I’ve had the privilege of enjoying Chef Masud Siddique’s incredible cooking since 1986 when we first met as Red Cross Youth Volunteers in Dhaka! From those early days to his time in Canada—where he joined us one unforgettable summer in Prince Edward Island, cooking up countless Bengali dishes—Masud’s culinary talent has always stood out. For over 20 years now, Royal Cafe in Montreal has been the ultimate showcase of Masud’s passion, precision, and mastery of Bengali cuisine. The food is absolutely extraordinary. From the most flavorful Tehari and tender Chicken Roast to perfectly spiced Shami Kababs, every dish is a testament to his deep expertise and love for his craft. The service and ambiance are warm and welcoming, but it’s the food that truly steals the show—each bite feels like a nostalgic trip to the heart of Bengal. Chef Masud has a rare gift for creating authentic, soulful dishes that bring people together. Whether you’re looking to host a Bengali-themed event or simply want to treat yourself to some of the best Bengali cuisine Montreal has to offer, Royal Cafe is a must-visit. I cannot recommend it enough!
Great food ,great price, good portions.
The Bangladeshi food was awesome..great mixed vegetables.. and the owner of the restaurant is very nice person
Absolutely excellent. I came here during my work lunch because I wasn't able to bring my own - a rarity. I love Indian food and I'm happy that I found this restaurant. The fries were some of the best I've had - not what I would have expected. There was a garlic mayonnaise of some kind that came with it that was also really good. The butter chicken was fresh and delicious. The sauce was excellent and the chicken was tender. $16 is a steal for food of this quality and with a portion of that size. I will definitely be returning here - probably on a weekly basis. I look forward to trying the rest of their menu.
Simple and unpretentious place, theyre all about the food and customer service and the price is right! Great customer service as always, Looking forward to trying out the rest of the menu! Their poutine is honestly very good, crispiest fries ever! Looking forward to trying the butter chicken poutine!!!
Friendly owner, large portion of food. Great price-performance
It was a really great experience in Royal Cafe. The service and the ambience was amazing. But most importantly was the food. It was by far the most tasty Tehari, Chicken roast and Shami Kabab - I had in Montreal. The owner Masud Siddique is a professional with 20+ years of catering experience and he knows Bengali Cuisine like no one else. A must recommend for hosting Bengali themed occasions.
***** (FIVE ) stars for the food. Very good food, for what it is this place ( more of a fast food style although it is NOT) and the price of a dish. Of course it would not be fair to compare it to a restaurant where I pay 100-150 $ / dish, therefore I can not give 5 stars either. The place is old and not renovated, but I come here for the food : Not for the service, not for the decoration. The taste is really good and authentic. Highly recommended if you like spicy Bangladeshi / Indian food. Chicken curry is delicious , so is the lamb. Owner is here most of the time which is great. It shows the passion that goes into the restaurant. Try it and most probably won't regret it. Being in a very quiet area...the schedule is weird...so is only good for lunch. Like they open at 11am and closes by 2.30 pm. Or 3 ...! Really cheap eats !
Attention! Restaurant to avoid! MAPAQ fined this restaurant $5,000 twice for unsanitary conditions, uncleanliness and, I quote, the possibility of contaminants, pollutants, all species of animals including insects and rodents or their excrement . At your own risk!
The best indian Halal food ever!!!!
Right near my office always fresh always great very friendly service
The great atmosphere created by clients and guests. Otherwise, the food is terrible 80% of time, the owner is rude to guests. It is in Bengali culture to smile and say everything is good even if its bad. How many of you as guests, arrived at an event happy, and heard the owner complaining about the client paying him for less headcount? How does a guest eat food after hearing that? Should guest just drop the plate and leave the event? I wish I could say sorry, I cant eat this food, that would create a scene, that looks bad for the host. I cant even deny an invite knowing the food is coming from Cafe Royal. This place is lucky to have a business because the Bengali community is loving and forgiving. Respect your clients and respect their guests. If youve any issues, take your client on the side, and discuss in privacy.
Very good
The rudest owner I have ever encountered. Employees do not wear hair nets and dont wash their hands after touching money and then handling food. Disgusting.
Amazing food; amazing owner; one of the best lunch spots in the area
Amazing food at a great price. The owner and staff are the best!

The food was great and the customer service was fantastic. I tried the curry beef for the first time and i want more. After ordering the curry beef i was going to order the chicken wrap but the owner told me it would be too much food, im glad he told me not to order it, i wasnt going to be able to eat it. Definitely gonna go back to try different dishes.
