Fish and seafood fine dining restaurant Est. 1934
Excellent service from staff and owner. Food is great as well. Ambiance is cozy and nice. Pancake dessert is superb!
Comfortable environment with friendly staff. I love the food here a lot. One of my best dinners in Canada. Highly recommend it if you visit Montréal !
Incredible food!!!! I would recommend this restaurant to everyone! From the delicious food to the amazing service to the welcoming by the owner. More than dinner it’s an experience!
The lobster roll, the spicy crab dish, shrimp cocktail and famous pudding were excellent. You should also ask for the habanero secret sauce. The owner welcomes everyone and his son was very friendly. Great food and great service!
Service was fantastic. Eating out can be difficult with having an allergen but our server made sure everything that came out was something I could eat. He went above and beyond to make sure I was able to have my meal worry free. Food was fantastic and one of our favorite places we had while on vacation.
What an amazing experience!! My Father and I visited Chez Delmo for dinner, and the hospitality, ambiance and the food was an absolute experience!! William and Benoit are my new best friends, and I highly recommend Chez Delmo if you love great seafood and great people!!
We had a wonderful dinner at Delmo. We were warmly greeted and helped with our coats. It was early and the restaurant was nearly empty but it filled rapidly, including a large corporate party of ten that caused us to move to the bar to finish our meal. The staff was completely accommodating and understanding. No issues with timing. I had a great combo of delicious endive salad followed by a perfect, very meaty lobster bisque. A Petit Chablis was a great accompaniment. My husband says his poached salmon was perfect—a rare compliment. Staff could not have been nicer to tourists from Chicago!
Great seafood restaurant! Pricey but top quality, fresh ingredients and generous portions. The greeting is fast and professional, the service is efficient and friendly. Overall a special place, a family owned restaurant, the interactions between the owners and their children are hilarious and makes the atmosphere very special. Arguably the best seafood restaurant in Montreal, certainly the oldest, just a 3 minute walk from the Notre Dame basilica in the Old Port. As you come in you are greeted by one of the owners through of the bar section, where you can see the original stools and lamps from the 1930s. You get the feel of a classic neighborhood joint, full of regulars, very busy. The cocktails are generous (6 oz martinis). They have an outstanding seafood tower, very festive . The seafood pasta is outstanding. The Dover sole Meuniere is the house specialty, and it's the best i've had anywhere. Interestingly, we ordered 12 oysters but were served 13. The server William explained that they traditionally serve a "bakers dozen", 13 oysters. The staff is super friendly and professional, and the owners are charming. Strongly recommend, overall a great value.
Cozy and quaint restaurant with wonderfully friendly and engaging employees no pretense at all and we loved our meals seafood pasta and shrimp cocktail was delicious husband and daughter became addicted to their bread and butter! We enjoyed the experience so much thank you for recognizing our daughter s birthday, also!
Warmly welcomed with a smile by the boss. Well installed in a beautiful room, calm and chic atmosphere. The menu is varied, with fish, seafood and meats. Beautiful cocktail and wine lists. The dishes served hot were well presented, plentiful and very good. Special mention to the waiter David: very good contact, friendly and efficient. To recommend with your eyes closed!
An excellent restaurant Impeccable service with the server at the TOP! (Gauthier I think who is great) A gentle and pleasant experience before my operation... Thank you very much for your welcome and your service. And we will come back Without fail! Your customers from Saint Félix de Valois!!!!
Really??? We had an issue with an item and the Owner resolved it followed up as expected - no harm no foul. But I have to say after that resolution we were treated by the waitstaff as if we had leprosy. After the table was partially cleared, we waited for someone, anyone, to check in or offer a dessert menu..finally after 20 minutes we had to go chase the server to get one. Let me say, the restaurant was less than half full, so no excuse there. The Tiramsu was good, dish cleared, and were back to leprosy status again....waiting another 20 minutes and completely ignored again, so we chase down the waiter again for the bill. Really wanted to let the owner know how disappointed we were but he seemed to have developed a singular chatty patty focus on 2 gentlemen seated at the bar. Finally got the bill after 25 minutes..and the waiter snatched the bill from my hand. Very very disappointed in the staff. About the food, the French onion soup and lobster bisque were very good but the walleye, a flakey white lake fish, was so over salted it was nearly inedible...and thats why the food is rated a 3....The waiter was terrible, the food was just ok... Will not go back ..EVER!!!
In Montreal for 1 night and Chez Delmo was recommended to us by our hotel concierge when we inquired about a local place to eat that had great seafood. The only reservation for 2 available was at the bar and we were ok with that. In the end I am so grateful we dined at the bar as David made our experience all that much better. He was very educated on the menu, made excellent recommendations, made sure his team paid attention to all the small details and had great conversation with us. It was fun watching him mix drinks and I admired his skill, so much so that I had to order a martini after watching him expertly make them. The lobster bisque was chalked full of succulent lobster in a lovely broth. We had beef tartare, which I generally hate but absolutely loved, and oysters to start. My husband had the catch of the day (halibut) while I dined on the creole crab. Everything was superb. We met the owners and heard some of the history of Chez Delmo. It is nice to see such pride in ownership. We definitely do not regret dining here and would make this a staple when we visit.
The service is passable but for the price and the quantity you get on your plate its not worth all that. I give it a star because the waiters are still nice but for the rest... I should have gone to the Greek casa I would have gotten my moneys worth. after the famous restaurant I was still hungry and it had cost me $325 with the guy its really rubbish. the flight parcel frankly the service of I dont really know what the government should close them thats calls stealing tourists.
Magnificent restaurant, the team is top notch and the owner was able to welcome us from the moment we arrived until the end. Good advice, great wine list, exquisite meals and, above all, great atmosphere. The dishes are generous; seafood pastas.. more seafood than pastas.. and for my lobster club... a whole lobster in the club is sick! My girlfriend and I will come back as soon as possible. Thank you again for this evening!
My wife and I dined at Chez Delmo twice, while on vacation. A truly exceptional experience in all ways. The lobster bisque is to die for. Had a great time with Benoit, the co-owner, who was pleasant company.
Chosen at random due to Montréal a Table, Chez Delmo will now be a permanent fixture on my itinerary anytime I m in Montréal. I almost melted off my chair at the first bite of veal - perfection - and the maple pudding - I was speechless. The prix fixe menu was stunning; perfectly proportioned, and the wait staff well able to make recommendations. The bar tenders have a sense of urgency and timeliness, the drinks are well made and delicious, and overall, everything comes together for an unforgettable experience I will be raving about for months. Thank you William and Benoit for a wonderful evening
Very delicious, service very good.
Came in for a late lunch and was so impressed!! Well done, Benoit!
All of our courses were excellent. The scallops were especially delicious, prepared perfectly. The service couldnt have been better, the server was was very kind and attentive. We would definitely return. .
Nothing but the best here - food, service and A1value for sumptuous food. We go when we visit Montreal and wish we had anything this close to awesome in Toronto!
Amazing family run Montreal institution! Great food, great staff. Must must!!!
Discovery of Chez Delmo this evening for us, what a lovely welcome, and what delicious cuisine! The oysters are delicious, the cocktail shrimp are tasty, and the scallops are excellent! We will definitely come back! Thank you to Benoît and David for your generosity and your warm welcome
Wow! All I can say is wow. The lobster roll that I just had is going to be in my dreams now. Update: Ive been coming back here for a long time now, its getting better and better and better... Love the food...I fly here for this meal. The Quebec oysters are the bomb!
Where do I start? The restaurant advertises their signature dish as Dover sole. I love Dover sole and order it whenever it s on the menu. The restaurant did not have Dover sole. Unbelievable that the signature dish was unavailable!! The website also brags about the lobster bisque. Guess what ? Not available. Settled on the ribeye . Quotes because I have never experienced such a thin ribeye! Looked more like a skirt steak without the taste! Probably one of the most tasteless steaks I ve ever had at a restaurant. Had to ask the girl filling the waters if we could have some bread. Why would I think the waiter would take care of this? There are so many better options in Montreal
Excellent food and excellent service by Nicolas.
Food wasnt bad but maybe a bit underwhelming for the price. Cocktails were good.
Fantastic, dedicated staff, excellent service, beautiful atmosphere. My Club Sandwich with 1.5lbs of Island Lobster.. Wow!
Top notch service and great food. We went there on our wedding anniversary and were delighted by the overall experience.
Visiting chez delmo was a weird experience. When you visit the website, you expect a bright seafood lovers paradise driven by a long tradition over the many years this restaurant has been open. Badges galore as we scroll on the website as they are a top 3 Montreal seafood restaurant, hence you book a table with creditcard guarantee which enhances the expectations even more. Come dinner night, you enter what can only be described as a sports bar with two tv screens playing sports in a otherwise dark, loud and cheap looking place because of the furniture. So far the ambiance. Service is top with all waiters friendly and giving advice where needed. On to the food. Fish and chips were really nice. Lots of flavour in the batter and fresh made tatare sauce. Main was the seafood pasta which, as signature dish, at 75$ cad a plate was a expensive dish for half a (very small) lobster tale, two scallops, 2 shrimps and 4 very small mussels. The dish went for a smokey flavour but ended up leaving a burned aftertaste with every bite. I would not recommend, especially if I compare a 350$ cad bill at the end of the evening.
Cozy place, cozy atmosphere perfect for a loving couple, warm welcome and ultra-mastered cuisine.
On vacation, I wanted to taste lobster and I found the ADDRESS to fulfill this wish. Excellent welcome and service, refined cuisine, pleasant setting in an old Montreal institution. Special thanks to Adrien for his advice and kindness. Successful evening
Good service , delicious foods !
Amazing food and service
Very good: excellent golden
Quiet and service and food was great.
Excellent!!!! Impeccable food and environment. Pouding chomeur is a must.
Way over priced for the quality of food that they give you. We had some of their most expensive seafood plates and none of them were good enough for the price that they re charging in quality presentation or taste. I was very disappointed, As I had Much higher expectation of this place. Will not recommend it to anyone , there are much better options for this price.
Exceptionnal night at without any doubt one of the best restaurants in Montreal. The chef is truly a master of his art! The service is great: the staff is young but devoted and has an admirable attention to details. Great vibes and an experience we wont forget!!
Fabulous! Thats the word Id use to describe one of the oldest and best restaurants of Montreal, Chez Delmo. Havent been here for a while since we live in Europe with my wife, but every time its is always a pleasure to be greeted by Benoit and his wonderful team. The food is always good, this time Ive tried their new Lobster Club sandwich (btw the best sandwich I ever had) and my wife ordered the Seafood Tagliatelle, which she adored. The waiters were super nice and professional as expected, and the owner recognized us and spent a good 15 mins talking to us at our table, which was lovely. I recommend without hesitation!
I was passing by the restaurant with my husband a few days ago and we were looking for someplace to eat with a great atmosphere. We were charmed by its looks even from the street point of view, so we decided to give it a try. And we werent dissapointed! The ambiance of the Delmo is at the same time both class and warm, and its exactly the type of restaurants that I like the most. Great selection of seafood, some vegetarian options too (even off-menu, you can just tell the waiter youre vegetarian and the kitchen will do something special for you) and a very good service. I recommend without a doubt and will come back for sure! Vegetarian options: We told the waiter that Im vegetarian and the chef made a special dish that is not on the menu just for me, the tofu columbo, and it was just delicious!
Wonderful place ! Best seafood in Montreal. Great staff, makes you feel at home !
One of the best dinning experiences I ve had in awhile! Cozy ambiance, friendly staff and delicious food! Food
Best seafood in Montreal. Fresh. Magnificently prepared tender fish probably steam-oven cooked. Friendly and very welcoming atmosphere. Strongly recommended.
We randomly stopped for lunch and were not disappointed! Oysters were delicious. The set lunch menu is a great deal, and in our case, included snails, Vol-au-vent of lobster and shellfish and raspberry mousse - all prepared perfectly. Highly recommended.
Amazing seafood and steak, very attentive to detail and aware of allergens. Some good gluten free options are the grilled scallops, and the shrimp cocktail they can give you a mayo instead of the cocktail sauce.
Highly recommend Chez Delmo. The staff and management went above and beyond to accommodate my food allergy. I appreciate how easy they made it for me. The food was amazing and atmosphere was perfect. We went for dinner after a long day. If you have a food allergy make sure to reach out to the restaurant to give them a chance to prepare for your visit. Will definitely keep Chez Delmo in mind for our next trip to Montreal. Dietary restrictions: My food allergy is complex and they handled it perfectly. I was able to enjoy the food with my family. Most importantly I did not get sick. Greatly appreciate all the thought that went into making our meal perfectly delicious.
Great fun and a delicious meal.
We would like to express our deep gratitude to David for his exceptional service and kindness during our meal at the restaurant. Your attention to detail and professionalism went a long way in making our dining experience memorable. Thank you for your dedication and passion for your profession. We are grateful to you and we hope to have the opportunity to return soon to enjoy your delicious creations again. With all our gratitude,
The best restaurant seafood in Montreal
Great restaurant! Special mention for the owner, his son William and the waiter David for their friendliness and kindness. We had a great time and the food was excellent! We will come back for sure
Nice family run restaurant in Montreal
We had an excellent experience here. The service was wonderful and the food was delicious. Lobster Thermidor was incredible as was the Walleye and Steak Tar Tar. The cocktail menu is full of classics that are executed very well. The Vespa Martini is worth going here for alone. Great atmosphere and the staff really made us feel welcome and appreciated.
We were very well received and well served here, the dishes were succulent and excellent. My father and I had the sole menière and the snow crab. I recommend!
I received excellent service from David who was friendly and very courteous. I would go back and ask to be served by him again. The fish and chips were ok but rather simple in presentation, a coleslaw or a side vegetable would have been appreciated. I will go back and try another dish
Overpriced little amount of food for not reason, please people go somewhere else, dont get fool going to this restaurant!
Spend 300 for two little plates of flavorless food and two mojito, this places its literally a scam, people please try going somewhere else dont waste your money at this place, overalls the waitress were fine!
I came for my party with my girlfriend. We had been craving seafood for ages... we started with two Delmo Caesar spiced just right with a giant shrimp on top, they were delicious! We shared the snow crab to begin with the boss recommending this dish, specifying that the season was very short and that we had to take advantage of it, first experience for me it was completely shelled it was incredible we just had to dig into it. plate without having to get our hands dirty... We shared the seafood tower afterwards, oysters galore, salmon tartate, scallop ceviche, whole lobster, giant shrimp, crab... and a home fries (best fries of my life by the way) to accompany it all. The servers are attentive, take the time to chat with you and super friendly! I hope to come back very soon, I wont wait for my next party to come back, thats for sure! thank you to the whole team!
Awesome atmosphere, great service and incredible food
I recommend this restaurant
Great food and service is excellent.
Best sea food in old port montreal!!! All their preparations are amazing, specially the lobster rolls. And the owner is super cool and really take care of his customers!! I cant wait to go back there and eat again...
It wasnt bad, but nothing more. At $75 for a plate of pasta, I expected much better! The service was pleasant, but quite long.
The pandemic has curtailed my restaurant experiences in the last two years however, I was exuberant to receive an invitation to Chez Delmo recently. It was my third event there in as many years! The atmosphere was unique, elegant and charming and the the sitting arrangements allowed for privacy as well as maximum comfort. We were fortunate to be served by William who headed the service. What an extraordinary young man! Knowledgeable, courteous, efficient, skilled, and so entertaining! The meal was mouthwateringly delicious.....had the endive salad as well as the Lobster Roll which easily rivaled those I used to enjoy in Maine. Sumptuous! The host, Ben Dessureault was assuredly an exceptional individual....inclusive, informed, witty and elegant. I urge all to partake of this experience! There are so few things that come with an assurance, and this is one of them! What a wonderful way to spend the evening!
The seafood was some of the freshest seafood I ve ever tasted especially the mussels! The Canadian bread pudding was spectacular!
Cant remember when I had a better meal! Seafood was awesome, service was awesome, thanks Andre!
Absolutely delicious and unexpected from the cocktails, wine, beers, starters and entrees. I truly mean that. My wife and I have traveled across 25+ countries and I come back to this one as my most favorite! Adam surprised me with his modern yet simple twist on classic cocktails and Benoit helped to encourage me to a fantastic meal. After many visits in Montreal, this is by far my most memorable restaurant/friendly experience.
Come and enjoy this beautiful culinary experience! Excellent !
The Best excellence, service and food I highly recommend
- excellent service throughout the evening and also on days leading up to it when the reservation required modifications - entire staff was friendly and knowledgeable - snow crab salad was one of the highlights and worth trying in season - peaceful and friendly ambiance
A superb dinner. Excellent service as always.
The scallops were excellent - the classic crème de tomate has always been great over 40 years of me going regularly to Chez Delmo! I highly recommend this restaurant
Excellent in every aspect actually. Every dish offered on the menu is superbly done and presented. Certainly deserves a 5 stars review. Food : 5/5
We randomly stopped in for a drink and had a delightful time talking to the owner Benoit for over a half an hour- very friendly and interesting. The drinks were delicious and the tomato cream soup was incredible. Merci! Beautiful atmosphere too. We will definitely be back for dinner.
Best restaurant in Montreal for fish and seafood.
Good experience, it was very quiet and the meal was very good. Even if its more seafood specialties, the piece of meat with fries was excellent. Perfect cooking and seasoning. I should be able to come back and try more dishes on the menu because it was quite limited here with just one dish.
Such an amazing restaurant
Exceptional service (thanks David)! The food was excellent, as was the preparation and presentation. We werent expecting it but even the fries were amazing! To visit!
Everything was nice, we even got some small history about the restaurant and some interesting facs from one of the owners, very nice people. Delicious food!
Very arrogant owner who shouts at his employees without embarrassment in front of customers! Very ordinary cold food and extremely long service for both food and drinks. Extremely high price compared to the quality of the food. I will never return to this place. The only positive point is that the servers did everything possible to make the experience as painless as possible, well done to them!
My wife has a few allergies, the chef was not accommodating what so ever which was ok, we decided our mains and ordered a shrimp cocktail for an appetizer, we were then told the chef could not make the shrimp cocktail which is shrimp and a sauce???? Not sure why that could not be served, could have told my wife she could not have the cocktail sauce. At this point we decided it was time to go. Horrible experience to be honest.
First time dining there and the food was tasty! Even got a free appetizer on the house!
The dinner was excellent, the staff attentive and professional We were very well received by the owners and the atmosphere is perfect for a date.
Perfectly prepared lush scampi from Iceland. This is a blend of country, attention to detail and virtuosic preparation. A new favorite.
Loved the place! Adored the service!
Thanks to David for his great service. Excellent meal.
Thanks to David! Great service and top-notch meal in this delicious restaurant. You will discover the center of Montreal around delicious seafood from the sea.
We really enjoyed our experience at Chez Delmo. We ordered the oysters, tomato soup, salmon tartare and the Dover sole. Everything was really good. Ian, our waiter was superb. We had a lot of questions for him. I had no room for dessert but wish I did :) I highly recommend.
Walleye was one of the most perfect meals I ve had in a very long time. Ian was an excellent waiter. Atmosphere was comfortable and relaxed, but still fancy and special. Dietary restrictions: Ian asked about dietary restrictions.
Simply delicious with great service!
Already my second visit to this fabulous restaurant. Impeccable service and succulent food. Thank you very much to Benoit and David for this good atmosphere. We will definitely come back!
The place to be Where to start, a most friendly welcome, smiles, various attentions, unparalleled service Kitchen side; you can taste the best lobsters from the entire coast cooked with great finesse and talent, accompanied by a sublime cocktail called Bloody Caesar All sprinkled with very pleasant little stories served with a smile by the (very friendly) director of the establishment! Thank you for these great moments! We will definitely come back! Navy
What an amazing place! The cuisine is fine and really good. The place is cozy and quiet. Its a change from noisy restaurants. The wine list is superb. And the service is impeccable. For a wine by the glass, ask for the Sauvignon Blanc with clam chowder, its famous! Snails are delicious. Surf and turf is sick! Definitely a great restaurant for a date!
Fantastic oysters, wonderful scallops and welcoming service. Delicious wines
Garbage management. Reservation of 6 cancelled at 6:45. Restaurant wanted to change to 6:30(impossiblef for us) or cut seating time for their profit and turn around. Because another seating, that was never mentioned, was at 9:15pm and we would have to leave the table no matter at what point we were into our dinner. Day before New Years Eve. Reservations made over two weeks prior to have them cancelled the day before. Great job owner of the restaurant.
Service because food was incredibly tasty. We went there for the 2nd time and we loved it as much as the first time. Good advice from the pateon on the choice of dishes. Even though its a little expensive, its well worth it. I love this restaurant. I will come back there during my next stay in Montreal
The food and service superb! A must visit when In Montréal. One of our favorite place when visiting
Superlative restaurant. It s very aesthetic and homey, the staff treat you with the utmost of respect and attention, and the food is top notch without having you break the bank. I am definitely gonna return to this place next time I think about seafood dishes.
So expensive for small plates of mediocre food.. 8$ water bottles.. Do not come here its a scam.
Its a complete scam/rip off. 8$ per water bottle which they dont let you know the price until the bill arrives at the end. They remove any liquid drinks from you at your arrival to ensure you spend money on their extremely over priced drinks. The food was tasty, but definitely way over priced. My husband and I payed 460$ just for our romantic meal together. We didnt even get alcoholic drinks nor desert and coffee. Left the restaurant still a little hungry. The keg is by far way more worth your buck and tummy. Also they dont have so many rules and arent so conspicuous at the keg versus Chez Delmo. I highly**DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT TO ANYONE!!**
Best French seafood restaurant in Montreal. The Dover Sole is the best Ive had anywhere, and comes with a generous portion of sides. Prices are high but adequate for the quality of the food and overall experience. Service is top notch. Also they have valet service!
Impeccable, professional and warm service! Perfect execution for each dish. You have to plan to spend a little if you want to taste everything, but the menu is varied enough to be affordable regardless of the budget.
We have been dining out for many years and The Dover Sole was the best my husband ever had . Many fish selections on the menu and presented in a very enticing way. Highly recommend Chez Delmo. Very convenient to Old Montreal.
It was my first time eating here and I loved. Great service . Great ambiance. The food was excellent. The waitress took the time to answer all our questions . I didn t feel rushed. Very good attention to details.
Amazing ambiance, great service, family owned restaurant, excellent attention to detail. Will definitely come back
As soon as I enter, no greeting of welcome instead the very rude owner of the business told me to take my hat off immediately. his tone of voice is offensive. he could have explained in a very calm manner but it wasnt. Second, i see that maybe this is a fancy restaurant but you are located in the heart of a tourist location in Montreal. You will have all sorts of customers. if you want people with suits, then put a sign with suits only. His behavior was very similar to that of a boss who is saying to employees what to do. the owner should not greet people in front of the restaurant like that. its a restaurant at the end of the day and good luck operating a business like this. We cant believe that weve spent over 200 bucks on that business dinner. Will not go back to this place. whats sad is that i had very good experience back in 2018.
***TRAUMATIZING EXPERIENCE*** I drive in my car on the street adjacent to the restaurant. Suddenly, a car comes out of the restaurants underground parking lot and cuts me off. I had to brake suddenly to avoid colliding with the luxury SUV. The woman honks at me for no reason as if I am at fault even though I am driving normally on the street. I park in front of the restaurant because Im waiting for someone. I then notice that the woman in the luxury SUV is a valet from Chez Delmo (she was wearing a sweater from the restaurant). I am then very surprised to see that this employee is driving this way with customers cars... 2 minutes later, 2 employees from Chez Delmo come to my car. The 2 employees approach me like a lion and confront me, practically shouting at me. They literally intimidate me and take pictures of my license plate . They are bullies Avoid this restaurant, the employees are completely unprofessional. They are slobbery and arrogant
Very good restaurant for my partners birthday! the fish of the day is excellent and the oysters are fresh
Superb place, the welcome was perfect from start to finish. What can we say about the menu, for lovers of seafood we were served! The service is professional and the staff attentive Tasty and generous dishes. We will come back ..
Overpriced place and not worth the long time waiting for your food. staff is super great. The grouchy man at the entrance not that great but the staff is good. The pasta is horrible and no taste at all. II ordered scallops and they were overcooked and mushy. We waited over an hour to get overcooked and tasteless food. Not worth the price for a $100 doll sea food pasta. What a disappointment!
Beautiful space, wonderful and elegant service. All of the seafood was cooked perfectly. Everyone was so friendly the moment we entered the restaurant. They even gave us recommendations for places to go around town.
The snow crab was exquisite, we had to order another one! Benoit is very welcoming and he explained that they only have snow crab for 5 weeks during the year and how delicate and labour intense is the process to serve this delicious dish. It was awesome!
A wonderful address. Everything is delicious and the father and son team Benoît and William bring an immense amount of soul.
This restaurant is fantastic on every level from the staff to the delectable food on the palate. Plan lessons accordingly, every dollar is worth the expense.
The service was impeccable, with attentive and friendly staff who made sure I had a great time. The servers were very knowledgeable about the menu and gave me excellent recommendations on dishes and wines to choose. Delicious food, attentive service and pleasant atmosphere. See you soon.
Great lunch plus I had a nice conversation with the owner.
A rare place to be preserved. A cozy, lively atmosphere that allows you to feel at home - and to eat a little later in the evening. Delicious cuisine (perfect fish cooking, for example), varied and presented with care. Wide choice of wines and other drinks. All at fair prices. At Delmo, we find efficient, welcoming, respectful staff who are good to talk to. And then, it s also good to live with Benoît, at the counter, in peace.
Great spot, Fantastic spot for lunch or dinner with delicious seafood meals.
We book at Delmos for dinner. But it s much more than a meal, it s an exchange with quality professionals. An excellent menu in an excellent atmosphere. We don t just come to dine at Delmo, we also come to live an experience. Ours was perfect. Caro, the best for you!
Loved the lobster roll. Great service. Not the most swanky atmosphere or the cheapest prices but very good, fresh, generous food.
Lobster club was amaaazing
Weve dined at Delmo for decades before it was sold. It WAS 5 star in every respect. Since new owners took over we have tried it 3 times. Once the fish n chips at lunch was very good as was the tomato soup although could have been warmer. That was 2021ish. In the past 6 months we have gone twice. Scallops were small and lukewarm and quite sub-par as was the tomato soup. Just barely warm. the 3rd time lobster rolls (2) was just ok and small in a plain hotdog roll was just so-so. At $96.00 for 2 lobster roll I would expect it like New England in bigger rolls and definitely more copious. We were hungry and we are not big eaters to begin with. We will not be returning and will not recommend. Sub-par on every level. Not the same Delmo as it once was. Bye, Bye.
What WOW! but good! A place to try! to discover! and to definitely return
By far, one of the best culinary experiences I have had. The service, the cocktails, the menu items and the attn to detail, is over the top. This has transformed my seafood experience. A MUST, for every seafood lover. Must be rated in Montreals top 10. The owner, Bartender and chef all are exemplary. I can t recommend this experience enough.
A true gem! Amazing food, outstanding service and lovely atmosphere. Definitely coming back!
Very good service.
Amazing food, very knowledgeable waiters & Benoit the owner is very friendly! We had oysters, snails, calamaris, scallops, crab cakes & more. Hard to pin point which was my favourite because we truly enjoyed every item we tried. Will most definitely be back!
Everything about this restaurant is first class. The staff and owners are attentive and the food is out of this world
Everything is excellent, both the service and the dishes!!! I highly recommend it!
On a family trip to Old Montreal, hotel concierge recommended this restaurant. 7 of us went together expecting a nice dinner. Our food took 1 hour to come out, and the manager was rude about it as well when we expressed frustration at how long the wait was. We even had a reservation! The server did the best he could, but was clearly serving too many tables by himself. The food is so-so, definitely not worth the price is costs! At that price point, the food and service should be top-notch, but both were not. Do not go to this restaurant when in Old Montreal... there are so many other much better ones to choose from.
Came here for what was suppose to be my birthday dinner - I would not recommend this place to anyone. Our food did not arrive until an hour after we ordered. After we complained to the manager, he lied and said we only waited for 30 minutes. I felt bad for our waiter because he was very nice and courteous. He was apologetic and sincere but the manager was out of this world rude! Didn t even apologize, he just shook his head and walked away. Food was way overpriced for what we were served. There are better restaurants in Montreal than this. Do not waste your time or money here! It took so long for our food to come that I didn t even bother taking any pictures!
Excellent service. The delicacy and class remain very unique here. Oh lala oh lala for their really tasty menu. I recommend thank you again for having us even if it was his reservation.
Title: A Culinary Delight! Rating: (5/5) I recently had the pleasure of dining at this amazing restaurant, and I must say, it was an absolute delight! From start to finish, the experience was impeccable, leaving me with a lasting impression. Adrian our server was incredible and polite from start to finish. The restaurants ambiance was warm and inviting, with a tasteful décor that exuded elegance. Adrian greeted me with genuine warmth and professionalism, making me feel right at home. Their attention to detail and impeccable service truly elevated the dining experience. Now, lets talk about the food! Each dish was a masterpiece, beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The menu offered a diverse range of options, catering to various dietary preferences. Each dish was to die for but my personal favourite was the Beef Carpaccio. The flavors were well-balanced and left me wanting more. The mains of Surf N Turf plus the Seafood Pasta also had flavors that kept me wanting more and so we ll balance. In addition to the extraordinary food, the pricing was at a perfect range for the food you get, considering the high quality of ingredients and the overall experience. Its safe to say that I got more than my moneys worth! Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an unforgettable culinary experience. From the warm ambiance, impeccable service, and mouthwatering dishes, this place truly stands out. Whether its a special occasion or a casual night out, this restaurant will exceed your expectations. Dont miss out on this hidden gem! Being a tourist in the city traveling from Sydney, Australia makes me want to visit again asap!
Delicious lunch in old montreal, we had such a nice and considerate service and the food was great. My father goes to this restaurant everytime he s in town and I now understand why!
Excellent prestigious restaurant! Personalized and courteous service, fine seafood cuisine. Staff and owner Benoit contributed to making us have a memorable evening!
Food was fresh but bland , service was terrible. Do not recommend
We were looking for a restaurant to eat at during the season, and we were not disappointed with our experience at Delmo. The waiter informed us perfectly about the different dishes, and everyone was delighted with their order. The wines are really expensive unfortunately, but the dishes are worth their prices. We had trouble finding a spot in the area and ended up going to a paid parking lot for $21 a night, before seeing that the restaurant offered valet parking for $15, so keep that option in mind if youre by car :) If you are a seafood lover, go there without hesitation!
The chef did not know how to cook fish
Very good restaurant to try urgently!! Very professional service and very good, tasty dishes and you taste
Had a wonderful lunch at Chez Delmo today August the 3rd. Loved the lobster loved the Dover sole even the frites were fantastic. The service was impeccable , professional & friendly. The decor is attractive it is not noisy we love everything about this restaurant. Will go back next week!
Wonderful! The service was warm and attentive. The food was absolutely excellent. Very fresh and beautifully prepared. Atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable.
Had an amazing meal here and some of the best service we had in our visit to Canada . The service we had as incredible you need to try the cream of tomato soup ! ) it s the original recipe since 1930 it s the best tomato soup ever. Seafood was fresh and amazing everything was great
A truly delicious restaurant!!! Excellent service and welcome! I absolutely recommend
The best meal weve had in a long time. Food was truly amazing and the service was on-point. David was our server and he looked after us very well.
We went Thursday August 24, 2023 for the evening meal we were people with different meals and all 5 of us enjoyed very fine meals very well cooked. If I could give a rating it would be above 17 out of 20.
An incredible restaurant! The best seafood/fish restaurant in Montreal! Very pleasant service. Boss and son are of rare kindness!
The place is good, but can be noisy at times. The food is excellent. On the other hand, for the price, the quantities are not generous.
An excellent dining experience. Our waiter. David went out of his way to make our evening special. The walleye was one of the best prepared fish I have had. A truly memorable evening.
Best lobster roll! .service was great
The food and the servers were okay. Nothing too fancy, the dishes were as described, noting more. However, NOT worth the price tag. Underwhelming entrée portions and drinks selection. But the WORST part of our dinner, was the owner. He would waltz around the dining room, making the rounds with some VIP tables, laughing loudly and making conversation, and ignored the other customers. He sat behind the bar, examining every move the waiters made. He also BERATED his employees in the middle of the dining room. He pulled employees aside to criticize and ridicule them in front of the customers. He did not even make the effort to reprimand the staff in the kitchen or behind the bar, he did it right in front of paying customers. trying to enjoy their meal. It put a damper on our romantic dinner. This was appalling and I would be ashamed to talk to colleagues this way. He seems like a person with anger management issues. I used to work in the food industry, and I do not want to eat at restaurant where employees are treated this way.
We were greeted at the door and our coats hung up and immediately taken to our reserved table. Our water and the adult beverages took a long time to be served to our table of five. One of the ordered drinks was substituted for the type ordered. We visibly caught this action. We couldnt believe this unethical practice. Oysters were amazing. Our meals took a very long time to be served, and the kitchen staff brought a small chef taste bite to appease our long wait. Everyone really enjoyed the meals and selections we finally did received. We also enjoyed a desert to end the evening to end our special evening. We werent asked during the night if any in our group would like wine for dinner, or even another cocktail during our long wait for our meals. No one thanked us for coming to their establishment, and no one helped us retrieve our coats and umbrellas as we left this establishment. Some staff needs more training in many aspects of customer service but others were most helpful.
We had a reservation for 5 people at 6:15. So far, so good. Then it went downhill. The waiter and the bartender tried to pull a fast one by pouring regular Tangeray instead of Tangeray 10. I watched him do it. The waiter didnt say a thing as he placed the glass in front of me. I called him on it. They claimed the 10 bottle didnt have enough for a full pour. But if I hadnt seen the subterfuge, I believe he would not have admitted the truth. One of our party ordered lobster salad, and they brought out lobster bisque instead. They did fix it. I had the lobster bisque, and there were lots of nice chunks of lobster meat, but half of them were quite rubbery. It took quite a while to get our entrees. So overall, the service was terrible, and the food so so. One does not expect so so food for the prices they charge.
Not being a fan of seafood in general, I still enjoyed it, as for the waiter, David I think his first name, A1 service, made me laugh, very smiling too
Very good restaurant! The server was attentive to our needs. I loved.
Amazing food and great service!! I highly recommend !!
Superb experience. David was very cordial and very helpful. Many thanks to him! And to the whole team!
Perfect service and meal!!
Quite possibly the greatest seafood in the city! Everything is served fresh, tasty and great service. Tucked into Old Montreal, you do not want to miss this place! Killer oysters as well!
Lonbster roll excellent served with fries and salad, but a little expensive nonetheless.
Great food, great service, and comfortable. I sat at the bar alone and had great conversations with the staff. They knew when to engage in conversation and when to let me enjoy my meal. Its a delicate balance, especially when im not feeling social, but they were all very pleasant. It was a slow Wednesday night and was even able to meet one of the owners. Benoit was very personable. Will definitely be back.
1st visit to Delmo as part of MTL à table: what a great discovery! Succulent meal, exceptional value for money, superb service from Jonas. Everything was perfect to make this moment a success! Intimate, pleasant atmosphere, music . You have to come back without fail! Lucie and Pierrette from Trois-Rivières
Served by Ian. Great atmosphere, respectful and cheerful service, impeccable food!
We came as a couple as part of MTL à table 2023. Very quiet (low season) but still warm! We each took different dishes and shared them without hesitation because everything was good! Great balance of flavors and great execution. We returned to the hotel really full. Thanks also for the service to Ian who served us really well! (No photos, we ate everything!)
The food was wonderful! The ribeye was superbly cooked and the tomato soup was delicious. But what made the meal even better was our server Ian. Charming, professional, and very sweet.
Ian, our waiter, was extremely helpful and patient! The food was delicious and we would have given it 6 stars if we could. This restaurant is a MUST if you re in Montreal. And while you re there, ask for Ian for the best experience!!
Very good Friend of mine was in Town from the Caribbean this week. I personally am on a special diet and can only eat Seafood so we looked for a restaurant that served that but with a good rating. Chez Delmo seemed to be a choice that was fair enough to try. Now bear in mind that I am a critic that will tell it as it is without filter. We were greeted warmly by the host and our Jackets were hung up for us. Once seated, we didnt wait long to be greeted by our Waiter and asked wahat we would like yo drink. After ordering our entrees and food, we were given complimentary taste of something that I forgot the name of but found it unique but very tasty. For Supper, my friend ordered the Surf and Turf and I had the Holland Dover Sole. The Food was cooked just right and very tasty. The Ungava Gin Tonic / Soda was well proportioned and tasted just right. If I can give this restaurant 20 stars I would because honestly the experience there was so good. I highly recommend Chez Delmo. I certainly will be going back very soonand will definitely bring friends and family to experience this Beautiful restaurant. Thanks for reading and thank you Chez Delmo for such a wonderful experience.
Very cozy restaurant and attentive staff. We had a delicious seafood pasta & langoustines. All staff (particularly our server, Ian) paid great attention to detail which made for a wonderful dining experience.
Very good table and very good service. I recommend!
By far the best seafood restaurant in Montreal, the service is impeccable, the dishes are excellent! I highly recommend, this is the restaurant not to be missed.
Thank you!
Very welcoming staff. The dishes are excellent. I had the fish of the day and my mother had the scallops. Delicious. Well done to the chef!
We were a party of four, and one of us has a disability (no kidneys) with a service dog, and disability certificate. The host did not allow us to come with service dog, which is violation of Disability act.
We hadn t been to Montreal in several years and Chez Delmo was our first stop for dinner upon our return. Our experience was magical then and amazing again this time. The owner made us feel like we were a part of the family and his staff was so nice and attentive. The food is simply the best! From their classic tomato soup to the seafood specialties of the house, every bite was delicious. We can t wait to return.
Food you will fondly remember...the fresh seafood can be traced to the location, ship and date it was caught...and prepared by the kitchen to tease your palete with glorious delight...you are catered by a fine knowledgeable staff and a bar sufficiently stocked to please most anyones needs. Proud owner Benoit also brings worthy conversation as to why this place is so special. A must visit while in Old Town Montreal...dont miss it!!
Maya and the other staff were so friendly and cordial. We enjoyed both the fish and chips and the grilled salmon. A young man brought a complimentary amuse bouche of mini crab cakes (in fortunately we don t eat shell fish ) He replaced for us with mini tomato soup which was delicious. Unfortunately we forgot to take photos
Overall it s good but really overpriced. The lobster roll was good, served with fries and coleslaw (cabbage too thin). The lobster is really good but if you pay 42 dollars for it I find it unfortunate that is served with a cheap toasted hot dog bread. A proper bun would be so much better . Such as a brioche bread or a ciabatta style The service was good but the organization was weird we were a table of 10 aerated in 2. We wanted to share appetizers all together it was complicated for nothing we did not get the food at the same time (15 min delay)
Tremendous dining experience. Merci encore
They had a foodtruck at fierté festival montreal. The portion of fish was way too small for the price. Would not go to restaurant or recommend the place. Too many better options out there.
We went on a date here at it was packed and busy, someone greeted up right away and told us that there was a wait time but he ll check in to see if we could be seated anywhere. Another waiter came over to us and asked if we mind being seated by the bar and without a reservation even though it was busy we were seated in about 10 mins. The food was amazing, the owner and his son conversed with us throughout the night, the customs service was great and it was one of the best experiences we ve had at a restaurant in Montreal. Thank you for that experience, it made our date night even more wonderland. Also would suggest the seafood pasta!
Great experience and great food. Worth the higher price. Crab appetizer was delicious.
It was awful. The food was outrageously overpriced for very common variety fare, especially the seafood pasta and market price steamed lobster. The service was very inattentive and slow. Steer clear of this tourist trap.
Very good seafood restaurant in old Montreal, accessible by transport (not far from the Square-Victoria metro station). The atmosphere is really excellent, the decor is neat. You can eat at the bar, the bar is really great! We ate there with my father. I had a tomato cream as a starter which was really good. We also had a plate of squid to share which was very good with two sauces (tartare and cocktail). For mains, I had the lobster club sandwich and my father had the walleye which were both delicious. The drinks menu is varied, good choice of beers, cocktails and wines. The service and the team are top notch, the managers are involved in the quality of the customer experience and will even take the time to come and chat with you. We will come back with pleasure!
Amazing restaurant with the freshest seafood. David provides a great service.
Great experience over all . Food top Notch...seafood was out of this world and the waiters were friendly and attentive
Really nice wine list and good atmosphere. Owner took special recognition of our kids, and set us up in at a great table.
Good service and good meal
The food is good but it took too long. The prices are above average and the vibe is very good. Recommended dishes
Overrated and expensive restaurant with slow service. Fries were mushy and terrible. Lobster pasta was bland without additional spicy oil. Not impressed. Cocktails were good at least.
Great ambiance and even better food. The Snow Crab Chowder....Delicious! Definitely coming back wifey next time.
Went in for a quick snack of oysters and a drink. The bartender was a lovely person who made us feel welcome. The oysters were awesome!
I would never go back to this restaurant. Food was above average. It took them 20 minutes to bring us water to the table and ask us if we wanted anything.
Diner incroyable à Montréal! Made a last minute reservation at the bar. From the moment we walked in the door, we knew we were in the right place; great ambience and welcoming staff. Drinks were carefully crafted and graciously served. Started with shrimp cocktail presented around an overturned martini glass sheltering a bed of ramp surrounded by a deep red cocktail sauce and assorted pickled vegetables. Seared scallops were sublime. Poached halibut was delicate and well prepared. Merci beaucoup Benoit. Merci beaucoup Chez Delmo.
Very nice ambiance, intimate, and excellent food. Shout out to Benoit, Caroline, and the owner, Adam, for making our visit so welcoming and enjoyable. Great hospitality and service, definitely recommend coming here!
It s a nice restaurant visually, but the foods are not good at all. 3 people 5 different meals the only good thing was the fries and that s it. Didn t worth the money.
I recommend it! Great welcome and the whole team is great! Great food and place!
I was invited by friends to this restaurant that I knew. Good atmosphere and food. However, I will never set foot there again. At the end of the meal and after paying the bill by leaving a 15% tip, the angry owner, because he found it insufficient, came to our table to call our host names and loudly in front of all the customers present. A poorly behaved and rude character, no respect for anyone, not even his customers, the evening which should have been pleasant was ruined by his extremely unpleasant attitude and his irrational behavior.
Dinner to which we had invited a couple of good friends At the time of the bill of more than $613 approximately! The owner of the place came and loudly insulted my husband in order to get more tip! What a poorly educated and classless character! Why create this discomfort when it would have been acceptable to ask my husband to speak to her discreetly! We therefore understood that he was not paying his employees their fair value! His wines (2 bottles) despite their really excessive price for their quality should have been enough profit! What a lack of self-control! Very appropriate advice for you, Mr. Owner: consume wine in more moderation when you are at work! You will then know how to speak with respect and dignity to your customers! P.s. We did the majority of the water and wine service ourselves without complaint. The service was polite but I think there are missing employees! Very unfortunate Mr. Owner! Your behavior was inappropriate and showed obvious verbal abuse! What a pity! The food was excellent but your inappropriate verbal displays made digestion more difficult.
Excellent food, amazing service!! Best seafood restaurant in Montreal! Our server David was very attentive!! Very nice atmosphere! I will go back
Food was good, staff were a pleasure. Owners takes pride in their restaurant.
Prime location, with nice decoration. Valet parking available. Food is ordinary. For a restaurant that charges this kind of pricing, is unacceptable. Makes no sense. Furthermore, the waiting times were insane. We ordered and got drinks pretty fast. Then, it took about 15 mins for the appetizers. Main dish arrived 35 minutes after we finished the appetizers. Waiter came twice ( about 10 and 15 minutes before the REAL arrival) and said it will be 2-3 minutes. We had to ask for water each time. Glasses empty would be placed on the edge to be seen, BUT nothing until we asked. I can cook home just like this, maybe better. Sometimes I wonder how places like this stay in business. There are so much better restaurants within 5 minutes walking with outstanding service. So better and cheaper. Verdict : I wouldnt try.
The appetizers were excellent. My main dish was not that great. I ordered eggplant ravioli. The raviolis were ok, but the tomato sauce was horrible and spoiled the entire dish. My husbands and my sons meals were excellent. The service was excellent as well.
All the dishes I ordered were delicious. In particular, the scallop dish, fried squid, and fish and chips were amazing. I also had a pleasant meal thanks to the friendly staff.
From the second I walked in I was treated like dirt. The service is absolutely terrible. The waiter started giving me a bunch of demands was being extremely disrespectful to me and I didn t feel comfortable at all. The food is 3x the price of normal food and is extremely mediocre. This restaurant is a tourist trap and by far the worst service I ve ever experienced in my life. The staff here have absolutely zero respect. I do not recommend anyone going to this place if there looking to enjoy a decent meal.
Firstly, as soon as we arrived one of the managers (owner?), arrogant as can be, greeted us with a big sarcastic laugh because it was a Saturday evening without a reservation. What a lack of professionalism. Then, no one at the table really liked their food. Really expensive food for the taste (the tomato soup tastes like Campbells soup). Finally, a positive point, the server and bartender were very nice and their service was excellent. Too bad the manager has a bad attitude that ruins the experience of his restaurant.
Food was cold, rice was undercooked, and overall this was an underwhelming experience. We left hungry. Also, the waiter left my drink empty for a 1/2 hour. I ll never come back. This is my first Google review and I made it because I thought it was important enough to come on and say how this place really is.
Excellent meal! Fresh and succulent seafood! Excellent service from Benoit and his team! THANKS!
Excellent food. The seafood is fresh and tasty. We were a group of 16 people and had very good service and the owner is friendly. Highly recommended.
Probably the best seafood tower in town.
The place is beautiful and the food is very good, the attention of the waiter David was perfect in addition to how well he speaks Spanish, which we greatly appreciated. We are a table that always orders a lot of food, several bottles of wine, cocktails, etc. without paying any price. We were shocked when halfway through the meal they told us that at eight they had another reservation for our table. The truth is that it was a little uncomfortable. But the management resolved the problem which we greatly appreciate. It is a good place to visit on vacation if you want to eat well and have a good budget.
Chez Delmo is the reference in seafood and fish. If you are looking for a quiet place for a business dinner, a romantic dinner or just to come alone you will be served. The quality of the fish is by far one of the best in Montreal. The dover sole is just incredible. The cocktails are generous in alcohol and the Barman William will entertain you if you wish to just stay at the Bar.
My wife and I came here on a whim while visiting Montréal, drawn to it by our love of seafood and the excellent online reviews. I cannot describe how wonderful our experience was here. This restaurant packs an absolute knock out punch with their flavours, and the service we had was exemplary. We will certainly be returning and hopefully soon.
