This place is such a gem, amazing food and amazing service!! Highly recommend the Shanghai dumplings and won ton soup, but all the food we ve had here has been top notch so you really can t go wrong. The staff are also so kind and friendly and will make you feel right at home. We stop in whenever we re in Nanaimo and are already looking forward to our next visit!

I guess the service was decent and the atmosphere was very nice, but the atmosphere was pinned towards tourists and not really what you would see in hong kong (where its advertised to be) The food was nothing like hong kong, no authenticity and tasted like a mesh of different foods from east Asia, not even china itself. The wonton mien was horrible compared to the ones I ve had in hong kong and the staff tried their best to impress us since they heard Cantonese (knowing we are from hong kong) they cooked up the worst tasting hong kong wontons I ve ever had. I wouldn t have a problem with this place if it didn t have the big words hong kong restaurant on the front. None of them spoke cantoneese and definitely never have been to hong kong. You would know the asian restaurant is horrible when french fries on on the menu. Good service tho

One of the worst Chinese food we have ever tried. Living in Vancouver I have tried really good Chinese food, however, this food didnt taste like Chinese food and it wasnt appealing to the eye either. The staff was friendly and the place look nice and clean, though.

I love this food so much, I ve gotten the beef chow mein multiple times and it never disappoints. It s never greasy and it s the percent portion. Always super fast and very sweet ladies. I highly recommend trying out.

Just happened to be in that part of town today decided to have some Chinese food for lunch , glad I did the service was excellent greeted at the door in a very nice way . Very kind helpful staff l ordered the combo and radish cake all of the food was delicious you could tell the chef puts a lot of love into his food definitely will be going back.

Ordered Combo 3, Chicken fried rice, beef and chicken (chicken as I don t eat pork). Food was great and got my tummy full!

The restaurant itself is in a nice location right downtown, close to where several buses go. Inside is small but quaint--theres photos of their menu items on one of the walls. Surprised by how much seating is in there, the place looks tiny from the outside! I went for take-out and ordered one of the dim sum combos with pork buns, shumai, and dumplings. Delicious food and Ill definitely be back in the future! While I waited for my order, the lady working front-of-house was just outstanding, she was attentive and friendly. Brought me a glass of water without me asking, told me how long until my food was ready, etc. Couldnt have asked for better service.

Bamboo Garden is a wonderful, cosy little family-operated restaurant. The staff is incredibly friendly - and funny! - the food is delicious, and the service is excellent. I only wish it was closer to where I live so that I could eat here more frequently.

We ordered large sizes of food.. very small portions, 60 dollars, barely fed two... food was fresh, but lacked flavour and was cold. I picked up within 20 minutes of ordering, upon there request. Probably would not recomment for the quantity vetsus price.

A nice surprise! Lots of classic dishes and some new ones to try. One of our party is vegetarian and the waiter was very helpful pointing out dishes that had some hidden meat elements and was willing to make changes to accommodate. Everything was freshly made and tasty. Two standouts were the ginger fried tofu and for me, a carnivore, the mapo tofu! Reasonably priced and overall a good, classic Chinese diner.

Conveniently located in Old Nanaimo. Small but quaint. Delightful staff, good service and excellent value. Will definitely be my go to place when in the area.

I went to bamboo garden on a Saturday evening for dinner. The restaurant is not far from downtown Nanaimo and along the street are a few other restaurants and bars. I had some dim sum Prawn dumpling, Pork Siu Mai, and BBQ Pork Steamed Buns. Everything was very good and it reminded me a lot of my time in Hong Kong where Dim Sum is the traditional dish for lunch. I can totally recommend Bamboo Garden.

Food was great, but portions are small, fed 4 adults for 100 bucks, everyone could have eaten more, didn t have left overs which seemed odd with Chinese food too.

Best service Ive seen in awhile. The food was very good. We got pork steam buns and shanghai noodles. We got steam buns to go, they were very good. The restaurant was clean and nice.

Favourite new Chinese place, we had har gow, sui mai, sticky rice, wonton soup, chicken Chow Mein, spring roll and sweet and sour pork. We would order it all again! Kid-friendliness: They have childrens plastic cutlery and dinnerware so no breakage accidents!

So, we are from the Mainland and i guess may be jaded. This restaurant is the 5th one we have tried in or near nanaimo. The previous 4: we tossed the food. Not even worthy of the green bin. I like the location of this place. The owner/staff were fantastic. Super nice and helpful. The food was fresh, but I am curious as to why the flavour was quite bland. We decided to go basic for our first visit. Some dishes that normally you cant go wrong. Nothing exotic first visit. We had the sticky rice (my fav). Needs more filling. S/S pork with pineapple. (Basic. Not greasy at all). BBQ chow mein. (Bland, noodles all chopped up like you would serve to a child). Ginger beef. (Tasty but could kick it up a notch with more garlic and ginger). Sliced BBQ pork. (Very dry, but at least lean. Not a lot of flavour). Again, we are spoiled from East Van restaurants and Richmond night Market. We might go again, this time focus on dim sum. Looked pretty good.

We were en route to the post office and came upon this tiny gem. We looked at the menu outside and were beckoned in by the owner. I inquired if chow fun was available and was assured that it could be prepared to my liking. We also ordered several dim sum dishes and chicken chow mein. The dim sum was very tasty and freshly prepared. My beef chow fun had all the vegetables I requested and the beef slices were tender and flavorful- no gristle or tendons! Just silky smooth. A wonderful place for a great meal.

The best Chinese food Ive had in Nanaimo. So fresh, not greasy, homemade sauce for the ginger beef. Seriously recommend this place. Tiny restaurant but good and clean atmosphere, very friendly and gracious owners. This is our new go to for Chinese food!

Ordered here tonight and it was outstanding. My first first job as a teenager was in a very good Chinese restaurant and I am a big foodie and Bamboo Garden exceeded expectations! We ll definitely be back!

We were craving dim sum and found this cute little spot. We had a combo, chow mein, plus added some additional dim sum options. All very yummy. Service was great. Our combo had sticky rice wrap, which tastes marinated and had mushrooms and something else in side. Best surprise ever. It tasted so good. Pricing was reasonable compared to some spots weve seen in Victoria. Selection small, but I was happy with what I ate. Id come here again!

Service was great but the food is too far removed from Hong Kong. Its essentially home cooked food from any household on mainland China, except the portions are very small in comparison. Pros: Pretty attentive service considering the cuisine. Cons: None of the staff spoke Cantonese. No Chili oil. No HK milk tea. All of these being staples of a Hong Kong restaurant. This place is essentially cultural appropriation to fill the void of Cantonese cuisine in Nanaimo.

Polite, excellent service, comfortable and the food is fresh, fast and tastes great. Took our daughters out for an early dinner and we thoroughly enjoyed the restaurant and the food. We will make this our monthly eat out for sure!

I stopped in for lunch and Im glad I did. Food was quite good. Attention to detail and good knife skills. Had pork and shrimp fried rice very good. Beef chow mein. Cant wait till their woks become fully seasoned. If I had any criticism it would be lacking seasoning. Ill be back for sure.
