Located in downtown Montreal, Ferreira has been offering modern Portuguese cuisine in a warm and refined atmosphere, for over 20 years. A meticulous selection of wines and fresh ingredients will bring you back again and again.
Superb experience. Staff are incredible and all the dishes we tried were superb. Would highly recommend. Wine list is also great.
I just had the best time at Cafe Ferreira for a work event! We came in at 9 PM with a group of 10, and we were treated to a fabulous table d'hote menu featuring steak, prawns, veggies, and mushroom risotto. Everything was served buffet style, which was so convenient and fun, and it even came with dessert! I have to say, the prawns and the risotto were definitely my favorites – they were absolutely delicious! The service was amazing, too; the staff was super attentive and always there for refills. Overall, it was such a great spot for our group event, and I can’t recommend it enough!
The food is not good. Bland and pretentious. I ordered the smoked eggplant to start, the pomegranate had so much acid it completely overpowered the dish. There was no flavour besides acid. I ordered the octopus as my main and it was completely tasteless. The octopus was cooked well, however the entire dish was watery and lacked any sort of flavour. In the picture I included you can see some of the water pooling at the bottom of my plate. The bread was the best part of my meal. After eating I immediately began to have digestive issues and I had diarrhea once I was home. I am extremely disappointed with my food here. This was not worth $90, save your money.
This is a great place! The staff is pleasant and has great suggestions for dinner, wine, and dessert. The food is cooked perfectly, so delicious! I had the halibut with couscous and vegetables, everything was cooked to perfection, and the portion size was perfect. Dessert was strawberry and mango sorbet with fruit.
The seafood tower was amazing — the mussels were today’s winner. Trust your (well-dressed) clever server to recommend an appropriate wine to accompany your meal. A must for serious foodies.
Food: Exceptionally fresh seafood. We ordered: 1) Seafood Platter: if you have two or more diners, don’t second guess. Just get it. 2) Roasted Sardines: one of our favorite dishes of the night. 3) Daily Catch: Incredible sea bream with an amazing chickpea salad and veggies. Everything perfectly cooked and seasoned. 4) Bouillabaisse: Highlight of the night. A must-try dish. Service: Top notch. Attentive but not overbearing despite the fact that it was super super busy even on a Monday night. Ambiance: We were seated in a quieter corner in the back and it was very nice.
Highly recommend reservation. One of the best Portuguese seafood restaurants. Every dish was cooked to perfection, wished I could have tried every dish on the menu.
It was a very busy Friday night when we arrived. Shortly after we got seated, our waitress Nicole kindly went over their daily specials and answered our questions with patience since it was our first visit there. She was knowledgeable, attentive and pleasant, so great first impression! We ordered a half dozen oysters, fish & seafood bouillabaisse and seafood rice casserole, with a tiger prawn for each. The texture and flavors are simply perfect and original, without being overpowered by the sauce. We were absolutely amazed by the quality and quantity of both dishes! Needless to say, we finished everything in the pot and loved every bite and wrapped up the night with a lovely dessert!
We have always given this restaurant 5 stars. It s been our favorite spot for nearly 20 years. The food is excellent, and the atmosphere is usually very welcoming. However, today we were disappointed with how we were treated, which is why we are giving 3 stars instead of 5. It was my mother s first time visiting this restaurant, and we wanted to share this special place with her. We stayed at our table for about 2 hours and 30 minutes, and then we were told that we needed to pay and leave. The server mentioned that he was simply passing along instructions he had received. While the server was polite, we did not appreciate being made to feel like we were being rushed out. What made this experience even more disappointing is that we have been loyal customers for years and have supported this restaurant through difficult times. When the city of Montreal treated this establishment unfairly, we stood by them. We supported them on social media, encouraged our friends to visit, and sent countless messages to show our support. This restaurant absolutely deserves 5 stars for its food and service, but tonight s experience did not reflect the hospitality we ve always enjoyed here. We hope management takes this feedback seriously, as we truly value this place and want to continue recommending it to others.
While passing through Montreal, the Ferreira Café was recommended to us. An extraordinary Portuguese culinary experience coupled with a warm and professional welcome by all the staff, from the host, to the team leader Caroline, our sommelier and our waitress, Jeanne! Mr. Carlos, you have an extraordinary team! Well done! Annie Roy and André Rivard from Quebec.
Not sure what was better, the service or food? Our waiter was lovely and made the best recommendations. The food was divine! Will def come back on my next trip to Montreal. Thank you for a wonderful experience
The food is very good. I give 4 stars because the dish I ordered - the Bouillabaisse- is extremely salted. I asked for some lemon and I was also offered broth without any additional salt to dilute the sauce. Next time, I will remember to specify No Salt when ordering the food! !
Everything was perfect!
Reception room upstairs superb superb. Awesome food and great service. Downside on the door which lets in a lot of cold. A portico would be a good investment.
Incredible dining experience. Food is amazing and service is top notch. Highly recommend.
Very happy to have eaten in this restaurant The dish was excellent and the wine perfect I will return there with pleasure
Just wow! Unfortunately no photos, but had the sardines to start, perfectly cooked! Had the duck risotto, good lord its outstanding, served in individual pots. Had an outstanding bottle of Portuguese red wine and finished with a beautiful glass of 10 year old port. Not cheap, but you pay for spectacular food, wine and educated and engaging staff.
Thank you very much Fernando!!! All good ! Excellent service, nourriture délicieuse!
Excellent service from Victor! Excellent octopus
I really recommend
It s an institution definitively worth trying when in montreal, especially there octopus(main dish). Nice variety of Portuguese wines,Tristan (sommelier) was very helpful. Cheers Food : 5/5
The experience is always exceptional. I highly recommend the tasting menu accompanied by the wines. Parking: Parking for Mont Royal courses is preferable and simpler.
Flawless, thank you for the little attention for my wifes birthday. We will return very very very soon! Vegetarian options: 100% vegan dish available
First surprise was having the waiter telling me I shouldn t have the risotto but the cod that is their signature dish, told him I have cod often but he insisted. I would ordinarily argue and stick to my choice but I didn t want to make a scene Second surprise was that the grilled octopus was cajun as they brought me the most charred piece of fish I ever saw. Had to cut the burned flesh to eat it Then came the worst cod I ever had, left most of it and thankfully my wife had enough risotto to share (she was allowed by the waiter to order this ). Very disappointed
Great seafood place downtown Montreal and amazing service.
All very gooood Expensive though. Food : 4/5
had an event there, everything was excellent ++
Perfect place to eat. The food was so well made. I ordered the sea bass for two and wow. The service and atmosphere was also great! Ate here before heading to the airport for a redeye and I have no regrets, so satisfying and quick service for what they are making. I want to try the black cod next time. One improvement: the bread service isn t the best bread and its just served with oil (great olive oil but still) if some balsamic or spices were added it would be top tier. Vegetarian options: Vegan choice
I wanted to enjoy the time with my mom, so we came here. But the table was super small and I paid $100+ for food, we didnt have enough to eat. And the cutlery was too old and not in good condition. I wont come again.
Had a fantastic dinner and would recommend the crispy octopus. We were a large group and the wait staff were efficient and very friendly. The only downside was being put in the back room where the lighting was flickering ... and since we were all in the lighting industry it was annoying and slightly amusing.
Amazing on every level. This is a Montreal staple that you NEED to try right now.
Wonderful experience. We made reservations at 3pm while they were actually closing for the afternoon (their system error) and they still sat us. They were extremely warm and inviting despite the mixup. The ambiance was very nice. Think jazz bar meets fine dining. Our server suggested an amazing white wine. The food was unforgettable starting from the bread. The fried squid appetizer was exceptional. We shared the fresh red snapper and it was very good. However, the duck risotto was life changing. I ll definitely be back!!
Little advice, check your bill! There were 6 of us, 3 bills and 2 were wrong by $100 each. The price of wine is not the same on the bill and on the menu!!! Weird because I imagine it s already planned! Plus the absent smile of the owners daughter!
Food is amazing! This time we wait long time for our plates! It is not a quiet restaurant but the food surpasses it all!
Great staff, great atmosphere, excellent food
Wonderful experience. Has the turbot fish for two. It was deboned at our table. Fun to watch the skill. It s the fastest fish in the ocean!
If I could give this Portuguese restaurant 20 stars I would! We booked for our boys 18th birthday and Sandra welcomed us like we were family! The little touches, surprise cocktails upon arrival, plates of Portuguese desserts, impeccable service right up to Mr. Ferreira who came to greet us! This important evening will be remembered thanks to you! THANK YOU to the big Ferreira family for this wonderful meal! Everything was perfect !
Absolutely stunning experience. A must do in montreal. If you LOVE ur wine this is the place to go.
The Chantier sur Peel was a well balanced cocktail. Octopus appetizer was perfect, great texture and mix of flavours. Chocolate mousse was a delicious mix of caramel and chocolatey textures. Both those dishes were beautifully presented too. I regret that my phone was getting repaired so I couldnt snap a shot. The problem was the seafood rice casserole. Portions were definitely generous but the flavour just wasnt there. I appreciate the slight spice but for the most part it was just bland and mushy. I ordered it because it was supposed to have more of a bisque flavour. Im assuming adding the giant full crustacean and serving it in a pot was to give it a homey feel but the crustacean flesh (scampi maybe?) was kinda gross, and the dish should have had some sort of vegetable or side to add a bit of texture. Service was very attentive and for the most part knowledgable, but couldnt describe the tartare for some reason saying simply that it was salmon and creamy...like thats every salmon tartare...does it have shallots, sesame, capers? I wouldnt mind if she asked someone else for more detail but such a vague response wasnt helpful. Once again she was perfect in every other aspect and deserves her 5 stars. Pretty decor, but the music was basically elevator music, surprised they wouldnt go for something more upbeat and Mediterranean.
I had the pleasure of dining at Ferreira Cafe twice in four days, first for lunch and then for dinner. I have to tell you, if you are Montreal, this place is a must for at least a meal. The restaurant is elegant and gives a real sense of occasion without being stuffy or uptight. The staff is warm and helpful and is able to accommodate both French and English. I am so grateful that staff were extremely patient with my French, Im still learning and need the practice! At time of writing, they still have the outdoor sitting, which looks very lovely but not my taste. The people looked very happy and it if decorated beautifully. And the food. Wowowowowow. At lunch we were told the specials and they were doing one of my favourite things as a special - salmon tartare. It was incredible. Probably the best salmon tartare Ive ever had. The salmon was perfectly fresh, the dish was a perfectly balanced and seasoned and the intriguing garnishes were delightful. I will admit that everyone I spoke to for the rest of my time in Montreal had to listen to how excellent the salmon tartare was. I kept replaying in mind how very perfect it was. Our lunch waiter was extremely helpful with our wine selection - usually at lunch my dining partner and I would have white, but Ive been having a palette issue and lost my taste for the more acidic whites. Our waiter suggested a rose that was the perfect companion to my meal and I greatly enjoyed it. Now for our dinner. After that perfect lunch I had a lot of confidence dinner would also be incredible. And it was! We took a dear friend to dinner and he was thrilled with every moment of dinner. We were so lucky and felt that we were seated at the best table in the house. My husband and friend indulged in a perfectly made Vesper and perfectly made Martini. I had a lovely glass of wine. None of us opted for the daily specials, but it was a very difficult decision. They all sounded so good, so did the menu! Our appetizers were all tasty, beautiful and so good to eat. Our friend marveled at the beauty of the restaurant and how amazing our table was. I have to make special mention of the sommelier, he was so very helpful in assisting us finding a white that was complimentary to all our mains and also one that I greatly enjoyed. I realize that losing the love of more acidic whites is a problem, and it was handled by the sommelier beautifully, thank you again. The portions were incredible and I dont mind telling you I couldnt finish mine. Our meals were presented beautifully - I had the bouillabaisse and it was presented in a Le Creuset in one of their intriguing shades of blue. My husband was also served his main in a Le Creuset, in a different share of blue! Im trying to tell you, if you are Montreal or plan on being in Montreal, this place is a must for people who love fish and seafood. Im already looking forward to the next time we are in Montreal and able to have a meal here. For me, its lunchtime. Ill be thinking about the salmon tartare...
Tasty food. Cozy atmosphere. Not cheap
Good food, but expensive. Quite noisy on the inside. One would expect a more professional service and more relaxing experience from such a high-end restaurant.
Great food! The octopus was the best ever. Must have. Excellent service too.
First experience for me at Ferreira Wow this restaurant is fabulous the food is exceptional big 10/10 the atmosphere the service is number 1! We were there to celebrate my best friends 31st birthday and everything was perfect! After having visited several large restaurants in Montreal I must say that this one really exceeded our expectations in terms of the quality and freshness of the food without forgetting the impeccable service offered! Bravo feirreira! You can be sure that you will see us again Kid-friendliness: Yes
Excellent food & service. Surpassed my expectations, highly recommend!
Excellent Portuguese restaurant in Montreal. High quality food, friendly staff. Portugal very well represented! Parking: Car park right next to the restaurant.
Exceptional for Portuguese cuisine and wines. Efficient service. A little noisy
If you are into great seafood this is the place to be. The staff is fantastic, very attentive and so nice. We tried thier seafood tower and it was freah and delicious. It is a very trendy place so they keep the music quite loud. Since I was going with older mother, was a bit too loud. But that is does not deter from this being a great place to go.
Just witnessed a bunch of people complaining, and arguing with the staff!! Honeatly i agree with them!!! Service was very slow and no good!!! this place is very Overrated! I do not recommend to anyone! Also it wasnt fresh!
Excellent restaurant downtown Montreal
Just an update as I frequent Ferreira whenever I can. I was having some important friends visiting Montreal from the US and I wanted to make a strong impression (5 adults 3 children). Ferreira never disappoints. From the amazing attentive service, seafood tower, to the Tomahawk steaks - OUTSTANDING. We ve always had an amazing experience here and is in my opinion one of the top tables in all of Montreal, dare I saw North Ameica (and I travel A LOT). Wine selection from the sommelier was perfect and helped us select a wide variety of wines from Portugal. Fantastic experience for the money. Worth every dollar. Love love love Ferreira. Keep up the great work.
Best portuguese in town
Excellent,
Excellent restaurant! Beautiful terrace, incredible food and generous portions! Special note to our waitress who gave us great service! Everything was perfect !
Incredible dinner! Great food, service, and atmosphere!
Great food and great service. Very patron oriented.
My fiancee and I visited this restaurant this evening and it was a solid 10 Stars. NOT 5 but 10 stars . We had a couple of special requests due to underlying health challenges and the restaurant followed our requests without question, without hesitation. We were respectful and made those special requests in advance of our reservation so as to not create a possible problem if making them as we ordered our meal. We had Stuffed and Roasted Cornish Game Hen, oven roasted fingerling potatoes and glazed carrots in a nice brown sauce. The flavors were outstanding, the hen perfectly cooked and the stuffing moist and tender. A meal you could see your great grandmother making for Christmas way back in the day. Special thanks to Chef Natalia Machado and to Claudia for their outstanding help and hard work. Rhonda and I appreciated everything more than you know. 2 thumbs WAY WAY UP
It was our second time at Ferreira with the first time being wonderful. We decided to go for our wedding anniversary while on a trip to Montreal. What a deception, the food was subpar for a restaurant that is that expensive. We ordered the seafood tower, the lobster and smoked fish were dry. The wine list was great and the wine very good (good job to the Somelier). After the tower, I really felt bad and did not really want to eat anything else. They should also update the restautant.
Me and my son were staying 2 days in Montreal and we really wanted to try Sandra Ferreiras Portuguese restaurant and above all encourage her family! The starters were succulent: smoked salmon and roast octopus - one of the best I have tasted! For the main course, I loved the seafood rice: sophisticated flavors and lots of shrimp!!! However, my sons dish had no Portuguese touch: filet mignon with broccoli and fries... its disappointing when you go to a Portuguese restaurant... it would have been so easy to add a Portuguese touch!!! Otherwise we were on the terrace and we loved the experience!!! For the service: we had no explanation of the menu Fortunately I had done my research before visiting the restaurant and the waiter did not explain the menu to the tables near us big disappointment for a restaurant of this range - the waiter had a French accent if that helps to give him constructive criticism! So 4.5 star food and 3 star service for a 4 star overall rating! We still enjoyed our experience and I will definitely go back for the octopus !
One of the better restaurants of this trip. Fantastic service oriented to detail and quality. 5 Stars
Our party of four started with cocktails and roasted sardines then ordered fruits de mer, grilled fish, bouillabaisse, sauteed chanterelles, and a fine bottle of vinho verde. Our somaleir helped us find a wine that pleased everyone. Our server, Nicole, struck the perfect balance between being attentive without being intrusive. A very fine meal in a sophisticated environment.
Went for a girls dinner, we sat at the bar and the experience was perfection. The food was amazing, perfect for sharing and the wine and drinks options had something for every taste and budget The staff were so amazing, trust their recommendations, you wont be disseminated. A very classy but not stuffy restaurant in the best sense. Definitely will be back.
We loved the service, the atmosphere as much as the food. We are already looking forward to coming back.
everyone here was so great :)) food was amazing
Really nice and fresh seafood. Black cod is superb. Seafood rice casserole is well executed. Seating is comfy. A busy place, so reservation is a must. Would recommend.
Extraordinary culinary experience. Impeccable service, reasonable price.
The name cafe in the restaurant, I didn t expect to be $$$. It was near the hotel we were staying, so we were able to get reservations. It was very good but it expensive! Thank goodness I was celebrating my birthday! So it kinda justifies the splurge. Getting 4 stars bc it was more expensive than I expected. Service was great, the rice seafood casserole n risotto comes in a pot served nice n hot. The seafood bouillabaisse was good. The giant shrimp was undercooked. I know seafood is expensive. But wow! I almost fainted when I saw the bill! CA$400 w tip. The pastel the Nata was ok, was not crispy as the ones I had in Lisbon, $11 for 2? Not worth it. Skip it. Since it was my birthday I hit a nice candle w my desert. So nice! I forgot my phone so I didn t get to take pics. So my sis send them to me. Also the lighting was dark so the foid pics didn t come out good.
Exceptional service, excellent food, worth visiting!
The scallop ceviche was phenomenal. Not a single miss on any of the dishes. This place will be a repeat destination for sure! The one mistake was not writing down whatever Portuguese wine I had
One visit to Ferreira and you will be won over. A charming restaurant with a lot of class. I received very good service and my meal was good, although my main course lacked a tad of seasoning for my taste. Very good dessert. Thanks Ferreira!
A Montreal institution. Can go wrong eating here. Can get busy - book ahead.
Unexpectedly good taste, fresh ingredients, high service level, highly recommended!
This was our first time visiting and has high expectations. The service was very good with attentive and genuine staff. Unfortunately, we felt like the food did not justify the price. The appetizer we wanted was not available for lack of ingredients, the other option we eventually went with (tomato salad) was overpriced in our opinion and the sides of vegetables for the catch of the day felt like an afterthought (steamed cauliflower, carrot and brocoli).
Rice and fish dish was absolutely excellent. Highly Recommend. Portuguese wine Aldeia just ok but ceratainly not a $22 4 ounce pour of wine. I dont suggest free pouring in small customized wine glasses unless staff are trained on a 6 ounce pour. Fish and potatoes soup was just ok. Very spicy. The monk fish is a nice touch. They should serve it with a piece of bread. Fried app Octopus very well done. Highly recommend. Went with my wife and two daughters. Ordered adult meals. My 13 year old was offered a seafood linguini. It arrived extremely spicy and inedible. We asked no spice. She took 2 bites and stopped eating. I tried it and it was too spicey for me. Our kids are accustomed to spices and eat adult dishes. After some time they check in we asked for the dish without spice. We would have appreciated knowing it was an arrabiata when ordering in the first place. It was also evident she was not eating it. He made another and charged $45 for both the one thrown away and the second which she did enjoy. $90 dollar linguini with shrimp and scallops. It took away from an otherwise good experience. I dont mind paying $460 for 2 adults and 2 kids if we eat the food and enjoy it, but the wine and pasta was a mishap. We felt like the manager should have used better judgment. Not sure if we will go back.
Its a high-end, delicious, portuguese restaurant. Service is always nice and kind. Our favorite tables are the ones in front of the kitchen, as there are windows and you can see the preparation of the dishes. Its truly mesmerizing to see the great work. The risotto with the confit de canard is amazing. Also the ceviche. We come here every once in a while and its our favourite for special ocassions. Definitely a place to try when youre in Montréal.
Delightfully surprised by this restaurant close to our hotel in downtown Montreal. We enjoyed the seafood platter and wine in their outdoor patio before heading back home. The perfect ending to our anniversary trip!
The most helpful and practical service I have ever seen. Food with great presentation and spectacular flavor, doing justice to Portuguese dishes. Highly recommended.
Celebrating 50 years together, excellent place to do it. Service was superb, food excellent and a pleasant atmosphere. Well worth the money.
It was a crowded evening, but the owner managed seats for us. Of course the ambiant noise was terrible due to the number of customers... nevertheless, the fish was excellent. Cooked to perfection... and a perfect cooking is THE secret for a really good fish. Thanks for this and for your friendly welcome
Nice Portuguese cuisine and wines. High quality sea food. Excellent location. The winw list covers French and Italian.
service is really good. Duck and seafood soup is nice
Finally on the famous Ferreira terrace. ;) excellent service. Our waitress is nice and very helpful. Very good advice for wine. The Eggplant Burrata starter is our favorite. Followed very closely by the entry of tomatoes. The atmosphere is worthy of Le rue Peel and its Jet set side. Very welcoming we had 4 places on the terrace without any reservation. An iconic place to visit in Montreal. Hoping that the Mtl fire department will let us finish our lunch ;)
Incredible food, atmosphere and service! A big thank you to Michael, our kind and great waiter. Looking forward to it!
The city closed the restaurant on a Friday of the Grand Prix, for no valid reason, Bravo Madame Plante, we want to encourage our restaurateurs. Ferreira didnt give up!! Great Restaurant!!!!!! Ricardo Ferreira
I support small business owners!!
Grand Prix Friday to support.
Shame on the city!!!!
Good luck
Food
With all my heart!
Food
Strength to you. Courage.
After what Montreal and Valerie Plant put them through, we must encourage them and go to their Plant should pay for these losses with their management Plant destroyed Montreal
The city should be ashamed
One of my favourite spots in the city! A real Montreal institution being challenged. But they will win the fight. I am so ashamed of what Montreal has become. Courage Ferreira!
With all the pitfalls of an entrepreneurs life, coming across an insensitive body that gives itself the right to close a restaurant and cause financial losses without being able to negotiate or talk about it calmly without customers is unacceptable. There were surely more dangerous places in the city of Montreal than under the big top less than 3 meters from the building. We are lucky to have restaurant owners who work hard, at unenviable hours, making them close the place, throwing away food being prepared when there are people who are starving, its not possible how that hes stupid. They are going to kill F1, they are going to kill the city. Long live this owner who will still fight to continue doing what she loves, with or without the support of her city.
top
As a restaurant owner I feel terrible for what the city did to this restaurant,I m ashamed of this city and especially our MAYOR
Ferreira Café one of the most famous Portuguese cafes on Peel Street.. take advantage before the City of Montreal closes it, but NOT for the right reasons...
Staff very friendly, chef really cares about customers when asking for an off menu option because of allergies. Great place
Courage to you
Best place in town! :)
Does not care about the safety of his customers and does not respect safety rules despite having been warned weeks in advance. Then comes playing the victim when the firefighters act to protect the citizens.
I have never been to eat at this restaurant but after the story of the firefighters and Teressa, I plan to go eat at your restaurant and encourage you!!
I usually try to avoid Downtown at all costs and I have yet to visit this establishment, but with how the city is treating you, I will definitely make sure to visit soon. I wish you guys the best and offer my full support. The city of Montreal should be ashamed of themselves. It is unacceptable to treat hard working folks on the eve of the biggest weekend of the year.
I lost my evening with big clients because of your damn non-compliant terrace. Not strong at all.
I have ALWAYS loved their refined cuisine, the ambiance and the outstanding service. I wasnt there during F1... but Im supporting Ferreira following the wild attitude of the fire inspection department during the busiest f-d-s of the year. I cant wait for Valérie Plante to be removed... and I demand the dismissal of the director of the Montreal firefighters who carried out this despicable act!
Food
Very good place, nice atmosphere and a must. The city of Montreal put them in an incredible situation. They have no heart compared to Ferreire. I wish you all the success you deserve with the hard work behind the nights that you do not sleep thinking about the well-being of the customers.
The food was really good, especially the Rice with seafood and lobster as well as rice with duck. Octopus was super delicious. Salmon tartar needs more flavor such as soy sauce, for example, and more seasoning. Restaurants are always crowded during lunch break time . Some music will add a nice atmosphere to the place.
With all my heart to you!!!!!!
Excellent all round
I had a great time and food was delicious. A+
A bit stuffy. Great for business executives not so much for casual dining.
Great fish and excellent service. Very likely to go back especially if a good friend pays for the experience.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Ferreira Cafe for the Grand Prix, it was an experience that exceeded all expectations. Service was impeccable. Menu was a delightful mix.
Beautifully served fish in a buzzy restaurant. Excellent meal, great service. We had a very enjoyable evening.
Fabulous food, creative and delicious. Far too noisy to enjoy the complete dining experience
Best restaurant! The size of the dishes for the price was very good! The service was excellent: my partner and I had two main dishes that we wanted to share, the servers served us the portions directly on our respective plates. The waiter asks if you like your drink and changes it if necessary! The food is fantastic (not only in taste but the care in the aesthetics of the plate too). Nothing to say if you like seafood!
Excellent restaurant with excellent service! I recommend 100%
Awesome place and food - def get the seafood casserole!
One of the best seafood places in Montreal , great for a business lunch or a quick dinner after work . Service was a little slow and theres this feeling that theyre always trying to force sell you something . The greeters at the door are amazing though one of the best
Had dinner here last night on recommendations from a friend. Decor is awesome, very inviting. Waiter was knowledgeable and super helpful. Menu is Portuguese seafood oriented and small but many specials greatly expanded it. Wine list is impressive although not many bottles below $100. Had two restaurant standards: the black cod in port reduction and the bouillabaisse, both outstanding, accompanied by a slightly spicy dry Douro white wine. Pastais de nata for dessert that was better than what we found in Lisbon. Overall outstanding!
Not so familiar with Portuguese food, but I think that was a plus for us, everything we tried was a bit unexpected in addition to being expertly prepared and delicious. We had a lovely scallop ceviche that was nuanced, not the lime bomb you often get (which I also like!) Fish and seafood is the reason to come, but the carnivores will be pleased with the ribeye and other trad meat dishes. The bar was happening, the cocktails and mocktails were fun and tasty. Our server was a total pro. All around great dining experience.
Dining at the Ferreira Cafe was an exquisite culinary experience from start to finish. The moment we stepped into the beautifully decorated establishment, we were greeted with warm and attentive service that set the tone for the evening. The seafood offerings were truly exceptional, with the blackened cod standing out as a masterpiece of flavor and presentation. Each bite was a delightful blend of perfectly balanced spices and melt-in-your-mouth tenderness, showcasing the chefs impeccable skill and passion for Portuguese cuisine. The ambiance of the Ferreira Cafe is equally impressive, combining sophisticated decor with a cozy and inviting atmosphere that made our dining experience truly memorable. The attention to detail in both the food and the surroundings is evident, creating a perfect harmony that elevates the entire dining experience. For anyone seeking an outstanding meal in an elegant setting, I highly recommend the Ferreira Cafe. It is a gem that promises an unforgettable culinary journey. We will undoubtedly be returning to savor more of their delectable dishes.
Lovely place for couples, business dinners, and family. Their menu has a great selection for fishes and wines. The Seabream and the grouper fishes with veggies on the side as entrees, along with fish ceviche and sardines as appetizers were simply all delicious. Their sommelier also helped us choose a wonderful white wine to accompany our meals.
Ferreira is not was it used to be. We have been coming for 20 years and are now very disapointed by the declining quality. The cod was served with the skin on a puree of patatos (end of tale piece). The bouillabaisse was tasteless as if it cooked for 15 min.. and the grilled market fish was served with heated veggies and an orzo salad that could have come from any food court. We will sadly not be coming back.
One of the best meals I ever had. Totally worth the visit, will definitely come back. Had the ceviche octopus appetizer and the rice and sea food casserole with lobster.
Former colleague recommended this place to me if I visited Montreal, and this will be one of the top 10 restaurants on my list 1. Definitely ask for the bread service, the olive oil served tastes so good you want to drink it. 2. We ordered cod ceviche, octopus for starters...soft octopus grilled to perfection. Ceviche marinade was so tasty, very balanced. 3. Mains we took signature seafood casserole with rice and more octopus with potatoes. OMG the octopus was just unbelievable soft and buttery. Great service from the team, they predicted our every wish. Must stop if you are visiting Montreal, I envy the locals
Just one word from start to finish Wow! Everything was there. Impeccable service, tasty food and pleasant atmosphere. Nothing negative to say.
They serve wonderful Portuguese food in this upscale downtown restaurant. Excellent attentive service. Was not expecting that choice of music but good ambiance Parking: There are indoor parking lots in the area as well as meter parking on the streets but being downtown allow extra time before your reservation
What a lucky find! Food is exquisite and better than we found when we were in Lisbon. The wine list was crazy good too- had a rare Italian bottle we have difficulty finding even in Tuscany! Worth a visit for sure.
Masters of consistency.
Excellent service, great wine menu.
Unforgettable experience. Its been years since Ive been there and its still so good and welcoming. However, I wish someone had told me that there is cinnamon on your pasteis de natas.
Excellent food, very tasty and beautifully presented. Portions are small but prices reasonable.
An exceptional spot! Great food, service and atmosphere.
Truly a top experience! Hands down the best execution on grilled sea bass Ive ever had. Great touch with perfectly cooked veggies and humous on the side. If i had that every day and had to, I could give up steak, and I love steak! (I need to up my fish cooking game for sure). The sourdough bread to start was tasty. The octopus and squid appetizers were so simple but so tasty and again perfectly prepared. Great wine list, knowledgeable sommelier that made it fun. Service in general is excellent. Never ran out of water, and wine kept flowing. Next time Ill hope to sit watching the kitchen. On my list of top restaurants in the world.
Enjoyed the whole experience. A bit disappointed that they didnt have the octopus carpaccio. The terrine was good and flavourful. A good substitute I suppose for the carpaccio. Sardines were pretty good. Neat that theyre deboned. Wouldve liked a bit more of the tomato sauce. The seafood casserole was tasty and not heavy. Mussels I guess werent in season cuz they were mini - the shells were big but the meat was no bigger than a thumbnail. Wines were good. The sommelier was helpful too.
Outstanding service from the bartender who overheard that it was my guests birthday and surprised us with a delicious dessert platter on the house. Thank you!
Absolutely beautiful restaurant The staff is very professional. Food is delicious and served quickly even though it was a packed evening.
Food and service are out of this world! Michael Bergeron our waiter was honestly the most fun and nice waiter weve ever had. He was very attentive to our needs and he really knew his menu. Very professional. We had a view to the kitchen and the chefs were calm and everything was clean. And the oysters...omg...the oysters were the best ive ever had! Very meaty and fresh! I will definitely go back and totally recommend! Thank you
A great gourmet address in Montreal especially for eating seafood.
Great food and amazing service. A little pricey but totally worth it.
I had the chance to be able to experience this wonderful restaurant with friends and it was wonderful. From the food we ordered to the service we have received, this has to be one of the finest restaurants in Montreal. Great place to eat if you are in the city, I highly recommend!
We visited this place for dinner on Monday evening and it was full. The place had a great vibe to it. Service was fabulous - special mention to Sara who was serving our table. Every server took care of small details which was refreshing in post-covid era for me. Food was delicious and highly recommend getting the tuna tartar. The only thing which was not in sync was the bread served as it was not fresh.
Chic atmosphere in a magnificent restaurant. It really feels like were in Portugal. All seafood is fresh and delicious.
The oysters were not fresh, one was even dead!! Very disappointing, it s not like before when I went there in the 2010s
Top notch place, great service with amazing food
One of our best meals in Montreal, truly delicious, with a special mention for the seafood rice and the bouillabaisse. Very professional service. Only one downside: the customers at the bar, carefully distanced from each other, seemed to be there to solicit, just as the grizzled customers of the bar were obviously there to take advantage of it. A little disturbing! I removed the photos, I was indeed wrong, and the one of the bouillabaisse is blurry...
Recently, I had the opportunity to dine at Ferreira Cafe, and my overall experience was truly remarkable, largely due to the exceptional service provided by our waiter, Marco. Marcos service was flawless throughout our meal. He greeted us with a warm smile, making us instantly feel at ease. His extensive knowledge of the menu was truly impressive, and he suggested dishes that were not only delicious but also harmoniously paired with each other. One aspect that stood out was Marcos meticulous attention to detail. From recommending a wine pairing that perfectly complemented our meal to ensuring our table was set up to perfection, Marco consistently exceeded expectations. His patience was particularly commendable. Amidst the bustling atmosphere, he never rushed us or made us feel hurried to order or finish our meal. His professionalism and courtesy were evident in every interaction. In summary, Marcos exceptional service and attention to detail make him a standout waiter. I wholeheartedly recommend Ferreira Cafe and would be delighted to have Marco serve us again in the future. 5 Stars!
We flew to Mtl from Toronto for my birthday in January. Made a reso and told them were flying in to spend my bday dinner at Café Ferreira and it was fabulous! They wished me a happy birthday and were so sweet. We started with the grilled sardines (so yummy, we always have them) and a glass of champagne! Them moved on to the fish filet of the day (never dissapoints it was amazing) with the perfect Portuguese wine recommended by our wait person. And she surprised us with a selection of miniature version of their most popular desserts, on the house and more birthday wishes. This is THE best seafood restaurant in Mtl...I highly recommend it. The atmosphere is chic yet not intimidating at all, the food is fabulous and the service is exceptional! In a city where good food is the norm, Café Ferreiras food & service is hors pairs!
In all honesty! I highly recommend this restaurant! The warm atmosphere, impeccable service and exceptional food! A dinner, an evening 10/10 *** An unmissable culinary experience with fresh, high-quality products! Everything to please and take our taste buds to 7th heaven! Parking: 30 seconds walk!
SUPER
One of the best restaurants I have ever been to. I had the duck confit risotto and it was exceptional! No photo unfortunately. The service was so good, it felt special. Will be making a trip to Montreal again just to go to this restaurant.
Great service & amazing food!
Hello, I am going to tell you the experience that my partner had in this so-called great restaurant. It was during a Christmas dinner for his work. At the very beginning of the evening, she went to the bathroom and fell down the stairs because it was too wet and there was no sign warning her. It could have been a lot more serious but luckily nothing broken but huge bruising on the elbow and lower back and pain in the shoulder. She reported it to a staff member and he wiped up the water and put up the yellow sign. She asked for ice cream and he brought it to her but thats it. To this day she still has pain in her elbow. All this to say that there was no follow-up on their part or anything. My partner called the owner who had been informed of the incident by the employees because she was not present during the evening. I wonder if it had been a well-known personality she would have received the same treatment. All this to say that for a large restaurant it is quite disappointing. Vegetarian options: Very few options for vegetarians
Wow $$$$$
Foods were an amazing, and service was top notch. Side note- for desert, the tasting desert set will fit a family of 4 with no issues and you dont need to order any other dessert. Food : 5/5
The pealla AND the bouillabaisse with carabineros are both superb. The service is great: our server actually showed us the difference daily fresh catches! Duck risotto is good as well. The cold seafood platter did not worth its price though.
In the mid-90s, the owners goal was to open the best Portuguese restaurant in Montreal. He achieved his objective but above all he managed to remain so. The ingredients are extremely fresh and of high quality. You have to try the black cod, the must-have on the menu. The service is as good as the food served there. At lunchtime, Ferreira is where you will find a good part of the Montreal business community. Reserve if you want to have a place.
Ferreira has become our go-to restaurant for a date night! The food, the service, the atmosphere, everything is always perfect, we love it. Now engaged, we are thinking about the private room for our wedding reception, to see!
I plan many group dinners in Montreal and this is my go to - in either a private dining room or in the main restaurant. Everyone always raves about the food and service! Ferreira Cafe makes my life much easier as I dont ever worry about complaints!!
What a wonderful evening we spent at Ferreira Café! We ate the best seafood rice Ive ever had and in a very warm and classy atmosphere at the same time! From the welcome to the restaurant, the service and the atmosphere, everything was exceptional!! We will return there for sure! Vegetarian options: Mushroom rice Parking: Cours Mont-Royal underground parking just opposite
We ordered seafood rice and this dish is exceptional! The taste is incredible and the quantity is so generous! Excellent value for money! I cant wait to resume my business lunches in February and rediscover the beautiful atmosphere of my favorite restaurant in Montreal!
The food here was absolutely phenomenal! Will definitely come back
