Arrived at cafe at 1:30, started picking up meal , started eating our meal and all was warm at best. Complained to waiter. And he said we should come at 11:30 when smorgasbord starts!!!! She said food is put out at 11:30 and by 1:30 all is cold!!!! We spent 44.00 for plate of garbage!!!

Two bowls of soup, just under 40 dollars. Took almost 40 mins. My dad and I had ordered for pick up, and we were told 20 mins. I couldnt even finish mine. The wontons tasted...just weird. I had one piece of broccoli in mine and two slices of carrots. Both of us got sick within 3 hours. Absolutely appalling.

Buffet food is hot and restocked often, the foods delicious. Lots of variety. Attentive servers. For dessert at the buffet, dont miss the wonton skins! Tossed in honey and sesame seeds, I believe.

Almost authentically Chinese, service was amazing and every waiter was kinder and more patient than a Shaolin monk, the food was so amazing (especially the cod, its amazing) and dessert gave me well above enough options. Its like Leonardo DaVinci himself designed this place. Above infinity/10. Vegetarian options: The capacity of 3 whole slots dedicated to vegetables says enough. Once you get there, youll know they had them in mind when making this place. Parking: Right infront, at the entrance. Kid-friendliness: They treat children like adults, which is a first Ive seen globally.

Terrible I could have made a better chow mein with processed chicken and Mr. Noodles. Used to be my favorite restaurant absolute garbage now!

Good food but small portions and overpriced. Ordered the fried prawns and scallops. The picture online showed just prawns and scallops. I Received what was essentially chop Suey. A whole bunch of vegetables with very little meat for nearly $30. I also ordered chop Suey and the two dishes were virtually indistinguishable from each other except that one cost $10 more and I m still trying to figure out why. This is my third experience with this restaurant. The food tasted good, but the portions were absolutely not what I expected for the price they charge. Disappointing.

Wow, I have never been so disappointed and over charged. If I could give Hong Kong house a negative 2 stars I would. All the mediocre food was stale and not replenished. We were there for an hour and nothing was replenished. The only edible food was the island farms ice cream which was all basically empty. Booth was covered in old jello, glasses were dirty from old food, plates weren t cleared from the tables overall the worst experience. Not only was the food terrible but they upped the prices again, in felt marker I might add, and a 10year old child was $21.95? $28.95 for an adult??? To choke down stale bland Chinese food. So very disappointing

Food is well prepared, sometimes it is hard to judge how many people are coming and there is a shortage of food. But that only means people love their food.

The food is always good here. I usually go to the smorgasbord. It is also a good place to book a large table . The staff is good. It is an older restaurant so not as shiny, but it is clean. Price is reasonable.

Always a great spot for a buffet lunch or dinner but the lunch is way more affordable and no where near as busy. Service is a bit on the slackish side but the food makes up for it. Parking: Not a ton of parking in the parking lot but also had street parking and if it s dinner time surrounding businesses that have empty parking lots. Kid-friendliness: Fully kidding friendly. Wheelchair accessibility: Fully accessible!

Once upon a time, this was a wonderful place for Chinese food. Today we ordered food for delivery, it was supposed to arrive by 6:27p.m. its now 7:18p.m. and we are still waiting. We are 600 meters away from this restaurant. Yes we did call to check on our order at about 6:40p.m. At that time they said it had left the building (maybe with Elvis). So they are definitely off our list of places to visit or phone for delivery. Now 7:25p.m. and the minutes keep ticking by. If it does arrive....how cold will it be. My favorite little bit unfortunately its paid for.......maybe Elvis is eating it. Sad Sunday dinner.

I have gotten take-out from this place many times over the years and have never been disappointed.

My new favorite Chinese food restaurant

New Years Eve was definitely a disappointment. We phoned our order in at 1:30pm for a 6:00pm pickup. When I got there, I was surprised to learn I was one of eight in a lineup for a 6pm pickup. Finally got our order at 6:45pm, only to get home and find out our home was totally wrong/incomplete. We know where we wont be going in future.

$27.95 for dinner buffet and $20.95 for lunch buffet. $1 discount for seniors and kids are $2.50 per age. Its always a good time at Hong Kong house food and service wise. Its our go to Chinese buffet place in Nanaimo. They have the biggest selection and best quality. My only issue is the prices for kids and seniors are too high as we feel wasteful to bring them as they eat little. Im okay with the adult pricing.

A great lunch smorgasbord with great friendly service as usual for a New Year s Day

Preordered take out for NYE two days (Thursday) ahead for pick up at 6:30 pm (Saturday). We had ordered Beef Chow Fun (alright), almond chicken (very good) vegetarian chop suey (alright), bbq pork, large portion (mediocre). Total with tax came to 68$, 10% tip to a total of 76$. I had preordered several days ahead because I knew they would be busy, and wanted to make life easier for everyone involved. I called Saturday at around 4, to confirm my order and that we would be there to pick up at 6:30 that night. They confirmed and I was there at 6:30. I was told multiple times that my order was just getting packed up, but ended up waiting for 35 minutes, before finally leaving with my food at 7:10 that Saturday. I assume they started making it when I arrived at the restaurant, as it took thirty-five minutes to get my food. Something, I had tried very hard to prevent by both preordering two days ahead, and calling earlier that day to confirm my order. The food was not worth the wait, and quite frankly, had I paid after I gotten the food and waiting the 35 minutes, instead of paying as soon as I got there, being told it was just getting pack up, I would not have tipped.

I ordered lunch for myself from door dash. I usually dont leave bad reviews but the wonton noodle soup and shrimp dumplings I ordered seem to be store bought dumplings :( The noodles in the photo of the soup (on doordash) I thought I was ordering were egg noodles, turned out I was wrong, they are just vermicelli noodles. There was no description on what was in the soup or anything else on the menu just photos. The soup came with 2 slices of carrot and 2 pieces of brocolli and 6 dumplings but waaaaay too many noodles and I only used about a 1/4 of what they sent in my order. Couldve been more soup and less noodle portion. $16 wonton noodle soup was something I though would be homemade for the price, the broth wasnt bad but not great either. The $9 shrimp dumplings seem to just be store bought frozen dumplings. Pretty disappointing for the $30.

We enjoy going to Hong Kong House for its extensive buffet. Food is very good, hot and if a food item is getting low, they refill it immediately. Staff are kept on their toes as this place is often busy, they are very pleasant and very busy. Good Food for a reasonable price and all you can eat! Buffet includes dessert as well. Go early to get a parking spot and a booth! Alcoholic beverages are available but of course, cost extra. Vegetarian options: Moderately Vegetarian if you can eat fish, shrimp and lots of veggies with noodles (chow mein) Kid-friendliness: Lots of families come to HKH, normally they arrive for an early dinner. Wheelchair accessibility: Yes HKH, is wheelchair accessible.

Lots of selection, yet alot of the trays were empty (same as dessert table), food was borderline cold, very small plates so you have to go up constantly. For 28/ plate, it isnt worth it.

Saturday we planned to go to HongKong house Chinese restaurant to celebrate our Chinese New Year with family, I called to make a reservation for Chinese New year Dinner on Saturday, they never put us on the book , and they make us back on the back of the line , never apologize, never tried accommodate us , even tho is their mistake they took my phone number again and We waited and Waited and never phone us back , As myself a Chinese , they totally ruined our Chinese new year,, I am looking forward to have a apology from the restaurant owner

This is the only place Ill go for buffet. They must have a winning formula because its consistently good, please keep it up. Ill definitely be back.

This is their Szechuan Beef and it costs roughly $17. Basically, I got a container full of raw (maybe parboiled at best) veggies with a garnish of meat.

Having lived in Richmond for many years, I went to Nanaimo for the first time. A few days ago, I experienced the Hong Kong House recommended by the locals. I found that as long as I leave the Greater Vancouver area, I will always see a Chinese buffet, whether it is from the mainland or the United States. The reason? Also, this level of Chinese buffet is basically impossible to survive in Greater Vancouver. It s really average. It s about the same level as any Food Court in Richmond, or even worse... We arrived at 630pm, and the row was quite empty. There were basically no choices, and there were no hard dishes. The prices were basically impressive, and the store wasnt very popular. Generally speaking, its passable. Its good to have it. Lets make do with it. 2 stars are still available. 5 stars is a bit too much to hope for. Friends who live on the island still have to cross the sea to Richmond if they want to eat Chinese food.

Best Chinese buffet in town, great variety of food. The waitresses are super nice and helpful. Make sure to check If they have a specific dish on for the day cause mussels are not on everyday and they dont have duck nowadays due to short in supply

Showed up at about 1:15 on Sunday. Most of the food (except breakfast items like pancakes and sausages) was empty. We had one small plate of the bits there was left. Waited 20 minutes to see if food would be replenished, it was not. Asked one of the workers if more food would be coming out and was told they were cooking and that it was very busy earlier... We waited another 15 and only two items came out. Went to pay after being there for 45 minutes and the employee seemed surprised we were leaving. We asked for a discount as there was no food and we barely ate. The employee offered us the senior rate, for two of us it was still over $40!!!!!!!! Do not reccomend, dont waste your time, there are plenty of other buffets in Nanaimo to spend your money at.

Im super disappointed & surprised in how far the bar has dropped on the buffet! Hardly any real variety anymore & at 5:30 half the restaurant had to wait half an hr for anything to be in it. It was completely empty & the restaurant was empty when we got there. I wont be driving across town to go to this one anymore ~ not worth it!

Really small portions on take out/delivery orders for the money spent. The vegetable fried rice was just steamed rice with a handful of frozen peas and carrots mixed in .not impressed Won t order ever again for take out. Quality Foods take out is a way better deal

Not worth your time. Half of the buffet offerings were completely empty and what remained were the typical undesirables like crackers, soup and I believe one vegetable dish. The dining room staff wouldn t do anything about it so one of us in our party of four walked into the kitchen ourselves, and asked them to kindly put some food out at which point they brought some noodles and rice and a chicken dish. Over the years this place has gone downhill and this seems to be indicative of the service lately. We won t be returning again. When we complained upon leaving, they still charged us full price and suggested we come back at dinner time when the service will be better and the food will be stocked better. A very poor response as far as I m concerned. Parking: Plentiful

Excellent buffet, amazing staff, usually but last night was very disappointing the food was cold squid was raw, sweet and sour sauce was very sweet, spring rolls very spicy no warning prawns were cold and rubbery, when asked how it was I told them it was cold I was told that I should have stirred the food before putting it on my plate. $54.50 for 2 A waste of money for a cold tasteless smorgasbord

Dinner for 6 was amazing! Especially the hot and spicy Szechuan chicken !!!! Staff was very friendly. We had a bunch of little ones with us and made quite a mess but they were very understanding

Well....I guess I should have just read the reviews before going. Ive had this Chinese food many times and would have fought with you about it being the best Chinese in town. Not anymore, Im guessing the buffet is the only way to get your moneys worth cause Im unsure how anyone would pay 80 for 3 half full containers of food. The only dish that was enjoyed was the house fried rice, which was the only container that was actually full. Lol. At 20 bucks a dish youd think theyd fill them! Main dishes were sad, the hot and spicy squid that was not only a chewy tire but pretty much had a batter on it and no spice but did come with a healthy portion of veggies to fill the bowl lol. Dry garlic ribs cold and flavour less. And the kicker... the sweet and sour pork couldnt save this meal although was full of lots deep fried batter bites. (Thats sarcasm incase your not getting the picture) the cold and oddly really sweet sauce usually can carry a bad meal. Not tonight sweet and sour pork... not tonight!

My wife and I came here for dinner on a Thursday evening. We had the Buffett. Our experience here was excellent as it has been in the past. The food was fresh and frequently added to from the kitchen. The flavours were excellent, vegetables not over cooked. Meats, rice, noodles, prawns, everything very good. The serving staff were attentive but not in your face. Prices have gone up, but this is a reflection of food costs everywhere. Based on our experience on more than one occasion I would recommend eating here.

Oh no! Another previous favourite lost! Ive ordered takeout from here many times over the years but I stopped in the other day and decided to eat in. Its been some time since I last had a chance to eat their food and this time was... so disappointing! I ordered a combo. The rice was... okay? It had an odd taste to it, but I figured they might have needed or chosen to change the recipe, and since each Chinese food place can vary quite widely on their flavours Id probably just get used to it. I made the mistake of finishing the rice so I could eat the chow mein and s&s pork last. The chow me in was SO. SALTY. Like did you cook this in the ocean salty. I finished the chow me in next so I could eat the s&s last. The s&s was unpleasantly chewy on the inside. The coating was hard in the way something fried gets when its been cooled and then reheated too long in an attempt to make it crispy again. The sauce itself was more vinegary than Im used to. Its very unfortunate, because the service was, as always, stellar, and atmosphere-wise theyve done a marvelous job of designing the inside so beautifully that you forget your view outside is parking lots. But I couldnt face another meal like that. Parking: Parking lot can get a bit full during main meal times, would recommend staggering your meal time a bit to avoid having to find nearby parking as most of the parking around is not available to the public. You could likely get away with parking in Country Club either around the best buy area or the side where the save on drive through pharmacy pick up is. However note you would need to be able to walk a block or two with a somewhat steep incline/decline on either side. Wheelchair accessibility: Limited - double door entry with same level buffet access but that will be a bit tall for wheelchair users. Cant remember offhand if there is a button to open the entry doors or what the bathroom was like, sorry!

The staff were very friendly and pleasant and worked quickly to accommodate our group of 13. Their deep fried fish was excellent, hot, perfectly cooked fish with light and crispy batter. Their deep-fried, battered chicken wings are hands down the best wings I have ever had. And our whole group was in complete agreement on the wings. There are so many tasty, excellent dishes, and we will definitely return.

This has got to be the worst buffet restaurant in all of Canada. The food selection is terrible, the taste is terrible, plates at the buffet area are dirty, the dining room (floor & ceiling) is dirty, lots of old gum stuck under the table(s), bathrooms are nasty, I saw inside the kitchen from outside and I almost threw up. Called VIHA. Hope they get a visit soon! Picked up take out. Pork fried rice was inedible, tasted like day old microwaved rice mixed with chemicals. Ginger beef had no sauce, raw veggies and was 95% deep fried batter. Took food back & asked for a refund and was refused because this was up to their standard. PSA: Their standards are in hell. The bar is in hell. Never go here.

Usually pretty good but tonight was the worst I have had. On top of it they wanted $3 for sweet and sour on the side, only gave us 2 packs of soy sauce and 2 fortune cookies for an $80 order.

We re from Vancouver, but we make a point of eating here whenever we get off the ferry. As a general rule we avoid Asian restaurants that don t have many Asian patrons (at least we ve never seen any), but this is an exception. All-you-can buffet with a range of hot dishes and desserts (yum Nanaimo bars). We re sure to be back next time we re in the area. Oh, you ll probably need to ask for chopsticks, or find them at the buffet counter. They don t seem to bring them to the table by default.

I havent been here since pre-pandemic and this place seems to have upped a notch since our last visit. Buffet had a great array of dishes, including prawns, duck, chicken, wonton soup, vegetable stir fry, a salad bar, dessert bar, too many to list. Each dish was labeled and everything looked fresh and delicious. Empty dishes were promptly replenished, so no waiting for your favorite dish. We went there around 5ish and when we left around 6ish, the place was filling up fast. The place is huge, so no lineups. This place definitely merited the 5 star review!

Ordered take out! They offered %5 off the bill if I payed in cash (which is how I was paying). The bill was $100. I believe that soend $50=%5 off $100=%10 off...blah blah blah. Other options should be spend a certain amount and get rewarded. Free chicken fried rice or chow mein..blah blah blah Bottom line is the food is fantastic and ill still come back but times are tuff for all of us

I have had visited a ton of chinese buffets in small towns of the USA and found them to be borderline so so. It was refeshing to be here. The staff were always attentive and having fun. Manager lady was polite and the food was great. Wasnt thirsty AF after the meal so the use of msg was little or none. If I were to nitpick, the chow mein could have the egg noodles done thru a wok Instead. They were steamed by the restaurant, but at least a lot healthier this way. Would definitely come back

Fantastic selection. Garlic prawns, hot pot. Perfect wok hei flavours. This place is always busy for a reason, the buffet. But order off the menu for the best food.

(Updated) went in for buffet lateish and everything was still reaonably fresh and tasty went from a 3 to a 4 the server with the high pitched voice was vwry sweet and polite.The foods was kinda bland but the woman on the phone was polite and helpful and knowledgeable about items but the prices were high for the portion

Indoor dining is great...takeout? Food is good, service is just rude!

We were so excited to try it out with the good reviews but... we ordered chicken egg foo young but didnt see any meat, so we kept looking at it closely and found few shredded pieces... half way through. The beef pepper dish had four thinly sliced beef and LOTS of vegetables unlike the advertised picture. The two other meat dish we ordered had basically all broccolis and carrots. Bought take out food for the guests, but it was so embarrassing... should have just ordered salad for this price and saved money. Taste is a bit salty, so now we have lots of salty vegetables left...

Standard Chinese food buffet. Everything is filled rather quickly, the servers are quite nice, and who doesnt love choosing from 8 or 9 different ice cream flavors. Fair price for the meal as well. Went there with the family for a combination birthday/Thanksgiving supper. Many options at the buffet. The young ladies were amazing hostesses. Highly recommended

This restaurant is one of the best I have ever visited. This is because of the amount of food that you are able to choose from that is constantly being refilled. I really like how you can pay for the amount of people in your group and then you can eat whatever you want for no extra price! Parking: There are about 30 ish spots available in the parking lot. This is a good amount of space. Across the road theres another parking space that you could park as well. Kid-friendliness: This place is really kid friendly because of the food options available. The food is a somewhat good size for most kids.

We have ordered about 4 times now and have never disappointed! Food had been delivered fast and hot and delicious tasting!
