Cozy, rustic-chic wine bar with an outdoor patio, serving eclectic, farm-fresh fare.
Had a concert across the street and reserved a spot at this resto upon reading other reviewers noting 2/3 of the menu items were Gluten Free for my spouse. It was our first visit. Our server, Charles, took the time to explain the menu with gluten free options and indeed 2/3 of the menu were GF. Each dish that was brought to the table was also explicitly stated by the server if it had gluten (I ordered gluten containing dishes). The gluten free items we had were Shaved ham, Chicken dish, Maitake mushrooms, Charbon Fish (Monk fish) and Carrot cake dessert. Non GF item ordered were the Chouquette with tuna, Bread, and Crostata apple pastry dessert. Initially seeing the reviews of complaints of portion size had us doubt our choice and only the fish dish was a bit out of proportion but it was immediately made up with the prep and flavours of the dish. You have to taste the food here to understand why it's so highly rated and not judge it by pictures alone. The service, the food ingredients, the excellent prep and flavours of every dish we had were extraordinary with wine pairing recommendations. The GF carrot cake dessert was incredible. Even the final double shot espresso was excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed our first dining experience here and will be back for the service and attention to excellent gluten free options and dessert.
Super romantic diner with very great menu - even for us vegetarian ! Staff were really profesh and friendly, had a very great time and will highly recommend.
Amazing menu with top notch service! The ambiance is on point and their bottle list is extensive and deep. Highly recommend to anyone looking for an intimate dinner spot!
This place has amazing food and a really cozy vibe. Their dishes are perfect for sharing with friends. The server recommended that we get six dishes for our group of 3, and it was just the right amount. And the dessert was out of this world - we had a heavenly chef's special: a carrot cake ice cream sandwich with toffee. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a great spot to hang out with friends and enjoy good food and drinks.
I had reservations on a Saturday night. We had to wait around 20 minutes before we were seated. Parking is not the easiest in this area but there are some paid parking lots you can use. We tried a bunch of different plates. As we are not huge wine people, we let our waitress help us pick out one that would go well with what we were eating. We really enjoyed the selection and the service was great. Despite the delayed start, the food and service was quick afterwards. Not sure I would visit again but was nice to experience it once.
cozy, chic, rustic atmosphere that goes perfectly with the petits plats of the evening. this is one of my top spots in the city. great shareable plates and the wine is fantastic. vibes are immaculate inside and great service. we got the bread, shaved ham, broccolini, scallops, steak and mushrooms and it was all fantastic. same owners as liverpool house and how beef which are both phenomenal too.
I visited while on a work trip and sat at the bar. The bartender was excellent! The service in general was great, and it was such a cute environment. The wine list is unique and the dishes I tried were really good, especially the rabbit sausage. Perfect place to share small plates with friends.
We came here at the recommendation of a few friends, and it did not disappoint. Instead of choosing our own dishes we opted for the Blind Menu where they curated the entire dining experience for us, considering our food preferences. The jambon et fromage was the best of all that we got 2 plates! The tomato dish, and the biscuit and radish round out the top 3 for us. As for dessert, we got the carrot cake ice cream sandwich, which was also one of their bestsellers. Overall, a nuit parfaite!
This place is a must to visit when in mtl Overall fun choices on the menu The jambon is such a great dish ! Great ambiance at all times and waiters are great Food : 5/5 |
10/10 Nothing to complain about, delicious, welcoming!
The absolute best. Possibly best restaurant period? For fine dining as well I leave feeling not ripped off.
Florence is an outstanding waitress. There were six of us and we felt received, welcomed. What hospitality! What can we say about these dishes, each one as good as the next?
The ambience in the summer is fantastic
Cute little spot to grab wine and shareables. Loved the ham/gouda cheese appetizer with sourdough!
Lovely place! Very tasty and warm service in a relaxed fun setting. Great wine recommendations also!
Excellent!
1000th!!
Amazing and affordable
Probably one of the restaurants I go to most often in Montreal. The menu is super accessible with lots of varieties. Vegetarians can easily find what they are looking for here. The staff is the number one factor that encourages me to return again and again. Professional waiters who know their products and their wine list, its refreshing!
A beautiful and charming gem in Montreal: diverse menu with tasty, refined shareable plates with perfect wine matches. The vibe is lively yet cozy, friendly and buzzing. (Reservations are required).
Far cry from when we were last here a few years ago: within minutes, a manager said something rather unkind about us after we politely asked if we could change tables. She didnt even try to speak quietly, we both heard what she said loud and clear. What a start to the evening! As for the food, some of the plates portions were less than 1/2 the size of what we were expecting, (and we were expecting small plates to begin with) and a couple of dishes were meant to be returned outright: like the potato dauphine with mussels which was essentially just a deep fried pocket of air that tasted of burnt oil served with precisely 4 tiny smoked mussels which is a pairing that, well, doesnt pair at all. Visually, it made me gag and youll see why if you order it. Or the delicata squash which was served as 2 baby bite-sized bits of vegetable: at that point its just insulting to two grown adults. Or how about their cherry pie which had a total of 5 cherries in the slice? How...curated? I guess I should have taken the hint when our waiter greeted us not by wishing us a happy anniversary the way every other restaurant has done in the past after reading the reservation notes, but instead by asking if we know how their renowned restaurant concept works. Now we do.
Had a wonderful experience last night. Our waiter was super helpful with recommending drinks and food. We asked him to surprise us with our meal and everything was 10/10. Highly recommend. Get the jamon dish!!!!!
Cute date spot. Highly recommend going with a reservation. The menu is supposed to constantly change. Classic French with a bit of a twist. Definitely a go to if you like to order a bunch of different small plates to share. Get the dessert. The carrot cake ice cream cake with toffee dripping was amazing. Would go back just to have that again.
Incredible meal and service, you won t be disappointed! The menu does change often and is not available to view in advance so you won t know the items available for order but this wasn t a problem for us even with a gluten free dietary consideration. Be aware that there is both outdoor and indoor seating with the outdoor seating being shared communal tables - if you have a strong preference be sure to notify them in advance. The staff are incredibly sweet, everything was perfect even with an obnoxious person at our communal table the situation was handled very well by the wait staff.
Reservation on a Friday, evening 6:00 p.m. We were able to get a place on the terrace but only 1 table remained available. Not seeing the menu in advance I didnt really know what to expect but pleasantly surprised I hesitated between several dishes. Some were generous but others found them a little too small (for example the bourgots). Otherwise the service was excellent and fast, beautiful terrace. Great beer/wine too. We liked all our dishes but it remains a menu to taste and discover flavors. So perfect for a glass of wine and plan 2-3 dishes per person
Inviting and intimate, but relaxed atmosphere. Staff was incredibly knowledgeable and excited to help guide to a great experience. Must get the ham, must get the mushrooms!
Excellent food... excellent staff... Jen was exceptional..
Fantastic dinner here celebrating our wedding anniversary. We sat on the garden patio which was so nice with a relaxing rustic chic vibe. Their menu is large and they do everything so well. I am gluten and lactose free and was able to have 2/3 of what s on the menu with some slight modifications. Thank you to our servers and the kitchen for being so great about dietary restrictions and modifications. The tomatoes with roasted sunflower seeds, beef tartare and eggplant with crispy chicken skins on top were standouts for me, but everything was truly wonderful. They did a fantastic job of pairing and pacing the 6 plates we ordered. A very welcoming spot with impeccable service and memorable food; can t wait to return. Dietary restrictions: Fantastic job of modifying things to be gluten and lactose free
Amazing food and vibe The ham, mushrooms and carrot cake are a must Food
This place has been on my list to try for many years. Finally got around to it, but I was overall disappointed. Nothing was bad, but the standouts were the bread and wine, neither of which is a reflection of the restaurant. Portions were also EXTREMELY small really is this a dinner for ants?! The special of the day was a cube of overcooked and fishy tuna, maybe 4cm on each side, for $22. I wasn t sure if I should laugh or feel insulted at that. Tried the signature ham dish, which was tasty and the cheese and brown butter mixed well. Upgraded with fresh truffles, but this did not add anything other than $10 to the bill. The flavours on plate overpowered the tiny amount of truffle. Also tried: eggplant with fried chicken skin and garlic sauce: crispy chicken skin was great. rabbit merguez sausage: if I wasn t told it was a merguez, I would never have guessed, but it was ok for rabbit. mistake mushrooms: I looove maitake. These were braised very well, with a delicious mushroom reduction sauce Carrot cake ice cream sandwich with caramel : buttery caramel was amazing. Overall delicious. We arrived and were seated about 5 minutes before our reservation, and the waiter came to our table several times, but mostly to tell us he would come back soon after seeing to someone else. The result was 55 minute wait just to take our drink order. The waiter was really convivial but the wait and timing of plates once order was finally taken was unfortunate. Service, portions, prices I guess it is possible this place was better when it opened, but really disappointed and cannot see myself ever returning.
Great venue, good service, portions could be better for the price
We were disappointed with the redtaurant. How dare we charge $23 before taxes for two unaccompanied merguez?
Uninspiring! Do not understand the hype of this place. Only had three nights in Montreal and was extremely let down by spending a dinner here. Food was very underwhelming, the squash was watery and bland. The dishes were not well thought out. So many items were smoked, there are other techniques to make food interesting. Lacked diversity and imagination. Felt like I was eating random sides that had nothing to do with one another. I ate at Monarque the night before and Damas the night after, both were much better dining experiences! Ordered several dishes, didn t enjoy any of them. Searched for another place to go afterwards
From start to finish the service, atmosphere (even amid the pouring rain), and seasonal menu are above and beyond Our server was very attentive and helped us choose very interesting wines that paired with the meal absolutely perfectly - the complexity of the wine evolved with the meal, in unexpected ways The plates not only came out quickly (within minutes after ordering), but used unexpected combinations such as radish with the most buttery biscuit you ll ever taste. For a party of 4 we had 9 dishes total, plus 3 desserts The difference between a great restaurant and a good restaurant leaves you thinking about the interplay between the flavors of the dish long after you leave, versus serving flavorful dishes you may have enjoyed before. This is a great restaurant. Many thanks to the staff here for such a great evening.
One of my girlfriends favorite places and for a reason. Everything there is good and the service is flawless every time we visit. Great wine list too. An hidden gem a little outside the center.
I brought my family to this place because a friend recommended it. Fantastic food , small plates to share , excellent service and great atmosphere! We all loved it ! Will come back next time we are in Montreal.
Amazing service, really lovely wines, and the food was fantastic. We went with the ham and cheese that had a brown butter (absolutely delicious) along with the fresh bread, the chili green beans and rosemary butter mushrooms - all stood out on their own. We ate at the bar and the service was excellent! Highly recommend - and be sure to make a reservation.
Warm and inviting restaurant. Dishes executed to perfection featuring the freshest ingredients of the moment from their changing menu. We were vegan and they had no problem modifying vegetarian dishes for us. There was even an incredible vegan dessert (strawberry rhubarb sorbet). To try! Vegetarian options: Option to eat vegetarian and even vegan
The best service I ve ever had. Periodt.
Fantastic restaurant. Amazing food, great staff and awesome vibes. Would come back to Montreal just to eat here
Very cute and lively atmosphere. The wine selection was fun and funky, the food was fresh and delicious, and the staff were delightful. Will definitely be back next time we visit Montreal!
Great atmosphere. Great service and great food! No complaints and only great things to say.
Last two visits here have been terribly mediocre. Smaller plates than before, Wine by the glass very disappointing and very lacklustre service. This used to be in my top three restaurants. I ll take a break and revisit one day but honestly feel the bang for buck is no longer here. This restaurant is coasting too easily imo. Nearly no air conditioning on the bar side and very slow staggered service.
I have to be honest with this review, if you want to eat well, youve come to the right place. Beautiful dish to share, several choices in freshness, vegetables, meats are incredible. On the other hand, be advised that your waitress will inform you from the start that you must leave the table after 2 hours .. There were 4 of us, we had a reservation at 7:30 p.m. and she clearly indicated to us that at 9:30 p.m. there would be had another service and this even before ordering our first drink We felt very rushed and the waitress informed us that we were late in our choices if we were thinking of having dessert .. In addition, I booked a month in advance asking for a table on the back terrace and we did not get it. I reiterated my request and I received one of the wildest looks ever seen in a restaurant. For a 4-person bill of $660.00, unfortunately I expect to receive impeccable service. This was not the case. Bravo to the people in the kitchen for the excellence of the dishes but for the service, a slight delay is in order... This was the first visit and it will also be the last...
One of my favorite restaurants in Montreal
One of my favorite restaurants in Montreal! I highlight the choice of wines, dishes, but also the impeccable service! We are treated with great care, which gave our romantic evening such a positive touch!
Amazing food & service. I recommend the back patio on a beautiful day
Great for sharing and small plates Sweetbreads was such a highlight Not my favourite mackerel but everything else was delicious:) Aesthetically pleasing and vibes were good. Wheelchair accessibility: No steps inside the restaurant
Very nice and quiet terrace behind. Beautiful dishes with taste, an interesting wine list. Top notch customer service, even finding a table for 1 hour and giving us a great experience!
Beautiful terrasse in the back, amazing wine selection & delicious dishes. Must have the carrot caramel cake for dessert. Everything was top notch! Perfect ambiance for date night !
Coziest space, with great service. The carrot cake ice cream sandwich is a dessert I will think about often. The shaved ham and cheese is a perfect starter, and the mushroom dish with its delicious sauce is an umami dream.
Too expensive. Cold slices of ham with grated cheese on top for $18.00 is excessive even in a city where restaurant prices are already high.
I had a lot of expectations when going to eat at this Montreal institution and unfortunately it did not meet my expectations. Ordinary dishes, rushed service, in 45 minutes we had received our five dishes and were ready to leave. Lack of finesse, more of a happy hour place than sophisticated cuisine.
Very delicious food but the price is not fair regarding the portion of a dish. Respectful service Good place for informal meetings and drinking $$$ Food : 4/5
Wonderful sister restaurant to Joe Beef, with the food being on the lighter side and with a heavier vegetable focused. Great place for a group dinner, again with brilliant and friendly staff.
Service was great, Wine list wasn t as extensive as we d like, food was good but not spectacular. Carrots, ham and cheese were the highlights.
Really good food and service. Everything was really tasty. Even as a vegetarian there were so many tasty options. The mushrooms are incredible!!
Good food and good service but there is always place to improve. Disappointed that the wine selection by the glass was really really bad. By bottle there were some known good wines but by glass, although not cheap...poor selection. If I understand correctly their selection changes, but maybe the criteria is to get rid of bottles that dont sell ? Sell them by the glass ? So the less interesting ones ? No idea, but really poor bottles from France (2) , Argentina and Quebec, so four choices. Verdict : give it a try.
One of my favorite restaurants in Montreal! Their ham is a classic not to be missed! All their dishes are delicious, with quality ingredients and perfectly executed. Their wine list by the glass and bottle is very good and changes with each visit.
Warm place, dim lighting but a little noisy. The succulent food, everything is presented in the form of small dishes to share around a glass of wine. The waiters know how to advise on the type of wine that appeals.
Such a lovely place for a date night! The staff was super friendly and the food was delicious! Would definitely go back
One of the best restaurants in Montreal! The food was very delicious - dishes with complex and refined flavors. The service was attentive and the staff were friendly. I also liked the atmosphere of the place. I will definitely go back!
Lovely little restaurant with good food but the price was about 25% more than a similar restaurant with similar food.
Congratulations to the chef. Very pleasant experience, fast service and the food is really very good. It feels good to eat in a good restaurant.
Delicious! Wine bar with very good recommendations. Quebec-inspired food brilliantly executed. Easy and chic atmosphere.
Better than excellent service. Unique wine selection. Outstanding food. Reasonable prices.
nice discovery
One of the best restaurants in Montreal
First experience at Vin Papillon. First, the place is small, the tables are close to each other, that surprised me a little! The service, although immaculate, was however very quick at the start of the meal, perhaps a little too much. Afterwards, it adjusted, it was less rushed and more pleasant! However, the quality of the dishes was up to par. Its excellent. Its creative, delicious! The ham is a must, as is the dessert, carrot cake ice cream sandwich. Excellent choice of wine. All quite affordable! 7 shared dishes, 2 glasses of wine, dessert and coffee for $100. Its sublime! A 5 star without a doubt!!!
Lack of inventiveness: one ingredient on a plate, thats it. No uniformity between dishes. All the dishes feel like a little snack that your mom would have made for you after school. Organic wine that tastes like a little oasis grape juice to go with the school theme.
Perfect for a Valentines day evening.
Nice spot, tasty tapas style food
All dishes are meant for sharing, but please note that the serving sizes are small. While ham with slices of cheese is out of the ordinary, nothing else impressed me at all. Desserts are so-so.
Food, atmosphere and 5* service
Good wine, good service but we didnt like the dishes, we left with a heartache
Excellent address! The dishes are delicious (veal rice, eel, cut ham...), great service with the right level of explanations. We loved it.
Fanny our server was great. Very good fast tapas place. Good win and reasonably priced. Enjoyed it very much.
I had such high hopes, but I would not go back or recommend it. The service was just ok, some servers were a little cold. Half the dishes we chose were good, the rest was mediocre at best. 26$ for a plate of mushrooms is a little much but it seems like all the beautiful plates pictured here in other reviews were not on the menu: no scallops, no carrot eclair, etc. The ambiance and music were good, though. I just feel like this kind of money would be better spent elsewhere
What a great experience! Go with friends and share as many dishes as possible. All are super tasty! The waiters are very knowledgeable about natural wines, so definitely let them guide you in your choices.
Dude. Wow. This place is dope. Great wines (bottles and btg) great service and great food. The food is simple but way more delicious than the sum of the parts. Don t miss the ham. It s like seriously one of the best things I ve ever tasted, period. We will be back.
Who said warm welcome ? One snowstorm evening, a friend and I scrambled to meet our reservation time, as best the conditions allowed. First greeting: You re 10 minutes late. You have to leave at X oclock so you will have 10 minutes less to eat. » Thank you for the warm welcome! We went elsewhere in the area where we know how to entertain. No need to go far!
My favorite spot in Montreal. I love their creative modern twist on Quebec food in every dish, natural wine list and the cute vibe of the restaurant. Whenever I visit MTL, I try to go here!
I thoroughly enjoyed every experience I had at Vin Papillon. An incredible selection of wines and finely curated menu. The plates are small but every bite is amazing. The menu changes constantly depending on the season and produces they have. Last time, I had a very soft and elegant crudo, crunchy and perfectly cooked fried smelts and tangy rapinis. But the start of the show was the bread, served hot, with a bone marrow butter. To die for.
Vin Papillon had been on my restaurant bucket list since it opened, and my friend and I finally had the chance to visit last week. I had high hopes, but unfortunately, my experience was pretty disappointing. While the bottle of wine we had was excellent, the dishes lacked depth and complexity in their flavours. The bass had a fishy taste, and the mushrooms were kinda burnt and too oily. Even though I usually do not prefer salty food, I found each dish to be extremely under-seasoned. Its disheartening to spend a considerable amount of money on a meal that fell so short on expectations. I dont think we will ever be returning sadly.
Incredible experience. From start to finish, everything was perfect. I asked the waiter to pick out the entire menu for us (could not decide what to pic, everything looked amazing) and Im so glad I did - every single dish was absolutely delicious. Oh, and their wine selection is also amazing!
I walked by Vin Papillon a few weeks ago and it peaked my interest but already had other plans for the evening. Yesterday I finally had the chance to visit for dinner and I was honestly impressed! I appreciated the decor and vibrant atmosphere (it may not seem obvious as you walk by but the space is very welcoming and has a lot of charm on the inside). The staff were kind, had many great suggestions for us, and made our experience delightful. My partner and I are often overwhelmed by choice at restaurants and so we were especially happy to find out that they had a mystery option where they essentially provide you with several dishes Their choices did not disappoint! They also had fantastic recommendations for the three wines we tried. We will definitely come again :)
Went with my GF and an old friend on a Tuesday evening. Was blown away by the food, service and wine options. We asked for our server to bring us a surprise choice of sharing plates. Nothing disappointed... But the biggest surprise was the bill. Excellent value! We WILL be back!
Yesterdays experience was disappointing and not up to what the Papillon wine used to give us. We loved this restaurant precisely because even though we were vegetarians, the Vin Papillon managed to create dishes and options that were memorable. This was not the case yesterday. Very few vegetarian options on the menu. Impeccable and accommodating service which offered some variations of dishes without meat, but these only had the meat removed, without addition and above all at the price of the dish with meat. The special smoked carrot éclair, not on the menu. I had the impression that vegetarians are no longer a target clientele for the restaurant. Very disappointing. I hope that the arrival of the warm season and its vegetables will be able to restore this restaurant to its true rural nature. (Butterfly)
It can be hard to get a table here, but we ll worth it. The food is awesome and lots of interesting wines to try
Staff were awesome! Knowledgable, friendly, enthusiastic, and offered great recommendations for sharable dishes. Their menu has various fish options, including local options. Their tapas style dishes are great for sharing. Each dish we ordered felt like there was something missing with regards to flavour/taste, but this restaurants menu is consistently changing with their specials so its definitely worth going back to see what they have on another day! Great experience overall!
Good service and lovely spot but the food was pretty average for the higher price. I understand the concept is to focus on great fresh ingredients but all of the dishes were a little underwhelming and the portions were quite small. Nothing was bad, but for the price and the hype in the other reviews, it just didn t feel worth a $300 dinner for 2. The cheese and bread at the end was probably the highlight for me.
Great service, food was very interesting and different, nice experience . The waitress help us to pick our wine. Very nice touch
We loved our experience. The service was excellent (we missed nothing). It was my birthday and he discreetly surprised me with a Bengal fire (very cute). The menu was sophisticated and diverse. Very inclusive, this restaurant is perfect for those with dietary restrictions. Thank you for this memorable evening, we will definitely come back! Dietary restrictions: When we entered, the waitress (very nice) asked us about our dietary restrictions. Which I found surprising and which I liked the most from them. They have options for everyone (gluten-free, vegan and others) without compromise.
Good food
It is a VERY unique French dining experience (highly recommend going as a group to share). The food is infused with flavors of all kinds, from vegetarian to the meat dishes. We could pick items from the menu or ask for surprise. My group asked for a surprise and we were definitely happy with our choices! The patio was beautiful as well. The food was very affordable, underrated for Montreal standards! Anne-Cecile was our waitress and she was OUTSTANDING!!! Vegetarian options: They are accommodating Dietary restrictions: Vegetarian options available
Incredible dinner we had today
Beauty!
You ll never find a selection of wine like this anywhere!
Beautiful atmosphere with delicious food
Love the concept of having small plates to share! The maiitake mushroom doesn t look the prettiest on photos but it is so delicious. Was a bit hesitant about the ham & cheese as it just looks too simple a dish to order at a restaurant but it is surprisingly flavorful, definitely a must!
Honestly one of the best service I ve had in a restaurant, absolutely every staff was knowledgeable, friendly, efficient and they even apologized at the beginning since there was a lot of people in the restaurant and we never even waited in the end. Food was also tasty and fresh. It is tapas style so for 3 person we shared 8 small meals with one dessert each! Most of the pictures I took were taken after we eaten because it looked too good we couldn t wait! Honestly a must try for a good night
10/10
A bit expensive for what you get. Excellent service. Great wines. Food cart is a bit conservative. I ve seen the same in other restaurants for less expensive. You pay for the brand.
Alex was our server and she was amazing! So kind and helpful, she really knows her stuff! She seems like a truly beautiful person! The food was great but the service was even better.
my date and I sat by the bar. there wasn t lots of room for us to be comfortable but it wasn t much of a deal breaker since it s pretty much the experience we knew we would get by sitting at the bar. the concept of the restaurant would be to order more than one dish and to share them, which is what we did. the food was good, without being anything exceptional . I was quite disappointed when it came to choosing a dessert: the choices were somehow very alike. (two out of three had ice cream in it). as for the service, the waiter was simply doing her job. Let s say the bartender was more friendly !
The staff assist in pairing wine with their fabulous food and their selections are impeccable. I have never had a bad dish here. Wish I could award more than 5 stars. They deserve it.
Loved the ambiance! Selection of wine is one of a kind. Very friendly staff.
Great food & wine selection. Even better atmosphere !
Wow, the male server behind the bar last night was about as bad as you can get. He started off attentive but then it he completely neglected us and spent his time trying to flirt with any girl who didnt have a guy next to her. Was embarrassing to watch and really took away from the experience.
Beef Short Rib, Rubbarb, Horseradish/ Beef Tartare Pan Con Tomate with Focaccia / Matane Shrimp . Im slightly regretting taking so long to finally have tried @vinpapillon this Wednesday. Honestly it really didnt disappoint. Ive hear about it for years, being part of the Joe Beef Empire I was expecting something simple yet done perfectly and it was just right. Everything was done really really well and flavour were all on point. . Atmosphere is something to be said. On Notre-Dame not far from there other restaurants @liverpoolhousemtl and @joebeef its located in a food hotspot of Montreal. The decor is really great, gives a vibe of a old antique shop with nice win bottles everywhere. . Everything we got food wise was delicious, from the homemade bread and cute little artisanal butter packs, to what was for me the star of the day which was the Beef Short Rib. I would not have thought to pair this dish with rhubarb, but the way that it was prepared was just fantastic. Great portion sizes to share and prices are fair for the size and quality of what your getting!
Great service from waiters, that is about where positives end. Mediocre food (mostly deep fried bar food). Stick to salads and greens if you have to eat something. Atmosphere is so-so, I guess it is okay if you like to see an alley full of overgrown weeds.
After dining at Joe Beef and Mon Lapin my girlfriend and I thought Vin Papillion would be the one to complete the trifecta of overall service, quality, comfort and ambiance. Walking into the restaurant there was no hostess and we waited a bit thinking we may have gone in the wrong door. We were eventually seated at the front of the restaurant by the bar where the seating arrangement was problematic. The table was in a small sweaty alcove of unbearable heat, surely the most uncomfortable dining placement I ve ever experienced. There was no air conditioning or fans throughout the space. The wine bucket beside the bar was right beside my head and was constantly thumping the back of my chair throughout the night as servers were going back and fourth making it extremely irritating and difficult to try and enjoy the food. The dishes and service at Vin Papillion were average and nothing to rave about. The menu lacked description and the servers didn t take much dignity or interest in what was being served. We ordered four dishes, the tuna tartare, the jambon blanc, the bourgots confits and the gnocchi fritti with smoked sturgeon all of which I had to look up after because we had no clue what we were eating. Not because of the French menu, but lack of explanation. Because of the temperature my girlfriend asked the server to recommend a cold dish but the server brought out a hot grilled one instead. Ordering dessert was a wash because of the insufferable heat in the restaurant. Everyone seemed hot, but there were some tables at the front entrance that seemed not as bad. No one else seemed to be as uncomfortable as we were sitting in that little front alcove. Overall the experience was below average and this restaurant shouldn t be in your top ones to try in Montreal.
Really good food and service, but it s so cramped at the bar I couldn t get comfortable all evening. Don t sit at the bar if you don t like being inches away from your neighbor. The warm Madeline s with hazelnut mousse and the grilled calamari were the standout dishes for me.
Atmosphere, selection of natural wines, food and service always incredible! The terrace in summer is magnificent too. If you dont want to wait in line, simply arrive before 6pm. Otherwise, wait with a glass of wine and enjoy your company :) You wont regret it!
Great service even though it was very busy and the food and wine were excellent!
Really great farm to table restaurant. Incredibly fresh and veggie forward. Vibe was jumping even at our early reservation (5:30am) and we brought our 18mo old. Staff was so helpful and patient!
Hands down the best meal I ve had in a long time. Every dish was the perfect combination of flavours. The service was excellent- especially the interaction we had about which wine to choose; our server really wanted to make sure we were happy with our choices - and the atmosphere relaxed and unpretentious. Eat here. You won t be disappointed. Oh, and eat the ham and cheese - it sounds boring but
Had an absolutely fantastic night here. Phil looked after us at the bar and was incredible - so knowledgeable of the food and wine, he was a delight. I specifically asked about vegetarian options and there were many, each expertly explained to us by Phil. The wine was also excellent, all natural and delicious. Superb from start to finish!
Bad service no service at all, get completely ignored all the time even sit around the bar. Very disappointed, Wouldn t come again.
No cocktails! Other than that, really cool experience. Food was simple but cooked well and had interesting flavours. Wine list was great and the server and somm were both phenomenal at their jobs. Prices are very reasonable as well, I would definitely go back.
Don t wait, make a reservation now. The location of this little gam was a perfect setting for my daughter and I. Our server was outstanding along with the other helpful staff. Each plate was impeccably presented and the food was flavourful. This family style restaurant met all of our expectations. Vegetarian options: We enjoyed five vegetarian options and all were fantastic.
Great service and very friendly staff. We were well taken care of, but the food portions were very small and the taste of the food was pretty bland. Don t mind paying for outstanding food, but wasn t impressed with any of the dishes. Hamachi crudo was the best out of all we tried. Patio seating is also crammed. Wouldn t visit again.
Very good food and wine. Some plates are a little bit expensive for the small portion. Very good wine recommendations.
The wine is not great but the food is out of this world. Don t skip dessert! Vegetarian options: Plenty and delicious. Ask for help. Food : 5/5 |
Our server was sensational. They curated our menu and our wine selection, which elevated the already gorgeous atmosphere. The food was creative and nuanced.
The ham and cheese is a MUST order - I would come here just to eat this dish. The smoked eel dip is really special as well. Another must order! The mushroom dishes (both the one on the menu and their special of the day) were a miss. One was too underseasoned and bland. The other was just the opposite: over seasoned so that the taste of cardamom completely overpowered everything else. Exceptional blueberry tarte. Best I have ever had. Great service as well. Extremely intimate and romantic atmosphere. We had a great time!
Delicious rhubarb chicken and more. Very respectful of my many food allergies. Good wine! Pleasant terrace behind, although it is hot due to lack of draft.
This place is expensive so expect to spend but the service, ambiance, and wine are of the best quality. So happy I was finally able to come here.
This place is AMAZING! It was so good I went back two nights in a row.
Great food and wine with a relaxed vibe. We enjoyed the small sharing plates made with high quality ingredients. Great wine selection and excellent sommelier. We just described the types of wines we like and they brought out a few options for us.
Nice place for a Mel amongst friends.
An interesting restaurant! A superb menu and wine list. The atmosphere is intriguing and the service top notch. The food was very good but extremely salty. So much so, some of the dishes lack the taste of the product because of the high sodium content.
If I could give 6 stars I would. Also the chef is a g
Delicious tapas style menu. Everything tasted amazing, I particularly enjoyed the anchovie bread with compound herb butter. The service was quick and attentive and everything felt very fresh. There were a lot of interesting wine bottles options and the server did a great job with her recommendations. Id go back anytime
We love this place! This is the second time we ve dined here and both times were excellent. The food is outstanding and the staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and very helpful. We will return!
Great wine selection and delicious food. Exactly what you would expect from a high quality wine bar/resto in Montreal. A great selection of small dishes to share as well, it does get busy during prime dinner hours. We did feel a bit rushed at the end of the dinner, as the reservation was already there, but it is to be expected at a busy popular spot.
Easy five out five. Even though they were quite busy on Thursday night, the service was fantastic. The food marvellous and they accommodated me, my partner and our huge stroller in one of the sides.
Top-notch service, excellent food, attentive to food allergies, warm, relaxed, and cozy ambience
Everything was very good, quality products
Beautiful place and food. Merci
It s not a trip to mtl without visiting Vin Papillon! Very knowledgeable servers, food is always 10/10, orange wine is a MUST. Always excited to go back!
Second time for me in this restaurant and still amazed. The flavors are just wow! There were 5 of us and we all loved our experience and our dishes.
Excellent Food and Service!
We went there yesterday and the vibe was amazing! The waiter was super helpful to choose the dishes and drinks. Food was quite nice and they have great selection of wines Food
The back terrace is superb and heated, you can enjoy it even in the fall! As usual, the experience lived up to my expectations, the specials of the day were to die for, particularly the tuna and grilled Brussels sprouts. The servers know their wine list well and provide wise advice! For an evening with friends, this is the place to go!
Outstanding dishes. We ordered seven dishes and each one was flavourful with just the right amount of texture and seasoning. The room is modern farmhouse with a cozy feeling.
Uff, the food, the wine, the simple vibes. Youll feel like you just had your mind blown with genius food, right at home. Le vin papillon is a masterpiece that exudes class.
As head chef for one of Montreals great gourmet restaurants, I can tell you that Vin Papillon is the best restaurant in the city that I have tasted, period.
Best food, best wine, best ambiance. Major shout out to Phil - thank you for the best dinner!
Beginning to end a great experience. Our server was amazing and guided us through the menu.
Smooth and pleasant service Delicate and original dishes Special mention to the hot and tasty madeleines in the finale
One of our favorite meals in mtl. A gorgeous selection of vegetables (and the turkey a feature for my dining partner) all prepared in inventive ways. Most importantly they were just DELICIOUS too! The room was busy and lively, and our service and wine pairings were excellent.
One of the best meals I ve ever had!
My 3rd time going. I really enjoy the blind menu!
This was our first time there. We had heard it was a really great restaurant but ... we didnt realize it was this amazing ! Wow. I am so impressed. Every bite brings a smile ! The food is outstanding, fresh, and top quality. Pair it with their incredible selection of wine and your evening is perfect. We were sitting outside on a beautiful and cozy terrasse. The service is also outstanding. Bravo ! One of the best restaurants Ive ever been to.
Food was great, and the food selection is perfect with some wine. Great service and good atmosphere. Id definitely come back.
Excellent evening. Restaurant was busy with a good ambiance. Wide variety of dishes and no issue with accommodating different dietary requirements while still having small plates sharing experience. Dishes were seasonal and used simple ingredients as star. Wine was delicious. Service was great
Fantastic restaurant. Really creative food combinations, loved everything we tried.
What an amazing experience. By far it has automatically became our favourite restaurant. Sea urchin was fresh and delicious. The ham dish absolutely melted in my mount. Wine was amazing
Believe the hype. This place was amazing. Best meal I d had in at least a year. My server Jules who has worked there for six years recommended the chicken and mushrooms and together they blew my palate. Exactly what I wanted. Jules, you rock.
Food of exceptional quality!
It was simply delicious, and the bar service was excellent! The bartender/waiters recommendations were spot on, both for wine and food, and the atmosphere was very warm.
