An ample selection of Chinese dishes are prepared at this down-to-earth restaurant with delivery.
Food arrived in a timely manner. The lemon chicken was practically floating in oil. The chicken chow mein was terrible. It was just a bunch of noodles with a tiny amount of bean sprouts, like maybe 6 and a few chunks of chicken sprinkled on top. We couldn't eat very much of it. We threw it out. Even the fortune cookies were old and stale. This is the worst Chinese food we have ever had.
A shockingly hidden gem of a chinese restaurant. Went in at what would be a dinner rush anywhere else, and my mother and I were the only patrons there. The food was great, and the portions were MASSIVE. The decorum was very nice as well. I'm genuinely shocked as to how this place isn't more popular.
Food was absolutely great, but ordered 1 combo, a spring roll and egg roll and ended up having to pay $60 for a massive amount of chow mein and sweet and sour pork due to the server being unable to understand English. Wrong food, wrong price, do not recommend unless you understand mandarin
This is a joke! Worst food I ever ate! Specially for the price! How are you still in business?
Not good at all, the sweet n sour sauce was thin and vinegary, chicken balls under cooked as well as the spring rolls.. not ordering from there again
Today I got their bread almond chicken with a special offer. I appreciate their new event.
I wanted to try my city's worst rated sit down restaurant to see if it was justified. Unfortunately, it is bad with it's tiny portion for the $17 combination I ordered from take out. The chicken chow mein was a bit salty but way too little in the small takeout container. The sweet and sour pork and the almond chicken was okay. For $12-15 you can get triple the food from Fairway market or Quality foods. I might give it another chance and try ordering a non combo item next time.
Ordered $80 worth of food for my wife and I after a long day. That’s a lot of money in this economy. We ordered sweet and sour pork, fried rice and 2 massive tubs of house chowmein. The house chowmein showed up stone cold and drowned in teriyaki sauce. I did not request teriyaki sauce. It was dripping wet from the get go and completely inedible. I’m reasonable so I tried calling to see if we could exchange it for regular chowmeim no sauce and left 3 messages for a call back politely explaining the situation. 2 days later no call back no concern for your customers so I paid $80 for a small tub of rice and a small tub of sweet and sour pork. If you can’t even have the courtesy to call back when I was very polite and spent my hard earned money then you shouldn’t even be open. Check out all your reviews on line. They say very similar things. You should be ashamed to treat your customers this way. Won’t be back thanks!
Very fast delivery!
We dined in. Which I do not recommend, the AC was on, it was freezing cold!!!! Food came out fast, but at separate times. Not even quarterway through my food and it started getting cold because how cold it was inside the restaurant, and to be honest it didnt come out all that hot to begin with. There are no working bathrooms, the toilet didnt flush, no hand soap, no paper towels. This is not the restaurant it used to be way back when. No more smorgasbord. The food was okay, but definitely wont dine in again. Vegetarian options: My brother is vegetarian, just ordered the dishes that said vegetarian. Parking: Its not a busy square, lots of parking.
Great take out. They are not the same as everywhere else which is why I like their Chinese Food. Its always fast service and quality aswell. I highly recommend trying them if you have a hankering for Chinese!
Ordered a ginger and onion beefWas not good very disappointedTasted like the beef was marinated in baking soda too longHad a slimy texture to it
The worst food ever. Portion size was very small and tasted horrible. Not worth the price we paid. Would not recommend
Please dont eat here it was the most disgusting food ordered ginger beef came out covered in hair we got up and walked out
Amazing Chinese food for take out
Excellent customer service there and food was delicious
Whats wrong with my food?
Updating as of Aug 3, 2023: Something has happened here, the food has went down hill fast. We ordered chicken chow mein and were given ham chow mein, I asked what the dish was and the server said the owner had extra ham he was using up. We will not be returning! The beef in the beef and broccoli was unrecognizable I do not recommend this place anymore!. We dined in, and the food was plentiful, fresh, & tasty. Previous reviewers said there were small amounts of meat in the dishes, I can attest to the fact that it is untrue. We tried the Szechuan chicken and vegetables, beef and broccoli and egg foo young.
Used to order from here but product is not any good now. Shorted on order, chow main is 99cent romon noodles terrible, & breaded dishes are undercooked coating is soggy. So very disapointed. Waisted money
Terrible food, rude delivery driver
Ordered combination dinners. Very small portions. Too much money for what you got. Still hungry after eating. Do not recommend. Delivery took over an hour...
Not impressed! Will not return.
Literally made a reservation 4 hours in advance and they say they cant take us because they have orders.. I get maybe being a little slow but why even take reservations if you cant serve them?!
We made reservations for 4pm Christmas day. After driving in from out of town during a noteworthy snowstorm, we arrived at the restaurant only to be told they were too busy with delivery/takeout orders and didnf have a cook to make our food. Why take reservations if you cant/wont serve them?
didnt have to wait long, it was prepared quickly and it was delicious. I was only disappointed that I didnt have more of it.
Anytime Im in Nanaimo, this restaurant is an essential stop. Their food is always pprepared and plated well, and the serving sizes are perfect. If youre a fan of BBQ pork I highly recommend trying theirs.
Good Food and Reasonable priced Chinese food. I had it from 3 to 4 times takeout Always very accommodating for really different request. Some dishes you should try is Seafood Soup, Ginger Chicken Chicken Chow Mein.
WILL NEVER ORDER FROM THIS PLACE EVER AGAIN. THE WORST BUSINESS FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE . If I could give negative stars I would. This time the food was totally cold when we got it. This used to be my favourite place to get food. Now it seems to be sub par and the last time the delivery driver couldn t get the debit machine to work. This time the delivery person didn t even have the machine. They were lucky I had cash. Thanks
We loved the Mandarin House. Out of all Chinese food restaurants Ive eaten at this one has the freshest meal. The meat was exteremly tender and each dish had wonderful flavors. We most definitely plan on going back again.
Some of the best Chinese food we have had.
Our first time at this restaurant...it will be our last. The worst Chinese food I have ever had.
Decent food, nice staff
Awesome place
Very poor quality Chinese food. The chicken chow mein did not have real chicken, only a few small white strips of synthetic looking substance on a small bit of very bland noodles. Very expensive for what I ordered and sadly the worst Chinese food I ve ever eaten. When we called to complain, we were told that what is shown on the menu is not necessarily what is in the dish! What?! Makes me wonder what is really put in the chicken chow mein ?
had a great experience tonight!! neo was a wonderful server
So ticked off. Ordered dinner for 4 cost me $70.99. And omg. The amount will never feed 4 people. Chow mien, rice and pork in small containers . Never will I order from them again...
Since new ownership the food is disappointing. Prices going up (understandably today) but the portions of meat have diminished to nothing. The Singapore noodle used to be my favorite but after the management/ownership change its now just noodles with curry powder with an expensive price.
Always faster than estimated delivery and fresh tasting food. Our go to now since moving to this area.
Gross
So nicely and friendly people!
Ordered @ 3pm for 4pm pick up and waited until 4:30 for food. I know it was new years but they should have been better at it than that. The upside is that the food was good. Staff not so much.
Small portions... Got: 1. Honey pork with half sauce and a small size 2. Beef Rice Noodle not full to top 3. Szechwan ginger beef not full to top with half sauce... 3 things was $60 and was not enough to feed 3 people... I feel ripped off!
Excellent! Everything was absolutely delicious. We have meat eaters and vegetarians and we are all very happy and full! The food was very fresh and large portions. The staff is friendly and professional and you get 10% off when you pick up and pay with cash. I highly recommend!
Fantastic! Hint of garlic in that chop suey was just right. Fresh, large portions! Also, I have never tried an egg roll like that! Wow! Yummy! We went with combo 3 and the special combo plus two egg rolls and opened them up to share between two of us! We even have a plate left over for tomorrow!
Tastey! Ordered through skip the dish and food was on time and Hot!! First time trying mandarin house and definitely will be back. Thank-you to all the staff.
Best Chinese food in Nanaimo
I love Mandarin House. The food is always delicious and hot upon arrival. The portion sizes are very generous.
The order came fast, but they forgot the sweet and sour sauce for my chicken balls. food was cold by the time the sauce arrived, not even a fortune cookie for compensation...I understand mistakes, maybe try a little extra when righting them
Never gonna go there again.
One of the best places to get Chinese food in nanaimo, we havent had a bad experience yet. The almond chicken is delicious, the chop suey is tasty and plentiful with veggies, chow mien is great ! Food is always super hot and fresh and they give you huge portions, can feed my family of 3 for two or three days. I will always recommend the mandarin house!
Used to love this place but now they use msg.
Wonderful food and service
First visit here. Excellent food and service! Shen-shen!!
Good food, hospitality, welcoming!
Nice place
A huge turn around and improvement. Easily my favorite in town now. Delicious , fast, fresh and super nice people.
Friendly & reasonable prices
We just tried Mandarin House for first time in awhile and it was delicious. The food was fresh, plentiful and tasty. Fast friendly service. Loved it. We will be back for sure!
Great little place for some good Chinese Cuisine. Teo thumbs up!
Sweet & Sour sauce was watered down, onions were massive, ginger also massive and way more than there should ever be in a dish. What a disappointment
Terrible food , pics are not the same in real food. i ordered online no cutlery , no napkin, hot and sour soup is color pink. I dont ordered again . very poor quality
This has been my favorite Chinese food restaurant for years, but alot changed in 5 years. The entire order was wrong! I asked and paid for sweet and sour sauce and they sent me sweet and sour pork, I asked for veggie chop suey got chicken etc etc. The ONLY part of my order that was correct was the 4 drinks we ordered. Its so disappointing. And no, they dont replace or send you new food its a credit. Extremely useless at 730 pm when 6 people are hungry.
Glad I discovered this hole in the wall, pleasantly surprised.
Absolutely worst Chinese food Ive ever had. Ive had terrible mall food court Chinese food and they surpassed it for worst ever.
Food has always arrived hot, and certainly worth the reasonable price
Townsite rd : ) we looove this place ! Everything is perfect everytime. Always professional, food is always hot, good portions. Call them now, you are missing out on a delicious gem. Tell everyone this place is consistent and fresh.
I love it here five
Buffet was terrible! We chose the buffet as we were starving after moving all day. We asked if we could still have the buffet as it was closing in about 35 minutes, nonetheless we decided to go for it. We grabbed a couple of things to start, in hopes they would replace the dried out, drab looking food that was probably sitting for some time. They didnt, to our disappointment, so we took some of the best, of the worst leftovers, and that is exactly what it was! The waitress brought our bill and was shocked that they charged full price, I think it was 18.99 per plate. The restaurant was cold with condensation on every window in there. Needless to say, not ever going there again! We could have had a really good, hot fresh meal for the price we paid!
Very annoyed about our service and food tonight. Ordered pick up and waited for the text to say it was ready. Got the text so my husband headed pick it up to be told it wasnt ready yet and would be another 15 minutes. They were busy with a lot of people from skip the dishes so he didnt mind the wait. That 15 minutes turned into 30 which then he got told our food was given to someone else and that he would have to wait even longer now for them to remake it. He was told he had to pay when he got there. The only good thing about the food was that it was hot. The almond chicken and battered shrimp were soaked in grease and one bite made you feel sick. The vegetables were over cooked and so was the chicken Chow Mein. When I tried to call to complain I couldnt get through. We will not be coming back and will be advising everyone else to skip this place too.
Found the food tasteless and plain. Spent $65.00, wont make that mistake again.
Called to make an order and was told to call back in 10 minutes. Second call, 10 minutes later, they picked the phone up and intentionally hung it up. I spent my money elsewhere.
Really fast delivery across town. The food was excellent, prices comparable to everywhere else... and an FYI - order direct from restaurants and pay their delivery drivers, the prices are actually cheaper than skip the dishes prices, $1-$3 per item cheaper! Support your local businesses, and try Mandarin House!
Havent been here in awhile ginger beef really tasty and crispy house chow mein beef N broccoli great
They have wonderful special fried rice. Fast, friendly service. We love this place.
WOW. Best chinese food Ive had in years! Keep doing what your doing !!
Once again, we had the meal for eight and were not disappointed! The choice of dishes were a great mix. The flavors were delicious, and you get lots of food. Love the deep fried prawns and chicken wings. Awesome value for a family feast with leftovers
Excellent food, great customer service.
I enjoyed my food yummm ..very friendly delivery driver ..will order again Thank you!!
Awesome food. Cooked perfectly and wonderful service. We were very happy with our dinner for 4 but the SS pork and chicken wings were phenom. Thanks guys. We will be back.
Well mannerd staff and professional!good food and cooked fresh!
The service was poor and the food was also taste poor. Not recommend.
Good place for a healthy snack for lunch. I wouldnt take a girlfriend there, however. 8-9 items on the buffet menu.
Mickey mouse Chinese restaurant
Very small buffet. Not really worth the $
Basic Chinese. Itll satisfy your needs.
Weve been a number of times over the past year and its always been pretty good. However the last time we went it was really poor. Food was bland and dry.
Best Chinese food in Nanaimo
The best special $12.45 for 3 dishes at lunch!
It is an all you can eat buffet. Limited selection and even though it was replenished frequently it appeared very meager looking. Staff distracted doing their nails.
Its alright could have been better
The boss has changed, and the new proprietress is very good at cooking. I heard that she even hired a Hong Kong chef. I love the spicy chicken and boiled fish!
Friendly staff. Odered wonton soup for take out. Wasnt very good. The wontons were filled with something that tasted like finely ground, ginger flavored, pasty oatmeal or bread crumbs....not good.
Floor and chairs were.dirty, food selection in the buffet was bland. Mediocre at best. Server did not speak English at all and had to bring a translator. Legally allowed to.work in Canada? Probably not best to assume.. Staff were friendly hence a second star.
Went there for Valentines Day, food was ok, have had better. Service was terrible, servers didnt know about their alcohol list, spoke very little English. Asked me if red meant the color was the color on their menu. English speaking girl brought us a dirty empty pepper shaker and they all clearly didnt know what they were doing. Worst experience ever. Went to pay bill, didnt know whos bill was whos. Ive been a server all my life and would be a shame to work there. Brought our food, but not plates had to ask for plates. Had to ask for our wine and beer after food came to table. When leaving, waited forever for bill and saw another couple wait 20 minutes, didnt get served, so the gentleman had to go to til and ask to be served. There were 3 servers on and it was a gong show. Was not even half full and most were having the boring buffet. Dont understand how the business even servives. I give this restaurant a minus, mot even a 1.What a waste of $65.00. So people, drive by and be thankful you notes to g there.
Food and service are decent
You definitely notice the change in ownership!!!
Had to endure the same song playing on repeat the whole time I was there, there was wood fragments in my food, the buffet was underwhelming. Wont ever return.
Looking for great staff great food
Had take out. The no.51Beef chop suey was alright. The packaging was inadequate and it spilled in the bag tho. The no.4 Chicken chow mein and no. 13 Chicken fried rice were bland. There will be no next time.
Worst place ever! my brother found a loonie in his sweet and sour. (I was beside him when he found it on his plate) yuck!
Whenever Ive eaten there the food has been awesome. Would definitely be making a return visit.
Really enjoyed. Hadnt tried Mandarin House before, had the food delivered. It didnt take as long as expected to arrive considering we ordered at the peak time for dinner. Everything we ordered was delicious. Had the Singapore noodles, Shanghai noodles, ginger beef and sweet and sour pork. Will definitely order from there again. :)
Amazing service waitress was very helpful and sweet. smorg was replenished and hot. thank you love this place still...
The waitresses very nice of helpful and the food was amazing but that just might be my stomach talking . and while we were there there is a extremely rude lady trying to get a deal that she was not offered and she she continued to pester the waitress she wanted a deal that she was not supposed to get but she ended up only paying half price she was not given a deal she paid half price and just left same with the other two men that were there left with her and the waitress dealt with it the best she could and this place is awesome very good place to go to eat highly recommended
A good place to get all the old fashioned Canadianized Chinese food you want. They have both lunch and dinner buffets for a reasonable price. From crispy spring rolls and egg foo yung, wonton soup, stir fried vegetables, chow mein and fried rice to jello cubes and yummy cake, they have everything you crave. However last time we went it was like a steam bath in there because they had the warming tray turned up so high it was bubbling and boiling loudly!
Improved from years ago.
Foods decent , but if you call for pick up make sure they recite your order back to you. Had a few things missing today unfortunately and didnt know till we got home in nanoose :(
The proprietress opened a new restaurant and tried their signature dish, boiled pork slices. As a Sichuanese, I thought it tasted pretty good, moderately salty and spicy, and plenty of portion. recommend
Offers lunch and dinner buffet as well as take out buffet. My husbands favourite, I could take it or leave it.
The buffet is really good with a lot of variety.
We always order take-out or delivery mostly just order it cause for us it is safe and delicious Chinese food! Cant go wrong with that.
They have surprisingly good curry, and who doesnt like buffet... Love this place!
The burn the rice
Good low grade Chinese buffet.
Its alright
Food is cold and slow to the table.
Best dinner smorg ever....been goin there 15 yrs..never left one time feeling overcharged and also quite alot of food to choose from 5 stars for sure
Yum
ive always had excellent service,,,they go out of there way to make you happy ,,, the food is always fresh, love the place My best wishes for 2016 Jason Cox
I love your food do much and having a chinese fit . I hope your trip is better than planned and I cant wait until you get back . the best in town
Food was very stale.. And very limited...they hardly had a selection in their buffet... Was very disappointed. And also chicken wings they had were very salty.. On positive side the service was good
Waste of money.. Their food is awful..
Worst Chinese food ever! Expensive and Late delivery. I would not remommend this Restaurant. Just wasted my $40.00.
Great food. Cant go wrong with this place!
This is the first Chinese food restaurant that we have ordered from, since moving to Nanaimo. Unfortunately it was not a good experience. The people were nice enough,(other then, when calling to order we were asked to please hold and then the employee that answered the phone put down the phone on the counter and walked away for almost 8 mins.) We picked up our order on time, but when we tasted the food, the chicken fried rice was burnt with sad little slivers of chicken on top, and the sweat and sour pork was disappointedly just little bits of pork, no veggies or anything else you would expect for this dish. We will be continuing to look for a good Chinese food place in Nanaimo.
Worst buffet experience Ive had yet. about 10 items...only 4 had food in them waited 10 min for rice to come out, another 10 for beef chop suey and sweet n sour pork. cake looked about 5 days old at least. friendly service but horrible quality of food. wont be coming back.
Very mediocre food on the buffet. We came once before and ordered off the menu. Plates were small and again, very mediocre. Duck tape around the plug on the wall. No ambience.
Great food and fast service, one of the best places for Chinese food in Nanaimo!
Had delivery. Food was bland and expensive. Will keep looking for a decent Chinese food outlet.
Good friendly service......but dont take phone calls after 8 ....even when they close at 930 tonight.....I usually pick up to and leave a good tip.....but lately very poor service.
Sadly had a very bad experience. First it came about 45min later then quoted Second it is expensive for Chinese food, which on its own I dont mind I am happy to spend more money to get good food, BUT the food was anything but good. Avoid this place if you can.
the best chinese food and love the friendly service there thanks for serving us *_8
Ordered lemon chicken, sweet and sour chicken balls, ginger beef, and chicken fried rice. Everything was awesome, loved it.
Overall a great place to go and enjoy a meal.
Dont pass up on the deep fried wontons. Some of the best Ive had.
