A phenomenal ten course tasting menu, probably the best I've had, even having tried several in France. The chef and staff are wonderful, and the stories accompanying each dish delight as you enjoy the meal. The wine pairing is especially good, enhancing and otherwise revealing flavors. Tres Bien.
Came here on a Saturday night and glad I booked a month in advance because it was fully booked! as I walked in I was greeted with the staff’s big smile and the dimmed slights made everything so moody and perfect. We sat near at the bar with a good view of the kitchen so our experience was much better as I got to see how the chefs collaborated while I indulged in all the dishes. Owner and chef Antonin Mousso was super friendly and very passionate about bringing the produces from Montreal some creativity and uniqueness, I was awed by all his dishes packed with umami and so much flavor. we enjoyed half wine pairing and the sommelier was super knowledgeable and friendly. I loved my experience here every single customer seemed to be having such a wonderful time!
Le Mousso offers an exceptional dining experience. The ambiance is chic and stylish, creating a perfect setting for a special meal. The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and professional, making sure every detail was perfect. The food was truly outstanding—each dish felt like a work of art, both in presentation and flavor. Paired with an excellent wine selection, the entire evening was unforgettable. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a memorable culinary experience!
Excellent food and service. Genuinely one of the best meals I've had in the city.
We absolutely loved Le Mousso, such a beautiful cuisine with amazing quality products, and a lot of innovation with tastes and inspiration from all over the world. You cannot go wrong, the chef and staff are very nice and caring for every details. Last but not least, wine pairing was geniusly done! Nothing to envy to Paris where a lots of chefs excel at what they do!
Delicious food beautifully presented. Set menu by the chef that changes according to the season and local produce. The chef presents each dish as well, very entertaining. Amazing wine pairing! Great experience. On the very pricier side. $$$$
What an incredible experience. This chef supports local / maritime agriculture all while providing an exceptional work environment. He is grateful to his team and has created favorable work for conditions. I absolutely loved learning about each dish and its ingredients. It was absolutely worth the money.
2024 update: still a notch above any other restaurant in Montreal, clearly one of the best restaurants in the country. —————— Absolutely delightful! Likely the best restaurant in the city. The meal was delicious, cocktails were original and service was great. We were a large party, with several allergies and dietary restrictions and everyone enjoyed their meal. Highly recommended!
Experience to live in your life. Its all there.
I m far from being an expert, but my taste buds, my sense of smell and my eyes have been in ecstasy since our visit .. I m already looking forward to next time!!
Wow wow wow! 10/10, everything was sublime! To discover without hesitation.
A.MA.ZING. I dont think I can describe my experience from one single evening in a text but Ill do my best. So, first of all, attention to detail, A1 (if I could create a word for over perfect, I would to describe this place) The service is impeccable. The food is incredible and the ambiance is amazing! I went with my fiancee to celebrate our engagement and our anniversary. He is allergic to fish and they were so careful! The chef Antonin Mousseau explains to everyone what they are eating and they have two sommelier who explain every glass of wine/champagne accompanying each meal. You can see that the team culture is on point, everyone is extremely professional and you can feel they are very comfortable with eachother. We felt like we walked into someones home and were welcomed very warmly. Last thing Ill say is, I was NOT expecting to leave full, but holy guacamole my belly was about to explode with all the delicious food that was served. I wont tell you about the food cause youll just have to go to discover the surprises the whole team prepares for you !! OH AND ! Over 80% of the products they use are local. So, YAY !
Magic
By far the best gastronomy we have had in Montreal! The presentation with the chef who comes to explain each meal to us from the beginning to the end of the service and who comes to chat with us Seasonal, local, quality dishes, made with precision and blends of flavors that we have never tasted before. And finally, the entire kitchen team who comes to serve us the dishes they have cooked in a friendly and warm atmosphere. If there is a restaurant to try in Montreal, it s this one Thanks again to the whole team, it was incredible
For the steep price of $800, there are countless restaurants in Montreal to choose from. Horrible on all counts and would strongly dissuade clients from this restuarant unless they want to overpay for disappointment.
A memorable experience, both from a human and culinary point of view! This evening will remain engraved in our hearts. What a great place to celebrate a 50th birthday! Dietary restrictions: When booking we were asked if we had any dietary restrictions.
MR MOUSSEAU DURING THE PASSAGE TO RDI YOU MENTIONED THAT IT WAS NOT THE RESTAURANT OWNERS WHO PUT THE PERCENTAGES ON THE MACHINE FOR TIPS BUT THE INSTALLERS OF THE MACHINE. FALSE FALSE KNOW MRS MR THAT THEY ASK THE RESTAURANT OWNERS HOW THEY SELL THIS. BEFORE OR AFTER TAXES ON THE POWERS OF THE REAL THEFTS THOSE WHO DO THIS. YES YOU DON T I KNOW. KNOW THAT SPEAKING FOR OTHER RESTAURATORS BY LYING TO APPEAR GOOD TO THEM DOES NOT GIVE YOU THE RIGHT AND MAKES YOU LIKE VERY BAD TASTE
We loved this wonderful dining experience! Until next time!
An extraordinary experience and an absolutely fabulous alcohol-free pairing.
Amazing dining experience! An adventure with local products worked with great creativity. To try!
I cant give anything less than 5 stars for food and service. The foie gras amuse bouche was the best thing I tasted all year... until the morel course which was just wow. The chef explained to my Celiac partner the modifications made before each dish and we hugely appreciated that attention to detail. The price point is high but you see exactly how it translates to the ingrediants selected. Id prefer slightly higher salinity but it makes sense to keep it muted with these dishes. The only way to make the experience perfect would be to speed up service. We arrived at 6 for a 615 reservation and, had we stayed till the natural end of service, would have been sitting on bar stools for 4 hours. A long service is normal for tasting menus but 4 hours is really pushing most folks endurance. If they could pull it into 3 hours, it would be perfect. Wine pairings were AMAZING and actually very well priced. More (white) wines from Quebec would be interesting. The non alcoholic juice pairing was less successful. Some of them simulated strongly flavored alcohol containing cocktails and wine. My partner ordered the juices because she doesnt like those flavors. Overall, best meal of the year so far and this Montreal trip has already been full of bangers. Ive read a lot of the other reviews and they seem to be really taking into account the odd time when its not just 5 stars omg! That kind of responsiveness should be praised. Well be back!!!
Magnificent is the first word that comes to mind. The food is beyond excellent, the service A1. The evening went perfectly. I loved it, its definitely in the top 5 of the best addresses in Montreal. Well done to the whole Mousso team
I was a little late in giving my opinion due to lack of time and words to describe my experience, most likely. The menu therefore dates from April and may no longer be up to date. That being said, the overall experience is far from just the food served. I loved having access to the Chef who took the time to present each service to all the guests simultaneously. The kitchen brigade was also just as accessible and served each of the dishes themselves. I loved my experience from A to Z. I felt important despite the fairly relaxed atmosphere for a gourmet restaurant. Which I greatly appreciated. I highly recommend, of course, with a certain budget hehe. Dietary restrictions: Open to restrictions mentioned in advance.
Once again, a great culinary experience with a wonderful team Lots of reinvented local products Learn to discover food differently An exploratory aspect that sometimes takes us out of the zone of confidence A new menu requiring some adjustments Interesting and somewhat unusual pairings 2024-07-19 Another great menu Good consistency Local products new flavors
Absolutely gorgeous food and creativity. A lot of thoughts have been put into wine pairing to match the themes of each course.
This review is long overdue but my partner and I went here a couple years ago, this restaurant made a very lasting impression. Our night at this place is still something we talk about to this day. The service, ambiance, wine, and food were amazing! If you are a foodie, this is a must try place in Montreal. Dietary restrictions: Gluten Free (celiac)
Very nice discovery and great service A treat
Incredible experience on this Saturday June 8, our wedding anniversary. Everything is impeccable. Local products in all their freshness, harmony of flavors in the dishes (favorite for lobster, veal tartare, sea urchin pasta, desserts, etc...) well-made wine pairing, attentive and joyful service, Bravo to the friendly chef and his team. Special mention to the 2 very passionate sommeliers.
A magnificent moment of more than 3.5 hours spread over 11 dishes, all more interesting, tasty, complex, each one more beautiful than the other. By far our most beautiful culinary experience in the 6 years we have been in Quebec, changing the traditions of traditional European starred restaurants while keeping the main thing: what we have on the plate, presented by the chef himself. Well done! (PS: Change of menu every 3 months... just find the budget :))
Wow! Excellent food paired with various wines, each as good as the next. At first, were not sure if were going to go out and eat a Big Mac trio because of the portions, but no need! The flavors were a real delight in the mouth and a surprise with each new dish! Spring menu recommended! This was our first experience, we plan to try the menu every season. The only problem was that the music wasnt always representative of the place. Dietary restrictions: Listened to allergies, did not need to make a reminder and informed us of changes made as they happened
Super tasting menu and ambiance.
An evening for 4, in April. The restaurant was full and they were introducing their spring menu. We liked the more casual atmosphere than some other large restaurants of the same type, with a more relaxed dress code. The table service is impeccable and attentive. The cuisine is sophisticated and the presentation careful. The flavors were so pleasant in the mouth. But in this same price range, we did not have the evening experience that we found in other great restaurants. The least favorite part of the evening was the wine pairing. They feature private imports taken from small batches of little-known grape varieties. But for $125, no one at the table fell in love or wanted more. It is not for nothing that certain great wines are well recognized around the world, it is because they are very popular. Perhaps an alternation between small producers and reliable values would help the experience. The amount of food was adequate, if you are not a big eater. For the quantity of alcohol in the glasses, I used my breathalyzer 20 minutes after my departure and I was at 0.00! One last downside, the pace of the services is dictated for the entire room and it is not possible to slow down if your appetite requires it. In short, one more x on my list of great restaurants to discover but I wont go back.
You know its illegal to charge for a cancellation. This is against current law. Do you think you are above the law? Ayoye!
Succulent and carefully prepared dishes, but the menu contains too many dishes, and they are all very high in fat. A little more green vegetables would have been appreciated. The quantity of services makes it an experience where you feel a little rushed, without really having time to finish your drink between each service. In addition, the team started cleaning the kitchen, with brooms in hand, while we were still seated. And the bill (although known in advance) remains indecent for a single meal.
It was our first experience and we really enjoyed it. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is not stuffy. The decor is tasteful and minimalist. The dishes made by the atiste Gaïa are magnificent. The midcentury furniture is very tasteful. The presentation of the dishes is exceptional. The mix of flavors is bold (sometimes a little salty) but its successful. The portions are reasonable for a 12 course, we ate our fill. Prices are comparable to other fine dining restaurants. We also appreciated the pay equity between the service and kitchen employees who share the tips.
I had dietary restrictions and they made some really bold substitutions which is really appreciated! The butter is amazing! I absolutely loved my experience the food is extraordinary the service is impeccable. You are definitely having a good time
Great!
Montreals best higher end spot, but quite expensive... ive been 4 times and each time the dessert is on par with the worlds best
A simply incredible dining experience. The flavors, the textures, everything was delicious.
This special Montreal restaurants food, service and purpose speak for themselves, as do the multitude of 5-Star reviews. From start to finish my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed each uniquely conceived and layered dish, and the comfortable, charming and well choreographed presentation, all balanced beautifully by the gracious and mindful sommelier whose knowledge is encyclopedic and recommendations spot-on. So, here, a genuine thank you and job well done Chef and the entire Le Mousso team.
It was perfect. We went there in December. I have nothing to complain about, absolutely nothing.
One of the best culinary experiences I ve ever had so far. I ve been waiting to try this restaurant for about 2 years. 99% of the dishes were extremely amazing and well done. Also the wine pairing was pretty good. Every penny was worth the quality. If you re looking for incredible and outstanding food, this is the right place to go. 100% recommended!
As expensive as a Michelin star but without the wow effect, you should review your prices!
Superb experience. Fine cuisine, delicious and creatively presented. Lots of high quality ingredients: truffle, foie gras, caviar, quail, uni and o-toro were there. Very sought-after food and wine pairings at each service (although a little too much in the way of biodynamic wine for my taste - and hey... the treatment of namasake is almost immoral... this type of sake should be kept in the fridge! !!). Really festive atmosphere with the description of the services done in a theatrical way and simultaneously for the entire dining room. The service is provided by the kitchen, which makes the atmosphere friendly and unpretentious - something that can sometimes be lacking in this type of restaurant. The choice of music (hip-hop and east coast rap) and the decor were really to my taste. In the end, an unforgettable and very expensive experience (more than $1000 including tip & taxes for 2 people).
Horrible!
Review based on price food is at most ok
We went here for my birthday last year and it was excellent service and very unique food. Some of the courses were delicious, some ok, and some not our cup of tea. The flavors were very intense, some too heavy and earthy for our taste. Considering the price point, we decided we will not be returning.
Truly a unique experience. Foodwise I thought 90% of the dishes were excellent with really cool techniques and flavor combinations. Also loved that they used local ingredients I had never heard of. The presentation of the dish was very fun and insightful, though with the food and wine speeches I agree with the other reviewers that temperature was negatively affected. Regarding wines they use a pretty eclectic natural wines which have some pretty unique tastes... I perhaps am more traditional.. Was great to see the kitchen, interact with team and they looked like they were having a good time. Definitely on the pricier side but I think the value is there.
In conclusion, high-quality French cuisine with high satisfaction but more challenges (250+ tip & tax, & pairing 110 etc.) There are many impressive dishes that are worthy of satisfaction at important points, but there are also many disappointing dishes (especially the seasoning that is impossible for Japanese-style dishes), the wine is mostly Italian and has a sharp organic flavor, and the dessert is too sweet to eat. I cant generalize because the menu changes depending on the season and timing, but this low cost performance of 40,000 yen per person is rare even in Japan, making it difficult to repeat. The reason why the ratings of posts are so different depending on the person is probably because there is a problem with the cost performance compared to other stores.
Great, passionate team. You like the theatrical formula or not. Wine discoveries ++. Lack of consistency and common thread in the dishes, unfortunately unforgivable given the price. The desserts took up too much space for our tastes (3 courses and disproportionate size compared to the meal).
Updated - October 22 So I went back there for my party last October. The dishes are always so creative and fabulous on the palate, great discoveries like sea urchins and hazelnuts, tuna, lamb... This time the menu of the moment offered: For the salty, Barba papa appetizer with charcoal and foie gras Potato and shellfish Sea urchin and hazelnuts Tuna and raspberries Walleye and artichokes Lobster and chanterelles Quails and fruits Lamb and mustard For sweets, Apricot and keyboard Jerusalem artichoke and kelp Minardises -------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------- This establishment is terrible! We cant, not go back there again and again. I discovered this place in 2015-16, shortly after it opened and from the first dinner, I was floored, from the first course to the last. I dont know how Mr. Antonin (yes, at this level, its Monsieur with a capital M) manages to stun our palates with each dish he creates and presents with his team. Even during the pandemic (we have to support our restaurateurs who havent had it easy), I went to get takeaway meals and each time, it was an unforgettable experience. When I learned of its reopening in October 2021, you can imagine that I did everything to be present at that evening. Once again, the magic has worked! Whether it was razor clams, scallops, sea urchin, poultry, lamb and others, everything was perfect (I m weighing my words) Its just as creative, beautiful to look at and incredibly good once in the mouth with all this maelstrom of flavors that are released while you chew and this incredible combination of textures. We come out of there a bit like after a good show, our heads still full of unforgettable sensations.
The is no word in the dictionary to describe how out of this world the food and service are at that place. I can only give a maximum of 5 stars but would give more if I could. Thanks to Antonin and his whole team for hosting us during a meal I will remember all my life
Great experience! A magnificent 10+ course meal to discover combinations of flavors that are sometimes unusual, but always delectable. All the dishes are prepared with creativity and great know-how. Homemade and local products are featured in all dishes, which are presented with elegance and sobriety. The concept is original and advantageously distinguishes Le Mousso from other gourmet restaurants in the city. The place is friendly. The service is courteous. He respects the rules of the art without being stuffy. We tasted and felt the passion of the entire team throughout this very pleasant evening. Many thanks and Cheers! to the whole gang :)
The mousseau is an experience and a menu that is prepared months in advance. The quality of seasonal and local food, the time the staff takes to create flavors through maceration and long-term cultivation is incredible. The flavors can sometimes be surprising and may not please you at first bite. The wines, taken individually, can be unique but when paired with the meal they become fantastic. Some of my friends did not appreciate the presentation of the dishes which interrupted the conversation. That said, presentation is part of the context, and who better than the chef to recommend the best way to enjoy the dish.
A magical journey through Quebecs finest. A Cirque du Soleil gastronomical experience Thank you to the wonderful team at Le Mousso for all your hard work!
The staff were knowledgable and friendly, and their passion for and talent in food was an education. The wine pairing just accentuated the flavours. Their food and cooktail - the flavours and accents were just amazing! A phenomenal experience!! This is why people work in the food industry - to share happiness and explore great flsvours
Impeccable experience. Very original and warm culinary concept. Congratulations to the whole team!
The ultimate here at home! Art with a sensational team.
Deserving of at least 2 Michelin Stars for the food and wine program alone. Bilingual Staff for French and English is great for an inclusive and fun experience for all.
A very ordinary highly lit setting with uncomfortable seats where you have to endure 4 hours of a tasting menu, permeated by interludes of tedious lectures about the wines and the alchemy used to produce the menu . Despite the emphasis on fresh seasonal local ingredients, original flavors are annihilated by gross over processing, reductions, and strange combinations. For example, white asparagus cooked with wild boar fat and tasting of nothing. Fresh crab with absolutely no taste of crab. Lobster so processed it loses its flavor completely. The wine pairings are poor, as is the quality of the wine. Despite the $375 per person price tag, quality ingredients are minimal. Prices are higher than many 2- and 3-star Michelin restaurants. What you get is a far cry and left us both feeling queasy. Most people praise or seem to believe they have a wonderful experience despite being assaulted by a culinary chemical experiment. Perhaps we can burst the bubble and say that this really does taste bad, and please don t think that because of the reputation it must be good. In some cases, the emperor really is wearing no clothes! After 4 hrs. we were relieved that the experience was finally over.
What an experience this was. Excellent food
Spectacular
For me the best fine dining restaurant in Montreal by far. The concept is really fun, the chef and sommelier present the plates and wine one by one to everyone at the same time eveyone eats at the same time. The presentation and quality of the food is impeccable, we had an intolerance to eggs, lobster and crab. They accommodated us with ease and pleasure. For the price, the quality and experience I would highly recommend! For me the best gastronomic restaurant by far in Montreal. The concept is really very good. Each dish is presented by the chef and the wine by the sommelier, everyone eats at the same time. We had an intolerance to eggs, lobster and crab, they accommodated us with enthusiasm and pleasure. For the price, quality and atmosphere I highly recommend.
Mince consolation.
The attention to detail was astounding. It is absolutely worth the price. Will definitely be coming back. The chef and his entire staff have a love for food that is displayed in all their dishes. This is their art and it feels like youre on the panel for Top Chef. Food
For my partners 50th birthday, what an unforgettable meal! Thank you to the whole team because every moment of dinner was perfect
A breathtaking culinary spectacle!
One of the best dinners possible. A breathtaking food and wine combination. The presentation made between each dish to describe it and the wine that goes with it, makes the dinner atypical, but for epicureans and foodies, a must!
At the heart of Montreals culinary scene, Le Mousso positions itself as a must for Fine Dining . Its bold approach, offering only a tasting menu, intrigues and attracts. The deliberate choice to eliminate the selection process and place your trust in experienced staff is a unique concept that adds to the experience. The innovation continues in the musical atmosphere, where Le Mousso breaks with tradition by playing rap songs like 2Pac and Notorious BIG. This contributes to a dynamic and contemporary atmosphere, contrasting pleasantly with the classic approach to haute cuisine. However, despite these innovative elements, my visit to Le Mousso did not trigger the same WoW as other restaurants in the same price category ($1000 with tip and taxes). Although I had 2-3 good moments, the experience did not reach the level of a Europea or an Okeya Kuyijiro. Some dishes on the tasting menu were undoubtedly flavorful and intriguing, but they lacked the substance and impact that mark a high-end dining experience. In short, Le Mousso offers a fresh and daring approach to Fine Dining , promoting confidence and exploration. But, compared to other establishments in the same price range, it doesnt quite manage to deliver on the promise of a transcendent dining experience. An interesting visit, but not necessarily memorable for those seeking culinary excellence in every bite.
Pretentious! Only open 3 days so we charge too much for everything. Even the waiter understood my point. The food was good but we found there was a lot of overkill. You shouldnt take people for idiots anyway. Not sure I want to try his little brother. We left a little frustrated.
Well, I liked stopping there.
Everything was perfect. I will dream about this meal every day until I die.
Excellent in every way except for the smells of the street which mix with the aromas of the excellent dishes and wines. I strongly suggest closing the windows because throughout the evening the smells of cigarettes, SQDC products and especially the emanation of the sewer from Ontario Street. One of our most beautiful culinary experiences!!! Dietary restrictions: Compliance with dietary restrictions
Great experience with creative and delicious dishes!
What a fabulous evening! All countries are tasty, fine, delicious and totally improbable! All these mixtures of ingredients that seem to have nothing to do together but which melt the taste buds with happiness, its incredible! In addition, the team is magnificent, generous and we feel their happiness to be there. Truly, a perfect experience from start to finish. I loved it! Thank you to all the members of the team for this evening which will remain engraved in our memory for a long time.
For my birthday, my super girlfriend invited me to Le Mousso What an experience! Among my 5 greatest gastronomic experiences of life, and God knows Ive had some. A fireworks display of flavors, surprises and discoveries that we cannot describe or imagine without having experienced it. The creativity of chef Antonin Mousseau-Rivard and his brigade takes us into an abstract universe where each flavor is a color that combines with others in irrational but fabulous mixtures, worthy of a painting by his grandfather, Jean-Paul Mousseau . Each dish is a snub to conventions in combinations of ingredients that are as unlikely as they are harmonious. When we use sea urchin cream for dessert and finish the meal magnificently on a plate of stones, it is clear that we are very, very far from the beaten track of gastronomy. Note to the media, it is not your gastronomic critic that you should send to Mousso. But your journalist who covers contemporary art, because art transcends every plate. The food and wine pairing also makes us make wonderful discoveries that are equally surprising and tasty. In short, a few hours of pleasure and happiness fueled by passionate people, who have successfully innovated to live and share their passion by moving away from the inhumane working conditions that the kitchens of large restaurants usually impose.
Excellent in all respects
A truly unique experience, Quebec ingredients, love on every plate and wine pairings. Gorgeous. The Chef too, super top.
What a great experience. Full of wow, I enjoyed every dish, the alcohol pairing, the dishes and utensils. Im going back as soon as I sell my last kidney.
One of the best restaurants in Montreal. In the top 5 of my best culinary experiences of life. An experience to try at least once.
Amazing culinary experience. Chef Antonin Mousso is boldly creative without arrogance, easy to talk to, loves and respects his brigade who are all amazingly knowledgeable and attentive. Every serving was an experience, every wine pairing a journey. Highly recommend.
superb dishes!
I highly recommend
This is a unique culinary experience with exquisite dishes made from local ingredients. The portions are not huge, but because of the variety and the amount of services, you do end up coming out of there full. One thing that is a little more unconventional is that everyone in the restaurant eats at the same time. That means each service is brought out at the same time. Whether you eat faster or slower doesnt matter. Needless to say, it will inevitably be a 3-hour long meal with interruptions in-between each dish because someone is at the front explaining how the meat is cooked, how the sauce is made, what is sprinkled on top, which region each ingredient is from, etc. Theres also a detailed explanation of the wine pairing (should you decide to include that). Its creative, its innovative, its lavish, its bougie... Its honestly absolutely fantastic, but its not for everyone!
The food is very creative and the wine pairings are perfect! We were educated by the chef and the sommelier on every dish and pairing. Do, we greatly enjoyed the night.
We went here last night with a reservation as an occasion of the reopening of stores in montreal. This was our first real tasting menu. The dining room was cozy and luxurious at the same time, creating a neat inviting room for us to eat in for the next few hours. Only downside was the cold draft coming from the window. My girlfriend also chose the wine pairing which combined nicely with the dishes. The staff were amazing at introducing us to the experience as it was our first time, and we were educated on all the dishes and drinks. Unfortunately, my 4th lobster dish was undercooked and chewy (my girlfriends portion was great apparently), and made me Ill for the second half of the tasting menu. For a minute I thought it would be the alcohol not sitting with my stomach well, but I only took a few sips of my girlfriends pairing, and had to get sick in their bathroom before the end of the night (I started feeling ill about 5 minutes after eating the dish, and still queasy this morning). For the price, its quite unfortunate as it really mellowed the experience and prevented me from eating more than a bite from the last 6 dishes. I normally eat lots!!! As it was our first time, I was embarrassed to point the lobster out to the kitchen. From what I could eat, most of the other dishes hit the mark, but were a bit too salty for us. However, the plating was immaculate, and the technique shown in the dishes (minus the lobster) is quite impressive. Anyways the staff was awesome, but it wasnt quite the experience I wouldve expected for a 700$ bill on a table of 2!
I ate at Mousso the best meal of my life. The quality of the products (mostly local!), the perfect culinary techniques, the extraordinary flavors and the originality of the dishes really impressed me. Plus, the team is really great. Its a ballet set to the minute in which we are spectators and actors, but without ever feeling the stress of the team. Chef Antonin and his accomplices offer a unique experience that I highly recommend.
An extraordinary gastronomic experience. A North American restaurant that you absolutely must visit.
Different experience certainly, good service but paltry portions and flavors not justifying the exorbitant price. Wine (pairing) served drop by drop. Apart from a few exceptions, no taste surprises...as far as Im concerned.
A little disappointed... excellent first courses - memorable in the explosion of flavors - later sauces sometimes too salty or even too fatty. We expected more subtleties and nuances in the flavors and textures. Still happy to have been there but we wont be going back!
Great experience, nice atmosphere. There is real attention to detail in everything we eat, it was delicious.
Original... tasty... magical!
An incomparable experience, you feel like you are at the table of kings.
A culinary experience out of the ordinary. Impeccable service, a chef who shares his passion. The only but .the cost prevents us from choosing this haven of gastronomy as often as we would like
Exceptional!! One of the best restaurants in Montreal! Worthy of a castle relay. The service is excellent and attentive. Really impressed! wow I went back 4 years later, still exceptional, hard to believe but still a tick and more. Thank you for giving us an indescribable experience. Thank you a thousand times
4.5 stars (if I could) as the flavor palette for several dishes overlapped a bit too often, and the price (250 CAD) is the highest for any tasting menu in Montreal, while not being the best restaurant in Montreal (Bouillon Bilk would get my vote there). That being said, Le Mousso is still a treat and an experience, and a really solid fine dining option for Quebec at large. What I liked the most: 1) In 138 Michelin restaurants, I have never ever been to one in which the chef and the sommelier will come out and make a speech in front of all diners about every single dish and drink you are served. I loved the theatricality of this! 2) Some of the dishes are completely eye-gasmic. 3) Even more importantly, several dishes are completely taste-gasmic! The onion cream caviar dish was one of the most delicious dishes I have ever had anywhere. The lobster taco, the cotton candy foie gras on a stick, and the 1st dessert (I forgot the name though the milk cream/custard was infused with a smoky-ness that was amazing, especially for a dessert!), were also exceptional. What I liked the least: 1) We arrived on time for our reservation, and the first course did not get served until nearly 1 hour later. The reason for this is the meal couldnt start until all diners were present in the restaurant, as diners are all served each course simultaneously. Not only did this delay the start, but throughout the meal, we would wait and wait for slower diners to finish their courses. When some diners are seemingly more interested in conversing than eating, that especially becomes a bit annoying. 2) As mentioned earlier, some of the flavor palettes across dishes were too similar. Both of the desserts were similar white cream/custards (one milk focused, one corn focused), and I would have liked to try something different for the 2nd dessert (something fruity, or chocolate-y). Several of the mains also had the same savory bourguignon sauce/taste, and Im not sure why each dish wasnt more unique. 3) Each dish that just had one stand alone item (a piece of meat, a piece of fish, duck) was lacking. Clearly, the chefs intent is for you to focus on that item (since there are no sides), but when that item doesnt blow you away, you end up eating one block of meat or fish that isnt that special, and wish there was more creativity and ingredients in the dish. Overall, this still gets 4.5 stars from me, and I dont regret eating here at all, I just wish Le Mousso did a few things differently to go over the top.
I ate at Mousso twice. I remember 3 memorable dishes. And overall, I would still be able to say what half of the flats were, 3 years and 1 year later. Few restaurants are capable of producing this effect on memory. I like the new concept and knowing that the price means that everyone is paid well and doesnt work until late hours.
Perfect
Hello to you, My husband and I went to Mousso for dinner last week. The decor is beautiful. The staff is friendly. There is a vibe of excitement and mystery in the air. The menu is secret. People are happy to be there! The 11 services begin. Exquisite cocktail. Spectacular first course! Second course not bad. The sequel, sorry but not worth the $850 for two. The portions are really small even for a small Fe-girl appetite! The services are punctuated by numerous interventions from the owner and cook and his sommelier. We would have liked to take the explanations grouped into two or three courses to allow us to chat a little among ourselves. We werent lucky with the wines. We didnt really like them except for one or two. Were going there once, yes! Were going back...no
In short - Id give it 3.5 stars. This is strongly influenced by the price point. My partner made our reservation kind of by accident. We didnt know anything about the restaurant prior to arriving, including is being a high end dining chefs tasting menu only. So we went in with no expectations, but weve had plenty of fine dining experiences before so we were down for the experience. Im actually shocked we got a reservation only a couple hours prior to service. (To be clear the restaurants website and Resy were very clear about their menu. My partner just didnt pay attention.) Where the Le Mousso shines is in service, ambience, and visuals of the food. Every dish was beautiful and must take a very high technical ability to pull off. While we dont speak French the staff gave us a full explanation of every dish from inspiration, to sourcing, to execution. A lot of thought goes into every dish and wining pairing, and the entire staff seem super passionate about their work. Stand out dishes including sea urchin, scallops, boar. However, I thought many of the dishes over promised. They couldnt totally live up to the hype. They might do themselves a service to tone down the build up to the actual food in my mouth. I would say 1/3 of the dishes were truly phenomenal. Some of the dishes were so delicate that they didnt leave an impression (gin cocktail, oysters), and the duck was a disappointment since I otherwise love duck. Also, because all 30 plates are prepared together and there is a somewhat lengthy introduction to each course some of the dishes lose heat. I must disclose that I really do not care for natural wine. I think they all taste like juice/cider and lack depth/complexity. The entire wine pairing was natural wine. I wish I had been told that before agreeing to it. I may have passed and saved myself some money. They did pair well with the dishes. But again, a lot of flowery descriptions for wine that cant live up to the hype. I was kind of shocked there was no alternative to wining pairing, or water.
Firstly the staff is very professional, courteous and very friendly, however the formula is much too long, too much explanation in the end you ate cold, some dishes much too salty and the quantities of food served for $250/person is simply absurd , I feel like I was robbed, no tablecloth, utensils lying around on the table, in short a bad experience for me
It all started with an innocent elderberry cocktail. Next thing I knew I ate a whole piece of foie gras rolled in cotton candy made from charcoal? Genius. The presentation along with the individually paired pours of wine really selaed the deal. 10/10 would recommend
Le Mousso is an extraordinary culinary experience. It s 3 hours of a tasting menu and everyone is served at the same time to maintain an element of surprise. Before each course, the chef explains sourcing of all ingredients, the idea behind the dish and its execution. Then all the chefs serve each table simultaneously. The presentation is beautiful in every course. All 12 courses felt like the most surprising and delicious discovery of local ingredients beautifully put together, including the incredible cocktails. The food, especially the sauces are very rich, lots of cream, butter and foiegras, yet you still get to experience the pure taste of all ingredients. The staff is delightful, every interaction feels like they re happy to work there and want to make your experience the absolute best it can be. Very pricey but worth it for a special celebration.
More than a meal; an event! You truly get to experience the passion of the staff and the creativity of the dishes was unparalleled. Do the wine pairing and the vegetarian menu did not disappoint (let them know before). The menu expertly highlights the many local treasures of region. A Must!
Quite a gastronomic experience!!!
The overall service and presentation was amazing. The way they present the food and make it a show for everyone is very cool. The food was absolutely incredible and really a special experience.
A whole taste experience in a charming decor and an excellent atmosphere that is both relaxed and rigorous. A big congratulations to the sommelier for her presentation of the wines with a good dose of energy
Overall, amazing experience! Each course is different, complimentary cocktail and tea at the end.
Absolutely amazing experience - be on-time though, they start everyone at the same time! The staff was friendly and fun, and the food was creative and an absolute delight Vegetarian options: Theyre accommodating as long as you let them know ahead of time! Dietary restrictions: Theyre accommodating as long as you let them know ahead of time!
Decadent, get the wine pairing. This is worth every cent and then some. Delicious way to experience Quebecois cuisine.
Perfect dinner. An exceptional and unique moment, the dishes are succulent, creative cuisine, perfect service.
We went for a birthday. Excellent and original menu. Very good atmosphere and excellent presentation.
This place is amazing.
Amazing experience- like attending a theatre per/ wine pairing was so impressive and very nicely presented!
Ultra gourmet dinner to take away. More than delicious, it was extraordinary.
Bravo! We weren t sure what to expect, but let me tell you, if you re in Montreal, you absolutely MUST try this restaurant out. I love the unique concept and experimental nature of this experience. Sit back, relax, and enjoy an experience that is simply phenomenal. Our experience was personable, one-of-a-kind, and honestly something very special. Well worth the price and the four and a half hour dining experience. Congratulations to the Chef and his team. We will remember this night forever.
Food is delicious, there is nothing else to say. Thanks to the famous chef. I will come back again when they wil reopen fo sure.
Always incredibly delicious and creative. The Easter menu was absolutely incredible. Hats off and thank you!
Best culinary experience in Montreal
The food here is Ah-ma-zing. If you like a tasting bar, do go here. Your senses will be enlivened. Low key décor but definitely sets a mood. Unless you know what to look for from the outside though you may miss it! Great staff, friendly and fun:)
Amazing experience
Best restaurant in Montreal, hands down!
Been here a bunch of times and the food was amazing every single time. The portion sizes are just right when you take full course meals as well. The service is friendly. It sometimes took too much time between dishes, but otherwise everything was perfect. They have great wines as well!
Incredible, a culinary experience to try at least once in your life.
It s finally reopened and they haven t lost any of their talent during the pandemic!
As announced by the chef at the start of the service, an evening at Mousso is like attending a great ballet. An intoxicating experience, elegant service, a parade of spectacular, surprising, delicious dishes served in magnificent ceramic dishes. Everything is perfect, the music, the lighting, the comfort of the chairs. Its luxurious and impressive, but whats even more charming is the friendly, almost friendly atmosphere, a beautiful simplicity that made us very comfortable from the moment we arrived. And we had a lot of fun. For epicureans, it s a luxury to indulge in at least once in your life, or to repeat once a year!
The dishes are sought after but the price is really excessive, and the dish/wine pairing really disappointed us. We found better and cheaper elsewhere. Sorry but really for us who were waiting for the reopening its a disappointment.
Best restaurant experience I ve ever had. 11 unique courses, each explained by the chef, with wine pairing it all blew my mind. I ll be dreaming about those dishes.
Imaginative cuisine with a attention to details and local ingredients. Let yourself be guided, charmed or shocked but unusual combinations of unique ingredients. Quite a treat!
I was at Mousso last week, to introduce this restaurant to a very dear friend, to give him this unforgettable experience and to please myself, once again. Because every time I went there, I was dazzled. This new concept is no exception, it simply amazed us. Le Mousso is not just a restaurant, it is an ephemeral work of great beauty, it is sometimes a skillfully orchestrated classical ballet, a theatrical fresco where each actress and actor plays an essential role. Each dish is a work of art placed with finesse and originality on Gaïa ceramics. The flavors, the tastes, the originality of the dishes are astounding, its high-flying. Thank you for taking us on a journey through our agri-food territory and its artisans; Antonins words on this subject are essential and relevant. When we talk about culinary art, this notion takes on its full meaning at Mousso and Antonin masters his art masterfully. I hope to be able to come back for a long time. Thank you, I love you.
13 flawless services, each one more surprising than the last. A warm atmosphere where each dish is introduced in a unique way. Completely in a class of its own.
Amazing chef with even greater tasting menu.
Innovative menu, excellent service. Maybe a little expensive.
What a marvel in every way! The service, the discoveries, the atmosphere, the agreements and the care that all the staff put into it make it a clearly EXCEPTIONAL place.
The tasting menu for montreal en lumiere with chef Daniel Burns was just delicious. The staff was very professional and the wine pairing was impeccable. Thank you alexis, raphaele and luana for this beautiful evening.
Went to Le Petit Mousso for my father s Bday Pros: Good ambiance and setting, knowledgeable staff and server, great selection of wines & spirits, excellent food at a reasonable price. Cons: 2 out of us 4 got sick the night of our supper, vomiting and recovering for indigestion the following day. We had fruit flies hovering our table all night, I actually caught one and killed it since they practically bothered us all night. Our final tab of 480$ was worth all the pros but quite disappointed about the bad luck we had while celebrating with family. I hope they have solved these issues for the remainder of the year.
High-end sister restaurants offering creative, seasonal à-la-carte dishes or set dinner menus.
I honestly had such a good time at Le Mousso, service was impeccable, food was delicious would definitely return there!
The best restaurant in Montreal in my humble opinion! Outstanding service, tasting menu to die for, relaxed atmosphere, accessible for a gourmet restaurant!
Amazing staff . incredible food.
Yes please, I want more. Le Mousso is nothing short of magic and artistry.
The Korean inspired formula for the reopening of the restaurant (after quarantine) was absolutely delicious and the restaurant managed to keep a nice atmosphere despite the social distancing. Going back for sure!
Cold food Everything happened at the same time Cost vs price charged to the customer = ridiculous
Excellent ! A great experience!!
Delicious
For an incredible gastronomic experience this is where you have to return!
A unique culinary experience! Thanks to Antonin and his team, just wow!
Service and cooking skills are so good, but the food is too salty!!!!! My tongue numbed, it s literally like eat a whole bag of salt.
An evening that started well, but ended badly. The aperitif was very good, it was a good start to the dinner which looked promising. The first course Matrix fruits and sea urchin marigolds physalis was interesting and had good flavors. The first problem of the evening then presented itself, the service between courses was rather long, 20 to 30 minutes between each course is a long time. The scallop, broccoli, crab and lobster dishes were all good, but all a little too salty, the wine pairings were good. The best dish of the evening was definitely the razor clams and corn, it was excellent and reminded me of Mexico. This is where the evening was really ruined, the duck dish. Inedible, the taste was ok, but the duck was hard as rubber, then the wine was unpleasant. The desserts were very strange and unpleasant, the wines disgusting. A horrible coffee wine, I wanted to vomit. In fact, the combination of all these wines and these strange flavors made us all want to vomit, my parents were completely disappointed, especially because the bill for four people was $1200 including tax and tip. It s an exaggerated price for a less than perfect evening and it s the first time I ve considered a gourmet dinner not worth the price. I have had much more pleasant experiences in several other restaurants in Montreal, while this one is considered by many to be the best in the city. Unfortunately, I dont plan to return to Mousso.
Not very impressed with the food considering the price.
Wow
We loved our experience at the Mousso. But thats what it is - an experience. Its a place you go for a special evening, almost like a show or a visit to the museum. The service was good, food was delicious, presentation was art on a plate. Definitely a must go, but its not a place where you go back often, because its almost too special.
Finally a table where the dishes taste as advertised! I went there to celebrate my granddaughters 18th birthday and it was an unforgettable evening for both of us. Each dish on the tasting menu, sublime, was in itself a work of art. And the service was very attentive, without hypocritical kowtowing. Beautiful young people who seem to love life! The cost? High but not excessive considering the great pleasure felt during this four-hour evening. We even forgot about Covid-19... Well done to the whole team!
Just incredible. Almost no words to describe an 11 course 4 hr meal w exquisite pairing a lot of which is sourced from local produce. The plating also equally impressive. Having the chef introduce each course as the whole room eat together is a fun inclusive touch as well. Go once and try it. Worth every penny ( and there is a lot of them needed too!)
Best tasting menu in Montreal hands down!
We were here in 2018, but still think back to this terrible experience. We had a reservation for months, we were sat. Then, after getting our drinks, someone came to us and told us we could no longer sit there. Someone very important was coming (a regular) and he had to have that table. Because it was slammed, all that was left was the bar. We should ve just left, but instead we moved to the bar so someone more important could sit at the table to our right. We spent over $400 on small portions (the cost of the tasting) and not only left dissatisfied (went to go get more food), but increasingly uncomfortable with what had happened. It s 2 years later and we still think of that awful restaurant in Montreal that was completely disrespectful and overpraised.
I didnt have the experience in the dining room, I ordered the meal boxes, the box is good however, it is really too expensive for the contents. $175 for the box, (150 before taxes), at this price I expect a culinary experience and this is not the case, the competition is fierce in gourmet boxes and at this price certain competitors clearly offer better, In summary, wait until the dining room reopens.
The dishes arrive a little quickly but the desserts are definitely worth the detour. A must-see in Montreal.
It was great
