but also a feast for the palate. Each course seamlessly flowed into the next, carefully curated to create a gastronomic journey that left us in awe. Toqué Montreal truly embodies the essence of fine dining. The combination of exceptional service, outstanding food, and a warm, welcoming ambiance makes it an ideal destination for special occasions or simply to indulge in an extraordinary culinary experience. Overall, my birthday celebration at Toqué Montreal was nothing short of perfection. I left feeling incredibly satisfied, both in terms of the culinary delights and the overall experience. If you are in Montreal and looking for a dining experience that is sure to wow your taste buds, I highly recommend paying a visit to Toqué Montreal.
Food was terrible for such a supposed 5 star restaurant Parking: $22 added to your bill Food : 2/5 |
Incredible food! The tasting menu was outstanding and the wine pairings were perfect. Loved the wine education.
Fantastic service and incredible food. Highly recommend trying their tasting menu. It did not disappoint!
In May 2023, I ordered the tasting menu and the 5 wine pairing. The flavors were fabulous!!! Every bite made me smile. I did not want the evening to end. Every staff person I interacted with was amazing! Everyone took their time and explained each plate and wine. Thank you, Toqué! for a lovely experience.
Outstanding from start to finish. A delightful evening. Amazing food, original and perfect wine pairing and friendly attentive service. Everything a fine dining experience should be.
Great service, the food was sublime, very nice atmosphere, in short, very nice evening, mentioned our server Benoît.
Soooo amazing from start to finish. The food and wine pairings were phenomenal. Every meal besides the last cut of meat wasn t the best, and the only reason I wouldn t have given that dish 5-stars was because the cut had a little chewy tendon in it. No fault to the chef. It was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Again, the food was PHENOMENAL. Hats off to the Chef and team. The service was exquisite. Well looked after and very knowledgeable in food and especially wine. Being a seat for one at the bar, I would ve like to converse with the staff/bartender a little more, but that s ok. Decor was beautiful. I loved the extra touch with repurposing the chipped plates with gold flakes. Wonderful thought there. The washrooms could transition better though. They don t keep up with the beauty of the dining room. All in all, AMAZING!!! I ll head back for sure when I m in town next.
It was my third time at Toqué and I must say I was disappointed by my visit. I stopped recommending the restaurant to my acquaintances and friends. I went back to celebrate a milestone about two weeks ago during lunch and the menu did not wow me or my companion at all. I noticed that the plates remained on the table despite being finished for a very long time. The waiter attending the tables near us was wearing an apron/uniform that had a very unpleasant smell (which was noticeable despite the distance!) Im not sure if I just happened to go on a bad day or if the post-pandemic is to blame but Im very disappointed.
Toque was disappointing. The meal, served over four hours, was mostly forgettable. The service was fine, but was at times stuffy and both over and under attentive. Our group of five, including a vegetarian, got the tasting menu. To their credit, a few dishes stood out. They were: the airy, salty and rich corn amuse bouche (which everyone received); the light and refreshing tomato gazpacho (vegetarian only); the deeply flavored tomato tart (vegetarian only); the scallops, a smooth mix of buttery, briny and pickled flavors; and the best dish, the dessert, a refreshing mixture of fruit, texture and taste. Unfortunately, most of the remaining dishes, including the main courses, lacked creativity or flavor. The vegetarian main course was a mediocre pasta with vegetables. The meat main course was pigeon, which was tough and bland. Meats and flavors were repeated throughout the meal, but not in novel ways. If youre looking for a dynamic, exciting meal, I would recommend looking elsewhere. We enjoyed several of the citys upscale wine bars here that served inspired, creative dishes. Vegetarian options: Options were hit or miss. Dietary restrictions: They are accommodating of dietary restrictions and preferences.
The best restaurants in Montreal by far. Only one in the city that delivers a true Michelin star experience, and a real brigade kitchen! Staff is beyond knowledgable and friendly. Recommend the tasting menu!
Best restaurant in Montreal/Quebec for both lunch and dinner. Toqué would be worthy of 3* Michelin. Chef Normand Laprise is a culinary pioneer. All the dishes are spectacular without exception. If there is a restaurant you must try and spoil your taste buds Toqué is definitely the best choice.
Good food
We had a delicious lunch here. Beautifully presented dishes, very good wine and professional service.
All can I say is amazing!! The atmosphere is relaxing, the service spectacular, and the food . The FOOD!!! Wow!!! The flavours Michelin star quality in my mind. Will certainly be going again for a special occasion!
A year late posting this, but wow, super delicious flavours and excellent service. Highly recommend Toque!
Not bad, but the tasting menu costs around CA$ 200 before tax. A rating of 3.5-4 seems fair for the price.
I drag your attention to this part of the menu
Tasting menu with wine pairing 5 glasses wine meal and services of professional experience
Even if the decor is really 90s/ early 2000 the food and the service is outstanding and by far one of the best tables in the city. I strongly suggest to use the valet service since parking around is either hard to find in the streets or as expensive in the private parkings around.
Wow I went last Saturday and Im still on cloud nine I felt like a very important woman as soon as we arrived the maître hotel Frédéric went up to our table and all the waiters and waitresses and the semelier served us and all the attention that you brought us he brought me my dessert with a small candle and an autographed card from all the team and Norman the appeasement really touched me and to finish in style my son asked the butler if he could us showing you the kitchen was the coup de grace I will keep this beautiful evening in my heart and highly recommend it to you, what extraordinary service from this whole beautiful team xxxxx
Service was excellent, however i did not enjoy the main courses. We had the dégustation menu and the main courses were tuna belly thinly sliced which made me felt sick and also baby pigeons. Both main course were unfamiliar and i had to return them. I was quite dissapointed and it didn t taste good. I went to cheaper restaurants for dégustation with a higher quality. The decor with very outdated curtains, carpets and the waiters were dressed like they were in the 1990s. It felt like the restaurant got trapped in time. A renovation is definitely needed to modernize themselves. The only thing that was good were the desserts.
Really good restaurant, service is amazing and accommodate for someone celiac. I highly recommend
I ate at Toque for lunch and came away disappointed with the food quality. The beef tartare appetizer looked lovely, but was underseasoned and didnt hold together. It was cut with sweet gherkins and parmesean cheese which didnt pair well with the meat. For a main, we had the halibut which was dry and, again, underseasoned. I did enjoy the side serving of mushrooms, but found the leeks undercooked and the eggplant not that great. The coffee was warm, not hot. The best part of the meal were the complimentary little desserts. The service was excellent as was the presentation, but unfortunately, that doesnt make up for the underwhelming food.
Very refined cuisine with either tasting menu or a la carte The terrine de foie gras (avec sa confiture de cerises de terre, purée de prunes, pommes, yaourt caramélisé, pistache, brioche), lamb, quail and halibut were all exquisite with a series of flavorful sauces (eg Madeira) and reductions and tidbits (eg chanterelles, agrumes, capucines) to mix in on your forkful. Great attentive service and good wine advice and excellent wines by the glass. We wished we had skipped lunch so that we would ve had room for the tempting desserts!
Amazing food and service. Highly recommend the desserts
This was my 2nd visit to Toqué. Instead of the tasting menu, we went à la carte this time. Top notch service. Ordered the acras and quail appetizers, lamb and filet de boeuf mains, and mousse de café. Loved all the flavor combinations in each dish. Everything was beautifully plated, too. We were surprised to receive complimentary amuse bouches and sweet finishes. Definitely lives up to the hype. Vegetarian options: I overheard the table next to us ordering the tasting menu without meat nor seafood.
They swarm to make you feel good when you arrive. Leave you thirsty afterwards. Lack of respect. A thousand dollars later. Thumbs down from la mère of Montreal.
Dined in this restaurant recently for the first time, and was very much looking forward to it. It was a midweek evening dinner, and I chose the à la carte option. My first observation was that this restaurant lacks ambience. The lighting is unpleasant, and the colors are not very attractive and it just lacks an intimate atmosphere as one would hope for. I chose the squash soup to start. It was horrifically bland, served barely lukewarm, and had no flavor. I asked for some bread to accompany it, and all they could offer was sourdough. No other breads were available, which was indicative of the lack of imagination and creativity coming from this kitchen. I ate less than a third of the soup. For main course I chose the roast suckling pig. It was described to me by the waiter as very tender and braised over a long period of time. The presentation of this dish was fussy, and the pork was chewy and the dish was virtually cold. I feel they spent so much time on the look of the dish that by the time reached the customer it had gotten cold. It was hugely disappointing. I decided to forgo dessert as I had no confidence in the kitchen at this stage. Then I ordered a brewed coffee and milk. When this arrived, it was cold, and I sent it back. The server then returned with an Americano, stating that this was the best option if I wanted the coffee to be hot! This statement really sums up the level of confidence behind the food and beverage in this restaurant! Toque is a mere shadow of its former glory. In its present form, I would never, ever contemplate going back again.
Simply excellent welcome, we arrived without reservation, full restaurant, but we were found a place at the bar, served at the best, tasting on the advice of Fred... a delight for everything. A big thanks to all of you, Adrien Déborah and Matteo who was sleeping on a corner of the sofa.
A simply extraordinary gastronomic experience! From the moment you are welcomed, you are treated with great care, the staff are wonderful in the service. The plates are presented as a work of art, because they are. This restaurant really has an eye for detail. Each dish is served with care, the flavors are unique and prepared to perfection.
I actually enjoyed the meal I had at Toque. The biggest issue to the meal was the service. Our server kept disappearing and when he was visible, appeared to be chatting it up with his coworkers. During this time, weve accumulated empty cocktail glasses and wanted to close our check. Not sure if it was indifference on his part, but he could not be bothered.
Service was very good. Food was good, but a little bit underwhelming. The tasting menu was interesting. I would try again but not sure it was worth the price. Perhaps my palette is not sophisticated enough for this restaurant. The deserts were very good.
Great experience. Love at first bite. From the amuse bouche to desert. Service is on point and friendly.
Excellent very Quebecois place with lots quebecois I love it worth the money c est excellent
Everything about Toque! is fantastic! From the service to the most delectable menu items! And they were so very accommodating of our 9 month old child! Thank you so much for an incredible experience.
They were so exceptional! Their food was divine and so exquisitely prepared and presented. They were accommodating to our small child and a highchair was available. Kid-friendliness: Highchair available
10/10. A must! Service is spot on. Food was next level enjoyable (wow wow wow). And the atmosphere was comfortable, chic, and quirky! Very upscale but worth it for sure. Portions were actually larger than expected - I never say that.
Restaurants in Montréal serving lunch seem to be a bit of a rarity these days, so I was very happy to find that Restaurant Toqué is still serving their table dhôte! It was a great experience from start to finish, with the set menu offering a wide variety of choices to suit all tastes. Presentation of each dish was second-to-none and the paired wines were all excellent. The restaurant seems to be in that perfect niche where it could work equally well for both a casual or more formal meal, there were some tourists but there were also plenty of corporate diners, understandable given how few of the best restaurants in Montréal are open for lunch! Service throughout the afternoon from Clara was excellent. She explained all the items perfectly and kept my glass topped up throughout the service. So merci to Clara for helping make this lunch go so smoothly! Overall a really enjoyable experience and a fantastic way to while away the hours. Would definitely recommend for a memorable meal in Montréal.
Nice evening!
Geniunely first class in every respect. Service par excellence. Wonderful dinner.
I don t want to slash on your restaurant but been to many Michelin restaurants and yours doesn t even come close. We always do one two three stars you re out and now you re out. Atmosphere-1 service -1 we were only 2 people and she still gave us the wrong plates and we ordered a $695 bottle of wine and it was our 40th anniversary but nobody cared
Nice place for a lunch, great service and the food was pretty good (though the lunch menu is a bit limited) Dietary restrictions: They were very friendly about handling my lactose intolerance
What a great experience Le Toqué is! The lunch service was perfect, the staff attentive and beyond my expectations. Outstanding service and carefully composed dishes. The affinities and mesh of flavors of each dish were delicious and memorable. Quebec gastronomy at its best!
Very good experience. The staff is very attentive, the food is excellent. I recommend 100%.
I was excited to visit Toque, a name on the canadas100best list we ve yet to check off. We were a party of 4, two of which are vegans. We called ahead to verify the restaurant could accommodate 2 vegan tasting menus and 2 regular tasting menus. The restaurant confirmed it would be no problem, both over the phone and at the restaurant. Unfortunately there was a communication issue with the kitchen and we all ended up with vegan dishes. Im open to vegan food, but we were looking forward to the regular 7 course experience. When confronting the staff, they acknowledged their mistake and offered us an extra quail dish, which was a nice gesture but made things a bit awkward as our vegan friends waited. The restaurant is a bit dated, especially the staff uniforms. Although clean, the fruit flies around our food and drinks was definitely a downer. Considering the reputation and what we paid, I expected more from Toque. It was a disappointing dining experience, that stems from poor service.
At a cost of over $1,100 for a group of four, the experience was wholly unsatisfying. We dined here last week and chose the 7-course tasting menu. Five of the dishes were mediocre/ok, and two were unpalatable. Unfortunately, the evening was made worse by the incessant presence of fruit flies for the latter half of the evening. -- The service was subpar. Example 1) When multiple dishes went uneaten, the staff didn t enquire as to why // or offered any alternatives. Example 2) We told our server one of our guests was allergic to seafood and another was vegan unfortunately, we were all given strictly vegan dishes (because, I assume, it was less work) it was only on the fifth dish, when this was communicated to the server that the last two dishes served contained any meat (one of which was a dessert).
Delicious and interesting food combinations. Excellent wine pairings and wonderful service.
Had a satisfying experience at lunch with a colleague. Staff were cordial and friendly, while maintaining a professional demeanor. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Yannick, our server, provided recommendations with appropriate descriptions in a more or less candid manner, which was appreciated. Timeliness of delivery was good, and detailed descriptions of the courses and provenance provided. My colleague and I were very satisfied with both our entrées and main courses. The veal tartar and suckling pig being the highlights, although the beef tatami was also quite satisfying. The sticky toffee apple date dessert was good, but having recently been to North Africa, the desserts featuring dates there were hard to beat. Prices were quite reasonable, given the quality and reputation of the venue. Staff were kind enough to let us linger well after closing. A quality establishment all round.
Overall, very good experience. I highly recommend it. In the vicinity of a lot of businesses, a nice spot to dine in a professional setting. The vibe is mainly professional during weekdays. We went for lunch, the menu was varied that it could please any taste. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. Vegetarian options: Many vegetarian options available.
Overrated for a « Grande Table du Monde » . For a 7-course dinner in this price range you can and you should expect more. Most dishes were not really creative to say the least and somewhat half-hearted with some components not being well seasoned despite their felt high quality (for example the amuse-bouche consisting of seasonal vegetables in dashi broth was very monotonous, the fish dish was rather flat, the celery gratin coming with the main meat dish lacking salt, cold and not rather simplistic, with it came sautéed mushrooms which were also missing « pep »). The service is good and in line with what you can expect from a more high-end restaurant. Ambiente is overall relatively simple, nothing to write books about. I have been at different « Grandes Tables du Monde » restaurants in France, Germany and Belgium and they can not really be compared. Translated into Michelin stars, this would barely be 1 Michelin star based on the menu I had today unfortunately. Nonetheless, the prices compare to a 2 to 3 Michelin star restaurant in Europe. It s a pity because I had high expectations given the restaurant s status in Montreal.
I had high expectations for this restaurant and...they were overrated. Firstly, the decor was very sober and elitist. The staff, I must admit, were exemplary during the services. But the big disappointment was the dishes. I started with cold cuts (19) and quail (31) as a starter, then cavatelli squash (59) as a main course. The quail and the main course disappointed me a lot! (I was still hungry). The value for money ($151.77), Im sorry, no, it wasnt worth it. I wish you good luck!
Excellent service and excellent craftsmanship, but somewhat lacking in innovation and experimentation...
Very simple and very chic place! Unparalleled service like never before! We were there for a dinner and the menu and food are very creative and varied! Very good.
A crazy taste experience, sick service, thank you for this wonderful evening that I spent at your restaurant
Quality/price good. The decor is a little more old-fashioned than I would have thought... Good service and kindness from the staff.
Superb experience. My girlfriend and I loved it. We tried their 7-course tasting menu and we were not disappointed! I wasnt expecting a slightly more modern decor but thats still a detail. The red, orange and turquoise colors contrast a bit with the type of restaurant but it is still very chic.
Great food, and amazing service from Clara
