300 Rue Saint-Antoine O, Montréal, QC H2Y 0A3, Canada
GaZette… where alchemy matters. Contemporary, yet steeped in history. Downtown, yet on the steps of historic Montreal. Modern and urban, yet soothing and welcoming. gaZette restaurant… located in the former Gazette building.
We went during the Montreal à la table festival, where we had a 4 course menu for 50 CAD. Everything was super good, and the wine too! We specially liked their onion and foie soup. The only bad points were the timing of serving, very long for a closed menu and a bit the atmosphere, I would have turned off the tv and perhaps give families with kids a closer table.
Ate here well staying at the hotel. The bar service was great, very attentive bartender. Went for dinner on a Saturday night and it was very very busy, managed to get a table and the food was very good. The burger was delicious.
Great restaurant, we keep coming back. The food is consistant and absolutely delicious. The service is excellent and our waiter Patrick is so nice and he remembered us.
For a hotel restaurant this place is very good. The staff are super friendly and even when they are crazy busy they try hard. Had breakfast here and it was very good. The beer is cold and the cocktails well crafted.
At $39 per person, the continental buffet offers only the standard fare: eggs, bacon, sausage, oatmeal, and sliced bread, without any leafy vegetable options. Moreover, the taste was mediocre and just like a continental breakfast you’d find in a motel. We had the breakfast buffet but still had to pay extra for cappuccino and latte if we wanted to order … (I’ve been eating at Sheraton in the Philippines for the past few months and their buffet breakfast was awesome with tones of choices including a selection of coffee.) I would strongly recommend exploring other brunch options in Montreal, where you’re likely to find a much better experience in terms of food variety, taste, and overall enjoyment.
Beautiful restaurant a couple of friends and I tried for the first time for MTL à Table this year. The environment was nice, the tables are not too close to each other so you get pretty decent privacy. The areas are separated by walls so it is not too noisy either. The food was delicious and everything was very flavourful. Our waiter was hilarious, sassy, and classy. He joined in on our conversations (appropriately) and even told us about the history of the restaurant and its staff. Most staff has been there for 10+ years so not high turnover rate. That speaks volumes. We will definitely be returning! Pro-tip : You can park in the hotel for free for up to 2h. PS: Anthony takes THE best pictures I have ever seen. ;)
It was everything you'd expect from the westin! The food was prepared to perfection, and the server was a delight. They are definitely going to see us back very soon. What's better than sleeping at the westin and dining at the gazette! You won't regret it I'm heading back soon! Stay tuned for a tasty review near you 😋
2024… This place has really gone downhill. The buffet breakfast was all cold, no salmon, fruit was previously frozen and no taste. Gave 1 star because coffee was good but even then they only had milk on the table instead of cream. Isn’t this illegal in Quebec? 😆 ……. 2022 - from menu The breakfast here really blew me away! It was so good we went again on our second day. Excellent service and very good portions. There was a ton of salmon on my bagel 🥯 thank you👏🏻
A hotel restaurant like no other.
Delicious, in a perfect setting and top service!! I make the mtl menu at the table every year and its always a treat :)
Located in the Westin of the old port of Montreal on Saint Antoine Street. Nice restaurant, courteous service, very good food. Menu for Montréal à table 2024 is affordable. The onion cream is a little sweet though. It was nice.
They added the 15% of tip automatically for an order of dessert to go, literally ice cream and a pre made cake. When I was asking the waitress why they do that she was talking to me like I was dumb and couldnt understand that this is what they do when its an order to go. When I told her well you dont give me the choice she said that I had the choice to leave more tip, if I wanted.
Loved the atmosphere and our server was very attentive. However, the avocado toast was a small portion, and for the price, I expected it to be served on made in house bread, rather than a basic piece of rye toast. There was a lack of finishing on the toast, no cracked pepper, olive oil drizzle etc, just a sliced up avocado on a piece of toast.
Dirty Martini 10/10 Dirty Martini with a local Vodka named PURE Food
High quality
It was very loud, service was slow and sparse, the food was ok but overpriced for what you get. Avoid the cake. It is not decadent. It is stale and ice cold. I could barely cut into it. The top layer is very hard very cold ganache. Sadly its barely edible So disappointed!
Breakfast was terrible. The muffin was rock hard, waitress got the order wrong, extremely slow to be seated, and despite only a few other customers it was hard to get her attention. Avoid!
Gazette restaurant brunch: The brunch at the Gazette restaurant was well worth it. Our waitress was wonderful, attentive and was lovely to talk to. She got our orders correct and was quick to get our drinks and food. The restaurant staff was professional and courteous and Id recommend getting brunch there. Very kid friendly.
A very solid family dinner. Food options were varied and our choices certainly good. Service was excellent, attentive but not overbearing. A quiet atmosphere, which was nice for conversation. We were not bothered at all by the bar patrons.
The worst hamburger Ive tried in my life, the bread and meat were all burnt, I dont recommend going there, there are really other options in Montreal that are much better and cheaper.
I decided to eat here for lunch. The Yellow Fin Tuna Poke Bowl was really good. It s a good healthy option. I had the Club Sandwich and it was pretty good but my only complaint is that the bread was crunchy and not the best. It s also worth noting that both of those dishes are not hot dishes. My favorite was the Calamari. The Calamari was amazing. Not much I can say about it.
It s all good.
5 star restaurant without the snobbery...you feel very good there...everything is quality.
Very tasty food. Would highly recommend!
The restaurant is very nice, the music always very pleasant. The staff is frankly top notch, very kind, always attentive. Thank you to Dianne and the whole team for your good humor and your good advice!!!
Great choice on menu. Service was spot on. Friendly all around. Full selection of drinks at the bar.
Taste, research, perfect cooking and attentive service. Worth a visit. Nice wine list. Vegetarian options: Spelled pilaf hearty and rich in taste.
Wonderful time dinning at this establishment. The music playing was very festive and the staff were very friendly. They provided recommendations that were very good. A great place for groups or couples looking to enjoy the evenings entertainment.
Excellent service. Delicious food. Awesome experience. Barbara was great. Very well recommended.
The restaurant has a nice decor and ambiance. On a Friday night the restaurant was not busy and considering what we experienced that is no surprise. Unlike some hotel restaurants whose amazing offerings make it a destination for locals, I cant imagine this restaurant so close to so many alternatives would ever be. We started with French Onion Soup. It was served appropriately. The cheese was good, the onion soup a little too sweet (but I accept that some would like that), and the bread was crunchy but tasted old / stale (which I cant imagine people would like). I had a rotisserie chicken which was plated attractively. The chicken came out slightly on the dry side. The rosemary was not the strong ingredient in the Rosemary Cabernet Sauvignon sauce making this a sort of rich and sweet sauce. The pairing of ingredients was unique. Somehow the nuts did enhance the combination but overall I wouldnt recommend this dish. We also had a burger and a Caesar salad. The burger was average but the Caesar salad surprisingly was done with a proper dressing that had a light anchovy flavor. The croutons were not stale (unlike the bread in the French Onion soup) and had an appropriate garlic flavouring. Too light on the cheese in the salad though. The burger was good. Chocolate lava cake was well plated and had a nice chocolatey flavour with fresh raspberries, whipped cream, and other milk and white chocolate crumbles around it. It was a bit on the small side compared to other chocolate lava cakes or chocolate souffles you might get. It was semi-warm but not the oozing warm to hot chocolate you might expect. Service was below average which shouldnt have been the case considering the restaurant wasnt that busy. The only saving grace was that the bar tender would sometimes see that we were bored and not being served and step out from the bar to backfill for the waiter. We timed how long it took to get the bill... it was over ten minutes. In summary no items got 5/5. If I had only a burger, Caesar salad, and chocolate lava cake at the bar I might have given this restaurant a 4/5. But French Onion soup shouldnt go wrong, chicken should be moist, lava should be hot, and service would be prompt.
Looks million $ and indeed we loved each and every second in this wonderful restuarant.
Great place, great vibe, great service. Options for vegetarian are less but loads of options for non vegetarian foods. Highly recommend. Vegetarian options: There are very limited vegetarian options.
Very nice place but not for all budgets. Very good service
We were happily surprised. The food was great, impeccable service, and it turned to be a great place eat as a couple night out.
Great service. I appreciate we could get dinner at 930p. Not many places nearby still serving food. We had the Ceasar salad, calamari, and poke bowl and all were great. No complaints.
Best calamari Ive ever had, it was so tender and flavorful! We also had the soup of the day which was the zucchini soup which was very tasty and it was a big portion. The cavatelli pasta can be a bit more tender.
Went for lunch with some colleagues. Smoked meat poutine was delicious.
Excellent poke salad bowl. Great service. Nice atmosphere.
Very limited selection for a buffet that costs $30. Food was good but I would NOT eat here again, terrible value
Great good excellent service
Not a good place. The restaurant is kind of boring. Customer service is not great. Waitress had an attitude and we found it kind of intimidating. Food is very bad. Wouldnt go back again.
good food good service
Excellent food. Had the Poke Bowl and it was exquisite. Staff very helpful and friendly.
Typical business restaurant in downtown, connected to the Westin hotel. However, the staff and food sets it apart. Excellent service by our smiling and efficient waiter. And the food - a simple Caesar salad - was fresh, tasty and served almost immediately.
We had breakfast and dinner at the GaZette. The morning buffet has a variety of choices especially fresh fruits. We enjoyed the scrambled eggs and breakfast sausages. Our dinners server Patrick is more than excellent; he offered excellent recommendation and of coz went above and beyond to make sure we had wonderful experience here. The calamari and Cavatelli were best of the best. Truly enjoyable .
Very happy with the quality of the food and with the service. Kasandra was knowledgeable and professional. She was attentive without interrupting our conversations. She made our experience even more enjoyable. Salmon is delicious as is the roasted butternut squash. Highly recommend. Wheelchair accessibility: Tables are wheelchair accessible and accessible washrooms.
Great restaurant We went there for the Montréal à table event and the menu was really diverse and very good! Special mention for the great waitress whose first name I forgot who kindly filled my glass of wine a little more!
Their Montreal a table menu was excellent!!
Cold food. Nothing home made. Bad all around
Never disappoints. Always good food and service.
We enjoyed a lovely dejeuner mid Comic Con. Only lovely things to say. The staff was very friendly and the food was delicious. We enjoyed a Canadian classic, poutine, grilled chicken club, hamburger, and calamari - all wonderful!
One of the best Poke bowls I ve ever had! Fresh mangoes, delicious tuna and an array of flavours!
Excellent service, the staff was very friendly and helpful. We all enjoyed the meal and looking forward to coming again soon!
Excellent Service, Amazing food. The Smoked Ribs came with Sweet Potato Fries and Onion rings were amazing, Greek Chicken dish, one of the best ever!!! Must try!
I had breakfast there. It was delicious, and the service was excellent.
Love this restaurant within the Westin Hotel. Excellent friendly staff gives the service as you want. The food for dinner was varied and good wines are served. But what really makes me love them is the breakfast. Great a la carte options, but you cannot really ignore the excellent buffet. Chapeau!
Had a quiet little lunch here on a Sunday where everything else had a line. My salmon and the desserts were delicious. The coffee was pretty good, but my partners burger was apparently underwhelming. Service was really courteous, we appreciated it. :)
The breakfast buffet was excellent as was the service. The hostess was very nice and our server, Barbara, went above and beyond. She was so nice and helpful. There is a huge variety of food, and its delicious! The buffet was well worth the money. We will definitely be back.
Went to gaZette and tried poutine for the first time, it was delicious! Definitely a place to go when visiting Montreal. Service was excellent and nice ambiance. Would definitely go back!
Good food, but way overpriced for what you get. The highlight was the Chocolate Lava Cake and even that was a disappointment, it could have been eaten in one bite.
Awesome service, great taste, and wonderful presentation.
The waiter was witty and quick to get us our drinks and orders in! The ambience was laid back and cozy - we will definitely visit again!
In montreal for the autoshow. I took my clients there for dinner we were a table of 8. I did make a reservation prior. The food was excellent the service not so much especially the first hour. I made our server aware when I paid the bill that the service was poor for an upscale restaurant but still tipped her 20%. I just wanted her to know.
Hotel restaurant, very good food and incredible service, very professional. The lunch menu is reasonably priced and delicious.
Great service, large portions, and great price for a Downtown hotel restaurant. They had a good selection of beer on tap and lots of different menu items to choose from.
Very good and good service
Very good meal, plentiful, tasty and of good quality.
Best risotto... warm place, nice service, just enjoy your meal...
The buffet is good except for the brioches which were not tender... despite the fact that I arrived at 7:45 a.m.
Nice place
Food, service and ambiance were excellent!
Mediocre margarita, but good vatof liquor
Very poor service. The waitress took our order, we got our food 40 minutes later. No waiters came back to our table, ever. Took almost an hour to get someone to bring us the bill. Food is average for the price.
Exceptional service!
Nice buffet with fresh smoked salmon and great service. As an added bonus, its not crowded (at least it wasnt on this Monday morning at 7.30am)
The dishes were delicious, the service very good, the place is quiet, chic and modern.
I was surprised that the drinks were not more expensive for the bar of a rather high end hotel (less than 10$ for pints). The atmosphere is nice and the service is top notch.
It was one of the best meals I ever had, this is my first time in Montreal and I was pleasantly surprised by the good service and amazing food. Thank you for making my first day in Montreal a good day :)
Comparing to other hotels, buffet had a good price $CA 26. A la cart was also good. Delicious breakfast. The beet juice was hard to drink. It tasted strong and sour thanks for the ginger juice. Service was great. Overall, very good!
Rather expensive, food not that great, limited menu.
Only stopped by for desert but it was nice. Was greeted as we walked in, order taken and out with us quickly. It was late at the time, around 10:45pm on Easter Sunday
We went here thinking the servings would be small given the look of the place and the menu prices. The serving size was huge. I ordered the albacore tuna with ramen and Tom yum broth and it came with 3 thick slices of tuna steak. There was probably at least 6 oz of tuna there on top of the rest. The broth was incredible. The waiter was lovely. I would go back here again.
Great menu, had the tuna tataki which was velvelty smooth, two great sauces one sweet one with a bit of bite. Next was on to the grilled octopus, super tender. A great selection of burbons and gins. Service was top notch, very friendly and professional.
Excellent restaurant for business, because the dishes are succulent, the menu qualities are very diverse and the employees are very friendly and professional. The prices are still correct given the choices on the menu but it is not affordable like $$$$ on $$$$$
Amazing service. Staff is very polite and helpful. Portions are good
The breakfast here is sub par for a fancy hotel. They have no salad, the fruit is not fresh, the coffee is weak, and in general there isn t much that s particularly interesting. The servers are kind but messed up the bill twice (once in our favor, and once not).
Hip and modern restaurant with bar. Fantastic food and excellent service. Recommended to anyone!
Amazing service! Food could be better especially the buffet for breakfast
Edited 2018 summer: it went from 5 stars to 2. This place used to be good, but the last 2 times we went, the food was bland and gross. The cut of meat was obviously cooked from a frozen cut rather than fresh. The other platters were forgettable. We were reimbursed for it since we didnt eat it. Fall 2017 review: Underrated! This place has amazing flavors without the pretentious feeling. I love how the menu also changes for seasonal flavors. I would recommend this place over Toqué any day for food lovers who actually want real portions.
Surprisingly good food and nice atmosphere
Ok, nothing special.
Food : ordinary. Service : very nice but slow . Place and atmosphere: quite ,cosy and clean .
menu needs some updating.
Very good, very quiet place, excellent food.
Really good breakfast. About as expensive as youd expect. Staff was very kind and accommodating. Food was delicious.
Had trouble getting menus after watching staff talk about their nails for 10 minutes.
Went there as hotel guest for breakfast and there was a long queue before us. The woman in charge was slow. An empty table was there for about 30 minutes and she says its for reservations. After waiting for about 30 minutes, she comes and says the only table available for you now is the high chairs near the entrance which were free since we came ! Awful
Sublime yellowfin tuna!!
The service was a little slow, we were served by a trainee and she was relatively new to the job so its understandable, she was nice and attentive though ! Food was alright, nothing exceptional and was a little on the expensive side given the portion. I had the tuna which was priced at $22 for lunch, came with a soup or salad too.
Poor Food Selection - If you eat healthy, you will have a challenge eating at this restaurant. when they save half a chicken plate it means getting served wings and a thigh. Better of all is serving Under-Cooked food - Pour Customer service - They even dont take accountability of the poorly served food and will charge for it.
Excellent food. Best hotel breakfast buffet of any chain hotel. Try the Ahi Tuna salad (entre), superb.
Great food! Were exhausted from the busy Formula One weekend and decided to eat in the hotel. Were surprised at how delicious the dishes are here. The mushroom appetizer was flavorful. It had a well balanced earthiness. My main dish with scallops, mussels, and crab was good. Nothing too exciting but this dish was flavored well. Service is slow so be patient.
I was staying at the Westin in Montreal, which is a beautiful property located very close to the historic Old Montreal part of town. I decided to give this restaurant a try, mostly out of convenience. Ive found in my travels, that most of the time, restaurants that are attached to hotels are not very good. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food and service at The Gazette. When my partner and I arrived at the restaurant, the hostess asked if we had a reservation. Apparently it was a busy night, as the Montreal Grand Prix had just finished earlier that afternoon. But she found space for us at one of the communal tables near the bar, which was just fine. The waiter arrived quickly to greet us, take our drink orders, and bring a basket of delicious fresh-baked rolls. We started with the Gnocchi Carbonara, with lobster, green pea, parmesan, an. truffle fried quail egg. It was creamy and delicious, with so many flavors happening. For our main courses we had the Sauteed Scallop, which comes with giant shrimp, mussels, clams, crab claw gnocchi corn, speck ham, and tomato seafood broth. The seafood was fresh and cooked perfectly. We also tried the Grilled Piri Piri Chicken, which comes with kale, chorizo sausage, multi color potato, grilled bell pepper, marinated red onion, and queso fresco cheese. Again, amazing flavors that all worked so well together. My only complaint here was that the chicken was over cooked, so much of it was really dry. I used the bell peppers and red onions to add some moisture to the dry chicken. It helped a little, but this dish could have been a home run if the chicken was cooked properly. Overall the dinner was much better than I expected, and at the end of the meal I could just take the elevator upstairs to be back in my hotel room. I probably would not make an effort to return to this restaurant, unless I was staying at the Westin again, since there are so many other new places to try in the city.
Refined and elegant bar and restaurant at the hotel Westin. I tried some snacks and drinks at the bar and they were better than most of the hotel bars I have tried. The service was excellent. The breakfast buffet is in the simple side with lots of cut fresh fruits, salmon, deli meats, cheeses and egg dishes.
Visited Gazette for a brunch with my family 08/13/2016. My wife ordered roast salmon plate and was very happy with how it was done. My order went not so well. Ive ordered roast chicken sandwich expecting what was in menu description. For the start Ive got a burger with a beef. They replaced it with sandwich and apologies. Fine with me, mistakes happen. Let me describe what I got: - chicken - right out of the freezer, may be it was roasted week or so ago but it was frozen, hard to tell how old it was. - bread was grilled on a dirty grill, got burned pieces of previously prepared food on it. - lettuce - fresh. - tomato - absolutely tasteless, with some traces of red color. Three out of four ingredients are not done right. Amazing. Well, if one will go and buy a $3.95 pre-packed sandwich at a grocery stores deli (picking it from the freezers) they will get an idea about what I got at Gazette sans burned food on a bread, off course. After my complain they took my plate away for a kitchen review and analyzed that for a while like there is some doubt about the quality. Finally I got an apologies and been asked for complementary desert since I refused to order another main. Ordered coffee. And... they charged for it. At that moment I was so irritated that I said nothing. Paid the bill and we left. Small note on a side: they do not use tablecloth. For some reason they put rectangular leatherette mats which they just wipe with cloth in between different parties. Do not put your silverware down there - you might get sick from bacteria people bring there from the toilet. How this passed sanitary inspections is beyond my understanding.
We stayed at the Westin hotel and used the bar at the Gazette a couple of times. Its got a nice atmosphere, the staff is polite, and the cocktails are good. Slightly on the expensive side, but not too much.
Had a salmon dish, the food is great, theyre clean and have a very good service!
Best breakfast buffet in town. Only 23$ !
