Krapow in Montreal

Maybe I had too many expectations, but I found that the experience was okay overall, nothing more. The dishes are tasty, but rather expensive for the price. Also, the menu is really limited in terms of choice. The advantage is that everything is gluten-free. Fast service, the place is more suitable for lunch than dinner.

Pass by a small restaurant afternoon, their krapow is good , should be back.

I love beef krapow!! Tasty!

I ordered the beef Rendag via doordash. The taste is good at first since it has tasteful spices. However, the dish was Extremely Salty!! I had a hard time finishing it. I think it could be a good dish if they reduce the salt a bit, I would order the other dishes since it might be only this time that they accidently added too much salt

Expensive. $20 for krapow.... Tasted like sweet beef made by a white person who doesnt know Thai food The most authentic thing about it is the chilli. Sad. Edit: owner is a jerk.

Since the change of location the restaurant is practically empty, and the sharp rise in prices simply discourages people from going there... too bad for an establishment which boasted of being one of the last bastions of affordable meals. 2022: All the dishes on the menu are worth the detour and come in good portions, the service is fast and the staff always pleasant, one of my favorite fast food restaurants on the board.

Seriously crave-worthy food. If you want a meal that will never disappoint you, is hearty, cozy, and comforting, just come here. All versions of the Krapow are delicious, the rendang is great. Havent tried the laksa yet, but we order from here or get takeout probably once a month for years. We bring our friends when they visit, they always remember it as an amazing meal they want to come back to next time they visit. The staff is amazing, so kind and friendly even when theyre super busy. You can see the love and care that goes into making each meal as perfect of an experience as it can possibly get. The menu does not need to be huge to achieve excellence. The new location is very nice and there are plenty of seating opportunities. If its full, theres a big park next door with seating so youre never really in a pickle. Nearby to the Mont Royal metro station on the orange line.

Delicious food with really great options for those that are gluten free (they are fully gluten free) vegetarian, and vegan. my favourite was the laska végane which is a Malaysian food with noodles, mushrooms, bok choy, chillies, sprouts and more. Definitely has a bit of a kick to it but the flavours are phenomenal and very authentic. They also have a beyond krapow which is served with an egg, rice and bok choy that surprisingly tastes like the regular thing. Great service all around and fantastic food

The overall portion size of the Tom Kha was *really* small- not too bad in terms of the protein, and it *was* tasty while it lasted- but this meal portion was served (by delivery) in the same size cup as the appetizer Som Tam. And then the Som Tam- this was probably a *bit* more quantity than the other Thai restaurants tend to give- but wayyyy less flavour. Might give it another shot on-premises and order a non-soup main (and try to scope whether the soups are larger portion on-premises)- I want to believe the other reviews, and this is the closest Thai spot to my apartment, but for now my choice of Thai delivery will be elsewhere

One of the best Thai authentic restaurant in Montreal/Canada. It s a very cute restaurant with delicious food and excellent service. The menu is small but all food prepared fresh with flavour . I will recommend anyone visiting Montreal to try this place.

Gluten free friendly, simple, light, and healthy. Everything on the menu is spicy, but even though I have low tolerance to spicy, I was able to eat most of the krapow beef I ordered. I took out the rest. Still for what it is, I thought it was a bit pricey.

Great restaurant. Formerly Tampopo was a restaurant that we also loved. They kept the Asian and warm spirit. We tasted the ground beef dish with rice and egg: pure delight! The lemon ginger beer was also very good. The waitress was very friendly and gave us water for our dog! We will definitely come back!

Small, casual restaurant. Chairs werent the most comfortable, but the service was excellent, and the open kitchen was clean and fun to observe. Its a very limited menu, but the food was delicious. The flavored sparkling coconut waters were a unique accompaniment.

Ordered here for the first time and picked it up to go, I got a beef krapow and a beef rendang and halfway through the meal my partner found a piece of plastic in the rendang. A couple of minutes later, I found a long hair at the bottom of the rice in my krapow. Absolutely disgusting, I won t be going back.

My partner is a celiac so the gluten-free menu was what drew us here but the food was incredible. We shared the two beef dishes on the menu, including the signature Krapow Beef, and both were awesome. The baby bok choy that accompanied both dishes was also out of this world good. We plan to go back again this week before we leave Montreal. Delish!

I had a disappointing experience at this restaurant. I had to wait almost 40 minutes to collect my order which is unacceptable. The service lacks professionalism and there seems to be a serious organizational problem. I dont recommend this place if youre looking for fast, efficient service.

Amazing food! The beef Krapow was definitely the highlight of the meal. It has a very homey feel to it. The strong and flavorful beef is really well balanced with the soft and well-prepared coconut rice. Great atmosphere. The food was served very quickly and the service done by Sophie was exquisite!

Ordered in for the first time, the dish is honestly elegant for supposedly street food style cuisine. The flavours are impressive. The portion looked small in the container but was actually a lot was very happy. More chicken than almost all other spots and lots of nice rice.

Amazing place for either takeout or dine in. Delicious Southeast Asian food place that can t do wrong. The food taste and quality is reliable and a hole in the wall kind of place to bring people to.

The oil from the restaurant is thrown on the ground on the sidewalk behind and its really disgusting. There are also some in the plants in the park next door and a little further on in the same square. Edit: you cleaned a little, there are still stains everywhere, even on Mentana where there is a huge stain from last year. Also, it wasnt me who you spoke to previously.

Best authentic south East Asian food in Montreal ! The meal is as real as it gets, the flavours are truly amazing, and the place is really enjoyable to dine in now they changed location with the right Asian bistrot vibes. I lived in south east Asia for a while and that is the first time I could taste what feels like an instant travel back there love!! Vegetarian options: They don t have vegan options (as they use fish sauce) but their vegetarian option is absolutely delicious and highly recommend the beyond meat krapow! Always a dish of the same quality! Glad that the place is now more up to par with the dishes served as well as the atmosphere which is better for eating there. Delicious food and super nice staff. Had both the beef and chicken plates. Chicken was my favorite, although beef is also really good. Came here with a group of 4 for Lunch, can confidently say as an Indonesian, the food reminded me of home. Definitely recommend the Beef Rendang and the Beef Krapow. Will come again!

Unfortunately the same experience as another customer the last time I came to Krapov 40min waiting on site for a completely overcooked and dry dish. In short, big disappointment for me who had nevertheless appreciated my first visit to this place. I dont think Ill go back because theres not even an excuse for making me wait so long to end up serving me a poorly cooked meal.

We walked past this place and smelled something too delicious not to go back. Always follow your nose, guys. This place is nothing short of outstanding. Outstanding food, outstanding service, outstanding price. We had the rendang and the signature Krapow dish. Both had rich, well-thought out flavours and were served with coconut rice and bokchoy. Plated very artfully too. Service was brilliant. Definitely coming back!

Excellent meal! I had the veggie rawon and it was a very comforting dish. My boyfriend is gluten-free and we love Asian food, so this is our new go-to place! Vegetarian options: There are always at least two vegetarian dishes.

Spend your money here. Get the Krapow, add an extra egg, and the Tom Kha Gai Soup ( make it real spicy). Mix the Krapow with the soup and youre in literal heaven. Just pure delicious, better than anything your grandma makes.

The Krapow was delicious as per usual. However, this time when my partner ordered the beef rendang, the meat was very chewy and had a lot of connective tissue in it. This was a huge difference compared to the usual pulled pork-like texture that it usually has. Disappointed in todays take out meal.

The beyond meat option and specials and other vegetarian specials are all out of this world. these pictures are of a couple of their vegetarian specials in May and July 2023. They may look similar but each one is unique. they keep making new specials so the fun never ends and I have to keep ordering them to not miss out the quality ingredients they use including the tofu make it so satisfying and the portion size is just right! I wouldn t mind a bigger portion though lol

I had to order takeaway quickly. I can say that the waitress was able to advise me on a very quick and delicious dish, Randeng beef, ready in 5 minutes. The beef in sauce, the rice and the Bok choi, everything was very good and seemed fresh. I would come back!

The only good Mont-Royal gluten free place. Yes, you can go to sushi places and take your chances but it will never compare to the filling and flavorful experience here. If you want to be careful as a celiac person, the kitchen is fully visible so you can discreetly take a look if you want. Ive also tried the soup before but the quantity is too small to my liking. Btw, my dish is the chicken dish with extra meat.

Krapow (Mont-Royal E. Plateau) Friday September 1st 2023 6:20 pm 1. Krapow beef 2. Sambal belacan chicken 3. Rendang beef The rendang beef was a nice surprise - the sauce was tasty and complex. More aromatic fresh basil for the beef krapow (we tasted only some mint), and more sambal belacan sauce for the chicken (the reason I decided that we tried this place) are desirable. Wok temperature and the feel that the proteins being freshly seared were lacking in both dishes. Ideally the veggies should be better cooked as well. Rice was good, though Samuel didnt like the small grains I think. Packaging needs improvement. The single-layered paper bag containing the rendang round box, and the box lid itself, were soaked in oil. Worth trying again sometime nonetheless when cravings hit again.

The Sambal chicken is out of this world and tasty. The coconut rice and baby bok choy served as accompaniment are delightful. They include a bird chilli you can cut up if you like spice so that works for me. Their Tom Kha is not spicy enough imo, but still tasty. They just moved location and the new place is very cute with more space to sit. Their music is also always great. Basically, Im a huge fan.

Moving Krapow is now located in the former Tampopo premises (see photos). Ive been going to Krapow since their beginnings, Indonesian, Thai & Malaysian inspired food. Original, spicy food and sought-after flavors. Good portions. The new location quadruples the space for indoor dining. I recommend the Beef Rendang or Chicken Sambal Belacan. Very rare for me to comment negatively but the quality was clearly not there. Inedible. The waiter, informed of the situation, said he was sorry. They did not offer a replacement dish and still charged the full price. The waiter was obviously very uncomfortable. Basically, if they screw up, it s the customer s problem, not theirs. You will have been notified.

Delicious Indonesian food and lovely service. Dont worry about spiciness, even the dishes with two flames (the spiciest) wont hurt you too much. And if youre a fan of hot food the waiters can serve you some extra chili.

Met up here with some friends more than once, we enjoyed the outdoor vibes and tried a little of everything! Nothing has let us down yet, and every egg was worthy of foodporn, so I feel I can safely recommend this to foodies and instagrammers alike. Facilities are clean and comfortable, good music and friendly staff attentive without being overbearing. I believe the outdoors to be pet friendly as well . Something to draw attention to is the spice options (which is the part of this review where I also recommend this place to daredevils ) as it starts at a really nice humble spice and you may choose to charge it up! Max level POW as per the business name at your own risk ofcourse ;)! Krapaow was a comfort food for me when I lived in Thailand, and I ve never found a vegetarian option that was nearly as well polished as this! So if youve come to reviews to know whats got to try I m going to say a hot beyond-meat krapow! even if you aren t a vegetarian. Final thing, if you re reading this around christmas try the red curry special! (Also vegetarian)

Dishes were packed with flavour, good quality ingredients, we liked how we could choose the spiciness level as indicated on their menu. We chose the medium spicy level which was just a perfect combination of spicy and flavourful!

Ate here last night and everything was on point. Simple menu, potential allergens in each meal posted on the menu, tasty fragrant food with a balance of flavors, and the service is great. The owner was working with only one other person and had many customers coming in, but managed to handle everything in very reasonable time and offers great customer service too, super friendly! You can tell they love and care about what they do and want to offer the best experience possible. Will definitely be back :) Dietary restrictions: All of the allergens are posted on the menu. As someone with allergies to many key ingredients in asian dishes, I am always cautious when going to asian restaurants, but I had the Beef Krapow and no allergic reactions whatsoever, I actually felt good after eating it.

Kra-POW! WOW! We stumbled upon this sweet little spot, when our bellies grumbled for the smell of their pot. The atmosphere was warm and pleasant, better than our anti depressant! From the moment the food touched our lips, it filled us right up and down to our hips. We ve never left a review before, but because of this spot we might do more .

I and my partner have been here several times, and I just had this delivered. We ve tried their krapow dish but I love and prefer the rendang. Pictures below is one delivery and two in house. It s a small shop but it does something a lot of restaurants suck at which is that it s consistent. The food is tasty, but it s also always the same which is rare in Montreal. I strongly recommend ordering from this place or stopping by in person, though the seating at the restaurant is very very limited. Perfect food for the fall, it has some spice but I imagine most people will enjoy its level.
