larrys is a bustling all day-all evening-cafe-restaurant-wine bar-breakfast-joint showcasing many of Lawrence’s endeavours in a more casual and pared down manner. No reservations.
Everything here is so good. They make their own ham, and the cold-cut sandwich is unbelievably good. The roasted tomatoes and mushrooms are incredible and keep me coming back time after time. Menu items are fairly simple but a tour de force in making the simple, excellent. Love the cocktails too.
Best brunch spot hands down, puts to shame the other big name a few meters away on Fairmount. Worth every penny. Best breakfast sandwich I've had!!! If you get the drip coffee, they keep refilling it... Small hack for coffee drinkers. Brunch is also a lot higher quality than the dinner menu I find.
Food was good, price includes tip already so pricing is reasonable. The fries were amazing as was the scrambled eggs, though a tad on the saltier side. Went back a second time and it was just as good as the first time. Started with the ceviche this time and the cubes of fish were cut nice and thick, super fresh. Flavoring a bit more on the tart side but overall was a very nice starter. Tried the pork chop as the main and it was cooked perfectly, seasoned welll and very juicy. The part near the bone was especially good.
I ate at the bar here for a late afternoon meal before heading to the airport. The vibe was lovely, the service was friendly, and it was a great spot to post up, read and have a meal by yourself. I would come back here when I come back to Montreal and try more food items. All of their wines are natural wines, which I love.
Everything hit with our dinner order this past week. I thought it was all delicious and the wine selection was great. The Heirloom Tomatoes + Anchovy were perfectly salted & balanced with olive oil. Really delicious and fresh. Kedgeree was something completely new to my knowledge and it was really delicious. Think, curry flavored rice with flaky fish. The tomato added sweetness, really delicious! The pork chop was also good as well. Sous vied, so perfect interior. A bit rough at some points but the sage leaf + sauce combo made up for it. As a 24 y/o, I’ve never heard of piquette wine and now I’m a huge fan. If they still have it, it’s perfect for summer / tail end of summer. If you’re super hungry and come here, expect a hefty bill. We were just peckish and spent $100CAD.
The menu at this establishment is not very clear, making it difficult to understand what you’re ordering. If you’re looking to have a full, proper meal, you might end up paying significantly more than expected. Clarity and pricing transparency could be improved to enhance the dining experience. And we ended up leaving the restaurant
Vibes are great here! For the price and ambiance I maybe expected a bit more flourish in the overall presentation of the food but the food itself was tasty. I understand that the tip is included in menu prices as well, so i hope it’s generous for the staff who do a great job.
Amazing restaurant! I found this on a top restaurant list and it did not disappoint. It had a great atmosphere, inside and out. The weather was perfect so we sat on the outdoor patio. We got the yogurt and granola and a toast plate with sides. I could have eaten 10 slices of that toast — fresh from a local bakery. + don’t sleep on the mushrooms! Overall, amazing experience.
Nice small plates to share. The best coffee, great wine list. Delicious brunch. They have it all. You cant go wrong here.
Vegetarian options: We were 3 and feasted on vegetarian only dishes. Lots of great options to choose from Food
Really enjoyed breakfast
Cold and pressing atmosphere. Unreasonable price for the portion and composition of very basic dishes. $50 for a tiny soup with bread ($8) and a sandwich. Tips are included in the price of the meals, unfortunately the service is not very friendly and attentive which leaves a bitter taste in the $14 soup. I do not recommend
Meat lovers paradise. Friendly staff and top notch food.
It s ridiculous, small plates with poorly crafted dishes. I advise against it.
I just had the sweetest time at Larry s! The tartare was to die for so fresh and tasty. I paired it with a lovely glass of wine that made my heart sing. The cozy vibe and friendly staff made it feel like a warm hug. Can t wait to go back for more!
Kind staff, but bad price/portion tradeoff and I felt sick after eating the spiced cauliflower. Know you should cook some spices first!
Overpriced, they wouldnt cut the burger. No Splenda, no diet soft drinks. Burger fries salad for one $65. Would not return Food was tasty Food
Beef tartare baybeeee.
Immediately need to say this place is all hype and hipster driven. The staff is graduated/former Urban Outfitter employees and so is a majority of the clientele. The guy working the front door this Sunday was notably daft. There s not even 10 things on the lunch menu and it takes 45+ minutes to get a TAKE OUT order. Food was average to below. Atmosphere also leaves something to be desired at least in the day time. Space is WAY too small for as many tables as they have jammed in. What I m saying is it s a hard skip.
First thing I want to mention about this restaurant is that they don t accept tips. All gratuities are included in the price you see on the menu. All the items we order was so good and fresh. Service was warm/friendly and fast even though the place was packed. Great brunch spot in Montreal. One of my go to s!
Good ingredients
Overpriced and just a hype! I went here for 2 breakfast sandwiches and two coffees for takeout. The coffee size was not even small it was extra small with a price of Large coffee. The sandwiches were also overpriced. In the end, she told me the service is included without even giving me the option to choose the tip percentage even though it was take out. The place is small and cramped and they immediately asked me to stand outside to wait for my order! She came on the street to give my coffees!
not worth the price at all, wouldn t recommend. a mix of a random selection of plates, subpar quality & underwhelming service.
The server ruined it. We ve been to Larry s twice before and had an amazing experience. Yesterday we went to Larry s for dinner and the tall blonde waitress was grumpy and didn t appear to want to serve us. The Kedgeree (curried rice) was bland. $20 for 6 pieces of cauliflower (AYFKM?!). Don t waste your money. Go to l express on St-Denis for amazing food, or Hélicoptère in HoMa for amazing service.
Great brunch, super nice staff.
The salmon belly with jerk spices was very good. The bread was made in house as well.
My go to Brunch spot in the Mile End! Homemade bread toasted with omelette is to die for. So so so good!
Beautiful little refreshment bar, the small dishes were very good! Large terrace in summer. Tip is included. Portions a little small. For big appetites the bill adds up quickly.
There are succulent and specific dishes. The waitresses are welcomed and we feel good.
My my my my
The breakfast sandwich was perfect. Staff were lovely.
Excellent food but the portions are VERY small. Some tapas places advertise themselves as such but this one doesn t. The menu is minimalistic which is often a good sign but in this case it is not. If you are hungry go elsewhere.
Very good atmosphere, and deserts are not too sugary
I love this place . Their food is amazing !!! I love their inclusive tip business model so you don t have to worry about choosing how much you want to tip them. A must try for someone who s new to Melbourne. They do nice drinks too
Service a bit slow but nice small plates. Read a comment here that said to not sleep on the mushrooms and I m glad I didn t
The waitress was very helpful. Good quality of the menus: mackerel spaghetti and roast beef were very tasty Our wish for a non dairy option has been respected. Food : 4/5
Great atmosphere and food, would definitely recommend the ceviche and sandwich!
The vegetarian breakfast sandwich: incredible
Strolled into this gem of atmosphere looking for a bite. The staff is superb, and the food is top notch. I ordered the anchovies, bread and butter, liver, and the soup (gazpacho). Everything was great. Their wine list is legit.
This place is great for brunch, lunch, dinner and drinks. Staff really know their wines. Super knowledgeable. X
Slightly underwhelming food experience.
Perfect meal
Nice brunch spot.
The portions are tiny, it s ridiculous! We paid $88 for 3 eggs and 2 scrambled eggs, 1 salmon and 1 bacon and 3 coffees, without bread or toast. There was food for only 1 person, it s a steal!!! The coffee and cappuccino is not good, it is tiny too. I dont understand how people are happy. They even refused to let my 8 year old daughter eat the sweet bagel I bought at Fairmunt for her. It s shameful!!! Its a place for rich people who want to eat something overly expensive, in a place that seems to be popular but isnt. Dont go there! We came out hungry and went elsewhere to eat.
Service was great right from the moment we walked in. Sat at a spot at the bar and were served quickly. Lattes were great! Breakfast sandwich and steak tartare caught our eye (a lot of people also had these at their table), so we split those with a side of fries. Everything was delish! Highly recommend. Also note the menu includes tip!
Proof you don t always get what you paid for. Overall under-thought dishes with extravagant price points. Service was ok.
Great place to enjoy some shared food with friends and have some drinks. We went near kitchen closing time and they still generously seated us and at no point us made us feel rushed. Every single plate was seasonal and tasted good, ceviche was a highlight. Extra plus for the tip being included in all the items so the staff is paid fairly and what you see is what you pay.
Great food, its sort of a small plate sharable style, Quebec tapas if you will. Good drinks as well, and super friendly and hospitable staff. Id recommend specific dishes, but the menu is seasonal and changes often, so get a special or seasonal dish! Also cant go wrong with the beef tartar, civeche, and the Roasted mushrooms.
5 gold stars to everything.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Just had food- need to put this review because I was extremely disappointed with the poor service. Service does not listen or accommodate. They have a no tipping model, which I think is great. But I believe they use it as an excuse to get away with absolutely horrendous service. For example, they sat me right next to the door with all the waiters bumping my head while moving around . I requested the waiter for a switch. I understand the inability to do so; however, he didn t even finish listening to me and left. Not sure if it is because of my race or the way I speak but definitely felt unheard and invisible. Not what you want to feel at a restaurant. Food was ok but that doesn t justify the service. A restaurant is about providing customers with an experience, not stuffing them and sending them on their way.
So good. Food, location, service. The burger was magical.
As foodies from Bklyn, NY, we never miss a trip to Larry s for breakfast and & Lawrence for dinner when we visit lovely Montreal! Their scone s a work of laminated pastry art!
Bad experience. Having a coffee is more like having a good time, which is no longer the case. Indifferent waiters not smiling, throwing coffee at us, cups not clean, disgusting presentation. (The photo shows how they served us coffee)
If i would have to give less than a star i would, a disrespectful service , tasteless cafe .
This is a mile end favorite with fresh ingredients and great food. Everything you have here may sound simple but has very unique and fresh flavours. We loved every single dish we had especially the mussel and peas with mint. This is a place you can come back to often for lunch, brunch, dinner or just an afternoon snack Vegetarian options: Plenty vegetarian options on the menu Parking: The area I generally hard to park in but you can generally find parking on saint Laurent street or the side streets Kid-friendliness: Probably more suitable for older kids but there s a few things to eat on the menu that s not necessarily for kids but that could do
Wonderful place. The food is excellent, the place warm and relaxed. The service is top notch with a lot of attention paid to customers
Cute space, beautiful people and excellent service. Fresh ingredients in small quantities. Unfortunately, flavours aren t really flavouring. The dishes sound delicious yet taste disappointing. The price would be worth it if it was yum but it is not yum. It a giving mid.
Cozy restaurant, large choice of small plates so that you can only what you want to eat - no brain drainer. Fresh and tasty food. Great place for sharing a meal with friends and family. Dietary restrictions: Dairy-free, gluten-free
Ive never exclaimed this lettuce is so good! Until today at Larrys. Delicious breakfast sandwich, bomb lentils.
Lovely place to dine in. The beer was good. My friends had the beef tartare and I had the burger. Good biodynamic wines too. Staff were lovely too. Staff knowledgable about the produce and where it came from. Got to taste the wine before ordering Ooh not forgetting the chips in beef fat. Excellent
One of my favourite spots for brunch--the best breakfast sandwich in the city (the vegetarian one is the second best)! Coffee is great, and service is always good.
Best breakfast I have ever had? Deceptively simple but so so good. Breakfast sandwich and the house jam were particularly good.
The place is losing is luster. I have been visiting regularly for almost 8 years, and the creativity and generosity of flavours that used to characterize the place is vanishing. Service is almost indifferent (during my last meal there, one item was never delivered and still billed, and when I brought it up to the waitress attention, she just asked whether I wanted to have it... once the table had been cleaned and the card machine had been brought to us. I think she could not care less and never offered a whiff of apology). I am bit saddened to see the place go this way, but there are many tourists who still need to be fed and a multitude of of more caring places for locals.
It was good but 16 CAD for that?! Its too expensive! More quantity please
Beautiful atmosphere and great service! 5 stars!!!!
Incredible mackerel spaghetti and the pink Rosie cocktail was so dreamy, will go back for it. Bit expensive if you re very hungry, but worth it for the quality when you want to splurge and enjoy the vibes. They have service/tips included in the pricing - progressive structure - love that. Sitting at the bar is very fun to watch the complicated cocktails being made and chat with the staff, they were super friendly. Oyster shucking could be improved but still delicious, loved the Smokey mignonette.
Ridiculously small portions, poor value for money, restaurant on the side. Tartare good but the rest of the dishes were very disappointing too bad restaurant well located and pleasant staff
Beautiful terrace, very pleasant concept of type included in the prices, simple food, but well worked and successful.
The food is meh. Smallest sharing plates ever. If you are hungry you won t be satisfied. Breakfast sandwich is not tasty and runny. The only good thing is atmosphere and location. Not worthy for pictures. I had vegetarian breakfast sandwich which had no flavour, mushrooms were meh, and French fries were standard with mayo. I would not go back for overpriced brunch.
Very nice cozy place with great selection of drinks. Dishes were fresh and tasty . You might find price seems higher but tip is included in the price!! At the end it isn t that pricy at all
I was on the hunt for oysters in the neighborhood and found on Google Maps larrys what a great find! Service was amazing and friendly the moment you stepped inside. I ordered 6 oysters initially they were so delicious, I ordered another 6. Fantastic menu I hope to have a chance to try other items on my next visit.
I heard great things about this place, so my expectations were high. While the service was good and the place is cute, the food left me disappointed. Ive ordered fries, which were so bad that I didnt even finish them. Their oyster mushroom at $19 is a tiny portion and was ok. Their boudin wasnt good either. Overall, I find it a bit overpriced and unfulfilling.
Very unique menu of small plates thats like breakfast diner meets fine dining.
3 times at Larry s. first 2 times were impeccable. Yesterday we had the worst attitude from the waitress. Every question was answered in a condescending manner, a smile was a foreign concept.. food was perfect as usual. Eventually the service switched to her other colleagues and was decent. Too many lovely options in our city to bother returning here. Service is included in price, cool concept but in this particular case it really felt like why even bother being polite, the tip is included.
Really average
Too expensive
Fun place to share small plates. I go back often for their ceviche and lentil salad. Tips are included in the price! The employees are really professional and often have fun looks. Delicious food, fun playlist, good staff.
Good selection of wine and menu to share. On the other hand, the prices are really steep. Really too expensive for what it is.
Note that pricing seems to be on the higher side but it includes services/tip . Most items are essentially an appetizer size item. Theres a possibility to get out with 50$ meal all included. No reservation but they accept to take your name and let you know when its available. Good thing as it was pretty busy the whole time Vegetarian options: Theres veggies options. Enough to have full meal. Vegan its not so sure. Though Kid-friendliness: There was multiple tables with kids.
A small and cozy restaurant. Very nice vibe and staff. Simple but very tasty appetizers and a good selection of wine. I highly recommend stopping by if you are in these places.
Really basic service. Not very warm welcome. We do the minimum and barely. I had to get up twice to ask for what I needed. Food ok, but its nothing refined and its overpriced. My advice: go elsewhere.
Amazing neighbourhood restaurant literally 500 m from my condo that service drinks food and atmosphere. Larry is three thumbs up.
Basic cuisine but very well executed, a little bit overpriced IMHO (especially the wine), service goes from disorganized to super friendly / attentive
Were going back
Nice for breakfast with a simple menu. Food was very tasty and the waitress was so nice Definitely recommend the breakfast sandwich. The hostess was so friendly and helped us out with some recommendations for the day!
I was pumped on this spot, but ultimately I thought the food was pretty average. Thé Glacé was nice though.
I decided on the spur of the moment to take a trip to Montreal with my daughters. It was a good drive, not much traffic to speak of. The border patrol was pleasant. The scenery is beautiful. And the atmosphere is friendly. We happened upon Larry s. The menu was wonderful with many selections. We ordered Rare steak with Chimichurri, pulled pork sandwich, and beef tartare. All were quite tasty. The pulled pork sandwich was too spicy to eat. Overall it was a good meal. The wait staff was pleasant, noticed we were from out of town and asked where we had travelled from. They seemed nice so I told them. We finished our meal and I asked for the check. When it came I was going to tip, until, I saw that there was a service fee/charge. This was very disappointing. When we asked our hotel concierge about it, he had said that service fees are only applied to groups of six or more. I have been to Montreal before, but never encountered this. Next time I will refrain from telling anyone where we are from, as I certainly wasn t expecting for me and my young children to be profiled over it. They have been scarred over it and can t understand why we were singled out. Now I have to explain. So I give it five stars for the food and one star for service because our food was delivered to us and the orders were correct.
great service great vibe great food
The tartare was delectable!
It was great. The service, the atmosphere and the food. We had hamburgers (non-vegan), they were tasty
Lovely wine selection, great service, and some of the best scones Ive ever had.
Super nice cozy place. Menu looks like a list of ingredients. If you order a sandwich its just a sandwich. If you order meat, its just meat (without accompaniments). Probably its a concept. But if its your first time its a tad disappointing. What is good about the place is that the tips are included in the price! I wish more restaurants adopted this style. And finally the service..... Its not rude. And staff is smiling. But the overall vibe feels like most of them very much dislike their job. Vegetarian options: There are a lot.
Food, service, atmosphere are all perfect. I used to come here for bunch when it was still Lawrence. I feel that the new place is quite similar in many ways. Very tasty, reasonably priced, great coffee, and the apple juice is incredible. An institution in Montreal.
Excellent place to go for a good brunch!
Can t wait to go back! Great food and atmosphere A Montréal must !
Excellent fare and lovely engaging servers. Try the off menu wines!
My friend and I went for New Years Eve dinner yesterday. We were welcomed and quickly seated at the bar, which we like. This was our first visit to this restaurant. My friend being a restaurateur, we often go to restaurants during his holidays and we had heard a lot about this restaurant where tipping is included in the prices which we found really interesting... except that we had NO service. The bartender came to see us for our cocktails. We mentioned wanting to drink our cocktails quietly before eating. He said to us well how soon? Like 30 minutes? » Finally 5 minutes later our first plate arrived without us having finished our cocktails. We left the dish aside while we finished (it s not a big deal, we told ourselves). After our cocktail, we wanted a bottle of wine. No one came to see if we wanted anything else to drink once we finished our cocktails. It was when our second course arrived that I asked the waitress for the wine list. The bartender who was supposed to serve us polished glasses, washed his coffee machine, drank his glass, chatted with his colleagues in the back without ever coming to see us. He finally came to remove our dishes and the water jug to fill it. He was so inattentive that he never brought it back. I had to help myself later from the jug of the couple next door who had left. Finally, as no one came to see us, it was impossible to order wine. We therefore paid (the tip included, but without having had service) much too much for dishes that were not very generous, in which they lacked salt. We left and ordered ourselves a poutine which we ate at home with our desired bottle of wine all evening. January 1st and probably my worst restaurant experience of 2024. Including the tip should ensure exemplary service, it was very inconvenient. We will not return there and will not recommend either. Damage!
We wanted to have a drink, but the waitress kept coming to check on us because she thought we werent ordering enough.
One of my top 5 favourite restaurants in Montreal. While it is located in the Plateau (in the heart of many good restaurant finds), this place stands out. While it offers a smaller (albeit, tighter) dining area, the atmosphere is very cozy, pleasant and intimate. Note: They rarely (if not even) take any reservations and it is first come first served. However, they have a great system to put you in an electronic waitlist and you get a text once a table is ready for you. The service is amazing in a sense that the servers are well organized, flow through the dining area seamlessly and professionally, and are kept abreast with the menu. Did I mention no tipping is required?? The owners pay the servers a fair and decent wage and everyone seems to take pride in that. The larrys menu keeps its best-seller staples (e.g pork chop, sausages) while alternating between seasonal items (e.g. cold soup in the summer). In my opinion, this spices things up so I have something new to look forward to each time I visit. I only put 4 stars for the food criteria though because I do find that the meat cooked can be inconsistent. It is still delicious and edible, but it is clear the way it is cooked is different, probably because of different chefs and different days? I rated larrys an overall 5/5 though since I can overlook this difference.
Very disappointing. The portions are so tiny. Everything is optional. And the prices are unreasonably high. There were four of us at lunch and we were unanimously disappointed. We will definitely not go back.
Very nice place, nice dishes and very friendly staff
Great staff, good food. I loved the veggie burger, roasted beets and roasted squash.
OMG best brunch meal in Quebec!!!
one of the best meals i ve had in montreal during this trip. everything was amazing (except i wasn t big fan of the porchetta sandwich) and prices were good. my highlights were the french fries (so fire), mackerel spaghetti, and beef tartare. i really want to come back and try more food here.
One of the best, in a city thats already known for good food. Ive tried all of their family style plates and theres nothing that I wouldnt recommend. Havent had their brunch or sandwiches.
Great food, fair prices
Had the bang mi. Not it. Was a workout eating the bread
bustling cool patio, had a delicious mackerel spaghetti and some rose, friendly service, would recommend
Top notch all around.
Small but tasty bites. More expensive than other neighborhood spots.
Amazing food. Youve gotta try the food. I promise youll be happy
Shrimp on toast is amazing! Everything was top notch.
Ive never been but its so brilliant to include the service in the price
Cuban sandwich with high quality ingredients, the flavors were there. The beef tartare was perfectly seasoned. The tip is included in the price, I love the whole concept. Well done !
I have been wanting to try this place for a while, and must say I wasnt quite impressed. The food was OK. A touch too heavy, but the portions small. The drinks were good, but then again, I was here for food rather than drinks. Worth a try I guess but nothing out of the ordinary.
Amazing experience, had lunch around 3 pm, it was great. Service and food was great. The pie was the best I ve tried in my life.
A bit into a succulent sausage sandwich, with crispy bread and juicy meat. I enjoyed the soft and buttery scones, topped with sweet jam and rich cream. I relished the fluffy and creamy scrambled eggs, paired with savory and tender mushrooms. It was a breakfast fit for a king, and I felt grateful for every bite.
Great food with extremely friendly staff and best of all, very accommodating and baby friendly! They have counter seats, high chairs, and changing tables in the bathroom.
Best Fiddleheads ever!
The flavour explodes in your mouth! That s the most descriptive thing my wife heard me say of food Interesting concept of what the restaurant is heading too. Tips included in menu price.
tim hortins quality breakfast sandwiches for $16.
Delightful
one of the places where the tip is included in the price, the service is perfect, we are very well advised, the price is a little higher than those on avenue mont royal!
Had brunch at Larry s with my wife, son, and his partner. Food was fantastic - shrimp on toast was excellent, as was the pork chop, the cucumber, and the fries! No reservations, so pick a quiet time or stand in line. We sat at the bar and were seated immediately around noon on a Tuesday.
We had the special catch of the day arctic char, whole fish. Grilled to perfection, moist. And the service was amazing. Tip included in price which is a concept all talk about but here properly implemented. I really appreciated that the waitresses were not invasive, would not interrupt us to check if we are happy but you can see them stand around and take a good look at the group, eye contact to confirm all good. Thats how we would like the future of restauration be like.
Im giving a 5* because I cant give a 4.5* but they dont deserve a 4* according to my experience. First this place does something every restaurant should do: the tip is included in the price. (Expect prices to be inflated compared to other places and the vine prices bite a little). I go to a restaurant for the food, not to be faked treated like a king, a good service is expected and I dont want to have to think about how much waiters deserve to be paid, they should make a decent salary no matter my food experience or mood. As long as they bring me the food and are polite, the job is done. And guess what, they delivered a great service and the food was delicious! I loved that we could take several small dishes and share. The portions were just right and the mains/sides tasted fantastic. The place is also nice , its not too big, feels intimate yet we were not squished. There is a nice bar, big windows. its a nice cozy place. I had however 2 downsides: 1) I was a bit disappointed with the dessert (strawberry trifle) it tasted a bit chemical and was not at the level of the rest of the food I had, not bad but Im sure they can do better. It just tasted like something generic I could have on a Disney cruise. 2) the vines are good but quite expensive, having a bottle makes the final price a bit too expensive, would be appreciated if they offered more options that dont require us to have to sell our kidneys to come here again. Despite that, Im still rating them a solid 4.5* meaning 5* Now imagine if they also include all the taxes, that would be the dream ! Also since the tip is included I hope the salary of the waiters are adapted accordingly.
I like that this place is tip free. The price is ok. The food tastes great. The service is hit and miss. I went on Easter day and the cam waiter was so sassy. I didnt feel welcome this time so Im taking star off. Food
Amazing spot. Delicious coffee. Very chill atmosphere and friendly operators. (Thanks for holding onto my sunglasses for me when I forgot them on the table!!)
Best scrambled eggs I ve ever had. They are a must try. The mini pancakes (Pikelets) and scone with clotted cream and jam also never disappoint.
Very good food, lively, really pleasant,
I dined at here recently and had a mixed experience. The food was fantastic, but service fell short. The tip being included was limiting, and the server forgot to bring extra bread for the steak tartare. Furthermore, the servers attire was unprofessional, revealing a crop top and visible pubic hair. Improvements in service are needed despite the delicious food. Vegetarian options: Loved the cucumber salad
We had been very much looking forward to trying out Larry s after reading the many positive reviews. We got the hamburger and pulled pork. They were good but not amazing. The service was the biggest turn-off, extremely inattentive if not somewhat superficial. When I asked our server for a glass of wine, we thought we would get it within 5, maybe 10 minutes. Well she never came back as she went off to do some wine tasting with another colleague and forgot about us. We found at the other end of the bar. We had to ask another server to help and she even had a very blasé attitude about helping us. The check took forever to get as well as payment. We left Larry s with the feeling of never wanting to come back. The management and staff made you feel that customers were more a bother. The place has a laid back somewhat trendy vibe but with the I am too busy or feeling that I have other things to do than serve customers. There are way better places with good and genuinely friendly service to dine in Montreal than Larry s. Better food as well.
one of my favorite places in the city . The mackerel spaghetti is heaven in a bowl. I also had a broccoli anchovy special that was superb perfectly seared broccoli, tangy rich sauce. The staff is chill, friendly, and can give a great wine rec
Ate here twice in 2 days during my visit. Id highly recommend to anyone visiting Mile End. Also, get the scone!!
One of my alltime favorites.
Great place, good food & drinks. Bravo for the no-tipping policy
I came here once before today and was a lil unimpressed. Today we visited again and the food was just fine, we enjoyed our sandwiches, we got the veggie cheeseburger and the pulled pork sandwich. I didnt like the slaw but other than that was good. The veggie burger was good even though it fell apart. The portions were very small and waaaaayyy too expensive. $20 for a small sandwich with nothing else is kinda crazy. Staff were very kind, helpful and attentive. This place is just ok! Shoutout to the staff, but the menu aint it. Respect to owners for no tip policy too
Place with a lot of competition and excellent food
the food portions are very little. average service and would recommend the tartare
I love this place - it s my go-to. It s a simple, comforting spot. Just like nearby Butterblume.
Great experience with terrific menu options. Beef tartare, fries, ceviche, and roasted cauliflower were all terrific. Very cute space.
Rare beef w/ chimichurri was absolutely divine! Service was great imo, staff is nice and they didn t bother you too much (which I loved!!!, you don t see this often at reg: tip restaurants.) the environment was a bit chilly for me but overall I have been here a few times and will go again. I definitely recommend. Portion was also pretty generous imo.
Very disappointed. While the breakfast sandwich was good, it wasn t worth the price at all. The latte was delicious, by the way. Still, overall it was overrated; bobo.
I would give more stars if I could. The staff here is so welcoming and kind :)
Overrated and overpriced. Food has no flavour or refinement. I m confused by all the positive reviews. We spent almost $150 for 2 and left unhappy, hungry. -mimosa: flat and tasteless. made with apple juice not orange juice which they should probably mention -breakfast sandwich: just ok (borderline McDonald s) -salmon: too fishy -beef tartar: lacked flavour -oysters: meh -mushrooms: ok -feta/cucumber: lacking acidity/seasoning -service: included in price, so if service is bad nothing you can do (they were fast but not very friendly)
The atmosphere, decor, service and music make the brunch experience very pleasant. The menu has very friendly options that invite you to share a few dishes with your friend. We loved the fries, the veggie breakfast sandwich and the scone with fresh, light cream. The cellars were sweet, in short I liked everything. It s interesting to be able to build a plate with the sides you want (egg, mini pancakes, cheese, mushrooms, etc.). I can t wait to taste the rest! Vegetarian options: Vegetarian sandwich, grilled cheese, custom plate, yogurt and fruit, pancakes, scones etc.
Havent been to Larrys in a long time, since they were still downstairs at least. New menu is much less interesting and very run of the mill Wine was a highlight but staff arent very knowledgeable, and once the bottle was left on the table our water and wine glasses were totally ignored by the team for our entire visit. We ordered a few small plates to share, which for the most part were tasty if not a little boring. Long story below; tldr Very dissapointed this used to be one of my favorite spots in Montreal and I wont be coming back again We ordered the beef tartare, which came out bland and lacked care in preparation. We then attempted to speak to a server, all of whom seemed shocked that at 6pm on Saturday the restaurant would have most of its tables full.(not even a full house) We werent able to even ask for salt for 25/30 minutes, at which point the tartare was warm and not very desirable as it was. We finally spoke to someone who did not inquire if we wanted anything else to drink even though our wine was done by the time and once we asked for salt they just left the table before we could ask ourselves. They then promptly forgot to bring the salt, we waited another 10-15 minutes before asking someone else. We were then brought a salt shaker full of sugar! Eager to finally eat the tartare we put some of what we thought was salt on the dish and quickly learned it was not what we wanted. The dish was taken away and by that time we didnt want to wait any longer so we didnt take the offer of something else to replace it. The bill was brought promptly, however the tartare wasnt even taken off. While the service was friendly before a few more tables sat down (less than 20 guests for 4 foh staff) the apparent disorganization and lack of training or confidence was very frustrating. Saturday nights in the summer do get busy but the atmosphere from the service was very frantic and cold.
Absolutely flavourful food!
You would think that anchovies and spaghetti would be delicious but this place made it work! The pancakes and eggs and pork sausage were cooked to perfection. Service was amazing and everybody was just so pleasant.
We really enjoy coming here when we visit Montreal. The staff are friendly, the food is delicious. We ordered a la carte breakfasts - the scrambled eggs were so creamy and warm, and the lattes were too. Delicious sausage and pancakes too!
we came here for taking rest because tired from walking and thirsty. we got some homemade tea (citrus flavor), ceviche and bread( she said made from next door ) it was what i was looking for! Its a kind of wine restraint and the light meal is also very nice!
It s exactly what anyone should want out of a wine / dining experience. Simple, done well, with attentive staff
Great food, great service and unpretentious. No reservations and tips already included in price. WYSIWYG. Wish more places in Montreal were like this.
In Quebec there are laws tipping must not be included in the price of a bill, I will never encourage a business that does not respect this
Certainly the best breakfast sandwich you can find in Mile End, without forgetting the kindness of the employees. Hanna, our waitress, was particularly friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I recommend everyone to go there for brunch.
The sausage breakfast sandwich made me feel like I could love again
Fabulous burger
Its complex, neighbourhood place for locals that feels at home for everyone visiting from out of town...Its simple, sausages, eggs, oysters and cocktails anytime of time of day. thank you. Me and Lou love this place. Food
I like their food a lot. Very consistent Love the ceviche, fennel sausage, and fiddleheads Staff is really kind and I like the inclusive tipping concept Also super easy going, have seen families in here with small kids, it s like a little elevated community restaurant. They really make it feel homey.
This place is worth every penny. Love supporting a restaurant that pays its employees a good wage by including service in the price of all the dishes. We had amazing service and spent a cozy Saturday afternoon devouring a breakfast sandwich, pancakes and a side of fries with some americanos. I cannot recommend everything we tried enough - I drink black coffee and this was some of the best I ve had in Montreal in terms of it not being overly bitter. The fries were the grand slam item for me - definitely in the top 3 fries I ve ever tried and HIGHLY recommend. As for atmosphere, super cosy and a big thanks to whenever curated all the Feist playing. Will absolutely be back.
Highly recommend Incredible food. Top tier staff and fab atmosphere. A must go to for brunch. The scrambled eggs are great! Food
Stopped in for a drink while walking the neighborhood. Super cute corner bar. Lots of light and even more wine.
Delicious hamburger and other food. Very small place. Glad we were able to get in.
Lawrences Friday prix fixe lunch is a delight and a bargain. There was a good mix of seasonal dishes to choose from. Portions are small but exquisite and theres plenty of fresh bread to soak up all those broths/sauces. One small quibble is the absence of breadplates . Parking: Take public transport if you can. Parking in Mile End is a nightmare
How do you feel when a high price/high quality restaurant don t even show you a tip option in your payment? I believe they care a lot. I love this place, even there is a few vegetarian options in their menu.
Food is top-notch and service is impeccable - the best thing of all, which all other restaurants in NA should learn, is that no-tipping model. Services are already all-included. I was in Montreal for 3 nights and this was the highlight of my trip.
Atmosphere, service, 5-star quality products. But its expensive. You pay for the location; $9.50 for a small chai latte
Delicious food. Love that they have variety on their menu of small plates (we had brunch) to allow you to build your own meal. Although we had to wait a while to get in and then to be served, it was well worth the wait. Friendly, responsive employees and a nice space inside make this a great option for a meal. Enjoy! Ps. Try the Brussels sprouts!
I really liked the quality of the products cooked and the atmosphere of the establishment. I also recommend it for families.
I was so confused when I heard no tip option in the payment, might be the very few one as far as I can remember? The server was very friendly and sweet, food was great, nice location, I would come again.
We loved our evening. THANKS!
Very (too) long waiting time compared to the announced. Fairly basic food, but expensive. You can find better, better quality and cheaper in the area.
12/10
Lovely ceviche The service is great. One of my favorite places in Mtl Food
Nice place, good vibes. Food was good, but a little overpriced. Service was excellent
Excellent place for brunch. The perfect English breakfast. Its nice that we can assemble our plate to our liking. The pikelets were delicious. Very good service. Nice atmosphere. I would return without hesitation.
This is the first place I want to go on my days off. They ve got the loveliest staff, the biggest windows, the funkiest ciders, and imo the best afternoon ham sandwich in town. Truly every day here is a gift, and I am so grateful to hve it in my neighbourhood. Kid-friendliness: I always see children here enjoying brunch with their families! There are a lot of smaller and simpler things on the menu that would appeal to children.
Food is good, and no tips is nice, portions just a little small in my opinion
Vibe is very good in there. Staff is extremely pleasant ant nice. Anything is good really. Must have : a scone (so so flaky and buttery!) with a long espresso. Their coffee is REALLY my favorite in Montreal. And their breads, pastries.. Etc are all homemade. Enjoy! Vegetarian options: The vegetarian breakfast sandwich is delish!
Exceptional evening meal. Ceviche - 5/5 Brussel sprouts dish - 5/5 Cauliflower dish - 5/5 Steak tartare 3/5 Service - 5/5 Overall - 5/5 The best meal we had in Montreal.
