Newcastle Cafe in Nanaimo

We went to the island with the intention of grabbing fish and chips from this place and do the trail afterwards. Arrived at 2:30 pm on a thursday and they said the kitchen is closed. We had to do the trail with an empty stomach. So unreliable, wouldn’t suggest to make plans over it.

Beautiful space and island. Paid $60+ for 2 meals that ended up in the garbage.

I was here last week. It’s now called Trollers on Land. I believe new operators this year. Sigh. I love this island and have been coming here for over 10+ years. I miss the bannock, seafood chowder and bannock tacos. They also served breakfast previously. Ok - need to stop living in the past! I ordered pop, prawn appetiser and ice cream - over $30…. Don’t come hungry…. You are paying for the view. Not sure if picture advertised reflects actual food served.

Best fish and chips EVER! The batter was light and crisp, and the fries were just perfect!

It was fun and the ice cream is terrific! So yummy! Very nice staff!

Really fun find here at New Castle! Grab lunch, snack, shop or ice cream. Staff is friendly. Building is cool! Great experience!

Best fries I had during my week-long stay on Vancouver Island. The Salmon Burger was delicious as well.

Not yet open on June 1, 2023. No food or drink available to buy on the island. (Jeff has some water and energy drinks if you’re really stuck.)
