Le Brunch Cafe Nanaimo in Nanaimo

Our neighbours recommended we try out Le Brunch. So glad they did. Super cute little place. The food was terrific. Service was impeccable. Highly recommended. Get yourself a reservation and try this little gem of a restaurant.

the hype is REAL! best Benny I ever had. make a reservation if you can (they are super responsive on their email!) and splurge on the fancy English muffin!!!

It was an easy process reaching out and requesting a reservation. The food was splendid. The service was great. The personality of the person serving us was so friendly and welcoming. He was easily making jokes and was attentive. Theres limited seating, and a couple of people were turned away due to no available tables, but not once did we feel rushed to vacate the table. My partner can easily lose his appetite or struggle to finish his meal, but he was repeatedly going Mmm and Oh wow. I dont think Ive ever heard him appreciate a meal so thoroughly after three years together! He finished every bite. We recommend the house made English muffins for sureee. Instead of getting a dessert, we splurged and ordered another entree of the French toast, so spent a bit more per person that people might typically. Were not from the area, but certainly would keep coming back if so. And definitely will when visiting again :)

Hands down the best brunch we ve had since moving here. The food is exceptional - unique twists on traditional dishes like French Toast - and the atmosphere and service are outstanding. Honestly feels like you ve been invited for brunch in Christian s home. If I could give six stars across the board I would.

We always have a wonderful time when we come here. The food is such high quality and the flavor is so good. It costs a little more than your average breakfast joint, but for the quality of the food and the portion size, we feel its a great value!

The duck confit benny was so delicious, along with the potato gratin. Wonderful, friendly atmosphere that Christian and his colleagues create I felt like I was in Europe or old town Montreal. Great to experience culture and passion.

Hands down the best breakfast Ive ever had. I was lucky enough to get their special for that day which was Venison and wild boar Tourtière Benny which was absolutely phenomenal. I also had probably the best London fog Ive ever had in my life. The inside is cute and quaint but small so reservations are very very highly recommended. The owners are super nice and couldnt be more fun and eccentric. It instantly became a top three spot in all of the Nanaimo for my wife and I and we will be back again and again.

Not exaggerating, the best eggs Benny I ve ever eaten, anywhere. My wife had the avocado toast and said it was the best she s ever had. As a bonus, the service was excellent. It s a tad pricy but very much worth it. What a hidden gem!

My last review for this great Cafe was about 11 ago. Since then, we ve been there multiple times for breakfast, brunch, High Tea and just this past Sunday for breakfast once again. And on each occasion, the food, the greeting from the owner (Christian), the service and the atmosphere have been fantastic. If youve never been to Old Montreal or Quebec City to sample their great food, this would be like transporting you there for the delicious experience. This continues one of our favorite restaurants in Nanaimo. Cheers!! ---- Review from 11 months ago ---- Simply put, this is best little up-scale restaurant you will find in Nanaimo. Service & food are excellent. Service is prompt and friendly. Owners from Quebec did a fantastic job with their menu offerings. Been here twice in recent weeks. This will become our go-to place for breakfast and lunch/brunch. Well be sampling their High-Tea service in a few weeks. Cant wait. Reserving ahead of time would be a good idea due to its popularity and great food.

On our last morning in Nanaimo we had some time for brunch and checked out this place. It s a small space but luckily we were still able to get in without a reservation. The owner and staff were all friendly and took good care of us despite being super busy. I had the tuna avocado toast, which was incredible. It s truly high quality ingredients and assembled so well. The fresh tomato salsa was the highlight of the dish for me (besides the smoked tuna which was decadent) - it adds such a refreshing touch that just brings the dish together. My only complaint is that I wish the portion size was a bit bigger or the toast came with a side. The price was expensive for the portion size, but for our last meal in Nanaimo I didn t mind paying a bit more and support this local spot.

I recently visited this restaurant without a reservation and was informed that there would be a one-hour wait. Despite patiently waiting for the full hour, I noticed multiple parties being seated while we continued to wait. This gave the impression that walk-ins are not welcomed or prioritized, even though no clear communication was provided regarding this. The overall experience was disappointing, as the staff seemed indifferent to our presence. When we finally observed the food being served to others, it appeared average and not worth the hassle we encountered. I would recommend making a reservation if you plan to dine here, but based on my experience, there are likely better options elsewhere.

The staff told us to wait just 5-10mins but turns out everyone who arrives later than us are all seated before us.

While passing through Nanaimo, we were attracted by your review rating. We quickly understood. We were served in Quebec French by the cheerful owner, Mr. Christian. We let ourselves be spoiled by a 5-course breakfast, starting with excellent coffee. Then, we treated ourselves to a starter of homemade creton rotis. The main course was succulent, authentic for a breakfast and very hot. Brief! Perfect! Everything was excellent. We left with the famous homemade Nanaimo bars. When I was looking to make a brunch reservation for Fathers Day on short notice, Chris and Mark were kind enough to fit my party into their busy schedule. I loved the restaurants design and character, and their food was truly amazing! Everyone in my group thoroughly enjoyed the experience. My only regrets were not being able to try some of the fascinating specials as well as their High Tea! Im determined to come back to Le Brunch Café next time Im in Nanaimo! This is a wonderful cafe located near the old quarter. A marvelously kept heritage building has been given a beautiful atmosphere. Our brunch was eggs Benedict, one traditional and the other with duck. Wow.! Everything was excellent. The owner and service staff friendly and attentive. Highly recommended. Edit: (Aug 2024) Oh I think we have been there about 6 times now. I think we like it..

Absolutely sumptuous food! Everything on the menu is delicious, fresh, and unique. The service is personal and friendly and I highly recommend reservations as walk in tables are very coveted. Today I had the daily special of a wild game Tourtiere Benny which was moist and flavourful and a dish I will be on the look out for in the future. Le Brunch is THE best brunch stop in Nanaimo!

Stopped by here for the first time and had an incredible brunch. Every single item we ordered was fantastic, but the smoked tuna toast was really something special. The local tuna was perfectly smoked and a generous portion, the herbs, pickled red onion and finely chopped veggies on top were fresh and zingy, and the garlic cream cheese tied it all together beautifully. Ill be thinking about that toast for a long time! My husband got the tortiere, which was authentic and delicious. Same with the smoked salmon and duck confit bennies. Not only was everything delicious, it was also very reasonably priced and the service was excellent. It reminded me of the food I had growing up out East. Well definitely make sure to stop here again next time were visiting Nanaimo!

Walked in to check out the menu, got instant attitude. I guess more customers are not wanted. If you are in the service/food industry, you should at least put half an effort in to treat a new guest with civility. Will never enter here again, you lost a local customer for life, good job.

What a wonderful surprise to find this beautiful brunch spot. We had salad, tortilla soup, duck confit benny and finally an espresso Nanaimo bar. Everything was absolutely delicious and both Christian and Marc were amazing hosts! This place has such a positive and uplifting vibe. An added bonus is Christian s beautiful paintings. This place is so cozy and welcoming. We were so lucky that we didn t have to wait. We will definitely be back soon

You know those times when you finish a meal, and you arent just happy and full, but also satisfied on an emotional level? Where you push your empty plate back, and just feel a perfect sense of satisfaction, like nothing could possibly ruin that moment of absolute contentment. This place makes you feel that way. Myself, my husband, our son, and both sets of our parents went for the set Mothers Day brunch. From the time I talked to the owner on the phoned weeks ago to make the booking, to the moment we walked out the door, it was nothing but friendly, amazing service. And the food, god, the FOOD. Spectacular and delicious. The amuse bouche was creamy and salty, with delicious texture. The salad was colourful and fresh, with a dressing that was a perfect balance of fruity and tangy. But the main dishes stole the show. The moment the crepes landed on the table, the smell of fresh seafood just filled the table, and they looked so perfect and inviting. The crepes were perfectly cooked, with just the right amount of bite, and the seafood was flavorful without being overpowering. The short rib eggs benny was what I had, and it was out of this world. Perfectly poached egg, on melt-in-your-mouth braised beef, with this insanely delicious sauce/reduction. Theres a reason the French are known for their sauces. For our 6 year old, they made french toast. Now, I actually am not generally a fan of french toast... but I had a few bites, and this converted me. Soft, a perfect level of chewy, spiced with cinnamon, topped with a compote and fresh whipped cream and just the right amount of sweetness. Finished off with a delicious, velvety, chocolate mousse, that paired perfectly with the fresh ground coffee. Thank you Le Brunch for making Mothers Day a hit. We will 100% be back. Absolutely perfect, 10/10.

Wish I could comment on the food, but I never had the pleasure. Went on Friday around 1030 and got put on the waitlist (totally fine), they gave me an ETA of about 25 minutes and they said theyd call me. I waited 40+ before I decided to go somewhere else. They never called.

Amazing food ! A local owned cafe, I went with my 2 boys teens and had one if the best brunches ever ! Got the special Benny, the quiche and the focatcha. The. We had an amazing lemon cheese cake and a carrot cake. Perfect presentation and even better taste. Harry (I hope. I pronounced his name correct) the owner made our brunch a real fun, apart from his 5 stars food, he was funny and engaging with everyone. Will definitely go back .

I do not recommend this establishment if you wish to be treated with dignity and respect. We walked in and the waiter with a french accent, whom we assumed to be the owner, immediately started complaining to us about the previous big group that had babies, and how loud and exhausting they were to deal with (pro tip: were not interested in kicking off our dining experience by hearing complaints from you about other customers). We ordered a latte, although one of our guests didnt get a chance to specify their drink order, and a plain black coffee was brought for them instead, which was not ordered (we let it go). I thereafter asked if it was possible to cook up bacon and eggs, or an omelette. The owner pretentiously scoffed and stated that this was a brunch place and they dont serve eggs. Funny, since we can order any and all the types of eggs we want at any brunch establishment around the world, including Le Grand Brunch at the Ritz in Paris, where they also actually have respectful customer service. After the owner left the table, I stated to my fellow guests that I decline to eat here, politely excused myself while encouraging them to stay and enjoy their experience, then walked across the street to another cafe. I later learned that when the owner returned, he first interrogated our table about where I had gone, and then berated the table for me being rude by having simply left to eat elsewhere. That was the last straw for them as well and they declined to order food and came to join me across the street. In summary, if youre looking for a hole in the wall with a poor guest experience from a pretentious pseudo-savant that talks behind your back, then youve found your spot! Update to owners response: The owner is being untruthful. I was in a very good mood and didnt respond, or raise my voice after I was scoffed at by the server. There was no scene created at all. I simply just politely excused myself from the restaurant. My behavior was very discreet in fact. The only people who were treated with disrespect was me, my fellow guests, and the previous table with children whom you complained about after they left. You can tell be your awful response that under the pretentious veneer of your restaurant youre actually quite malevolent people who have contempt for your patrons behind their backs. Very unfortunate, if they only knew.

In all fairness, I am giving Le Brunch Cafe a 3 star review, simply because, I like to support my local businesses. Our experince was really quite simple. We were treated disrespectfully before we even had a chance to walk in the door. My girlfriend and I were parked in front of the establishment for aprox 10 minutes, as we arrived a little early. At 1000, when the doors were opened, we stepped out of our vehicle and prepared to enter, when a man with a french accent, came out of the establishment, and informed us, we couldnt park there as it was for Bikes only, and told us Your welcome, I just saved us $80.00. (There indeed was a sign that we missed.) We thanked him very much, and proceeded to get back into our vehicle to move, when he proceeded to be disrespectful in front of other customers, and stated, You should also learn to park in between the yellow lines, it might be helpful for you beause your blocking the driveway. We were both expecting this gentleman to be joking, but he was not. He was serious, blunt, and very rude. We got into our vehicle, and drove to go to the Breakfast Nook instead, and had an amazing breakfast. We actually laughed about this experience as this fellow could have just kept his opinions to himself, but instead he felt the need to belittle us, in front of other customers, and therefore, has lost us, as returning customers. I decided to give 3 stars because in all fairness, we never had the opportunity to eat!! I am sure the food is amazing, as heard many lovely things about this establishment. I only hope he treats his customers with just a little more respect in the future. Good luck.

Amazing service! I came here today for my 25th birthday, and although they were understaffed the food came out so fast, incredibly fresh, and so so so delicious. I will be coming back the next time I come to visit my family! I would give ten stars if I could. An absolute must visit for anybody looking for something different

Had the pleasure of visiting this restaurant during a day-trip to Nanaimo from Vancouver and was blown away by how great it was. Awesome food, cozy atmosphere, and service was superb. Will definitely visit again on our next trip over.

AMAZING! We had heard great things about this place for a bit now and so we decided to check it out today for lunch. We were greeted warmly by Chris, the owner, and his lovely waitress. They were quite full, which was a good sign for the food, but we were not sure if we would get a table. They quickly shuffled things around to accommodate us, with a smile on their face. We were sold on their quiche and soup without even having to look over the menu due to the amazing description from Chris. We shared that and enjoyed every bite. One of us was vegetarian so we werent sure f they would have options, but they did for sure and it was delicious. The crust of the quiche was also made from potato so great for gluten free customers as well (not that we were but a bonus for those that are). We were treated with such great service the entire time, had some laughs, smiled lots and enjoyed some amazing food. We will be back for sure and will have to try the eggs benny because those that were being served to others looked amazing! I would recommend you stop by!

My girlfriend and I walked in and was told they were fully booked. As we walked across the street the owner Chris came out and yelled he could make some space for us. So glad he did because we have been searching for a breakfast place and have finally found it. The food was absolutely amazing! I had the soup and eggs Benny and if it was polite I would have licked my plate clean. Everything on my plate was delicious. You can really tell they care and definitely stand out from the rest. We cant wait to eat there again.

What a wonderful addition to Nanaimo Le Brunch Cafe is. I have been in many times since they opened and I have never had anything but wonderful, kind, and welcoming service from the owners. Not to mention, delicious and freshly made food and coffee. After reading the newest review on this listing, I was prompted to write one of my own. When you read these strange and mean-spirited reviews, it is so abundantly clear that most people have no idea how hard it is to run a restaurant. The countless hours of thankless work that go into carving out an identity, and the years of experience that are required to create an efficient and unique dining experience. I know the owners of Le Brunch Cafe care very much about the experience they provide. You can tell by the food, the warm service, and the fact that they spent a tonne of time and money to turn their space into a beautiful oasis, from the barely food-safe space it was before they took over. Note - Definitely worth going but call for a reservation before! What an absolutely lovely experience - so much so we went back the next day. We had the vegetarian eggs Benny with cheese sauce and it was delicious. Our daughter had a scone and it was not your average scone! It was presented with sides of marscapone cream, homemade lemon curd and berry sauce. The next day we had the quiche in potato crust with a terrific salad and a side of creton. Our daughter had their fancy French toast. Both were equally wonderful. Each dish is made with wonderful quality, care and attention. Highly recommend!!! We had heard so many good things about this place, and finally got to try it this past Sunday. Oh my, it was worth the wait. The eggs benny were the best we had ever had, right down to the homemade english muffin. The space is so cute, and the owners make you feel so welcome. We decided we had to take a couple pieces of the chocolate/orange cheesecake home for later and Wow! Amazing. They even took the time to present it in the take out containers with chocolate ganache and whipped cream. Such a delightful place all around. We will be back.

Great little brunch spot that just hits the spot. I had the vegan eggs Benny and it was 10/10. Fresh ingredients and perfect portion size. Would recommend to anyone. Chris was awesome and made the experience better with his great personality!

We had the pleasure of having brunch here yesterday. The owner takes such pride in his food, which was so delicious! Everything it seemed was made in house and the atmosphere was so quaint and inviting. Highly, highly recommend! We will be back when we visit our daughter again!

I only give reviews when places are truly amazing, and this little gem was beyond that! My friend and I went today with my 2 month old, and we enjoyed it so much. Not only was the service fast, the staff, ESPECIALLY the owner were also amazing, he was so kind and easy to talk to and you can just tell how passionate he is about his place, and how much he cares about good food and service! Cannot rave this place enough if you want tasty brunch. The eggs benny with ham was perfect on the house made english muffin, and the potato grit and fruit bowl on the side were crazy fresh! Fantastic Food, Great Location. It s a small space so I had to call ahead to get seated, but they were super friendly and very accommodating. Best breakfast I ve ever had in Nanaimo! We shared the scone with preserves, lemon curd and whipped marscarpone butter, and potato crust quiche with shrimp and spinach. So delicious, and the space is beautiful!!!

OMG!!! I came June 1st to try Polish cold soup Chlodnik: it was The Best I have ever eaten... and my family specializes in it. Smoke Tuna on salads with veggies: also the BEST! I must say that food in Le Brunch Cafe on Selby str. is the best, it is PURE culinary ART: fragrance, looks, tastes, textures all delicious. Carrot cake and Nanaimo bars also superb. Great soft music lingering in background allows quiet talking. Thank you Brigitte for letting me know! Congratulations to Chefs! And service is super nice too. <3 I highly recommend it !

Wonderful experience! We finally made it down to Le Brunch Cafe and wish we had gone sooner! They have such a creative menu with locally sourced ingredients and made from scratch items. The food was absolutely delicious and the service warm and welcoming. So happy to have this addition to the Nanaimo food scene! We visited last week and plan to go again this week Edit to add: We have now experienced their Afternoon Tea and WOW WOW WOW it was incredible. Excellent service and the food was GORGEOUS and tasted even better. So much variety, fresh and creative. The photos show Tea for 3 and no one left hungry. Highly recommend!!

Really enjoyed my breakfast here. Service and atmosphere are simply amazing - very nice little (very little) spot. Food and drink were quite good, but not much better than what Ive had at fairly average places (tough to do with breakfast). Prices were pretty high, but not unfair. Overall value was fairly good - I enjoyed it but would not return.

Without a doubt our new favourite brunch spot. The food is divine. The atmosphere is fantastic. The service is above and beyond. You can tell that everything that is made is infused with so much love and passion and skill. If you want a chance to slow down from the hustle and bustle of life and enjoy some of the best coffee and food, I d wholeheartedly recommend checking this place out. The brunch menu offers something for everyone, at insanely reasonable prices (considering the quality of food is so out of this world), and the high tea offers decadent treats and goodies and makes for the most perfect date.

A vegan and a meat eater walk into a brunch place... now usually thats a nightmare waiting to happen for one of the two but not this time. As a die hard spinach hater I was admittedly a wee bit scared when I saw the spinach on my vegan benny. I am not sure what they did to it but it was both tasty and not the texture I expect for spinach (which for me is a good thing). It was a medley of eggplant, mushroom, and some spinach topped with Just Egg (for those unaware that is a vegan egg replacement), some sort of vegan hollandaise, and some nice little sprouts for garnish. Its impressive if you can make me order spinach once and come back for more. They achieved that feat, Ive had it twice and will perplexingly enough for a spinach hater, order it again. Most vegans are a bit scared to try a restaurant that is not for vegans because a lot of the time vegan options are an afterthought. You can tell it wasnt just an afterthought. This place wants everyone to be able to get brunch and leave happy because they have options for pretty much everyone from gluten free, to vegan, to vegetarian to your average brunch connoisseur. I will admit I tried this place a few times before my review because the first month they had a few bugs to work out with the vegan menu. I promised Id come back when they worked the kinks out because they had pretty clearly put in extensive effort and I appreciate that kind of energy. I can quite confidently say they did work everything out so I hope any vegan who went before they perfected the benny gives them another shot if they havent already. After the first time, I have gotten the vegan benny twice. They did a fantastic job both times. One time I got an admittedly weird but frankly great cold soup made from watermelon which in a hot July day was definitely what the doctor had ordered. I went with my parents one time and my partner another. My dad is a man of few words so I didnt get much out of him but my mom said they made the best quiche she had ever had which is pretty high praise from my mom. My partner got the duck confit benny and I think he had a religious experience. Definitely going to have to go again. Awesome place for diverse dietary needs but more than that, its just a solid brunch joint.

Im am an admittedly very picky eater, and Chris and the Le Brunch crew absolutely knocked it out of the park. The vegetarian benny was exceptional, with perfect Hollandaise, delightful home made English Muffin, and a veggie base that wasnt a last minute menu addition. Plus Chris is a charming and great host. The food and staff were amazing I would have given 5 stars for just that. Then I saw the Nanaimo bars and they blew all my expectations of Nanaimo bars out of the water. I dont think I can eat another Nanaimo bar again if its not from Le Brunch Cafe! Food

I just find it s not often I go out to eat and am blown away any more. Every bite was a treat. All of the ingredients and flavours were fresh and well put together. Go. You won t regret it.

The cafe staff are warm and welcoming. The food is AMAZING! I had the potato crust quiche. It was tasty and did not have the heaviness of a pastry crust. Other people in our group loved their duck confit eggs benny and a special tourtiere benny. They were all very happy. We ll be back to enjoy more items on the menu!

I called 9:30am. to ask about items in the menu for Saturday brunch, and the lady picking up the phone didnt want to be helpful and said its all online and go see it yourself. Because of my food sensitivities, I had a question, but she didnt want to be on the phone and said bye and hung up without giving me a second of opportunity to ask my question. Felt rude. It would have taken a minute to answer my questions about the menu. Customer service matters!

There is no better brunch in Nanaimo. Went with my family of 5, and everyone got something different. We all shared everything ordered. In a word SCRUMPTIOUS!!!! Everything was absolutely divine! The owners Chris and Mark are incredibly charismatic and exceedingly friendly. Absolutely a five star experience, and we will be going back!!

Le Brunch Cafe is an amazing hidden gem in Nanaimo! The atmosphere is so warm and inviting and the staff is so kind! I would recommend having a reservation ahead of time because its pretty popular and for a reason! For drinks we ordered the Turmeric Rooibos latte, and the dirty chai, both so good. They come pipping hot and stay warm throughout your meal, and the taste is just so excellent. For brunch we ordered the Avocado Toast and Veggie Eggs Benedict. Both were very creative and fresh on the taste buds. Definitely coming back again!!

What an amazing spot! Le Brunch Cafe had the best Eggs Benedict me and my husband have ever had! I got the vegetarian one it was out of this world and my husband loved the smoked salmon. I have a perfect adjective for this restaurant and it s whimsical . I never believed that any restaurant could achieve 5 stars, and for the most part I thought it s a bluff underneath it s glamorous flash. But of all the brunch restaurants I ve discovered in any major city here in Canada, I ve never seen any restaurants that turn ingredients into a work of art. Not merely its the presentation, but more so is its whimsical choice of matching the flavors. Order what I had Quebecois Board and you ll see for yourself. Chris is so much more than a fine cook, it takes an artist, a visionary and an insightful businessman to put all these into a plate. And that s the kind of person anyone can tell about Chris with one dish and a 10 minute chat with him.

Nanaimo brunch! Without a doubt the experience at Le brunch was the best thing on our weekend trip to Nanaimo! Absolutely 10 out 10! Amazing food, fantastic atmosphere, i ordered duck confit egg benny, my daughter had French toast and her friend had Quebec board everything comes with beautiful artistic plate presentation, I can tell everything made with passion and love, the benny was the best benny I ever had! Our great host Chris has a great personality and he pays attention on every details, will definitely come to this cozy place again when we visit Nanaimo next time!

I would recommend this place 100 times over. Whilst the food was excellent, better than most we had whilst in Canada. It was Chris (owner) that made our time here. He was so inviting and friendly. He saw me sat outside terrified of the wasps (it was that season) he kept inviting us inside but the sun was too lovely to waste. He asked us about our travels around Canada and told us about how the cafe had only been open 6 months, we couldn t believe it. It is exactly what Nanaimo needs. We would also like to pass on a message to the kind gentleman who anonymously paid for our lunch this day, thank you ever so much. Hopefully you remember us. You reminded two girls how much kindness there is in the world and please know when the time is right we too will pass on this kind gesture.

We also had the pie special and it was the best brunch pie I ve ever had. The ketchup tomato butter was incredible and made the meal. Nanaimo restaurants don t have many vegan options so it s nice to finally have a unique and pretty brunch spot to enjoy a vegan eggs benny. There are some other vegan options on the menu but the benny is the main brunch dish. Very tasty and fresh, and the server was attentive in checking with the kitchen to ensure all aspects of the dish were vegan. We also had the vegan soup of the day (squash, garlic and coconut) which was excellent. The restaurant has a beautiful aesthetic and friendly vibe.

I don t usually leave this type of review but I was propelled to do so after the experience I just had today at this café. I was looking forward to try this spot as I heard great things about it from people I know, and the food was in fact really good! The service is a different story unfortunately. I walked in to place an order to go, and after ordering two breakfasts the gentleman walked away from me - communicating what I wanted to the kitchen which is fine, but took a while for him to come back, then when he did I asked for 2 lattes as well and he walked away again, I was trying to get his attention to give the details of my coffee order (what kind of milks I would like, flavours etc) , it took a bit and was a confusing process to place the order, then while starting to make the coffees he was stopping in the middle and going to connect with other tables, just felt a bit hectic, meanwhile the café wasn t busy. I was waiting to pay and was looking at the desserts in the pastry case in the meantime, so while the gentleman was near the till area (beside the case) I asked enthusiastically what the cake flavour was, he responded he didn t have time for this right now, which left me feeling like an inconvenience for potentially ordering something else. Though a minute later 2 girls arrived in the line behind me and the same guy walked right to them to let them know about all the different pastries they offered, the cake flavours, the nanaimo bars etc. I wondered why I wasn t getting this kind of service ? I felt very weird about it and stepped outside to wait for my order, felt like a bother and the energy was strange. I came back to pay when it was ready and brought it home. I then realized I didn t get the soup I ordered so walked back to the restaurant, I totally get it happens sometimes it s all good. When I walked in I waited to be approached by the gentleman as he was busy with a table, he went to the till and without looking at me or saying Hi said I don t really have time for this or for you . What kind od approach is this, Why ? I m not quite sure, I felt awful in that moment not understanding where that was coming from, why I was being addressed like this as a customer coming in respectfully to enjoy a great breakfast (again, there were only few people in the café). I was honestly baffled , and just responded I m here to get the soup that I ordered but didn t get, I got the soup and left, feeling embarrassed. I felt very unwelcomed in a way I ve never felt in any other businesses before, and truly didn t understand why I was receiving such a bad service. The only thing I could think of afterwards is that maybe the annoyance came from ordering take out instead of dinning in? I m not sure but if that s the case I would rather have been told no take outs today instead of the experience I got. The Spanish Frittata was delicious with the buttery focaccia bread, and so were the veggy bennies, so it s disappointing as the food was excellent but because of the service provided it has deterred me of wanting to ever go back again unfortunately.

I don t understand why a easy meal takes more than 40 mins. And there is no one came to ask how our food was. I m sorry you have good food but poor service.

I don t know why this place has high ratings. When I walked in, there were some empty tables but the guy was bluntly saying there s no seat because a big group is coming in 30 mins. So I had to sit outside in the cold morning. My coffee got cold quick, asked for warming up but it took forever. And I didn t see any big group came 30 mins later. I ordered an avocado toast and coffee. The food was fine but not as good as their unfriendly service can be covered. I never wanna visit here again. *Add I was not angry but disappointed by your blunt greeting and the quality of service provided. My friend and I were in good mood while we were having brunch, regardless how you treated us because it was our first trip. We laughed and enjoyed the time. A glance at our table would have shown our enjoyment. And I did not asked you to control the weather but couldn t you warm up the coffee a bit quicker for the customer who was sitting cold outside? Yes, it was not forever but it took over 10 minutes which seemed excessive. When I visit a restaurant, I value polite and attentive service because anyone can provide delicious food but exceptional service is what sets some places apart. Clearly your restaurant is not providing both of them. And I am sorry for negative feedbacks are not considered for future improvements and going nowhere.

Just simply the biggest highlight of Nanaimo. Food is always impeccable, the service is friendly, quick and thoughtful. However good you think it is, I can assure you it is better than that. The owner Chris is an absolute gem of a human and the cafe is decorated with his gorgeous art. I can confidently call this place my favourite restaurant on the island. If you are in Nanaimo and you didnt stop by, you didnt really come to Nanaimo .

We had a friend from out of town join us for a Ladies day out. High Tea. The owner made our day, and the food was amazing, ALL homemade, from the bread to the mustard! Locally owned, and truly exceptional service. The passion is in the entire atmosphere, food made with love!

The flavours of our meal were delicious, and Chris is a charismatic character! And can t forget Chris s partner Mark with a K! What a pair! Highly recommend! A tiny treasure of a boho brunch restaurant. Sat outside at one of 2 patio tables on a super warm sunny Dec. Saturday. Friendly greeting by staff, prompt cheerful service- (Thanks, Meagan. Meghan?) and excellent skillet special - perfectly poached eggs over potato, onion and sausage base- served with a side of apple coleslaw and little dish of perfect tomato jam. Good brewed coffee. A real weekend treat. The restaurant interior is cozy but not super crowded. Great atmosphere- you feel very welcome. Good to make a reservation on weekends.

I have been luxuriating in the beauty of this Brunch Café for weeks now. I have been coming back to try new menu items, because I simply cannot help myself. The Eggs Benny, english muffin is toasted- not too crunchy, warm, with the hollandaise, creamy with good flavor. The eggs cooked well and tasting fresh. 10/10 recommend the smoked salmon option if you enjoy fresh smoked salmon. I have tried the Vegetarian Benny - also 10/10. All the ingredients are SOO fresh, each meal is paired to have great flavour and compliment itself. I take a bite of everything on each plate and Im in awe of the menu Chris has created. I tried several other menu items so far, Duck confit was exquisite also. Anything you try, Will have fresh flavour and taste like it is a labour of love. The coffee is perfectly strong, and the friendly servers are always filling my cup. The atmosphere of this space is magical. The ambiance is relaxing, warm, and inviting. The people are absolutely wonderful. Highly recommend for a brunch experience, and to enjoy an adventurous brunch of trying new things or delicious and classic eggs benny.
