The food court itself has a fantastic vibe—an open kitchen concept with great energy and tasteful decor that creates a welcoming atmosphere. I was thrilled to see a Haitian spot among the options and couldn’t wait to try it out. I ordered the “L’Haitienne” plate, and overall, it did not disappoint. The griot was excellent—tender, fresh, and packed with authentic Haitian flavor. The pikliz added the perfect tangy kick, and the plate also included accras and plantains, both of which were well-prepared and delicious. The rice was decent, though not a standout, and the plate didn’t initially come with sauce. However, when we requested some, the staff kindly provided it at no extra cost, and it turned out to be absolutely delicious, tying all the flavors together. The service was just okay—not bad, but nothing remarkable. Still, the food and the vibrant setting made up for it. If you’re in the mood for authentic Haitian food, this spot is worth checking out!
Fabulous place for Caribbean & Haitian cuisine. Located in the bustling Time Out Market, it's a popular choice. We had our favorites, jerk chicken and rum oxtail. Both were huge portions, with delicious peas & rice and crispy plantains. The ultimate was meeting and being served by the Chef himself, Chef Paul Toussaint. His kind hospitality and generous juice offering will be remembered. Amazing experience, great food, fun ambience in downtown Montreal.
The curries are nice and filling. Slow service in comparison to the other TimeOut stations.
This Jambalaya is a very "sad"jalaya. You can look at it, plain rice with seafood toppings.
Great food, served fresh! I’m not a vegan but I’m always appreciative of seeing intentional vegan items on a menu: The squash curry was filling and the dish’s flavours were varied yet balanced. Very well done!
Great location! Tasty food, a little overpriced for the portions and ingredients. The service could be improved with staff that are knowledgeable about the menu and ingredients. The full grilled fish was delicious! I would definitely be returning!
Disappointed. The fried chicken sandwich was served with bones (several) in meat. Had to use knife and fork to debone chicken and rebuild my sandwich :(. The plantain fries were also fairly cold. Didn't finish my meal. While the chicken itself was delicious, if I had wanted to use a knife and fork would have ordered fried chicken or 1/2 jerk.
The food was delicious! I have never tried Haitian/ Caribbean food but it was definitely amazing. I ordered this dish called “ le haitien” which was pork, rice and beans. The service was not very impressive, when I asked the staff if he could recommend me some dish, he seemed to be impatient though.
Who uses boned chicken for a sandwich? Also the sandwich and plantain fries were so greasy. I could only have one bite.
Fast service, good quantity and delicious, the pork griots are to die for The best restaurant in Time Out
a great discovery!
Beautiful presentation, fast service and very good taste. On the other hand, I received the pork at room temperature and you do not receive the sauce on the side, it is put in the dish directly and there is not enough for my taste.
Absolutely insulted with what they allowed to serve me. The seafood Jambalaya had to be one if the most saddest plates I ve ever seen. Rice with risotto texture and a taste of heavy campbells chicken broth. Only two shrimps, two muscles, a pathetic baby crab stuck in the middle of the rice with zero meat. Simply looking like finding a mouse in your food. Two paper thin slivers of a sausage. On top of it all of it was dry with zero flavour other than the campbells broth rice. I do not understand why I didn t bring it back for a refund. Incredibly garbage and insulting to serve that. I can only believe all the other plates are just as cheap, tasteless and simply put dogshit. I am sorry. No one should be served and treated by this place.
The dish is good but nothing more. The pikliz were extremely vinegary, we couldnt eat them. The plantain fries are a little too dry. The chicken enhances the dish because it is very good
I love the Griot. The pork was succulent, the rice having eaten it in other less recognized restaurants, correct but nothing more. The portions are good. I would have had more pieces of pork. I think I had 5-6 pieces. I was impressed by the little battered ball. It was delicious! The accompaniment of a small salad at La Pikliz was good. In short, I liked it but I have known better and more affordable ones for the price. The staff was kind and smiling.
How does KFC have more seasoning in their chicken? The fried chicken sandwich was disgusting. Traditional Haitian food would never be that bland and mostly fat.
workers need to learn customer service.... ordered SIX plates, told them put hot sauce and sauce on side... they forgot.. wasnt the first time.... smh
Very good! I recommend!
There was legit nothing good in the ceviche. It tasted like canned fish with no flavor and the thin banana chips looked good but was softer than the humidity in mtl. Salad was basic but we came for a ceviche not a dish a child could have done, plus they forgot to give us our juice. avoid at all cost
I loved my meal. Thank you for the wonderful service.
BLAND. Got the jerk chicken and the rice was bland, can barely taste any spice. The plantain was neither sweet nor savory - it just tasted like starch. The chicken was cooked right but tasted just okay. The papaya salad packed a punch in terms of sourness and saltiness but that wasn t enough to save the plate.
Jerk chicken plate is excellent and fairly priced
I had a vegetarian squash carrier. If it were possible I would have given it 0 stars. They served me hard rice as if it was from the day before and had just been reheated. Even McDonalds would be of better quality. Very disappointed. I dont recommend it at all for the lack of freshness of the dishes.
Excellent taste, but too small for the price
Best griot Ive ever ate in a restaurant!! The only reason I didnt give 5 stars is the price for the plantains (not enough in the plate).
While the surf and turf was very tasty and well prepared, the beef was hard and chewy. The lobster was perfectly cooked and seasoned but the beef picanha was hard and impossible to chew. Truly unfortunate. Maybe I picked the wrong dish.
Best ceviche in the world! I ate it yesterday for dinner, I m eating it again this afternoon for dinner! I would make the trip to Quebec again just to come back and eat it. Well done!
Among the only empty restaurants in Time Out Market. Ridiculous quantity, exorbitant prices and insulting employees! Run away!
In general the meal was good. The griot was succulent and the oxtal too. However, the pikliz was worthy of a coleslaw from St-Hubert.
Excellent oxtail, thank you!
excellent goat curry
Jambalaya with 2 tiny shrimp, 2 small slices of sausage for $25, its disappointing. Do not recommend!
SCAM!! I just realized that all the restaurants in Paul Toussaint are just lies and too expensive for the value for money. All their dishes are tasteless and of poor quality and too small quantity. This is really dishonest. Absolutely Avoid
They serve raw chicken cold rice small portions and won t even take back the plate I returned . My prediction; next counter that will be closing. Sorry
Tried 1st time herk chicken but it was so tasty and juicy recommend to everyone to try one time altleast. If I go I will definitely go to this place and eat again. Thank You! Food
I liked the fried chicken sandwich
Good price for the oxtail, noce employees!
Way too salty and overpriced
We had the jerk chicken pea and plantain rice, this was very disappointing the chicken was dry and had no flavour. Would not recommend eating here.
The griot was delicious.
I am haitian and I like to try spots and it wasn t that good. The griot was tender, but the rice was so weird. It tasted like uncle ben with haitian spices. It s not riz collé, but riz cafétéria
I would have added a star if the service was good. I didnt expect to be ignored like this. The portions are tiny for the price & honestly it disappoints me because I love Haitian food. The stuck rice lacked a little taste, and the accras were soft... Fortunately, I wasnt too hungry because the oxtail was quite small despite the fact that it was very well seasoned. I only start with the Haitian dish which comes with griot. On the other hand, the piz like was unique, you can taste both the pickling marinade and the scotch cap. For these prices please serve at least large, weighed bananas. The reception needs to be improved.
Amazing food by an amazing Chef and Staff!!!
Did not receive the right dish and not exceptional, sorry
excellent Haitian food. perfect plantains, good portion, good quality however, on several occasions menu items were not available. disappointing. I was hoping that this Haitian restaurant would be different from the others, but no. it confirms the reputation of Haitian businesses in Montreal.
Had the oxtail, was fine but not worth the price. The plantain were also very bland.
I ordered the coconut squash dish and asked if it was gluten free, the guy at the cash register asked and I was assured that there is none in this dish; I can confirm that there was gluten and I am very disappointed that restaurants do not better train their staff when it comes to allergies.... The dish itself was very good though but didnt really taste like coconut. Generous portion
Big joke: the bokit is a chicken burger (absolutely burnt in fact). Buy frozen acras and make them at home, it will be better
Food is great though Ive found it be a little too salty at times. Wish the portions were a little more balanced since its usually mostly rice and a tiny bit of meat. Still, great spot for Caribbean food!
very difficult to reach
Delicious it has a very special touch I loved it I highly recommend it go aside the place is very comfortable
As a Haitian, I expected much better, I was really disappointed. Their accra was without seasoning, the rice was salty and their pikliz was too tangy, I barely touched my dish. This does not do Haitian cuisine justice at all. :(
Really delicious
The jambalaya was not fresh, I got sick. I dont recommend.
The dishes look tasty and the smells are interesting! I only tasted two things but I would go back.
Glad theyre back!!!!!!!!
Wish I could offer a review of the food but its been 35 minutes since Ive ordered, and I still havent seen my sandwich. Ive asked and was told it would be only 5 minutes longer. But thats also passed now too. Its disappointing. Sadly, the food wasnt worth the wait. Missing the plantain and the empanada beef was burnt. Hopefully they can get sorted.
Cerviche was bland, the sweet potato crisp doesnt suit. The plantains tasted like sad. Its tough and tasteless... I feel like the sole of my foot is probably more flavorful than those plantains. The jambalaya was ok. The seafood wasnt fresh, and the mussels only had shells on. Its more like a risotto than African food however. Overall the price is really quite high for very low quality /average cooking.
Yeah, not great for $30. 2 shrimps, 2 mussels, 2 small pieces of sausage, half a bite of crab and just okay rice that drips too much vinegar. Go to Kojax instead for half the price.
It was really delicious. I recommend!
I loved it, the meal was super tasty! its worth it!
Delicious but the portions are ridiculous: 3 tablespoons for the ceviche: $16 excluding taxes. (Times out)
I ordered the Haitian and super disappointed. the dish was super super salty. I informed them that the dish was very salty and they informed me that the recipe had been changed since covid. So the salt replaced the dish completely. its abused.
I thoroughly enjoyed the grilled fish (sea bream)! The slightly sour and spicy sauce was amazing with a nice little kick. The amount of fish can easily feed 2 people.
Food was amazing lady that made my food was the bomb...suggested I drink Ting...you should do the same
Pork griot, excellent dish. Finally a different choice.
I was really looking forward to a flavourful experience and got the opposite. The ceviche was bland as were the plantains.
Had lunch here today. Very good!!!!
Delicious experience at Time Out Market! I tried their Haitian, a griot de porc (pork shoulder) with several good things inside. Pork itself was not dry at all, crispy from being double cooked. The spicy and vinegary salad went well with the rice with more subtle spices, the little crunchy donut, the sweetness of the plantain and the creamy texture of the beans here and there!
Nothing is wrong... First of all, the beepers didnt work, so its difficult to get your food hot if you dont watch the counter. I ordered the Haitian and what a disappointment! 5 pieces of dry and very salty pork, 1 cod accra without any taste, overfried, the rice also very salty. Strictly speaking, if the price was reasonable I would have understood, but whats more, its still very expensive for the quality of the dish... Very disappointed, I wouldnt eat there again and I dont recommend it to anyone.
Had LHaïtien and it definitely made me want to go back for seconds.
Wow what a delight! The jerk chicken was tasty with the fried rice which is one of the best Ive eaten in my life, this restaurant is a great discovery!
The meat in both dishes were super flavourful and tender. You can tell they put a lot of time to prepare the proteins on the dish. I just felt like they put way too much rice and beans on each plate to compensate for the price. Overall very delicious plates. Would order again.
I got fish ceviche from here and that was great! Loved the food!
Best griot dish in town! Everything was perfectly measured; rice, meat, pikliz, plantain.
Simply extraordinary!!! By the way Im going there today for an order!!!!
Had the Jambalaya and Ox Tail (my favorite protein).
The quality of meat is pretty good and portion was large. But the seasoning is close enough to those homemade Japanese curry .The wait time was really long for food court though, about 20 mins.
Amazing! Had the Poulet Jerk, will definitely visit Montreal again just to eat here!
Ribs were delicious, super tender, and not too sweet. Ceviche was tasty too. Cant wait to return!
I had the jerk chicken sandwich with plantain fries. I was worried that the portion would be small and the meal wouldnt be filling. I was wrong - there was more than enough food to satisfy my hunger. The sandwich was full of chicken, the bun was perfect for the size and the plantain fries surprised me. I had not had Haitian food before, but I will be going back to try this again. It was phenomenal.
I just ate my best griot (Haitian) ever!! Incredible rice and tender, juicy pieces of pork!! Congratulations!!
I must have come in on a bad day because this is unacceptable really. I ordered the jambalaya that is supposed to include sausage and mushrooms and didn t get either. The amount of meat on the seafood, especially the mussels, does not justify the price either; there s barely any meat! Embarrassing, there s no other way to describe it and I hope they do better next time. Edit: forgot to mention that the rice was too salty.
I ordered the jambalaya plate with extra fried plantains, the crab in the jambalaya was seriously overcooked, the seafood portion was tiny, its basically $22 for a plate of rice. The plantains were so dry that we couldnt finish them, and they were $7. In addition, the customer service was unpleasant, the person at the desk looked stupid and barely looked up to speak to us.
The jerk chicken and Haitian were delicious and the atmosphere was nice!
Excellent food, meat and rice combinations great, it has such tasty flavors, great customer service as well. Ill give it 5 stars.
4 orders made: Jerk chicken: not all chicken was cooked! Pink color inside! Extremely disappointed! Rice: Good Accra: Good Grillots: OK tender large pieces could be cut smaller for a more refined presentation Djondjon is in no way representative of the Haitian dish, it looks like a soup with seafood! Frankly inedible! Unpleasant smell.
Ok so this is some prime food right there. The quality of the food is supreme. If you want Griot that tastes like the one you can get in Haiti, this is the right place. The only downside is that the portion is on the smaller side. And it is in a mall which removes a bit of the fancy feeling you get from an actual restaurant. I give it 5 stars and strongly recommend still.
Excellent! Jerk chicken with very tasty fatty rice! I recommend it!
Their Pineapple and Rum Ribs is a must! The meat is soooo tender! And it tastes delicious.
I tried the roasted squash. Very nice presentation, superb medley of tastes, good portion for the price. (Personally, I would have preferred a little more sauce, but I wouldnt hesitate to go back )
BEST GRIO IN TOWN!! The pikliz is just too perfect.
The flavors are present and the presentation was beautiful and refined. I would have liked the rice and pork to be hot, it was very lukewarm. First time Ive eaten griot so pink inside. I was going to ask the employee to reheat my dish, but she was nonchalant so I let it happen.
Delicious food. I had the poulet jerk and definitely recommend it.
Food quality: delicious, tastyyy Food I ordered, and my rating: tenesee whiskey ribs (La Tournée Gourmande event) Food presentation: nice, generous for the $8 worth of one piece of ribs and some potato fries Service: it was okay. Understaffed, the cook did touch different foods with her hands: held the ribs, then held the fries and the chicken as well Seated? Its a fancy food court and theres lots of space, you can even sit at the bar area if you want to (no kids allowed) Venue decor: each fast food at the fancy food court is aesthetically the same to make a neat environment Please Like if this review helped you!
Got the jerk chicken - incredible! Awesome flavours. Really nice, tender and juicy. Good work!
The jerk chicken is on point! Definitely recommended!
Had the L Haitien | The Haitian and a bottle of the Ting Sparkling Grapefruit. The protein is good. It s a gem in Montreal, who knew there s this kind of food here :) in the Timeout Market Food Court
Finally honed in on the Goat Curry after contemplating for a while since all their dishes looked good. It took a while to get my order When I finally got my food, I was not disappointed. Delicious, freshly made home-cooked goodness. The extra wait was worth it - it takes time to make authentic homemade food. Definitely give it a try if you re at Time Out!
The quantity and quality of the ceviche is truly scandalous!!!! Unworthy of timeout for having made several around the world. The plate, in addition to being insufficient in quantity, is not even well prepared!!!! On the other hand, profitability with lots of salad. The cook told me that the quantities also seem low but thats what we taught him in training, he told me....
Me and my sister had the fish ceviche, we loved it!! They replaced the sweet potatoes with plantains and it was EXCELLENT!!!
I do not recommend! Order without human warmth High prices $50 for 2 without drinks Bad experience ******* They gave us a beep after 25 minutes I will finally ask for the dish.... yes it is ready! I go to our table and surprise, everything is cold.... I return the dishes and they tell me the beeper didnt work. Our dishes had waited 15 minutes. maybe they could have told us before.... They remade the dishes, but just reheated...well done for the freshness. In the end, it wasnt so good... to avoid
I read great reviews on Google and Yelp, so I decided to try this restaurants jerk chicken. While the chicken was tender with crispy skin, the sauerkraut was simply overpowering. They must have added too much vinegar, making the vegetables far too acidic. It ruined an otherwise 4-star dish.
This was my first time trying Carribean food and I really enjoyed it. I ordered the jerk chicken by reccomendation from the cashier. The chicken was extremely flavourful (although slightly salty) and cooked perfectly - it was tender and fell off the bone with just poking with a fork. The rice was nicely seasoned and the plantains added a nice crunch to the meal. My order was prepared so quickly that I didnt even have time to look at other vendors at the food market. Slightly expensive (~$20) in my opinion but decent portion size for dinner.
Too bad, I brought all my colleagues here... But alas, it seems that the quality and quantity are no longer there... Besides, its not possible to have acras or plantain on the side this evening... and the acras included in my griot dish sealed everything for me, I dont know if Ill come back. Paul, are you still supervising the restaurant?!
Excellent meal.
Went there before the pandemic, saw the owner watching over everyone, went up to him and had to congratulate him, food was spectacular think I had the rice, ribs, accra. Went back few weeks ago after everything had opened up fully, had issues with my passport took me 30 mins to sort it, finally went up to eat. Decided not to eat there for lack of effort on following protocols which I will not mention as all restos have suffered from this pandemic, dont want to be creating headaches for owner, only advice is keep an eye on your business, make sure your employees use their brains and follow pandemic protocols. Went to check mex joint, same deal protocols not being followed. Hit the Asian joints as they had it down packed (Thai 7/10 and Japanese 8/10), Time Out had the setting near perfect, but If I was them I would walk around and check if my tenants are following the protocols. Was super disappointed really wanted that rice and beans. Will definitely go back to try again but will observe b4 I order, hope they get their act together. I have to say this places food is like crack, I have to eat here at least once a week.
Excellent and tasty food!!
Beef was super tender and fries were plantain bananas. Awesome Haitian food experience. Will come back!
I really liked most of their dishes. The plantain fries that come with some dishes are especially good. The griot is sometimes a little dry, but very good all the same. Nothing to criticize about the service.
I ordered a goat curry and honestly it was delicious. The cooking of the goat cheese was just great! Such tenderness If you like dishes with sauce, this is a good choice! A delicious dish! With a slight spicy touch! The portion is satisfying, just enough to have a nice feeling of satiety!! :) Super cool discovery!! Thanks to Chef Paul Toussaint s team!!
I ordered the haïtien plate. When i payed and got my order I noticed it was missing the acras and when I told her that there was no acras she told me that she forgot to let me know that they had no more acras. I forgot to tell you we have no more acras so maybe NEXT TIME! Without ANY compensation. So not only did u forget to let me know but you wont give me smtg for it .Also there was not enough meat at ALL. The food was tasty (thus the 2 stars) but service could ve been better.
Friendly staff, but the jerk chicken breast was white through and through. Last time I had this dish, at another spot, the chicken was tender and full of taste. Dissapointing, especially for 22$.
Very disappointing meal. For $22: 2 shrimp, 1 small piece of sausage, and half a crab without ANY meat. Decorative crab you could say... The rice was good.
Disappointed after trying their griot dish. The plantain was very dry as if it had been made earlier and was sitting there. The coleslaw had way way too much vinegar. The pork was pretty much the only good part. There are better Caribbean restaurants to try in the city for much better value
Really good food. Surprised that the rating is really less.
Jerk chicken more like nice chicken. I didn t taste any of the flavour from the jerk and yet it costed me 20$.
Frankly lack of rice... the quantity was really not enough, no sauce, no macaroni. Really disappointed!!! Paul does better please
Grill chicken is too dry, the meat is not juicy and the Sauerkraut is too sour !! Cashier taking order too slow, it makes a super long queue . Food court atmosphere is good, busy around but very clean. Food : 3/5
Service is very bad had to wait like 20min for my plate plus some people came to order AFTER me the same plate and they got serve way before me plus one of the main item accompanying the main dishnis always missing but they charge you the same i did not appreciate the service at all
Ox Tail was soft and flavourful. A bit pricey, but was pleasantly surprised.
We went for the Griot Sandwich with plantain fries. A beautiful combination of flavours and textures, crunchy juicy pork with a slight heat.
The plantain fries are AMAZING!!!! I can eat a bucketful!!! However, the jerk chicken sandwich had no spice to it. I wish it had more punch to it. But go and get some of those plantain fries, you wont regret it!
Overall is good but too dry. As for the waiter, he is absolutely not friendly.
The Timeout Market is a nice food court space in the mall. The atmosphere is nice. The food tasted average.
Got the griot - the meat had a great texture to it. Thats about all the positives that I can say about the plate. The rice was absurdly salty - it just wasnt enjoyable. Good haitian food in Montreal exists, but this certainly isnt it.
Griot was ok but so expensive for the amount you get. Most griot spots will give you a mountain of food for $15 and for $19 I d expect a lot more..
I tried the Goat curry and my friend tried the ceviche! I found the curry very tasty. Try it next time you come to Time Out market
$23 for a lamb kebab which ultimately only contains rice and 5 pieces of mini merguez is quite exaggerated.
The portion is beyond ridiculous! Not even half of what an average portion is for the same amount of money. Not cool
This place is amazing! I had the oxtail, and my friend had the jerk chicken, and we were both in genuine awe at how amazing the food was! The meat from my ox tail was sooo soft it literally peels off the bone and melts in your mouth! And the rice alone i could simply eat all day! Plus, for food this good, its so affordable! Amazing.
Loved the ceviche and the plantain fries. Signature dish was delicious. We discovered tasty haitian cuisine. Great recommandations by the staff. I will return.
I ve eaten here a couple of times and had great experiences. Their other dishes send me back home to the Caribbean, that is the only reason I m giving it stars now. I ordered the ceviche today and I couldn t be more disappointed. It is the single worse ceviche I ve had in my life. Nowhere have I seen it served like this. It was bland, unappetizing and struggled to finish it. The menu would be better without it. It shouldn t be even Called ceviche.
I ordered the chicken sandwich, I was served a sandwich with very dry buns that were falling apart and the side of the sandwich was burnt :c
