Experience Gibbys with our vast selection of fresh fish and seafood, and expertly aged savoury grilled meats that are cooked to perfection according to Gibbys’ secret method.
Really nice spot for a dinner date. The French onion soup was delicious, very rich and cheesy. The steak was excellent and cooked well. Sorbet palette cleanser was great. The bread and pickles was a nice touch to start.
Amazing meat 🥩. The Wellington was really well made and the Steak a la Diane had an awesome sauce and texture. Salads were also very good, especially the blue cheese cream. Portions are very generous so go for appetizers only if you’re really hungry. Will come agin for the rib steak.
Came here on a Saturday night at 5:30pm for dinner and it was honestly mediocre, especially for the price you are paying. The portions are quite large for a fine dining restaurant which I can appreciate however, some of the food was under seasoned and the oysters still had some of the shell pieces left. As for the service it was decent. But some of the servers often mixed up orders with different tables. So overall I would not recommend this spot based on the price for the dining experience. 7/10.
Wonderful steak and service. I’d recommend asking to sit in the main dinning near fireplace or you could be seated downstairs or in the back if you have children with you. Our server was fantastic with a great personality that suited us well. Your meal starts with complimentary bread & pickles and meals come with a salad and side. We also had a birthday in our party and they were able to make a special cake upon request. We would dine here again. We were around $750 CAD w/o tip. Cowboy steak 2 bottles of wine ($120 each) Appetizers - French onion soup & escargot Cheesecake Cake Espresso
Had the opportunity to visit Gibby’s during MTL á Table and tried the four course tasting menu. Everything was delicious, and the steak was cooked perfectly. Wine selection could be better but the South African Shiraz we ordered was really good.
I visited with a group of coworkers. The service was excellent, they are very attentive and want to make sure you’re enjoying your meal. The portions are large and the steak was cooked perfectly. Some coworkers had the eggplant Parmesan (vegetarian option) which they really enjoyed. Cheesecake at the end was also very good.
By far the best French onion soup I have ever had. The amount of cheese was incredible. I felt full after the soup and honestly could be its own meal. Besides that, all portions were generous. The cheesecake was another highlight and a great way to finish the evening off. The atmosphere is great for an evening as a couple, or with family, friends or colleagues. It feels warm with a relaxed feel yet still refined.
Gibby’s Steakhouse in Montreal is a true gem for steak lovers. The chic and elegant atmosphere sets the stage for a memorable dining experience. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by a warm ambiance that combines sophistication with a welcoming feel. The quality of the meat is outstanding. What truly stood out during my visit was the exceptional service. I had some questions about other good restaurants in town, and the server was incredibly friendly and patient. He took the time to recommend several places, sharing personal insights that enhanced my overall experience. Whether you're a local or just visiting Montreal, Gibby’s steakhouse offers high-quality food and service that makes for a fantastic night out. Highly recommended!
eat very well Makes the mind better.
Very disappointing experience at Gibbys My wife and I chose the staples on the menu 22 ounce rib steak and the king salmon Ordered the steak charred rare . A seasoned and experienced grill person knows to select a steak for this order , large cap on the steak and much less fat than a medium well steak The salads very bland , medley of lettuces that did not mix well with very little dressing The steak chosen had a huge eye and lots of gristle , the complete opposite. Not enjoyable at all and I left more than half The asparagus not fullly cooked and the Monte Carlo potato very dry and small My wife had a huge piece of salmon that was undercooked and under seasoned with a huge potato. Service was not overly polished and not very friendly. Definitely not worth the money , but the valet personnel were very polite
Had another Christmas company party there. This time we were disappointed by the food and service. Traditional sides were no longer available due to internal changes. Meat cut was stringy and hard to cut. Pepper corn sauce was im sure the powder Baton Rouge version from Costco and much less! Shrimp was dried out. Desert choices was none. Coffee well it was not as good as before and only one cup no refills and no chocolate squares at the end as before! They seem to have cheapened their menu. Time for us to move our Christmas party to another restaurant!!
Very nice atmosphere, excellent service. The only negative thing is that they informed me that my dish was not available after 40 minutes of ordering it, so I had to wait an hour and a half for my dinner.
Excellent food service and ambiance as always
Great place and excellent food
Super good! Sarah was great at serving. Thank you so much.
Everything is excellent! Food without fuss, very classic but super good. I found there a lost atmosphere from my childhood and as the daughter of a restaurateur, thats no small thing. The staff does everything to make you feel comfortable, in addition to being very charming. Theres something for everyone. My photos do no justice to the quality of the meat. Im still salivating... A 15/10! Bravo to this house.
We were a group of 25 people and the service was great! A big thank you to Benjamin for his quality service :)
Not a bad dinner out. We were Montreal and met friends who had also come in from out of town. The place is big and historic. Very comfortable inside although where we were seated had a slight chill. Our server was good. Appetizers were very good but steaks were pretty standard. Have had worse steaks elsewhere but have had better steaks out as well. Not bad but nothing really that stood out.
Bon steak!
Top notch spot for steak in Montreal, if not the globe. Great service and super food.
Mediocre food and service.
I everything about this place, just u have to know it s pricey $$$
We had our special night out on Dec 3 Rd 2024 Celebrating 42 yrs together Gibby s been part of this celebration 1982 I order the rack of Lamb & was told that the Mint jelly that they always serve with this dish was change the sauce that came with it was very good! But I wish they would have the option of either Mint jelly or the new changes. I really prefer the mint with this dish! Thank you for a very nice evening
Dietary restrictions: J.ai pris un carré d.agneau.. Food
We started with the burrata, which was fresh and perfectly creamy, highly recommend! For the main course, the filet mignon and rack of lamb, both cooked to medium-rare, were cooked to perfection. The service was impeccable. We ll definitely return
Go for the History, Not the Food or Service This was my first time at Gibby s, and after hearing so many good things, I was excited to try it. Unfortunately, it didn t live up to the hype. The evening started on a positive note. My friend and I were greeted by the hostess, and our jackets were taken promptly. This initial service was probably the best we experienced all night. Once seated, the waitress arrived, and things seemed to be moving quickly at first. We ordered a dozen oysters, a cowboy steak, a salad with blue cheese dressing, Monte-Carlo potatoes, and a Manhattan to drink. The Manhattan was fantastic easily a 10/10. The oysters, which arrived after about 30 minutes, were good but not exceptional due to the accompanying sauces. From there, it was downhill. Service: 4/10 The service left much to be desired. For example, I had a bottle of Pellegrino with a quarter left, and the waitress attempted to take it away. When I stopped her, she poured the remaining water into our glasses without a word and walked off. Later, when we were served regular water, she filled my glass to the brim, making it difficult to lift without spilling. On the positive side, at least the alcohol arrived promptly. Salad: 1.5/10 I ordered the blue cheese dressing salad, and it was disappointing. While the lettuce was crisp, the dressing was terrible. I love salads almost as much as steak but this one was a letdown. Steak: 4/10 We ordered the 36 oz cowboy steak rare, and while it was cooked to the right temperature, it lacked flavor. Honestly, I ve had better steaks at The Keg. For the price and reputation, I expected much more. While the size was generous and enough for two grown men, the taste was underwhelming. Digestif: 5/10 The lemon digestif was fine nothing special, nothing terrible. Overall: If you re planning to visit Gibby s, understand that you re paying for the name and the historical ambiance, not the food or service. The total came to $400 with tip, which felt excessive for an experience that was mediocre at best. If you re looking for quality, head to Grinder instead you ll save money and have a better meal. Verdict: Skip it.
Delicious as always, the only thing I noticed is that the dessert have shrunk. I was quite surprised. Otherwise always a great choice.
We went in for a steak last night. The place is beautiful. Wonderful location, beautiful building. White table cloth, lights lit up everywhere. We ordered a bottle of the 2021 Berone Chianti. (66$) She brought over a 2022 bottle and said thats all they had but it was the same price. Should have been lower then not the same. Right off the bat theyre jurying you and giving you something of less value to charge the same. I own three wineries as she went off on it being the same. Not off to a good start. We ordered two 15oz rib steaks. They came with a salad, pickles and bread prior. Pickles, salad and bread were really good. The steaks were flavourless and pretty fatty. She pushed buying one of the sauces. IMHO you dont sauce a steak. Coarse salt is whats needed, not table salt. Most of the dinner was trying to upsell us, bottled water, steak sauce, apps, desserts. All in all, the keg is where I would stick. Nice to try these overpriced places once in a while but not at all needed and it was mediocre. Enjoy!
Excellent dinner.
Hubby and I had dinner and loved the service and atmosphere. The food was good although I was not impressed with the quality of the beef. I had the filet and hubby had beef Wellington. Steaks were cooked to perfection and appetizers etc. were great. I loved that they served dill pickles along side the bread. Pickle lovers will definitely love this option vs bread.
Such a cool place to go eat!
Jaisson was truly amazing and gave the best service ever. We celebrated my friends birthday and it couldn t have been more perfect! Food was amazing and worth every penny. Thank you.
The restaurant has been sold and we can clearly feel a difference in the plate, we no longer find certain classics on the menu, such as Osso Bucco, their famous rice has given way to a rather disappointing and tasteless white rice. In the end, having visited the one in Saint-Sauveur in the last few weeks, we once again preferred the one in Place dYouville for the food.
Vitali is the man , great service
Amazing service food and amazing service ! I hope you get Vitaly at your table! Thank me later.
Old Montreal
Have been coming here for decades. The restaurant has changed hands and is no longer the same. Menu staples have changed - I dont want my shrimp cocktail in a bowl of ice, used to be better with the lettuce. Garlic shrimp appetizer - gone. The worst thing is they will no longer bring bread and pickles to your table until you have placed your order and now charge ten dollars to share a plate. Thats very low-class for a restaurant at this price point and historical reputation. I doubt Ill be back and told my long-time server how the changes are there are not for the better.
Very underwhelming experience. Service was subpar. Salad was wilted, steak was dry and cold and did I mention the subpar service? Sad way to celebrate a milestone anniversary. After informing of our special event during reservation they proceeded to sit us in the lower level, a very noisy and rowdy room which happened to be hosting a bachelor party. After requesting to be moved and hoping for service recovery it just went even more down hill. Waitress did not even refill our waters and hovered to see how much we would tip as we paid. Sorry Gibby s, but we won t be recommending you.
Im a little torn on what to say about this restaurant. The atmosphere was great, reminiscent of other low light steak houses. Our waiter was also great. Knowledgeable on the menu and always checking in. Im torn on the food b/c I think the remainder of my table loved their food. Lobster tail was apparently devine as was the lamb and steak for others. I had the filet but butterflied to cook it well but it ended up being overcooked. I would say this is not hard to do but it was a steak house so I expected a little better. I also had broccoli that was basically dipped in hot water. Needed a little bit more cook time. Butter didnt even melt on it. If you get desert, creme brulee all the way. Fantastic! Also expect a large bill going in. For 4 of us it was $500 US with only a couple of alcoholic drinks. So not for the faint of heart. Vegetarian options: They had one option, eggplant. I think restaurants forget that with groups, there is bound to be a vegetarian in the mix so offering several options is really a thoughtful way of allowing everyone a chance at their establishment. Kid-friendliness: Its not that its not kid friendly but there is really nothing for younger kids to eat.
A MTL classic
Perfect service, we never had to worry about refilling water or wine. Everything arrived on time, well prepared, with great attention. Perfect score.
I ordered the T bone steak. I could barely cut it and it it. What a waste
The entire menu is quite expensive, but the quality of the cuisine and service is worth the detour. We chose Oysters Rockefeller as a starter and Beef Wellington as a meal. It was delicious! Special mention to our server: the service was fast and attentive, we never lacked anything! Note that for birthdays, a cake is offered and a photo is taken (Polaroid style) The photo is then placed in a card, so that you can keep a beautiful memory of your visit For parking, there is valet service at the entrance to the restaurant!
One of the best dinning experiences, beautiful restaurant classy , romantic. The food was incredible dish after dish , very generous portions. The staff were so friendly and welcoming from the valet , hostess and servers. Our waiter (Kas) went above and beyond truly one of best, have never ever received this type of special treatment what a star speechless for words.
Gibby s is a consistently reliable steakhouse in a gorgeous Old Montréal location.
If youre looking for a steakhouse with character, Gibbys is a great choice. The ambiance and decor really transport you back in time with a cozy, homey feel that captures the history of the old port. From rustic wood accents to vintage decor, its clear a lot of thought went into making the space feel unique and warm. The food was tasty, especially the steak, which had a good flavor although the cooking was slightly uneven, it was enjoyable overall. The drinks were impressive, with a well-crafted cocktail menu that complemented the meal nicely. However, the price feels a bit steep for what you get. While the quality is there, it doesn t fully justify the high cost. Still, for a memorable dining experience in a historic setting, it s worth a visit. Parking: Valet is free
I gave Gibbys 3 chances in the last 3 years and theyve disappointed every time. This is a restaurant that relies very heavily on its history and pedigree and caters mostly to unsuspecting American tourists looking for a decent steakhouse in Old Montreal and Montreal natives who are clinging on to a relic from their past. The food in unquestionably not worth the price. The steaks are so chewy, that Id recommend ordering them medium-well because they become more tender the longer theyre cooked. The appetizers and sides are average;the Romanian style sausages were hard and tasteless, and I know because my wife is Romanian, and the side of rice they serve tastes as good as a greasy Greek dive. The service is friendly but slow and clumsy, despite the uniforms and overall look and for your money youre better off at any French restaurant nearby that will cook you a much better steak for less money...sorry Gibbys, I really tried my best! Also note, the restaurant doesnt offer a free extra side when you share your plate. Thats extra now.
Had a wonderful steak dinner with the most friendly service from Alessandro! Gibbys salad with bacon and croutons was absolutely
Best steakhouse in Montreal !
I visited this steakhouse on my friend s recommendation, and the lamb steak was good. The meat was tender and full of flavor, and the accompanying salad was fresh and delicious. This steakhouse has all the fundamental elements well in place, providing a satisfying overall experience.
My partners filet mignon was not properly cooked and was very robust (tough) for a filet mignon, however we had the impression that the server did nothing to help us. For the atmosphere we love this restaurant and we will not return because of the bad service. We certainly went wrong...The valets are extraordinary and they received a guy worthy of their excellent service! Thank you
Probably the most conflicted review I have ever written. The food was worth the price for the quality, but personally I found the baked potatoes and mushroom side underwhelming. However, thats just my personal taste and others may find the potatoes and mushrooms good. The rib steak was the best part and the only item I really enjoyed in my meal. Service was absolutely great, until the end. Seems like the server was visibly upset by their tip, and so decided to give us the cold shoulder in the end. Maybe I should have given more than $20, I thought that was a decent tip, but maybe its not good enough by Montreal Standards. But honestly what ruined the experience a bit for us, was the old couple next to us that kept staring at both me and my wife, making us feel uncomfortable. I dont know the reason, but did not appreciate it. Overall, it was a decent experience, but most likely will not come here again.
Gibbys is expensive. The service was excellent(Nancy) the food was great. But the place is perhaps too casual for the price you pay. The wine list was shockingly simple, with wine prices at around 2.5X retail value - which is what you would expect from a good Steakhouse - but the choices were boring. Either they underestimate their clientèles tastes or I over-estimate what somebody spending expects from a wine list. For an above average steak and a night out Gibbys is a certainly great quality but not great value. The Keg is where I would go for a night out surrounded by people in jeans and T-shirts who arent that into wine.
Parking: Free Valet Parking (only require a tip)
Fabulous dinner and service. A must visit location in Old Montreal if you want a memorable dinner.
I highly recommend this place to everyone because the food is so delicious
Everything was delicious! Service was great. Wedge salad dressing not as good as would have liked ( supposed to be blue cheese dressing).
Great steakhouse
A bit pricey but oh so good!!!
Went to this place yesterday evening with a gang of girls and the food and experience was phenomenal. We took the MTL à Table menu (reduced prices) and the staff still treated us like the most high paying customers. Our server (Yvon) was so courteous, attentive to detail, kind and patient. They really go the extra mile and wrap up your food for you in a bag and just make the experience very memorable and high end. The portions were huge and the quality was out of this world. Congratulations to the whole team! We will absolutely be returning!
Great place, great food and great service.
GREAT meat , friendly service
Decent steak, wouldnt say amazing, had a decent time overall, only wish the sides were a bit bigger
Had an amazing experience at this restaurant, the steak was done perfectly.
Quite expensive as a place, but the servers and the food are 10/10
Impeccable service and food! In addition to the seafood tower, we ate the best onion soup ever wow
Legendary spot that is always a must in Montréal!! Get the lamb!!
Very good but a bit too pricey
Excellent meal for solo business traveler. Fantastic atmosphere on a cold November evening.
Excellent steak and service
The food and staff were lovely, and the price was appropriate.
Delicious steakhouse in old Montreal! They cook their steak to perfection! The ambiance is also super nice and cozy. 100% recommend and we would come back again!
My girlfriend and I ate at Gibbys on November 15th, 2024. We were severed by Tammy, who is by far one of the most excellent servers we have ever had. She is what all waitresses and waiters should strive to be like. Even though one of our steaks was slightly undercooked, Tammy made sure to get it fixed without us even asking. After dinner, she went out of her way to ensure we got the two desserts we ordered at the beginning of dinner, (despite being told they were out) She is a phenomenal employee and a big reason why we will return.
Very nice experience in a historic area setting. The stone walls and the elegant and warm decoration. Food excellent everything I ordered. However, personally I liked less the presentation of the sorbet in a small bowl, I thought in a small buffet . The friendly service also nothing to say.
This is by far one of my favourite Montreal institutions. One of the best steakhouses in Montreal. Absolutely everything was delicious, from the drinks, oysters, steak and even the lemon meringue tarts were outstanding. What made the experience so flawless was the above and beyond service provided by the manager on duty Adil, he s cultured and passionate at what he does. He is a true gem of the industry and his passion translates into his dedication to his guest at Gibbys. With the upcoming retirement of a longtime manager in December , Adil is a worthy replacement and will definitely ensure the true legacy of Gibbys to transcend into time . Thank you for the wonderful evening and hospitality.
Thank you for this warm moment, the service is excellent and the meat is creamy. The establishment even paid attention for my birthday, bringing a cake and taking a photo of our group using their Polaroid! Thank you for everything and good luck!
The crab cake and beef wellington were delicious. We also received complimentary bread and pickles which was a lovely surprise. The service was excellent as well.
The steak was absolutely delicious. Definitely in my top 5. Service was excellent. We shared a steak since the portion is huge. And enjoyed the fabulous creme brulee for dessert. It was really loud, but thats because we were seated by 2 large parties. I recommend it!
Best onion soup ever!! Ribeye Steak was really so good.
I came here for my anniversary with my boyfriend and it was incredibly special. I got the filet mignon and he got the salmon both of which were perfectly cooked and amazing. Our phenomenal server Kas recommended I get the mushroom sauce with my filet and I would definitely recommend. The meal comes with homemade pickles and bread to start, a salad, and a lemon sorbet pallet cleanser. When it was time for dessert, we were brought a whole cake for our anniversary and our server Kas took a polaroid photo of us which we will cherish for a long time. The night was just perfect, as was the food, and when I come back to Montréal I will absolutely be stopping at Gibby s again.
WOW! Gibby s did not disappoint! the service was amazing & ambiance dim and relaxing. The onion soup was great! steaks were very good and the potato was excellent. **Parents, do everyone else dinning a favor and don t bring young children
Food was awesome, they did run out of the Beef Wellington so disappointed I was unable to get that. But the Filet was perfect.
Been here couple times. By chance seem to always be in the basement. Service is top notch no complaints. Food is right there decent portions but still pricing my opinion is a bit much. There is alot of options to go everywhere for cost of dinner here. Steak was cooked as its suppose to be....salmon was touch on uncooked side could a used little more time. Probably will adventure to other places and not be going again
Perfect welcome and meal
Vegetarian options: Eggplant Parmesan Food
Environment is cozy medieval style, the pickles and lemon sorbet in between courses were nice touch that brightened up the experience. We had filet mignon and rib steak, although both were ordered as medium rare, they were a bit closer to the rare side and we had lots of leftover of rib steak due to the connective tendons and fat presence. Whiskey strawberry sour was one of the best I have ever had, the Gibbys old fashion was quite pleasant as well. Crème brûlée had vanilla bean scattered on the bottom, which is quite strong but intensive.
Amazing food. Great staff.
10/10
A very nice experience. This is a restaurant that I would describe as luxury. Its not the most expensive in Montreal of course but its the kind of place to go for an occasion like a birthday for example. What I immediately liked most was the mix of a distinguished but friendly atmosphere. The menu is very good, the meat is cooked adequately and the service is very good and avoids the classic errors that other restaurants can make regarding good manners, which has often pleasantly surprised me. Kid-friendliness: Probably not a very good place to bring a child unless they are old enough to behave adequately without crying out loud
Steak Wellington is really perfect
I loved the quality of everything!!! The pickles! The butter! The minced bacon (Although I don t like most of the bacon tastes in other places!)! The wine collection and above all the STEAK The restoration of the old barn is very well done also! And thanks Alison for such a great service Wish to be able to go back ASAP
Food was excellent. Great portions. Maybe slightly overpriced but the experience made it worth it. Vitali was our waiter and my wife and I both said he was amongst the best servers we ve ever had. Truly luxurious atmosphere. Would 100% recommend
The steak was delicious, but the server was very friendly, so it was a special experience. From the menu explanation to the service, they were very friendly and cheerful, so I was able to have a pleasant evening with my family. Its a pity that I couldnt give the server an extra tip When I ordered the main menu, they gave me a salad, lemon sorbet, and mint chocolate, and the main menu, steak, was also large, so I was very full after eating it all. It was a good meal! :)
We heard great things about Gibbys so we were excited to try out the food. Unfortunately, the service and food was not up to its expensive price tag. I got the Rib Steak and asked for Medium Rare and it came out almost raw. Not to mention, they need to season steaks that thick better. It tasted more bland than it should have. I would had asked for it to been cooked more but the server didnt come and check in on us for 20 minutes...at this point, we had been there for over an hour and a half. We were just ready to get out of there. On a positive note, the pickles are delicious
Great
First off, DO NOT GET THE TOMAHAWK STEAK! Maybe dont even get Beef Wellington, one of those takes an absurd amount of time to cook and itll just sour your experience while youre at the end of your second drink wondering when the main course will come out. Otherwise, Id say the staff was very nice, while a bit tight in space the atmosphere was nice as well. I enjoyed their Manhattan and would say its one of the best Ive had. I just wish I had ordered something else that wouldve taken less time to cook. Their gravy and sides are also very nice.
Best food and great service! Enjoyed our dinner a lot
For your fries -0- forget your black fries cooked in oil past date bitter taste for the steaks at $77 it was good we didnt have the choice to change tables to go to another floor we didnt was in a freezer!!! Total ok experience for 4 + or - $700 for dinner
We spent our 25th wedding anniversary visiting friends in Montreal back in 2006 and we were just talking about Montreal and I mentioned having dinner at Gibbys. It was such a wonderful memory that I wanted to leave a review. The experience that night was unforgettable...even all these years later. Thank you for your attention to detail, your attentativeness to your guests and your dedication to serving the best food experience possible. You are etched in my memory and I am forever grateful. Laura F. Saluda, NC
Clearly a 5+ dining experience
Great food, great value, great atmosphere & Solomon provided excellent service!! & the mango lychee mocktail was absolutely delicious!! & my friend just loved the Arctic Char (which she had never had before). Thank you/Merci!!
The only restaurant that really values what you pay, the quality of the food and the preparation in addition to the generosity of the dishes and different services. Staff who really deserve a good tip for excellent and attentive service. For a perfect evening for birthdays because a unique attention that stands out. Just mentioned when you make the reservation that it is for a couples anniversary or for a person, you will be more than pleasantly surprised. Ambulance calm and conducive to discussions where we can finally understand each other with period decoration. Several fireplaces for a perfect romantic atmosphere. The only restaurant we like to go to and treat ourselves to.
This was my first time visiting Montreal and had two truly sublime dining experiences at Gibbys. The Beef Wellington and beef carpaccio are truly phenomenal dishes. However, Jaisson, delivered such an exceptional experience that we decided to make a second visit before concluding our trip in Montreal. Again, Gibbys delivered another spectacular experience. Vitali was not only knowledgeable of the menu, but also provided insight into the history of specific dishes, Gibbys architecture, and its significance to Montreal. The quality of food and level of service that Gibbys delivers, rivals - if not supersedes - some of the best restaurants back home in Las Vegas. My next trip to the beautiful Montreal will surely include a visit to the fabulous, Gibbys.
Perfect for an extremely special evening
We had a wonderful celebration here with a perfect old-school steakhouse experience. Food and cocktails decadent perfection, atmosphere homey and elegant, service attentive and friendly (shout-out to effervescent Sarah!) It was exactly what we hoped for in Old Montréal! Get the beef wellington!
Im a fan of Gibby for 4 years, I love to come here for all the holidays, best service, best dining experience, I always order the well done fillet steak, but today is the first time I have eaten a dry, hard to swallow steak, I dont know if the chef was changed and a cut was made in the middle to make it well done. But the beef lost all its juice. Parking: it is so nice
Service is so slow with infrequent check ins. It took nearly two hours to get main course with only one app and a salad. No mashed potatoes or Mac n cheese as an option for sides. No Coke products. Rib eye was ok. It had some gristle. Filet was phenomenal.
One of the best places Ive been! Those pickles!!
I had a very unfortunate experience at Gibbys in September. During dinner, the waitress accidentally spilled an entire glass of red wine on my white shirt and pants. While they apologized and assured me that they would pay for the clothes since they couldn t be washed, the follow-up was incredibly disappointing. They gave me an email to send, which I did right away. I received a call two weeks later from the manager, who said he would look into what they could do and promised to get back to me the next day. However, its now been over two weeks since that call, and despite following up with another email and a call, I still haven t received any response. For a high-end restaurant like Gibbys, this level of service is unacceptable. They did not stand by their word, and the lack of communication is very frustrating. Very poor service for what is supposed to be a top-tier dining experience, and I still have no resolution to this issue.
I know you look at the comments to get an idea of the restaurant and the menu! Not complicated, stop looking, you get the beef wellington!
Simply one of the greats, the service is high end, the food is simple but good and the produce is of high quality, the price is reflected in the quantity & quality from the entrées to the deserts. I have nothing to say except call and get a reservation asap this is a must try of montreal a true staple. Vegetarian options: Its a steak house so they have a lot of side dishes that will qualify and will fill you up the salad with blue cheese dressing being a no miss amongst them. Parking: This is street parking in the old port of montreal .... but there is a valet service ! Kid-friendliness: Its a grown up restaurant without anything being too loud but im sure that kids are welcome Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair accessibility is there.
Oh, Gibbys! What an experience it was to treat my wife for her 28th birthday. The service was impeccable, with continuous attention to our needs, and plenty of delicious bites to enjoy while waiting for the main course, which was simply incredible. Special thanks to Vitaly for being so knowledgeable and friendly. We even received a huge, in-house-made cake for Madame that we couldn t get enough of! It was definitely worth spending a little extra for such a memorable night out.
My first time in Montreal came with a lot of good eats, especially from Gibbys. From the seafood tower to the steak, I enjoyed every last bite (the bread was also addicting). Our waiter was incredible. He was highly knowledgeable of the menu and all the services/options the restaurant had to offer, he was rapid fire, quick witted, and very personable. The rest of the staff was also so pleasant; one of the managers there helped us with some night life suggestions and since we were a bachelor party group that was such useful info. We got there just before it go VERY packed, which goes to show just how great this place is all around. I recommend it highly!
Unfortunately, I would have given 5 stars a few months ago but a few things have changed for the worse since: the menu taking away staple dishes such as the chorizo, the Gybbys salad is completely different and not in a good way, many items from menu were not available, management or the kitchen is clearly cutting corners. People from our party were sick after the meal. Hoping it was a one time issue because this place is usually impeccable.
Exceptional service and food. Highly recommend.
Thanks to the Manager Adil, our engagement dinner of 60 people was great. He made the experience exquisite! Thank you so much Adil for the great service and for taking care of us
Is expensive but worth it for the amount of food you get
I cannot say enough how amazing our night was at Gibby s. From the excellent chowder, to the perfect lobster tail, the food exceeded expectations. The sorbet cleanser and little vacuum to keep your table clean, just the right touch. Luke, our waiter, went above and beyond to give us great service. Gibby s holds a special place in my heart, as I was here years ago with my son, so this memory tour was extra special.
One of the most delicious Filet mignon I have ever had in my life . Highly highly recommended
Incredible!!!!!!!!
I wanna say a huge Thank you to VITALIY HE WAS REALLLY KIND AND REALLY polite PERSON. I never eat a steak but I just asked him to get it well done and he got it as I wanted. My family really likes this please. I would ask the Management stuff to hire more people like VITALIY. He knows what he is doing! BEST LUCK OF EVERYTHING! Will see u next year! THANK Y TO VITALIY ONE MORE TIme ! And then A valet guy was also really nice! Parking: The best employees who is doing everything even tho in a running days)
I came yesterday with my partner, it was our anniversary. We were visiting from Toronto and looked for a very nice place to enjoy dinner to celebrate. She heard very nice things about this place which led us to have high expectations . We were very underwhelmed. I have been working in steakhouses for nearly 8 years and have been in the service industry basically my whole life. To add.. I hate writing bad reviews, as someone who works in the industry I understand that bad days happen. Now for the awful experience: Our waiter was not hospitable at all, nor did he seem to know the menu very well. We asked about the rack of lamb and he guessed about how many pieces it was. Furthermore when I asked to order just appetizers for now, I was told I could not and had to order everything at once. We also expressed it was our anniversary and the waiter did not make us feel special at all. His response was cute, are you ready to order ? . Anyways once we ordered everything, it felt very rush he did not try to romanticize the food nor give us a wine pairing. It was very basic service. The table was not de-crumbed between courses, wine was poured in the back and drinks were brought out not on trays but by hand. Now the food comes out, and the highlight were the oysters. They were fresh and very large. We wished we ordered a dozen instead of half. As for the French onion soup, it was alright, way too much cheese. I got the wedge salad and my partner got the green salad. Both were mediocre. The steak was the VERY underwhelming part. We both got the filet and it was very dry and quite bland. Steak if my favourite food and every time I order steak regardless of how it is cooked I will finish it. I barely got through half of it and had to stop due to how it tasted. As we finished our meal there was another waiter that was serving a table next to us who was very hospitable. He would stop by our table on the way to the back and check in on us more than our actual waiter. I don t recall his name but we had a quick conversation about his home country Kazakhstan. He was phenomenal and I even thanked him on my way out, and wished we had him to serve us instead. Finally plates are cleared, then I ask about the lemon sherbet that we are supposed to get with our meal and the server says that there was a mishap with the fridge and there is no more sherbet. However, there was no substitution for it nor was it mentioned at the beginning of service so that we were aware. He didn t even offer us the dessert menu, after that interaction he said bills? . It felt as though he was trying to kick us out. When he brings the bills he asked about the experience and I told him that it was not good. How the steak was dry and overall underwhelming experience. He just said u should ve told me in the beginning as he gives the machine to my partner to pay. Not sure how long he has been serving for, but he served the table behind me and they also had a terrible experience. They had to get 50% off their bill. Anyways, I should ve spoken to the manager at the end but I did not. We just wanted to get out of there. I will not be recommending this restaurant nor coming back. We spent about 400$ for 2 people, for very basic steak and bad service ( not talking about the amazing server from Kazakhstan). You are better off going somewhere cheaper, you will probably get better steak and service.
I ate oysters and got severe food poisoning. I ordered 12 for a table of 4. I felt a stomach ache a few minutes after eating it. Im still recovering from it 2 months later.
Great food and service with a cool vibe
Great food and service in a cool building in the old town. I m a vegetarian and had a great meal with the eggplant parmigiana and a chocolate mouse. Vegetarian options: Great eggplant parm, salad, house made pickles, bread, and a selection of deserts. Good options for a steak house.
We had such an amazing experience at Gibby s! If you are looking for somewhere to host your event look no further! Not only are they well organized and communicative during the planning process but they are incredible during the event! We received so many compliments from our guests and everyone loved their meals! The wait staff was friendly, patient and made us feel listened too all while serving us quickly with delicious food! Thank you Gibby s once again for making our wedding day perfect!
Our server was not up to Gibbys
Great experience with perfectly cooked rib steak and a very knowledgable waiter (Rainer) who helped us make the right selection. Nice warm bread offered at the start and then some very good sorbet as a palette cleanser before the main. Cosy atmosphere inside and centrally located in the old town. Would recommend
High end restaurant with great portion size, service is outstanding
Right in Old Port in a beautiful location. Celebrated a birthday here and Caroline our server went above and beyond to make it extra special! Food was amazing and the portions are generous we had to take some to go. Would highly recommend.
We heard about lots of good sides about this restaurant and checked with the google map reviews before deciding coming for celebrating birthday. Turned out the experience was really bad. At the beginning, we asked the waitress for regular water without ice and she just said okay and still gave ices in our water. Then when she was taking orders, she seemed very impatient and rushed on finishing. After our starters came, here comes the most ridiculous part, I put my soup aside since my partner wanted to finish it. The waitress came to our table and without asking if were finished, just took it away before we had time to tell her not to. Very impolite and rude. Didnt feel like she wanted to give good services. As for the food, they were all too salty. The steak was dry and tasteless. The lamb was worse... Overall if youre looking for some overpriced dishes with bad services, just come to this place Im sure youll love it!
It is one of the Worst pricy restaurants I have ever gone I asked for a cup of hot water twice but it never came, the first time I thought maybe the waitress was too busy and didn t hear it, so I asked her a second time, and she also repeated my request but still didn t bring it., For the plate of bread since we had finished I left them aside easier for the staff to take it away, but it just stayed there until the end, even though they had come to our table a few times. However, when my partner put the unfinished soup on the side the waitress just took it away without even asking. When the main dishes arrived, we were given the same forks and knives to use again, which was surprising for a restaurant of your reputation. Fresh cutlery should be provided with each course to ensure a more hygienic and comfortable dining experience. Also, the food was horrible too. This restaurant is not worth it for you to spend any money on it
I love going to Gibbys the Manager, Adel is so pleasant to deal with and so accommodating I look forward to seeing him every time I go as well. The hostesses are amazing. Everyone treat you so well. The food is delicious and the service is perfect Beverlee.Friedman
The service and food at Gibby s was nothing like ever before. Our server, Ivan, was simply amazing. I can t say enough about how delicious the food was. I d come back to Montreal just for this restaurant.
Overrated. I ordered a well done coocked meat it came carbonized
Delicious food, relaxed environment
Brilliant place - price includes salad and amuse buche with any main course. Atmospheric and good service
Delightful and meticulous.
Lovelyyy dinner with my brother and siss-in-law Parking: Valet ! Food : 5/5 |
Nothing to say, very good quality, very good service! The prices may seem expensive at first, but in the end the value for money is great! I will go back.
Steak cooked as requested, generous portion. Potatoes Monte Carlos excellent.
Very disappointing. I havent been to Gibbys in years. Food was very average and came way too rare (for a medium rare). I had even asked the waitress how their rare was. When I showed it to her, she said thats how our rare is. Asparagus was overcooked, bread had a slight freezer taste to it which was a huge let down. I dont know what happened but it is far from the Gibbys that I used to know. I will not be going back again.
Food was excellent. Service started off good and then was unattentive. AC wasnt working so it was very stuffy inside with a full restaurant
Ambience coming in the restaurant was good. Server introduced themselves to others and asked for their choice of water, but not my table. Food was either bland or salty. Server did not listen to us and flooded our salad with bacon. We had to ask them to refill our water after 20+ minutes. Ordered the Diane steak and it was cold and incredibly salty with no pepper at all. The Monte Carlo potato had more flavor than the steak. Would not recommend and will not be coming back.
I had an amazing dinner at Gibbys, perfect for a romantic night out. The filet mignon was cooked to perfection, the ribeye steak was mouthwatering, and the sides were delicious. Cozy ambiance and great service made it even better. Highly recommend for date night! Parking: You don t have to worry about parking this restaurant offers its own valet service, which you can easily tip. With downtown streets often packed and parking hard to find, just leave your car with the valet and forget about the weather or finding a spot.
We went for a family dinner to Gibbys. It was incredible! Definitely will be returning .
Amazing service and amazing food!
I wasnt very hungry when i dropped in but lost my appetite when I saw the prices. I end up ordering a couple of drinks and a blue cheese salade, which was 1/4 of a lettuce with croutons, bacon and crappy sauce. If youre gonna charge so much for the menu at least upgrade your bathrooms and have all the stalls working. Cynthia my waitress was a 5 stars.
This was my third time eating here and the food is, as always, phenomenal. Our server, Cassandre, was very attentive and sweet, we loved her!
Got steak sandwich cooked medium. It was tough as a rubber boot
This restaurants reputation for food, service and atmosphere is renown for a reason! What a great experience my group had at Gibbys. We were a group of 14 all served quickly and at the same time. Definitely coming back!
Absolutely amazing! Very classy place, beautifully designed and amazing service. Prices were a bit on the expensive side but you pay for the quality of both the meal and the service
The place the food all is so good, i like the steak and appetizers was so good
The quality of the food at Gibbys deserves to be among the best French restaurants in Canada. When coming here, no one can ignore the signature dish like beef wellington. My sister and I chose the following dishes: Beef Wellington (main course) ~ $85 Diane Steak (main course) ~ $83 Crème Brûlée (dessert) ~ $18 Domaine Jean Jacques Confuron Chambolle Musigny 2020 (French red wine) ~ $286 one bottle Cosme Palacio Rioja 2018 (Spanish red wine) ~ $52 one bottle Once you try the beefsteak here, you will understand why Gibbys is known as the best beefsteak restaurant in Montreal. The medium rare beefsteak at Gibbys is always perfect, the red meat is tender and juicy, melting in your mouth. Every dish is prepared with high quality ingredients and beautifully presented, showing that Gibbys is a classy restaurant. Besides the excellent beefsteak, the sauces are equally delicious, but the most favorite is the Bordelaise sauce a classic French sauce named after the Bordeaux region of France, famous for its wine. The sauce is made from dry red wine, bone marrow, butter, chives and demi glace sauce. I chose the Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron 2020 (France) and my sister chose the Cosme Palacio Rioja 2018 (Spain). The 100% French pinot noir I chose was a typical Burgundy it had rich, ripe fruit aromas, especially on the palate, with intense red berries, and earthy aromas such as forest floor, dried leaves and bay leaves. On the palate, the wine was ripe and sweet, quickly turning sour and the finish was a strong one with a certain structure. This Chambolle Musigny is very elegant, very pleasant on the palate with a strong, expressive finish a great wine to accompany a meal at this stage. The Spanish Cosme Palacio is a good choice for the price, a delicate combination of blackberries, plums, crushed stone, concrete, wet earth and fresh mushrooms. It had a rich flavour a complex finish that enveloped the palate. At Gibbys, this is the definition of a fine dining experience. Not only the luxurious space, quality dishes, Gibbys also affirms its class with professional service style. The plus point for Gibbys is the hospitality, enthusiastic and thoughtful service staff are always ready to advise customers on choosing dishes and choosing wine to go with. A perfect date night with my sister in yellow candles and melodious music, in addition, crème brûlée a classic French desert is the perfect ending to the meal. Price does not include 15% VAT and 25% tip. Total bill is over $750 for 2 people with 2 bottles of wine, a completely reasonable price. CA$377 / 1 person ~ 6.9 million VND (US$278)
Great meat great service! Get the Irish coffee!
Aldi, Jackie, and a wonderful team of people welcomed our family for our son s wedding tonight! It was amazing, the staff were all wonderfully smiling and nice, the service was excellent they went above and beyond to accommodate us! And the food was amazing! I can t say enough what an outstanding restaurant in the heart of Montreal! Congratulations for great operations!!
The best steakhouse I have ever been to. The service and the food were impeccable, and the valet is free! 100% will come back again
My first experience here. The ambiance was very pleasant. My waiter Alessandro was a nice and helpful person. The octopus was good but I have experienced much better at 40 westt. The rib steak was up to par and the side were simply delicious. How when I attend a restaurant at pay over 300$ for a couple , I would expect that any waiter pour the wine and water. At no time did anyone pour it. Very disappointed in the service. But I did tip myself for pouring it. Lol Whenever I attend a classy restaurant, the waiters usually share that responsibility. Another waiter saw me pouring the wine and never offered. Sad. That was my only negative experience. Hope the owner reads this post and corrects this because I really like this place. Note: the people that can destroy your business are your employees.
Service service service, with great steaks and amazing pickles enjoy
If Im being honest, for the price, the experience was not great. Ive been to Gibbys before. This time it felt like they were just not trying despite the exorbitant prices. Sad.
Wooow the service very good the food perfect
Superb evening thanks to Cass who served us like kings. From start to finish he knew how to make this event an incredible experience. From the origins of the building to the history of the restaurant, he was able to help us learn while entertaining us. The clear explanations of the menu and the answers to our questions guided us very well through the varied choices. 10 stars if I could give it
Amazing experience at Gibbys. Great looking place. Service was lovely and the food was fantastic
The classic steak house is done right and timeless. The food was impeccable, service was truly quality, and the atmosphere was nostalgic of an older time. If youre looking for a great dinner, come here sometime.
Our visit to Gibbys was wonderful. If we could give 10 stars to our server, Edmond, we would. He wad great. Food was top notch and the atmosphere was wonderful. The valet guy was super nice as well. All around great evening.
Food was 5/5. The bread and pickles to start were excellent. My husband said the clam chowder was the best he has ever had. I ordered 3 lobster tail dinner with Monte Carlo potato and asparagus. My husband had the filet mignon and a lobster tail with the same sides. The monte carlo potato is excellent. Unfortunately we did not know you could get croutons or bacon on your salad as our server never asked if we wanted any. Nor did he offer us a second cocktail or check to see how our meal was. The service was a 3/5 at best. That is generous. It was unfortunate as the other server working the room that night was excellent. What a difference a server can make to your overall experience. We told her we wished she would have served us when we asked her for the bill as our server seemed to disappear.
Went there on a whim, no reservation, but they found a spot to dine in upstairs. The service and food was amazing !
My husband and I drove down from Ottawa for our anniversary dinner. We had the absolute honour of being accompanied by Kas. He was genuinely such a gem. Explained every and anything to us. Was a delight while bringing us our appetizers and meals etc. I don t usually leave reviews, but my husband and I were so happy with his service. The food was great, but we ll be back just to see him. Thanks again Kas!
Came here for my mothers birthday. The decor was gorgeous, perfectly reflecting the Nouvelle France history of the building. The house salad is hands down the best salad I ve ever had. However, the mains were a bit of a let down. This might ve been because of the dinner rush, but the bathrooms were completely trashed. There was toilet paper and hand towel all over the floors. I brought this to the attention of the wait staff and they were very professional and got it sorted out quickly. Overall, wasn t a bad meal whatsoever, but was it worth the steep price tag? For me, it s a no.
Awesome experience. Very friendly wait staff and one of the best steaks Ive had in a while. Ribeye recommended
What a wonderful location. Really good steak and potatoes. The rest is sub par. Waiter did not know the wine list. (3x SAQ prices!) Save half the bill and go to the Keg. Food
The experience was good. Steak was good, service was good. I recommend.
Wait time is short, main was served right after appetizers. Location is perfect for tourists, being an attraction while also withholding its professional service Lamb rack and beef Wellington is definitely worth trying.
Gibbys is an establishment in Montreal and has some of the best steaks in the area. Not only was the food delicious, the staff were incredible. Visiting from the States, we didnt have any idea what were local, non touristy things to do. Our waiter Jean Marc took the time to create a list of landmarks and sites to see. He was super personable and made our evening enjoyable. We had a fabulous time at Gibbys because of the food but mostly because of the warm and inviting staff.
Phil was the most incredible waiter and we had the best steak ever here! Cannot recommend enough and cannot wait to come back again. Thank you all for a wonderful experience.
