Jellyfish Montreal - restaurant in Montreal

One of the most humiliating experiences I had in my life was in this restaurant! The waitress was horrified that I left her a tip that was not very generous according to her! I explained to her that I am a student and that this is all I could afford to give ($5) she insisted so much that I felt obliged to add a ticket to her! Knowing that we were a group of 12 people and that she had less than 7 tips on the other bills. I wont set foot there again, I wasnt comfortable at all

EDIT: I am obliged to correct my opinion following this evenings experience. The place is still sumptuous and the welcome and service are absolutely impeccable. Nonetheless, we were dismayed by each of our plates. The presentation is pleasant and elaborate but the quantities have become truly ridiculous given the price displayed on the menu. Nothing can justify that a plate consisting of half a seasoned avocado cut into 5 should be charged $25 + tax. Ditto for the tuna crudo, the portion of tuna of which was half as much as a slice of smoked salmon shredded and scattered across the plate for the modest sum of $29 +tx (to name only these dishes). The report is completely unacceptable, not to say abusive or insulting, and this experience is terribly dissuasive. I will not return and can no longer decently recommend this place, with regret. ORIGINAL: Excellent experience in every way: the offer on the menu is appetizing and unusual and everything was delicious. We were seated at the bar counter and our server/bartender was exceptionally attentive and professional.

Excellent service, you start to finish. Very nice selection of wines and the passionate sommelier Jonathan gives great advice which makes you want to try everything ;). Anthonys drinks are so good. My boyfriend s best Amaretto sour ever! Well go back with friends for sure.

We were there for a business dinner and it was far too loud to have any conversation. They need to do something for sound control. The service was slow and the food was okay. The beef was excellent.

I had the perfect dinner last night with my wife and friends. The waitress made everything so easy and clear while we never once had an empty glass of water for 5 seconds. We had a spotless table the whole night (with a last name like mine you can understand how thats an accomplishment in itself) as they were constantly on top of EVERYTHING. I have never had a better dinner experience anywhere, I cannot wait for the next time I get that pleasure again.

Was very underwhelming for the cost the lobster pani puri tasted strongly like fake crab and plain mayonnaise, every dish we had lacked seasoning or salt, service was slow and all over the place, we had a reservation for 8:45 and weren t seated until 9pm after hovering around the coat check. Seafood tasted frozen not fresh. Won t be returning and don t recommend if you want good seafood.

We arrived on time for our reservation but had to wait over 15 minutes for our table, despite being told it would be a 10-minute wait at most. During this time, no one offered us a menu, which would have made the wait more comfortable. The food was good, though not exceptional, and service was lacking. My primary concern, however, was an incident with the wine service. Our waitress used a cloth she had just picked up from the floor to wrap around a nearly $100 bottle of wine while pouring. When I expressed my discomfort, she assured me it was fine as the cloth hadn t touched the bottles tip. This lack of attention to basic salubrity is unacceptable in a high-end establishment. Overall, the experience didn t meet the expectations of service or hygiene for a restaurant of this caliber and price point.

I ordered the filet mignon and tomato salad and shared some french fries and broccolini with my spouse. The food tasted great and was beautifully presented. The venue was tasteful with high ceilings and elegant decorations. However, the star of the night was our server Chloe. She anticipated everything that would make our evening special and served us as if we were the only ones in the restaurant although it was packed with diners. I give the food a 5 and Chloe a 5+.

Love this place however the night was spoiled by a mouse running around our legs. When brought up to the waitress she looked at us stunned & almost in disbelief until she saw it for herself. Did not do anything to justify the situation mid meal. I love this place however was a pretty bad experience.

I had a wonderful dining experience at Jellyfish last night! Our waitress was exceptional she really paid attention to our needs. When my husband requested a nut-free meal, she made sure to order my dish without pistachios before it was cooked, ensuring everything was safe for me. Her thoughtful service truly made our evening special. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for great food and attentive staff! Unfortunately I don t know her name .

The perfect place!

I totally loved the overall experience here! I would recommend booking way ahead of your dinner. The tables indoor get booked really fast. We got a table outdoor dinning area. It was beautiful with lights and flowers. Could get a bit cold so make sure you have a sweater. The food was absolutely amazing. Every bite was a delight. I loved all the rich flavours of the food. The chicken and Rotelle were my best dishes. Can t describe the feeling of that chicken in the butter sauce that accompanied it. There was also the fried fish(I can t remember the name) it was fresh and well prepared. It also had an amazing sauce to go with it. I ordered for medium rare steak and it was yummy! The Rotelle came with oxtail and mushrooms in it and portion is large so can be shared by 2. We were stuffed and had a wonderful time here. It was my birthday and I got a complementary piece of cake on the house. The cocktails were great as well. The service here was exceptional. They made sure we got our drinks topped regularly. They were patient, explained the dishes, made great recommendations and overall were courteous. Overall, this was an awesome experience. I literally had zero complains. Lol except the fact that I was over fed. Every meal was delicious. I will definitely love to come back for my dates. Kid-friendliness: They were very pleasant with my kids. They were happy to see a family dinning together and service was too notch.

Dinner number five in old Montreal. Two of the last 4 were terrible. We had a great dinner here. Many dishes are advertised as Asian inspired but the influence varies from dish to dish. The fried sea bream was very good. Fried brussel sprouts were good though not the best I ve ever had. Burrata was fine. Staff were attentive and friendly. Loud music indoors.

First time at this restaurant. Excellent service and very good, creative and delicious dishes. Did not give 5 stars because disappointed by the lack of charcoal grilled dishes (their motto). Too many fried dishes - Milanese veal chop, octopus, sea bream etc which would have made good choices if grilled.

I can t say enough about our first time visiting this spectacular dining experience. It was recommended by a friend as a place to dine while visiting Montreal. I am so glad she did! The flavours were bursting and the service was spot on. The rotelle is to die for! That bone marrow gives it such richness and the ragoux was so tender. The New York CAB melted in your mouth. Make this a place to dine if you live or visiting Montreal!!!

Its worth spending an evening there

This restaurant with its neat interior seems to subscribe to an outdated philosophy. The miniskirts imposed on waitresses are worthy of another era, in 2024 we can question this management choice. It gives the impression that this restaurant is more focused on appearance than quality and that is reflected on the plate. We started with the nacho-style oysters, special... not bad but the pork is so tasty that you lose the oyster. It lacks finesse to reinvent Rockefeller, I invite you to work on this concept. We tasted an excellent mushroom dish as starters, the polenta and creamed corn was fantastic (it seems the chef had recently improved the dish to the great benefit of our taste buds). On the other hand, beef tataki is not one. The beef is medium well cooked and the flavors poorly combined. The gravlax is good, without making us want to eat another plate. I strongly advise against rotelles, the dough is not cooked. There is confusion in the definition of Al dente. If this is their interpretation, it should be said when ordering our pasta is crunchy. We returned the dough, because it was not edible, they remade it, unfortunately it was almost the same thing but the sauce had become hyper concentrated, so it gives the perception that they recooked the dish at instead of making another one, which will have concentrated the sauce to the point where it only tasted of salt. this way of doing things is unworthy of a restaurant of this price which aspires to gastronomy. Nobody was interested in the result, we told the waitress, we were still charged with this bad dish of uncooked pasta. Finally, the NY cut beef was very good. The bar service was very friendly, but a special star for the sommelier, Jonathan, a passionate person who has wonderful suggestions and is great to chat with. I know several restaurants in Montreal that would benefit from this gentlemans qualities. Very expensive for the overall quality of the dishes. Happy tasting!

fresh food & the people at the front desk are always accommodating.

It was really delicious, nothing to complain about the cooking: the dishes were all as tasty as each other! Inventiveness, seasonings, it was perfect. On the other hand, very expensive, the bill rises very quickly, we cannot afford to go back regularly. Although the service was pleasant, a little too comfortable with customers compared to the standard of the restaurant.

Went with my wife for celebrating our anniversary. Food was very good with beautiful fresh seafood. The tapas for appetizers were delightful and same for our main course. Excellent very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Highly recommended

It was an extraordinary experience! It was all there! We opted for the tapas formula, each dish was visually flawless, but above all so delicious, no detail was overlooked and what can we say about the explosions of flavors! Service now! Thanks to Michael who made this evening more than perfect! We lacked nothing and we felt your passion for your job! And thank you for the complimentary digestive, it ended this magnificent dinner! I loved this place. The setting is gorgeous. Even though in some ways it is a bit incoherent design wise, I liked all the disparate elements. The menu and its concept is wonderful. Plates are good for sharing and the concept of raw and cooked courses makes for a fun evening. Wines are interesting and well matched and the cocktails are a delight.

Had an excellent time at the restaurant over the F1 weekend. The service was attentive and friendly, the food was fantastic and atmosphere was perfect. We were a group of 40+ for a corporate event and the attention to each member of the party by the staff was spot on!

The atmosphere of the place is nice. You should come here if you are only looking for a scenic restaurant. The service was all right; the server needed to be more knowledgeable about the menu (when I asked for recommendations, she basically suggested the whole menu) and paid little attention to us. The food was really the tipping point. For the price, it was not worth it. The dessert was the worst. I ordered the smores per the servers recommendation, and it was insanely sweet and burnt to charcoal --- definitely a health hazard to eat. When I brought it up with the server, she said smores are supposed to be like this, suggesting that I do not know what smores are. Overall, coming in, I had high expectations and looked forward to the experience, but I was disappointed.

Easily became one of my favourite restaurants in the city. Atmosphere is wonderful and pleasantly flexible for a casual or intimate night out. Dishes well presented with great flavours and amazing drinks. Highly recommend.

Overrated! Let s start with the menu who was falling off, had hard time handling it, for a restaurant like this one, it s very cheap to not invest in a menu lol, if you are going to order 1 drink 1apetizer 1 meal and 1 desert prepare yourself for 130$ to pay, moreover they literally f.up the octopus, it tasted like fish and ships, the desert was too sweet and I LOVE sweet usually, the fish (dorado) is good but not worth the price, the drinks are 18$-20$ but not worth the price either. I don t mind paying even 200$ but def the price has to meet the service, which didn t in this case! If you want a nice fish restaurant go to Rayan, that s exceptional! The service was good though overall that s why I added one star

We booked a Friday night for 6:45pm, the restaurant was full when we arrived and stayed full the entire time we were there. We got a great table in a corner so we did have a bit of a quiet table, which I would say if a premium here. Our server James was amazing. The best way to describe it was subtle. While I have no complaints about having to fill my own water glass, in over two hours, I never had to and I drank two bottles. Genuinely kind service that means a lot. Drinks were made well, and served surprisingly quickly which was miss. A good sync between the bar and kitchens. Highly recommended, the restaurant was very nicely designed, we will return next trip to Montreal.

We had a reservation for 14 people on April 12th. A very nice welcome upon arrival. We have an aperitif before our 7 p.m. dinner to taste some signature cocktails and a good glass of wine. We chose the group menu to be able to taste several dishes from the menu. All the flavor combinations are really good. My 3 year old daughter even loved her experience and the employees were very kind to us. I recommend the restaurant

I had a wonderful time at jellyfish restaurant. The restaurant has a very unique design, with colorful lights and decorations that create a cozy and romantic atmosphere. Its a perfect place for a special occasion. I tried the New York cut steak, and it was cooked to perfection. The meat was tender and juicy, and the sauce was rich and flavorful. The service was on point, and the staff was attentive and courteous. They made sure we had everything we needed, and they even brought us a complimentary dessert. The price was reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a special night out. Excellent food, in a lovely setting. I recommend sitting at the bar, for a different vibe. James was the best host - simply ask for him to pair your food with wine or cocktails and he ll deliver every time!

Beautiful restaurant and great atmosphere, the windows and the view of the old port is truly unmatched! Actually really good for groups (4-6 people) because you can order a tasting menu and just try a bunch of stuff and it s delicious! I think it s a montreal must try!

To start, I ve been to this place multiple times, and each time was a different menu. I visited again this month and I unfortunately was disappointed. Although the service was terrific, the food just didn t hit the spot as it once did. I will give this place another try as I know they ve got the potential! Perfect date night spot to share some delicious tapas dishes. For us, 4 dishes were enough. Our server, Michael, was the best! He surprised us by choosing our dishes, taking our preferences into consideration. We had tiger shrimp, avocado carpaccio, pain-puri and the Rotelle was THE BEST (must try)! All of the staff were very friendly and professional. Ambience is on point. We will definitely be back.

Arguably one of Montreals best restaurants. James provided the best service weve ever experienced outside of a Michelin star restaurant. Food was ok, overpriced, we ordered a dozen of oyster, a few of them weren t fresh with fishy taste and smell. However, the waitress was ok but kept us waiting for long to order at the beginning. So we gave her 10% tips. Then she turned to be extremely rude and insulted us after checking her tips and not satisfied with it. She goes are you from Montreal ? We normally do 15% tips in Montreal. to start with, it s a sign of bad service. Second of all, she has a million better ways to deal with it. third of all, what does she mean by are you from Montreal? We ve been in Montreal forever, love people and city here, she s not a good representative of Montreal for sure. Such a shame Just ruined the night. There are tons of good European cuisine restaurants in Montreal, not to mention at the old port. Doesn t worth the risk to go there.

I ve been here once before and decided to give it another shot. Beautiful restaurant but food is very very very mediocre for the price. I love tuna tartar and oysters and they were both um kinda bad Then we ordered the pork belly and the fried Brussels sprouts and it was some of the worst I ve ever tasted. Maybe I ordered the wrong things??? Seems like these would be a staple for being great things on the menu. Anyway, sorry to say but I would not Recommend.

This restaurant is absolutely amazing and worth the price. The ambiance is perfect for a dinner with friends or even a date. The lights are dimmed to create an elegant vibe, the music isnt too loud so you can hear yourselves. The food is fantastic! I have rarely been so impressed by a restaurant in Montreal. I will definitely be going back. 10/10, would recommend to anyone looking for amazing food and an elegant and intimate ambiance!

Food is very good. Had a fish fish and three filet. Buratta as an appetizer. All of these were full of balanced flavours that had us finishing every bit of food. The line selection is extensive and the cocktails are good as well. The service is a top-notch because the staff which collectively around the restaurant at each table.

Food and service were great but its obviously on the expensive side, and I thought the waiter tried a bit too hard to constantly get us to order more when its already this expensive.

Our waiter James was fantastic! His knowledge of cocktails was perfect and attention to our needs flawless. The rest of the staff were also great. The food did not disappoint. The fish looked small and although it was filling , I would not say no to a gram or two more. The 12oz steak, is a solid meal. The beef tataki was sublime, would have had two (or 3) had I known. We came here for our first anniversary and we were blown away. the food was spectacular! Waitress who served us on April 22 was lovely. We loved the ambience and setting. This is certainly our new favourite restaurant.

This restaurant is well located, well decorated, the cocktails we re good and service was great. The problem is the food quality which is why I gave 3 out of 5. We had the Tuna crudo, it was chewy when it should feel like buttery texture. The oyster we re good nothing special. The Veal short ribs felt like it was pre-heated and also chewy. Finally, the braised crispy pork was good but we had better for way less. Basically, the kitchen in this restaurant fell to deliver compare to what they asking you to pay.

Amazing dinner and service at the bar. The T-hawk steak and tuna appetizer were fantastic!!! The Tempura Octopus was the highlight of the evening (weve ordered it twice!) Well be back soon!!!

Went here for our 10th anniversary and the service and people were amazing. The food was really good too and fairly priced for what it is.

I m a tourist from Asia, been here for a dinner. Overall the food n drinks was good and the atmosphere of this restaurant is class too.. Yet I m ok the price is a bit high side... Overall the most hated and dissatisfied part for me is Compulsory 15% tipping yet the waiter are demanding this since we tip lower and remind us next time dont do it... I been to many countries but never faced such rude demands.. Looks it was a culture for all Montreal waiters,but I cant accept it..very bad.

Nice place to go for lunch or dinner, lunch menu not very diverse but you can always find what youre looking for. Excellent service!

Retelling was definitely undercooked, tough as a nail, sauce was tasty. My husband had veal ribs, on a dry side and too sweet. Scallops were good, but only 1 scallop served (ridiculous). Wine was very good. Overall not memorable for the price $$$$. Will not be going back.

I was enjoying my night until the waiter Nicolas came and told me he s not happy with his tip and forced me to tip him again. Not good to be double face.

We liked everything we tried. But we fell in love with Avocado Carpaccio . Wouldn t order the veggies with meat. Go for the fries :) Pasta was good but on the heavier side. A little bit hyped in my opinion. The main quality of this place is the ambiance and decor. The vibes are good but he music gets a little bit too loud later in the night. Food wise, definitely good and aesthetic. I would recommend trying it out!

Arrived at 6:30pm yesterday and the restaurant was completely empty. Despite that our family of four could not get a table inside as we did not have reservations. Not recommended

If I could give this place 10 stars I would. We had a late reservation and they were able to accommodate us earlier. The ambiance is romantic - dimly lit and music isn t too loud. The service is outstanding - from the sommelier to the waitress, everyone was personable and on the ball. The food is exquisite - prepared so well, balanced flavours, and very unique. First time at Jellyfish and certainly not the last. Quite busy for a Monday evening. Atypical menu, wide variety of products. 10/10 for the oysters. Pros: friendly atmosphere, friendly staff, fresh bread made on site on request, oysters ( ) Cons: fries served cold, ribs with 60% fat... little meat. ( ) If you are there for the famous pudding chômeur, know that they do not serve it in the summer season. Thanks to Chloé our waitress!

Ok, I want to start with something very important: this restaurant is good, but the price is excessive. If youre on a budget and do not want to spend over 200$ per person (including drinks) for a night, then dont go there. You can find more affordable restaurants with the same level of cuisine in less touristic spots. Otherwise, you will for sure enjoy your time. I have enjoyed the pasta and tomahawk, both really tasty. Also, the restaurant looks really cool with the central bar and the bricks wall.

Phenomenal service! Our server was very enthusiastic about the menu and extremely friendly. Cocktails were complex yet enjoyable. Decor and atmosphere was striking and beautiful. Food was great. Would definitely recommend stopping by for an intimate dinner. S mores is a must have dessert!

My fiance cousin told us about this place . We went on a Saturday for dinner and it was a amazing experience. Food is delicious, service was great and we enjoy the terrace evening with a amazing white wine from Portugal. I definitely recommend this place.

I don t usually post BUT .. Guy turned my wife and i with two little kids away bc we wanted to have desert and coffees. More than half the patio was empty! He interrupted the waitress as she was telling us the desert menu and turned us away. Laughable. Hope his business thrives. Still love Montreal despite this set back.

Mom and I chose this restaurant to celebrate my birthday. We sat on the terrace, and our waitress was Mylène. The ambiance was calm. It was pleasant to be able to hear each other speak without straining our voices. The food was delicious. It was a playful exploration of complex tastes and textures. Our waitress was amazing. She took very good care of us. What she did for us was probably a more meaningful gift than anyone could imagine. Thank you Mylène for your kindness.

Very nice discovery. The welcome and service are top notch. The waitress explains the choices well and comes by regularly. All the food choices were tasty and original. The starters are in sharing format so if there are several of you you can taste different choices. The halibut was perfect. Dessert also for 2 unless you are very greedy. A little expensive but you wont regret

Overall, I ll give the place a 2/5, primarily because our server was thoughtful and kind, and the atmosphere was decent. But other than that, you couldn t pay me to come back, way too overpriced for the food we got. My girlfriend and I had the pani puri, filet mignon, tuna crudo, chicken, cocktails, and the recommended house red with our entrees. The tuna was not what I was expecting given the description, kind of felt like they were phoning it in and putting some sashimi on a platter and sprinkling some curry sauce on top and charging three times the price for it. The pani puri was memorable in the sense that I will remember to tell everyone who asks me about this place to never have it, it s trying to be too much and failing at all of it. The steak was good, it was rightly cooked but lacked any flavour. The chicken was dry as ash, chewing it was a chore, so much so that trying to eat it was making me thirsty. The recommended red wine was swill, I ve had better wine out of a box with a tap.

Very pleased with our visit to Jellyfish, the staff was exceptional and accommodating of our large business party with additional attendees and my specific dietary needs. All of the food was fresh, visually pleasing and delicious. Our waitress was outstanding with service and recommendations. The wine was delicious and the cocktails as well. Absolutely have to get the smores dessert - we were so full we split one and the ice cream sandwich so everyone didnt have to miss out. Dietary restrictions: Excellent at accommodating dietary restrictions including uncommon ones (my meal was dairy, garlic and pepper/spice free). And was so flavorful and delicious!

Food was absolute trash. Ordered the steak and it was served cold. The asparagus was basically raw. The oysters were good though. Server was really nice. The ambiance was cool.

Wonderful experience. Hot oyster dish was amazing, as was the rotelle pasta with oxtail. Pasta and oysters were cooked and seasoned perfectly. Our friendly and attentive waiter provided me with a wonderful cocktail, made to my specifications. I didnt know exactly what I wanted, so he asked for my preferences and whipped up the perfect blend of not-too-sweet and thirst-quenching. Highly recommend.

A great experience for a nice dinner, nothing to criticize at all. The service was great although it was busy; the atmosphere was cozy and warm and the food was on point. Tried the filet mignon and the hanger steak both were cooked to perfection tender and juicy and goes great with the rest of the plate, it all comes together very well. For the entree went with the avocado carpaccio and it was the best, light and packed with flavours. Recommend!

Pretty great experience. Love their wine somalier experience helping you to pick a wine. Ordered the bone marrow pasta becsuse of a tiktok video. It was good cooked perfectly eldente. With that said i think bc of the butter it was a bit watery in consistency but none the less a unique and great option. My partner ordered filet mignon it was okay. Not great. The night before we went to vieux port steakhouse and for similiar pricing complete perfection. The steak here was underwhelming. Thought there could be more .... portion and or unique side options like a mash puree or some option of seasoned vegetables. Not a huge fan of either bakchoy or just frites. Overall good expetience. Lovely atmosphere solid 8/10 experience but not food mastery from a menu and taste perspective and overcharging for steak that is mediocre.

Had a really great dinner here! Food was spectacular, as were the cocktails. Our server was attentive, and quick with our orders! The restaurant wass spacious, and lots of room to move between tables. Will definitely come back!

I want to start this review by saying how incredibly lovely our server was. She was very attentive and made a great effort to speak English to us throughout the meal. Super friendly and knowledgeable, her service was a 10/10!The food was also delicious, enjoyed the tuna crudo, brussel sprouts, veal ribs, and cod. However, at the very beginning the man who brought my friend and I our cocktails made racist remarks to me. He stayed at our table for quite some time continuing to be racist towards me. My reason of writing this review is not to bash the restaurant because I think it s an amazing place, I just hope that there is some sensitivity training as I wouldn t want this to happen to another person of colour.

My husband and I had a fantastic dinner there! Although the seasoning on our dishes was really ginger-heavy, our waitress and the in-house sommelier were really kind to us and offered a shot & dessert on the house. Can t wait to come back!

You are welcomed by the most lovely staff in a beautiful, chic restaurant. Our waiter Michael was attentive and agreeable. The food came out promptly and was delicious. Fresh oysters, an original burrata recipe, and homemade fries. The steak is undoubtedly one of the best steaks I ve ever had. It has a garnish of fried onion, homemade chips and I believe Parmesan and parsley (correct me if I m wrong). It was refreshing to taste such high quality steak with a different recipe. The wine selection was incredible, I have actually never seen something like that in Montréal. The espresso martini was also great. Service was swift and efficient. I d also like to mention Jonathan who made us a personalized white wine recommendation with astonishing story telling skills and dynamism. This place is the true definition of hospitality. The staff is driven by passion about what they do. It s a gem. I will be back soon. Cheers.

Very chic and unpretentious restaurant, because the service is impeccable from the moment you enter until the end of the evening.
