It was a special occasion. I spoke to Chef Paul and ordered lobster thermidor, seafood bouillabaisse and the seafood paella. Everything was beautifully prepared and absolutely delicious. The lobster thermidor was to die for, what a treat. The seafood bouillabaisse had big chunks of salmon, several shrimp and scallops and a piece of lobster, it was wonderful. Chef Paul delivered the food himself and took the time to explain how to reheat the food. It was an excellent experience and one that I hope to repeat in the near future.
Quite expensive, quality generally good. I will try to give them the benefit of the doubt that they made a mistake on my most recent visit when I was charged for organic when I ordered and was served a regular item. Realized when I got home. Didn’t make me want to go back. Kind of a shame. Anyways it’s the only place in the area to get such a variety of fish so it has got that going for it. Just be prepared for some sticker shock
As the ancient Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu once said, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” Well my wife and I were craving for some fish and we happened to be walking along Sherbrooke Street in Westmount. We could not find a river or lake anywhere on the street and we also didn’t have any fishing equipment with us, so we decided to visit Poissonnerie Sherbrooke instead. The amazing variety of fresh fish and seafood on display was mind boggling. We finally chose the Striped Bass fillet which we brought home and enjoyed tremendously. So even though we did not learn how to fish, we did learn that Poissonnerie Sherbrooke is a great place to go shopping for fish.
This place was my favorite fish monger. It's super cool to see they brought Chef Paul back but I have some issues with my two recent visits. 1. I tried using a service they advertise to do deliveries. There was no option to select skinless/boneless when using this service so I called Poissonerie Sherbrooke who told me and I quote "all of our fish are skinless/boneless". This service didn't end up working out so I went to the store to spend $300+ on fish and sure enough, all of them had skin and bones. 2. Most recently, I purchased lobster meat in a container so that I could make lobster rolls with friends. A significant portion of the container had to be tossed aside because they still contained shells. If I'm spending $200+ on lobster meat, how is this is even possible? The meat itself wasn't that great either, disappointing. Anyhow, I don't know what is happening here but the service I've received ain't great either. For premium pricing, I think I'm going to consider alternatives going forward unfortunately.
I had the privilege of tasting a lobster roll and it was truly divine. Each bite makes you crave for another. The place is clean the fish so fresh as Mark Cere the owner takes pride in serving the very best quality fish and seafood to each and everyone of his valued customers. Mark is so nice and is passionate about his seafood .I highly recommend this place for those who want a ready made seafood meal or for those looking to cook a succulent fish dish!
Cool store with an amazing selection of seafood! We had a freshly made lobster roll that was phenomenal. The staff were really nice too!
Bad lobster roll at a steep price Poissonerie Sherbrooke has been my go-to place for a lobster roll the past few years. Being there already, I would occasionally buy other fish products. My impression was that it’s a pricey shop, compensated partly by the quality. But to me it was really about their lobster roll, which was quite satisfying. Unfortunately, not the case the case anymore. When I bought a roll last week, it was quite a let down. Not only the fill was lacking in quantity, the taste was bland, probably because the lobster meat has been hanging around for a while. The sandwich was not grilled, not buttered. All in all, a big fat no. For the price of $25+tax, one expects to have a nice bite. Not this. Moreover, to my surprise I discovered that Lucille’s stand at Atwater market sells them for $16+tax. So, I’ve got a bad one and at an inflated price too. I returned there recently, to give them a chance to remedy this disappointment. The person at the cash was rude and not perceptive. Some places that used to be good sometimes get complacent over the years, and its workers can become arrogant. Seems to be the case here. Pity.
This is by far the best fishmonger in the city. There is always a great selection with the freshest fish. The customer service is excellent. We ordered an assortment of fish/seafood for our New Year’s feast, and they did not disappoint! Quality, deliciousness and the best customer service! Thank you!
Great store,wonderful service
Its ok
Delicious lobster roll
A beautiful fishmonger/delicatessen in Westmount where you can find everything, especially their fresh seafood and they are perfect for a seafood platter or for preparing sushi The staff was nice and friendly. They have a small bar for eating on site, where they prepare sandwiches...
The lobster and tiger shrimps were first class.
Consistently excellent quality fish for the last few decades I have bought fish there. Update July 2024: lowering the rating from 5 to 3 stars to reflect the decline in quality of product and service the last few times my wife or I have been there.
Super bon sandwich Lobster Rolls
Nice staff, food quality is good, always had a good service
Fantastic quality, reasonable price, friendly staff. Highly recommend
Great service
I bought some salmon and scallops excellent quality. Friendly service. The place was clean and well organized. The counter was stunning with a great selection. Definitely will be coming back!
Sadly I wanted to love this place. This is my 3rd visit and I won t be going back. Unwelcoming service, overpriced and seafood is a hit or miss. Squid was great the first time and then terrible the next. This time clams were poor quality. Too bad I have to find another spot in the neighborhood.
Fantastic service and very fresh quality food
Unfriendly and unhelpful staff. Overpriced and freshness is a hit and miss. I will never go back.
Our favorite place to get the freshest fish and seafood.
Always clean and tidy, staff are kind and attentive and unpretentious, fish is fresh, nice and easy collection of food items as side dishes and neat condiments. Reliable and nice atmosphere
Nice seafood store with plenty of choice. Expensive
By far the best fish market in Montreal! Everything is of superb quality and the service is very helpful. They also have a great variety and everything is always very fresh. Best place to go in the city.
Excellent fishmonger. Always very fresh and good service.
13 by the dozen or how to recognize a good fishmonger
Great variety, and the advice Ive gotten from them has been solid. Service is a bit taciturn or gruff, though, and the prices are ridiculously high. Still, their hours are convenient, and I normally find what I need there.
Great service ! Excellent quality ! Tks Chef for perfect lobsters well prepared.. my daughter s birthday was a success!
Great selection of seafood
The person on the counter was not welcoming and showed no patience.
Non-existent customer service! Exorbitant prices and lack of freshness, I wouldnt go back.
Excellent selection of fresh fish!
We ordered a meal for 20 that was exquisitely prepared, complete with fresh fish dishes, vegetable platters and delicious salads. The presentation was lovely and the food was abundant. Definitely recommend!!
The pea soup was the best I have ever had. They took a classic Quebec staple known for its nutrition and comfort and made it a little lighter and even more delicious. The spicy lentil soup was also the best I have ever had for similar reasons. When I spent three weeks in Nepal years ago, we had lentil soup every day so I thought I had seen every possible way it could be done but I was wrong! This was the perfect combination of comfort, nutrition, spice and density. Fascinating how they can master a Quebec classic and one from the Himalayas at the same time.
Nice variety of products. Friendly staff! And the lobster roll is amazing. Worth the price, very generous portion.
I discovered La Poissonnerie Sherbrooke - Delicatessen two weeks ago. Great discovery! Their fresh fish and seafood all looks really, really fresh. Then, they have a food counter prepared by a starred chef. Their fish soup and squid and seaweed salad are real delights. Its worth the detour. It seems that their paella is extraordinary. I can not wait to return to. Congratulations to Chef Paul for his excellent cuisine and to Marc Céré, the owner, for his commitment to offering seafood of the highest quality. See you soon!
Their friendly owner, fresh products... with taste, good prices in the Westmont sector Nice.
I spent over $30 on a piece of organic salmon, after being told they just got it in that morning. I asked to have it cut in 4 pieces. When i got home, and removed the brown paper I saw it had been mangled. It looked like the person had never cut fish in their life and cut it using a dull butter knife! The first piece was not cut straight and had a jagged edge. Then the middle part was cut lengthwise along the middle instead of horizontally... to add insult to injury or didnt taste fresh at all! Dont waste your money.
Knowledgeable and helpful staff. A huge variety of fine grocery products, some hard to find elsewhere. A small kitchen near the back does fresh seafood meals. Dont be in a rush, but the fish and chips is absolutely worth the wait.
Great friendly staff!! Call ahead if you want your oysters opened for you fishes were fresh !
Rude staff, dont give the customer time.
Is best fish store in Montreal
Good oyster
Always fresh product here!!
Fresh fish and seafood, and also already prepared to eat.
Not good if youre in a rush, Great Calamari!
Super helpful and pleasant staff with darn good seafood.
Very dependable & fresh!
I had a diarrhea after their pokebowl
Lots of fresh choices and advice from behind the counter
A magnificent and very well received fishmonger. Thank you Marc the oysters were delicious.
The seafood was fresh and tasted great. Good variety and pleasant staff.
Really excellent quality of seafood, including oysters, scallops and shrimp. Extremely fresh products and friendly staff giving very good advice. The products may seem expensive, but exceptional quality and freshness come at a cost. Has no equal in the neighborhood.
Great service, special thanks to Marc the owner
The man that worked there gave me great advice on which fish I should use to impress my girlfriend on our second date. And it worked were still together now. Till this date its our favorite place to get our fish
Very clean. Appetizing and lots of choice
Reliable, quality seafood and service.
Must have been a bad batch. Both the shrimps and the scallops had to be returned on account of the smell. Of course its never easy to bring back bad products, and they were not very friendly!
I truly recommend this store! They have a great variety of fish and very fresh! My favourite is monk fish and wild salmon. Great service too.
Great selection of fresh fish and seafood, surprising variety of seasonings and sauces.
Always fresh. Impeccable service. One of the best fishmongers in Quebec. They always have shelled lobster for people in a hurry, or lazy people!
Make your own lobster rolls! Precooked and already shelled
They are always listening. If you need a certain grade, they wont mind taking the time to go back and look for the freshest possible.
Much closer than a drive to Maine and my husband absoluty loved it! Best takeout lobster sandwich ... ever!
Very pleasant and generous staff.
Bought two bags of mussels in the afternoon to cook the next day evening, they said that itll keep well in the fridge inside an open bowl for two days. They were spoiled by lunch time next day. I have a good working fridge and it would be unusual that food spoils in my fridge. Prices are on the higher end, and at least the swordfish steak was fresh and comes from the Maritimes.
Fresh always..
Amazing selection of fresh seafood. Go to spot for nice big scallops, salmon for tartare... Also, the best taramosalata in town!
Best fish market in the city.
Excellent Fish - I have never been disappointed !
Good
a website with the address in French and the rest in English not very easy to understand so goodbye I would go to one who is making an effort
Great quality of fish and seafood
Great service with a smile and very high quality seafood.
Very good service
Always fresh fish, pleasant service
Celebrated my 75th with oysters, lobster bisque (amazing!) and lobster from this store extraordinary! Had some delivered for my husband and me and the same delivered to our daughter s family so we could FaceTime to celebrate this special birthday despite the pandemic!
The fish is absolutely divine, its fresh and tasty. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The selection is vast. They also sell other groceries and sushi accessories. The only drawback of this store is the prices, its not cheap. The quality mostly makes up for the high prices, but be prepared to spend a bit more than you might expect. That said, you will absolutely love the taste and consistent quality of their fish.
Very nice store everything is fresh and staff is friendly and accommodating. Bought some nice blue crab meat and making crab cakes. Decent prices too!
the staff is extremely helpful and pleasant :) shout out to Alex for his kindness and taking the time to answer all of my questions. food was amazing. Lobster was done to perfection, and the shrimp is divine! this place is a touch more pricey than other fish markets, but the freshness and quality is worth it!
Nice selection of products but very expensive Dangerous access for elderly people and reduced mobility The staff does not smile easily
Fishmonger on busy Sherbrooke West. The small store offers a lot of variety and a sandwich counter in the back for those needing a sandwich on the go. Place is nice and clean and so far all my purchases have been spot on. Theres some other grocery items as well. Street parking only. Not wheelchair accessible.
After trying a few different places, I found this to be the best fishmonger in Montreal by far. I went there looking for quality fish for ceviche and ended up with delicious, amazingly fresh fish that my guests were raving about for days. I went back for raw-grade fish a few times after that and had the same amazing results. Very consistent quality! If a fish is not fresh enough to be eaten raw, they won t even bring it into the store, let alone sell it to you. This gives me a lot of confidence in an area that I previously found tricky (raw fish). I was blown away by the freshness, but also by the professionalism and level of knowledge of the staff. I m particularly thankful to Sergei for all the tips on preparing and storing the fish, and even some recipe tips that were very useful and much appreciated. He s a really good resource and an asset to the store and its customers. Thanks!
Expensive but with good variety
Good Stuff
Great fish monger with knowledgeable staff and high quality products.
On the check mark
Pricy but great service
Rapid service, fresh products. I can t comment on how prices compare because I so rarely purchase fish, but the choice was greatly varied. The place buzzed with local customers too.
Great selection of both fresh seafood and of good quality groceries. Staff are very nice and gave my friends and I a small container of corn starch for free when we only needed a couple tablespoons. I dont know if Ill ever have a chance to go back, its not often Im cooking in Montreal, but if I ever need fish, this will certainly be the place to go.
Beautiful fishmonger, clean and well organized. The fishmonger present knows his fish well, their origin and the type of farming/fishing. It is possible to call one hour in advance to have your order prepared. They receive fish every two days. There are also many very interesting related products. The last star would have been awarded if there had been more choice of organic fish.
Crunchy and tender smoked salmon... a pure delight... The halibut is very tasty. Very nice welcome. Many thanks.
Super friendly staff. Fish is super fresh and they have everything you could possibly need to go with the
Very impressive. Super fresh seafood
Best fish selection, friendliest staff
New owner is very good Nick man behind the counter is amazing fresh seafood every day
Was there this afternoon to pick up some Giant Tiger Shrimp and some Lobster claws (out of shell). Dinner tonight was AMAZING!!!! Was my first time there and I will definitely be returning. Its Westmount...how can the quality be wrong, right!
Fantastic selection and service. Expect to pay premium pricing for it though.
Terrible costumer service.
Friendly staff, quality fish and seafood, prices vary, but also a nice selection of specialized products !
Really good. Great variety
Nice people & great selections.
Fantastic fish and fantastic people.
Excellent quality fish, delicious lobster roll!
Variety of fish but too expensive, they should lower the prices a little to have more customers.
Great costumer service and fresh sea food
Excellent oysters and good service
Good, fresh fish, Costa always takes care of me,since I am not a fish connoisseur.
Best seafood in Montreal
Omg, this is my go to poissonnerie. The product has a high turnover rate, and hence you always get fresh product. The shrimp are The best in the city. The tuna is better than any I have ever found, anywhere. The staff are great, and the boys behind the fish counter are No 1.
Great staff great food amazing experience!!!
Sold $30.a pound black cod, and was guaranteed it would not smell up my house, well three days later, the smell lingers. I wouldnt say anything if it was the first time but unfortunately, they have lied to me to many times. The fact that you need to go out of your way to get there, since there is no parking, you would think that they would be more honest with their customers. Very disappointed!
My go to fish market!! Fresh seafood and a fun experience. I always get great service and recommendations. Feels good to be able to go to a trusted place and know that I ll come out with something super tasty!
La Poissonnerie Sherbrooke is part of my Sunday ritual! I love the little treasures in my neighborhood, including this one! The service is friendly, the product perfect. Go take your tour!
They didnt clean the oysters well
Very nice neighborhood business. The variety of fish is impressive and the freshness is always there. Lots of homemade products (salmon mousse, tzaziki, smoked salmon, seaweed salad...). Kosta, the owner (father and son) is very nice. Weve been regulars for over 10 years!
Good choice and good service.
Super good fish spot! So happy with the salmon! Staff was very helpful and informative. Everything seems fresh. No terrible smells in the place. Lots to choose from.
Love the fish and chips
Great Lobster!!! Going back for more.
a bit pricier.. probably because of location. but products are fresh. service was prompt. staff very friendly and helpful.
Great selection and really always fresh. Never had a bad fish from them. Even little grocery section offers fresh items.
Awesome place
They have great fresh seafood and the staff is very friendly and helpful!
Fish is fresh. Ready to eat food is okay, would get it more for convenience than taste. Then again, its not a restaurant.
Super friendly staff. Fair prices
Their fried squid is divine
Fresh fish and a great selection. Ready to eat foods (fish and chips, soups) are always tasty. Cauliflower rice was a great side dish to my filets of red snapper. The Owner is a first-rate professional. Staff is always friendly.
Just fantastic fish and fantastic people.
Great fresh seafood, friendly honest service.
Friendly staff and knowledgeable.
Helpful and knowledgeable staff!
Good store to buy sea food.
Super West End fish market
Great friendly service. The price is what you expect for the quality of their goods. Best fish store in the area as well as the hard to find spices and cooking goods.
Great place in the neighbourhood to get fresh fish and other groceries. Kosta knows his stuff and makes great recommendations. Dont hesitate to come here!
Expensive but nice selection of fish, vegetables and prepared foods.
Great for lobster! They cook And crack them too!
Very nice fishmonger
Expensive, but the fish is amazing!
Great selection of fish both fresh and frozen. Knowledgeable staff. Prices on the high side.
