120 Commercial St, Nanaimo, BC V9R 5G6, Canada
Breakfast & lunch spot offering organic cafe fare along with a bakery making breads & pastries.
Really love this place. They have great coffee, & a really lovely menu. Their Bennie are the best, made with crispy croissants, perfect poached eggs, & decadent hollandaise sauce. They also have a large & different variety of them. I can't wait to try the lunch menu.
Fantastic! Great ambience, service, and menu selections. I had the best ham and cheese croissant, plus a pristine nanaimo bar that was unlike any other ones that I've had. I must come back here!
We went in to get some sandwiches for lunch. The amount of noise inside the restaurant was too much for my daughter, who suffers from noise sensory. She was overwhelmed and had to wait outside. I asked if we could order some sandwiches and was asked by the associate working the till 'for here or to go?' When I said to go they said no we can't do that. Then I said what if we sit in? They said yes if you sit in we can do that for you. I tried explain that my daughter can't sit in because the noise level was too high, because she has sensory issues. They said that's too bad, we can't make an exception. We walked up to Cold Front and back, and watched someone walk out with two to-go sandwiches. Poor form. My daughter can't understand why you won't serve her unless she sits inside and is miserable. Worst service/experience. I always tip at the till, and spend over $100. We will not return. Why can't a sandwich be wrapped?!?
This little French restaurant / cafe literally means “my little cabbage” serves French pastry and brunch. I ordered the fried egg & ham with tomato croissant with a mocha and while you need to expect service to be slow, the food is delish. My friend ordered croque madam 2 sunny side eggs Gruyère cheese & brioche.
This place is perfectly adorable. Nice crew working in the kitchen at the counter. Coffee was really good. Got french toast. That was very generous and tasty with a side of mixed fresh fruits. My bride had muesli, yogurt and granola with lots of fresh fruit and a fancy latte. Prices seemed really good, really enjoyed the service and the people there.
I choose the strata plate for brunch, tasty. The coffee was cold. It's the kind of restaurant with no services. Pick your menu and take a seat. Get up to pay. It seems they run out of employees. It's sad because the restaurant is pretty and well located.
The sandwiches were so good! The portabello mushroom, red pepper sandwich was incredible, and the breakfast croissant. Really tasty Nanaimo bars as well. Highly recommend!
Located in the heart of downtown Nanaimo, Mon Petit Chou is an absolute gem for food lovers seeking a unique and memorable culinary experience. This charming café offers a delectable array of dishes and treats, with a delightful twist on traditional favorites. One of the highlights of Mon Petit Chou is their Vegetarian Benny. This twist on the classic eggs Benedict is a vegetarian's dream come true. The perfectly poached eggs effortlessly blend with the rich, creamy Hollandaise sauce, atop a bed of spinach and toasted English muffin. The addition of mushrooms brings a burst of earthiness to the dish, making it truly irresistible. For those with a sweet tooth, Mon Petit Chou is a haven of delightful treats. The chocolatine, a flaky pastry filled with rich dark chocolate, is an absolute delight. The exquisite buttery layers of the pastry give way to the luscious chocolate center, creating a heavenly combination that will have you savoring each bite. No visit to Nanaimo would be complete without indulging in the iconic Nanaimo bar. Mon Petit Chou provides their unique take on this famous dessert. While it may be less sweet than traditional versions, its richness is truly remarkable. The layers of crumbly chocolate, creamy custard, and coconut add a delightful texture and depth of flavor that leaves a lasting impression. I would say it was too rich for my own palette. The staff at Mon Petit Chou are warm, friendly, and knowledgeable, creating an inviting and relaxed atmosphere. It was a self-seated restaurant, but I found getting service and a clean table to be a challenge.
It s such a great location and awesome offers
The quality of this place has gone down a lot in the past few years.
Our daughter has a noise sensitivity, so it is not common for us to sit in, the last two visits we were turned away both times from ordering takeout even after asked if we wanted take out the 2nd time and explaining we had to have our daughter wait outside while we ordered because it was too loud, not the Mon Petit Choux I used to frequent 10-13 years ago.
The savory brioche french toast is amazing and you can not go wrong with a baguette and preserves!
Filthy environment! Chef bullying staff. They keep arguing in front of customer. $10.00 for a tiny croissant with ham.
When i asked if they had any ice tea the server looked confused. Saying thats not offered, yet ive been coming here for years and been getting ice tea. Then she rudely told me not anymore we cant do that. Is it really that hard to make ice tea?? Food
Great croissants, good espresso, lovely people
Amazing food, super friendly and knowledgeable staff and fresh local organic products! Even home made chocolate for hot chocolate! What more could u want
Nothing crazy but still good
The food at this quaint little cafe was outstanding - the potatoes were exceptional -not deep fried as so many places do. That being said, the service was lacking and appeared to be untrained and non-responsive - a total contrast to the quality in the kitchen. Long waits before someone comes to see if you want coffee etc. I suggest you be assertive and go to the counter if it gets too long. Still was worth the wait... Food and location are outstanding.
Best coffee in town! I love going for breakfast/lunch or just to grab some AMAZING baked goods. Honestly go treat yourself! My absolute favourite Cafe in Nanaimo
My wife said these was the best Eggs Benny shed ever had. I had the Smoked Salmon Benny and it was great. The smoked salmon had a very mild flavour so I could still taste the eggs and hollandaise. Would come here all the time if I lived in Nanaimo.
Very poor, unfriendly service
First of all the food was delicious I just had to start it out like that service was quick and the interior was kinda good but not great
Very good NanaimoBar one of the specialties of the city. For more tips & tricks join our adventure on YouTube & Instagram @Lebruitdugravier Food : 5/5
A charming cafe with a relaxed atmosphere. Lots of food options and reasonably priced. The service was excellent.
Excellent food! Lots of great flavours. Fast and thoughtful service and excellent espresso coffees.
We wanted to grab a Nanaimo bar and this place was recommended. Service and staff were great. Iced late was perfect! and the Nanaimo bars were the best we have ever had.
Delicious veggie Benny served on a croissant. Food was thoughtful and well-seasoned. Baked goods are also excellent - try the pain au chocolate. Some reviewers say the service is poor but everyone was friendly and attentive while we were there. Id say they should have better street signage, except that they were the only brunch place without a long wait on a Saturday, so Im selfishly glad they are bit harder to spot!
Really nice place ! My dish was really huge and everything was great so I hardly recommended it :)
I kid you not- the nicoise tuna sandwich is the BEST tuna sandwich ever. Wow. A must pickup every time Im in town. My favourite!! Not massive but extremely tasty. Thank you! Croissants are also
Apparently most popular breakfast place
DISAPPOINTED!! Big time! Spoons stink, food was kept on the counter 15 minute- no waitress to serve it until it was cold. The bread they served is hard and not chewable. Ambience is below average. Do not recommend
Ive only had coffee and Nanaimo bars here to date but like it very much. Some might question the ratio of top to middle layer in the bars, weighted heavily to middle, or the middle leaning more towards fluffiness than custardiness, but Im good on those counts and the fact that the lower layer features puffed rice (I think) in place of the more traditional dessicated coconut is a win for me. Nice sort of Victorian-ish interior, too, and prime central location with lots of natural light.
Service was atrocious. Waited 25 minutes for 2 cappuccinos to go! Only 3 tables in the place so they obviously forgot about us. Not much selection and unlabeled. Scattered layout, messy appearance. Bummer..was stoked to have found a French bakery.
Simply the best Eggs Benny Ive ever had. I consider myself an Eggs Benny aficionado. Putting the eggs on a butter fried croissant is inspired! No more english muffins for this guy. The service, however, is very slow.
My favourite cafe for brunch! Food is delicious! Had the Strata this time and will probably get it again on my next visit!
The food was absolutely delicious! The staff was very friendly. Would definitely recommend!!!
The crepe and the salad that came with it was excellent ! Highly recommend
Excellent good great atmosphere. Our new brunch spot for sure
Mediocre service with low standards. Lack of flavor overall, bennies are a NO
2/10 bennies. Undercooked egg, over-fried hair thin bacon. The worst latte I ve ever tried in my life - black coffee with foam on top. Mid service. Blacklisted forever
The best Nanaimo bar!
Cant make a latte.
Best eggs benny!
I ordered scrambled eggs and bacon breakfast. Almost an hour later, I got undercooked, rather slimy scrambled eggs, nice crispy bacon, nice little bit of pan fried potatoes, a little, rather chewy baguette and a nice piece of fruit. The jam was tasty, but the homemade ketchup was pretty much tasteless. The kitchen was not busy when we ordered, only a few other tables of people...the bathroom was filthy, not what I was expecting for sure. The plant on the counter by the cash register and next to the uncovered coffee grinder was literally thick with what looked like many months of dust. The kitchen floor looked pretty dirty. I was really nauseous a few hours later but not sure if it was from eating the under cooked eggs or not...this was my second time eating at this restaurant in the last five or six years and my second time being disappointed. Just a note, no one asked how our food tasted.
Really enjoyed my lunch and baked goods! Crepe, Benny, soup, croissants! Staff are great
Lovely place and friendly staff Every meals were hearty and delicious! Bakery as well! Highly recommend! Recommended dishes
Best Nanaimo bar i have ever tasted!!!
Our server was very attentive and polite. We had fun and the blt on baguette and savory crepe with ham and gruyere and mushrooms was all yummy!
Great food. However, One of the staff members was very rude to us. We originally got our food to go and had to change our plans at the last minute so we just sat in a corner and ate. After we finished, a server (woman with black hair) came up and said accusingly I thought you were getting your food to go? . I told her we had to change plans and she scolded us by saying you should have told us to save on the plastic cutlery then turned and walked away with a scowl. From the moment we walked in, it was like she resented being there. However, to speak to a customer like that is rude and very bad business.
Great breakfasts and atmosphere!
Lovely lunch. Prices very reasonable. Nice atmosphere.
Had the roast beef and brie sandwich, and it was fantastic! Service was quick. However, our server seemed upset and a little angry or annoyed. I hope she was ok. Overall I would go back.
Nice little cafe smack in the middle of town. Decent menu, great pricing. Plenty of seating. Fast service. Food
Great breakfast, great coffee and wonderful customer service. I just wish they had more vegetarian options
Ive been a few times, Ive always liked the food. Their Nanaimo bar is weird as hell tho. I was not a fan.
Charming old world cafe. There is quite a bit of space to sit without being cramped.
Coffee was a bit bitter and too hot for a latte. Nainamo bar was quite good, quick service and friendly staff.
Purchased a regular croissant, chocolate croissant, nanaimo bar, and coconut cookies! Wow. All of it was so good. My favorite is the chocolate croissant!! I will keep coming back here whenever I am in town.
We only ordered a Nanaimo bar originally, but their house-made baguette smells so so tempting and we ended up having a roast beef baguette sandwich to go with. The warm sandwich was handed to us after 5 minutes. Its a simply perfect baguette sandwich with a crunchy crust outside and a soft heart inside - tender roast beef paired with garlic aioli, caramelized onion, melted brie YUM... and yes, you dont want to miss out on their Nanaimo bar. It comes with a slightly fluffy custard layer and a chewy base. I would say its the best Nanaimo bar in BC (lack of experience, but I would still say its the best :p
The eggs Benny and all their baked goods are put of this world!
I only go for their Eggs Benedict. Its my Go to for Bennys in town atm and Ive been everywhere. The food is beautiful and delicious! Perfect eggs served on a fresh baked croissant with real ham And a couple other specialty Bennys that are jaw dropping. The price was the best in town until recently. Now they are the same price as everywhere else. The service is weak, however they have recently hired more staff and it is improving. Great place for breakfast! Highly recommend
Chaotic service
There was no quality check. Slow service, but she was pleasant. I always have the Croque Madame when I am in town. It is usually smothered in sauce, but this time around, it was barely on the plate under the sandwich. I had to ask for more, which they charged me for. Unfortunately, with new places opening in Nanaimo means I probably wont be back there or if I am, I will never order the Croque Madame again.
Vegetarian options: Vegetarian lentil soup was delicious but the baguette was disappointing dense and chewy. I was expecting the excellent crispy crust and light interior I ve had before here. Definitely not a good baguette. Food
This cafe has really good food. The are either very understaffed or very disorganized. They unfortunately got one vegan order wrong, it had cheese on it and it could not be eaten. However because of a 30 minute wait for food we could not get another meal for that person. The server did her best to rectify the situation and she was lovely about it and we were not charged for the food. They have a poor payment system- you have to pay at the till even for table service. It would seem to me that having a hand held payment terminal for the table service side would help to lessen the wait times all around. We waited a very long time just to pay. People came and went from the line to buy bakery items and ended up leaving because the wait. I would go back here because the food was good, but it wont be a go to place. I also wish they had more vegan options.
Excellent coffee and sandwiches
I had the smoked salmon with scrambled eggs and it was amazing! Just the perfect amount of salty. And the Nanaimo bar was delicious.
cosy place. had an excellent breakfast here.
The food was really great! Staff was nice, and the vibe is amazing. Lovely decorations. Definitely recommend! Vegetarian options: Multiple vegetarian choices
Great venue, delicious food and good service. We enjoyed our breakfast in a relaxed atmosphere.
Five of us were there bright and early for Saturday breakfast. Wonderful atmosphere and the wide variety of dishes was such a joy to eat. Wish we were there longer to try more meals. Definitely a place to go to. Excellent coffee. Friendly helpful service.
The prosciutto sandwich was very good
The coffee here isnt bad, but their croissant dough cinnamon rolls are to die for. I came back fro that. Very memorable - just the right balance of fluff and crunch.
Incredible customer service! I felt welcome, relax environment and the food, extremely delicious. Coming from Alberta, and how pricey food can be, eventhough the quality nor the service is there, it felt like heaven on earth having the blackforrest croissant. What an incredible and beautiful community. Thank you for serving with and making my vacation expirience special Mia!
Great food and even better sweets
Great for breakfast!
Very tasty baguettes and nanaimo bars.
This is such a nice spot in downtown Nanaimo. Get a taste of La Vie Francais without leaving the island. The menu is reasonably priced - most items are under 20$, and everyone is super friendly. A nice place to gather for Sunday brunch or really any time of day. Tres Biens.
We took a seat and were not approached to have our orders taken in 20 mins, but two servers acknowledged that we were waiting and said that they would be with us shortly. They went to other tables with previously seated customers, and seated and took orders from two parties that arrived AFTER we did. I was starved and was not willing to wait for two other tables to receive their food ahead of us when we arrived first, so we left. Cant comment on the food, but very bad service.
Best sandwich Ive had in my life. Ill come back here every time Im in town!
Enjoyed the breakfast here, small bistro atmosphere with bakery included in business..good value and good food.
Went to Mon Petit Choux for breakfast recently. The service we got was very concerning. As Asian minority coming to visit Nanaimo I do not recommend this place. There was discrimination toward non whites first thing when you walk in. There was no greeting. We sat down at a table and nobody came to take our order. The server was serving the white people first, even tho they came in after us. No good.
Very cute. Quiet. Smells delicious! The coffee was outstanding! The service was a bit strange because we just stood around for 15 mins, without anyone else there, waiting for our order to be taken, but other than that it was great!
Great breakfast!
Tasty treats with a Parisian vibe in the centre of town.
Blackstone Benny was delicious (croissant was a nice change from the English muffin). Only criticism would be to have a wee bit more of the Hollandaise sauce but otherwise very tasty. MPC also offers very nice coffee options. Both the latte and the mocha were awesome. Very nice coffee! Nice atmosphere to just hang out.
Great almond croissants! Staff was very lack luster..
Nice little coffee shop, great for taking a quick coffee or a comfy breakfast. A must visit coffee shop every time we pass through Nanaimo
We had excellent lunch and coffee the only complain is when we were having our food the young lady was cleaning the floor sweeping and washing when we were eating, our lunch. It is not pleasant going out paying for lunch and the dust comes in my plate and face . Also I had to remind the lady for cutlery . Hope they will pay attention for the service .
Food was good, and the service was a bit of as it a busy.
Nanaimo bar is a must-try dessert. We went to two nearby restaurants and compared them. They are all quite sweet, but red bakery is more delicious!
Delicious
Very nice local place with a bunch of fresh products made in the restaurant. I gave it a 4/5 because the service could of been a bit better.
Great place for breakfast and lunch - bread and pastries baked in house and very high quality. Friendly service and reasonable prices.
Had an amazing experience at that restaurant! It was really hard to decide what to get so we took a little bit of everything and didnt regret: everything was delicious! I recommend this place to anyone that love good pastry and excellent coffee!
Loved the food and the service, the whole atmosphere, actually. The latté was as good as it gets. Visiting from Vancouver and partly choosing this place because of the rumoured Nanaimo bars, we know with absolute certainty that for our next visit to Nanaimo, we will be back at Mon Petite Choux.
The eggs Benedict was to die for! And the service was quick and friendly
Always great fresh meals and quality baked goods made from scratch. Good coffee as well. Eggs Benedict with croissant on the side, substituted salad for hash browns. Been coming here for years and its very consistent.
Croissant bennies were amazing!
Cute bakery and breakfast spot. Great cinnamon buns!
must have! visit nanaimo and tried it. I love this bakery
Been here many times before and visited after a long time. Staff friendly, nanaimo bar good. Sad to see only two flavours of macarons that day
We came here for breakfast. How do you run out of hash browns at 10 am? Otherwise the food was alright
Stopped in as a curiousity, and was very pleased to find another gem. Delicious breakfast, featuring some of the best over-easy eggs Ive found in town. To say nothing of the bread, which was so good I had to bring some home. Will be coming back.
Small Cafe in Nanaimo that serves authentic French pastries and bread and breakfast and lunch. I sat down and had a nice coffee and bread with jam and butter.
If youre in downtown Nanaimo you must come for at least a pastry
Poor service
Great place to go for lunch, fast and friendly service with delicious food.
Average French bistro fare.service a bit slow. Clean cafe vibe surrounding friendly staff
Fantastic breakfast, very fresh, great service!
Delicious food.
Over priced for what you get.
I LOVE THIS PLACE...always a treat to have breakfast here...breakfast sandwich on an amazing croissant with a tea...8 bux ****EDIT***** UNFORTUNATELY this place was sold and the new owners are not doing it justice. I will not return. My eggs Benny was on a rock hard burnt croissant...tiniest piece of scrap ham...by that I mean like a piece that was smaller than a bite!!! Such a shame!!!
The best French toast and crepe I have for a very long time. Space is qaint and welcoming. Highly recommend.
Excellent Nanaimo Bars (they happen to be gluten free). Good, fresh coffee.
Most excellent pastries. Went back for seconds. Favourites: Nanaimo bar, pecan tart, and passion fruit mousse ball. Average dessert was $5. Pricy but really delicious!
This cafe is not what it used to be. Over priced for what you get. Pay $0.50 for ice in your glass of water. Maybe a good idea to tell your clients first before adding that onto the bill. I will not visit this establishment again.
the food is gourmet and the pastries are too. table service or to go, they offer 90% of well known espresso concoctions. theres a really good soup de jeur menu thats always changing. all of the baked good including the bread used for sandwiches and french toast is made in house and every morning. go here !
Great Nanaimo Bar - made on site !
Absolutely amazing, surprisingly-affordable breakfast and baked goods! The Benny was delicious and the lox and eggs was incredible. And the Nanaimo bars were the best Ive ever had in Nanaimo. Definitely recommend!
Ok not gonna lie parking in the centre of naniomo bit of a nightmare, especailly when your rushing to try to get to this place before the next ferry But once you get past that and start roaming to this place a lovely buttery scent fills the air . My partner said lets to the place that the that awesome smell is coming from instead. It happened to be the place i wanted to go to. Which was here When we there and it was 1:30-2 kitchen was closed But the croissants and chocolatines were awesome!! Very even browning extremely buttery, the honey comb cross section was pretty perfect The one suggestion I would have is try not to seal the beautiful layers shut with your egg yolk wash And the coffee was alright too service was good very friendly staff! Hope my partner and I come here again someday as were from quebec and it was a long road trip it probably wont be for a while But if we do.. Definitely coming in the morning to try some real food it smelled amazing!
Amazing croissants!
Just a wonderful, friendly place for delicious food. Great coffee. A very comfortable atmosphere. (Appreciate the AC). We will definitely return here on our next trip to Nanaimo.
Food is good eggs are farm fresh service is unbelievably slow and they get upset I know they are short staffed but when all the tables around you are all complaining such a shame takes away from the food
Won t return. I ve always visited here when I m in Nanaimo as we enjoy the food. The lackadaisical attitude and inefficiency is disappointing. The wait for our coffees alone was ridiculous. The food was decent - but not worth waiting for 40 minutes to receive. Blaming staff shortage for the situation was a cop out. I work in the serving industry and simply saw inefficient process for everything. The fact that you have to then wait in line to pay for your very very delayed meal was too much. We won t be back.
Came here for the good reviews but was very disappointed. Took 40 min to get a drip coffee and was cold. Service is just not there at all, weird experience. Won t recommend.
Most amazing bread Ive ever had. Beautiful spot and friendly staff. Would 100% recommend checking this spot out!
Just delicious. Cant wait to go back!
Food was good and that s the reason for the 2 stars. Bad attitude from barista with slow coffee/drinks. What other reviewers mention about slow drink service is true. We got our breakfast and finished it without even a glass of water or my coffee being served. Lined up 20 mins to pay, was offered to make the coffee to go, but since we had already finished our meal, we decided to deny that offer. This was met with the barista responding your loss , which ironically is her loss, as that comment cost her the tip on my bill. Table beside us also had to chase for their coffees with one of them eventually going up to the counter to check, after getting no response from their server. This place needs a lesson on how to run a restaurant. I agree with other reviewers about the inefficient processing. No one had set duties. I saw the server become hostess/busser/barista/cashier. The staff who eventually rung my bill at the till went from prepping food, to taking a take-out order, to putting dirty dishes away, to letting me know that she ll be right with me at the till, to aimlessly staring at the wall wondering what to do, to sliding/pushing a dirty tub of plates on the floor under a counter to finally ringing my bill up on the till. Just no direction or clear sense of duties at all, with a very slow-pace lackadaisical attitude as noted by another recent reviewer. Won t be returning.
Service was atrocious. Started out well enough, we ordered 4 items. Lemonade, got iced tea. Blueberry pastry, got a strawberry completely different pastry. A coffee that they forgot to make, when we went back they made it and brought it and set it at the only empty spot at our table. A nanimo bar that was the worst nanimo bar I have ever trued. Threw it out, after trying to dissect why it was so bad. Literally every layer was wrong. Would not recommend. Oh and they loved an hour earlier then posted so we had to get ours to go. And the seats we sat on to wait were so filthy.
Arrived at 8:05 am, and the door was still locked. The lady inside walked over, and changed the sign on the door to suggest that they open at 9am. She didnt even give me eye contact.
Wonderful server. Fresh baked goods.
Parking: It really sucks have pay parking to visit my favorite cafe!
Took forever to get our food, and the service seemed to be very confused. We asked for water that never came, got tea with cream and sugar but no spoon, and had to remind them repeatedly of the order we had already paid for. Food itself was tasty, but I would not go back.
Holy cow that coffee. That was amazing coffee. Stopped in for breakfast and loved it.. Nice homemade French food. And the bakery they have looked amazing! To edit - I have been back 3 times since my first visit and will continue to return. They are the best reason to go to Nanaimo.
Good and healthy food. Not so expensive. Nice location
Was sat at a table around 10. Ordered coffees and breakfast promptly. Coffees came out separately for my wife and I. Waited an hour without the staff checking in on us for extra coffee. I had to ask someone about our food. The staff member didnt get back to me so I had to check-in again and our food had been forgotten about. Not a very nice experience on a Sunday morning.
45 min wait for food order to have not been placed, no refill on coffee.
Service seemed a little confused, but the food and coffee that everyone had was very delicious
Good is normal good but I wait almost 40 min for a black coffe maybe better organization would be great for the bussines
Sometimes I get a craving for Eggs Benedict l happen to be passing by MPC last week l notice their EB Special which looked very interesting . l have been to this place before it can be a hit or a miss , l just couldn t go by without doing that Benny and yes it was delicious creativity at its best . Not sure what s up with the waitresses the table service is terrible , I wasn t sure if I was supposed to get my own coffee and bus the table when I was done . If you re lucky the waitresses won t ignore you
Hands down the best eggs Benedict I ve ever tasted! Usually not a big fan of hollandaise sauce but this tasted great. The addition of the croissant really elevates the dish.
Just tried the Nanaimo bar and it was delicious!
Parking: Paid parking outside
Lovely place, good food (we are from Italy), friendly and kind staff!
Unfortunately, I was not impressed by this café for breakfast. Service was so long that I saw at least 3 families leaving. They waited 15 minutes and the server didnt go to see them, so they just left. Prices are ok/good. Flavour was ok/good too. I felt like the portion should have been bigger. Juice is server in a plastic glass... Same thing for water, but no ice... Anyway, Ill probably continue to look around for my next breakfast. In my picture, this was the Canadian Bacon plate.
Horrible service unfortunately. Orders were wrong. We asked for oat milk substitution and didnt get them. Asked for an espresso macchiato, got an espresso. Waitress didnt even write the order down properly. Asked for water, watched our waitress refill waters for other tables 2-3 times before having to remind her. People who came in after us were served water, coffees and food before we so much had water on our table.
Not what it used to be unfortunately. The baguette was stale, we were not given proper place settings and our tea was spilt on our table. I had the eggs benny and it was quite nice.
The beef dip, London fog, and some pastries are good here. The kitchen is often closed when i pop by though and Im not a fan of the coffee/espresso or nanaimo bars. The dinning area is beautiful, marble tables, lots of plants, and service is usually good.
What a great little spot for amazing coffee and breakfast. Excellent service. French toast was sublime. Merci
The service was friendly, but the bread was so cold that it tasted okay.
Two of us ate here and one of the meals (eggs Benny) was somehow overcooked and cold. They did give us complementary pastries. I would try this restaurant again.
The menu food is not very good, nor is the service. Staff are very inefficient and never know what s going on with orders.
As someone with a sweet tooth, this is my new favourite spot! I religiously order their French toast as the bread is so different. Between that, some iced tea, their croissants with preserves and a delicious passion fruit mousse, I always leave satisfied. For those that prefer a savoury meal, they still have amazing options, it s just not the first thing I go for. The staff are so friendly and accommodating! I love the atmosphere here and I ll be returning many times to come.
The coffee and pastries here are really good. The croissants and nainamo bar are excellent. Lots of seating and good service.
I arrived on a Saturday about 15-30min before closing but that didnt seem to stop the employees to treating me so well. I was greeted right away by a woman and asked if I wanted to sit or order out. She informed me right away that the kitchen was closed but they have coffee/tea and pastries still. I asked if I could use the washroom first and she said absolutely and showed me where it was. Once I finished in there I went up to order a coffee and pick up a sweet treat. The tall man behind the counter greeted me warmly and let me know that he didnt have any coffee atm but if I wanted he could put on a fresh pot of drip coffee but because they were so close to closing I didnt want him to do that so I ordered a small hot chocolate, it was delicious. I also got a small party to go and went on way, the hospitality at Mon Petit Choux is amazing. Thank you and merry Christmas.
Long time fans. Food and service good today but cleanliness not. Dust, dead flies and plants werent an appetizing view.
Didnt try the breakfast. Im sure they are great, but the bakeries were sub par. The chocolate croissants and the baguette were kind of stale and cold.
A great breakfast on the sidewalk patio. Eggs and salmon! Yummy!!
Delicious food and great service!
Tiny, run down diner in Nanaimo. Have the crepes, they are delish.
Tried Nanaimo Bar here. It s good but a bit too sweet for me. Very popular local cafe. I d love to come back for breakfast or lunch. I tried the Nanaimo bar. It was delicious but too sweet for me... Its a popular local cafe latte, so I definitely want to come for breakfast or lunch.
Great Food. Had eggs Benny and the breakfast sandwich. Both had croissants that were amazing. Staff was great too. All and all great experience.
In town for a week and had to stop in for breakfast a second time. Their breakfasts are decadent and their pastries are to drool over. We had Nanaimo bars every day for a week at a different places and nothing beat the Nanaimo bars from this bakery!
Excellent food but super disorganized and very slow service.
Most disorganized restaurant. We were the very first customers in and for some reason they ran out of home fries, so we got half our order and the waiter didnt even bother to tell us. He just brought our plates out. We ate our food because he was no where to be seen. When he finally came around I asked for some more coffee, he said, itll probably be a while... and of course he never came around. We asked for a chocolate milk and he never brought it. Then we had to wait at the counter for half an hour just to pay. The guy workers were super unprofessional and emotional. The one was slamming doors because our waiter (the bearded tall guy) stole the Nanaimo bar that he already plated. This place was horrible! P.S we were excited to try the desserts and, of course, those were a huge disappointment as well. Dont waste your time going here.
Great breakfast, pleasant staff
Great food and nice price!
Bad service, food was awful I dont understand why the have a patio if they dont know how to keep track of your order
Baked goods were good but service was extremely poor. Waited almost 20 minutes for 2 Americans after they were completely forgotten about. While I waited I saw food sit on the pass for almost 5 minutes before the cooks called for service so I cant imagine the guests receiving that were impressed with the temperature. With the options of cafes on this street I would definitely opt to go elsewhere.
Very poor customer service , store manager was not very accomodating . Overall really poor experience and would not recommend it until staff ammend there mood when engaging with customers. Waitress was really pleasant.
Change in ownership; quality of food, coffee, and service remain good.
Delicious sandwich and bread, friendly service, convenient location, slightly sad patio space but still outdoors.
I wish I read reviews before I went. Waited in a short line for 20 minutes, since there is not one person directly managing the till. Was told I shouldnt have waited in line to be served at a table... Did not see any signage to tell me this. Was treated rudely by the barista/person at till for waiting in line. Had to ask about our Americanos since they forgot about them. No manners from any of the staff, and felt like I was more of a hassle to them.
Like the place, not far from where I live and parking is plenty If you got there earlier in the day.
The name of the place is French but didnt really have lots of French bakery except for the baguette and croissant. I ordered a mocha... it was sweet at the bottom but no sweetness at the top at all. Also ordered chocolate croissant... I liked it. For a French name I would like to expect more French pastry and bakery.
Love this place
Coffee served on a platter. Americano is the best.
We were passing through Nanaimo and decided to stop here for a coffee and a snack. When we walked up to the counter we were greeted and asked what we would like, and if we would be taking our orders to eat there or to go. We asked some questions about our options and as we were deciding, suddenly the woman behind the counter informed us that, actually, we cant order anything because they would be closing in 12 minutes. The kitchen was already closed. So... Why not tell us that when we entered instead of wasting our time? We werent even able to just order coffees. Needless to say we were not impressed with the service.
This is a lovely place for breakfast or brunch or lunch. Mon Petit Choux has a choice of sandwiches and Eggs Benedict dishes and I appreciated the vegetarian option with a side order of hashbrowns.
Cute place with decent food. A little hipster for my tastes but I liked it for breaky.
Rated one of the number one places to have a Nanaimo bar in Nanaimo so as a tourist we were interested.. We arrived at 3:30 and they close at 4:00. The display case was empty and the male server was not really accommodating- When we asked if there were any Nanaimo bars available, his response was well I guess I could get you a frozen one. It was very off putting. Try the Red bakery across the street.
Great little spot with excellent food. Made fresh on site. Very tasty. They do seem to be short on staff like just about everyone else in the area.
Little hard to get served but the quality of the Nanaimo bar definitely makes up for it! Even tried a seasonal pumpkin spice one, delicious.
