Globally influenced French fare & clever brunch dishes in an open kitchen with a quirky bar setup.
Wow, what a great little place. Impeccable food service and atmosphere, I'm looking forward to trying the rest of the menu.
Went last Friday and wished I remembered the name of the server our group of 4 had. Anyways, he was very attentive, personable and made our experience wonderful. Every item on the pre-made menu was delicious. Had a great time, even if the neighborhood lost power for 30-45 minutes!
One of the most spectacular meals I’ve ever had. The vibes of this restaurant are amazing. Our service was outstanding and every bite of food was incredible. Every bite felt like one of the best bites ever and we’ve been talking about it for two months since we’ve been. Would definitely recommend the chef’s tasting menu because it was outstanding. We can’t wait to be back in Montreal to come back to this spot!
Strap in folks. As we enter Q4 of 2024, look no further for indication the world has reached an absurd tipping point than the Smoking Dog. Here: a Montreal restaurant is charging $25 for a single scallop, and $25 for a single shrimp, and calling them each appetizers. If you have worked in this business, you know a sophisticated operation's tricks to maximize revenue per table with limited floor space. Here: none of the wine on the menu have price listed by the glass. The server hovered over our table, interrupting our conversation every 2-3 minutes. We didn't even finish the third appetizer. If it had been delicious, we would have - because we certainly weren't full. All-in, taxes and a 15% tip came to $220. We had three 5oz glasses of wine and three "appetizers". This place left me feeling naive and stupid for coming in - and hungry, but too sick to my stomach to want another bite.
I can call Le Chien Fumant my favorite restaurant in Montréal. The food is amazing and the flavours makes want to come back for more. The Quebec Lamb is my favorite dish and usually the daily specials are a great pick. The cheese selection and oysters are excellent of course with the great wine selection that they have completes the experience. You must always keep space for dessert. Top notch service from the owners to everyone works there Highly recommended for a date night, can't wait to be back!
From appetizers to main courses and even to desserts are very high quality, the restaurant can be encore!
The food is delicious, well presented, and original. The chef tasting menu is totally worth it and can be tailored to your needs (ex. no meat). The service is excellent! A great place for sharing a meal in good company.
It is a nice cozy restaurant in a quiet street. The service and food was good, but the waiter told us we have to order one meal from the main dishes menu per person. It was a bit strange because some of the appetizers were more expensive than the main dishes and we were not that hungry to order the main dish and appetizer. Finally, we went with one appetizer and one main dish with a weird look from the waiter. Honestly, I found it odd! For the desserd menu, it would be nice to add some fruity light options to the menu. The choices were limited and I found the cheese mousse a bit heavy, althought it was delicious.
Fantastic gem, courteous and attentive staff. Great date spot or if youre dining alone for a great experience.
The food and service were wonderful. Only problem: the servers considered it fair to let a customer smoke a cigar in the room even though I expressed that I was not comfortable with this. I will not repeat the experience. A star...
Restaurant with a unique proposition in Montreal, top-level ingredients brilliantly mastered. Incredible wine selection, exceptional vintages! Perfect cocktails and attentive service in a relaxed atmosphere where its good to let yourself go! I highly recommend!
Exceptional culinary experience I had the immense pleasure of discovering this restaurant and I am simply delighted. As soon as you enter, the calm and cozy atmosphere transports you into a soothing setting, ideal for enjoying an exceptional meal. The service is impeccable, attentive and warm without being intrusive, which contributes to a most pleasant experience. In terms of cuisine, it was a real treat. The razor clams, delicately arranged with caviar, were a pure delight. The sea bass, perfectly cooked and flavorful, literally melted in your mouth. And what about the braised dish accompanied by melting sauerkraut... A comforting dish rich in flavors that completely won me over. I highly recommend this establishment to all lovers of fine gastronomy. An address not to be missed!
Probably one of the best restaurants I have tried in Montreal, a taste experience with excellent products! The server was adorable, with a touch of humor that made the experience even more pleasant. Excellent evening, I loved every dish on the discovery menu. I recommend!
A true delight
Lovely place, the food is mind blowing especially if you pay for the high baller option.
It was an incredible evening, the food was absolutely delicious, the staff was attentive and charming. They didnt miss a single beat all night long!
It s truly the best restaurant in Montreal! The chef is creative and every dish is amazing The service was very professional the atmosphere is calm and romantic We will come back for sure
Very good!!
Excellent ! We ate at Le Chien Fumant on the evening of August 10. A memorable 3-course experience guided by the chef and our attentive waiter. I like good restaurants and I have visited several in Montreal and elsewhere. But its been a long time since I ate this well. My taste buds are asking for more. THANKS ! I will come back
Very nice experience
I cant say enough how wonderful our experience was! The food was amazing - the beef tartare especially so, and the chocolate cake was one of the best desserts Ive ever had at a restaurant. Our server Benjamin was super lovely, and the cigar menu was a delightful surprise. I cannot wait to go back and do a chefs tasting menu.
Everything here is wonderful, and the owners will make you feel at home! I have been going to this restaurant for 16 years and always have an amazing time.
Quaint little bistro, delicious food, great vibes
This restaurant was expensive, but it was one of the rare places I ve eaten at that was expensive for a reason! My boyfriend and I had a couple of appetizers and drinks, just as a pre-dinner treat, and it was absolutely amazing. The servers were great, accommodated us even though we showed up without a reservation, and the food was perfect. Will be going again at some point.
Every bite was a party in my mouth !
Superb experience, top cuisine, very pleasant staff, to do and recommend. If possible reserve a place at the bar: for the atmosphere and the view of the kitchens
Great food, you have to love the concept! Service? The first thing we offer you is not an aperitif but to determine your budget per person without too much explanation, a carte blanche to the chef so... Atmosphere? No. It doesnt work. We can barely talk and hear each other at a mini-table sitting on equally uncomfortable chairs! Value for money total experience: very disappointing. Parking: Too much noise, too pretentious... Kid-friendliness: NO! Wheelchair accessibility: NO
A unique experience with extraordinary dishes. I recommend
Simply wow! We were invited to this restaurant for my partners 60th birthday. Impeccable service (thank you Benjamin ), food more than perfect from start to finish! Only positive! An extraordinary culinary experience. Once again wow!
Wow! Let go and tasting menu super good Montreal restaurant
Excellent place, the value for money is perfect, we had a great time! Top team, special mention to Benjamin who took care of us this evening
Amazing food and great service. Flexible chef tasting where you set your own budget. Recommend strongly.
Everything was delicious! Honorable mention to the personalized cheese plate, with large portions.
Come here for brunch. You wont be disappointed.
Even after 3 years since my first visit and this place surprises me. What I like most is the quality of the dishes and the impeccable service. I super recommend
A restaurant to discover Great discoveries Excellent service Excellent tasting menu
Let yourself be transported into the world of smoking dogs with your eyes closed! Original formula, but which allows you to make discoveries and live a gastronomic experience! To do again as soon as possible!!
Very expensive for the content...
The tasting menu is fabulous!
Very good cuisine. And despite the crowds, the waiter was nice to put us at the table to enjoy. THANKS
A prestigious restaurant, Le Chien Fumant did not disappoint and there is a reason it is so popular. The menu is neither small nor extensive, nor focused on a particular type of food so you can find meat, fish or vegetarian...though different types of meats are clearly a specialty (the menu offered duck, veal, beef and even rabbit). The portions (as long as you are not a big eater) are fair and a small (app) and big (main) per person should be more than enough to satisfy you. We ordered fresh brioche bread (tasty), the wagyu onigiri (excellent although a little on the fatty side...but I guess that is the point) which is seared in front of you (wonderful presentation), seared scallops (very tasty), and finally the striped bass (also excellent). For dessert we had the pavolva (good). Service was subtle and on point providing insight and recommendations as needed (which is helpful with such a menu). The ambiance is warm with lots of windows line one side, of the restaurant, the bar and kitchen opposite and a thin line of tables sandwich between the two. This is not a big place so reservations are essential. Enjoy! Parking: This area of the plateau is always a struggle to find parking. De Lanaudiere street parking is almost exclusively for residents at dinner time so you would probably have better luck parking on Mont-Royal Ave (one block south) and then walking up.
Good experience, but for the price, I would have expected better.
Excellent dinner, very diverse menu, varied flavors, everything was perfect! An experience to repeat! Thank you for the wonderful service!
Yesterday I had the privilege of seeing teamwork where people care about their professions, an example to follow, thank you for this experience, each visit is a unique moment, I recommend this corner of paradise!
Perfect every time. well done,
Great food and great service. We lucky the evening was quiet - perhaps road works outside kept others way. We let the chef be creative with our menu - five courses later (and a couple of take away boxes) we had a satisfied set of clients. Wagyu sandwiches are a treat :)
Genuinely one of the best meals Ive ever had. The truffle gnocchi and veal chop are excellent.
If you are in Montreal this is a MUST stop. The food from the first plate until the last lick is amazing. 10/10
I ve been a fan of le Chien Fumant for a decade but have not been since covid. Decided to go back for their signature Korean Beef Tartare. This place is one of a kind in its food, atmosphere, and staff. From the attentive service when you walk in, to the true kindness and professionalism of the chien fumant team, to the down to earth atmosphere, everything was perfect. The food is a beautiful reflection of the brand, elevated with a chien fumant twist, local, quality ingredients, uniquely seasoned and prepared plates, and most importantly, every bite was a burst of flavour to be savoured. There was not a single dish that we were not blown away by. You re paying for an experience; Le Chien Fumant will offer you that and more. Please note that the tasting menu will be required for groups over two people versus à la carte dining. Highly recommend this Montreal Gem.
As always this restaurant is equal to itself, simply divine, welcome, exceptional service from Nick and Maksim (the owners) and impeccable food Truly the best kept secret in town! Keep the good work guys!
Always a delight! So nice to sit at the bar and watch the cooks prepare your meal. A very nice table to try for Montreal foodies
Me and the lads went for their tasting menu. We were served by the guy that looks like that cop from Stranger Things. Funny bloke. This was hands down one of the best meals Ive ever had in my entire life, and Ive been to my fair share of restaurants. Everything from the beginning to the end was amazing. I almost cried when it came to the truffle gnocchis. Our minds were indeed blown.
Great service! Great dining experience
A total gem! Been twice and loved it.
Exquisite food, everything was perfect. Relaxed atmosphere and great cuisine! Varied and interesting wine list. Well done to the whole team. Remarkable across the board.
Thanks to chef Maksim and his Le Chien Fumant team. I had one of the best meals of my life!!! Ambience, food service A+++
The food was almost entirely imported luxury meat with sauces and garnishes based on American fast food - Doritos, taco cheese, etc. Not a vegetable in sight that wasnt drenched in cheese sauce. And the waiter was overtly disdainful. Im fine with food service workers taking pride in their work and holding standards and boundaries, but it was ironic to be served mediocre imported food in the style of the US while simultaneously being ridiculed for speaking like Americans.
Had an amazing dinner here in a party of 6. Its a small intimate setting. The drinks are amazing, I had perhaps the best espresso martini Ive ever had at this establishment. Food was fantastic, we went for about $200 a person (not including wine pairing) and it was so much food, we legitimately could not finish. Wine pairing was perfect, I highly recommend.
We tried this restaurant yesterday for the first time, and I was not disappointed. The tasting menu was to die for, generous portions, sought-after flavor profiles, quality ingredients, and more than attentive service. A big thank you to our server Gabriel for the great experience, we will be back :)
Amazing restaurant with outstanding food. Highly recommend having the tasting menu which is fully tailored to the wants of the group.
In my Top 5 in Montreal. I had two small starters and the delicious beef steak and oyster. The delicious Quebec ammalade cocktail. I appreciated the subdued atmosphere and the chef s recommendations.
This is THE best restaurant in town. I have probably been there about 50 times since it has opened if I recall about 12 years ago. It has never disappointed and it has just gotten better, even if that seemed impossible at times, it is that good. The Chef is an absolute raw talent, and is nothing less than an artist, creating dishes with a fusion of flavors, leaving you speechless at every bite. Execution is as perfect as the dishes are original. Having gone there many times over the years, I have tasted almost everything, but they still surprise me with new creations each time. One of their classics is the Korean Tartar, which I can easily say is the best tartar I ever had. Their tasting menu is absolutely insane, and you can trust the Chef to give you a nice variety of dishes and flavors that will make it a night to remember. But what makes it really an exceptional experience all around, is the combination of a talented and creative Chef in Maksim Morin, along with a beautiful location, a warm ambiance playing classic hip-hop from the 90s, and last but not least, one of the best waiters I have ever had in Ben. This man knows how to take care of his guests, treat them like royalty, in a simple, yet friendly and elegant way. This place feels like home, and the only downside is not yet knowing when will be the next time I will visit them. Sincerely, you biggest fan... Alain
A hidden Gem! Will return!
Each visit to Le Chien Fumant is a memorable experience. The welcome is always warm and the attention to detail is incomparable. The generosity of the staff and the quality of the dishes bring us back again and again. A must-see in Montreal for all epicureans!
Very good restaurant I recommend this place
Superb restaurant. Not to be missed during your visit to Montreal. Superb food and great staff. I will keep unforgettable memories of it. Word of Toto.
Amazing experience! Food delicious and our host Gabriel was so fun and entertaining! Highly recommended!
Disappointed in the quantity for the price, too bad the products cost more, it appears on our plates, still one of my favorite restaurants
Below average for those kinds of prices. Its good, nothings bad, some items look like theyre on the menu just to bump prices (gold leaves...), some combinations look like theyre here just to try to give a twist, yet nothing stood out. A week later Im struggling to remember exactly what I had. Even on the menu some price gaps dont make sense. Why is a plain duck magret with potatoes 25$ more than a hanger steak? Apparently waiters are told to open new bottles without telling you when you run out. The target audience is people that want to impress by spending way too much on food popularly classified as luxury, but cant cook themselves. If money is no object to you, its decent, though it wouldnt be my first choice.
A Montreal Must-See and a Plateau staple. The food is always interesting and fantastic. The cocktails are simple, but they nail the classics. Staff is extremely professional, but friendly, charming, and attentive. A great spot for a cozy date night, or groups that want a robust tasting menu. Cannot wait to go back!
My partner and I got the tasting menu at $100 each. The food was tasty overall although nothing blew us away, and we found the parisa tartare and tuna balls in tomato sauce lacklustre. We personally felt that the ingredients, presentation, and creativity fell somewhat short of the cost. The chocolate dessert was the standout dish for us, and the service was very attentive and professional.
The perfect dining experience. Service was friendly and attentive. The dishes were inventive and flavorful. You can feel the care and artistry of the chefs team. Highly recommend!
The $125 tasting menu was decadent!
TLDR: We got charged 120$ even though we couldnt come because we were sick and didnt get warned when we called to cancel. We booked a reservation at this restaurant we were very eager to try with my girlfriend. Unfortunately she got quite sick on the day before, so I called to warn them we wouldnt be able to come. The person on the phone took notice and thats it. No particular communication about a cancellation fee being applied. Then I received a statement from Stripe explaining we got charged 120$ by the restaurant. To be totally fair, the reminder email they send does mention that they reserve the right to charge 120$ in case of no-show or late cancellation. But the fact that it was our first time booking there, that we had to cancel because of a situation outside of our control, and got charged without being warned by phone when we called to cancel is in my opinion very unfair. Id say if you want to go there, book for the same day but dont book in advance. On our end, Im not sure well take the chance to book again if thats the risk.
Very disappointed with the evolution of the restaurant over the years. Menu imposed on the blind at $150/person, without wine or desserts. When choosing the wine, there is no way of knowing which dishes were planned. The last dishes have not been announced. some dishes pleasantly surprised us, however the price of the evening in no way reflects the culinary adventure we were hoping for. A little feeling of having been cheated
Great restaurant, excellent tasting menu. The scallop was really good.
Fantastic discovery! Subdued and intimate atmosphere, friendly owners, VIP treatment, exceptional dishes, perfect wine pairing, experience to live and relive, new favorite!
Great service with outstanding hosts. The food is excellent and the portions are perfect. By far one of my favorite restaurants. If you dont know, come and experience it.
Good dog taste
WOLLAH ITS HEAVY THE DOG IS VERY JUICY AND THE BALLS ARE EVEN BETTER. ALLAH AKBAR
Evening and menu to share at 250/person the experience: nothing but happiness and quality. Thanks to all the equipment for this unforgettable evening.
4.5 in fact. Excellent service and delicious meal. A little too expensive would be my only criticism.
Definitely the best restaurant I have eaten in! Exceptional products prepared to perfection. A delight from A to Z, great service, thank you for the wow experience!!
Definitively one of the best restaurant in MTL. We went all out ordering the lobster and the waygyu to do a surf and turf like our waiter recommended and we were more then just amaze. The ambiance and the service was A1. Would recommend to anyone one that wants to eat a top notch quality meal. Thx to all the staff that were so welcoming. Will come back for sure.
If I could give it a hundred stars, I would. Expensive, but worth it for a special occasion. We shared 6 dishes (4 apps, 1 main, 1 dessert) between two people, and not a single weak dish was served. Every bite was better than the last. I almost dont want to review the place, because I feel like it should be kept a secret, but honestly they deserve the praise. Great service too!
One of the best dining experiences in town!
Wow! What a beautiful place and especially the freshness and quality of the food! A great discovery!
Came here as a recommendation from a couple of friends. We are very glad we did. Had a reservation at 6:30 when we got there our table was ready. The waiter was very kind to us. We ordered the Menu where you set a price point and the chef will bring you a set of dishes. It was amazing. Highlights of the menu: -Australian black truffle gnocchis - Lamb chops -Sirloin bifteck - Hazelnut Dessert They also have a great wine list Id recommend to anyone. The ambiance is calm and romantic without being too fancy or loud perfect for a date night. I would definitely come back
Okay this place is amazing. Seasonal menus. Outstanding dishes. Great drinks menu.
Best restaurant in Montreal.
Love the food. Drinks are insanely good. Staff is nice and knowledgeable. 100% recommended. A bit on the expensive side but you know where your money is going, you can see and taste it!
The best food in the world....but dogs are not allowed.
10/10
We went for dinner this evening. When I asked the server what he recommended for my gluten-friendly needs, he couldnt offer any suggestions, and even appeared a bit confused by the question. When he came back, I asked him if the gnocchi was made with just potato flour or if it had wheat flour. This question also caused some confusing answers. He then became quite rude, and literally punched at my menu, moving it with each finger punch as he gestured at and read aloud each item on the menu that might be GF suitable. It was really really uncomfortable for my son and I. I have never been treated this way when asking for menu accommodation choices, whether in casual diners or in pricey places (most places are incredibly kind about this). We got up to leave. At the door, my son explained, very softly and politely, to the server that we felt the energy was uncomfortable and that he didnt like the way I was spoken to. Instead of apologizing, the guy just flung open the door. Certainly we will never go back, and I would never recommend this place to any diner who has special dietary needs.
Always delicious, thank you to the whole team.
Im taking the time to post a review because its deserved. A charming little restaurant. The service and the setting are warm, the menu is renewed regularly (I think every week), the menu and dishes are of high quality. One of the best restaurants in Montreal. I recommend 100%
Really excellent and top service. The tasting menu at $100/person was really really good.
I still have trouble explaining how a plate of lobster sold for $120 could have been served to me with only tongs. And a restaurant employee who explains to me that the chef probably shredded it and added it to the sauce! :(If this is the case, I suggest you change chef!) I give 3 stars because the atmosphere is always pleasant and because our server was nice. But I wont go back. I just saw your response...The kitchen brought us a pair of tongs after we expressed our surprise at seeing only one on the plate, but oh well. I dont understand your allusion to the empty pliers; isnt your lobster dish usually served whole in its shell?
Best meal you ll find in Montreal, don t be intimidated by the prices, cause it s worth every penny.
Delicious classic French food with friendly servers. Would highly recommend for date night.
Such a great discovery. I would say in my too 5 restaurant in Montreal. Great service and great food. Yes on the more expensive side but at the same time really worth it. Very happy and I will be back for sure
From A to Z served like Kings!
As always and forever, my favorite restaurant! I introduced it to my boyfriend yesterday for his birthday, I asked for special attention so that he would have a beautiful souvenir! We had the tasting menu, presented by the chef himself at our table, very attentive service and delectable food Thank you again for this beautiful evening!!! See you soon !
Go there with your eyes closed!! Everything is perfect! The dishes are tasty, delicate and refined! The quality of the products used is indisputable. The decor is warm, as well as the atmosphere which can lend itself to a dinner with friends or a tête-à-tête. The team is at the top. From the waiters to the chef (who regularly visits the room and happily chats with his customers), the staff is adorable and very professional. (I hadnt been back since the pandemic, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that the team had hardly changed. Another proof of quality in my eyes!). In short, all this to say that Le Chien Fummant is a sure value, and that the value for money meets expectations, for gourmets of course! Thanks again to the whole team for this delicious meal, I m still salivating!
Really excellent, everything was impeccable
Korean beef tartar (Kimchi, puffed rice, green onions, crispy shallots & soy, pickled cucumbers), Boneless quail (Marsala & cremini), Hanger steak (Chipotle béarnaise & deluxe iceberg tacos) with a glass of Max Rouquette 2018 (AOP Languedoc - Saint Saturnin)
The worst restaurant experience Ive had in Montreal. I am writing this note almost two months later. This is how long it took me to digest this evening and reflect on it more serenely. October 6, reservation for 3 people at the tasting menu (from $125 per person at a table reserved for the evening, not including aperitifs and drinks of course) for my parents departure from Montreal. We had a lot to celebrate and talk about. I thought I had chosen a good restaurant here, good, original and warm. Having gone to this restaurant a few years ago, I was very happy to know that it still existed and I did not hesitate for a minute to make the reservation, for a full evening at a table (you have the choice between bar or table and the price varies) for my parents last evening. I could describe the various elements which made this evening a stressful and very, very unpleasant evening... But I will summarize this evening in 3 elements because I have already lost too much time on the evening of October 6: -Lousy service and waiter. I dont know if it was bad luck but we had a waiter who from the start was impatient, answering our questions as if we hadnt done our duty to know what the tasting menu was; rushed us to finish our aperitif; pressed us to choose the wine we were going to drink; had an almost pedantic sense of humor and made insistent physical gestures. Ex: pushing the glass of wine in front of my father twice so that he quickly chooses the bottle of our choice; Asking him several times if he had made his choice even though my father had mentioned to him that he was going to finish his aperitif before choosing the wine (knowing that when drinking an aperitif with gin you have to wait a little before being able to drink and choose the wine for the next course); Having had the misfortune of asking him the same question a second time about a dish because the music was too loud and I had to repeat everything to my mother... I was answered in a tone impatient and sarcastic which made me feel almost like a child on the school bench when the teacher scolds you... Ah, sweet memory of France. -Music too loud. In my humble opinion, when we have a culinary experience that is intended to be out of the ordinary, we must be able to have all our senses available and directed in part towards our plate. (While I love music and I dont deprive myself of a little dance.). -Not enough light. I couldnt distinguish the lobster tail that I was eating from the purée of whatever accompanied it... In short... Terrible experience, not at all worthy of Montreal. I think that a restaurant should be able to choose excellent ingredients (as was the case), as well as competent and passionate staff and a warm atmosphere, conducive to discussion and tasting... the height of what we expect and what we have paid. This evening was terrible, I was hesitant to leave after the aperitif but I never thought the experience would get worse. 70% of the quality of a restaurant experience is the good time spent and the restaurant environment is what stands out the most. Good food can always be found, but a great experience is rare. This was truly the WORST dining experience in my 10+ years in Mtl.
Not worth the price we picked the tasting menu and let me just say the food was meh and the dessert was terrible.
A meal of rare excellence, the smoking dog integrates the most refined foodstuffs into complex but expertly executed recipes. The $ sign is incorrect however, it is indeed a $$$$ restaurant in my opinion. Every penny is worth it. Well done.
Its good. It s even very good! A beautiful bistro atmosphere in this small restaurant with a very nice menu! We let ourselves be guided by the establishment in choosing the tasting menu for dinner: put in $100 to $250 per guest and the chef will create a tailor-made formula for you (without dessert or wine) by drawing from the menu. plates to share. If the start of the score rather seduced us with a trio of cold starters (green asparagus from Quebec, salmon cooked at low temperature and signature Korean beef tartare), the rest is a mess. As we take the time to enjoy the tartare, the service gets carried away: plates of garnishes come to occupy the table and a waiter appears with a cart on which sits an enormous rib of beef which he begins to slice under our hands. eyes. The intention is beautiful, but the timing confusing. The waiters no longer know where to place the plates and we feel rushed to finish with the starters while the meat cools on our table. Why this rush? However, there is still room in the 2 hours of service allocated to us. Besides, what is this meat? In the confusion, no one presented us with the piece of beef, its origin, the sauce and its accompaniments. Added to this sudden and embarrassing cadence is a touch of disappointment. We opted for a tasting menu at the discretion of the chef, quite aptly initiated by the starters and we ended up with a steak and fries and steamed broccoli in quantity for 4 people... But what a shame! Not that the meat, without being extraordinary, lacked flavor, but the menu presented so many great promises to draw from. The waiter, very friendly, gave us an estimate of 2-3 starters and 2 main courses. For a tasting formula at $120/person and excluding dessert, we are both disappointed after having given generous carte blanche. Why not have drawn from tasting dishes, more oriented towards discovering the chef s talents? We would have preferred to discover more dishes, more original and less heavy. The beef ribs were paraded in the dining room that evening, perhaps it was a large delivery to be sold... In summary, a great promise but also disappointment despite the departure ticket. If there is a next time, it will be à la carte. Being the only one drinking this evening, I opted for wines by the glass. Very reasonable quality and price!
So good, I fell in love with the clams with the brioche bread Impeccable service
What a great experience. The service is extremely professional and courteous, the menu is divine and we love the open kitchen concept. A must on the Plateau!
Been coming here for 3 years absolutely the best restaurant Ive ever been too
Great location
Great welcome, a meal of breathtaking quality. Thank you for this beautiful moment, I cant wait to come back.
Best service I got post Covid. Our waiter Gabriel was outstanding. The food & service combination brought us to another level. This is now my favorite restaurant in MTL
Everything was delicious! Beautiful atmosphere and great service.
Just an amazing experience every time I visit. 12 years going strong. One of Montreals best restaurants.
Good restaurant, good dishes to share and nice to see the chef and his team working. Simply warn regulars that prices have increased and that in this price range other restaurants may stand out more. Also, the need to flip the tables is felt from arrival to departure, so I advise you to take the 2nd service of the evening to avoid this. Small calvados offered by the house at the end of the meal, much appreciated!
Very good food! However, the service left something to be desired, we were clearly in the mood to disturb (we arrived at 9:25 p.m. on a Saturday evening )
Everything was perfect!!! WoW
What a great experience. Superb welcome. Impeccable service. Thanks for the evening.
One of the best hidden gems in Montreal, amazing food and service. Presentation, quality, bar, everything was absolutely fantastic. Shoutout to Gabriel for great service. 5 stars all the way.
Excellent service, very good food. The tartare with kimchi is crazy. Good selection of wine, nice atmosphere.
We had a great meal at Le Chien Fumant. We started with the Korean beef tartare which was different in a good way! We then had the pork belly donair, Guanciale rigatoni and souvide strip loin. The beef was cooked perfectly and came atop cheesy broccoli. I would eat a whole meal of that broccoli.
After two visits, it s still just as good and the service is impeccable.
To start the service was great from the start of the meal to the end, it was spot on and didnt waiver. the food was okay but at the price range i was expecting a lot more. im not a penny pincher and with covid its totally normal to see prices higher then normal but the quality of food just wasnt there. this isnt to say the food wasnt good but it seemed to be gastro pub food hiding under a layer of expensive ingredients (Truffle, caviar, etc..). service was great, ambiance amazing, food okay, price way to much. all in all was a good experience but i dont see my self going back when there are so many other amazing restaurants in montreal
Lovely tiny restaurant. Warm atmosphere, excellent food and service. It is on the expensive side, but definitely worth it.
Extraordinary. We took the testing menu for 150 dollars. Unforgettable experience.
This restaurant is a culinary gem located on a random street corner in the plateau area. Their artistic and unique menus frequently change every couple of weeks into one divine dish after another. It s a small setting design space so the table seating is mostly 2-4 people per table that makes it an intimate dinning experience. They are really knowledgeable about pairing the right wine to your meal with their impressive imported wine selection. There was this one red wine that literally sucked the moisture out of my mouth it was so dry it was amazing lol. It s a must try restaurant you will be so happy!
Wow simply wow! Experience to live. It was our first time and not the last.
Everything was perfect, nothing to complain about!
Amazing service, food and atmosphere. Highly recommended for an upscale night out
Its special. Its a heavy kitchen. I didnt like it... the only thing I liked was the beef tartare (out of the 5 choices). The service is very good
We left because the welcome was not very cordial.
Super good restaurant. The plates are generous and beautiful, you dont leave there hungry. Very good service, fast, efficient and really friendly. The only downside would be the price, its still a little more expensive than other similar restaurants, but well probably go back anyway!
The best restaurant I have eaten at.
Rude and Just Okay The staff and management are rude and food is only ok. Very displeased.
My friend made a reservation for 4 people (plus a baby) on a random winter Tuesday night. Even on a weekday night, it was grooving with people so make sure to have a reservation! Our table was ready once we got there and it was very nice of them to accomodate us with our infant in her car seat. Unfortunately, its not a kid friendly restaurant. However, the service was impeccable and the food delicious. We had the 50$ tasting menu and there were good sized sharing plates for 4. Its a nice place to go with friends but not in large groups (4-6 is perfect) as its a very cozy restaurant. I would go back again for their tasting menu at a different price point. Its also located in a residential area so parking might be a challenge.
Very good service good food thank you for the drinks and dessert I recommend it
A very nice local restaurant. Waiter was very nice and professional. Made food explanation so well, Food was amazing. They have tasting menu, ranging from 20$-100$ per person. We did have a lot of food. was very full by the end.
The choice to do a tasting what amazing! Its a bit expensive but the food taste amazing and the service is constant and exceptional!
Great service and tasty food
Memorable evening! Let yourself be tempted by the tasting menu, you will be pleasantly surprised! Exceptional cuisine, in good quantity and pleasant server!
An incredible culinary experience and wines that are truly up to par! Special mention for the service ^^
Original meals and excellent wine list! The atmosphere is clearly one of the place s strongest assets!
Good food and good service but we found the waiter to be a bit pretentious and his pranks are not suitable for all types of customers. The wines are expensive. But overall, great experience.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is very pleasant. The food with Asian influence is very good, the pasta with bone marrow (beautiful piece) delicious!
Distancing between tables not respected: only 3 feet and the servers constantly remove their masks to speak to us at the table. We didnt feel safe. Beyond that, friendly service and dishes of sufficient quality with some very good dishes (halibut ) and others very subpar (melon starter with an unripe melon ).
Sublime
Great service!
Nourriture correcte. Pieuvre trop d ail, tartare de b uf trop d huile de sesame.
Stunning !
One of the best restaurants in the city!
had to cancel due to covid (someone I know tested positive) so called to cancel reservation but they still charged us 30$ a person for not showing up and theres nothing they can do. looks like ill never know if this is good restaurant. Dont understand how a they can do this in these times.
Wow, while I didnt eat here, my friend just told me they got charged 150$ for canceling. One of the guests got covid-19 positive test, and so out of precaution they decided to cancel. The person over the phone said it was policy to still charge that amount. Basically, dont reserve here if you think you might end up with covid :P
This is a place you have to go!!!
Delicious food, nice intimate setting
Amazing food and amazing service! It is our favourite restaurant in Montreal. I could eat here every day end never be tired of the food. The chef selection is the way to go. Love love love!
Amazing restaurant. Everything dish is a delight. Must try include korean tartar. Chinatown calmar. Wagyu beef. Roasted octopus. Veal shank. Just the best.
