4771 Ave Van Horne, Montreal, Quebec H3W 1H8, Canada
Extensive menu of Chinese favourites shared at large, round tables in a bustling dining room.
One of the best Chinese restaurants I’ve tried in the city, really generous portions, fresh ingredients and fair priced. Service is great and always with a smile. Easily reachable with the metro, will definitely come back to give it another go. Salt e pepper seafood was crazy good!
I love this family restaurant. The staff works hard to give quality and tasty meals. Have been going for years with family and friends. One thing , the Laval is not the same administration… too bad. I have try it, the food is not the same, sadly…
I used to go to this location baby years ago and stopped because the food semed to have go down hill and was looking a little shabby WELL....I went for a birthday celebration and was blown away by the food, the accuracy of the dishes( there were 14 of us) and the service. I will most definitely be going back .....soon! The waiter was awesome. We made a few changes and he never got flustered or irritated. He made the changes with a smile. They must have changed cooks and mabagement
Thank you Kamshing Vanhorne for giving us such an amazing baptism celebration of our son (Oct 12, 24). You guys went all out for us from the table & chair arrangements, giving us privacy to food and very efficient service to our needs & requests. Kenny and all your crew (forgive me if I spelled your name wrong) thank you very much. We really appreciate all your hard work.
My favorite place in the area!! We love it. Our favorites are salt and pepper squid, general tao, orange beef, crispy noodles with vegetables and egg rolls. Lately we tried the lunch special, it is a huge platter and includes soup and a roll as well. Cheap, delicious and filling! Lunch special is only for weekdays. But no matter what time it is when it is, if you are looking for comfort food, you should try Kam Shing! The staff is very friendly and fun. We never had a bad experience so far given that we visit there very often. They even gave us some plants from the restaurant. If you are in the area, don’t look for another place, try Kam Shing 😍 Thank you soo so much for everything!!
Been coming here for over 25 years and it never disappoints . Quality and quantity is still the same. Definitely my favorite chinese restaurant of all time. Wonton soup, chicken fried rice, Cantonese style noodles and spare ribs are some of my favorite dishes 😋. I give it 9.5/10
Again, Kam Shing Van Home Restaurant set us up with their best menu, something irresistible and delicious. Another lovely experience that I recommend for anyone in Montreal. I longed to dive into the meal so much that I forgot to take pictures of all we had. The three courses we had there for dinner were delicious. Their fried rice was very delicious.
Best Chinese restaurant in Cote-des-Neiges. If you’re looking for HUGE portions of no frills American-Chinese fare, this is the place to check out. The beef + gailan chow mein is saucy and crunchy. General Tao, probably my favourite in town - these chunky nuggets are meaty, none of the usual giant blobs of dough they try to serve you at other places. The wontons - springy little bites of pure shrimpy goodness! They also serve the most generous portion of shrimp toast I’ve ever seen. I’ve been going to the Kam Shing in Plaza CDN for years and having noticed a drop in quality at that location, I’ve swapped over to this smaller but much friendlier locale on Van Horne. The wait staff uncles here are hilarious, so friendly and super attentive.
Top of the top , best bite best service best food best taste in Montreal I loved each bite
Delicious vegetable chow mein, chicken fried rice and general tao chicken
Wow! glad I revisited..brought back that taste -wholesome old school Chinese food from my youth... Yummmm !!
Excellent food. I loved it.
Dont think about whether to go here or not. Its a sure thing.
Awful!!! Just Awful over priced and terrible a complete waste of 30$ for general tao 2 eggrolls a rice!! If I could give less than one star I would!!!!!
I ve been a long time customer. Food was mediocre. Very disappointing. Not recommended.
One of the best restaurants in Montreal. Big portions, great service, great price
Not bad but waiter is so rude . Forced for high tips I go there some times for their food but waiter told me if you don t give enough tips don t come back I think he will destroy the reputation . Management should check this .
Amazing food! Havent been in years and food was delicious! Just as I remembered. The place was so busy, but the staff at the front for take out were polite and organized.
Nice portions and tasty food. Basic plates are $19.50 a pop . Bring your appetite! Service was friendly and excellent
Great place only sometimes waiters. Pushy
Love it here been coming for years. Duck, s&p shrimp are amazing Vegetarian options: Good choices Kid-friendliness: Bring them all the time! Wheelchair accessibility: Ez accesible
Cool place for chinese food
Food was good, only issue was the service, the waiter would constantly be staring and coming up to the table. Then when it came to tipping the waiter had the audacity to say the tip amount was not good enough for him, and was glaring at me.
Came here for take out and had a great meal. Loved the noodles and chicken, peanut butter dumplings, wonton soup, spring rolls, beef and broccoli, general tao chicken and steamed rice. Vegetarian options: Yes Wheelchair accessibility: Yes
Staff are always very friendly. Been going since I was 10yrs old, over 30 yrs. Food are always hot and freshly cooked just savoury.
Fast and friendly. Tasty for last minute needs. Closing at 9 so dont be late ordering.
really good food, could use a little extra sauce on the peanut butter dumplings. love that their still using all the same veggie ingredients in their stir fry and have not cheapened it. really good general tao
Love 1 of my favorite Chinese food
The food does not disappoint .. went for a pick up . The guy at the counter that s speaks fairly good English is a tad rude . Just a simple question and he gets sarcastic . Anyhow . Food is good , that s all I have to say .
Did the Xmas Eve thing there... Meh
Omg, they re the best (I don t know if they need promotion, really)), but everything is so gooood, and mega generous portions (especially fried rice and soups), and they are so kind, always.. Vegetarian options: Have vegetarian options (yummy as well) Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendly)
Very good! A little pricey but just enough to satisfy our cravings
Our usual go-to restaurant. Very tasty and very generous portion (ordered Cantonese fried noodles and black pepper beef rice) Extremely friendly staff and services.
Costumer service wasn t friendly. We were picking up an order and the employee was yelling at us and other costumers.
Best Chinese food in the city. Will not go anywhere else. Pam fried noodles done perfectly. No other place compares. Orange beef and general Tsao dishes are incredible. Highly recommend!
The food was mediocre at the best, everything was too sweet but edible. But, I have never seen such a service , if it can even be called that. The waiters were standing together, laughing and chatting loudly in Cantonese, totally disregarding customers, and we were only three couples there. When they served our order, my friend got her soup, and I sat and waited for mine. When she returned the soup as it was too sweet, my soup arrived. While I was eating my soup, she got the dish she ordered. She wanted to wait for me to share our dishes. I finished my soup and the waiters were still having a laugh, standing there. My dish came when my friends dish was nearly finished and so, we took my untouched dish with us. Obviously, these people never heard of serving the dishes together, and their lack of common manners was shocking. I would never go there again.
Great food but keep in mind that if you want takeout you can only place order by phone and not in store.
Theres a wanton mix soup which is very good. Esayeles, its worth it
Portions much larger than I am used to for take out. Lots of leftovers... well worth the price re: quality. *Parking is difficult at best. Street parking only Food
Great
The food is deliciously great! The ambience and restaurant is super neat and tidy. The service crew is amazingly kind and respectful. I love this restaurant!
Great service, absolutely delicious food & huge portions! Will definitely be back.
Good food at good prices
This is the best Chinese resto in MTL! Shareable portions, great flavours and friendly staff! Looking forward to trying more of their menu.
Food is amazing as usual consistently fresh and delicious however the waiters are super rude and walk up and down staring at you wanting you to finish eating so they can take the table for the lineup waiting to get seated. My advise to you is to go to the cote des neiges location as they wont harass you to finish eating and you can eat stress free!!
Very good Chinese restaurant, we will definitely go back. Servers were super nice, with kids as well. The food is delicious, generous portions. There were lots of kids so it is also family friendly.
Really good
If you happen to go there for take out and would like to see the menu .. seems that the only one available is glued to the front window. Did not feel my business was wanted. The food is good though
I ate here recently and took some newly ordered dishes to take home, just to compare with two of most popular restaurants in Chinatown. The Kam Shing so-called star dishes came out BLAND and wanting in flavor. Some friends who have stopped going to either of the Van Horne or CDN branches comment that perhaps the main cook was replaced or quit after the pandemics. I used to ignore the infuriating arrogance of some of the moody waiters due to the foods but now that their umami deliciousness is gone,no more, what is there to come back to?
It was all great. They even held our reservation and got us all seated and served in record time. Everything on the menu was great epically, Gereral Tao, and Calimar. Yum yum. Everything was great. They even held our reservation and had us all seated and served in record time. Everything on the menu was super epic, General Tao and Calimar. Yum yum.
Delicious food, friendly staff. Best Chinese restaurant in the area.
Its my second time here. Large tasty meal portions. Most impressive is the quality of service provided by the waiters; amicable, vigilant, attentive and efficient. A pleasurable experience. Thank you!
Tasty food
Like this restaurant
Alright
Very bad restaurant and food. Thanks to the experience given, I m never eating this type of cuisine again.
Ive been going for years and they have always been nice to me and the food is so amazing that I dont think saying the food is great is good enough. If I had to to say how good there food is it would be a whole easay. Amazing place I recommend
Absolutely garbage restaurant and food... gave a horrible service and then begging for tips... then telling its rule in Quebec to give tips even if u dont like anything. Wanna waste time and money, go there to eat. Horrible service.
Excellent meal, excellent service!!
Very bad food and service.. Will never go again. Worst restaurant in Montreal.. So arrogant waiter
Arrogant behaviour worst food
Absolute garbage food and service
Great food and wonderful service !
Wonton soup and noodles are great. Great price for food, very tasty. Great service, waiter kept filling our cup, pouring us soup etc. Solid experience overall.
Chinese restaurant, expertise with chownien noodles with meat, seafood and veggies recipes...
Very bad experience! Don t ever come to this place! The guy is very disrespectful!
Fresh and delicious, hearty and affordable. In my humble opinion the best Chinese restaurant in Montreal
Everything is excellent! Its worth the detour, guaranteed!
Excellent general tao!!!
Amazing orange beef, great portions!
All is pretty good, except we found hair in food
Very disappointed. Won ton soup - the shrimp dumplings in the soup were good, but the broth was tasteless. Egg rolls burnt. Pan fried noodles with chicken and broccoli - again, not much flavor. Shrimp with ginger and scallions was okay but dry. Everything was brought out at once, soup, egg rolls and all the dishes. This place has really gone down, and their prices have gone up. Wont be bqck.
Excellent food! Enormous portions at reasonable prices. Great luncheon specials. Metered street parking Food : 5/5
Excellent service, excellent portions, excellent taste, every person on the staff was smiling.( Nice to see these days) The food was delicious. General Tao was delicious, large chunks of chicken, personally I would have liked it to be more spicy (personal comment) but thats me. The portions were enough that we (my son has and I) brought home enough for a complete other meal! And we ate!! The price was quite reasonable, like I said, enough for a complete second meal! Definitely recommend Definitely will return. Parking: Parking is free after 6pm, for now. But not easy to find.
Really very good food and service. Thank you very much
My friends and i meet and dine there always. We love their cantinese fried noodles, and the crunchy chicken, also their vegetables are superb.
A must for my family and I for many years. Staff always efficient and courteous.
Excellent service, impeccable food. I cant decide which is better, this one or the restaurant on Côte des Neiges???
Invited by a friend for dinner. First, good is very good. Tasty in all the right ways. Portions are large and very good value for the price. The restaurant was clean and the staff were quick and attentive to our needs. Very pleased, solid 5 stars all day long. My only wish was that theyd have delivery, it become our regular weekly order place if they did.
It is such a treat to eat at Kam Shing. Never disappointed. Always fresh, always authentic. It s our go-to place for good Chinese food. The staff is always friendly and there are so many many regular clients , some of whom have been coming for 25+ years to eat there. My fav things to order are the wonton soup, Cantonese noodles, jumbo shrimps with ginger and General Tao s chicken. The fried rice is delish too. Two thumbs up.
I dont know for the rest of the menu but the general tao aint a general tao at all.. other then that service was good but asking 14$ for a bowl brocolis...that a bit to much for steamed brocoli but u decide
Very large portions and great food! Delicious
Everything tastes good here!! Quality and quantity all in one place. The textures are all on point too Definitely the best chinese food in the area
One of my favorite restaurants. You shouldnt stop at the decor, but rather appreciate the food. Very generous portions and very affordable.
Great food just like in Chinatown but without the parking headaches and traffic. Highly recommended.
Great Singapore noodles.
Love their egg rolls and wonton soup (shrimp dumplings!). Street (meter/pay) parking. Fast and pleasant service for a Chinese restaurant. Lunch specials available. See photo for offerings and pricing.
Best Chinese restaurant in town and good service
I found a bug in my Chow Mein. So, I m never ordering here ever again.
The lunch specials are huge
A restaurant that has existed for over 20 years. Once again its a place that brings back memories because I used to go there with my father. A mans cave with my old man. Super good value for money. Effectively simple!!
Good place to dine and order for pick up.
One of the best Chinese restaurants in the game :)
Good Asian food, reasonable price, good service. We dont go there for the decor.
Good food, plenty of choices and good service. Very busy at certain times due to a lot of customer, I think they need a bigger place.
It was my wife who went to Kim Hour
Hot food & tasty
Always excellent! And the employees are very nice. Fast!
Vegetarian options: Lots of yummy veggies Parking: Lots of parking across the street.
Great Chinese food!
Chicken and beef come apart nicely.
Great service and amazing food. I strongly recommend the shrimp fried Rice. Absolutely delicious.
Big portions for the price, very good and the man at the counter was very kind! 10/10
One of the best chinese restaurants I tried in Montreal.
Good food good price amazing service
Having not been to Kam Shing in approx 10 years, I was pleasantly surprised with my lunch visit today! Two of us ordered from the lunch menu and shared the food. The per person selection included a choice of soup, egg or spring roll, fried rice or noodles, a protein, and tea with a fortune cookie. The price ranged from $15-$16 depending on the protein. We shared a black bean beef w/ vegetables, and the General Tao Chicken, with rice & noodles. Everything was tasty, and the portions were very generous! The service was excellent ..I will certainly be going back!
Great chinese restaurant at affordable prices. Great choices!
we seated for 15 minutes and no gave us menu or offered anything and we manage to wait but since no one was entertaining us we decided to leave. there were atleast us 4 people and two tables being used and was not a busy day not sure why no one is giving a menu for us to order. we wont be eating here again.
Friendly staff and wide variety of food , i recommend this place
Ordered shrimp in lobster sauce, chicken with mixed vegetables, with bowls of rice. The food was SO good!!! Some of the best Ive had in Montreal. On the salty side, but so flavorful and savory!!! The chicken and shrimp were so juicy, tender and yummy! Will be going back very soon! The service was lovely, very kind and smiley.
Excellent, affordable, very good service, we will return, thank you!
Kam shing is no longer what it used to be. Bland food without taste its a shame...before it was so good. Last visit for me
good service, tasty dish except for the duck, the recipe needs to be reviewed
Best General Tao in Montreal!
Amazing food, and great service! The portions are large and great for sharing, and it is all delicious.
Best place to eat, the service is incredible and thats the main reason why we keep going back. The bonus is that the food is delicious. This is our go to place.
Excellent food Vegetarian options: Availability is infinite Food : 5/5 |
Best General tao on the planet !
The food is delicious
Always great food ... consistent .... SERVICE
great food
Have been going to KAM SHING for 38 yrs!!! That says it all. No other Chinese restaurant beats this one! The BEST chicken in black bean sauce with green peppers and onions. Oh yeah!
I love this place ...make sure you call and place your order before you go because nobody allowed in the place orders the food is always really good and fresh and the staff are really friendly I always have an enjoyable time there and they give me extra fortune cookies when they see all my kids
Try the General Tao in Montreal
My restaurant for the past 25 years the best in town.
Don t waste your time or money, go to the Côte-des-Neiges location. Last week I purchased salt and pepper pork chop, chicken fried rice, chicken wings and general tao, $58 and I could say it was by far the worst restaurant I ve visited. The pork was hard, like it was cooked the day before, unevenly season, the wings were burned and also hard. The general tao and fried rice, were, ok. I was very disappointing , i wanted to give it a try cause i thought it would taste just like the other location or better but not at all. I ve been going to the original Kam Shing, which use to be located a cross the street, that s over 20 years ago. Take my advice spend your money elsewhere or make sure you check your food before leaving the restaurant.
Used to be one of my favorite places for years. Tonight we bought our usual and we were fairly dissapointed. Not sure if they changed cook or why it is so different now. For example, the general taos sauce was liquidy and tasted vinegar. The peanut dumpling sauce was bland. Before we got quality food for the money paid. Now, honestly, I would not pay that much for what was served. I hope they come back to what they were before. Fingers crossed. I might try one more time in a couple of weeks and if it is the same as tonight, I will sadly cross them out of my favorites list.
This is a very good restaurant, I highly recommend it. The staff is very friendly and the portions are generous. Everything weve ordered was delicious. This is our go-to spot.
Going there since Im a baby and still my favorite restaurant!!!
Price and food are very good . Recommandation 100%
The won ton soup is very good! We also had the duck and Chinese broccoli with rice noodles. We are very satisfied with our choices. The portions are generous.
Worst General Tao I ever tasted. Never buy it from them. Expensive on 17 $ + compared to other restaurants in Cotes Des Neiges Neighborhood. Bad experience.
One of the best Chinese restaurants in this area. The food is always great; big portions and great food. The staff is always on top of the ball: great and friendly.
Amazing food, I come back every time I visit.
Worst staff. They dont know how to treat the costumers. They dont take the time to listen. First time visiting, I wont comeback. Food its Ok, had better.
Just passed
Just had this place by fluke, and was NOT disappointed by any means!! From the egg rolls to to the Singapore noodles everything and I mean everything, super fresh and tasty!!! By far the best Schezuan we had ever had! You will not be disappointed I guarantee! Plus even though I did take out when you go get your food inside the place looked clean and welcoming.
I dont know about the bad reviews but i got treated with respect and the waiters were funny and joyfull
One of the best Chinese restaurant you can find in town. Be sure to try it out!
Amazing food, no delivery, very robotic way of dealing with public. That being said, they are super on top of covid protocols which leads me to belive they were not this systematic before. Food took a long time for pick up, they said 45 mins and it was over an hour...but hey, we also went on a Sunday eve at 545 and they were super busy for a reason (back to the amazing food). 4 stars only because I did not see delivery option on any of the many signs of instructions on their front window and was not offered as a choice when calling.
Food poisoning ! Got take out for 3 of us, and all of us got sick a couple of hours later. Called the restaurant (before posting this) and they did not care. Be careful !
Kam Shing (Van Horn location) is my go to place for an affordable and delicious Chinese food. As an aficionado of beef fried noodles with Chinese brocoli (chow mein), I can certify the legitimacy of their dish. Generous portion, excellent crunch from the pan fried noodles, just enough sauce, tender beef and crisp Chinese brocoli (tip: specify Chinese brocoli : gai lan). Add a bit of condiments consisting of hot sauce and red vinegar (certifiable tip right here) and you know it s an absolute delight. Also certifiable dishes were wonton soup and fried rice, generous and delicious. Well done mates.
I called the second number which they didnt answer. I went in to make a take-out order and they said they only accept them by phone. I had to go outside and phone in to order. They couldnt give me a take-out menu either. The food was OK but not a pleasant experience
Absolutely delicious. So happy that they are open again.
One of the best restaurants in Montreal. Food is very good, specially their roasted duck. Price is fair and staff are super nice. They are also very strict in falling health rules in regards to covid19.
Best around in top 10
Best hot and sour soup in Montreal - bar none.
Chinatown is the best But if you cant make it there, Kam Shing has some of the favorite commercialized style Chinese food dishes North Americans like. General Taos chicken, salt and pepper pork chops, fried rice, cantonese chow mein, salt and pepper squid, honey garlic spareribs and much more.
My favorite place to get Chinese food in the city.
Prices are high comparing to the quality of the food you get.
Good Chinese food but really need to change your take out containers to ones that won t spill.
One of the best Chinese restaurants in the city! Great food, good price and portioning is great! I m never disappointed when I come here
