Dining at Monarque was a memorable experience. We got reservations for the brasserie, which was very nice inside but more casual than a true fine dining environment, and had nice views of the kitchen. Staff were attentive and professional the whole night, and the coat check was nice. For cocktails, the Lady Marmalade was my favorite for a juicy option, or the oddjob otherwise. The spritz mocktail was a little underwhelming, and tasted more like a seltzer. Appetizers vary in size, so check with the server if you want to share. The prosciutto salad was lovely, it had just enough flavor between the salty meat and touch of dressing, and a mix of textures from the almond. Recommend the wild mushroom gnocchi as a delicious vegetarian appetizer, and the lamb with the ravioli was indulgently tender. The duck was fantastic: flavorful and perfectly cooked. The lamb was also just the right amount done, not overly heavy but rich with the sauce. The cornish hen was good, though not remarkable. I liked their rendition of bouillabaisse. I highly suggest the tarte tatin as a shareable appetizer for two or three people, it had soft spiced apples and a flakey crust. The peach cobbler was delicious, and the mango pavolva was very fresh- the mango topping was tart, which I personally much prefer. I might like the center a little more done in the pavlova. My meal here felt cohesive, and in the brasserie I could pick and choose from a variety of options. I highly recommend Monarque for a nice occasion, its also quite accessible from the underground city if you want to walk there in the winter months.

We were told about Monarque from someone we met in the Eastern Townships of Quebec. After entering, we were asked if we wanted our coats hung, which shows me they pay attention to the details of your experience. We opted for sitting at the bar and we had a wonderful bartender who not only helped us pick out amazing lunch items, but she was just pleasant. We shared a mushroom gnocchi dish (out of this world) that was super umami and grilled octopus that was the most tender either of us had ever eaten. If you're in Montreal for even only a day, as we were, please stop by Monarque. You will not regret it.

Tried celebrating a birthday dinner here and it never disappointed being heralded top 11 in Canada’s best restaurant list. The interior though is crowded but well trafficked. Some tables are near each other though so not really intimate as you may hear the chatters from nearby tables. Food was up par though with the great restaurants we have been too. Just eat with an open mind and you are in for at treat with novel but symphonic degustation.

The chic decor and attentive staff stood out. The pretzel was fantastic, hot from the oven. The octopus was good, though the chorizo was a bit strong. The steak was juicy, and the duck had nice flavors. The cheesecake was a bit dry, and the prune compote overpowered it, though the figs were fresh. Overall, the price was fair for the quality. Worth a visit!

This restaurant definitely offers an upscale dining experience, with ‘luxury’ meals that are beautifully presented. While I didn’t personally enjoy every single dish we tried (found it under seasoned or just not flavourful), I’m still glad we gave it a shot because it was a fun and unique experience. The atmosphere was elegant, and the service was okay, making it a place worth visiting if you’re looking for something special and don’t mind splurging.

This is a true culinary experience. They recommend you take one course per section of the menu but as a big group, you could easily manage two and be perfectly full and delighted. The service was friendly and warm. We even got a tour of one of the 3 kitchens! Very high end and delicious Montreal restaurant! Very recommended

I’m absolutely loving this spot! The contemporary design is sleek and modern, and the two separate salons offer a unique and intimate atmosphere. But the real treat is the food , it's absolutely delicious! And the desserts? Heavenly! They literally melt in your mouth. I'm talking swoon-worthy, can'’t get enough goodness. Whether you're looking for a night out with friends or a cozy evening with coffee, I highly recommend stopping by. Trust me, you won't be disappointed

Le Monarque is a stunning restaurant that truly stands out. Despite its large capacity, the layout is thoughtfully designed, ensuring a comfortable and intimate dining experience. My team and I were seated in a cozy corner booth (Brasserie side) with a perfect view on the kitchen, which provided a perfect balance of privacy and atmosphere. The noise level was pleasantly moderate, allowing us to have meaningful conversations without raising our voices. The service was impeccable, attentive, polite, and highly knowledgeable about the menu. Every interaction felt warm and professional. And then there s the food: simply extraordinary. Each dish was beautifully presented, with every element on the plate intentional and fresh. The flavors were vibrant and clearly crafted with care. Our holiday lunch at Monarque was nothing short of delightful, and we are already looking forward to returning. Highly recommended! Vegetarian options: Some vegetarians options gougeres, pretzels, hummus, olives, squash ravioli, Québec stracciatella and the seared broccoli. Parking: You ll find indoor parking lot at 419 Notre-Dame West, behind the restaurant. It is available on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at a cost of $12.

This restaurant offers an upscale, modern dining experience with two distinct areas: a formal dining room and a more casual bar area. Upon arrival, the host staff took our jackets, which was a nice touch. We chose to sit in the bar area since we were dressed more business casual, black pants, a black top, and a silver belt for me, and dark jeans with a blue button-up for my partner, paired with boots due to the snowy and icy weather. Unfortunately, our server was bit annoyed with us, because we weren t dressed as formally as others (he actually commented on it) . It was disappointing to feel treated differently compared to the table next to us, but we tried not to let that dampen the experience. The food was exceptional. The steak was perfectly cut and cooked to our liking easily the best we ve had in Montréal. The bass was flavorful and deliciously prepared, and the mushroom risotto melted in my mouth (my partner opted for fries which he said were crispy and delcious). We started with a cheese plate as an appetizer, which was also a fantastic choice. For dessert, we had the pear buckwheat cobbler with ice cream, which was amazing. I didn t think I d have room for dessert, but I m so glad I made it happen! I also ordered the Lady Marmalade cocktail, which was refreshing . Despite the service hiccup, the food and atmosphere made it a memorable evening. I d return for the incredible food but would dress more formally next time.

Monarque is a restaurant that impresses upon arrival with its chic and modern setting. The atmosphere is sophisticated, ideal for a special evening or a business meal. The dishes are well executed, with quality ingredients and a beautiful presentation that reflects the attention to detail. Despite the undeniable quality of the dishes and service, the culinary experience lacks that little extra that would make it unforgettable. The flavors are good, but not transcendent, which leaves an impression of controlled elegance, but without audacity. This may disappoint those looking for a memorable dining experience. In summary, Monarque is a safe address for those who appreciate careful cuisine in a classy environment. However, the value for money might be questioned by some, especially if you are hoping for an exceptional dining experience. Its good, its beautiful, but not unforgettable.

Difficult access because of traffic in the city center (but its worth the trip). The restaurant has an agreement with underground parking nearby ($12 which must be paid at the restaurant). Short walk to the restaurant. Superb interior/exterior architecture as well as lovely interior decor and furniture. 2 dining room concepts (S.A.M and Brasserie (very urban). 2 very interesting menus. We tried the S.A.M. Everything was very good, even delicious, and very nicely presented. There are wines by the glass. The prices are good, not exaggerated. The service was good and punctual despite a lot of traffic (but our server seemed preoccupied, which I will blame on the lack of experience. Welcoming host and hostess. Impeccable bathroom. for sure (among other things to try the 2nd menu).

We were pretty disappointed by our experience here. We went here for my fiancés birthday, and despite us making a note of this on our reservation, they didn t do anything to make our night feel special. The service was cold and condescending, there was hair in our food, and the bone marrow and snails dish was good except the quantity of bone marrow was a joke. The steak and lobster dishes good, but the cocktails were just okay. Overall, pretty disappointed considering how well this place is rated, and put a damper on what was supposed to be a special evening.

We went to Monarque on recommendation from a bartender at another Montreal restaurant. It s a gorgeous twinkling restaurant with delicious food and drinks. Lots of typical French stuff on menu. We started with a side green herb salad which was the perfect size for sharing ahead of our heavier entrees. If you re a fan of simply dressed excellent lettuces, this excels. We really enjoyed our bouillabaisse and steak frites. I was served the best martini I ve ever had. We went with the bartender s choice of gin from a local Quebecois micro-distillery the right move. I don t know what took me so long to even try this place. From the service to the food- everything was impeccable. Honestly for the location and quality/price, I already see myself as a being a regular by the bar. I had the beef tartare and grilled octopus. I ve been to other institutions in Montreal and I can say in my humble opinion: Monarque has the best beef tartare and grilled octopus. The beef tartare has the perfect amount of acidity and spice. The grilled octopus is tender and just the right amount of texture. Both, waiter and waitress at the bar gave warm welcoming services. I hope the management team sees this message and forwards the message to the entire team. Good job everyone.

Great experience. It s pricey but we really enjoyed it. Pretty formal and upscale vibes with a huge wine selection. We sat in the dining room (menu is very different from the bar) and had the scallop crudo, grilled sweetbreads and the cote de bouef for 2. Our server was attentive but not intrusive which was great. Did a good job of explaining the menu and helping pick a wine. Fair warning - if you get the cote de bouef you may want to consider not ordering from every course as the portion is massive! It was a perfectly cooked giant steak with really great potatoes au gratin and a simple salad. Would like to go back and try the brasserie menu as that looked excellent as well.

We went there for lunch, restaurant part. The food was excellent, I m picky and I can say that it was very good. I took : the cauliflower soup : creamy with chunks of cauliflower a little bit sour (excellent) veal cheek : extremely tender, the sauce is excellent Atmosphere is nice, not too loud even if we were in a corner, that helps. Expensive around 50$ for my share before taxes/tip, they could improve the best value. I will come back.

We came to Montreal for a short travel, we booked this restaurant for our first night Montreal dinner. We ordered dozen of oysters as our starter, juicy and fresh, there were 2 kind of oysters, we got half half. For the first round of cocktails, I asked the bartender to make me a spicy and smoky ish drink, I loved it, one sip of many flavors. We got bone marrow snails, must try, I asked for extra bread to clean the plate!! Grilled octopus with potatoes, amazing!!! Classic steak tartare, whatever ate by its own or with pommes garottes, flawless!! The second round cocktail I had Cicada( I forgot what my bf ordered) was very good. Entree!!! We had Dry aged rib eye with peppercorn sauce, a side with hand-cut fries. This was the first time tried dry-aged beef, fantastic!!!! We ordered glass of wine to pair of our rib eye. You always have room for dessert We got Passion fruit pavlova ( I saw almost every table ordered this) And Chocolat & coffee creme brulee I like creme brulee more than the passion fruit cake, it is a little bit bitter, which makes this creme brulee so unique, not like regular creme brulee, sweet sweet. Overall, 10/10

Sublime dinner in an elegant atmosphere. We celebrated my mother-in-laws birthday yesterday at the Monarque restaurant, after our late arrival in Montreal. What a wonderful surprise! The service was impeccable, with smiles and attention to detail that made this evening even more special. As for the dinner, its hard to find words because everything was so perfect. From starters, such as foie gras, bone marrow with snails and beef tartare, each dish was exquisite, impossible to choose a favorite. My husband opted for the bouillabaisse, while my mother-in-law and I enjoyed the duck confit. Being from the South-West of France, I am demanding when it comes to foie gras and confit, and here, it was a pure treat. The desserts were equally sublime. It was a memorable evening. If you are passing through Montreal, go there with your eyes closed. This restaurant far surpasses many major French brasseries.

October 22, 2024

I was disappointed with the service at this restaurant. I encountered some unprofessional behavior, which really affected my experience. A server placed my phone on the sofa while serving the plate, and during payment, the same server abruptly took the POS and bill from my hand after I entered the wrong password. This came across as quite rude. I drove all the way from Toronto and had high expectations, but unfortunately, the overall experience didn t meet them. I hope the management will consider improving their service to prevent such incidents in the future.

WE GOT RACISM in this restaurant! After our 6 hours driving away from Toronto ,we just got a horrible experience in this restaurant because we got racism. Me and my friends are four Chinese girls and this is our first meal in Montréal. The foods were okay but the waiter who was serving our table is really really really rude. First, before the appetizer came, he came and handed us the appetizer plate. My friends phone was on the table, and because it was in the way of where he put his plate, he just threw it to my friend on the chair without saying a word of prompt. Second, we drove here, so there are parking tickets on the table. In the middle of our meal, the waiter came up and without a word took our parking tickets from our table and stamped them, which was very rude and interrupted our meal. Third, when we finished the meal and prepared to pay the bill, the payment failed due to the error of entering the password for the first time. When we were about to ask him for help, he suddenly appeared from behind and grabbed the pos machine and the bill from my hand, but still said nothing. I dont know what sad thing he went through today, but the mans behavior made me and my friends feel very uncomfortable. His actions also severely impacted our impression of this restaurant and ruined our impression of Montreal. I don t think I will recommend this restaurant to any of my friends again.

★★★

The waiter is patronizing and lacks the patience to explain the menu.

October 22, 2024

Careful readers may notice that the vast majority of negative reviews come from patrons of Asian descent, for more or less the same reason. This might suggest a subtle ethnic preference for serving those who make up the majority of the restaurants clientele. The restaurant showed a clear imbalance between its strengths and weaknesses, making it less appealing compared to other restaurants of its prestige. There were no surprises - positive or otherwise -when it comes to the quality of food. The duck confit and cod were prepared well, meeting the standard of similar restaurants. The duck had a slightly caramelized exterior while keeping its tenderness and juiciness. The sweetness and mild acidity of the sauce worked well with the dish. The cod was of similar quality, meeting expectations for a French restaurant of this standing. The food, however, didn t make up for the poor service. The waiter assigned to our table was dismissive and condescending, yet acted professionally toward nearby French-speaking patrons. With us, he showed no interest in the food, never smiled, and gave us a condescending look even bringing bread twice without being asked and not apologizing for a mistake that a restaurant of this level shouldn t make. It s hard to understand the waiter s arrogance, given that the food just met the standard of similar restaurants. This kind of service doesn t fit with Montreals friendly atmosphere, and, as far as we understand, is just an exception in the citys otherwise great dining scene.

A few minutes later they came back and took the plates to another table, saying they made a mistake. ugh, thats great for the other table, on whose plates we breathed for a few minutes. Finally get our order, it was fine, nothing fancy though. They dont know how to do fish, thats for sure. At one point the sommelier serves wine and drops some in the water glass, pretends not to see it. In the end, this is not a fine restaurant. Feels like a tourist trap. Oh, and the martinis are still a cheap pour.

I was impressed by the size of the brasseries dining room and especially by the huge counter and its wall of wine bottles. The atmosphere is dynamic, you can watch the work in the kitchen through the large windows of the room. I liked the professional and efficient service, there are many employees to serve. The food menu is diverse enough to offer several choices of meat, fish and vegetables to the three of us. Everything we chose was good, starters, main courses and desserts. But nothing was very good, nor very well presented. For example, the salad that came with the lobster thermidor was hearty but really common and effortless in presentation. Or the chocolate mousse was big and tasted good, but nothing more. We found that the prices were not exaggerated but in conclusion, in the absence of wow on the plate, we had an impression of unfinished business.

Nice place and a trendy room. Food was done very well and service was efficient; however, the experience was fairly basic and a bit flat as we felt more like a transaction as opposed to guests. Better places to go in Montreal but this is a solid option if youre looking for something upscale with good food!

Vacationing in Montreal, found this Fodor s guide. Better than the description. The food was delicious, the service was great, and the atmosphere is dynamic. This is the kind of restaurant that can only be found in a great city; the number of people taking care of us was amazing. The people who work here are were fabulous. The organization is impeccable. The prices are worth the quality of service and food. You will not be disappointed.

Monarque is just something out of treasure! I just feel so awfully lucky to have sat here for one of my meals; it was simply unforgettable. First, I tasted the TOMATE, then the PARFAIT FOIE, OS A MOELLE, FARROTTO, PIEUVE, JARDIN-all masterpieces. Each presentation is amazing, daring, and vibrant in flavor. Every single bite was a balance of innovation and taste; hence much more than a meal, but a journey across flavors. The cocktails took the entire dinner to another level, and at the end, THÉS TISANES were a comfortable, chic finish to the evening. Service was immaculate: attentive but unobtrusive and contributing, thus, to the all-embracing sense of refinement. Monarque really brimming with the air of richness in class and sophistication, oozing with the touch even. That is not a restaurant; this is a destination! Highly recommended for those who want a surplus dining experience!

Nice place with nice design. The reception was very good, but service afterwards ( different person ) could improve. Food is ok, but nothing crazy, except the charbonnière cod which was above. Very expensive for what it is. I am sure the rent is expensive in this location, but food is regular and not worth what I pay for. For the same quality, there are similar places very close by, but half the price. Salle a manger dinner! Verdict : give it a try.

This was a disappointing dinner. The service and atmosphere were good but the food did not live up. I had the ribeye. It was unseasoned, too thin and really just not a very good cut of beef for the price. Other dishes were mixed. The drinks were pretty good. The presentation was good as shown by the pictures I took. But it just didnt deliver on food.

Dined in the back section. Atmosphere was a bit more formal than the front: swanky dinner. I was surprised that the menu was not completely classic French, but that there were dishes with Japanese or other influences. The dishes were all well done, nicely balanced, with a little inventiveness about them. Duck - always one of the tests - was very good. I also really enjoyed the cold scallop starter with its tomato water. Star dessert was the strawberry tart. Our waiter started out a little cool as probably matches the atmosphere but soon started engaging with us, which was nice. The couple sat next to us were having some personal drama at their table. The restaurant staff were SUPER professional about handling their table, which Im sure everyone appreciated. Not a cheap dinner but would return if I lived here.

We went to Monarque on our last night in Montreal, and we were glad we did, since no other meal measured up. We ate in the brasserie side, which is a bit more casual, with a less expensive but still top-notch menu. The servers were very attentive and knowledgeable. Everything we ate, from the bread to the ricotta cheesecake, was delicious. Highly recommended!

My partner and I drove two hours from Ottawa to Montreal because I wanted him to try Monarque for his birthday. I ve been here before, a couple of years ago, and had a wonderful experience so I was excited for him to try it - but unfortunately, our experience tonight was less than satisfactory and left me wondering how such an amazing place went sorta downhill.. let me start off my saying the majority of the food was good. We ordered the bone marrow and octopus to start, and the lamb rump and butcher steak for our mains. The bone marrow was melt in your mouth delicious and the octopus was just as great as I remembered. The lamb was also so flavourful and cooked to perfection. However, the steak was tough and not cooked to our order - we asked for medium and it was RARE. Not a big deal to us because my boyfriend still enjoys it rare. Our issues lied mainly with our server. From the moment we sat down and ordered drinks to the moment we received the cheque, he seemed miffed and like he couldn t be bothered to answer our questions or assist us with the menu and gave us attitude the entire time. My partner ordered a Diet Coke which was completely flat and tasted watered down, and we let our server know that we thought the fountain was out of syrup. He argued with us about it right then and there and told told us that it wasn t possible, he then walked away and asked the bartender about it and came back and condescendingly told us that it can t be possible it s flat since it came from a can and proceeded to argue with us back and forth trying to convince us of what WE tasted. We then asked him if he could just please just bring us the can and we can pour it ourselves. He gave us both a look of disgust and said uh ok with attitude and walked away - as if we just made a seemingly wild request. We were both so taken aback at that first interaction after only being there for a few minutes that this server was: a) trying to gaslight us into telling us what WE tasted instead of just apologizing and bringing the damn can of Coke - and b) acting as if we were bothering HIM when it s his job! the can of Coke was infinitely better than the original glass which makes us believe the can he just opened was already open and flat from the previous night. Our other issue was when we were trying to ask him questions about the menu, because I was trying to decide between two dishes, he was visibly annoyed and offered no help and just reiterated what I could already see listed on the menu again, very condescending and what I would expect from a teenager who works at a fast food place NOT a 5 star restaurant. Also, when my boyfriend ordered the steak the server asked medium-rare? We asked for medium and he seems visibly bothered again by us saying that then just said ok very short and walked away. The fries were also overly salty. My partner and I both have extensive experience in the restaurant industry and fine dining and the lack of manners and quality from our server really put a damper on our whole evening and experience and took away from our overall enjoyment of the meal. It s sad that we got better quality of service from the bus boys and host that paid more attention and interacted with us or acknowledged our thank yous AT THE VERY LEAST. So from our experience tonight, 3/4 dishes were great, but our experience with our server left us feeling both so terrible, disrespected and unwelcome we just wanted to finish our meals quickly and skip dessert and leave asap. The server also failed to acknowledge me a few times and only directly asked my boyfriend how his meal was. Do yourself a favour and go somewhere else - for these prices, find a better place with better service where the entire staff works as a team and offers the same level of quality service across the board, who values their patrons. While the busboys and host were very friendly that one server ruined our entire outlook on this restaurant indefinitely.

The food, cocktails, and wine were quite good, and we would have had a good experience had it not been for the absolutely awful, non-existant service. I wish I was exaggerating, but our waiter said maybe 15 words to us over the entire ~2 hour dinner service, only saying more than one word responses when we asked for a wine recommendation. He provided completely non-verbal responses when ordering, did not ask if we wanted to order additional drinks after our first (we had to specifically request for additional glasses of wine/cocktails), did not explain anything about the food, restaurant, or ask us anything about ourselves. Generally very unfriendly and unkind. He acknowledged our orders with a frown and a slight nod of the head every time. I wish I could tell you who specifically our server was, but he did not even bother introducing himself. He felt very hostile and annoyed he had to have to serve us. There were multiple instances where we were without drinks, meaning the restaurant lost out on additional revenue we would have spent on alcohol. After our tables second drink order, he took the wine list away and did not offer to return it for the rest of the evening, even after clearing away our empty glasses midway through the third course. After ordering red wine, the waiter poured my glass but ended up spilling a sizeable amount on the table and into the bread basket. The waiter noticed he spilled, but did not apologize or acknowledge it to us in any way, he simply walked away without a word. By the end of dessert, our last course, the waiter we had for most of the evening had not come around for 15 minutes after our plates were clearly finished and our drinks were empty. I flagged down another waiter who was walking by, who explained to me that our original waiter was gone for the night and that he was supposed to be replacing us. The original waiter did not explain to us that he was leaving for the night, and the new waiter in charge of our table did not introduce himself until I had to get his attention myself. We certainly dont expect to be treated special by any means, but this service was the literal bare minimum that could have been provided to us. It left us wondering if maybe we were under dressed and were being shunned for it (even though other waiters were happily treating other guests in tshirts and shorts), or that we had said something to offend the waiter at the start of service. Although this review is quite scathing, we are always especially friendly with wait staff and almost never complain about service, so I cannot understand what we possibly did to deserve service that amounted to rudely and non-verbally plopping the food we ordered at the table. Nobody asked us once how our food or service was. This was *by far* the worst service Ive experienced, not only in Montréal, but at any restaurant Ive ever dined at. It was such a complete shock that it came from an establishment where we expected to spend about $600 between two of us (but ended up spending less as we opted out of a cheese course and did not order as many drinks as anticipated, both due to the service). I would have been annoyed if we received service like this at a McDonalds, but at a fine dining establishment, I thought it was completely and absolutely unacceptable. We will be vehemently recommending that our friends and family who visit Montréal avoid Monarque at absolutely all costs. A completely and total disappointment from a restaurant we were very much looking forward to experiencing.

We visited Monarque by recommendation of my husband s colleague who visiting Montreal regularly. We love it! We chose to dine in its casual more affordable price point Monarque Brasserie and we visited twice as the first time was excellent! I will review both visit in 3 days apart in key areas that important to our dining experience. SERVICE The first greeting, table seating and our table service was immaculate and contributed and complemented our first dining experience at Monarque. The personnel who looked after us on Tues 23 July 24 (sorry we did not get your name) was absolutely fantastic! One of the best, and the best asset to the establishment! He was professional, attentive but not intrusive. He was helpful with the wine and frankly making us deciding to ho back 2nd time even we had many other restaurants in our wish list. We only had 5 dinners in the city and we chose Monarque twice. The second service was amiss, unfortunately. Greeting was cold, no smile, no eyes contact, took us to the wrong area of booking but all resolved. Our waiting personnel was aloof, more attentive to certain tables so we were left having to try to get his attention when we wanted to order more drinks and desserts. FOOD Classic French dishes and to-die-for desserts! We had foie gras, lamb ratatouille, canard, seafood bouillabaisse, grilled octopus and passion fruit pavlova. All 10/10. Wine list is great. We are not heavy drinker so love a few glasses of good wine and it does not disappoint. AMBIENCE A blend of modern & retro deco, warm and flattering lighting, sexy bar area with sleek bartenders. People watching here looked fun and romantic date is good (except if the service is amiss second time- wouldn t be fun). Music is good level of sound, ventilation is great. Feel airy and comfortable to be in.

The manager of the restaurant had a particularly bad attitude. He had empty tables but wouldnt let us sit at them, claiming they were reserved. We waited for a long time, but no one ever came. The manager initially said we would have to wait 25 minutes, but when the time came, he said it would be another 45 minutes and argued with me. This was by far the worst experience Ive had here, and I dont think Ill be coming back. The manager was completely oblivious to his own mistakes and continued to argue with me, which was not something that should happen in a restaurant of this caliber, even lacking the basic etiquette of a server. Furthermore, there was no apology or remorse in his response to my review, and his attitude was still very hostile. I seriously doubt that this restaurant has any tolerance for racism and discrimination.

Creative French food and excellent service The restaurant is large and busy, with a sophisticated touch. The buzz around doesnt stop you from being able to hear who is at the table. Additionally, there is a special wing downstairs that I assume is for reservations exceeding 8 people (nice that the group can have privacy) The food is very tasty, creative, with great presentations. As a recommendation, I leave the Foie Gras (sea buckthor, duck pastrami, candy cap, brioche feuilletee) which came accompanied by a small croassaint and a gelatin film (?!), delicious and extremely creative! The Ravioli was very intriguing, with each bite I could taste more flavors, high on the list of recommendations. Tuna Tartare and Green Asparagus were disappointing, they had a good presentation but the flavor left something to be desired. Olivias service should be left here as a note of great affection. She was very attentive and helped me with choosing and tasting the wine. I would definitely come back! Ps:. great visual identity Vegetarian options: Asparagus

Delicious experience, highly recommended for special occasions. We went to the dining room on a Friday night. Pros: -Excellent service from the reservation until the end of the dinner. They accepted that I made a bouquet delivered the same day to the restaurant, and to be given at the table once we sat. -The food was creative and delicious! One of the most impressive restaurants I had the chance to try in Montreal. -Portions were made perfectly for a 4 services dinner as they mentioned. We are rather small eaters, and had to push a little to finish it. -Nice ambiance inside the dining area, with mirrors all around. Cons: -More a « be aware » than a negative point: Expect around 150$ per person without alcool. However the experience is worth it. -The lamb was not to our expectations flavour wise and cooked wise. I would advise to take something else. Note: -I highly recommend the « Snow Crab Tartlet », and mostly the dessert « Strawberry & rhubarb galette » that was incredible. Parking: Private parking available behind the restaurant, underground, for a discounted price (12$) when eating at the restaurant.

I was excited to dine at the Monarque, as I had heard good things about the food. However, my night there was quite disappointing. The food was great, but the service by my server and the service manager (a gentleman in a light blue shirt) was entirely lacking. I try not to leave reviews on negative dining experiences, as they can be subjective. I am leaving this review to encourage the management to review and improve their service. I visited last Friday s late dinner service (20:45, July 5th, 2024). It was a less busy time, with quite a few empty tables. 1. We received the wrong first course. When one of the service managers (light blue shirt) came to check how our food was, I gently notified him that I received the wrong first course. He double-checked and acknowledged the mistake, but he never apologized. Instead, he made the service staff who delivered the food apologize to me, which was unnecessary. Mistakes happen. It s okay. 2. Our other first course never came. As the same service manager removed our plates and utensils, I gently notified him that I had never received the foie gras. He replied, Oh, now you want to order foie gras? Again, I gently let him know I made the order with my server and asked him to check. He checked, acknowledged the order was in place, dropped off one set of utensils without a new plate on the side of the table, and then walked away. Neither the service manager nor my server ever apologized for the mistake or how he spoke. The service should reflect if the dining costs $150+ per person. My server was barely attentive to my table, and the service managers handling of their mistake was unprofessional. I thank the other service staff again who delivered my food, changed my utensils and poured my drinks. They provided an excellent service.

Very good French dining experience! This is the second time I ve been to Montreal and the best French food I ve had so far. We arrived at 19:15 as scheduled. The restaurant has two menus, one for the bar area and one for the restaurant area, and they cannot be mixed for ordering. After seeing the first one, we directly asked the beautiful waiter to look at the recommended pictures, and then got the second menu of the unique duck confit. Then the three of us ordered oysters, beef bone marrow snails, foie gras, duck confit, and steak tartare. The menu price including 15% tax and no tip was about $240. Surprised how crowded it was on a Friday around 5:30. Didn t appear to be a seat available but were accommodated. The service was excellent. It was apparent throughout the meal there is a level of quality control and observation that is lost in most restaurants to keep the table clean of plates, refreshing of water and drinks and to inquire if anything is needed. The charcuterie board was delicious and impressive in assortment. Presentation of each dish was a small work of art. The menu is relatively small which my assumption is it s rotational and by chef s selection which keeps it interesting.

Best culinary experience of my stay in Montreal. Marrow bone/snail to die for (I still have vivid memories of the superbly reduced juice which accompanies this dish in the mouth, the creaminess of the snail/marrow assembly), perfectly cooked lobster and perfectly measured thermidor sauce so as not to not overwhelm the delicate taste of the crustacean.

We met friends at Monarque last night for dinner and drinks. The wait staff was fantastic, with a perfect measure of attentiveness - always making sure that our experience was great without getting intrusive. We sampled a number of dishes. The fries were done to perfection (gotta start somewhere); the steak tartare was extremely flavorful (a must try); we then progressed to share a dozen oysters - with fresh grated horseradish and mignonette. For mains, we ordered the special - a roasted pork shoulder served on a bed of vegetables - which took an hour to prepare. Our friends ordered the pork chop and the cuit du jour - grilled flank steak. While we waited for our mains we shared a plate of sauteed mushrooms, and another of asparagus and fiddleheads. Both were extremely tasty. The mains arrive... The lamb shoulder was... Wow. Just wow. Slow roasted to perfection, it had a crispy exterior and juicy, succulent flesh. Every taste was spectacular. We wrapped up with dessert - my wife had the ice cream sandwich, I had the creme caramel. Nice way to finish off. A great shout out to Sonia, our server, and Serge, who assisted us in making the overall experience such a pleasure.

Upscale restaurant in the older part of Montreal. The hostess was very welcoming and accommodating we had a reservation for 8pm which we were able to move forward to 7pm. We really appreciated the flexibility after a long day at the Montreal Grand Prix. We had seats at the bar which worked well for us. The bar staff were friendly & it was fun watching them work. The stand out dish for us was the Bone Marrow appetizer. The only improvement would be to add an extra slice of toast because there was too much bone marrow for just one slice. Entrees were solid at a price I d expect for a higher end restaurant. Highly recommend the passion fruit pavlova for desert. It was the right balance of sweet and tart in a huge slice.

Me and my colleagues were recommended Monarque and we werent disapointed. At first they looked fully booked but they had room for the 6 of us in the dinning room (not the Brasserie). Its worth knowing that the restaurant is split with two different menus. We were looked after by Colin who was brilliant. He was immedietly helpful explaining the menu and instantly built a great report with everyone. The food was amazing. Each dish was presented well and tasted great. I personally really enjoyed the Lobster and Monkfish and the others at the table equally loved their food with every plate left empty. At the end of the evening, Colin dealt with our difficult requests concerning the bill and how it was split with no problems. Even though it meant some quick maths were needed everything eventually was sorted out. We all left happy and were telling our other colleagues about our experience the next day. I would absolutly return when we are next in Montreal and recommend it to anyone who is visiting.

Warm atmosphere, attentive service and exceptional food. It feels like Europe, with a Quebec touch. 100% recommended.

Sat in the bar area (I recommend that over the dining room). Food was amazing. Waitress was very friendly, knowledgeable and professional. She recommended the PERFECT bottle of wine for our meals. We loved it and it reminded us why we come back to Monarque every few months. Outstanding food - Great service!

After changing our reservation from the dining room to the bistro on the recommendation of some people we met, two seats at the bar were graciously pulled out for our use. Monarque is a beautifully designed restaurant, cavernous, elegant and sophisticated, but oh so comfortable. The client is at the center of Monarques universe. Serge, incomparable, professional, and exuding warmth, was our bartender/server par excellence. He turned our dinner from a meal into a memory. Yet, Monarques kitchen doesnt allow the decor and hospitality to take center stage. The food at Monarque is trés magnifique. Yes, the menu might skew old school, but in the end, isnt it about taste? Alinea, the renown temple of creativity in Chicago, created food that was unique, but nothing tasted good. We left unhappy. At Monarque, we started with the Gougères, rarely seen in North America. They are bite sized pâte à choux made with Gruyère. They are out of this world, and I could eat dozens of em. My ocean trout tartare was the perfect palate cleanser, light and refreshing. The indulgent Foie Gras parfait, paired with toast, was creamy and delicious. For our mains, we ordered the bouillabaisse and lobster thermador. Both were amazing, large portions, and had us slurping and smacking our lips. Monarques wine list is extensive and eclectic. My martini was mixed perfectly by Joanna, another gracious Monarque bartender. Monarque is a wonderful restaurant. It isnt cheap, but its well worth the outlay. Go and have a memorable experience.
